- 0:11Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Mindsets
- 0:14Podcast, episode 87. Charles, tell me what's up.
- 0:19We're honing in on the 100, aren't we?
- 0:21Cyber surely? What should we do for it?
- 0:24We've got to have a party, a mindset's party, the centurion.
- 0:27I want everybody that is listening right now to come up
- 0:30with a really good idea, and then next episode we're going to
- 0:33ask you for those. Ideas.
- 0:34Oh, that's such a good idea. And then you're going to tell
- 0:36us. And then we have some time to
- 0:37organize it. Exactly, we'll have I've already
- 0:40gone for us. I've.
- 0:41Already got an idea but I don't want to say it.
- 0:43Is it a bit mile? That's such a good idea.
- 0:46But no, I wasn't thinking that I was.
- 0:47I thought 100K ski egg. What between us or each?
- 0:51I reckon each. Why not?
- 0:52Yeah, go on then. So today we're going to kind of
- 0:57go off some of the news and we'll get to that very quickly.
- 1:00But we're going to talk about Formula One drivers and how they
- 1:03train. We took a a week off talking
- 1:05about how people train last week and we got a bit lost.
- 1:07We did. So we're back and this week
- 1:09we're doing something totally different.
- 1:10We haven't really gone down the motorsport route before and so
- 1:13hoping you guys are keen for that.
- 1:15This comes off a bit of success and might as well go straight
- 1:18into the two-minute news of this.
- 1:19You ready for that? Let's go do.
- 1:20You want to start us off or should I just carry on just.
- 1:22Carry it on, I've got the timer rolling.
- 1:24OK, so first of all, Kimi Antonelli, he won the Miami
- 1:27Grand Prix this weekend. That's three Grand Prix wins in
- 1:29a row for this crazy. Bear in mind this is second ever
- 1:32season in Formula One, so pretty mad.
- 1:34Another thing that happened though was there was a Sprint
- 1:37race beforehand. So if I go through the full list
- 1:39of results in the Sprint race, which obviously happens first,
- 1:42Landon Norris won followed by Oscar Piastry.
- 1:44Good weekend for McLaren. They seem to like doing well in
- 1:46Miami. Then followed by Leclerc.
- 1:48Now in the actual race after further loads of qualification
- 1:53we had, as I said, Antonetti won, Kimi Antonelli followed by
- 1:57Landon Norris followed by Oscar Piastry because that wasn't
- 2:00going to happen. Leclerc was going to finish
- 2:01third again, but he spun, had a bit of an accident, managed to
- 2:07hit barrier, kind of kept it rolling, but then got overtaken.
- 2:10So Oscar Piastry got on the podium and George Russell
- 2:12managed to sneak his way through for some extra points.
- 2:14Mercedes-Benz as well. There you go, MG, Sorry.
- 2:17I've I've got I've got something to come back on that, but I
- 2:20don't want to take up from the 2 minute news.
- 2:21So we'll sideline Leinster B Toulon in the European Investech
- 2:26European Champions Cup and then Bordeau B Bath this weekend.
- 2:30So it's going to be a Leinster versus to Lensa versus Bath,
- 2:36sorry, Leicester versus Bordeaux.
- 2:38We got there eventually final, which is going to be at the bow
- 2:41at the end of May. And then Nellie Corder, who he
- 2:43spoke about in last episode, I think on the ladies PGA, she's
- 2:48won again in Mexico. So she's having, she's having a
- 2:50hot season. Yeah, Hot St., which is exciting
- 2:52for her. One final thing to come into
- 2:54here is the High Rocks Cardiff. It was a great weekend to be
- 2:58called Charlie. If you wanted to look at the pro
- 3:02men's solo winner, that was Charlie Bottle.
- 3:04If you wanted to look at the pro women's solo, that was Charlie
- 3:07Sell. If you then go back to the pro
- 3:10men's double s, that was Charlie Bottrell and Jake Deardon.
- 3:13And then if you look at the women's pro double s, we had
- 3:16Charlie Sell and Lawrence Stockley taking the win there.
- 3:19So pretty good point scoring weekend for those all round
- 3:21doing really well. Those with the beady eyes will
- 3:23know that Charlie and Jake need to go and race somewhere else to
- 3:26qualify for the Elites next year.
- 3:28Talking of British teams that qualify, qualifying for the
- 3:31Elites pretty nicely so far, Olly Russell and Travis Owls,
- 3:34they won in Warsaw and so they've got 105 from that and
- 3:37they went over to Lisbon for a business trip and got it done.
- 3:39They're going to Helsinki this weekend to ultimately secure the
- 3:42bag. That's pretty much all news.
- 3:45I think that was actually like 2 seconds inside 2 minutes, then
- 3:48we smashed. That, yeah, we did very well.
- 3:49Nice. Well, we're going straight into
- 3:51the topic. Those of you that are
- 3:52immediately concerned about where's growing, my gear's gone.
- 3:54Don't worry, it's just coming later.
- 3:56We thought we would got holding the topic back too far, so we're
- 3:58going to swap it around this time.
- 3:59If you don't like it, let us know.
- 4:01We'll go back to it. Wait, can we put on pause for a
- 4:03second? Because the thing I wanted to
- 4:04say was, did you see that stat about Aston Martin and their
- 4:08performance over the weekend where in across all of
- 4:12qualifying they didn't go faster than like any of the Formula Two
- 4:18teams? No, I didn't see that.
- 4:20Something like that. I can't remember the actual
- 4:21specifics, but they're so slow that they're being out qualified
- 4:25by Formula Two cars. I also saw something last week.
- 4:29I mean that first of all, that's terrible.
- 4:32I saw something last week. Aston Martin have been testing a
- 4:35new car. Like completely new IT it.
- 4:38Looks like a Formula One car, but kind of a bit more boxed and
- 4:42I don't know if they're testing like a concept Formula One car,
- 4:46if they're testing like next season's car, but it was blacked
- 4:48out. It looked unreal.
- 4:50And it's I think the reason I don't think it is a genuine
- 4:53Formula One car is because out of V10 engine and everyone in
- 4:55the comments was saying how nice this sounds, Formula One should
- 4:58go back to using that. But it it was quick like quicker
- 5:02than Formula One cars currently winning races.
- 5:05So it's it's great that they're able to spend some time focusing
- 5:08on that, but they I think they've forgotten what they're.
- 5:09Supposed they're doing this season already.
- 5:11I'm not surprised. But yeah, so going into today's
- 5:15topic off the back of Kimmy Antoneli success, a lot of more
- 5:18people again are taking a bit more of an interest into what on
- 5:22earth goes on in the Formula One world.
- 5:23Drive to survive. I think it started like 6-7
- 5:26years ago, which made me feel quite old.
- 5:28That was really tough to head. Yeah.
- 5:30That brought a whole new wave of people's interests, which is
- 5:33really good for the sport. Somehow my girlfriend now
- 5:36watches Formula One with me. Weird, but with that, people pay
- 5:42much closer attention to the drivers lives.
- 5:44A lot of the drivers now have YouTube channels, they share
- 5:46more and more about their lives, but what they don't actually
- 5:48tend to share, because no one seems to be that interested
- 5:51apart from us, is the training plan.
- 5:54Now, unlike previous episodes where we would try and go and
- 5:57get Kimmy Antonelli's driving like what he does in a week,
- 6:02that's not necessarily what we'll be able to give.
- 6:03Especially because Kimmy is like 12 years old, so like he doesn't
- 6:07really have a well founded structure routine yet.
- 6:11Obviously Mercedes are building that around him right now and
- 6:14he's having great success with whatever they are doing.
- 6:16But their training is broken down very similarly to how like
- 6:23some of the Iron Man training we spoke about before is done in
- 6:27that they've got their gym sessions, that kind of thing,
- 6:29but then they've got cardio, then they've got specific
- 6:32training they need to do to be behind the wheel.
- 6:34So the first one we're going to talk about, which is different
- 6:37from most of the other sports, is neck training.
- 6:39There is a photo, I don't know if you've seen this, of Charles
- 6:42Leclerc going out with his fiance, No wife now.
- 6:46Yeah, yeah. Going out for dinner.
- 6:49And his neck is about as wide as her waist.
- 6:52God. Which is actually.
- 6:53Wide, Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good looking couple.
- 6:56Oh. It's a great looking couple.
- 6:58It's a cute as hell dog. As well.
- 6:59Yeah, they've got a nice. I'm not a big fan of small dogs,
- 7:01but that's a cute dog. So neck neck training has been
- 7:07widely kind of attached to driver training, but I don't
- 7:10think people really understand how important it is.
- 7:12If you want a bit of fun, go and watch a video of someone that
- 7:16hasn't done any driver training. Sit in with a like a race driver
- 7:21in one of the like Formula 2, Formula three cars.
- 7:25You'll see them go around a turn or even brake and their head
- 7:27just goes, they're stuck to the seat in front of them.
- 7:33And that's when you actually see in the same video, you see the
- 7:35same driver just like seeing like nothing's happening.
- 7:39So in Formula One cars, when they go round some of those high
- 7:42speed turns, they're experienced 5 to 6G, which that's five to
- 7:47six times your body weight is basically how to convert that.
- 7:51And corners aren't necessary like for a split second.
- 7:54They can go on for like 4 or 5 seconds if you're really pushing
- 7:57through them. So being able to withstand that
- 7:58it's not even necessarily about like just trying to fight it,
- 8:01it's making sure that your vision can stay completely and
- 8:04while you go through. It I think also like the you'll
- 8:07be able to go into far more detail than I would will with
- 8:10your engineering background. But imagine when you're going
- 8:13around the corner, the car is literally like on a set of
- 8:16rails, like a train that's. A quote from the town within.
- 8:18It's on the rails. Yeah, yeah, it's on rails.
- 8:20And so as a result, they can go round so fast because of the
- 8:23downforce that's being created by the Air Force in the car
- 8:26onto. So they go round so fast and
- 8:28that's what's creating like a fighter pilot, what's creating
- 8:31the G Force, which they then have to not only think about
- 8:35contending, but also drive a freaking race car at the same
- 8:39time, which is like, it's amazing.
