"The death of Lazarus did not lead to death", says St. Augustine, "but rather to the miracle which had to be accomplished to lead men to belief in Christ Jesus and avoidance of everlasting death. Our Lord gives here an indirect proof of His divinity, against those who deny that the Son is also God Himself" (Matins). This miracle announces the resurrection of Jesus.

Introit Psalm 18:15
