- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order KERNI Whoaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money the podcast.
- 1:00Speaker 4: And that makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It
- 1:04Speaker 4: is our favorite day of the week because one it
- 1:07Speaker 4: was Christmas.
- 1:08Speaker 2: News is coming, but it's also.
- 1:10Speaker 4: A time for us to get our little team together
- 1:13Speaker 4: and celebrate you, our incredible She's on the Money family.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Jessica Ricci has a few favorite non Christmas money wins. Yes,
- 1:21Speaker 4: I'm sorry, jess Christmas is over, Beck. We're going to
- 1:25Speaker 4: be sharing some of your very exciting broke tips to
- 1:28Speaker 4: help tide us over till the new year, and we're
- 1:31Speaker 4: going to be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma,
- 1:33Speaker 4: which this week is all about investing for kids and
- 1:36Speaker 4: something that you lead into our dms about whether you
- 1:39Speaker 4: should leave your job after missing.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Out on a promotional or not. Juicy. Yes, so how.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Are we all as a good start to the conversation?
- 1:50Speaker 2: You go first?
- 1:50Speaker 5: Yess good, I'm living in the post Christmas bubble. Are
- 1:54Speaker 5: you guys tree down before the end of the year
- 1:56Speaker 5: or leave it up?
- 1:57Speaker 4: Rages until my husband starts complaining aggressively about the fact
- 2:02Speaker 4: that it's up and it's still February, so I haven't
- 2:05Speaker 4: hit that not taking it down?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Interesting?
- 2:07Speaker 5: No, mine's got to be down before January first, which
- 2:10Speaker 5: is I mean? I guess I get a lot of
- 2:12Speaker 5: mileage pre Christmas. Sure to me, I feel like, you know,
- 2:16Speaker 5: the new year knew me fresh slate thing. Yeah, I
- 2:18Speaker 5: feel like if I have the Christmas tree up, I'm
- 2:20Speaker 5: still living in.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yes, maybe I should go on sprinkling and take it down.
- 2:27Speaker 2: You're so like I have weird.
- 2:29Speaker 6: Things like one Christmas as soon as like, okay, I
- 2:31Speaker 6: don't want to see more of it.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I expected Miss Jessic Ricci to be like milk
- 2:37Speaker 4: and Christmas for all its work. But here she is,
- 2:40Speaker 4: She's like, right, so the Christmas tree is absolutely down, Beck,
- 2:43Speaker 4: would you like to go to Cols and pick up
- 2:44Speaker 4: some hot cross buns?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah? I feel like you're onto the next Absolutely, you're
- 2:51Speaker 2: f boy.
- 2:53Speaker 6: Yeah, one goes away like, Okay, where where's my next
- 3:00Speaker 6: waking next?
- 3:02Speaker 2: Literally? How about you guys? How's your week spened?
- 3:04Speaker 3: Oh?
- 3:04Speaker 4: I am absolutely gonna maybe consider taking my Christmas tree down.
- 3:07Speaker 4: And when I say that, I'm just going to think
- 3:09Speaker 4: about it and.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Not do it. It's been good, It's been good. It's
- 3:12Speaker 2: very fun.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I love this lull between Christmas and New Years where
- 3:15Speaker 4: you forget what day it is, Like, what day is it?
- 3:18Speaker 2: You don't know it's Wednesday day.
- 3:19Speaker 6: It's yeah, it's like real guilt free, not not that
- 3:24Speaker 6: it ever shouldn't be guilt free, but it's like really
- 3:26Speaker 6: guilt free rest.
- 3:27Speaker 1: You know.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Because I think the thing that I like about
- 3:30Speaker 4: this period and maybe like this isn't as relatable because
- 3:33Speaker 4: I'm a business owner, is it's the only week of
- 3:36Speaker 4: the year where I know the rest of the team.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Aren't all on like people going on your leave.
- 3:41Speaker 4: But like the business is always on right, even when
- 3:43Speaker 4: I'm on holidays, Like I'm still checking in being like
- 3:46Speaker 4: how are you guys, Like what are you doing?
- 3:48Speaker 2: Do you need me for anything?
- 3:49Speaker 4: I know I'm not needed this week because like even
- 3:52Speaker 4: the girls that are at work, because we still have
- 3:54Speaker 4: like I guess you could say like bait bones teams
- 3:56Speaker 4: to make sure that you know the admin's still done
- 3:59Speaker 4: and that all of you go get someone you know
- 4:01Speaker 4: to come back to you. But like it's one week
- 4:03Speaker 4: that I'm like, nobody needs anything from me.
