- 0:05Hello and welcome back to another episode that reminds the
- 0:08broadcast we're on tour again. We are slightly less impressive
- 0:13than the last one with the swimming pool at Yorker.
- 0:16We're in an Ibis in Birmingham International Airport.
- 0:20We're here because it's a high rocked weekend, very on brand.
- 0:23I've actually just pulled Charles off the racecourse.
- 0:26How are you doing? I'm still like in the the post
- 0:31race come down, I think a little bit, yeah.
- 0:33So if you see me excessively drinking my water, if you're
- 0:35watching on YouTube, that that's the reason why.
- 0:38But now I'm I'm very happy with how it went and happy to be in
- 0:42the Ibis. Yeah, I mean, we don't have a
- 0:44water sponsor, but this is a great opportunity for water
- 0:47sponsors to see, you know, how you could be helpful for us.
- 0:49Charles actually did really well.
- 0:51He's actually done the the pro athlete thing twice in 24 hours.
- 0:56Yeah, too hard race in 24 hours. Too much?
- 0:57Probably. Probably, but I was about to say
- 1:01at least you've got the cool wristbands to show break.
- 1:03I've got the cool wristbands to show, break those on.
- 1:05They're already gone. I've got more, more Nick.
- 1:08In fact, that was someone's grown my gear.
- 1:11Yeah. Well, actually, I remember that.
- 1:12Have your gears ground by that? Now there's been other news
- 1:16before we get into your races in the world.
- 1:18I have noted this down because I I struggle with names sometimes.
- 1:23Ruth. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:25I know what. You're going to say.
- 1:27She's just been given a three-year ban from marathon
- 1:30running. Do you know what it was that she
- 1:31got caught with that broke the anti doping?
- 1:34No. I was going to say if you knew
- 1:35it would be with me. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:36It's hydrochlorothiazide. Hydrochlorothiazide.
- 1:41What's that do? Make you fast.
- 1:44Right. I thought so.
- 1:44Yeah, yeah, yeah. I thought that might be.
- 1:46But yeah, three-year ban, which I always find it really
- 1:49difficult with sports bans because it's like, that's really
- 1:54tough because that's three years of their life gone and sometimes
- 1:57they don't even know they've done it.
- 1:58It can be given to them by their coach in those scenarios.
- 2:01But also, is 3 years enough for the impact of it?
- 2:05And it's training to read. When it is your career, though,
- 2:09and you hear a lot of professional athletes talking
- 2:11about it, you're so particular with what you take into your
- 2:15body. So it's like you're not going to
- 2:16ingest something that someone's just randomly given you because
- 2:20of the risk. And everyone knows the risk, so
- 2:24it's unfortunate. And then maybe she didn't know
- 2:27what she was taking, but you can't have one rule for one
- 2:30person and one rule for another. I found something quite
- 2:34interesting the other day. I was reading, I don't know if
- 2:36you want to call it Twitter or XI was reading something on
- 2:39Twitter and X that referenced a study that had been done with
- 2:43fitness and how quickly you lose your fitness.
- 2:47Really interesting. Don't know if you've seen it.
- 2:49No, I haven't. They took runners, specifically
- 2:53people that had experience running marathons but weren't
- 2:55necessarily like elite marathon runners, and they were runners
- 2:59that had run or had done some level of fitness for every day
- 3:03of the year in the year prior in order to build up a level of
- 3:06fitness. And then they let some of them
- 3:09continue of 89 days, don't know why 89 but 89 days specifically
- 3:15they stopped to select group of people training.
- 3:18It was. It could have been the same
- 3:20vein. And their fitness dropped by
- 3:22less than 10% over that time, which I mean, you'd think if you
- 3:26took three months off, it would be more, it would be more.
- 3:29But what was more interesting is how quickly they gained that 10%
- 3:32back was within, I think less than half of the time they were
- 3:35offers rest. It's everything, isn't it?
- 3:38And then there's also the sport science side of it talking
- 3:40about, well, they also probably progressed really quickly
- 3:43because they had the rest. But yeah, really interesting.
- 3:47So then you look at the ban and it's like, well, she doesn't
- 3:50actually lose fitness for the first part of that year really.
- 3:52And she's still training. Well, that's still training,
- 3:54that's the thing. And then do you drop off the
- 3:57radar for testing? Yeah.
- 3:59So it's like for those three years, could you just be cycling
- 4:02more stuff so that when you when you get back?
- 4:05But I I don't know what the testing rules are or the
- 4:07regulations are when you've been banned, but you'd assume that
- 4:11they're going to return to a competition and as a result they
- 4:14should still be randomly tested. And never thought about tactical
- 4:16ban. Tactical ban is for a year.
- 4:18Juice up, come back. Yeah, but the implications of
- 4:22that within like your sport and you just become a villain and
- 4:24then everyone's, you'll always have an asterisk beside your
- 4:28name with any result that you ever have because will be like,
- 4:31oh, if they doped one time, then even if they're not on it now,
- 4:35have they had some benefits from it previously or whatever I got.
- 4:38It's hard. You'd rather just be established
- 4:40is pretty good at what you did. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:42Another, Yeah, another news piece that's come out talking,
- 4:46being caught. NBA stars.
- 4:49I want to know if you know any of these people.
- 4:50Oh, no. Chauncey Billups.
- 4:53No. Terry Rosier and Damon Jones.
- 4:56No. They are in.
- 4:58They are three NBA stars. Yeah.
- 5:00In a list of 30 people that have been taken down for illegal
- 5:04gambling and sports betting really like.
- 5:08Fixing game wise. Yeah, fixing gamers and yeah,
- 5:11insider knowledge and that sort of thing.
- 5:14Best thing on trade? There's lots of really good,
- 5:16like I think it's a docu series on Netflix about this.
