Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is brought to you by This Week's Heat to try to make up for
- 0:04the horrible winter we had.
- 0:06He allegedly stole Christmas from tens of thousands of victims and deprived
- 0:10local charities of more than one million.
- 0:12The FBI continues to root out scrooges that greedily exploit the goodwill of New Yorkers.
- 0:17The FBI director on the head of Santa Khan, who was supposed to give ticket
- 0:22sales charity all these years.
- 0:24Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and
- 0:27maybe a laugh. I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today's April 16th, 2026.
- 0:32In real news, there's big news in the we already knew this.
- 0:37A jury ruled yesterday that Live Nation is a monopoly, not just like kind of
- 0:42unfair or a little shady, like full on you run concerts like a mob boss.
- 0:47And yeah, this includes their emotionally abusive partner, Ticketmaster,
- 0:51the website that crashes the second that you are able to get a ticket.
- 0:55Here's what they got in trouble for. Basically forcing venues to use Ticketmaster
- 1:00and strong-arming the entire industry and quietly turning going into a concert
- 1:05into a luxury experience on par with going to a wedding.
- 1:09Oh, you want to see your favorite artist? That'll be $120 for the ticket at
- 1:14the bare minimum, $60 in fees, and $15 for the privilege of printing it out yourself at home.
- 1:20And the jury said, yeah, that's illegal.
- 1:23Yeah, it is. This all really popped off after the Taylor Swift era's tour ticketing controversy. fee.
- 1:30Millions of fans logged on, they got kicked out, waitlisted,
- 1:34emotionally damaged, and somehow still spent $900 on a really shitty ticket.
- 1:39That wasn't a ticket sale. That was the Hunger Games with the service fee.
- 1:44And now a judge gets to decide the punishment.
- 1:46And the options include breaking up with Live Nation and Ticketmaster.
- 1:51It would be the most dramatic breakup since every guy I've ever dated who wasn't
- 1:55ready for something serious, but was somehow ready for someone else immediately.
- 1:59So what does this mean for you? Are tickets going to get cheaper?
- 2:03I would love to say yes, and I would also love to lie to you.
- 2:07Realistically, tickets might get slightly less crazy, and fees might become
- 2:11slightly less offensive, and the checkout page might only feel like a minor
- 2:15betrayal instead of a major personal attack.
- 2:18But the real win here is that for the first time ever, a court of law looked
- 2:23at concert pricing and said, yeah, this is very ridiculous.
- 2:26And honestly, the validation is priceless. Unlike tickets, which are $437 before
- 2:33fees. So that's the news.
- 2:35A high school principal in Oklahoma is being called a hero after slapping a
- 2:39gunman who entered the building last week.
- 2:42Kirk Moore is the principal of Pauls Valley High School, and he confronted a
- 2:46former student who walked into the school with a gun.
- 2:49Security footage shows Moore stepping in immediately, preventing what could
- 2:53have been a much worse situation.
- 2:55He was reportedly injured during the incident, but his actions likely saved a lot of people's lives.
- 3:01School officials say he's exactly the kind of person who would put himself in
- 3:04danger to protect students, and in this case, he really did.
- 3:09The suspect, Victor Durr-Hawkins, was taken into custody and will now face the
- 3:13consequences of that decision.
- 3:15Stocks are hitting record highs during a war because nothing says stable economy
- 3:21like missiles flying and Wall Street going, yeah, but the S&P is improving.
- 3:26The S&P 500 just closed yesterday above 7,000 for the first time ever because
- 3:32investors have collectively decided the U.S.
- 3:34Iron conflict is basically over, even though it is very much still happening.
- 3:40This is like your friend saying I'm over my ex while actively stalking their
- 3:43Instagram. The market is essentially trying to price a happy ending.
- 3:47It's not a realistic one. It's not a confirmed one, just a manifested one.
- 3:52I mean, there are some reasons for the optimism.
- 3:55Big banks like JPMorgan Chase are pulling in obscene profits,
- 3:59corporate earnings are strong, and the job market hasn't completely collapsed
- 4:03into a pile of despair yet.
- 4:05So investors are like, sure, oil prices are spiking, inflation is looming,
- 4:10and the global economy might slow down, but have you considered just, like, ignoring that?
- 4:14Even the International Monetary Fund is waving a giant red flag,
- 4:18warning this could trigger inflation and possibly a recession.
- 4:21And the market's response is basically, not now, we're celebrating this.
- 4:26Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz, which controls a huge chunk of the world's
- 4:30oil supply, is very much still a mess, which is very much important,
- 4:35like globally important.
- 4:36But again, Wall Street has decided that's a future problem. So what we're seeing
- 4:40is peak delusion meets peak capitalism.
- 4:43Investors are betting that the worst is over, earnings will stay strong,
- 4:47and everything is just going to work itself out. Could they be right? Sure.
- 4:52Could this backfire spectacularly? Also, yes.
- 4:55Because right now the market is acting like it just hooked up with its ex again
- 4:59that it's still in love with.
- 5:00And instead of freaking out about it and thinking that things are going to get
- 5:03worse, it's already picking out wedding china.
- 5:06And I could not relate to this one more. In Lindsay life, so yesterday I picked
- 5:11up those egg white bites from Starbucks.
- 5:15And I bit into it as I'm driving. And I kid you not, I took a hard bite.
- 5:21Like something was hard and I spit it out. it looked
- 5:24like it was pieces of tree bark or wood
- 5:27or something like it's weird it's like
- 5:30little tiny like brown pieces and they're hard like you would think maybe they're
- 5:34mushrooms but like they were not mushrooms like way too hard to be mushrooms
- 5:38anyway they should label them egg white bites brie truffle and churi the five
- 5:44top things that will make you a good producer ask pas to help you with literally anything,
- 5:50but also don't be an asshole to them.
- 5:52Always pretend to know what's going on, even when you don't,
- 5:55and always look busy, even if that means just circling around the set five to six times.
- 6:02If you don't know what to do, look like you were in a very serious text conversation,
- 6:07and be nice to every single person on set because you will need that person
- 6:12at one point or another, even if it's just to borrow their phone charger.
- 6:16Cooking tip of the day. Don't put wood or tree in your eggs.
