- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the Life Podcast.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: I'm Dr.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: C, a burnout prevention expert with a doctorate in organizational change and leadership.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Friends, I want to lean in and share something that hit me right in the heart recently.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Have you ever seen a quote that just stops you in your tracks?
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Look at this with me.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Saying no to you was the loudest yes I ever gave to myself.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Take a deep breath and let that sink in for a second.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I'm speaking to you today not just as a researcher, but as someone who spent over 25 years managing high-stakes change.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And if I'm being completely honest, learning the hard way how easy it is to lose yourself while trying to carry everything for everyone else.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Whether you're leading a department, managing a household, or trying to show up for your loved ones, we've all been conditioned to believe that saying yes is a badge of honor.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: But here's the truth I've learned both in my own journey and in my research.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Every time you say a hesitant yes to someone else's demands, you might be whispering no to your own peace, your health, and your family.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: The research backed this up.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Dr.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Christina Maslacht and her colleagues alongside the World Health Organization have shown us that lack of personal control and poor boundary enforcement are direct fast tracks to chronic workplace burnout.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: And organizational researchers Sonnentag and Fritz found that when we don't psychologically detach and set boundaries, our bodies physically react, bringing on emotional exhaustion, fatigue, and real health issues.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Burnout isn't a badge of honor, my friend.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: It's a sign that our boundaries are bleeding out.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: In the Life Blueprint, we focus on living as a whole person across all eight dimensions of wellness: emotional, occupational, physical, and beyond.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Setting a firm, loving boundary is how we activate the flourish pillar.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: It's how we protect our energy so we can show up as our best, authentic selves at work and at home.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Saying no isn't selfish.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: It is a necessary act of self-preservation and leadership.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you, heart to heart, what is one thing on your plate today that you need to say no to so you can finally say the loudest, most empowering yes to yourself.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Thank you for spending these few minutes with me.
