- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, right.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the built-girl podcast where hosts Tim Lines joined in studio today by Randy Anxon.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: So dude, how are we doing today?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're wrapping up the seventh habit of the seven habits series of the seven habits of winning gyms.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, just to recap, we've been the last six episodes we've talked about.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: the seven things that winning gyms do, the habits, if you will, and how, when you follow these things, you're nearly guaranteed to win.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: And that's all we want for you guys.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: We want you guys to win the game.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: So let's recap these four, these six, and then we'll get into the seven.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: So have it number one.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: Winning gyms master the main thing.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about this story about the the Boston market.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about how gyms that have subpar a product like to supplement it with other things.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: And we really believe that you should master that be the best in class at the one thing.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Once that one thing is the best you believe it can be and they kind of move on and add things.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Second, habit was choose visibility.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, gone to the days of the the coolness factor of being in the back of a warehouse with no air conditioning and a roll-up door, clients want convenience and anything that you can do to make it more convenient versus less convenient is the right move, right?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Make it easy for people to do business with you.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, habit number three is keep the growth engine running.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: This is your marketing engineer acquisition engine making sure that hey, you know what, even
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: but that momentum to get the momentum back after turning something off over a long period of time it's very, very difficult.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: Number five, seek the competitive edge.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about squeezing every amount of each opportunity, whether or not it's new technology or AI or getting into the next thing.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: or networking and going to an event and going to the happy hours and talking to jim owners and just networking and general seeking the competitive edge number six obsess over the scoreboard.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: This should go without saying you got to know your numbers all big time
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: You got to know your numbers, you got to take, you got to like make your business a competition.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a sport, right?
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: In the scoreboard, is your numbers?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe you're not competing against Guy Cross Street, but maybe you're competing with your numbers from the last month or last year.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: You got to always know your numbers and what you're striving to get cross and further and better.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: Habit number seven.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: This is what, you know, there's a concept called the Big Domino.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: And the big domino concept is like, what is that big domino that you knock down and makes all of the rest of the things in your life easier, your business easier, or even not necessary?
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where habits seven comes in.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: Habit seven is winning gyms around themselves with high performers.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: Whether that's high performers in their team or high performers as other gym owners,
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: This is the thing that once you experience surrounding yourself with like-minded driven individuals, again, this could be other gym owners for sure.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: You'll notice real quick how everything becomes clear.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Everything's easier.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is the big domino.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: So winning gems do this, winning gems find themselves and put themselves into coaching groups in masterminds or networking and surround themselves with high performers on their team and things become easier.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: I challenge everybody to join a mastermind or a coaching program, whether or not that's ours or not, you need to put yourself around big thinkers.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: And you'll find that the longer you're in business, you'll realize, like, hey, you know what, I've kind of outgrown this circle of influence, this circle of friends or the circle of other businesses that you surround yourself with, you outgrow it.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: And you should outgrow it.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting because there's mastermind groups all over this fitness industry.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of them get to a certain point,
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: the gyms inside of that and they just stop growing.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I know there's a lot of loyalty out there and I get that, you know, what somebody got you to this spot and they helped you get to a certain point.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: But sometimes you need to get out of that group to grow again.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the thing that happens a lot of times in our ironing or circles where we get gym owners coming from other groups.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: and they were the top dog and they're like, hey, you know what?
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the one teaching everybody.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the one that's kind of like, you know, everybody's coming to for support and help.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: I need some support and help sometimes.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: And there's really nobody in the script that can really help me have seen or are doing better than me.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I need to find a new group and they come into the iron circle where there's some studs in here, right?
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Studs and studs and studs.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it challenges the gym owners coming in.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: It makes them uncomfortable sometimes.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's exactly it.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: The growth occurs and they explode and they had record months and record years of, you know, they've been in business for 10 or 15 years, never got past a certain point, joined the iron circle, explode out of that, right, hit record months and years.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: And the same is true for us at profit, we join Masterminds because we need to be coached and pushed and made uncomfortable and need new ideas, and that's really where winning gyms find the advantage.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: Is they surround themselves now?
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: At the team level, this is more, this is as true there as well.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: The next statement has a great quote.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: I put it up on stage.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: It says mediocre people cannot stand high achievers and high achievers cannot stand mediocre people.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: If from his perspective on the football field, it's very clear if you have ever played sports, you know this to be true.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: There's always that guy that's, you know, slacken in the back.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: And the coach gets on him and then he makes the whole team do it over again, because it's a team game.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: And if you got one guy that's slacken, you know, the coach makes everybody run gassers or run the drill again or get back on the line.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: And all these things happen, you get pissed, especially the one that you, if you're out in front.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I set it on stage, I said, if you're in this audience and you're in your gym and you can't stand the guy that's you're working for because they're always hustling, going and things, it's, well, guess what, you're the medial, your person, you're the medial, your person.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: so you need to put yourself.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: I just saw a video literally this week of a basketball team that was tied together.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the coach was pissed because the performance started to slip, right?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: So we had him doing line drills, running the court, and he tied him all, like, I mean, he did a big loop, and then like, you
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: twisted it between each player so they were just they were stuck in his one sure and he had him doing line drills and the whole premise there was you know you're only as good as your weakest link type of thing and it for you know in competitive sports right like that's it's easy to see the guy who's who's slacken and not put in the effort and football big deal man like that guy that's the last off the line is the one that's getting
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that whole opens up in the quarterbacks getting sacked, things like that.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: And you need the whole team operating at the highest level.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's funny if you watch sports close enough, especially football in that guy breaks free and gets tackled right after he gets through the linebackers.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's usually one miss block, one miss guy that didn't get to his block because he slacked is the reason that in score.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's funny is every play in football is design
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: every single one right every see you know everybody's blocked and everybody's there right it's just athlete versus athlete so who athlete who and who slacked and who mr. block and who who outpowered the other guy is the reason that not every play is a touchdown right it's just interesting to kind of look at it but yeah I mean at the end of the day gym owners if you want to win this is the hack this is the secret of all the secrets
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: Surround yourself a light-minded driven gym owners.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and I think the biggest thing too is that we talk about the island of entrepreneurship.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: All right, you open up a business, you're doing the thing, you're, you kind of feel secluded.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: You don't, maybe you don't know where that network lives or who to go reach out to and things like that.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's why we talk about coaching programs and masterminds because that's what...