- 5:19I think it might be college basketball.
- 5:22Is it going to be untold? Yeah, yeah, yeah, you've seen
- 5:24that. Yeah, that's really good.
- 5:26And, and, and then it's just like, I hate to be cynical, but
- 5:30then it's like it must happen in all when when money's involved,
- 5:33there's, there's doping, there's people trying to get the upper
- 5:36hand in some way. But yeah, I mean, it's a shame
- 5:39that it does happen. But I I don't know if this is a
- 5:40flex because. I'm going to give you the the
- 5:42numbers attached to it. But when I used to play American
- 5:44football, we were in the British final.
- 5:47It was on Sky on Sky Bet. You could bet on it.
- 5:50Oh, really? And I, I was there like, I'm
- 5:53playing at an amateur level. Yeah.
- 5:54Someone pay me to do something. Yeah.
- 5:56Yeah. But you could actually.
- 5:57Just like waiting for someone to you.
- 5:58Could only, you could only bet on the outcome of the game.
- 6:01And I was like, what do they know?
- 6:02Because the odds were so heavily against us.
- 6:04Yeah. And up until about the third
- 6:07quarter of the game, it was, it was a really close game.
- 6:10And then when you look at the final score, it was like, yes,
- 6:13Sky was really right. You didn't bet on yourself.
- 6:17I was close to Baines myself. So just just for reference, the
- 6:21team that we played averaged above 60 points scored for
- 6:25American football. Think about rugby scores.
- 6:27You don't American football and conceded on average less than
- 6:30three points per game for that whole season.
- 6:32That's crazy. So we lost I think it was like
- 6:3455 to 28. Oh, so you was 32.
- 6:39We put some points, we put some yeah, 3 touchdowns on the day.
- 6:42What am I saying? Anyway, the today's theme
- 6:46similar to last time but kind of the opposite end.
- 6:48We spoke a lot about pre race and what to do there.
- 6:51We then hosted a SIM. Actually, we should probably
- 6:54talk about that. I'd like to talk about that.
- 6:55Yeah, we hosted the same it. Was pretty fucking good.
- 6:57Yeah. Well, yeah.
- 6:58What do you want to talk about? Well, I was just going to say it
- 7:00was so good that now we're putting on another one.
- 7:03We we actually by popular demand, some of you guys
- 7:06listening and some other people that missed out on the first
- 7:09one. The next one is November the
- 7:109th, which I appreciate for those of you listening that
- 7:13didn't know about it is pretty soon get moving.
- 7:17Tickets are likely. To sell out.
- 7:19I don't know if they have sold out when you're hearing this,
- 7:21but they're selling pretty far. Hopefully for your sake they
- 7:24haven't sold out, Hopefully for our sake maybe they have.
- 7:27But yeah, genuinely get on board with it.
- 7:29We've got some interesting news as well which I can put in this.
- 7:32We had a brilliant bloke come down and he raced the SIM
- 7:37himself in a solo. He did one hour 10 minutes and
- 7:4018 seconds in his SIM with us. He then yesterday went and did
- 7:45the exact same format race at Highrock Birmingham and ran one
- 7:48hour 10 minutes and 14 seconds. And for those stats nerds out
- 7:52there, that is a difference of 0.001% in the time.
- 7:56So we're pretty smug. We're pretty smug.
- 7:59Yeah, I think that's fair. An outsider input when I told
- 8:03someone that was if we gave them a week and they ran a high,
- 8:07rocked Birmingham again, they probably wouldn't be that close.
- 8:10So we're just like magic. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:12No, it's it's and that's why it's important for us to not
- 8:16just put out false claims and go, we're the most accurate and
- 8:20we're XY and Z and we're doing this and we're the best as like
- 8:23a marketing ploy. But we've actually put thought
- 8:25into it. And this is the sport that we
- 8:27compete in and we want to be able to help people get better
- 8:30in their attempt at their races. So being able to actually name
- 8:35it probably the most accurate, I don't want to claim that, but it
- 8:40is, well, evidence suggests it's it's really freaking accurate.
- 8:43Yeah. And now I'm also thinking I'm
- 8:46probably going to do some of them myself just because like
- 8:49that's great. I can probably like I trusted it
- 8:52because obviously a lot of thought went into it, like I
- 8:53said, but now like the proof is quite literally in the pudding.
- 8:56So that was really good. So we did that in the lead up to
- 8:59that one. If you haven't listened to that
- 9:01and you've got a race or you're going to do the SIM on the 9th
- 9:03coming up, then definitely give that a listen.
- 9:06Pre race fuelling, pre race preparation, how to try out
- 9:08tactics. But now we're going to talk
- 9:10about the flip side because Charles is about to enter a post
- 9:12race phase, I suppose post double race phase.
- 9:15I'm in it, you're in it. First of all, let's talk about
- 9:17the races you did a pro double S, which is your first pro
- 9:21weight race, Pro Double S mixed double S today, two hours, two
- 9:27hours ago. So yeah, how how was each race?
- 9:32I think we had going let's talk Pro Double S 1st.
- 9:35I don't want to spend too long talking about myself, but going
- 9:38into it we had kind of like lofty goals of the elusive 60
- 9:43minutes. My partner Hugh, who I was
- 9:46racing with, was the partner that you ran with in London.
- 9:50Yeah. And you missed the hour by two.
- 9:52Sussex. So he was, he was ready for
- 9:56redemption. And I think we probably just
- 10:00started out a little bit too hot.
- 10:01I felt amazing. I'd had like a really, really
- 10:05solid taper. My prep in the lead up days
- 10:09towards it as well was really good in terms of nutrition.
