- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hola and welcome back to the Life Podcast, where we learn, inspire, flourish, and evolve together on the journey to our best, most authentic selves.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: C, and today's conversation is all about reestablishing our connection to our physical bodies, and we'll be looking at it through the lens of our physical wellness.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: If you are new here, life isn't just a catchy name, it is our mandate.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: It stands for learn, inspire, flourish, and evolve.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And that is exactly what we do here.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: We take the messy, beautiful, complicated parts of the human experience and we find the harmony within them.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Today represents a line in the sand.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: It is a pivot point.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: We are putting away the band-aids, we are stopping the quick fixes.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: We are going to look at your life through the lens of holistic wellness.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I want to start with a question, and I want you to be really honest with yourself as you answer it.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: How often do you feel like you are fixing one part of your life only to watch another part immediately fall apart?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: It's like the carnival game Whack a mole.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: You know the one?
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: You have that mallet and you smack the mole on the left.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Maybe that mole is your sleep schedule.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: You finally get eight hours of sleep.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: But the second you do, the mole on the right pops up.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And that one is social isolation.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: You're sleeping great, but you haven't seen your friends in three weeks.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So you smack that mole, you go out to dinner, you reconnect, but then the financial mole pops up because you spent money you didn't budget for.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Then the work mole pops up because you're behind on deadlines.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: It is exhausting, it is demoralizing, and it is the number one cause of burnout I see in my consulting practice.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: The problem isn't that you aren't trying hard enough.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: The problem is that you are treating wellness as a checklist of separate chores rather than an ecosystem of connected parts.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: We have been taught to fragment ourselves.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: We have a work self, a gym self, a spiritual self, and a family self.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: But you are just one person.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And when one of those dimensions is out of alignment, the whole system feels the vibration.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So, I decided it was time to stop the game and focus a series on the eight dimensions of wellness.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And here is why there is power in immersion.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Deep change, the kind where you actually evolve, does not happen.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Because you read one inspirational quote.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Neuroscience tells us that to rewire a habit or to change a thought pattern, a neural pathway, we need repetition and focus.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: We need to sit with a concept long enough for it to move from our intellectual understanding to our emotional connection and finally to our daily behavior.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: In this episode, we break down the what, the why, and the how, we look at the science, we strip away the myths, and we build the toolkit.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: I'm not just talking theory.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: We are building in the moment strategies.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: This is about sustained integration by the time we finish today.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: You won't just have a list of resolutions, you will have a rebuilt foundation with the life blueprint.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Let's establish our baseline with physical wellness, which is defined as the intentional care of one's body for optimal health and functioning to maintain this dimension.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Clinical frameworks recommend that we engage in 150 minutes of moderate physical activity weekly and commit to a healthy diet of nutrient-dense foods.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Additionally, maintaining a regular sleep schedule by getting seven to nine hours of sleep nightly is crucial.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Physical wellness is deeply interconnected with emotional wellness.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: As exercise naturally boosts mood and reduces circulating stress hormones like cortisol, but listen to me closely.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: This is not about a bikini body.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: It's not about a number on a scale.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: We are explicitly rejecting the toxic diet culture narratives that have hijacked the wellness industry.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: Instead, we are asking an operational question, how does my vehicle run?
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: We're talking about sleep hygiene, intuitive movement, and nutrition as sustainable fuel.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: We're learning to listen to the signals, the aches, the chronic fatigue, the energy spikes and crashes that our body sends us every day.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: I've watched brilliant leaders treat their bodies like secondary thoughts.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: And two.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: According to the World Health Organization, workplace burnout is officially classified as an occupational phenomenon characterized by chronic energy depletion and exhaustion.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So, when we neglect our physical vehicle, we accelerate this depletion.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: The biggest misconception people have is that sleep and rest are rewards for hard work.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: In reality, they are the prerequisite biological requirements for sustainable performance.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: You cannot successfully manage life if your physical foundation is entirely depleted.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: I want to share a story about a client of mine, let's call her Sarah.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Sarah was a visionary CEO of a rapidly scaling regional nonprofit.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: When she came to me, her organization was facing skyrocketing turnover, and she herself was operating on pure adrenaline.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Sarah's challenge wasn't a lack of passion, it was systemic exhaustion.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: She was sleeping four hours a night, surviving on black coffee and catered meeting food, and viewing a 15 minute walk as a luxury she couldn't afford.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: She thought she was sacrificing her body for her mission.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: The reality her chronic sleep deprivation caused severe emotional volatility, clouding her executive decision making and driving a culture of frantic urgency that trickled down to her entire staff.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: We applied the life blueprint to her routine.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: We didn't launch an aggressive gym schedule.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: We started small.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Sarah committed to securing seven hours of sleep by initiating a hard digital boundary at 9 PM.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: We replaced her third afternoon espresso with a balanced, nutrient dense meal and integrated short 10 minute walking intervals between her executive sessions.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: The result was profound.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: Within six weeks, Sarah's cognitive clarity returned and her baseline stress levels dropped dramatically.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Because she was no longer operating from a deficit of physical exhaustion, her emotional responses stabilized.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Her team noticed the shift immediately.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Sarah stopped trying to outwork her physiology.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Physical wellness isn't a separate item on your to-do list.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: It is the physical framework that holds every other dimension of your life together.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: When your vehicle runs smoothly, your emotional stability, intellectual acuity, and occupational leadership naturally elevate.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Up next, we are moving from the why to the how.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about the practical strategies to help your physical body truly flourish.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: The absolute smallest practical action you can take this week is to choose one consistent anchor point in your daily physical routine.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Do not try to revamp your diet, exercise, and sleep all at once.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Remember the whack-a-mole effect.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Instead, commit to a consistent wake up time every day or pledge to drink one full glass of water before your morning coffee.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Small, microhabits lay the foundational neuropathways for lasting change.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: The biggest internal barrier to physical wellness is often professional or familial guilt, the underlying narrative that taking time to eat, rest, or move is inherently selfish.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: To push past this resistance, you need an operational mindset shift.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Self-care is not a luxury, it is a liability management strategy.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: When you neglect your health, you choose to show up as a compromised version of yourself for your team, your mission, and your family.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Once you master the basics, look at somatic awareness during high stress situations.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: In a high stakes meeting or a tense organizational transition, track your body's physiological signals.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Are your shoulders at your ears?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Is your breathing shallow?
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Apply an advanced strategy like box breathing, where you inhale for four seconds, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four right in the moment.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: This instantly downregulates your nervous system, preventing the physiological stress response from cementing into chronic burnout.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: When you truly master physical wellness, the long-term transformation is remarkable.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: You build an internal immunity to environmental and organizational stressors.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: You stop living in a state of crisis management and begin operating from a space of proactive power.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: This mastery fundamentally changes how you see your future.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: You stop viewing your health as a ticking clock or a fragile structure, and instead see your physical body as your most reliable ally and asset.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Here's my final challenge to you.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: Starting tomorrow, select one explicit boundary that honors your body's physical vehicle.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Whether that is turning off your screen 45 minutes before bed, stepping outside for 15 minutes of continuous movement, or consciously adding nutritional food to your plate, choose it, commit to it, and safeguard it.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: As we close out today's conversation, remember that rebuilding your physical foundation is a daily practice of patience, alignment, and respect for your body's natural ecosystem.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: It is the core anchor that allows you to show up fully in every single room you enter.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Until next time, keep on learning, stay inspired, continue to flourish, and never stop evolving.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Dr.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: C, and this is the Life Podcast.
