In 1992, Colorado became the testing ground for a nationwide strategy to roll back the rights of gay people. Once the state’s Amendment 2 passed, evangelical groups brought their winning playbook across the country. Coloradans fought back and cultivated an LGBTQ+ haven — which is now facing the same conservative tactics, this time targeting transgender people. This is a story about Colorado.
