- 0:00Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in today's episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:47that is based on this idea of feeling like you can't win or
- 0:53almost having too much humility to the point of feeling ashamed.
- 0:59And I was working with a client who grew up in a household where
- 1:03if they did very well, one of their parents got jealous.
- 1:07And if they failed, one of their parents would get very critical.
- 1:12And in hypnosis, we call that a double bind.
- 1:15Double binds are normally that whatever the outcome is, it's
- 1:17positive, but in this case it's a double bind, which whatever
- 1:21happens is negative and generally what tends to.
- 1:24Happen is that if that. Is your situation, particularly
- 1:27in childhood, where you can't just leave that?
- 1:29Environment you're. Forced to figure out strategies
- 1:33to mitigate consequences. And that would.
- 1:36Naturally be. Well, if you win, don't.
- 1:40Gloat about it too much so that that.
- 1:42Other parent. Doesn't get jealous.
- 1:44And. If you fail, be harder on
- 1:47yourself and therefore you've beaten someone to the punch so
- 1:51they feel like there's no point in them being harsh on you.
- 1:54So it comes from a logical place and may even have made sense in
- 1:58childhood, but in adulthood probably wouldn't.
- 2:02So this session was created in a form of inner child work, but
- 2:06also breaking that link. From the past.
- 2:10To the present so that they can actually get their wins when
- 2:15they compete and learn lessons if they compete and they lose
- 2:20and that. Win or learn.
- 2:22Philosophy I found very useful for me because I could recognize
- 2:27a lot of these qualities in this client, in myself, quite.
- 2:30Often I wouldn't. Attempt things.
- 2:32When I was. A child in case I lost because I
- 2:35linked losing with feeling ashamed and feeling of low self
- 2:40worth and not valuable, not good enough.
- 2:43And therefore what you tend to do is not try, but not trying is
- 2:46the ultimate failure because then you can't either win or get
- 2:50good. So there's a little bit going on
- 2:52here in this session. I think if you're listening to
- 2:55this, you would benefit most if you feel like you're holding
- 2:59back, if there's certain things that you don't even attempt in
- 3:02case you fail or lose, I think you'll get value.
- 3:05But equally, if you are afraid to celebrate your successes and
- 3:11there's almost. Too much humbleness.
- 3:13Too much humility. So you don't.
- 3:15Even enjoy your successes when you get them then that will also
- 3:18help you from this session. Of course it was created for an
- 3:22individual so some of the references might not be right
- 3:25for you. This.
- 3:26Particular client. Was thinking about chess and jiu
- 3:29jitsu AS2 examples where they would hold back for you.
- 3:32It's probably going to be something entirely different and
- 3:35not necessarily a. Sport.
- 3:37Or a game or a challenge It could be.
- 3:39Something else it. Could be your career where
- 3:40you're holding it back or a relationship.
- 3:42So just kind of think in your life what would.
- 3:46Be the breakthrough. That you would like if you were
- 3:48able to really enjoy your victories and really learn from
- 3:51your losses, and then you'll get more from this.
- 3:54But if you do like the idea of a bespoke session entirely created
- 3:58for you and your situation, have a little scan in the show notes.
- 4:01There's normally a more information button that you can
- 4:05press. You can have a look and in there
- 4:06you'll see a link to book a free consultation call and we can
- 4:09have a chat to see if I'm the right hypnotherapist to work
- 4:11with you. For now, though, you can find a
- 4:13quiet, comfortable place where you won't be.
- 4:15Disturbed, relax and. Enjoy the session.
- 4:46Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in a
- 4:55resourceful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 5:00And as you exhale, just allow your eyelids to feel relaxed and
- 5:09heavy, like any tension is draining away.
- 5:16As you breathe out, feel even more relaxed.
- 5:20But then breathe in a deeper breath of what feels like
- 5:27distilled, concentrated relaxation.
- 5:33Breathe. In the relaxation.
- 5:37And exhale any tension, and maybe you scan your body for any
- 5:46clues of tension. It's possible it's there around
- 5:51the forehead, the jaw, the neck, the shoulders.
