- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Guess where I'm not sitting today?
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: On my couch.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I am sitting at my desk today.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: How I would normally record a podcast.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: But if you listen to the last two, you know that I was on my couch for those last two.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Um because, you know, I was dying.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I was on my period.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: That was that first one.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And then the other one, I was just like so exhausted and drained.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And I could not fathom sitting on a chair.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: I needed to be cozy.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: But anyways, today's episode is going to be around nutrition.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Um, specifically around myths around nutrition and is meal prep really that important.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I really hope that you can't pick up or that this mic isn't picking up the neighbors upstairs because oh my god, they are being so, so loud.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: So I'm so sorry about that.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I really hope the mic isn't picking it up.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: But yeah, um, let's get into this.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: We're talking about nutrition.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna talk about how I go about prepping my food because I don't meal prep.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: A lot of people assume that because I'm in shape and I'm a fitness coach, that I meal prep my meals every Sunday, and that would be awesome, you know.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: But my Sundays, to be quite honest with you, they don't look like that.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: My Sundays are kind of random sometimes, because I do teach Pilates in the mornings on Sundays.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I teach two Matte Pilates sculpt classes, and then I actually do some work.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Um I go to a coffee shop and I do some work for my business, a little bit of back-end stuff, and then I basically finish that up and I go home and actually for the most part, yeah, I'll start cleaning, but I don't always have time to like meal prep a whole week's worth of food.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And to be honest with you, I'm also one of those people that doesn't like to eat the same meal for like four days straight.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Like, I could if I have to.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Um I could if I have to, and like I'm being a little bit more strict with my diet, but for the most part, I do kind of like to switch it up.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: And I do end up eating the same, I want to say for the most part, the same five meals every week.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So I might not eat the same meal for four days straight, but I do eat the same variety of meals throughout the week, which is like four to five different meals that I cook every night.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: So the way that I go about my nutrition is the only time I'm really actually cooking anything is during dinner time.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: During dinner on Sunday nights, I make dinner at home.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I make whatever we're gonna have for dinner, and luckily me and my husband are just a family of two.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It's just me and my husband.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and then, you know, our two dogs, but they don't eat human food.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So when we cook, we cook for four people, but we're only two people, right?
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: So whatever we have left over is enough to feed two more people.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: So we just end up packing that up for our lunch for the next day.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: So I typically just make something for dinner, I pack those leftovers for lunch the next day.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: He takes it with him to work if he goes into the office, and I eat that for lunch the next day.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: So that already removes one of the meals that I would have to cook, right?
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: It's my lunch.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: And that honestly, lunch tends to be like the hardest for most people because you know, you go into work, for example.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: I used to work a corporate job, so I know what that's like.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: You go to work, a lot of the times you don't take food with you.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: So during your lunch break, you go out and you buy food, whatever's the most convenient, right?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: They're not always the healthiest choices, and that's where a lot of people go wrong.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: So this is why I say that lunch tends to be the hardest because you know you're already starving, you're just desperate for anything, and you don't make the best choices.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: So a lot of the times our lunch meal is what ends up making people fall off track a little bit.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: For dinner, people tend to make whatever is the fastest and what's the most convenient at home, right?
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: So also sometimes not the best choices.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: And I say that because you might want to just heat up something that's a little bit more on the processed side or something that's like a little bit higher in fats.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, just not the best choices.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: But for me, the reason I like this method that I basically do every dinner time is I just make something pretty healthy that fits my macros during dinner, and I pack up the rest and I prep it for my lunch, and then the next day during my lunchtime, I'm also hitting my macros.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: So it just like knocks out two birds with one stone.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: It makes it so easy for you to hit your macros the next day and the next day and the next day, you know, because you're already hitting them at dinner the next day, you hit them at lunch.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Whatever you're gonna make for dinner that night, you hit them again at dinner, whatever you'd make that dinner, you hit them again the next lunchtime, right?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: So that just kind of leaves breakfast to be the thing you really have to think about, right?
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And I like to keep breakfast pretty simple.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: I actually like to just keep all my meals very simple because then it takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Um, but for example, if you follow me on Instagram, you see the breakfast that I post all of the time, which is two eggs, two turkey bacons, a sourdough toast with cottage cheese and honey.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: It's literally on there all the time.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: You probably like I don't even have to post it.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: You already know what I'm gonna have for breakfast.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Um, so that's what I usually make for breakfast when I'm home that day for breakfast.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: A lot of the times when I have to teach really early in the morning, because you guys know I teach super fucking early in the morning.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: I have to be at the studio by 5 45 a.m.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: So I'm waking up like at 4.30 in the morning.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: I am not gonna be fucking cooking at that time.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna cook.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Like, sorry, I'm barely trying to stay awake.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm trying to stay alive here.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna cook at 4.30 in the morning.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: On those days, I typically will have the breakfast that I just talked about when I come back from teaching.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, so usually when I come back from teaching is around 10 a.m.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: So I'll have like a late breakfast.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: But I don't go to work on an empty stomach.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: So, like I said, I'm driving to work around like 5-ish in the morning.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: I take a banana with me because carbs for energy.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: I also bring a protein shake with me because I like to get protein in as soon as I can in the morning because I need to eat 130 grams of protein every day, and I don't like to wait till the very last minute to get all of that in.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I start very early in the morning.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: And then um I also take a coffee with me.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: So I I make either a hot coffee or an iced coffee.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Um, actually, usually my husband makes it for me.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Thank God, because if not, then I would be running so behind.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: So bless him.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Love him.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Anyways, so that's generally what I do for breakfast.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: If I'm teaching super early in the morning, banana, protein shake, coffee.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: That's just like my on the road breakfast.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: If I feel like I need a little bit more of like carbs and stuff, and I'll still add protein to this, by the way, I'll do like an overnight oats.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And that's something that I would make like the night before, hence the name, overnight oats.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: But like if you notice, there's a pattern here.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: So, like I said, when I make dinner, whatever I have for dinner, I prep it for my lunch the next day.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: If I have to wake up super early and I want breakfast the next day, I prep some overnight oats the night before.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Or I have a protein shake ready for me already.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Um, there's always something ready for me, right?