- 8:41The the only way that I can really let anyone who's
- 8:43listening to the podcast right now understand what it feels
- 8:46like the way that the cars are designed very quickly.
- 8:49If you imagine a plane wing, the wings that you see on the
- 8:52Formula One cars are essentially just upside down versions.
- 8:54So if it can take a plane off, it shoves the car down.
- 8:57That's the downforce. However, what you also have
- 9:00underneath the car, and these were banned for a while, but
- 9:02they've come back, is you have a set of air paths and Airways
- 9:06under the car which suck the car down.
- 9:09So then you've got the sucking going on and you've got the
- 9:12pushing and the pushing. So then that's why there's so
- 9:14much impact when cars are following each other and getting
- 9:16slipstream and that sort of thing.
- 9:17But when you go round the turn, being sucked down is so
- 9:20important. And like you said, it's being on
- 9:21like being on rails. So if you imagine you're on a
- 9:23roller coaster, for those of you that have done stealth in Thorpe
- 9:26Park, you're very fortunate at the actual fact that it goes up
- 9:29before it turns left. Because on some of those roller
- 9:32coasters where you weren't expecting it because you're in
- 9:34the dark or something thinking like there's the, I can't
- 9:37remember the ride that's in Space Mountain.
- 9:40When you're in Space Mountain in Disneyland, you just suddenly
- 9:42turn. You can't see a thing and your
- 9:44head you whipped one time. It's such a good reference
- 9:46because I think lots of people will be able to resonate with
- 9:49that, but you get smashed into like what's holding you, like
- 9:52the cage. And that's the exact same sort
- 9:54of a lot less. Yeah.
- 9:56So when it comes to neck training, a lot of people might
- 9:58think and go back to the classic bodybuilder training that you
- 10:01see where they've got the the, like, weird leather thing they
- 10:05put on their head with a weight plate hanging on it.
- 10:07And they do use that. The difference between a
- 10:09bodybuilder training specific things like their traps that
- 10:12give them more visible size. Formula One driver has to have
- 10:16strength in every single muscle fiber essentially to be able to
- 10:19cope with the change in that force direction as they go round
- 10:23a. Turn.
- 10:23Yeah, I'd imagine it's more isometric than in.
- 10:26Like you're actually holding a static you're resisting rather
- 10:30than a bodybuilder who might be doing loads and loads of reps.
- 10:33A lighter load to develop size. Exactly.
- 10:35So they, they will actually be using those like those, I don't
- 10:39even know what they're called, like neck, head wear accessory.
- 10:44Yeah, he's definitely not a form of clothing that you would wear
- 10:47out. But yeah, they, so they'll put
- 10:49that on and they will do, they will like lie down and they will
- 10:52do like neck lifts, essentially trying to progressively overload
- 10:56the strength with weight plates that hang in a bit like a dip
- 10:59belt or a But the other thing that they will do, like you
- 11:03said, is some isometric holds. So one of the best way for
- 11:05people to visualize this, a lot of people listening might have
- 11:08been told to do Copenhagen's where you lie sideways like a
- 11:11plank, but then you have one of your legs up on a bench and
- 11:13that's training your add up to muscle in your leg.
- 11:15But they basically do that with their neck.
- 11:19So then their head is on the edge and then they lie sideways
- 11:21for as long as possible. And then to make it harder,
- 11:23rather than their feet being on the ground, they'll lift their
- 11:26feet up again. So then you've essentially doing
- 11:28Copenhagen with your neck, which is mad.
- 11:30So they'll hold that as long as possible.
- 11:33And then every once in a while they'll go in for testing with
- 11:36the team and they will literally have a member of the team foot
- 11:40up on the table like they're trying to RIP the handle off a
- 11:42door. And the other end will be
- 11:44attached to their neck and also in the chain.
- 11:46They'll be like a force measure and it will say how much force
- 11:49your next table to withstand and it's.
- 11:51Just it's amazing. Yeah.
- 11:52Yeah. It's really, really.
- 11:53The next thing which they have to train for similar reasons is
- 11:56their core. So you'll also see online these
- 11:58videos of I think there's a famous 1 of Checo Perez where
- 12:01he's holding these two handles in front like he's on a roller
- 12:04coaster and all of a sudden he has to fight the rotation and do
- 12:07it as possible. When it changes direction,
- 12:08you've got to fight it. So core is a massive thing
- 12:11because if you're going to think about they're in these bucket
- 12:14seats and as much as you're trying to keep your neck stable
- 12:17for your, your vision's purpose, if your body starts falling away
- 12:21or we're stuck to the side of the, of the vehicle of the, of
- 12:24the cockpit, basically, then good luck trying to use your
- 12:28arms to stay. And also like what's your neck
- 12:30attached to, attached to your body?
- 12:33So it's like if you can have stability through the full
- 12:35trunk, you're much more likely to be able to like stay in a in
- 12:39a stable position when you go around these corners.
- 12:41Yeah. And so with that, again, it's
- 12:44more isometric hold. There is a degree of like using
- 12:47weights to do stuff. But as I'm sure everybody knows,
- 12:50like, you will do things like planks and it gets to a point
- 12:55where you do it for so long. And I think the world record for
- 12:58plank, by the way, is like 36 hours, which is insane.
- 13:01Yeah. Yeah, I've seen a video of some
- 13:02guy holding it reading a magazine.
- 13:03Yeah, but there's there's no point in in fact, there was a
- 13:06guy who planked the entire length of the two hour marathon
- 13:09world record. I saw online what it there like
- 13:12he did it there Silly. But they're obviously not going
- 13:16to do that because at a certain point the benefit is just not on
- 13:19theirs. But they will be doing things
- 13:22like planks. They will be mostly doing
- 13:24rotational core activation though and a lot of it will also
- 13:28be preventative injury. And you might be thinking like
- 13:33what goes on there, but in some of the crashes because of the
- 13:36geos are in the crashes, if they're a, if they're able to do
- 13:39the reactive core training, if you're thinking like a Med ball,
- 13:42you throw a wall and catch. That's the sort of thing they do
- 13:45still have to do. It's great for building strength
- 13:48on impact, but when you're actually thinking about the
- 13:50impact they might have, it's really protected for the body
- 13:53and the spine. I think it's quite, quite an
- 13:54interesting one. Like they all have like personal
- 13:57trainers who create their programs and it's very sport
- 14:00specific. It's like you say, it's a lot of
- 14:02neck and core, but also when you think about F1 as a sport, the
- 14:08cars are always being designed to be as light as possible.
- 14:11So I think it might have been Lewis Hamilton as well who said
- 14:15there's like there's almost a limit to how heavy he can be.
- 14:19And they all, all the drivers are tiny.
- 14:21Basically the small you are the best.
- 14:23And you look at Kimmy Antonelli, the guy's tiny.
- 14:25He might have a massive neck, but if he's in the gym and he's
- 14:28putting on loads of muscle mass, he's going to make the car
- 14:31slower. So there's like this balance
- 14:33between I need to be fit, I need to be training, and I need to be
- 14:36healthy and I need to be strong, but I don't want to be too heavy
- 14:39because it's going to be detrimental to my overall
- 14:41performance as a driver. That's exactly it.
- 14:43And even to the point where if if you didn't know this, most
- 14:46Formula One drivers are actually quite short because again, just
- 14:49by simply being taller, you weigh more.
- 14:52So when it comes to their training, like you said, a large
- 14:55amount of it might be body weight training with like pull
- 14:58ups and that sort of thing. And they are having to build
- 15:00muscle around all of the joints to again, be protective, be able
- 15:03to withstand the G forces through those turns.
- 15:05You can imagine grip strength is actually quite an important
- 15:07thing because when you're dealing with not even just like
- 15:11having to steer and do that for often two to three hours
- 15:15depending on how long the race actually does go on for or some
- 15:18longer practice sessions, that kind of thing.
- 15:20But the stress, like anybody you grip tight and just being able
- 15:25to deal with that over the period of time And I've gone go
- 15:28karting and I get off and I'm like.
- 15:29And also like the vibrations that you're going through,
- 15:32whether it's the bumps in the in the road or it's the engine
- 15:35vibration, you're constantly holding on to something that's
- 15:37vibrating. I don't know how much the the
- 15:39gear changing is going to affect your grip, but that's another
- 15:42thing to contend with. If we keep it motorsport, but a
- 15:45little bit more grip specific. Moto GP, Imagine cranking on the
- 15:50brakes as hard as you can. Like a lot of the motorcycle
- 15:53riders, they're like a lot of their trainings just grip and a
- 15:56lot of them will spend time on the rowing machine because one,
- 15:59it's good for fitness, but two, they're constantly gripping.
- 16:02I don't know if this is a rumour and I might have said it on the
- 16:04podcast before, but there's like a, a sack which holds fluid in
- 16:08your forearm when you contract, when you grip something.
- 16:12And I think you can have that removed.
- 16:13And a lot of the motor GP riders have that like surgically
- 16:17removed so they don't get the detrimental impact of gripping
- 16:20the whole time. But I'm I'm.
- 16:22We need to Fact Check that because that sounds like
- 16:24something now that I've just made a.
- 16:25Real fact. But yeah, if we Fact Check that.
- 16:28That's going to. Be a viral reel.
- 16:29Yeah, sure. So you see this on Instagram
- 16:31before you listen to this episode.
- 16:32Just post it anyway as rage bait because it's like so Not true
- 16:35whatsoever but I said it with confidence.
- 16:39I mean, yeah, it was believable and I'm now hooked on it.
- 16:41I love sack the arm sack. It must be other things.
- 16:48I actually remember when Drive Survive started, one of the
- 16:51first episodes, it was Carlos Sainz in a gym in Cobham, which
- 16:56isn't that far away from here, being trained.