- 10:12And the only thing that wasn't good was I'd work the morning
- 10:15shift that day or so yesterday. So I got up at 4:00 AM and the
- 10:20race was 5:30 PM. So it was like a long day for
- 10:23me. But the adrenaline took me
- 10:25through. And I think we just got carried
- 10:27away a little bit on the first run, probably second run as
- 10:31well. But we stick to a plan and the
- 10:35outcome was not what we wanted in terms of time.
- 10:38But I think overall effort, we put in a really big shift and we
- 10:41can be proud of that. And we ran one hour, 2 minutes,
- 10:44which is still like a really great time.
- 10:47I think our perception of great times is warped, especially by
- 10:51the fact that the winning time in our heat was a 49 minute
- 10:54race. 49 minutes 7. And you live by that and you
- 10:56just like Jake and Charlie and you just go, well, that's that's
- 11:00so mental, like two of the best athletes in the world at high
- 11:04rocks running the same heat as us.
- 11:06And you kind of get dragged into that and go, well, oh, my hour 2
- 11:09is really bad. But actually, you know, there's
- 11:11people biting your arm off to run the hour too.
- 11:14So we were pretty pleased with that.
- 11:16I, I know I've got more in the tank for sure.
- 11:19I'm really happy with how the running felt.
- 11:21And then woke up this morning and I was terrified because my
- 11:25quads were sore to touch, my glutes hurt, my lower back was a
- 11:28bit sore, my soleus hurt. Like all of these things.
- 11:31And then we ran a really solid race again today and ran 5859
- 11:38average run pace 4 minutes, which is awesome.
- 11:41So really consistent on the running.
- 11:42And yeah, it went to plan And again, I feel like I've got more
- 11:45in the tank. So I think it's a a really
- 11:48positive way to start my season because those are my first two
- 11:50races I was. Going to say last season,
- 11:52obviously you were coming, it was your first sort of races of
- 11:54high rocks generally, but. Coming off the back of injury.
- 11:57The, the level of confidence you had at the start of the season
- 12:01wasn't high and then what happened during the season took
- 12:04it to the floor. So I think from from like from
- 12:07my side as a, as a mate. The bounce back, the bounce.
- 12:10Back is huge, yeah. So like, so deserved, but also
- 12:13so required. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:15But I, I, I, I look back at my form going into Stockholm last
- 12:19December and I was in really good shape.
- 12:22My running probably was about as good as it is now, maybe a
- 12:26little bit slower, but physically on the stations I was
- 12:28in really good shape. I just cocked up the first run
- 12:31and ran an extra lap, which everyone still loves to joke
- 12:34about. And that just, yeah, like you
- 12:36said that not my confidence. I was like, am I going to be
- 12:39able to get into better shape than that?
- 12:42I'd worked really hard, really consistent for that.
- 12:44So that was frustrating for me. And, and, and we've spoken about
- 12:48it so many times before. And like Cardiff was also a good
- 12:51example. That was me going in with like,
- 12:53I'm going to redeem myself from Stockholm and I just put too
- 12:56much pressure on it. Nathan said it to me in the warm
- 13:00up area just now. He's like, I've never seen you
- 13:01like this relaxed before racing. Like what's going on?
- 13:05Why aren't you stressed? And and I, I, I truly was just
- 13:08excited and I do feel like stress and anxiety or like pre
- 13:12race nerves and excitement. They ride basically the same
- 13:16line and it's just how you want to interpret it.
- 13:19So I was just last night as well.
- 13:21I was a bit more nervous last night, but after I settled into
- 13:24it and I was running hard and like I knew I was the stronger
- 13:28one in the pair, that gave me confidence and I could really
- 13:31settle in and enjoy it and, and today as well, I was just like,
- 13:33I just want to go and have a good time, yeah.
- 13:35I think one one thing that's interesting though, how did the
- 13:38once you started running and you got out there, how did the body
- 13:41feel? Not right, really.
- 13:43Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK, interesting.
- 13:45And I and I felt that in the warm up area as well, I didn't
- 13:48touch the sleds today. So we discussed.
- 13:50It's really funny. In the last episode and I said I
- 13:52never touched the sleds in the warm up air because all it can
- 13:54do is turn bad. If if the sled moves really
- 13:57well, then your brain and what will probably actually happen in
- 14:00the race is the sled in the race won't move as well.
- 14:02If the sled doesn't move well and now you're just over
- 14:04thinking about how tough the sled is and you're like now I
- 14:06like it. After yesterday, he comes up to
- 14:08me in the warm up area and he's like, hey, I couldn't move to
- 14:11sled. It's like now you're over
- 14:12thinking. It the thing that was in the
- 14:14issue, I think in the warm up area was the turf wasn't it was
- 14:19the same turf. I assume it may have been
- 14:21slightly different, but it wasn't like secured to the
- 14:23floor. So and it was only the second
- 14:25time that I'd worn those shoes. So I wasn't particularly
- 14:29confident in the in the grip in the shoes, but because the turf
- 14:33wasn't secure to the floor, it just there was no grip and the
- 14:36turf was moving and crumpling up.
- 14:38So I was looking around and seeing other people try and move
- 14:41the sled. Honestly, I couldn't move it,
- 14:43like I couldn't move it. And I've been working hard on my
- 14:46sled push. So that put me in kind of like I
- 14:49was a bit nervous about the sled push.
- 14:50But once we got to the sled push and it started moving fine, I
- 14:53was good. But today, yeah, in the warm up
- 14:56area as well, running my legs felt like lead got out on the
- 15:00first run. Again, it's always a, a mental
- 15:04thing for me because I was in front of my partner.
- 15:07It allowed me to go, OK, I'm I'm the stronger one here.
- 15:10I'm kind of dictating the pace. I'm not having to chase.
- 15:14So I'm always on the front foot then and, and positive and
- 15:17mentally that really is positive for me.