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: that's exactly what they are and you know like Tim said he highly recommend you join a program or a mastermind because that's how you literally put yourself right in alignment with high performers and the thing is too you know you were talking about like whether it be the networking you know problem solutions like those groups source solutions for you help you source solutions quickly but
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: before even all of that, you can sit in a room and just absorb success in a way, right?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, it's like the proximity leads to, and I think most of that is, it starts to change what you think.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: It starts to change your beliefs of what's possible.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know, how many times have we had somebody who's been a 20-year veteran of the industry that,
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know, maybe they dabbled those couple of groups and things like that over the years, but never really like found a home or like was consistent with that.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then also, and they do they put themselves around other individuals and it's like, oh my, what this is what I've been missing.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: And we hear it all the time.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: I wish I did this sooner.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: And the results show for themselves.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the biggest thing is it all you have to do is step into that room.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: When opportunity opens, it's, you know, presents itself.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: You walk through that door.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: the results are, whether or not you take all of the action or some of them or again, like even just being there, that once you start changing those belief systems, it changes the way you look at your business and the results happen.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the really to take away point is what becomes
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: the norm.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: What is normal?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like what revenue number is normal?
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: In an iron circle, I mean, I think 70,000 is pretty normal in that group a month.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: In recurring revenue, you know, in 800, 700 to a million dollar single location, Jim is pretty normal.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like such a huge outlier that it's impossible to get to the majority of the
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: And they're always striving for more and it's interesting because in this industry we've talked about averages and what's normal and what's normal is about $25,000 a month.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the status quo and we've got to sing in the iron circles that we're unsatisfied with the status quo and it's only up to you, Jim owners, that whether or not you're going
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: You can take it easy and make 25 grand.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: You could, comfort equals complacency in my book.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: You can be comfortable or decide you want more.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're going to spend the next 10 years of your life doing something, you might as well make it worth it.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: So that's really the point to the message.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: is not to be comfortable, be unsatisfied with a status quo.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: Understand that where you're at in today's day and age, whatever your gym's at, whether it's 35, 50, 60, that there's always a more.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's always somebody doing better and that you could do better.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: And what's cool about, at least I or circle at least, I don't know about the other groups, it's an open book in there.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's,
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: mission is to help everybody else.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: And so there's no secrets.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: There's no like, I'm doing the secret thing.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not going to share it with anybody.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's like, here's what I'm doing it.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: I want to do it.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: Go do it.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: Go do it.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to, we're all going to be doing it.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and it's super cool because it's usually a tweak here, a tweak there.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what's funny about these, um, these veteran Jim owners that come over 15 years in.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, we get behind the curtain.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: We start looking at it.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well, why are you doing this?
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: This and this?
- 12:42[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, I didn't think about it that way.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: Let me, let me adjust and all the sudden they explode.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whatever it is, it could be marketing.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: It could be pricing.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: It could be the mission.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: It could be your team development.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: It could be all of those things or a combination.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so here's the ticket guys.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: We share with you the seven habits.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: there's other things you can do obviously but these these are the court these I sat and thought about all these for a long time when it was doing this
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: If you did these seven things and you've focused like these are habits, these aren't just like a marketing.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: This is not like running meta ad or running a challenge.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's not what these to habits are like, the way of life.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's a belief system, ethos.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, squeeze out the competitive edge, surround yourself a light-minded driven individuals, make your product the best it can be.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: Those are just, these are habits, right?
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: If you follow these guys, I guarantee you will win.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: And if you follow these and you came back to me and say, hey, Tim, I followed all those to the T and I did it win.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you 100 grand.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever it is.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: We probably find a couple of things we could have done better, right?
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's just that simple.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Seven things.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: Can you guys do seven things and just focus on these seven things?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: And like I said before, there's always one big domino.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: And the seventh habit is the big domino.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: When you surround yourself with the light money driven individuals that the gym owners are unsatisfied with status quo, understand what is truly possible.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Your belief system changes what is normal becomes astronomical to what you believed it was like two years prior, like, oh my gosh.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then that becomes normal.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're pushing again and you're pushing again.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's how you get ahead.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's how you win.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: You guys have any interest in the iron circle.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put a link in the show note somewhere.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: You guys could check it out.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: Iron circle.net.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're always looking to push and bring the best in the business in here or constantly recruiting for that group.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we want the best Jim owners in there.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: We want the best.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, we got to retreat coming up.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: It may be passed by the time this one comes out.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: It will share the all those details after that event.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's insane.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's insane.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's insane.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, can't wait to share everybody the video.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: So go back and review these habits, guys.