- 16:58And I remember just watching and like, it was a bit tough to
- 17:01watch because the weights were also quite like, they weren't
- 17:05very high. But the thing that was really
- 17:07tough about it was it didn't look like he'd done it very
- 17:10often. And I was like, this is very.
- 17:12Was he new? Was he new to F1?
- 17:14He wasn't that. I mean he definitely wasn't old
- 17:17in F1 but he I wouldn't have said he was new.
- 17:19Per say And why was he in Cobham?
- 17:22So because all of the F, all of the F1 teams are pretty much
- 17:25based in Milton Keynes, bar Ferrari who are in Italy, and
- 17:29then you've got McLaren who are in Woking, which is pretty close
- 17:32to Cobham. He was racing from McLaren at
- 17:34the time, yeah. He was racing from McLaren, so
- 17:37it might have not been like the first season, I can't actually
- 17:39remember when he would have been driving for McLaren, but it was
- 17:42around that sort of time. It was.
- 17:44It was a pretty normal area thing to be.
- 17:45There's the the comment about all the drivers being short.
- 17:49I want to know how tall Yuki Sanoda is, but I reckon he's
- 17:53like, he's tiny, isn't he? I think I think he's like 5 foot
- 17:5645. He's little, but there's also
- 17:58like a Drive to Survive episode where he's doing some training
- 18:02with his trainer and he just hates it.
- 18:05He's just like a long spoiled kid, isn't he?
- 18:07If we're being honest, I don't think any.
- 18:08I mean, I'm, we spoke about it last week with George Grassley
- 18:12running ridiculously fast times. Just because you're an athlete
- 18:15doesn't mean you love the gym. It's actually quite rare that
- 18:17the athletes love the gym side of it because they'd rather be
- 18:20doing their sport more. I think that's the same with
- 18:22those guys. Is that like driving on the face
- 18:25of it and definitely in history wasn't a gym based sport or
- 18:28strength and conditioning based sport.
- 18:29So I, I think some of them have realized they've probably got to
- 18:32do that work. Others of it that have just sort
- 18:35of accepted that from them day one and have built it in
- 18:37probably have less of an issue and therefore probably are some
- 18:40of the more high level drivers. Now you've never seen Max really
- 18:44mention it, but there's plenty of videos of him doing that sort
- 18:47of thing. Lewis is always I have.
- 18:49To dig out I I must be rage bait because this was I put it on my
- 18:54story and made a whole thing about it.
- 18:55Max Verstappen put up a post of him training.
- 18:58Oh yeah. And it was just like truly some
- 19:01of the worst movement integrity I've ever seen of any person
- 19:04ever. Like didn't doesn't matter he's
- 19:06an F1 driver or an athlete. It was a must have been rage
- 19:10bait because the way the guy moves was I'll find it because
- 19:13it's it's baffling. Like truly baffling.
- 19:15There's there's two more things that I want to have mentioned a
- 19:19physical training than they do that you'll often see Lewis
- 19:23Hamilton out on a run if anything, basically doing his
- 19:26best Mary McCarthy impression running with his phone in
- 19:28reverse explain what he's doing Yeah top off as well Hyrox guy,
- 19:33but he does a lot of cardio training and natural fact a lot
- 19:37of the Formula One drivers do a fair bit of like easy running
- 19:41and you might be thinking just keeps them generally fit.
- 19:44The actual reason is they need to lower their heart rate as
- 19:48much as possible because you can imagine when they're in the car,
- 19:51unlike other endurance events over that scale of time, they're
- 19:53unable to fuel in the same way. They they have to hydrate a lot
- 19:58because they lose so much sweat during the race.
- 20:01I would actually, I wish I had looked at this because it's
- 20:03something I thought. I don't know if any of them have
- 20:05like carb mix. If that would make a difference.
- 20:08Interesting. For sure, For sure.
- 20:10And they're electrolytes especially like at the hotter
- 20:12races, like they always quote somewhere like Malaysia, where
- 20:15it's like humid as well and it's just hot.
- 20:17The amount of fluid that they're losing.
- 20:20Yeah, as like, how Long's the Grand Prix?
- 20:22Like a couple of hours. Yeah, 2-3 hours and.
- 20:24They're dry and it's like concentrating.
- 20:27It's, it's, I mean, it's you think about it and you go, oh,
- 20:30they're just driving a car. But that must be hard work, like
- 20:32when yanking this thing around the track.
- 20:34If you type in like Formula One, drive a slow motion when you see
- 20:38the consistently on some of the road circuits like Monaco, there
- 20:42is less than one centimetre between their wheel and the
- 20:44barrier on every corner of a fast lap.
- 20:48That's such high levels of precision and skill that.
- 20:51Is, well, that's the well, that's the other thing I think
- 20:52you you overlook. Obviously there's the physical
- 20:55aspects, but you have to concentrate the whole time at
- 20:59such high speeds, like it's any lapse of judgement, any lapse of
- 21:04concentrated banger in the barrier you're spinning and
- 21:06you're smashing your car up at hundreds of miles an hour.
- 21:09So it's like the stress of the whole thing.
- 21:12If you can't stay calm and you can't keep your heart rate level
- 21:15and low, then you're going to really struggle.
- 21:18And yeah, so when you're in those high stress and you're
- 21:20actually racing, one thing you you'll always assume is that the
- 21:23drivers are tactically fighting it out and who can put the car
- 21:27in the best position. But it's also like if that goes
- 21:28on for 10 laps, which driver can continue doing it physically as
- 21:33well as their longest? And there will be some drivers
- 21:35that have just got less experience and are less
- 21:37physically trained. And they might, their grip might
- 21:40go for a split second on a turn, which means they actually go
- 21:43deep into the turn and they've opened themselves up and they
- 21:45get overtaken. It's just like, even now I'm
- 21:47saying that and I'm thinking, I've never even thought that
- 21:49when I'm watching someone get overtaken.
- 21:51Yeah, yeah, like what was the reason why?
- 21:53Was it just because the guy behind was better or was there?
- 21:55Always assumed it was just the other car was faster and the
- 21:57other driver was better. But like that, mistakes happen,
- 22:01and you sometimes just go, oh, it was a mistake, but the
- 22:03mistake could well have been a physical, not just a mental
- 22:06misjudge. I wonder if it's like, because I
- 22:09always use my own experience playing rugby when I watch the
- 22:12sport now at the professional level, how fast it is, how
- 22:16physical it is and you, you just like if I put myself in that
- 22:19situation, I would be battered instantly and I like I just
- 22:23couldn't keep up with the speed. I don't know if it's the same
- 22:25thing as you progress playing the sport from when you're
- 22:28younger, when you start karting, it's a certain speed and a
- 22:31certain level. And there's always going to be
- 22:33naturally gifted drivers and people who understand the
- 22:36cornering and have a bit more commitment, a bit less fear.
- 22:40But naturally as you grow older through the sport and through
- 22:42the ranks, you come up from karting and you go, is it
- 22:45Formula four or Formula three? I don't know.
- 22:47I don't know that the actual sequencing.
- 22:48But then you you come up and you drive in Formula Two and then
- 22:51maybe you're one of the lucky select few.
- 22:54Whoever gets to drive a racing car, you get put in that
- 22:56situation. But like as you progress through
- 22:59the sport, the speed progresses. Is it just like a natural thing,
- 23:02or do you think you have to learn and develop as you go
- 23:05along? Or is it just an intuitive
- 23:06inherent thing? So it's so you are close with
- 23:09Formula 4, you just have to add AD on the end because it's
- 23:12Formula Ford. So all of the cars are Ford, but
- 23:14then it goes Formula 3, then Formula 2.
- 23:16And you are right to an extent with you just naturally progress
- 23:20and what you actually find out is at the slower speeds, a lot
- 23:23of the drivers are able to handle as well.
- 23:28Something we're going to come to is the Formula One simulation,
- 23:31things that are available now where drivers are actually able
- 23:33to train themselves much faster with the reactions than they
- 23:35would necessarily have to or be able to like 20 years ago.
- 23:39But it's definitely like a development thing.
- 23:41And that's why Formula 2 drivers and Formula Three drivers will
- 23:45get cherry picked out of like the Academy process Formula One
- 23:48teams to help them develop into Formula One.
- 23:50And Kimi Antonelli is a perfect example of that.
- 23:52Super, super young. I think he did one year in
- 23:54Formula 2 before he went into Formula One.
- 23:56That's like really rare and not. And some drivers will win
- 24:01Formula 2-3 years in a row and actually not make the step up to
- 24:041 because Formula One teams just don't think they've got the
- 24:06speed. And when we say the speed,
- 24:08obviously we're we're talking about their ability to drive the
- 24:10car fast. And you see as well, like
- 24:13Formula One teams will take someone like Liam Lawson, who's
- 24:16this like phenom, he's going to be the next best Red Red Bull
- 24:18driver, gets to that top level and just can't hack it, just
- 24:21cannot hack it. And I mean, there's a lot more
- 24:23pressure and life stuff around that.
- 24:24But at the end of the day, just cannot make the jump.
- 24:28The difference being, and there's a really good Top Gear
- 24:31episode where Richard Hammond goes and drives a Formula One
- 24:33car. But when he's doing that, first
- 24:35of all, he's really struggling with the head, like not letting
- 24:38it hit the front. But the jump from Formula Three
- 24:42to Formula Two, he's like, wow, this is fast.
- 24:45Puts it in the Formula One. And he is like, this is actually
- 24:48terrifying. This isn't actually fun.
- 24:50This is so scary. So yeah, I think, I think there
- 24:54is an element of that. But when when you do take the
- 24:56step up, it's different. The only other thing to say on
- 24:58that note, though, and as a caveat is the car that he was
- 25:01driving at was the Renault Formula One car, which is
- 25:03actually the fastest Formula One car ever.
- 25:05Formula One cars are a touch slower now and there's various
- 25:09reasons for that. But yeah, there is.
- 25:11There is a level of natural progression, but then there is a
- 25:13big jump still. I'd be interested also, like
- 25:15they should do some testing and studies on their brains.