- 15:20And as a result, I can kind of relax a little bit more and, and
- 15:23no, I'm not like slowing my partner down, if that makes
- 15:25sense. I think if you flip that and I
- 15:27was the slow one in the pair and I was chasing someone, I think
- 15:31mentally that would be much tougher for me.
- 15:33But I'd be interested to put myself in that position because
- 15:37I feel like having a slightly faster partner is the thing
- 15:40that's probably causing me to not go as fast as maybe I could
- 15:43do. Yeah, I think from speaking from
- 15:46experience of having like a faster partner earlier this
- 15:49year, in the moment, horrible, on reflection, so good.
- 15:56Yeah, so, so good. Like, I'd much rather finish a
- 15:58race and feel like I should apologize.
- 16:00Yeah. Then finish a race and be like,
- 16:05I wish, I wish I could have dragged them a bit more, helped
- 16:08them out a bit more on that so they could have done more there.
- 16:11The best fit they they would they, they last night they were
- 16:13really good at policing the fast lane and pushing people out of
- 16:17the fast lane. I think it that would be because
- 16:19you had Charlie in general, right?
- 16:20Yeah, yeah, yeah. And one point we went around the
- 16:23corner where the start tunnel was and they released the men's
- 16:26proheat and it was carnage and I just heard Charlie screaming in
- 16:30my ear over my shoulder. For anyone who doesn't know,
- 16:31it's Charlie Bottle who's probably the best in the UK
- 16:35right now. Wow, vastest times higher than
- 16:38that in the world with his time. He's now in the early 15 sodas
- 16:41as well as I mean level cemental.
- 16:42So at their level average of 316 kilometre pace for saying like
- 16:4749 is a ridiculous time. So they'd set the third fastest
- 16:50time in history. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:51So yeah, it was very. And that was though, I mean,
- 16:54there were lots, there were lots of really fast people in my heat
- 16:56last night, but they were I heard Charlie screaming,
- 16:59screaming, screaming. I'm like, oh, need to get out of
- 17:01his way. Like I don't want to be the
- 17:02person who ruins his time. But as a result of that,
- 17:05everyone got out of their way. It's like when an ambulance goes
- 17:08down the down the road and all the cars park.
- 17:10And I was like, well, I'm just going to jump on the bandwagon
- 17:12and just slide in behind Jake and just chose the, the, the
- 17:16empty line. But today was the was busy.
- 17:18Obviously it was double S, so like double the amount of people
- 17:21on track. We had some stragglers from the
- 17:23women's pro as well. So it was getting busy and they
- 17:26weren't as good at policing it, but there was one point on the
- 17:29last run where I was like I knew it was on to go sub 60.
- 17:33So I was like, I'm not letting anyone get in my way here.
- 17:36One guy steps into the fast lane and I don't shout.
- 17:39It doesn't, It doesn't really annoy me too much, but I just
- 17:42put my hand on his back like fully politely, like he stepped
- 17:45in front of me and I just pushed him and, and we went and I for
- 17:50sure think he ran his fastest split there because he was just,
- 17:54I think he loved it. And then we got him out of the
- 17:56way and then we're like, but he he was, he was all good with it
- 17:59or we had a laugh about it afterwards.
- 18:01But yeah, I think that was like a really good race for me.
- 18:06And like I said, like a really good way to start my season.
- 18:09Yeah, I had this is so random, but I feel like it's funny to
- 18:12talk like I was filming someone today.
- 18:14So I'm obviously up here for the the next few days filming and
- 18:18they were going through it on the lunges and they were just
- 18:21having a bit of a tough race. I think they've come out of the
- 18:23back of what everyone's got with like COVID or some infection.
- 18:26So he was saying to me like, I'm really struggling to breathe as
- 18:28it is. But on the lunges he was like,
- 18:29mate, and now there's just nothing left in the tank.
- 18:32And I was trying to like film him and coach him and be like,
- 18:34look, just give me one lunge, 2 breaths, 1 lunge, gang him
- 18:37through it. He got through it and he was
- 18:39like, OK, cool. He dropped the bag, started
- 18:42running and then like stopped and it almost looked like he was
- 18:44going to do up a shoelace and then like carried on running and
- 18:48like stumbled over to a bin, throw up in the bin, ran away.
- 18:52And I was like, yes, stopped at the next bin and threw up.
- 18:56And what I'd said to him on the lunges as well was try and like
- 18:58do that thing where you make someone smile.
- 19:00I was like, mate, when you come past me on the next run, throw
- 19:02up a peace sign or something. And he smiled at the time and I
- 19:04was like, cool, that's going to work.
- 19:05He's going to feel better that RP is going to drop and all of
- 19:08that. So he threw up in both bins and
- 19:11then ran round and it is actually great content.
- 19:15But he threw up a double P sign at me and just looked so gone.
- 19:20So I spoke to him about it for the race.
- 19:21So he, he, he was like, no, I really wanted to throw up the
- 19:23peace signs. And I was like, I, I respect.
- 19:25You so so good. It's tough out there like it's
- 19:28there's no two ways about it. Whatever your fitness level is,
- 19:31whatever your ability, if you're pushing yourself hard, whether
- 19:34you do 2 hours, one hour, 49, like it's really hard race.
- 19:38And and that's, that's like you should come away from it feeling
- 19:42like you've spent, like you've spent.
- 19:44Yeah. Because like in reality, as long
- 19:46as you have been training for it, that's what you've been
- 19:47training for. Like you should do, because
- 19:49otherwise you haven't. Pushed yourself.
- 19:51Pushed yourself to. The way that your training
- 19:53deserves, I think is really important.
- 19:57Yeah. So I'm now jealous.
- 19:59I've got a bit of FOMO. I want to get running again.
