- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's. Adam here.
- 0:42And in today's episode of The Hypnotist, you'll be listening
- 0:46to a hypnosis session designed to change how you feel about
- 0:50alcohol. And a lot of people at this time
- 0:53of year were doing things like Dry January or they've set
- 0:57resolutions to reduce the amount of alcohol that they consume.
- 1:01All of which I think is very, very useful and empowering if
- 1:05you want to have better health and not be dependent or feel a
- 1:11compulsion towards alcohol. This particular client that I
- 1:15was working with could remember in their past a great
- 1:21relationship with alcohol and they had certain things they
- 1:24would always drink in moderation.
- 1:26They had this rule that they would never drink more than
- 1:28three in anyone you know. Kind of sitting.
- 1:33They would also have this element of not drinking alone.
- 1:38It was always a social or celebratory kind of thing.
- 1:41So they had some really good healthy boundaries so that when
- 1:45they did drink, it didn't become a problem.
- 1:47But throughout COVID, that relationship changed.
- 1:51They had more drinking at home because they couldn't drink out
- 1:56of the house. And they went through some tough
- 1:59moments in their life, such as bereavements and things like
- 2:02that, which led alcohol to be a crutch.
- 2:06It was a coping mechanism. So they wanted to do 2 key
- 2:10things. One have no real craving or
- 2:15desire for alcohol, but if they were to drink it with this take
- 2:19it or leave it approach that they would, you know, have this
- 2:24element of drinking in moderation or, you know,
- 2:27limiting it to three. But fundamentally what they
- 2:30wanted to do is all the memories that were good memories that
- 2:34involved alcohol. They wanted to not consider them
- 2:37good because of the alcohol, but good despite the alcohol.
- 2:42And there was a couple of movie references that kind of popped
- 2:47into my head. One came from the client, which
- 2:49was they made a reference to the children's movie Frozen, where
- 2:54the sister has a memory of her sister having magic just erased
- 2:58from her memory. And there's also a very good
- 3:00movie called Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
- 3:05It's one of the few non comedic memories featuring Jim Carrey
- 3:10and I think Kate Winslet in that as well.
- 3:12And the premise is that you know all of your memories of an ex
- 3:16disappear. And I think.
- 3:19In terms of metaphors, that's a great metaphor.
- 3:22So you're actually going to hear this, that actually the memories
- 3:26of alcohol suddenly change, that the alcohol references become
- 3:31less significant, or it's what's called a reframe that the
- 3:35enjoyment is considered despite the alcohol.
- 3:39And a lot of people will have references either with
- 3:42themselves or people they know that actually alcohol can spoil
- 3:46amazing moments. So that reframe has a lot of
- 3:50credibility at its. At its.
- 3:52Core, if you would like to change your relationship with
- 3:55alcohol, you might find this session helpful.
- 3:58I've also done lots of other ones on alcohol as well.
- 4:03Probably worth sharing this as well.
- 4:05The six years ago when I turned 40, that was the year that I
- 4:09decided I didn't want to have alcohol in my life going
- 4:13forward. So I'm about six, 6 1/2 years
- 4:16alcohol free because I made the evaluation that alcohol at that
- 4:21point in my life was giving more, was taking more than it
- 4:24was giving. And I think I made the
- 4:25evaluation in my 20s that it was giving more than it was taking,
- 4:28but that changed as it as it tends to do.
- 4:32So if you feel that working with me may be helpful for you to
- 4:37change your relationship with alcohol, there will be a link in
- 4:40the show notes where you can schedule that free consultation
- 4:42call on Zoom. For now, though, this session
- 4:44might be all that you need. So find a quiet, comfortable
- 4:48place where you won't be. Disturbed, relax and enjoy the
- 4:52session. Take a deep breath in.
- 6:09As you breathe in, breathing in slow, calm, relaxing breath, and
- 6:18as you exhale, just allow your eyelids to close, and as they
- 6:24close, feel a release, perhaps of tension, maybe stress, and
- 6:33maybe worries. Feel it leave your body in your
- 6:38outward breath, and then breathe in an even deeper feeling of
- 6:44resourceful relaxation. With each breath, feel yourself
- 6:57sinking deeper into calmness. Maybe you imagine a warm wave of
- 7:06relaxation starting at the top of your head, going down your
- 7:11face, releasing any tension in your eyelids, jaw, neck and
- 7:18shoulders. Feel your body getting deeper
- 7:22and deeper, relaxed. Imagine how good it would feel
- 7:29to feel like you're floating in a hot spring full of healthy
- 7:38minerals, soothing and healing your body, rejuvenating your
- 7:44body, but feel it supporting your body.
- 7:49Your arms and legs can feel limp and loose, yet still supported,
- 7:57enabling you to feel even deeper, relaxed.
- 8:05There's been places, public places, you felt so tired or
- 8:11relaxed you just drifted off into a Daydream, maybe even a
- 8:18nap, and activate that level of relaxation.
- 8:24Now feel that wave of relaxation going down your body, into your
- 8:34chest, even your internal organs down into your gut.