- 6:01As you breathe in, just allow that tension to feel like it's
- 6:06melting away, and with your eyes closed, just imagine looking
- 6:16upwards to the top of your head, keeping your eyes closed but
- 6:21looking upwards. It was like you're looking
- 6:24through your brain. Feel that tension there in your
- 6:27eyes. And on the next outward breath,
- 6:31just relax those eyes feeling deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 6:37That's it. Drifting off, deeper and more
- 6:42relaxed. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 6:51relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 6:57the more your imagination awakens.
- 7:02And I wonder if you could imagine looking through a
- 7:10drawing book, the kind of book that when you were a child used
- 7:16to make pictures, maybe of pens or crayons or colourful paints.
- 7:27But imagine flipping through an old drawing book until you see a
- 7:33page of greenery, the green of the grass, trees with green
- 7:40leaves. Just imagine a picture,
- 7:45something that you could imagine that you would have created as a
- 7:49child, of a bright picnic blanket in lush green nature.
- 8:05Breathe in that relaxation, exhale any stress, and just
- 8:09imagine, just like a scene from a movie, just stepping into the
- 8:16picture. Step into your drawing and find
- 8:20yourself in a world of greenery. Green grass, trees with vivid
- 8:29bright green leaves, a bright blanket there on the floor.
- 8:37And I want you to imagine how good it would feel to lie on a
- 8:42picnic blanket, looking up at the trees, feeling a wonderful
- 8:50feeling of calm and relaxation. And if you could imagine how
- 8:58good it would feel to feel relaxed in nature, Fresh clean
- 9:03air, sunshine and the smell of grass and green leaves.
- 9:08Let me know by nodding your head.
- 9:12And just imagine there on that picnic blanket, you again close
- 9:17your eyes, no longer seeing the greenery but knowing it's there.
- 9:28You can still feel the sunshine on your skin, a gentle breeze.
- 9:35Just imagine how relaxed you feel with your eyes closed on
- 9:39that picnic blanket. And very soon I will count
- 9:44downwards from 12:50 and with each descending number you will
- 9:48feel deeper and deeper relaxed. So relaxed that you could
- 9:59imagine drifting off into a Daydream.
- 10:05So let's start with 1010. Just focusing on your eyelids,
- 10:11feeling your eyelids getting more and more relaxed, more
- 10:13heavy. And then nine forehead releases
- 10:20any tension, 8, loosening your jaw, breathing in that
- 10:28relaxation. And then on 7, just feeling like
- 10:32any tension around your neck and your shoulders is just
- 10:35loosening, melting away, enabling you to drift off into a
- 10:44dreamlike sleep. And then six, full, your arms
- 10:47feeling so limp, loose and heavy.
- 10:52That's it. Like your arms are like the
- 10:58limbs of a puppet with no strings.
- 11:04And then five. Imagine as you breathe in that
- 11:08distilled relaxation that all of your internal organs all relax
- 11:12at the same time. Your lungs relax, stomach
- 11:16relaxes, heart relaxes all the way down into your gut as five
- 11:22becomes 4. Just release any anxiety, any
- 11:27any feelings of niggling doubts, just release them now while
- 11:32simultaneously scanning your body for any echoes of shame.
- 11:39Stress is normally found in the jaw or the neck.
- 11:43Anxiety is normally found they're in the gut.
- 11:48But scan your body, for it feels like shame is for you.
- 11:54When you think you found it, let me know by nodding your head.
- 12:00And then three release that shame.
- 12:03Imagine it evaporating and then leaving your body in that next
- 12:09outward breath. And now focus on your legs.
- 12:14Imagine your legs just as limp, loose and heavy as your arms,
- 12:20finding it easier to breathe in and out even deeper and
- 12:23effortlessly, feeling more and more relaxed.
- 12:27And then two. Focus on your calves.
- 12:32Release any tension there and then, one all the way down to
- 12:39the tips of your toes as you imagine what it would feel like
- 12:45to drift off into a dreamlike sleep while lying on a blanket
- 12:50in nature, surrounded by greenery.