- 20:03But yeah, I think. We're going to have to get some
- 20:06stuff in next season. Maybe we do a a podcast special
- 20:09run out that could be cool and maybe we test it at The Rock.
- 20:14SIM, that could be awesome as well.
- 20:15Yeah, that'd be. Cool as well.
- 20:18Do you know what's also really cool about that guys?
- 20:20Let us know in the comments if you'd like to see this.
- 20:22High rocks. You're not allowed phones,
- 20:24you're not allowed music, you're not allowed cameras.
- 20:27What would it look like to go sub hour?
- 20:29No one knows if they don't run sub hour.
- 20:31Well, what if we run with a camera?
- 20:33That's a good idea. If you like that, put it in the
- 20:35comments. If they don't like it, don't put
- 20:37it in the comments. But I'll do it anyway.
- 20:40Yeah. So now we've got a slightly
- 20:42tight schedule because I'm aware you need to get onto a train.
- 20:44And I've literally, as he said, ripped him off the racetrack to
- 20:47be the podcast. But everyone's favorite time of
- 20:51episode Cry My Gears hit me with a grind my gear.
- 20:56My one has been grinding my gears for so long and it's it's
- 21:00very again, I feel like mine is so niche and so specific, but
- 21:04it's another coach specific one and something I experienced
- 21:07basically daily when I'm in the gym coaching.
- 21:10It's people turning up to my classes late.
- 21:13Now a personality trait of me is I like to be early and I it's
- 21:19stressing me out being late. I like to be awkwardly early to
- 21:23things, whatever. So even if someone's like a
- 21:27minute late to them, it doesn't matter if they're, they're like
- 21:30a late person, they're like, ah, it's only a minute.
- 21:31But I got a strict schedule in my class plan to get things
- 21:35done. And if I wait even 1-2 minutes,
- 21:39not only am I disrespecting all the other people who have
- 21:41managed to get there on time slash early, it's set me on the
- 21:44back foot to try and get everything fit into my class.
- 21:47So then I'm racing the clock to get everything done and then I
- 21:50can't do as thorough a job as a coach.
- 21:52But more than that, people turn up late and then start
- 21:58disrupting because the first thing that I do in my class, I
- 22:01tell people about the workout. So they come in and I'm talking
- 22:05to a group of people about what the workout is.
- 22:07And then they're like start talking to other people who are
- 22:10already there and it's just the disrespect.
- 22:12Or they won't even come to the whiteboard.
- 22:15They'll just go straight into the toilet or during my
- 22:18whiteboard brief, I'm explaining what the workout is and they'll
- 22:21just like saunt her off, like fill their water bottle up.
- 22:23And I'm like, I know you're paying to come to this gym, all
- 22:26right? I know that's your privilege,
- 22:28you come here, but just have a little bit more respect for me
- 22:31as a coach. Maybe it's just they don't
- 22:32respect me that's the main problem.
- 22:34That's fair. Having having worked in a gym on
- 22:37the front desk we had a rule where if you're 5 minutes late
- 22:40the door is locked. But maybe I'm too lenient.
- 22:43That's that is such a good idea because it gets the message
- 22:47across. There's nothing worse than
- 22:49locking the door and I remember turning up.
- 22:52If if if it was my gym I probably would have a rule like
- 22:54that. But but like I totally agree
- 22:57with the rule but when I'm the person that's locked the door.
- 22:59Staring at you, you're like. Like obviously I'm going to let
- 23:02you in. You know, I feel awful.
- 23:04And it's like 6:00 in the morning, they've come 20 minutes
- 23:07or whatever it is at that time. It's rain.
- 23:09Like what are you going to do? Because especially but you.
- 23:12Only have to do it once. Well, you say that.
- 23:14But that's a that's a personality trait of just like
- 23:16people are late and they don't think that it's like something
- 23:19that's a problem. I'm just I think I have no
- 23:21backbone when I beat the fact that like a lot of people that
- 23:23go to the gym at that time in the morning will go to the gym
- 23:25because that's their pre, that's their their work out done, but
- 23:28also that's their shower before work.
- 23:30If I take away their powerful work, I'm a horrible yeah, you
- 23:34can't run. And use the shower.
- 23:36You just can't train, you know, Maybe that's right.
- 23:38Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:39OK, so my primary grind, my gear, which is hot off the press
- 23:44from today and yesterday, people that bring prams or even worse
- 23:49and specifically actually I should make him about this,
- 23:52double prams to sports events because they're huge.
- 23:57And I, I understand that especially when you've got
- 23:59events that happen on weekdays, you can't get childcare so
- 24:04easily. Maybe you've actually had to
- 24:05take the day off work to be here.
- 24:08Arguably the child should be in school unless it's really
- 24:10little. Maybe if it's the pram, maybe
- 24:12not, but I never see the children in them and I just see
- 24:19the pram in the way. And the param is a vehicle to
- 24:22move stuff as well, isn't it? It's just like rather than
- 24:25carrying a backpack, you just put stuff in it.
- 24:26And it's just like, it's just really annoying and and if I'm
- 24:29going to go one level deeper, just don't bring young kids to
- 24:32the event. They don't want to be there.
- 24:34It's bad for their ears if anything.
- 24:36And like, they do just get in the way.
- 24:39I find it difficult to rationalize with this one, but
- 24:43I, I, I appreciate that they get in the way.
- 24:45Yeah, but what are you going to do?
- 24:47You've got little kids. You have to bring them.
- 24:49This is this. I, I, I get that.
- 24:51This is actually funny because I was thinking about this when I
- 24:54was like, so niche and not sport related.
- 24:56But now you brought it up. There's a thing where people
- 25:00will use the pram with the child in it to like get into spaces
- 25:04that there's no room for, to fit into.
