Transcript
- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. And in this hypnosis session you
- 0:42can be listening to a hypnosis that is entirely based on
- 0:47changing the relationship with certain foods.
- 0:51And I was working with a young client that had ARFID, which
- 0:56effectively is a sensitivity or a reluctance to try new foods.
- 1:02Certain foods just felt daunting, uncomfortable,
- 1:06particularly in certain social situations where they felt
- 1:09judged. And this uses an element of
- 1:12parts negotiation therapy to work with that part that has a
- 1:16really good intention of trying to protect them.
- 1:18But in doing so, it made it feel like a very high stakes judge
- 1:23mental type of situation. But that was just a meaning they
- 1:27were giving to the actual process of evaluating new foods.
- 1:31And what this hypnosis session does is 2 key things.
- 1:33One is parts negotiation therapy to work with the part
- 1:36responsible for the protective part, but then also the second
- 1:40part, which is very judgmental and to create a low stakes
- 1:43environment where whatever happens, they win.
- 1:46So if they try foods and they don't like it, well then they
- 1:49know they don't like it. If they try foods and they're
- 1:51not quite sure yet, but then it's just an attempt and they're
- 1:54building up the reps for that. And if they try the food and
- 1:57they do like it, they've got more evidence that they're OK
- 2:00without food. So it uses the frame of
- 2:03discernment rather than this idea of failing and not being
- 2:08able to do something or being judged either by other people or
- 2:11by themself. So there's a bit going on here.
- 2:15If you or someone you know has a reluctance to try certain foods
- 2:22and that's making them feel anxious or self-conscious or
- 2:26just uneasy in certain situations, then they may
- 2:29benefit from this session. But just be aware that the
- 2:32specific suggestions are. Incredibly.
- 2:35Connected to the client that I was working with and not all of
- 2:38them are going to map across to someone new listening to that.
- 2:41So if you or someone that you know does like the idea of
- 2:45changing how they feel about foods, there will be a link in
- 2:49the show notes where you can actually schedule a free
- 2:51consultation. Call to have a chat with me and
- 2:53then we can exlore the idea of working together.
- 2:56For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place, the kind of
- 3:00lace where you're not going to be disturbed.
- 3:02Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and as you
- 3:40breathe out just release any feelings of worry, stress or
- 3:46tension. Dance in, breathing in
- 3:50relaxation, and as you exhale, just allow your eyelids to close
- 4:00and as they close to become aware of how much easier it
- 4:05becomes to focus on the sound of my voice.
- 4:14Breathing in relaxation and exhaling tension.
- 4:24That's it. As you breathe in, I want you to
- 4:29feel a sense of freedom, a sense of relaxation, a sense of
- 4:39empowerment that you're able to do the things you want to do.
- 4:51Breathing in that relaxation, exhaling that tension.
- 4:55Each breath takes you deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 5:08And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you become.
- 5:15And the more relaxed you become, the deeper you breathe.
- 5:20And as you breathe in and breathe out, just notice the
- 5:24simple things around you, the way your body rests, perhaps the
- 5:31rhythm of your breathing, and how without any effort, you can
- 5:39allow yourself to drift. And I want you to imagine the
- 5:47spotlight shining on you and just imagine you've got the
- 5:52control and dial down that spotlight, leaving you free to
- 5:58just relax. And as that spotlight of
- 6:06awareness softens, you may notice your thoughts beginning
- 6:12to slow down and a sense that for now, there's nothing to
- 6:19prove, no pressure, no judgement, leaving you free to
- 6:28just relax and feel that relaxation.
- 6:40Notice your breathing slowing down.
- 6:46And as your body relaxes, your imagination awakens.
- 6:51And I want you to imagine a garden where you feel
- 6:57comfortable and in that garden see a door and believe that that
- 7:04door leads to your own private cinema.
- 7:08And as I count, from 5:00 to 1:00, you will imagine opening
- 7:11the door, walking through the door into your very own private
- 7:15cinema, 5 putting your hand on the handle, 4 turning the
- 7:21handle, three pulling the door open, two walking through the
- 7:27door, and one closing the door behind you.
- 7:29And now stepping into that quiet private cinema, finding the most
- 7:38comfortable chair and seeing a big blank screen in front.
- 7:49And here in this place, I want you to notice that any feelings
- 7:53are being judged. That feeling of all eyes on you,
- 7:58that you're in the spotlight, is simply not here in this dark,
- 8:05quiet cinema where the lights are down low and you're the
- 8:12director, not the actor. And that means that you get to
- 8:17decide what plays on the screen, what story you tell yourself,
- 8:26and what role each part of you gets to play.
- 8:30And I want you to think about all the different thoughts
- 8:39you've had over the years. And I think somewhere inside
- 8:46there's a part of you that has been protecting you from
- 8:52embarrassment, shame, or being judged.
- 8:57And maybe that part thought that by keeping things small,
- 9:03predictable, limited, or controlled would keep you safe.