- 8:40Notice how your breathing just is longer and deeper, but almost
- 8:45happening by itself. There's nothing you need to do,
- 8:50you can just observe as you breathe in and breathe out
- 8:54deeper, taking you more and more relaxed.
- 9:05And just imagine this hot spring of relaxation maybe is out in
- 9:13nature, maybe under the sunshine, blue skies, and just
- 9:20feel a sense of complete calm and peace.
- 9:30That's it. I want you to imagine this pool
- 9:38of relaxation is a place conducive to reawakening and
- 9:47rekindling the very best version of you.
- 9:56And as you imagine they're bathing in that hot spring, just
- 10:00imagine a giant floating screen, almost like a projector screen
- 10:08hovering in front of you, just like it's your own private
- 10:14showing. But this isn't showing you a
- 10:19movie. This hovering screen starts to
- 10:26display moments from your life. Moments of fun, celebration,
- 10:32connection, important key moments.
- 10:39And maybe some of these moments had alcohol involved in some
- 10:44way. It was consumed, it was there,
- 10:46it was present. And I wonder if you can see
- 10:51these memories coming up, maybe for a few seconds than going
- 10:56away. But when they appear, think of
- 11:02them as clear, vibrant images. But notice something as you
- 11:12observe these moments of joy, happiness, connection, Feel a
- 11:19deep realization that the true joy of these moments didn't come
- 11:28from alcohol. It came from the people, the
- 11:33laughter, the connection, the situations.
- 11:37In fact, these moments were special not because of the
- 11:43alcohol, but despite the alcohol.
- 11:49Alcohol could have ruined these moments and yet it didn't.
- 11:54And that's because of you and the connections and your
- 12:01character, your values and your personality.
- 12:09You are the common denominator. In order to have moments of
- 12:17connection, it requires you. In order to have moments of fun
- 12:23and laughter, it requires you. You are the missing ingredient.
- 12:29It was never alcohol. I want you to get a sense.
- 12:37Then sometimes we make false associations.
- 12:47Maybe you can recall a time when you picked up a dog lead just to
- 12:52move it somewhere new. The dog interpreted the sound of
- 12:57the dog leash as a sign to go for a walk.
- 13:03And what you call these false positives, false associations.
- 13:10And as you start to see those memories of the past realized,
- 13:13then just because alcohol was present doesn't mean that was
- 13:22the influential variable. In fact, allow the content on
- 13:34that screen in your mind's eye to shift.
- 13:39Start to notice is that whatever alcohol was in those memories,
- 13:45wine, beer, shots, they start to fade, becoming transparent as
- 13:57though they were never there. But the smells, the laughter,
- 14:04the connection, the vibrancy, the wonderful moments all remain
- 14:13vivid. And maybe if alcohol was being
- 14:21consumed, it's now water or soft drinks.
- 14:27Or maybe it's just the alcohol connected to you.
- 14:32Other people are fine to drink, but yours disappears and feel.
- 14:42You're not changing the past feel, you're seeing the past as
- 14:50it really was, powerful, joyful and complete without any need
- 14:59for alcohol. If your mind starts to feel that
- 15:04that is just the truth of all those moments, let me know by
- 15:08nodding your head. And maybe you could imagine a
- 15:15gentle golden light, perhaps even sunshine, descending onto
- 15:22the screen and the light begins to absorb any emotional ties,
- 15:30any beliefs or any habits that connected you to alcohol.
- 15:38The golden light, the sunshine, is melting away those thoughts
- 15:42and ideas that were never true. It dissolves the thought that
- 15:49alcohol was ever needed for fun, for connection, or for coping.
- 16:02Think of the times of the past, maybe, where you saw someone
- 16:06clearly depressed drinking by themselves in a bar.
- 16:15If alcohol was a solution to the problem, they wouldn't remain
- 16:23depressed, They wouldn't keep returning.
- 16:28Alcohol was never the solution. It was a crutch.
- 16:34A crutch that didn't lead to healing.
- 16:39A crutch that led to dependency. I want you to get a sense that
- 16:48all of those experienced, perhaps serving alcohol to other
- 16:51people, gives you a unique perspective.
- 16:59You were completely sober in the moment.
- 17:02They weren't. Recall memories of arguments,
- 17:08aggression, pettiness, sadness that were caused by the alcohol
- 17:16or at least amplified by it. Get a sense then.
- 17:23Alcohol quite often is like A2 faced friend smiling in front of
- 17:32you and then being maliciously gossipy behind your back.
- 17:38Promises you good things, but causes pain and sadness, and
- 17:47maybe some of those memories start to transform.
- 17:54Some of those moments that involved alcohol feel that
- 18:00they're being enhanced when alcohol wasn't there, and feel
- 18:06neutral when alcohol is. Or perhaps worse, feel that
- 18:17alcohol is becoming irrelevant, insignificant, like a blurry
- 18:29object in the background of a photo.
- 18:38And now allow this screen to show you in the future.
- 18:44Tomorrow is the future. A month from now is the future.
- 18:48A year from now is the future. See yourself being without any
- 18:57desire for alcohol. See that you're smiling just as
- 19:05much, laughing just as much, without needing or wanting
- 19:14alcohol, and you're reminded, perhaps of a version of you
- 19:22from. The past.