- 25:07Or they, they're basically like using their kid as a way of like
- 25:12getting priority or privilege. And I'm like, don't use your kid
- 25:16like that. Yeah, I'm like, I'm happy to get
- 25:18out of your way, that's fine, but don't like crash into my leg
- 25:22or like get in front of me in the queue or something by using
- 25:25your kid as an excuse. Yeah, valid.
- 25:29Interestingly, there's another podcast that has done they they
- 25:35basically committed fraud, right?
- 25:37And they've taken a grind my gear section.
- 25:39Oh, really? They haven't actually called it
- 25:40that. They haven't given it a name
- 25:42yet, but there's no way that the the content did as well as it
- 25:46did and it's not going to be a regular piece.
- 25:47But this is interesting. People taking their Strava
- 25:51marathon time over their chip time.
- 25:56Don't get me started. Strava is the pinnacle of sports
- 26:02performance tracking, as you're fully aware of, because you love
- 26:05it. I do love Strava.
- 26:06But I hadn't even thought of the fact that people would be doing
- 26:10that. Wild, but I it didn't it didn't
- 26:14annoy me until I started racing again and then people are
- 26:19posting times from their Strava which are faster than my chip
- 26:22time. You don't need to post your
- 26:24Strava time because you've paid to do an official event to get
- 26:27chip timed. The argument though, I saw
- 26:30someone arguing this in the in the car.
- 26:32Really the argument was I couldn't stick to the race line
- 26:36which is there because it was so busy.
- 26:39So I have run that exactly. Yeah.
- 26:42Yeah, it bounces. If you don't know that and you
- 26:44live in London, go to Batley Park and you'll run a 242 for
- 26:48100 meters. Then it'll be a 619.
- 26:50Yeah, your your success isn't that accurate.
- 26:52It's rubbish. So yeah, you can't, you can't be
- 26:56doing that. That's like saying it's like you
- 26:57asking me what my best marathon time is and I go, oh, my watch
- 27:01tells me I can do it in 242. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:03Or me just going off my Garmin predicted what, my 5.
- 27:06That's what I mean. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:08But yeah, my, my half marathon PB chip time, that's what I take
- 27:13and it's like it's just sub 90. But I look at my Strava and that
- 27:17looks a lot more healthier, like a 128 something.
- 27:20I'm like you've you've paid to do an official event.
- 27:22That's where you've got your PB. Grind my gear off the back of
- 27:25the watch thing. Oh no, people using their HRV as
- 27:30a do you know what actually this is this is this is funny.
- 27:35You know our horoscopes, right? The athlete equivalent of a
- 27:40horoscope is the data on your watch.
- 27:43Because there are people that will be like, as much as I don't
- 27:46know what a Capricorn and a Scorpio.
- 27:48The difference is between that people will look at their sleep
- 27:51and their HRV and try and predict their life as equally.
- 27:54As someone that's actually really it's a horoscope analogy.
- 27:57Because someone, I literally heard someone after a 10K race
- 28:02be like, mate, I just I knew I was going to run in like a 38
- 28:06because my HRB was bad last night and I was like, I looked
- 28:10at the stars and they weren't aligned, wasn't aligned and I
- 28:13just knew I was going to run over.
- 28:15There you go. Funny.
- 28:16I'm also there and I'm like, that's faster than I could run
- 28:18than gay probably. But like sure, if your stars
- 28:21didn't align then. Now you have to have an excuse,
- 28:23otherwise, yeah, that's funny. That's a good one.
- 28:27Well, I mean, we didn't have too many in the way of submissions
- 28:30this week, which means that you guys are listening and watching
- 28:32have let us down slightly. There's no way that we are the
- 28:35only two people in this universe, let alone this
- 28:37country, to get pissed off by stuff.
- 28:38So if you're getting pissed off, slash when you're getting pissed
- 28:41off, don't even use your notes page like we do.
- 28:44Just send it straight into the podcast page or to either of us
- 28:47directly. We can keep it anonymous if it's
- 28:49really bad. If anything, that's even better.
- 28:53But if you want to be known for one, especially if there's
- 28:56virality to it, then send us your name and we'll give you all
- 28:59the credit. Now, that means that we're going
- 29:02into this week's game. This week's game is simple.
- 29:05You've you've spent a long time doing it game so.
- 29:08Well again, try to do the efficient thing with my
- 29:12generation and use CHA GPT. Cha GPT doesn't understand the
- 29:15game. I've tried quite a few times.
- 29:17I've got no chance then. We're playing higher or lower.
- 29:21Oh cool. So, Oh, no, higher or lower.
- 29:25I'm going to start off by giving you the first statistic and then
- 29:28we're going to go from. There.
- 29:29This is good. I'm going to be terrible.
- 29:30OK, Can we just preface it with that?
- 29:32I. Think it's easy because I'd be
- 29:37asked for this and I've put the question together so it seems
- 29:39really obvious to me, but we'll see.
- 29:42Interesting fact. In 2024 Wimbledon ticket sales
- 29:47brought in £409 million. Wow wow Patrick Mahomes, the NFL
- 29:57quarterback signed a record-breaking contract yeah
- 30:01across 10 years. What's higher, his salary for
- 30:08that 10 year contract or the Wimbledy ticket sales number?
- 30:13The problem is I I don't, I didn't even believe the number
- 30:16of Wimbledon ticket sales, £109 million in.
- 30:20Sales that is mental. It's not obviously profit,
- 30:22that's just sales. I've seen some big numbers with
- 30:26NFL contracts and Mahomes obviously arguably the number
- 30:31one quarterback in the league. How over 10 years is a 10?
- 30:36Year contract, which is in itself crazy, is crazy.
- 30:42I'm I'm going with my gut, I'm going to say lower.
- 30:48OK. Do you want to have a guess of
- 30:49what his contract was? I'm sure it's probably, I mean
- 30:53actually 40 odd million a year over 10 years.