- 25:19Like are they processing fear or do they have like this
- 25:22irrational? Like I'm not scared.
- 25:24I'm just driving a car. Whereas like you go that speed
- 25:27even like at certain speeds you're driving on the motorway
- 25:30and you're like, if you actually take a second to think about
- 25:32what would happen if you did crash, they can't have that
- 25:36hesitation or that thought process.
- 25:38And I had a conversation with my dad who die hard Formula One fan
- 25:43have been following it his whole life and that's how I got into
- 25:45it as well. He made a comment about must
- 25:50have been Sebastian Vettel and said something changed when he
- 25:54had kids. And it's like there's OK, well,
- 25:57now I'm, I'm not just driving for me.
- 25:59If I decapitate myself or go into the barrier or like explode
- 26:03in a ball of flames, I'm leaving behind of my wife, my kids.
- 26:07It's like there's a little switch that happens in your
- 26:10brain. And I, Max Verstappen's recently
- 26:13a father as well. Well, recently the last couple
- 26:15of years. I don't know if something's
- 26:16similar will happen with him. Well.
- 26:18It was interesting, extra responsibility.
- 26:20I think a lot of the drivers grow up and they idolize, you
- 26:24know, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton now who's just won
- 26:27countless World Championships. But at the end of the day, all
- 26:30they ever want is to be crowned world champion.
- 26:32And a lot of them while they are young and on the way up to doing
- 26:35that, that's all they care about.
- 26:38But then when it happens and for Max, when he went back-to-back,
- 26:41he's, I remember him saying in an interview like I've been
- 26:44world champion. I when I heard that, I was
- 26:47really surprised, especially from him because I was like, I
- 26:50thought he was so cutthroat and all he cared about was winning.
- 26:53But he's like, actually there's more to life than and to racing
- 26:56F1, same as Scottish Scheffer and golf.
- 26:58He was like, actually there's more to life than playing golf.
- 27:01I might be world number one, but if I can never play golf again
- 27:04now, I mean, it's not the end of the world.
- 27:07This. Is this is a bit of a tangent of
- 27:08the conversation, but I do wonder if that's partly to do
- 27:10with the economics of sport now, because I feel like back in the
- 27:12day with like Michael Schumacher, when he's winning
- 27:16countless World Championships, is he earning comparatively
- 27:20anywhere close to what the guys that are winning now?
- 27:23So like. Whereas if you make you still
- 27:25need your silver for life. Like even one season being
- 27:29rubbish. So all of a sudden is it like,
- 27:30well, I actually can kind of take my foot off the gas, Great
- 27:34pun. But like, I can do that because
- 27:36I want to go and enjoy my life and yes, Formula One is
- 27:40incredible and I get to see the world, whatever, but I also
- 27:42would like to see the world and be healthy and have nice time
- 27:44with my family and that sort of thing.
- 27:46You just, you just have to go on any of the F1 drivers Instagram
- 27:49page and that's like the ideal life, isn't it?
- 27:51It's like if, if they're not driving, they're probably sat on
- 27:54their yacht or in their nice house in Monaco.
- 27:57Or, you know, you swipe through Instagram, you get Lewis
- 28:00Hamilton's most expensive properties and you flick through
- 28:02and he's got like a ranch in Colorado.
- 28:04He's got like a £40 million house in Notting Hill.
- 28:06And it's just like this guy that lives the dream.
- 28:08Like he doesn't, he doesn't need to worry about anything.
- 28:10It's like, is there actually that motivation for him to now
- 28:13go and win with Ferrari? Probably not.
- 28:16He's already done it all. Well, one of the things that's
- 28:18interesting about drivers away, like away from driving lives
- 28:22now, but has changed is we were talking about, well, this ties
- 28:26quite nicely. We were talking about what they
- 28:27do away and like looking at their lives on social media, but
- 28:30also the income streams. There's now multiple Lando
- 28:36Norris is known for being one of the founders of a YouTube
- 28:38channel called Quadrant. And they're almost like the side
- 28:42men in in terms of size now, like their channel must be
- 28:45making millions a year. And that's relatively passive
- 28:48income. And what he will sometimes do is
- 28:50make an appearance on that. He's also got his own channel.
- 28:52Streams as well. Doesn't he race streams?
- 28:54And like we'll just sit doing essentially racing, training,
- 28:58training and and quite a lot of them do it like sometimes Max
- 29:01Verstappen will join on stream and and race each other.
- 29:03Yeah, it's good. That's where it's different and
- 29:05you kind of got the new school age of driving because Lewis
- 29:08Hamilton won't do that. No, he's not interested.
- 29:10They have same time. And this is actually worth
- 29:12mentioning. So in preparation for a race,
- 29:16sometimes, especially with newer drivers, teams will run like a 2
- 29:19day simulation setup, which could be 450 laps.
- 29:23So like 8 to probably like 6 to 8 times race length across a 2
- 29:29day spell. So like that's not just get used
- 29:33to being in that cockpit, it's learn every centimetre of that
- 29:37core so that when we get there, it's just muscle memory.
- 29:41And like that's also what the track walks for.
- 29:43You'll see some of the guys before they get in the car
- 29:44closing their eyes and just like steering and they're just going
- 29:48through it and until it is that muscle memory.
- 29:50Some of my favorite videos, have you seen when they, it's like F1
- 29:53media and they've got a driver at the track and they'll give
- 29:56them headphones and based off the revving of the engine,
- 29:59they'll go, what track is this? And they can hear how high it's
- 30:03revving down the straight and then into the corner.
- 30:05And they're like within like a couple of seconds or maybe one
- 30:08or two turns, they're like, yeah, that's the cops at
- 30:11Silverstone or whatever. And they're like, how do you
- 30:13know They're like, yeah, that's flat out at Spa.
- 30:15Like I know the corners so well and I know the sound of the
- 30:18engine. That's like that's next level.
- 30:20The nerdiest thing that I have done within Formula.
- 30:23SO this might be news to a lot of people.
- 30:25There's a place called Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey,
- 30:28unreal place to go. It's free to go there and walk
- 30:29around, sit in all Mercedes cars for a while.
- 30:32I don't think they do this anymore.
- 30:33They would show on a project to the Formula One race of the
- 30:35weekend on and you could come in and watch it for free obviously.
- 30:39Like me and my dad would go and get lunch and we'd sit there and
- 30:41watch it. It was great, so good.
- 30:42But they used to give out like a piece of paper that was a
- 30:44program of the race, like a rundown, everything that was
- 30:47going on with Mercedes. Really cool.
- 30:49And I remember sitting there and at the time Formula One 2011 had
- 30:54just come out on Wii, which was a goated game.
- 30:56It was basically Mario Kart before me one.
- 30:58And I had played it with my cousin non-stop since he came
- 31:02out. So when I sat down, I saw this
- 31:03piece of paper. I think the race was at Spa in
- 31:06Belgium. But they put, I can't even
- 31:09remember what race they put at the time.
- 31:11I knew I just looked at the track for a second.
- 31:12I was like they put the wrong track match.
- 31:15The trick came out for them. And I was like the track match
- 31:16wrong. And they were like, where what's
- 31:18that one then? And I just told them in an
- 31:19incident and they. Were like honestly like it must
- 31:22have been O seven season or something on PSP.
- 31:26If you any of the tracks, you know when they used to race.
- 31:29I don't know if they still race at Barcelona, but the track in
- 31:32Spain, it's like such an iconic shape.
- 31:34Any of the track maps, just. I know.
- 31:37Yeah, it's actually crazy. So cool, so sad, isn't it?
- 31:40So sad, so sad. The final.
- 31:43Two things I wanted to talk about is kind of attached to
- 31:45that is the reactive training and I think the simulation stuff
- 31:48and what they're doing in by playing the games is getting the
- 31:50reaction training in driving sense.
- 31:53But then you'll see them doing the thing that they I swear they
- 31:56used to do this on a program called the Saturday Show on
- 31:57ICBC. But like the life of the world,
- 32:00anyone that was at High Rocks London saw the original source
- 32:03thing. It was like testing your
- 32:04reaction time. How quickly can you get through
- 32:05whatever it is 50 of the I actually, I mean, I won the
- 32:11prize, but I didn't win overall and I was gutted.
- 32:14So was that you and your story where you're like, test this
- 32:17guy? Whoever won test this guy, it
- 32:20was what? But yeah, they'll do some
- 32:25variations of reaction training. Another one that you'll see is
- 32:27holding 2 tennis balls out and the guy will drop 1 and they
- 32:29have to catch one from hands over the top.
- 32:32They quite often do that just in the way up to a race to kind of
- 32:35in a non stressful environment start warming up those reflexes
- 32:38or even just like juggling again like go on YouTube look up
- 32:42Formula One nearest misses and I have no idea how there aren't so
- 32:46many crashes, but then just go and watch an A cockpit view of
- 32:50the start of a race. They won't be going that quick,
- 32:53but how all of those cars get round the corners is.
- 32:57Meant but then, then. So first one, like the reaction
- 33:02time, that has to be inherent. Like your brain just cannot
- 33:06process that fast. So it's like, yes, you can do
- 33:09all the juggling, you can learn how to juggle the tennis ball
- 33:11with your feet and whatever and you can practice and do all the
- 33:14light games. But when you're going at 100
- 33:16miles an hour and and like something pops a bang, that's
- 33:19it. That's just inherent.
- 33:20Like when something falls out of the kitchen cupboard and you go
- 33:24and you just catch it and you're like, fuck my spider, Yeah, you
- 33:27know what I mean? So it's like that, those
- 33:29reactions that is so. Real.
- 33:31You're like, Oh my, Oh my God. So that was the the first one
- 33:36and now I can't remember what the other one was going.
- 33:38I'm thinking about so many times in my life.
- 33:39You're like mum, like I think you're aware of who you're
- 33:42dealing with. No one else on this?
- 33:45Planet. Oh no.
