- 0:00Sangram here. Again, another on the move series today. How is it? My son's practice
- 0:06and his coach said something that I think applies to both business and in real life. His coach, when
- 0:13they're all the kids were playing. If, you know, tennis is a very, very crazy sport, but you really
- 0:18have to work by yourself. have to motivate yourself. You have to get going every day. You have
- 0:22to wake up at like 536 and there's no team. It's just you. You need to fight yourself every single
- 0:28day, which is, I think, the part of what every founder, every CEO goes through. We're not waiting
- 0:32for somebody to set a meeting with you. You actually create meetings, you create sales, you
- 0:36create solutions. You create even bigger problems in some ways so that you can solve those problems
- 0:42because there's a bigger payout for that. Right? So this is what happened. His coach, like a 25 year
- 0:46old really, really strong athlete, he asked my son and there are a few other people that were
- 0:51playing, you know, like they were all practicing. And he looked at them how they were practicing.
- 0:55And he asked this question to them. He just stopped everybody and said, hey, come on up here,
- 0:58come on up here. And he asked all of them. He made them like 3 or 4 of them standing in line. And he
- 1:03said, are you here to win? And everybody just chuckled and said, yeah, of course we're here to
- 1:09get them to play tennis. And they were like. And then he looked at them and said, I'm kind of
- 1:13confused. I don't understand if you all want to win, why don't you play like you want to win right
- 1:18here, right now? And they're like, well, it's practice. And I know Jonathan, I don't know this
- 1:22person. Like all seven. They started to give all these excuses. And then he said to them something
- 1:27that applies so much to the entrepreneurial founder, to a high performing leader out there,
- 1:32which is you play to win. It doesn't matter where it is, how it is, who it is with you play to win.
- 1:39And all the kids were a little bit shocked by it and he said, now go there and play to win. Don't
- 1:46give me anything. I don't want any giggles. I don't want any fun things. This is not the time to have
- 1:50fun. This is time to win. And I kid you not. I saw the next 30 minutes of practice and every one of
- 1:56them were like, all in. They were like, ready to go. They're pushing themselves. And slowly but surely,
- 2:02in about 1050 minutes, the standard of everybody went high. All of a sudden, everybody was playing
- 2:07better than they thought they could. They were beating, taking a point off somebody that they
- 2:11couldn't because they just raised the standard. I think that's so much of what entrepreneurship is.
- 2:16The, the being a founder, being a CEO, being a high performing leader is to raise your standards. So
- 2:21the question that I have for you and me that I feel challenged with is that every sales call
- 2:26that I have, every marketing campaign that we're launching, every idea that we are experimenting
- 2:31with, are we doing to to win, or are we just doing for the sake of doing it? Because if we are, then
- 2:37we should not be surprised when the expectation of ourselves is so low that our results are low.
- 2:42But if you're playing to win, which means you know that the output should be ten times more, if the
- 2:48campaign should work so much better. If the call should go so much better, what I would do, I would
- 2:52be more prepared for the calls. I'll be more thoughtful about the campaigns I'm launching. I
- 2:57would be more in the experimentation. It doesn't really matter how and when I do it. I would do
- 3:02everything with more intentionality. That coach was treating and helping these young boys to
- 3:07become men that were high performing with raising their standard, not just when it's time to play in
- 3:14a in a level two like a high stakes game. But even when the stakes are super low, this coach was
- 3:19helping them recognize that if you don't practice to when when it comes to game time, you won't be
- 3:26able to to win at all because you just haven't trained your brain to do that. So all that to say
- 3:31is that in leadership, in life, in business, we have to play to win every single point, every single
- 3:37time. There is no excuse for playing lame. There is no excuse for not being prepared. There is no
- 3:42excuse for not doing what you know you should be doing in order to win. Play to win. And if you're
- 3:47ready, let's keep moving. I'll see you next time on the move series.