- 30:56Wait, what was? It 409,000,400 and 9,000,000
- 31:01lbs. No, I, I, I I wouldn't be able
- 31:06to guess maybe can I change my answer?
- 31:08I've committed to lower change your answer.
- 31:10No, I'm going gut because I'm sticking with lower bar you.
- 31:12Want to stick with lower? Yeah.
- 31:13Do you want to hedge your guess at what?
- 31:15Probably like between 2:50 and 300.
- 31:19OK. So Patrick Mahomes over his 10
- 31:21year contract should in theory earn 500 $500 million which is
- 31:33375,000,000 lbs which is lower. I was you were right 3.
- 31:38175,000,000 lbs which is lower than Wimbledon ticket sales but
- 31:42across the 10 years. He's quite close then with me I
- 31:43guess. Which means that he averages
- 31:46$37.5 million a year in his contract.
- 31:50Now, in the news recently, I don't know if you saw this, but
- 31:54there was a robbery from the Louvre in Paris.
- 31:59It was actually like a massive heist.
- 32:01Have you heard about it? No.
- 32:02OK so for people who don't know, there was an actual heist really
- 32:05under the Louvre recently, literally in the last two weeks
- 32:09and there were 4 robbers and they stole a shit load of
- 32:12jewelry that is the equivalent. Oh, I did see this been trendy.
- 32:15Yeah, I did see this. You know, people being like, how
- 32:17do I sell this now? And The funny thing?
- 32:20Is that it could all be legit? Which thing is a meme?
- 32:23So. Oh wow.
- 32:25The jewelry stolen from Paris in a daylight robbery, It's
- 32:30valuation. Is it higher or lower than the
- 32:33$37.5 million, £37.5 million that Patrick Mahomes will earn
- 32:40yearly? Are you going to do another
- 32:41thing where it's actually in Euros?
- 32:43I can give you both. EUR and pounds, it's got to be
- 32:45higher. You think higher?
- 32:47Yeah, OK. So it was valued at €88 million,
- 32:51which is £76 million. OK, $102 million.
- 32:56Now we're going back to sport. Cool.
- 32:59The highest earning athlete in the world right now for this
- 33:04year 2025. Any guesses to you guys?
- 33:09Footballer. It is Ronaldo.
- 33:11It is Ronaldo. Is his yearly earnings this year
- 33:15higher or lower than £76 million higher?
- 33:20OK, you are correct. Yeah, his earnings on the top
- 33:24he's on, he's the top of the 2025 earnings list, 275 million
- 33:28in the one year, which makes it hat trick Mahomes contract.
- 33:30Yeah, ridiculous. Yeah.
- 33:34So he is earning $50 million of that purely from endorsements.
- 33:41Emil Heskey. You've got to keep up.
- 33:44Emil Heskey was once a very famous for being the best
- 33:49striker in in football worldwide before he went downhill.
- 33:54He set a world record-breaking signing fee in the year 2000
- 33:58when he moved from the Leicester City to Liverpool.
- 34:02Was it higher or lower than Cristiano Ronaldo's endorsement
- 34:07earnings this year? So £50 million, the 50 million,
- 34:11sorry, $50 million, so just under £50 million in 2000.
- 34:15In the year 2000, lower, low world record-breaking transfer,
- 34:22transfer fee. Yeah, lower, OK, you are
- 34:24correct. It was £11 million 11,000,000
- 34:28Which one you? Think.
- 34:28Don't. Mind games with me, But not just
- 34:30inflation, but 11,000,000 lbs Yeah.
- 34:33Would buy you Jack shit today in football.
- 34:36Yeah, it's embarrassing. How bad.
- 34:38Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:39OK, 11,000,000 is the number. Yeah.
- 34:44How many London Marathon applications were there this
- 34:46year? Oh that's a great question.
- 34:49This is a sore topic and I don't want to talk about WOW
- 34:5411,000,000. I'm going to say lower.
- 34:58OK. You want me to guess a number?
- 35:02If you want to you. Don't have.
- 35:03No, I'm not. I'm not putting my name into it.
- 35:06It's still ridiculously high. It was 1.1 million.
- 35:08Yeah, yeah, yeah. Applications.
- 35:09Which is mentor? Half of those are my.
- 35:12So 1.1 million? How many golf balls do titles
- 35:17make per day? Oh wow, Titles are the biggest
- 35:21golf ball manufacturer in the world.
- 35:23Crow V1. Crow V1 is, yeah, the historic
- 35:26golf ball. A day.
- 35:29A day. Oh, that's tough, but I'm going
- 35:33higher or. Lower than higher or lower than
- 35:341.1? Million, yeah, lower.
- 35:37OK, it's lower tireless Make 1,000,000 golf balls a.
- 35:41Day Oh yeah so it's. Real close.
- 35:44OK, that's wild. According to the Isaiah.
- 35:47Yeah. Yeah, A day?
- 35:49No, according to the ice hockey federation, the IHF, Yeah.
- 35:53How many registered ice hockey players are there worldwide?
- 35:56Is it higher or lower than 1,000,000?
- 36:00Oh, that's tough. Worldwide, I'm going to say
- 36:05higher. You say hi, OK, niche sport, but
- 36:091.65 million, let's go. OK.
- 36:15In Formula One, OK. Some teams such as Red Bull have
- 36:19been known to pay their drivers 55,000,000.
- 36:22Now they're at the very top. They've got the likes of Max
- 36:24Verstappen. I mean, you look at Ferrari, who
- 36:27have got Charles Leclerc and and Lewis Hamilton, they spend a lot
- 36:31of money on their drivers. The teams at the bottom
- 36:33absolutely cannot manage to do the thing.