- 12:54But in this dream, imagine that you're going back in time at
- 12:58your current age to see a key moment of your childhood.
- 13:07You are you at your current age, going back in time as an
- 13:14observer. And I want you to observe a
- 13:19memory or a moment where you were punished if you celebrated
- 13:25and took pride in an achievement, but also you were
- 13:33criticized or shamed if you didn't do something right.
- 13:39I want you to go back to a moment where it didn't matter
- 13:44what happened. It felt that you were going to
- 13:48lose. You couldn't do anything right.
- 13:54You were damned if you did and damned if you didn't.
- 13:58And if you can find a memory like that, let me know by
- 14:01nodding your head. And there we go.
- 14:17And just be a witness. Like an invisible witness, like
- 14:23a ghost of the future, going back in time to witness
- 14:26something. And I want you to see you when
- 14:31you were younger, caught between that rock and a hard place, and
- 14:37notice that you did something intuitive.
- 14:44And maybe you realize then if you celebrated too much it would
- 14:51lead to something undesirable. So you downplayed your
- 14:55victories. Or maybe, maybe you were harder
- 15:05on yourself than other people were because you already know
- 15:09what they were going to say. I want you to get a sense then.
- 15:18A gift was given to you back then.
- 15:25A superpower was created over unlocking incredibly high
- 15:29standards, resourcefulness, focus, drive.
- 15:37But there was one downside. Shame echoed from that point
- 15:48beyond, and as you observe a moment of memory and you can see
- 15:57that younger version of you was frustrated, ashamed, or upset,
- 16:04just imagine what it would be like to comfort that younger
- 16:11version of you in the aftermath of that moment.
- 16:20Imagine going to that younger version of you when they're
- 16:23alone and telling them that they have nothing to be ashamed of,
- 16:35they deserve to celebrate their victories, and they can learn
- 16:41from their setbacks. I want you to say the words that
- 16:46you would have loved to have heard as a child.
- 16:51They're coming from you in the present, all the way to you in
- 16:55the past, when that younger version of you feels encouraged,
- 17:03understood, loved. Let me know by nodding your
- 17:09head. I want you to share something
- 17:29with that younger version of you.
- 17:31I want you to share how much you understand.
- 17:39Let me share a moment of memory that happened for both of you.
- 17:47Something only that both of you would know, and in doing so,
- 17:53feel that connection strengthen and tell this younger version of
- 18:00you that shame deprives them of learning.
- 18:13Shame deprives them of enthusiasm and energy and
- 18:21excitement and growth. Just imagine saying to that
- 18:31younger version of you. Then there are so many other
- 18:36emotions. Excitement, gratitude,
- 18:44curiosity, even frustration is so much more powerful than
- 18:50shame. Shame will keep you small, hold
- 18:57you back, whereas frustration can unlock motivation that leads
- 19:03to a breakthrough. Excitement can lead to
- 19:07inspiration, resilience, determination, and tenacity.
- 19:22I want you to make an evaluation of what emotion you would have
- 19:27most wanted to feel more of as a child.
- 19:33It would still have enabled you to strive and grow and learn.
- 19:42You don't have to define it, just get a sense of what it
- 19:45could be. And imagine handing the glowing
- 19:51ball of energy to that younger version of you, the very
- 19:56resource they needed back then. See them?
- 20:03Hold it, pull it up to their chest and absorb that energy and
- 20:07then switch places and feel that you are now that child absorbing
- 20:15that resource, feeling it have a ripple effect all the way down
- 20:23to the core of your identity. Something is shifting.
- 20:31But then recall a resource you had in abundance back then as a
- 20:36child that maybe you've lost connection with as an adult.
- 20:48Maybe it was playfulness, the joy of just doing.
- 20:56Maybe there was more of a curiosity, a sense of
- 21:01imagination, or maybe something else.
