- 0:39SPEAKER_00: I have an addiction.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Not the kind you're thinking of.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: But mine is and was an addiction to learning.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: The learning that I thought was pushing the needle forward.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: It's the illusion of progress.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Think of it as like productive procrastination that isn't very productive.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: My name is Tina, and this is episode 51.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Today I'm talking about how I'm breaking out of the learning addiction, the loop that has kept me stuck.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And basically, I'm breaking out of student mode.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: How many of you have been in school over and over and over and you know what to do?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So I guess I'm a student of life, and I have been learning and learning and not applying.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: So now I'm it's time to break out.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to share, like, okay, I've been grinding, you know, and I'm thinking, oh, that's work.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: I'm doing work.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: The whole time the needle might move maybe a tiny bit up, but mostly it it moves down because I feel like it's time consuming, so I'm losing time.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And I thought, you know, I was grinding.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm leveling up.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: That's in my mind.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm grinding, I'm learning, I'm leveling up, I'm reading, I'm watching videos.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I was stuck in this loop of learning the same things over and over.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: You know why?
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Because it felt safe.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: It kind of kept me hidden.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And then I actually learned something that I didn't know.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Watching videos, reading books give you tiny little hits of dopamine.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I never thought of that before.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: So I'm addicted to the dopamine.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And there, you know, there are a couple types of learning.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: There's useful learning and avoidance learning.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Now, I don't know about you.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you relate to this.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Avoidance learning, it's just the difference is it's tied to fear.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: You're avoiding something to feel safe.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: It's like a self-protection, so I was trying to protect myself.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: You know why?
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Because when you're just learning, you feel like you're progressing, but you're not really taking the risk.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: You're not putting yourself out there.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: You're staying hidden, not exposed.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And though it sounds safe, it doesn't get your needle to move.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Useful learning, it makes you more capable.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: It's tied to action.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: So once I just discovered this about a week ago, my life has changed in a tremendous way.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And so you're probably like, well, what do I do?
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: And I I had the same questions, and then I looked up ways to help.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: What is the solution to be unaddicted?
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Addiction?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: It's so strange because just saying I'm addicted to this sounds weird to me, but I am.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: From the morning I wake up till I go to bed.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: That's all I listen to, watch.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: I may throw in a Dr.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Phil, but I guess that that's the same thing.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: I don't even watch shows for fun anymore.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: It's always about learning, learning, learning without much action.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: And that's what the difference is.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: So I did write down the solution somewhere.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: So please hold.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Let me get those solutions for us here because there are so many.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: And I'm just gonna list list list a few of them because there are many more.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: So maybe in some future episodes.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So these are the ones that I'm actually putting into practice right now.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And the first one is the first solution that you can do is the 48-hour rule, which is huge for me.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: I have notebooks and screenshots of things I'm gonna do in the future.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: It's so if you're not gonna do it within the 48 hours, then don't waste your time learning it.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And then there was another thing, and this is gonna be this is big for me.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: How many times did you wait till everything's perfect to start something?
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, like just like I explained in my last episode.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: If you're like, for instance, making a video, some of you might, oh, okay, I gotta fix my hair, I gotta fix the lighting, I gotta fix this, I gotta do that.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: By the time that's over, you've kind of lost your raw moment.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: And so you start doing the thing first, like how I've started doing the podcast, but then I still don't know how to edit.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: So that would actually be useful learning.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: So in the next 30 days, that is the one skill that I'm going to pick that I'm going to work on.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: For me, it's video video.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: See, I can't even edit that out.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: I don't know how yet, but I will.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: It's video editing.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: So for the next 30 days, that's the skill I'm gonna work on.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Now there's a couple other solutions.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: The just in time solution.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, so let's say you're having a problem currently, like right now.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Let's say you're fixing something or you're putting a radio into your car.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: God bless you if you are.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I don't know how people do that.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: So you're putting a radio in the car and you don't know where one wire goes to the next wire.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: So then you watch a video to learn how to do that.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: That's useful learning.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: You're not avoiding anything.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: I have notebooks and notebooks.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: I've been doing this for since 2018.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: In 2024 of December, I started taking action steps and doing.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: And then I was learning probably for three, four months now, just learning, learning, consuming with very little production, missing opportunities because I was afraid to start or I wanted to just hide.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Because my mind felt like, okay, well, I'm not wasting time, I'm learning.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: This is progress.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: It was avoidance.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: That's the big difference.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Once you realize some of the learning you do is avoidance, I believe that's going to be a huge switch shift in your life.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Let's say you're writing a book.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Put something out about you writing your book.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Or if you have a deal with somebody, put out like maybe they want a couple pages.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Put out something every single week.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Take the action.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: If you're learning how to do spreadsheets, put out a spreadsheet.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Hey, this is what I learned.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: If you're a podcaster, put out a podcast every week.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Just do something every single week in the action side.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: I know it's hard, and I didn't even realize this was a thing.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: And then that's why I wanted to share it with you today because I didn't even know I could be addicted to such a thing, and I even feel silly saying it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: But now my mind is like, aha.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: It's like a huge epiphany, it's a huge game changer for me.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: And that's why I wanted to bring it to this podcast and talk about it and help others.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Maybe it'll help you because I know it's going to be very helpful.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: It's already started.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: It's very useful.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: So if you are addicted to learning, it's time to execute.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: We're going to take more action.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: I still, I'm sorry.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: I'm like not sorry, but I'm dumbfounded.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: I'm sitting here trying to talk to you guys, and I just realized this and I can't even believe.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: So basically, you're going from your potential to actually execution.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Because you're afraid inside.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: You know why?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Learning feels safe.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: You don't have to do anything.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: There's no risk, there's no exposure.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: And that's the difference.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, this helps you today.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: If it does, stay tuned to my uh next episodes, my old episodes where you'll watch me grow.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: I help to put out and help anybody with these kinds of things.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I do help women break toxic patterns and just helping us break patterns that keep us stuck and in the loop.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Thank you for listening, and you guys have a good week.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: And for your homework, I want you to do one action today.