- 19:26A version of you that naturally had control over alcohol.
- 19:33See that future version of you either not wanting it or if you
- 19:37are consuming it, doing so with moderation?
- 19:45Feel like a truth that you believed in the past is becoming
- 19:51true again. You don't need to drink, but if
- 19:55drinking is to be, then no more than three feeling that that
- 20:04inoculates you from overdoing it, as you have a deep
- 20:11realization that nothing good happens when you overdo alcohol.
- 20:27See yourself having fun, times without drinking, social
- 20:36moments, moments of deep connection, moments of
- 20:40celebration, but even see yourself coping with difficult
- 20:45times and just alcohol is not wanted or needed.
- 20:55See yourself on that screen with a deep sense that you have calm
- 21:02immunity to any peer pressure. Some people may be triggered to
- 21:12start thinking about their relationship with alcohol as
- 21:15they see you change yours. They have a vested interest in
- 21:22keeping you where they are, but see yourself immune to any
- 21:27pressure, any tactics. They may buy you a drink like
- 21:33they've forgotten that you're not drinking.
- 21:38See yourself that no matter what approach is used, verbal,
- 21:45behavioural, it doesn't work with you.
- 21:48In fact, it provokes the opposite reaction.
- 21:54The harder people try to get you to drink, the less you want it.
- 22:04See yourself in social situations, radiating
- 22:08confidence, not being neutral, but being more confident than
- 22:13when you had a drink in your hand.
- 22:19Alcohol becomes irrelevant because you can do all the
- 22:26things that you used to think alcohol was giving you without
- 22:30needing it. You can feel relaxed, you can
- 22:34feel calm, you can feel playful and confident without needing or
- 22:41wanting alcohol. Feel that your mind is just
- 22:52taking the outdated belief that alcohol is needed for fun and
- 22:57put it in the recycle bin of your mind.
- 23:02It's not needed anymore. It's not true.
- 23:04It never was. The desire for alcohol is fading
- 23:13like a distant memory, leaving you free and light, as if the
- 23:22weight of that desire never existed.
- 23:29And step into your truth that you can live your life based on
- 23:38your rules, your standards, your values, with no need to justify
- 23:45or explain your choices. You simply stand firm, strong
- 23:51and unshakeable. And if you do drink, you will do
- 23:58it on your terms, nobody else's. And if you do choose to drink,
- 24:12you will have a sense that it feels completely natural to stop
- 24:17at 3:00 or even before, as if your body and mind just knows
- 24:24when to pause with a sense of certainty.
- 24:30Certain things don't need willpower.
- 24:38I want you to get a sense that sometimes your body just knows
- 24:44you've had that moment where you slipped or about to fall and
- 24:52your body knew exactly where to put your foot to stop you
- 24:55falling. Your body knows how to keep you
- 24:59safe and feel that it will now do that.
- 25:05When it comes to alcohol, you simply feel better and more
- 25:11empowered without it. And when you to get a sense that
- 25:20sometimes changing something for a month just gives you a clue
- 25:27that I quite like this. I don't have to stop at the end
- 25:34of the month. I can continue treat a period of
- 25:41not drinking at all, not as a challenge, but as a test drive.
- 25:47You're testing out a lifestyle to see just how well it suits
- 25:52you. So let's freeze that belief that
- 26:02alcohol is needed for fun. See it as an image, perhaps on a
- 26:13pane of ice, like a pane of glass, and then shatter it into
- 26:18a million pieces, freeing you completely.
- 26:23Alcohol isn't needed for fun, confidence, or coping.
- 26:28Shatter those beliefs and perhaps you could imagine a
- 26:36future occasion where alcohol definitely will be there.
- 26:41But rather than seeing yourself, step into that moment as you
- 26:46feel an unwavering confidence in your choices, feeling no need or
- 26:54desire to drink, but knowing that you can if you want to.
- 26:59But don't be surprised if you don't even want to.
- 27:01And allow yourself to feel proud and energized by your ability to
- 27:11decide what is right for you. Because maybe alcohol was an
- 27:20impediment, a barrier to living your best life.
- 27:28What if it was holding you back? I want you to get a sense that
- 27:34you are free from at least one or two shackles that perhaps
- 27:39have been there for the last five years or so.
- 27:48Those shackles were weighing you down, encouraging you to do
- 27:53things that didn't even make sense.
- 27:56And you are free of those shackles now.
- 28:04See the floating screen disappear?
- 28:06Feel that as you leave that hot, relaxing spring, you can return
- 28:14to the present, feeling that memories of the past have
- 28:17changed. You've rekindled the optimal
- 28:22relationship with alcohol, but only on those occasions when you
- 28:27really want it. And that may be fewer in your
- 28:32future than it's been in your past.
- 28:35So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 28:40nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 28:43wiggle your toes. Connect fully into the here and
- 28:45now as I count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you, and you
- 28:49will awaken feeling liberated, a new lease of life making this
- 28:56year your best year ever. Starting to count. 123 Waking up