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: But it's not like I'm spending three hours on a Sunday prepping all of my food for the entire week.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: No, I kind of just go through my day prepping little things here and there, and it takes me like five minutes.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: It takes literally an extra five minutes out of my day to do this.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: And the whole point of me like mentioning all of this is basically to tell you you don't have to meal prep on Sundays.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: This has come up a lot in my DMs or with like new clients that are just signing on with me.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: They always think like, oh, do I have to meal prep?
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Or uh, but I just don't have any time to meal prep on Sunday or Monday or whatever.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, babe, I don't even meal prep.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't spend three hours on a Sunday or a Monday cutting up a bunch of food, cooking a bunch of meats.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't spend that time doing that.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: I just add five minutes to whatever I'm already doing to set myself up for success the next day.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Like I said, dinner, cool, it's done.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna spend an extra five minutes putting this in a Tupperware for me tomorrow.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Overnight oats, that shit takes like five minutes to put together the night before.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: Same with a protein shake.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: You don't even a protein shake, you can put the protein powder already in your little cup thingy the next day.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: All you just have to do is add your liquid, whether that's water, whether that's like milk or whatever you want to use.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: You can also get protein shakes that are already pre-made.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Like Costco sells the Nuri ones.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: They also sell Chiwani ones.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Um, what else do they have?
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: I think they have like the Fair Life ones.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Like you can already get pre-made ones and just put them in the fridge so they're nice and cold for you.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: I feel like sometimes we just try to overcomplicate things and say, like, oh, I just don't have time for this or this or whatever.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: And it's like, it's really so simple.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: It's so simple.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: You can do it.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Like, trust me, I don't even meal prep.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the big deal around meal prepping for three hours is.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: I think everyone just likes to post their fucking Sunday routine on Instagram, and you think that that's what you need to do in order to succeed, but that's not what you need to do.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: There's other ways to be successful.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Like, I just shared with you my way.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: I shared the way that has helped me be successful, and I don't think it's anything groundbreaking.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Like, anyone can just make dinner and then pack the leftovers for lunch the next day.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: You can eat the same meal for the next day.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: Like, come on, don't be a baby.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: You're an adult.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: If you want to spend more time cooking, then cool.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: That's that's cool for you.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: I am not gonna spend a whole other hour cooking just to make a different meal for me to enjoy for lunch.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Like, I could eat the same thing the next day.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: You can have a different meal for dinner that day.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Like, don't be a baby.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: This way, you're only repeating a meal one time, and it makes your life so much easier.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know about you, but I love to save time.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: This strategy has literally helped me stay so consistent with my nutrition because it takes so much of the guesswork out of it, and it just makes it so much easier for you to stick to it when you have something ready for you.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I guess in a way, what I what I'm doing is in a way meal prepping.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: But I just associate meal prepping with like spending hours cooking a bunch of different food and like putting it in Tupperware.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: I just literally put whatever I made for dinner in a Tupperware and throw it back in the fridge for the next day.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Um, this strategy works for me.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: It's what's helped me stay consistent on my fitness journey, it's what's helped me get results.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: It takes zero extra time out of your day.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, I just it's not groundbreaking.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: It's not.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I'm not really sure why some people struggle so hard with this.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe I am a genius, I don't know.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: But I did end up putting together a list.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: I called it a grocery list, but it's more like it's kind of more like a meal plan in a way.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Um, I made a Google Doc where I showed the five meals that I was gonna be making for dinner this week.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: I put them all together in a Google Doc and I put all of the groceries in a list for you to take this to the grocery store and buy all the ingredients.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Make it for dinner, save whatever you have after you eat your dinner and pre-portion it out, by the way.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Save whatever you made, have it for lunch the next day, try this out and let me know how it works for you.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: If you need that list, just go over to my Instagram, DM me the word list, and I'll send it to you.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Like I said, it's kind of like a meal plan for the week.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: You make this for dinner, you save the rest for lunch.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: I also have my little breakfast recipe if you want to be making breakfast that day.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: But it's just the simple recipe for breakfast that I have basically every morning that I'm at home.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Um, it's on there.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: And yeah, there you go.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: You have breakfast, lunch, dinner for a whole week.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: I actually have this every single week, so I don't really switch it out that much.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: It's pretty much what I have every single week, and it's what's helped me stay on track and actually get results.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: Like, have you seen my results lately?
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Your girl has some toned ass arms.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: For me, that's a flex because I used to have the fattest arms ever, and I can confidently say that I don't have those anymore.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: But anyways, DM me the word list at my Instagram.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: I'll send you the list.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Try those recipes out.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: They're also really, really good, by the way.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Like they are so tasty, so good.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Try them out.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Let me know what you think.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: And there's a lot of little extra good information in there, by the way.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Let me know if you need anything, and I hope you learned something.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: I'll see you next week.
