- 0:07If you have an anxious attachment style, no contact
- 0:11feels like emotional torture. You check your phone
- 0:15obsessively. You replay old messages.
- 0:19You stalk your ex's social media.
- 0:22You physically ache for a reply and worst of all you feel weak
- 0:27for struggling when everyone else just says move on.
- 0:32Well, today I'm going to explain why this is so hard for you and
- 0:35how to get through it so that you have an easier time staying
- 0:39and no contact, which means that you'll have a better chance of
- 0:42getting your ex back. But first, hi, this is Lucia
- 0:45with the art of love. I'm a dating and relationship
- 0:48expert specializing in helping you get your ex back or to get
- 0:51over your ex. And welcome back my beautiful no
- 0:54contact army. Have you been a good little
- 0:57soldier? If you have, then you've stayed
- 0:59in no contact and you've also downloaded my app Silencio to
- 1:04help you stay in no contact. And the link to that is
- 1:07underneath every single video and podcast.
- 1:09And if you too would like to join our No Contact army, all
- 1:12you have to do is hit the subscribe button and the bell
- 1:15notification. And to read our manual, go to
- 1:18nocontactsecrets.com where you can read 2 free chapters before
- 1:23you purchase the book. OK, so why does no contact hit
- 1:28differently for people who are anxious?
- 1:31Well, imagine that your brain has a built in alarm system for
- 1:35connection. And for people with a secure
- 1:38attachment, that alarm is chill. It's like we'll hear from them
- 1:42when we hear from them. For people with a dismissive
- 1:46avoidant attachment style, they're busy doing their own
- 1:50things, so they're not even worried about when they're going
- 1:52to hear from someone. But for anxious attachers, that
- 1:57alarm is a full blown siren. Studies show that when you're
- 2:02separated from someone you're attached to, your brain
- 2:05activates the same regions as physical pain.
- 2:09That's why it feels like withdrawal, because on a
- 2:13neurological level it is. And the reason you find it
- 2:18difficult to do no contact with your ex when you have an anxious
- 2:23attachment style is because your brain has been hijacked.
- 2:26You have an abandonment wound and to you silence equals I'm
- 2:32losing them forever. So if your ex gives you any type
- 2:38of attention, even bread crumbs, your brain floods with dopamine,
- 2:43adrenaline and oxytocin. And then when they withdraw,
- 2:49cortisol spikes and this creates panic and craving.
- 2:53And then if they pop up again, your system rewards you with
- 2:58another huge neurochemical high. Now this is known as
- 3:03intermittent reinforcement or positive partial reinforcement,
- 3:08which I talked about in a video that I made a long time ago.
- 3:12And if I can find it, I will place the link in the upper
- 3:14right hand corner on YouTube. And it's also the reason why
- 3:17slot machines are so addictive, except that you're not addicted
- 3:21to a machine. You're addicted to your ex.
- 3:24And you can't stop pressing that button on that machine, so to
- 3:28speak. So every time you text them,
- 3:30call them, or attempt to reconnect, you're hoping to win
- 3:34the jackpot. You're hoping to get them back.
- 3:37However, similar to gambling, you get enough small wins to
- 3:41keep you hoping. But the biggest, the most
- 3:45dangerous part of this is that your brain interprets their
- 3:50intermittent reinforcement, their hot and cold, their
- 3:53unpredictability as interest. And you learn this pattern as a
- 3:58child when love was unpredictable and it often had
- 4:01to be earned. So it feels familiar and it
- 4:05feels safe because it reflects your earliest experiences with
- 4:08love. And so every time they respond,
- 4:12you think that this time it's going to be different, and this
- 4:14time they'll come back. But the fact is that addicts
- 4:18always think that the next hit is going to be the one that
- 4:23satisfies them, but it rarely is.
- 4:27So this isn't about willpower, it's about your nervous system
- 4:31being stuck in a loop that says if you just try harder, they'll
- 4:34come back. However, as usual, when it comes
- 4:38to matters of the heart, the best thing to do feels
- 4:41counterintuitive. Here's the paradox.
- 4:45The more you feed the anxiety with contact, the worse it gets.
- 4:51So every time you check their socials or send it just checking
- 4:55in text, you're telling your brain this person is still my
- 5:00lifeline. No contact is the only way to
- 5:05reset that wiring. It's like pressing pause on the
- 5:09addiction. The stress hormone cortisol
- 5:14drops after 30 days of no contact.
- 5:17That's why the 1st 30 days are the hardest.
- 5:21And by the way, before I continue, I just want to mention
- 5:24that 65% of people who listen to me are not subscribed.
- 5:28So if I could ask you a favor, it would be that if my videos
- 5:32have ever helped you in any way and you want to give something
- 5:35back, then just hit the subscribe button.
- 5:37And I promise that I'm going to continue to work hard to put out
- 5:41interesting and helpful videos so that you will have a better
- 5:43chance of getting your ex back. Thank you.
- 5:47So I know it feels like you're dying, but look at it this way.
- 5:53What if this pain is your system finally learning that it can
- 5:58survive without them? So how can you survive no
- 6:03contact whether you're on day one or day 30 or even beyond
- 6:07that? Well, you have to replace the
- 6:12HIT. And by that I mean your brain
- 6:15craves your X because it's used to the dopamine.
- 6:19That's why breakups are so brutal, because the dopamine is
- 6:22instantly cut off when they break up with you.
- 6:25You don't always necessarily want your X back, but you do
- 6:28want that dopamine. Give me that dopamine.