- 21:04But when you think of that thing you had in abundance back then,
- 21:08imagine giving that to your older self as a different
- 21:13colored ball of energy. Feel you handing it to your
- 21:17older self and then switch perspectives so you're now
- 21:21receiving that glowing ball of energy and place it in the exact
- 21:28location that shame used to be. And when it feels you've
- 21:33replaced shame with something so much more resourceful and
- 21:37useful, just let me know by nodding your head.
- 22:03I want you to get a sands. Then you're open to a change
- 22:10that the cord that connects the past to the present isn't always
- 22:16needed. I want you to imagine floating
- 22:21up over that memory and seeing a cord that's still connected from
- 22:29that moment, that moment in your life, all the way to the last
- 22:37time you felt shame in something competitive.
- 22:43And just see a thread or a cord or a rope connecting the past to
- 22:52that newer memory and realize that it's time to let that go.
- 23:01And just imagine holding a pair of golden scissors, perhaps even
- 23:09encrusted with jewels. And if you're ready to cut that
- 23:14cord from the past, the very thing that's been affecting your
- 23:19ability to enjoy competing in sports and games, let me know by
- 23:29nodding your head. And then cut that cord and
- 23:34realise that you're no longer tethered to your past.
- 23:41You can learn from it, appreciate it, extract all the
- 23:46wisdom. But the emotional cord has now
- 23:49been cut. And in doing so, feel that you
- 23:55are now liberated to enjoy so many different emotions that
- 24:01would be more useful than shame and false humility.
- 24:10What's humility for one person is a sense of feeling ashamed
- 24:13for another. And you can be humble while
- 24:18still being immensely proud of a victory.
- 24:23So let's go forward in time and imagine yourself in some form of
- 24:32competition, you versus one other person.
- 24:35But this time see that your mannerisms are different.
- 24:39See yourself focused, resourceful, determined to win.
- 24:48There's still the observer, but now see you in your future where
- 24:51something has changed. See different scenarios.
- 24:57See yourself winning and celebrating.
- 25:03See yourself losing and looking curious, intrigued or perhaps
- 25:12even grateful. Grateful for having the ability
- 25:18to play or the lessons you've learnt.
- 25:26And if you could imagine the future as you would want it to
- 25:28be, let me know by nodding your head and then step into that
- 25:33future version of you and just check that it's there.
- 25:43First of all, imagine winning something important to you and
- 25:48feeling that you don't have to downplay anything.
- 25:53Feel that you can celebrate, but commiserate your opponent if you
- 25:58need to. But no downplaying.
- 26:02You own that victory and then imagine a situation where you
- 26:09lose but no shame. The shame has been replaced with
- 26:16something much more useful, something that enables you to be
- 26:23inspired to try again, but even better rather than avoid.
- 26:30And if you could find that emotion, let me know.
- 26:32By nodding your head and feel like you are sowing a seed in
- 26:39your mind that will create a powerful self fulfilling
- 26:44prophecy. You are priming your mind to
- 26:49either win or learn. You are unleashing resourceful
- 26:56emotions that enable. You to be.
- 27:01Able to grow, connect and learn faster than ever before,
- 27:07enriching the quality of your life in infinite possible ways.
- 27:16And as you hold that thought, feel like you're returning back
- 27:19to a picnic blanket in nature surrounded by greenery, and
- 27:25imagine waking up from a dreamlike sleep, walking around
- 27:33that nature surrounded by green grass and green leaves, and
- 27:38realizing that all of this is just a picture in a book.
- 27:45Turn the realistic grass into drawings of blades of grass, and
- 27:51then step backwards through the picture, feeling like you're
- 27:56drifting towards the here and now.
- 28:01Take a deep breath in through your nose and down through your
- 28:06nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle.
- 28:09Your toes. Start to calibrate with the here
- 28:11and the now there's very soon. I count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 28:16awaken you. You will awaken feeling
- 28:19resourceful, calm and confident. Unleashing a new level of
- 28:26inspiration and desire to play, to compete, to win or to lose,
- 28:36gracefully extracting all the wisdom possible.
- 28:42Starting to count 123 Waking up 456.
- 28:48More alert 7-8 Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910.
- 28:53Wide awake, Wide awake. Wide awake.
