- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I feel like I've been seeing this all over social media and I think it's because it was a trend last year during this time during like the September, October, November, December part of the year, you know, our lock-in arc, if you will.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: It went like viral last year.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Um, these last four months of the year as a form of locking in.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: But I will say that this year it does feel kind of different to me.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And I also feel like one of the reasons it feels different is because I swear I've been hearing people all year say that they're locking in.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And I think because last year it was kind of like a new thing, right?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Lock-in arc, whatever, winter arc, fall arc, whatever you want to call it.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Um, it was like a new thing, a new idea, and a lot of people were on board and like achieving their goals.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: It was just a different energy.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: This year it felt like every season everyone was saying that they were locking in, and so I feel like it just gave it less meaning.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And nobody proved their lock-in.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I feel like people kept saying, like, oh yeah, I'm just gonna lock in.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And then they said that multiple times over the course of this entire year.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You're essentially proving that you're unable to just flip that switch, and I think that's one of the problems with this is that people think that just locking in, air quotes, is just a switch that you can flip.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: And that's just not the case for everyone.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I feel like for some people, yes.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: But the only way that you can actually have that switch flip is if you've been so consistent before in the past that you maybe have fallen off track track just a little bit, but not really.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And then you're like, okay, I have to lock in, and then you do it, you do the work, you prove that you've done the lock-in, and you're not just resetting every single month.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Not everyone can lock in.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I feel like you have to go through a season of major discipline in order to earn the ability to lock in, and by that I mean you need to be able to earn the ability to flip that switch.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: It's not something that you can just do without having the experience.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: You need to actually go through a season of discipline, you need to go through a season of actually changing your body, your physique.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: You need to go through a discipline of tracking your macros, tracking your workouts, tracking your steps.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: You need to go through the actual motions of everything and have mastered it first to be able to earn that ability to flip that switch.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And the reason I say this is because the ability to flip that switch and just go back to that old routine of you know, like tracking your macros, doing your workouts, take taking your step, doing your steps.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: That flip of the switch wait, sorry, switch.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I can't even talk anymore.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: That ability to just flip that switch, it comes from muscle memory, it comes from putting in the reps.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: It doesn't just come from the decision to just like hey, I'm just gonna like jump into this and like it's gonna work out.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: No, like you have to have the the reps put in, like you have to have that muscle memory, and that's the way that you're able to stay consistent after flipping your switch or locking in, whatever you want to say.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, a lot of people say, like, I'm gonna lock in, and then they don't because they can't stay consistent enough.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Why can't you stay consistent enough?
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Because you haven't gone through the motions, you haven't built that consistency in the past.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: So, how do you expect yourself to keep that consistency now when you've never really built that muscle before, you know?
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Now, this isn't me trying to put people down or anything, I think it it just needs to be like understood that people are giving the term locking in less meaning, and that's kind of sad, you know, because if you keep using that word without actually doing the work, it just goes back to you know lowering your confidence because the way you build confidence is by doing the things you said you were gonna do.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: If you keep saying that you're gonna lock in and you're not locking in, you're just shooting your own confidence down.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Your words have meaning, and I think it's important for you to follow through, not just for your own confidence, but for people's confidence in you as well.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Anyways, like I said, this is not me trying to make you feel bad about anything, if anything.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: This is me telling you that you can earn that season, or sorry, you can earn the chance to just flip that switch.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: You can.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: You just have to first go through the season of doing it, the season of having real discipline, real grit, real hard work.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: You need to be able to go through that first, and then you can earn that flip switch, which is cool because once you finally do go through that season, you've proven to yourself that you can do hard things, and that boosts your confidence, you know.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: But you've also earned the ability to flip that switch now.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: So when you do, you know, kind of fall on track or you have been a little loose with structure or with your boundaries, the ability for you to just bounce back into routine, it's almost instant.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: You know, it's literally like flipping a switch because it's muscle memory, you've already done it before.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: This is why most people fail their lock-ins because they've never really done it before, and so it's impossible for them to stay consistent or stay on the path that they're trying to be on because they've never really practiced it in the past, and there's no muscle memory there.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: This is why I say you have to build the muscle first before you can actually earn the ability to flip the switch or say that you're actually locking in this time or whatever, whatever you want to call it.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: This was a shorter episode, but I hope you still learned something regardless.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: If you feel like you've been struggling with staying consistent, aka locking in, and you really want to be able to earn the ability to just flip the switch like that, DM me at my Instagram at Andrea Martinez.fit and we can chat about what locking in can look like for you.