- 6:31OK, fine, you got it. So to stay strong, you're going
- 6:35to need healthy alternative sources of dopamine to rewire
- 6:40your brain away from your dependency on your X.
- 6:44So here is a list of science backed dopamine boosters to help
- 6:49you through your withdrawal. There's a lot of them so you're
- 6:54going to have to listen to this over and over again, but I will
- 6:56try to go as fast as possible. OK, so one is physical movement
- 7:00and that's the fastest dopamine fix.
- 7:03So exercise, even 10 minutes of dancing, jumping jacks, a brisk
- 7:07walk, cold showers. This triggers a 250% dopamine
- 7:14spike, which lasts for hours, according to a study by Doctor
- 7:18Andrew Huberman. This makes me want to go take a
- 7:20cold shower right now. Yoga or stretching.
- 7:25This releases tension and endorphins.
- 7:28Then we have the novelty and exploration category.
- 7:32So try a new hobby. Pottery, hiking, learning a
- 7:35language, anything with small wins.
- 7:38Go somewhere and you've never been before.
- 7:40A Cafe, a park, even a different grocery store.
- 7:42Go home a different way, listen to new music because novel
- 7:47sounds trigger dopamine. Then we have the social
- 7:52connection without your X category.
- 7:55And under that we have a phone, a friend, kind of like they have
- 7:58on who wants to be a millionaire.
- 8:00So find someone who's safe, who you can text instead of your X.
- 8:04And for my clients, it's usually me and I usually hear from them
- 8:08when they've been triggered by something that they saw or they
- 8:10heard and they want to reach out.
- 8:12So luckily they reach out to me instead most of the time, not
- 8:16all the time. And I talk them down off the
- 8:18ledge, so to speak. Or you could also pet an animal,
- 8:23dogs and cats. They increase oxytocin and
- 8:25dopamine. Next, we have the creative
- 8:28outlets. So write a rage letter and then
- 8:31burn it or delete it. And this is cathartic and
- 8:36releases the emotional charge around the breakup and around
- 8:39your feelings for them. Cook a fancy meal if you're into
- 8:42cooking. I'm not.
- 8:43But hey. So the process of chopping,
- 8:46smelling, tasting is rewarding in itself.
- 8:49Or draw paint or color. Even if you can't don't know
- 8:53what you're doing. Just you don't just do it.
- 8:56Then we have small wins and we start with tiny goals.
- 9:01So instead of 30 days no contact, start with an hour,
- 9:05then a day. Your brain needs proof that you
- 9:09can survive without your ex. And that's why people love the
- 9:12counter on my Silencio app because it shows how many days
- 9:18that they've been in no contact and they feel like they're
- 9:20making progress. I was actually surprised that
- 9:23people said, wow, this counter is so helpful.
- 9:25I'm like, it is. I mean, we knew it was going to
- 9:28be helpful. We didn't know it was going to
- 9:29be that helpful. But that's because I don't have
- 9:32anxious attachment. So then we have video games.
- 9:36So short term wins can help, but don't overdo it and start
- 9:41becoming addicted to video games.
- 9:42We don't want to trade one addiction for another.
- 9:45Or if you are going to trade one addiction for another, make it a
- 9:47good addiction, like working out.
- 9:50Next we have sensory pleasures. No, it's not what you think.
- 9:54There's dark, dark chocolate, there's essential oils and
- 9:59apparently citrus scents like orange boost dopamine.
- 10:04And then we have the weighted blanket that I keep hearing
- 10:07about. And that's because deep pressure
- 10:09calms the nervous system. Under the mindfulness and
- 10:13anticipation category. This is long term dopamine.
- 10:19You can plan a future trip and even if it's imaginary,
- 10:23anticipation is actually 50% of dopamine.
- 10:26There's gratitude journaling and that shifts the focus from lack
- 10:30to abundance. And of course, meditation, which
- 10:34I have talked about endlessly, and that's because it increases
- 10:39your dopamine receptors over time.
- 10:42So keep in mind that you're not depriving yourself of your ex.
- 10:46You're detoxing to make space for better dopamine sources.
- 10:51And you can even dopamine stack. So that means that you combine
- 10:55two or three of these things. So go for a walk, call a friend,
- 10:59and listen to new music. Hey, so this isn't about getting
- 11:04over your ex. It's about proving to your body
- 11:07that you're safe even when your ex is silent.
- 11:12And if you're listening to this, you're already doing the work.
- 11:16People with an anxious attachment style have a great
- 11:18capacity to love, but that love needs to be reciprocated, not
- 11:22negotiated. So stick with no contact and one
- 11:26day you'll realize this silence doesn't scare you anymore and
- 11:31that's when you'll know that you're healing.
- 11:33So now I want to hear from you. How long have you been in no
- 11:36contact and how is it going? And in the meantime, if you
- 11:39would like my help to be to get your ex back so that I can talk
- 11:45you down off the ledge, then you can contact me regarding
- 11:49coaching at the Art of love.net/coaching and we will
- 11:53send you the rates. They're not on the website.
- 11:56And if you don't hear back, it's because our e-mail probably
- 12:00ended up in your spam folder or you just didn't get it at all,
- 12:04especially if you're at Gmail. So then wait 24 hours and reach
- 12:08out again, hopefully with another e-mail.
- 12:10If you found this video helpful, please subscribe.
- 12:13If you're listening to this as a podcast and you want to help the

- 12:23enlightens.