- 33:46So. And no one ever watches, do
- 33:48they? No one ever sees it.
- 33:50The final thing and before we wrap this up, is heat training,
- 33:54which is something we've spoken about before in other sports.
- 33:57And in a weird way, Formula One was a bit ahead of the time on
- 33:59this because back in old school Formula One, the drivers
- 34:04basically sat on top of the engines, got really hot in
- 34:07those. And with newer technology, the
- 34:11race suits the drivers wear are more breathable now because they
- 34:14have to wear them for flame retardation basically.
- 34:18Well, they're wearing layers as well.
- 34:19Like there's the flame retardant and then there's the overalls as
- 34:22well. Like there's even if it's
- 34:23breathable, you're still wearing freaking 2 layers and like.
- 34:26And the helmet alone is thick balaclava.
- 34:28Yeah, so much so they're dealing with ridiculously high heat.
- 34:33And then when you take them out to Miami or you take them out to
- 34:35like you said, Baku, some of the some of the far hotter circuits
- 34:38where and the air temperature might be like 33°, trap
- 34:43temperature might be 52°, They're on the track.
- 34:46You can see like the I don't know what that with the flame,
- 34:49the. Heat haze.
- 34:50Yeah, you. Can see it like rippling off the
- 34:52track. It's just like, it must be
- 34:53horrible. Just for reference as well, one
- 34:55of the American football games I played in it was a 33° day.
- 35:01We were on rubber. Crown we were on rubber Crown.
- 35:03I threw a ball to a receiver and he fell over running a route and
- 35:07when he got up he just looked at me and was like, bro, I'm done.
- 35:09And I was like, are you injured? He was like, no, I'm fine.
- 35:11His the bottom of his cleats, which would like adhesively
- 35:15glued on to the his come up. Who come up.
- 35:17He was wearing like a sock and the studs were in the ground.
- 35:20Oh my God, it was mad so insanely hot.
- 35:24So I can only imagine on an actual black surface how hot
- 35:27that is and that, you know, comes into effect with a lot of
- 35:30their choice and strategies and racing.
- 35:31But yeah, heat training is massive for them, but not so
- 35:34much. So yes, there's the physical
- 35:36element. Again, keeping their heart rate
- 35:38down in those moments, but also just like, maintaining focus.
- 35:42Yeah, Yeah. Is a big one.
- 35:44I remembered now my other point. So obviously the introduction of
- 35:49it must have been a couple of years now where they have the
- 35:51protective cage around the cockpit.
- 35:53Oh yeah, Halo. Because some driver, I think the
- 35:57reason they introduced it was do you see the there was a crash
- 36:01and a tire wheel came off, bounced and hit another driver
- 36:04and I think unfortunately killed them.
- 36:06So like obviously they need to introduce something like that
- 36:09for protective measures. But when it's pissing down with
- 36:12rain and they're in the Halo, like the Halo offers like it's,
- 36:16it's right in front of your face, man.
- 36:18Like you have to be able to see past it.
- 36:20And I'm sure they're at the point now where they're
- 36:21naturally they can see past it. But when it's pissing down with
- 36:24rain and you see a cockpit view, you can't see anything.
- 36:28Like maybe sometimes you see the flash of a tail on.
- 36:31You don't even see that when it when there are speed in the mist
- 36:33is flying up behind the light. You can't.
- 36:35You have to be truly tapped to like put your foot flat on the
- 36:38floor there. I was just like when I see that
- 36:39I was that honestly really, really impresses me.
- 36:42I'm I'm I'm out of spite. I'm very jealous of the F1
- 36:45drivers because they live an amazing life and I'm like, do
- 36:48you actually have to be that good at driving to be an F1
- 36:50driver? But.
- 36:51No, because Lance strolls always in there and he's still there.
- 36:54Somewhere put me in a car. I'm like, I don't even know you.
- 36:57There's no button to turn on. Like, what do you do?
- 37:00Like what all the fucking buttons do.
- 37:02And and then it's like learning what the buttons do with code
- 37:06names so other teams don't know what you're like.
- 37:08Strat one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:11Push or whatever. And like you have to, I'd be
- 37:14like looking at the buttons, but you're doing that at freaking
- 37:16200 miles an hour. It's.
- 37:17Like touched, I think. You need to and like turning
- 37:20dials and they're telling you different things.
- 37:22Like even that alone is really impressive.
- 37:24And then put on the fact that it's a million degrees in the
- 37:27cockpit or it's pissing down with rain or yeah, it's, it's
- 37:31like it's a, it's a very, it's a very dangerous sport, but it's
- 37:34like, it's a very impressive sport when you actually break it
- 37:36down. So when you were talking about
- 37:38that, the different elements to a sport and you have skill based
- 37:42sports and then non skill baseball, I can't remember what
- 37:45the other end is called instead of non skill based.
- 37:49Whatever this one is kind of a bit of is is kind of a sleeper
- 37:53on the non skilled training because they have to do so much
- 37:56of that to then actually be able to use their skill on rice day
- 37:59because they actually have to get there first of all.
- 38:02So it is it is a super impressive.
- 38:03Sport and they are very highly talented athletes.
- 38:06When people go well, you're just sitting down in a car and you're
- 38:08not like it's, it's very physical.
- 38:10Yeah, but no. So I mean, that's the race of
- 38:13it. Hopefully you guys found that
- 38:15somewhat interesting. If you would like us to deep
- 38:17dive onto a particular driver and see if we can dig something
- 38:20out, maybe like Lewis Hamilton, if we could find something in
- 38:23Michael Schumacher, maybe. Or if you'd actually like us to
- 38:25go into finding out about sack removal from the forearm and do
- 38:29something in Moto GP and look at like Valentino Rossi is a name
- 38:33that you guys might know. If you don't know he's got a
- 38:34monster named after him, then we will do.
- 38:37Just drop it in the comments or shoot reach out to us at
- 38:40Mindsets under score podcast on all socials while you're there.
- 38:44Drops follow subscribe like it's all free.
- 38:47It's literally all free. So thanks, special offer,
- 38:50special offer. We're going to move into grind
- 38:53my gears. That's the we've got some good
- 38:55ones this week, but we'll we will race through them.
- 38:59Should I start off with a bit of a headliner?
- 39:01I'll go for it. This one is You come from Jake
- 39:04Deardon. Really.
- 39:05Jake Deardon? Yeah.
- 39:06People Huge. Fan of the podcast?
- 39:08Huge fan of the podcast. People not getting out of the
- 39:11fast lane even when they're fast.
- 39:13This came because Charlie and Jake were.
- 39:15You can only say that if you're Jake Deardon, so.
- 39:19Charlie and Jake were winning and they were leading the race.
- 39:24The guys who came into the warble second behind them.
- 39:27Jake and Charlie had I think run past a couple of times during
- 39:30the race, but because they were obviously they were moving
- 39:32faster than everyone else on the track bar Jake and Charlie.
- 39:35When they came up behind these guys and were shouting left,
- 39:39they just didn't listen. But then it got to a point where
- 39:43it almost looked like they were doing it intentionally.
- 39:45It's like we're racing you. So like, no, it's like that's
- 39:49not really it in this. But then I but then I go like
- 39:52how? How is the fast lane defined?
- 39:55Because isn't it defined as if I'm running faster than A4 pace?
- 39:58Yeah. So then in theory you can stay
- 40:02in the fast lane, but you still need to be aware of other
- 40:04people. I'm just I'm that's one of my
- 40:08least favorite things when I do a higher ups race is knowing
- 40:11that there's someone faster than me or someone who's like who's
- 40:14like Jake or Charlie who might be racing for a specific time or
- 40:18their livelihood depends on them doing well.
- 40:20I don't want to be the guy who gets in their way.
- 40:22So when we're running around Olympia.
- 40:24It was, I mean utter carnage. Like the course is a go Kart
- 40:27track anyway. And it's it's like there's so
- 40:30many people in mixed double S Yeah, and we were probably the
- 40:32fastest pair running around at all time.
- 40:35So I'm like, I know we're going to dominate the fast lane.
- 40:38So I'm going around screaming at people and then I hear like
- 40:41close to the end where I'm starting, the wheels are falling
- 40:44off, someone's screaming at me and I'm like, no way.
- 40:47Look around Jane's Jade Skillin just like blast past me.
- 40:51But also like the really annoying thing when I'm shouting
- 40:54left, I'm doing it like a bit aggressively.
- 40:56She's shouting left and then as soon as I get out the way she's
- 40:58like thank you, so polite. This.
- 41:01Makes me feel even worse, Jason. Charlie, I can hear when they're
- 41:03leaving the rock zone and they're shouting because they're
- 41:05obviously coming out onto the track.
- 41:06They're like left thank you, like so polite.
- 41:10And it's like, save your breath. I'm not actually.
- 41:13They're, they're advocates for the sport and people look to
- 41:15them to behave in a certain way. And it's great that they do do
- 41:18that. But yeah, I must be really
- 41:19frustrating when you're also used to racing in the elites
- 41:23where it's like you have the whole cause for yourself.
- 41:25And then having to go into like, especially hard, it's like quite
- 41:29a tight course. Yeah, Many corners, Yeah, lots
- 41:32of people. It wasn't.
- 41:33Yeah, quite slow one. Let them get out of the way man.
- 41:35Yeah your turn. My 1 is so so sad and we can get
- 41:40through it fast. Board markers that don't work in
- 41:42the gym. Every time I go to write
- 41:45something, draw, draw a nice image for my class on the
- 41:47whiteboard. No ink in it.
- 41:49Throw it in the bin, man. And it's also like, you know,
- 41:52when you give a pen to a toddler and they just slam it into the
- 41:55freaking like whatever the table or like a piece of paper or but
- 41:59and it's like flattened, It's just like do.
- 42:02You want me to piss you off? I hate it when people have
- 42:05flattened a ball marker. I agree.
- 42:07No, no, like, oh. That's property.
- 42:09Yeah, yeah, yeah. But actually doing it?