- 9:10And I want you to thank that part for doing its job all these
- 9:14years. It's been working hard trying to
- 9:18protect you like a guard who never gets to rest, always
- 9:26vigilant, always looking for things that could not end well.
- 9:31And it may have been doing too much, and that part's exhausted.
- 9:40But I want you to consider that what if that part in the way
- 9:45that it was trying to protect you was actually contributing to
- 9:51the very fear of judgement, embarrassment or shame that you
- 9:57were so keen to avoid? But there's another part of you.
- 10:06There's a part of you that desperately wants to feel free,
- 10:12to feel like you can live without this, the burden that
- 10:19you've been carrying, to just feel comfortable eating whenever
- 10:24you're hungry, no matter who else is around.
- 10:30And I want you to invite that part, that part that desires
- 10:35that future. The future of living with
- 10:38curiosity instead of that fear of judgement.
- 10:42Allow that part to step forward. Perhaps you could imagine what
- 10:53these parts would be like. Maybe the part that's trying to
- 10:57protect you from shame would be anxious, restless, on guard.
- 11:06And then there's that part that's more adventurous.
- 11:13Curious. But let's offer that protective
- 11:18part a new role. And I want you to imagine seeing
- 11:25yourself on a screen, perhaps the last time that you felt
- 11:32limited, restricted, worried about being judged.
- 11:40And just imagine that you can see that part nearby to you.
- 11:45And maybe it's telling you to be careful, to think too much.
- 11:59But I want you to offer that part a new role because how it
- 12:06can really help you from that freedom of feeling judged is to
- 12:16help you be more discerning. And you could be discerning
- 12:22about the food you eat, where you eat it, who you eat it with.
- 12:27And there is no obligation for you to eat any food.
- 12:36But I want this discerning part to look for opportunities.
- 12:43Opportunities for low steak shots to nothing, to experiment
- 12:53in a freeway without that judgement.
- 12:59I want you to imagine if you couldn't fail, if there were no
- 13:03judgement, what foods would you try then?
- 13:09How would you feel differently eating those foods that you feel
- 13:14comfortable at home in different environments?
- 13:21I want that part to accept a suggestion that when it comes to
- 13:26food, it's just a taste. No big deal, a shot to nothing.
- 13:39I want that part to believe then whatever happens, it's a win.
- 13:48If you don't like it, really don't like it, then it goes in
- 13:56your red zone and now you know you never need to try that thing
- 14:01again. And if you try it, but you're
- 14:09not sure yet whether it moves into your Green Zone, consider
- 14:15this doing an extra Rep. And the more experience you
- 14:21have, the more likely it will move into that Green Zone.
- 14:27And you can think of a food that you didn't like to begin with,
- 14:32but now you do and it feels comfortable.
- 14:36So whenever you try something, consider that a win because
- 14:41you're training your taste buds and if you do like it and you
- 14:51feel comfortable, it just moves into that Green Zone quicker.
- 14:56Now this isn't about win or lose, success or failure, doing
- 15:05it right or doing it wrong. It's about you being discerning
- 15:10and noticing how you feel about the food and not the judgement.
- 15:19I want you to consider that discernment.
- 15:22Making choices becomes your new protection.
- 15:28Not hiding, not avoiding, but choosing, exploring and
- 15:36wondering what it would be like if every outcome felt safe.
- 15:46Because if whatever happens, you win, or you learn, and when you
- 15:50learn you win, everything feels easier.
- 15:59And you might also notice that that spotlight you imagined
- 16:04before was never really shining on you as brightly as you
- 16:09thought. People are far too busy with
- 16:13their own lives, their own thoughts, their own worries.
- 16:19And I want you to feel that what you used to feel like judgement
- 16:24from other people was just echoes of your own self
- 16:29criticism. But now we're framing things
- 16:34that it's all those stakes, a shot to nothing.
- 16:40Whatever happens moves you forwards.
- 16:43There is no need for that self criticism.
- 16:47And don't be surprised if that voice of self criticism becomes
- 16:52more encouraging with this new role of discernment.
- 17:00You're not getting it right or wrong every time you do
- 17:03something. You're either training your
- 17:06taste buds, figuring out what you don't like, or feeling more
- 17:12and more comfortable based on the law of familiarity, to feel
- 17:21that volume of self criticism being turned all the way down.
- 17:26And I want you to discover something liberating, the
- 17:34ability to own your discernment, to laugh things off, that you
- 17:42treat everything as a shot to nothing.
- 17:47You can embrace trying when the pressure's off.
- 17:52And if you don't like it, you don't like it, and that's still
- 17:56a win. And I want you to see yourself
- 18:00on that large cinema screen. Pitch yourself in a comfortable
- 18:07environment, maybe your own home, at the dinner table,
- 18:12trying foods you've never tried before.
- 18:18But see the expression on your face that this is all a shot to
- 18:21nothing, That whatever happens, you're winning.
