- 0:00Well, hello there, and welcome to the Modern yen Podcast.
- 0:03I'm Kimberly Roberts, founder of Soulfully yen, and today I have
- 0:10something a little bit different for you.
- 0:14So instead of a traditional long form kind of conversation that I
- 0:18usually have, I've created a curated collection of some
- 0:23really short reflections that I've been sharing recently and
- 0:26that have really been resonating with me.
- 0:29And they're all centered around the liver frustration, anger.
- 0:34And this spring season. Because let's face it babes,
- 0:40this time of year, many women start to notice something
- 0:44shifting. More irritability, more tension,
- 0:50more of that subtle feeling of being stuck.
- 0:57And in Chinese medicine, that's actually not random.
- 1:02There is reason for this. Spring is the season of the
- 1:06liver, which is responsible for that smooth flow of energy in
- 1:11the body. So if you've been kind of
- 1:15feeling like things have been building under the surface, this
- 1:20is often when we start to feel it.
- 1:23So as you listen, let this be something you move through
- 1:28slowly. You don't need to take any
- 1:30notes, just notice what resonates in your body, notice
- 1:36how you feel. So spring is just around the
- 1:40corner here. And in traditional Chinese
- 1:43medicine, it's all about the wood element, the liver organ
- 1:47system, which governs the flow of energy through our body.
- 1:52So when we feel irritated, frustrated, even like angry or
- 1:57resentful, that means we've got stagnant or stuck energy in the
- 2:02liver and it needs to move out. So simple practices like yin
- 2:08yoga actually help move that energy through.
- 2:12So then we feel happier and less stuck.
- 2:17So here's something about the liver that people don't
- 2:21understand. So I'm just coming back from the
- 2:25gym. There's like a massive ice storm
- 2:27out there. So of course my liver couldn't
- 2:30get the outdoor love, so it got indoor love instead.
- 2:34And I'll tell you, it's not quite the same because you just
- 2:38don't get the same emotional charge from the treadmill.
- 2:44But you know what, your liver still get some movement and
- 2:47that's all that matters. So let's go a little deeper into
- 2:51how this shows up in the body and where.
- 2:56So you know what's really interesting about your hips and
- 2:59tension? Do you ever notice that when you
- 3:03are more irritated or you're more frustrated or you're angry
- 3:07that your hips are tighter? It all makes sense because you
- 3:12know what? It's related to your liver and
- 3:14the liver Meridian channel that runs through your hips.
- 3:19I'm going to talk a lot more about this in my upcoming spring
- 3:23liver reset. And this is often where women
- 3:28start to feel stuck. Do you wake up between 1:00 and
- 3:343:00 AM? Because if you do, that time
- 3:39frame is connected to the liver. And in Chinese medicine, the
- 3:45liver is associated with frustration, with irritation,
- 3:50anger, even resentment. So if you are waking up between
- 3:561:00 and 3:00 AM, your liver is trying to release something.
- 4:01So maybe you should look at that.
- 4:05And this is often where women start to feel stuck, feeling
- 4:11really irritable lately. Your liver is probably
- 4:15overwhelmed. In Chinese medicine, the liver
- 4:18is responsible for that smooth flow of energy through your
- 4:23body. So things like movement, like
- 4:25what I'm doing right now, things like breath work and yin yoga
- 4:29practices help to move that stuck, irritable energy through
- 4:34the body so that you feel better and calm.
- 4:38And if there's one thing I know about the liver, it's this.
- 4:46Your liver needs movement. It also needs stillness.
- 4:50So I've been experimenting with moving my body and then getting
- 4:53really still and meditating afterwards.
- 4:56And it's seriously been a game changer for moving stuck energy
- 5:01in my liver, especially emotions like frustration and irritation.
- 5:05And let me finish off by saying a little something about anger.
- 5:13So anger isn't a bad emotion. In traditional Chinese medicine,
- 5:19they say that our emotions are just indicators of where we're
- 5:23at emotionally and energetically.
- 5:26It's how we process and release the emotions that makes all the
- 5:31difference in the world. As always, thank you so much for
- 5:36tuning in and pressing play on my episodes.
- 5:41I'll look forward to being here next week and I'll probably be
- 5:45in my P's and on camera, so have a great rest of your day.