- 36:35Yeah, yeah. How much did Williams Racing pay
- 36:40their drivers in 2024? Is it higher or lower than 1.64
- 36:45million? So that's Albon.
- 36:47Carlos Sainz, No. Carlos Sainz is this year.
- 36:50Oh, who was there? I can't even remember it might
- 36:53have been I don't think it was bought a letter I think he's
- 36:56current with. Well, that's who.
- 36:59Can't remember, he's probably. That's the thing.
- 37:02Interesting how to keep both of them together?
- 37:06And I need to get. Higher alert 1.64 Higher.
- 37:11OK, you can guess if you want. No.
- 37:14OK, it looked like you wanted to say number.
- 37:16It is higher. They were paid a combined total
- 37:20of 4 million. That's, that's crazy low for F1,
- 37:23isn't it? Which is, so it's such a.
- 37:25Stupid, I guess so. So the number is 4 million, so
- 37:28that was also dollars. So $4 million the number how
- 37:32much did what became Born GP by Honda for?
- 37:39Wow. Is it higher or lower than
- 37:41higher $1,000,000 OK, you want to guess a number?
- 37:44No. The answer's lower.
- 37:47Shut up. Braun GP bought Honda.
- 37:50I was doing so well. For 1 LB.
- 37:52Oh fine, I I jumped the gun. The 1 LB.
- 37:56Coin It was a £1.00 coin. Just because they bought a load
- 37:59of debt. There's a documentary on it on
- 38:01Disney. I was about to say that you
- 38:03could probably stream somewhere else.
- 38:04You can. You can stream illegally.
- 38:05You know, it isn't I I wouldn't actually recommend doing that
- 38:09because it's presented by God. What's his name?
- 38:13Who's the guy that did Matrix fame?
- 38:15The Matrix. Famous actor Keanu Reeves.
- 38:17Yeah. Keanu Reeves presented by Keanu
- 38:19Reeves and his He has zero knowledge of Formula One and the
- 38:22entire time it's very obvious he has zero knowledge to Formula
- 38:26One. It's quite painful to watch I.
- 38:28Was doing well now I was doing so well.
- 38:30Higher or lower than a pound? OK.
- 38:33How much is it to take part in the rocks sin?
- 38:38Oh, it's higher. It's higher, but it's priceless.
- 38:41Ladies and gentlemen, we'll see you on November the 9th.
- 38:44Yeah, you did really well in that.
- 38:45Yeah, I was good game, I was good on it.
- 38:47Good role, good role on that though, like it's it's
- 38:52tremendous value for SIM and like like genuinely.
- 38:54Yeah, I mean, you genuinely like we look at this, I'm
- 38:58potentially, I haven't decided on my next race.
- 39:01I have a race book that I haven't decided on it because
- 39:03I'm at a point where I've raced enough times, fortunately where
- 39:07I know what I am actually capable of and what I would like
- 39:11to be capable of. If I don't think I'm going to be
- 39:14capable of doing a time I'm proud of, why would I spend £120
- 39:19to not enjoy it? And.
- 39:20Potentially have to travel somewhere.
- 39:22Yeah, especially yeah, if you're.
- 39:24Well, I mean, you're travelling anywhere in Nest, you're racing
- 39:26in London and a train ticket to Manchester or Birmingham even.
- 39:29Yeah. You're you're looking at like a
- 39:31£200 even if you can do it in a day. £200 and and for.
- 39:35A lot of people. Plus autograph package £50.
- 39:39So yeah, so if you actually throw on photos and you don't
- 39:41get videos in your Higher Ox races, but if you just included
- 39:44that as a sports graph package, then you are, you're literally
- 39:47paying 170 lbs a ticket for the event alone and that's all you
- 39:52get. So genuinely, we're not trying
- 39:55to take on Higher Ox as a company here like we know, but.
- 39:58It is. It is like we want to give a
- 40:00good. Tool to aid your training.
- 40:03It's the people's hybrid race really at the end of the day,
- 40:06like if you want to, yeah, like Charles said, aid your training.
- 40:09Or if you actually just enjoy doing the race form and you
- 40:12don't have a place to do it other because most people don't.
- 40:15It's in central London, it's well connected.
- 40:16Even if you're not in London and you can get into London, it's
- 40:18very easy to get to. Then give us a message and we'll
- 40:23make it work. Or if you know you can make it,
- 40:25buy a ticket. I'm going to hedge your bet on
- 40:28saying that November 9th probably isn't going to be the
- 40:30last one we. Do Oh, it won't be.
- 40:31So if you can't make November the 9th, don't worry about it.
- 40:34Just keep an eye on the mindsets podcast at Mindsets, under score
- 40:38podcast page at Rocks under score Sport page and our
- 40:42independent pages as well. You will find any tickets to any
- 40:46events that we've got going on there.
- 40:48Please do come down, even if it's to watch and take part.
- 40:50We actually have often got free things to give away and we don't
- 40:55want to carry them home. So that means they've got to go
- 40:56home in someone's pockets. They might as well be your
- 40:58lovely people's pockets. But yeah, I think that wraps up
- 41:03our episode. Anything else for me?
- 41:06Hopefully we won't be in Ibis next time we film.
- 41:09Maybe not. And to make sure it opens, hit
- 41:13subscribe, hit like, share it with a friend and repost all the
- 41:17posts. Please get in touch.
- 41:19We want to. We keep growing things.
- 41:21Things are very busy. We keep doing that to ourselves.
- 41:24So we're going to keep plugging away with the podcast episodes,
- 41:26but some point it's going to ramp up, maybe 226.
- 41:30Please be involved in making that happen.
- 41:33I was going to say we love you all.
- 41:34That seemed really deep to say in someone's ear when they might
- 41:37be at work by now. But we do love you all.
- 41:40So I look forward to seeing you in the next episode.