- 18:27See yourself smiling, relaxed and comfortable.
- 18:32See that the restlessness and discomfort is gone because it
- 18:38has a new meaning now. There is no success or failure.
- 18:46You can't lose. It's just you being discerning
- 18:54and figuring out what you like and what you don't.
- 18:56To see yourself picking up something new, trying it,
- 19:06smelling it. And whatever happens, you win.
- 19:11You can see that version of you with calm confidence of someone
- 19:15who is no longer under the spotlight.
- 19:20And I want you to see a family member looking at you and you
- 19:25smile at them while you try. That new foods doesn't bother
- 19:30you anymore. Because what if this is less
- 19:34about the food and more about what's happening in your head?
- 19:40And when we change the meaning, you change the feeling.
- 19:44And when the feeling changes, what was difficult before
- 19:48becomes easier. And then I want you to imagine
- 19:54something more challenging. See yourself in someone else's
- 19:59home. Or a restaurant, there's other
- 20:03people around that see yourself with that same calm, relaxed
- 20:08demeanour, and maybe see that you're choosing foods that are
- 20:15half from the Green Zone and half foods either that aren't
- 20:23quite comfortable, but you're going to eat them anyway.
- 20:30But I want you to see that version of you looking relaxed,
- 20:34comfortable, see that version of you immune from judgement.
- 20:41Because what is there to judge? You either like the food or you
- 20:47don't. And from this point onwards,
- 20:52you'll start to notice more and more often other people when
- 20:57they don't like food and it's no big deal.
- 21:04They don't frame it that they've lost.
- 21:07There's no judgement, there's no shame or embarrassment.
- 21:13And you might learn that other people have things that seem
- 21:17unusual to others. Certain people won't like
- 21:23certain flavours or sauces. Many people will remove certain
- 21:31things from a meal. Just put it to the side of their
- 21:33plate and it's no big deal. You may even remember seeing if
- 21:45plates arrive at a restaurant. Some people will take some food
- 21:49off their plate and put it on someone else's because they know
- 21:54what they like and they know what they don't like and what
- 21:59they may not like. Someone else Mel may love.
- 22:02And I want you to get a feeling that it's all those steaks.
- 22:08And when you can see that future version of you on the screen,
- 22:14looking relaxed and comfortable, trying new foods and whatever
- 22:18happens, you win. Just let me know about nodding
- 22:20your head and imagine stepping into that version of you in the
- 22:25screen and feeling what it would feel like to be in that busy
- 22:32restaurant, certain foods you're not quite sure on, and feel what
- 22:39it would feel like to be no big deal.
- 22:43That voice that was once judgmental or critical is now
- 22:46encouraging. Hey, try it, you've got nothing
- 22:52to lose. Try a bit and if you don't like
- 22:57it, don't have any more. And if you do like it, continue
- 23:02eating. And I want you to feel that when
- 23:06it feels like that, the spotlight isn't on you, it isn't
- 23:13on anyone. It's just people enjoying some
- 23:18food. And if you can feel what it
- 23:23feels like to be relaxed and comfortable in a situation that
- 23:29in the past would have created discomfort and restlessness, but
- 23:33you can feel relaxed and calm and imagine eating foods, even
- 23:40foods from that amber zone. Let me know about nodding your
- 23:43head. That's it.
- 23:46And I want you to get a feeling that you're just one or two
- 23:54occasions away from this becoming real.
- 23:59Because when you release that fear of judgement, when
- 24:03everything is a shot to nothing, when you can't get it wrong, the
- 24:09pressure is released. And don't be surprised if foods
- 24:13that were once challenging now become easy.
- 24:17Environments that felt daunting are no longer daunting.
- 24:23And what if, when you release that fear of judgement, that
- 24:28adventurous side of you wants to try different foods?
- 24:34Because the more foods you try, the more quickly you figure out
- 24:40the foods you like and the foods you don't.
- 24:43And everyone has foods they don't like.
- 24:49And as you breathe in that feeling of relaxation and calm,
- 24:54leave the screen and then leave the cinema, walk through the
- 24:58door, be back there in that garden and then feel like you
- 25:02can float all the way back to your present, to the here and
- 25:07the now. Feeling that that part was
- 25:11trying to protect you is now protecting you in a new way by
- 25:17helping you be calm, relaxed, Consider things as low stakes
- 25:23where everything is a shot to nothing.
- 25:30Very soon I will count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you and you
- 25:33will awaken with that part having a new role to help rather
- 25:38than hinder. Because it didn't know it was
- 25:41hindering before, it thought it was helping, but now it can help
- 25:47in ways that genuinely help. So take a deep breath in through
- 25:52your nose and out through your nose.
- 25:57Wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 25:58Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 26:04from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you. 123 waking up. 456 more
- 26:13alert 7-8 open your eyes open your eyes. 910 wide awake, wide
- 26:20awake, wide awake. Thank you so much for.
- 26:31Joining me on today's episode of The Hypnotist and if you've