- 42:12Is really satisfying. So satisfying if you're like the
- 42:14best line. So when you get the brand new
- 42:17board marker, this is years of of coaching.
- 42:20When you get a brand new board marker, it's very, very fine at
- 42:23the end. Yeah, obviously there's loads of
- 42:25ink. So it's like it comes out.
- 42:26It's really nice. But if you're writing on a white
- 42:28board, that's fine. You can't really read it.
- 42:30So like you have to squidge it down.
- 42:32But this is just like, yeah. So this is a shout out to the
- 42:36gym owners to buy new. Pens Another one from me is
- 42:43right this weekend at Cardiff and I'm I'm reading the
- 42:46producers notes here so don't counsel me for the wording, but
- 42:49clipboard twat and duct tape dickhead.
- 42:52So what they've done at Cardiff this weekend, and they've done
- 42:55this at places before where they really try and stop people
- 42:58taking photos of people getting their finishes photo really so
- 43:03have. You seen that?
- 43:04No. So.
- 43:05In some places, as an example London Olympia, they tried to
- 43:08make it as far away as spectators as possible so the
- 43:11photos were irrelevant. They forgot the cameras can zoom
- 43:14when they had did it in Manchester previously they did
- 43:18it and then they put up a massive high rocks board.
- 43:20So the people that were on the the couldn't take pictures of
- 43:26people by looking over. In Cardiff they built the
- 43:29Thunderdome around the wall balls and behind the walls
- 43:31there's a finish area. There was a small corner of the
- 43:35upper level of the Thunderdome where you would just be able to
- 43:38get photos but it would be like looking down.
- 43:39Not ideal but like you could get it underneath.
- 43:43They put the high rocks banners to block it all off.
- 43:48However, if you just went on your tip toes, you could look
- 43:51through the little gap and you could definitely hold your phone
- 43:53up. So that's what it was like on
- 43:54Wednesday, Thursday. I'm told when I got there on
- 43:57Friday, they had duct taped the gaps so you couldn't look
- 44:01through, which by the way is just so sad that you have to do
- 44:05that. When I got there, obviously I'm
- 44:07relatively tall so I could reach over the whole thing.
- 44:10So I was doing that with my camera.
- 44:12I could hear someone chatting. No, no, I didn't obviously know
- 44:14it wasn't me. All of a sudden comes along with
- 44:17a clipboard and starts hitting people's phones and my camera
- 44:21away. Like actually like the guy was
- 44:24coming along. And the thing was, I then looked
- 44:25over because I could look over at him and he was like super
- 44:28frustrated. He's just a volunteer.
- 44:30Like doesn't work for Horrocks, doesn't work for sports graph.
- 44:33Like was a volunteer and I was actually like, dude, you're
- 44:36literally swatting at people's hands on phones like expensive
- 44:39cameras. Then duct tape.
- 44:41As the producers said, duct tape dickhead came along and started
- 44:45trying to duct tape from the above level of the Thunderdome
- 44:49down in like stripped one at a time.
- 44:51And obviously people were just knocking them away as they gave
- 44:53up, but it was just like. I understand why they're doing
- 44:57it, but also I thought you could go into the area where I there's
- 45:03been times where you literally pass your phone to the guy
- 45:06taking the official photo Yeah of the finished they're.
- 45:09Definitely not supposed to do that.
- 45:10And they're like they do, yeah. So like, it's irrelevant anyway.
- 45:13Yeah, if people don't want to buy this photograph photos, it's
- 45:16because the quality is so trash. Exactly.
- 45:18Sort that out first and then you won't have to talk to Yeah, it's
- 45:22so dumb, isn't? It next one is for for you.
- 45:26Calling a medicine ball a war ball.
- 45:30I've seen you the other. Way around as well.
- 45:32People call a wobble a medicine ball.
- 45:35We. God, it's really ground your
- 45:39gears. The gears have stopped working.
- 45:41My brain, No, that doesn't. That doesn't make sense because
- 45:44you do a wobble. That's the exercise.
- 45:46You do a wobble with a medicine ball.
- 45:49You don't do you don't do a medicine ball to the the final
- 45:55hundred reps of medicine balls. But you are saying that the
- 45:58thing that you throw at a wobble target is a medicine ball, not a
- 46:01wobble. And the movement is called a
- 46:02wobble. OK.
- 46:03And the wobble target. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:06It's that's that's all wobbles. But the thing you use to do a
- 46:09wobble is a medicine ball. So it's like.
- 46:12If you got a barbell to do barbell thrusters and you called
- 46:17the barbell a thruster. I didn't think that wobbles the
- 46:20ball that you the the the round thing that you throw is a Med
- 46:23ball was a Med ball. I thought that was a wobble, but
- 46:27no, I thought a Med ball was just like a heavier for not not
- 46:30AD ball like a slam ball, like a slam ball, but like.
- 46:34I think they're all, but maybe they're all like relatives of a
- 46:37medicine ball. But you said it earlier, you're
- 46:39talking about core training in Yeah, F in F1 drivers.
- 46:42And you're like when you throw a medicine ball at a yeah.
- 46:45Yeah. You Med though with a wool,
- 46:46Yeah. With a Med ball.
- 46:47I've been wooling for years. Grinding my gears.
- 46:50Yeah, there you go. Such a petty one.
- 46:53Next one quiet carriage, got on GWR train to go to Cardiff and I
- 46:59got on super off peak, as did everyone else in London
- 47:02apparently, and I went to the very front carriage.
- 47:05I was hoping it would at least be a little bit quiet because I
- 47:08had some work to do, but all I'm going to say, it was very
- 47:11obvious these people were going to go to Bristol.
- 47:14That's where they were going. But they've got a speaker out
- 47:19and played the same song four times in a row, which was
- 47:21London's calling, and they were absolutely loving it.
- 47:26So yeah, I. In the quiet carriage.
- 47:28And it just, it was relentless as well.
- 47:30And they, I thought they all knew each other when they got
- 47:33off, they were all like, lovely to meet you, mate.
- 47:35Maybe I'll see you out. And I was like, fuck.
- 47:37But some of them are being like, oh, So what do you do?
- 47:40You look like an English teacher.
- 47:41And I was like, I'm the other end of the carriage.
- 47:43I don't want to be hearing this. I have headphones on as well.
- 47:46I think people sometimes do on purpose to get in the carriage
- 47:49just to piss people off. But I that really that
- 47:51frustrates, you know, Yeah, that's annoying.
- 47:54You only I've got one more quick one afterwards.
- 47:57I've got, well, I've got a few actually, but maybe I'll save
- 48:00them for the next time. There's one that's like doing
- 48:03the rounds on Instagram at the moment is the Norwegian 4x4 by
- 48:07the VO2 Max training where it's like 4 minutes on four times.
- 48:12OK, And it's just like people seem to think this is like the
- 48:15most revolutionary style of training and they're like, Oh my
- 48:18God, I'm going to become an amazing athlete because I'm
- 48:20doing this Norwegian fours. And it's like, look at my VO2.
- 48:25I'm like, this was probably invented in the 90s.
- 48:27And I'm like, you're only you've seen like maybe one fitness
- 48:31influencer do it or like some, maybe it was like Christian
- 48:34Blumenfeld or something or Jakobinka Britson started doing
- 48:37that four by fours. I like posting about it.
- 48:39And they go, and that's revolutionary, Yeah.
- 48:41And now everyone's doing. It but I think trends go round
- 48:43and. It's just annoying.
- 48:44Expecting like 2 years, stupid trend.
- 48:46The JPG lap pull down from Covid's going to come back.
- 48:51The final, final one that I've got.
- 48:53We actually spoke about it last week in a way.
- 48:54Yeah, the new Adidas Marathon Chew because of the reselling
- 48:59that's going on. So they sold out as you would
- 49:02expect, but they sold out at a price of $500 immediately.
- 49:06Them being like 1500 and upwards is is just mad.
- 49:11And you said it last week, but they're pretty much a one time
- 49:13where? Yeah, I'm like as a sneaker
- 49:16head, I'm a bit like, no one really bought that to run in.
- 49:21I I I thought about buying it because it's like, it's a shoe.
- 49:25It's a piece of history. Yeah.
- 49:26Like that is an amazing shoe. And like, that's the shoe that
- 49:30legitimately broke the two hour record.
- 49:33Like that's that. And and for that purpose, like
- 49:36it's a great issue, but if you're actually buying it to
- 49:37racing and then running a 5 hour marathon, you're a dickhead.
- 49:40I, yeah, I also from an engineering perspective, I think
- 49:44Adidas have smashed it with this shoe because I don't think it's
- 49:48in its final form really. I think last year they had great
- 49:51success with the the carbon rods that went down and then they've
- 49:55gone away from the rods and they've done a ring.
- 49:57And from all of my, yeah, from all of my engineering
- 50:01understanding instructions and stuff that I did at university,
- 50:04a ring is not that strong. A ring does not give you that
- 50:07much when it's incomplete. So I'm wondering if next year
- 50:11some of the rods or one or two of the rods come down the middle
- 50:15and all of a sudden you've got the next super shoe.
- 50:16And that's what every other super shoe will look like for.
- 50:18Years. I don't know like how far they
- 50:20can push the boundary though because then to to make it race
- 50:26legal. I don't know what the
- 50:27specifications are. I think the the difficult thing
- 50:30for them now is because the first carbon shoes were full
- 50:33plates. Anything less than that is a how
- 50:39is it fair that it caught it? How is it fair you can have a
- 50:41shoe with nothing in it with less share you can have with
- 50:42more in it. Yeah.
- 50:43So if you have in between, it has to be legal.
- 50:45Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I, I like the idea of rods and
- 50:48the energy rim. I think it's quite likely I I
- 50:51before I and quoted on this, I'd like to do some more research on
- 50:55the history of the carbon plate being introduced into the Super
- 50:59shoe because I think it's from what I remember and what I've
- 51:02heard, I think it's a really interesting story about Adidas
- 51:05originally had the technology and put all of the time and
- 51:09development into the carbon plated shoe.
- 51:12And then one of their employees snaked them and went to Nike and
- 51:15Nike produced the the first carbon shoe.
- 51:16But it was ad that or some something like that.
- 51:19I don't know, but don't quote me on that.
- 51:20We're going to come back with that and the full story and it's
- 51:22going to be amazing. Well.
- 51:24It's I think the biggest difference that you can probably
- 51:26make if you're listening to this in terms of like footwear, is
- 51:32you can go to high socks. I knew it high.
- 51:35Socks we have probably partnered with so High Socks, if you don't
- 51:39know by this point, are grip socks right?
- 51:44You might be thinking, where on earth do I need grip socks?
- 51:46So first of all, if you've got no carpet downstairs, it's quite
- 51:49nice to not slip around. But more importantly for a
- 51:52performance purpose. We've said it multiple times in
- 51:54previous episodes, but genuinely feeling like you're in contact
- 51:57with your shoe and your shoe and your foot being one is massive
- 52:00across any sport. You can guess by the 1st 2
- 52:03letters of the name High that they're originally intended to
- 52:07be Pyrox socks and I've still not worn them for a race because
- 52:12we partnered with them and I haven't raced since, which is
- 52:14really bad, but you have. Embraced twice in them and both
- 52:17times I've loved them. Do you train in them as well?
- 52:20I've I train pre race to kind of get a feel for them but I don't
- 52:23train in them normally, no. I've started training in them a
- 52:26little bit on leg days even. Oh nice.
- 52:28And even when I'm doing like calf raises, I've always found
- 52:30that my heel slips in the back and like, actually not doing
- 52:34that, it feels like I can get more out.
- 52:36Of it, Do you know something that I stole off Chris Bumstead?
- 52:39So this is legit. He trains legs always with his
- 52:43shoes off. And he was saying that I mean,
- 52:45this is before he had his home gym and all of his equipment was
- 52:48personalized to him. But when you put your feet with
- 52:51socks on on some of the leg presses, your feet can slip.
- 52:56So in most gyms it's like it's just plastic.
- 52:59So if you're wearing no shoes, which is probably bad etiquette
- 53:02in a commercial gym anyway, but whatever.
- 53:03I did it the other day. Then your feet will slip unless
- 53:06you're wearing high socks. But in his actual home gym now,
- 53:09he's had a specific machine made for him which has gripped tape
- 53:14on his leg press so he can still wear socks and he won't slip.
- 53:17But if you can't afford your own home gym.
- 53:19I'll reach out to him because we can sort him out with some
- 53:20highsight. Yeah.
- 53:21But yeah, much cheaper alternative.
- 53:23You can save yourself 15% mindset 15 all one word, all
- 53:26caps. And that gives us a little bit
- 53:29of love as well so that we never have to make the subscription
- 53:31button, a paid subscription button on YouTube.
- 53:34As a reminder, if you get in now, you'll never have to pay
- 53:36for that. So you could just go hit,
- 53:37subscribe, hit like while you're there, share it with your
- 53:40friends, with your family, and then go and follow us on all our
- 53:43socials app mindsets under Score podcast.
- 53:45We joke about it, but if you haven't done it yet, please like
- 53:49it. It means a lot.
- 53:50And we're very, very close to being able to do some very, very
- 53:52cool things. And that might be the
- 53:54difference. You might be the difference
- 53:55maker. So please be that person, be the
- 53:58difference maker. I'm going to make a fool of
- 54:00myself now because I've been told that you've bought the game
- 54:04and it's really hard, so bring it on.
- 54:07I wasn't intentionally made to be difficult, but just the topic
- 54:10that I had in my head. I was like, this would be really
- 54:12fun. And then I started making it and
- 54:13I was like, if I was to do this quiz, I would definitely get 0
- 54:17great talk about. Just quickly talk about high
- 54:20rocks. We need to speak it into
- 54:21reality. Obviously for us, the season's
- 54:24done or your season never really started.
- 54:27Yeah, our season is done. Next season, speak into reality.
- 54:31We're going to do the mindsets post race, we're going to race
- 54:36together and then why don't we do a mindsets listener relay?
- 54:41Oh yeah. I'm going, there you go.
- 54:45So we're going to make it happen if you want to race as part of
- 54:47the mindsets relay team. Are we going to be competitive
- 54:49and make sure we choose the best?
- 54:52There'll be an application process.
- 54:53OK, there'll be. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:54It will have to be in the comments and you'll have to be
- 54:56subscribed to be considered. Yeah.
- 54:58No, I think it's been long overdue that you and I race
- 55:02together, and now that my back's not screwed because I've learned
- 55:04how to sleep, you know? There you go again, everyone's a
- 55:06winner. Hit me with this.
- 55:07Quiz I need to turn the laptop screen because I'm scared you're
- 55:10going to cheat. I can't I can read that.
- 55:12I can't even read it so we're all screwed.
- 55:14God it is small. OK, so the podcast game theme
- 55:18for today is famous celebrities owning sports teams.
- 55:22So I'm going to give you a famous celebrity and you're
- 55:24going to have to tell me which sports that they own.
- 55:27So we're going to kick it off with probably or hopefully an
- 55:30easy 1. Ryan God, I can't even pronounce
- 55:33his name. Ryan Ryan Reynolds he owns which
- 55:37UK football team he. Co owns Wrexham.
- 55:40With who do you know for an extra point?
- 55:43I do. That's really mean.
- 55:46I didn't even write it down. He's an actor in Sunny, Sunny
- 55:49Sunny in Philadelphia. Is that even the name of it?
- 55:52Yeah, No. OK, well, I didn't write it down
- 55:58either, so no one's going to know the answer to that.
- 56:00OK, Shame, but you've got one point already.
- 56:02OK, Fantastic. OK Elton John is a former owner
- 56:09of which UK football team? Allegedly.
- 56:11He's been a lifelong supporter. Sonish.
- 56:21Is it like? Leicester City.
- 56:24It's not Leicester City. Do you want another guess?
- 56:28I would call it like a peripheral London team.
- 56:32OK. Very peripheral.
- 56:34Actually that should have gone in the news this week, by the
- 56:36way, Tottenham aren't getting released.
- 56:38I know, which is that's good. That was good stuff that was.
- 56:42It would have been a bit sad to see a team like that go down.
- 56:45Also like you kind of wanted to see that.
- 56:46Stadium in the Championship, didn't you?
- 56:48Yeah. I also think that means that
- 56:50Leicester City might be going down.
- 56:52Oh really? Which is sad because they came
- 56:54up, won it in the first season. Yeah.
- 56:56Anyway, back to. Elton John.
- 56:59Elton John, Bring it back. Fringe London team?
- 57:04Is it like AFC Wimbledon or something?
- 57:08No, you went the wrong way, Watford.
- 57:12The Wolves. Is it, are they the Watford
- 57:15Wolves? Yeah.
- 57:15Is it? Yeah.
- 57:16Nah. I'm not joking.
- 57:18It's not the Watford Wolves, is it?
- 57:20Actually, yeah. Oh.
- 57:21I'm going to have to fact that, check that.
- 57:23OK, well, I know they've got like a something on that.
- 57:25Fact Check it now. I thought it's Watford, Wolves.
- 57:28Really. Yeah.
- 57:30Watford, Wolves. This might be the first time
- 57:33we've ever searched something live.
- 57:35Watford. Wolves.
- 57:36Nah, I can't read that, it's too small.
- 57:40This is old. I mean, it looks like a moose,
- 57:42which is always confusing. Yeah, but.
- 57:44I've always wondered what that is.
- 57:45OK, I don't think it is. No Wolverhampton Wanderers and
- 57:49yeah, Wolves, yeah. Wolverhampton.
- 57:54No one calls on Wolverhampton because they're the Wolves.
- 57:56Football Club. Nickname.
- 57:57They don't have one. OK, I'm glad everyone sat here
- 58:00listening to this debate. The Hornets with a moose on
- 58:04there, what you on about? Well, it's at least it's not a
- 58:08wolf. If it's initial nickname was the
- 58:09Brewers with reference to Ben Skins brewery Rich owned.
- 58:14I hate the word brewery. I can't say it.
- 58:16I said I was just dribble. You know, but if you subscribe
- 58:19to the podcast, whether it's on Spotify, on YouTube, we'll have
- 58:22the ability to get someone behind the scenes who can do the
- 58:24yeah, that's actually so true. The live Googling to put Angus
- 58:28in his place when he's wrong. Next question.
- 58:30Natalie Portman is the co-owner of which women's soccer team?
- 58:37Natalie Corman. This one is hard, yeah.
- 58:40Women's soccer team, Did she? She Co owns.
- 58:44Yeah. I please tell me it's in.
- 58:48Can you tell me if it's in the in the UK or not?
- 58:51No, it's it's based in LA and it was founded in 2020.
- 58:56And the tough thing about this is I have to make up a football
- 58:58team name because I it, it might not even be like LA Galaxy
- 59:02Women's. No, it's not.
- 59:04It might be like the LA Stars. I mean, it was, it was, it
- 59:07actually was a really good guess, Angel City FC.
- 59:10OK, yeah, something kind of cute, which is cringe.
- 59:13They have to do that for women's game, Yeah.
- 59:15American. Yeah, David Beckham.
- 59:17This one's easy. Surely owns his own football
- 59:20team. Into Miami.
- 59:22Easy, easy. Michael Jordan is the majority
- 59:25owner of which NBA team? I don't know.
- 59:30The NBA. Yeah, they must be.
- 59:34See, that's actually really annoying because.
- 59:36You want, you want an issue. You want to say it's you want
- 59:38the Bulls, Yeah. It's not the Bulls.
- 59:39It's not the Bulls, no. And then I'm like, is it the
- 59:45Lakers? No, you're making me second
- 59:49guess if they're actually NBA. Really.
- 59:55I think they are. Is it another LA team?
- 59:57No, I. It's because it's where he's
- 1:00:03from. It must be North Carolina.
- 1:00:08Think of their team. I can see no.
- 1:00:12I'm now thinking of their the college team.
- 1:00:14Like light blue. Yeah.
- 1:00:15That's the college was at UNC or something.
- 1:00:18University of North Carolina. No, I think, yeah, this is that
- 1:00:22must be. Yeah.
- 1:00:23Go on. Charlotte Hornets.
- 1:00:24I wouldn't have guessed that. Charlotte is Yeah, that is, that
- 1:00:28is. There you go.
- 1:00:28That will be why. OK, Dan.
- 1:00:30Jay-Z was formerly, oh God, a minority owner of which NBA
- 1:00:36team? Jay-Z.
- 1:00:38Jay ZI. Don't know again if this is an
- 1:00:42association of where he's originally from, but.
- 1:00:45So I feel like that could be a Chicago Bulls.
- 1:00:48No Think major city New York Knicks good with the New York.
- 1:00:54Yeah, yeah, the Mets. No Nets.
- 1:00:56Brooklyn Nets, Yeah. No.
- 1:00:57Brooklyn Nets, Yeah. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Mets is
- 1:01:00also baseball. Baseball.
- 1:01:01Yeah. Nice.
- 1:01:02Cool. We're getting us our American
- 1:01:03sports or OK, Matthew McConaughey is a minority owner
- 1:01:07of which US based soccer team. Again, this must be an
- 1:01:12affiliation from where he's from.
- 1:01:13But again, I don't know the geography of all of these
- 1:01:15celebrities. My knowledge of USUS soccer team
- 1:01:19so far, I've I think I've said the two that I know and I know
- 1:01:23because David Beckham. Is named after a city.
- 1:01:29I'll, I'll narrow it down. It's a city in Texas, and it's
- 1:01:34not Dallas. Houston.
- 1:01:36It was Austin. Yes, Austin FC.
- 1:01:40You smashed it. Oh.
- 1:01:41FC. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:41Austin Wolves, That's all you had.
- 1:01:43The Austin Wolves. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:44Nice. The Marines or whatever, OK,
- 1:01:47let's keep going with the minority shareholders.
- 1:01:50Will Smith is a minority shareholder in which.
- 1:01:53This, by the way, is the hardest quiz I've ever, ever heard in
- 1:01:57the world. It's just by niche minority
- 1:02:01stakeholder. In which NBA franchise?
- 1:02:06The Boston Celtics. The Philadelphia 70 Niners Oh,
- 1:02:10what is it, 76ers? When they're minority as well,
- 1:02:14this is like asking what drink they got in a meal deal two
- 1:02:17years ago because it's like a small little purchase.
- 1:02:19They just put a name without minority.
- 1:02:21Yeah, Magic Johnson is a part owner of which baseball team?
- 1:02:25I. Was hoping you were going to say
- 1:02:27basketball. No, this one's easy, if you're
- 1:02:30going to guess. New York Yankees No.
- 1:02:34Other coast. The red snow, That's Boston.
- 1:02:51It's in there somewhere. Yeah.
- 1:02:53Well, it will be as soon as you say, I reckon.
- 1:02:59No, I go the. Dodgers.
- 1:03:00LA Dodgers. See, I knew it was in there.
- 1:03:03I was thinking like it wouldn't be Lai was thinking it'd be like
- 1:03:05California or something. LA Dodgers.
- 1:03:07This one's so good at. Least we saw some wearing an LA
- 1:03:09Dodgers cap yesterday. This one's so good.
- 1:03:13I don't want to say minority owner, but he is Justin
- 1:03:16Timberlake. Oh.
- 1:03:17My God. It's a minority owner of which
- 1:03:22ice hockey team? This is a sick name for a team.
- 1:03:26So it's one that I've not had. You just say you've never.
- 1:03:28Heard of them? I was like, why would they have
- 1:03:33a hockey team? But I guess it's just.
- 1:03:36I'm pretty sure there's Is it LA Kings?
- 1:03:39It's not the LA Kings. Who is it?
- 1:03:42The Nashville Predators. That's the.
- 1:03:46Great, Joe. I've really matured in the last
- 1:03:48few weeks because I would have just thrown a political
- 1:03:50statement in there, but I'm not going to do that.
- 1:03:51You're better than, better than that.
- 1:03:52You're better than. That I also don't.
- 1:03:53Want to edit it out again? OK.
- 1:03:55Here we go. Here we go, Here we go.
- 1:03:57OK, Lewis Hamilton, he is part of the ownership group.
- 1:04:04Another way of saying a minority.
- 1:04:06Yeah. Of which NFL franchise?
- 1:04:09Come on. This is was the one where I was
- 1:04:11like franchise. I knew it straight away.
- 1:04:14I actually knew it. He's always going to.
- 1:04:16Games is he? Always.
- 1:04:21But I was a bit like, why have you gone with that team?
- 1:04:25I don't know what his affiliation or association is
- 1:04:27with them. To like the Atlanta Falcons.
- 1:04:29Nah, less cool, less. I know.
- 1:04:32I think it's been made. More cool.
- 1:04:36Because Lewis Hamilton that owns it.
- 1:04:40Got a weird? Oh, it's because he's got.
- 1:04:42He's got, I've said it early, He's got a ranch there.
- 1:04:45Oh, the Houston Texans? No, no, Colorado.
- 1:04:49Oh fuck. Are they orange?
- 1:05:01Stumbleweed. Is it like in the podcast?
- 1:05:03Denver's Broncos. Yeah.
- 1:05:04Is it? Yeah.
- 1:05:04It's Broncos. Weird.
- 1:05:05It's weird, isn't? It why is it?
- 1:05:06Yeah, that's so bizarre. All right, last one, you'll be
- 1:05:10glad to know Serena Williams. Slitchy the there was two there
- 1:05:14was when you started this quiz. I was like there's two that I
- 1:05:16know are coming up and I was so ready for them and neither has
- 1:05:19come up. I'm going to ask you them.
- 1:05:20OK, Is the investor in which NFL team?
- 1:05:24She's also an investor in the Angels with Natalie Portman.
- 1:05:28Is it the Seattle Seahawks? No.
- 1:05:32OK. Is it San Diego?
- 1:05:33No other coast? Other coast as well.
- 1:05:37I think they drafted Quinn Ewes this this last last year in the
- 1:05:41ewes. What's he called?
- 1:05:42Ewes Ewes. I didn't actually pay much
- 1:05:48attention to the draft this year.
- 1:05:49I was last year in the years. Is it like, was it the New York
- 1:05:56Jets? Dolphins.
- 1:05:58It's going to say Dolphins first.
- 1:05:59Miami Dolphins. There you go.
- 1:06:02Damn. OK, you got Wrexham and into
- 1:06:05Miami. Out of how many, 12/12?
- 1:06:09I thought that's hard. The only problem with doing a
- 1:06:11hard quiz, I had to preface it because I was like, I didn't
- 1:06:13want it to be that difficult. Let me give you 2 easy ones.
- 1:06:16But don't, don't come back at me next week with a hard quiz.
- 1:06:19Well, let me give you 2 easy ones.
- 1:06:21Tom Brady. Who's he part of?
- 1:06:25Is it a football team? It is because he played there.
- 1:06:29No. Oh, soccer.
- 1:06:31Soccer, soccer. It's in the UK.
- 1:06:37No. Yeah.
- 1:06:39You're going to ask me Snoop Dogg next, aren't you?
- 1:06:41No, I should have done Snoop Dogg.
- 1:06:43I've forgotten who he part is so.
- 1:06:45Brighton or something? No, it's like Swansea or
- 1:06:47something. Oh yeah, maybe go on.
- 1:06:50Tom Brady owns a a. Are they Prem?
- 1:06:53No, I've got no idea. Birmingham City.
- 1:06:58No, it's not. Why?
- 1:06:59I don't know. That's, well, weird.
- 1:07:01Is that a recent thing? Like a year and a half ago.
- 1:07:05Oh. Snoop Dogg the next one, KSI.
- 1:07:11He owns a football tier. Do you?
- 1:07:14Not Remember Me bring I'd actually announced this on the
- 1:07:16news. I.
- 1:07:17Remember, I wanted, I want to get this one right.
- 1:07:19I I think I I think I know it. The Wolverines.
- 1:07:22Yeah, it's not the Wolverines. Oh the listeners are are hating
- 1:07:27us right now. OK, I was going to say it wrong.
- 1:07:30Dagenham and Red Bridge. Would not have.
- 1:07:31Guessed. Yeah, because that's where he
- 1:07:32start, I think. He's from Dagenham.
- 1:07:35No, so he started playing some when he was doing recent
- 1:07:39division. He didn't start with Dagenham
- 1:07:40and Red Wing did play it. I remember he.
- 1:07:42Was saying that. But it's more like full circle,
- 1:07:44because that's how he. Started Can you quickly Google
- 1:07:46what club? Snoop Dogg.
- 1:07:48Yes, I think it, I think you are right in it being Swansea.
- 1:07:51Swansea City or something that way, 13.
- 1:07:55Swansea City. There you go, the Swans.
- 1:07:57That's that's a weird one to have gone and bought but not I
- 1:08:00don't know if that's more. Weird, I think it's clubs
- 1:08:02reaching out to these. Tom Brady and Birmingham.
- 1:08:05Like Snoop Dogg and Swansea makes no sense.
- 1:08:08It's great news. But do you think they've gone to
- 1:08:09Snoop Dogg and be like, we're one of the best teams in the
- 1:08:12world and he's got no idea? No, he's like, sure man.
- 1:08:15I think he's like you guys, not crap.
- 1:08:17Cool, let's do it. Let's run it, I think, But then
- 1:08:20also like Tom Brady, like. Do you guys care if I come watch
- 1:08:22a game and smoke while I'm there?
- 1:08:24Sure. Let's run it.
- 1:08:26All right. Yeah.