- 4:05Speaker 2: This is living. Yeah, I'm going to have a second
- 4:07Speaker 2: cocktail on a Tuesday. I am going to do that.
- 4:10Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely. There are no rules.
- 4:12Speaker 2: There's no rules.
- 4:13Speaker 6: I don't think there ever should be. But it's it's
- 4:15Speaker 6: nice that we all can collectively.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Pressure free week.
- 4:18Speaker 7: It really is. It really is.
- 4:19Speaker 6: And me I'm back from Sydney, which is really nice.
- 4:22Speaker 6: It's been a honestly been of a hell of a time.
- 4:25Speaker 6: I've been like waiting for this PA cycle because I'm like, Okay,
- 4:27Speaker 6: it's Christmas. It's going to be very expensive. My car
- 4:30Speaker 6: got told in the city, no, it costs five hundred.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Dollars you parkway.
- 4:37Speaker 7: But it was one. They started at four. I thought
- 4:40Speaker 7: they started four thirty.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Bro, you don't even have the excuse of being pregnant.
- 4:43Speaker 4: But I remember I had that when I was pregnant.
- 4:46Speaker 4: I parked in them.
- 4:48Speaker 2: It was not fun. It was not fun in the city. Yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 2: in this Oh no, it was like in Richmond.
- 4:54Speaker 4: And then they take your car to that place in
- 4:55Speaker 4: Fitzroy and then you have to go pick it up,
- 4:57Speaker 4: and then it feels really weird, Like you go in
- 5:01Speaker 4: and it's this weird office and they want your money
- 5:03Speaker 4: and then they give you your keys and you're just like.
- 5:05Speaker 7: You feel like a criminal.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I am a criminal.
- 5:07Speaker 7: It's crazy.
- 5:08Speaker 6: It's literally well it depends on the council, but it
- 5:10Speaker 6: is Melbourne City. And so four hundred nine dollars and
- 5:13Speaker 6: then one hundred and ninety something dollar fine as well, what.
- 5:16Speaker 2: A fine on top of that.
- 5:18Speaker 6: I know, luckily I could borrow money. But I don't
- 5:21Speaker 6: think I got fine.
- 5:22Speaker 2: I think I just got the toe and they took
- 5:25Speaker 2: my car.
- 5:25Speaker 6: I don't think I know that oping they forget sometimes
- 5:28Speaker 6: they do, you know, they're just they owly humans.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Write out of it. You should do it.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Jessica Ricci. She always writes a letter.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Might write a letter.
- 5:37Speaker 7: I'll write a letter. That's a really good idea. I'll
- 5:39Speaker 7: just really this Christmas. You guys, come on, I mean
- 5:41Speaker 7: it was.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Christmas, and come up with a better excuse than that.
- 5:44Speaker 6: I could.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I could think it was helping a really frail old
- 5:47Speaker 4: man cross the street and therefore I couldn't get back
- 5:49Speaker 4: to my car in time.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And also there were four puppies stuck.
- 5:52Speaker 4: In a drain and I saved them all.
- 5:56Speaker 2: And you guys treat me like this.
- 5:58Speaker 6: And then I finally got up and saw some want
- 6:00Speaker 6: about to hit by cars. Away ran in front of
- 6:01Speaker 6: them and push them. I got hit by a car.
- 6:03Speaker 6: It's a whole thing.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And then I found fifty bucks on the floor. Like
- 6:06Speaker 2: I just that there has to be a story.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Yeah, true, true. They'll be like, okay, well that's our
- 6:09Speaker 7: fifty bucks.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Yeah, but no other than that. Honestly, it's been been
- 6:13Speaker 6: so jobs looking for a house housemate to soave anyone
- 6:17Speaker 6: out there, how's a room let me know, Yes, a
- 6:19Speaker 6: bit all over the place, but it's also fun. I'm
- 6:21Speaker 6: having I'm having the time in my life.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I love it all right, Well, should we get into
- 6:24Speaker 4: it because this week we obviously are a bit lean
- 6:28Speaker 4: on content because scoletal team in the office. But we
- 6:32Speaker 4: have a heap of bloopers from the year that was
- 6:35Speaker 4: that we're going to share with you before we you know,
- 6:37Speaker 4: start fresh and be better next years my favorite tradition.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I love the bloopers.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I'm not looking forward to it because I just know
- 6:44Speaker 4: that every single time we play them, I'm humbled. But
- 6:47Speaker 4: before we get into the bloopers, we actually have another
- 6:49Speaker 4: five star review. This one comes to us in an
- 6:52Speaker 4: a roundabout way, So this one's from Carolyn and she
- 6:56Speaker 4: actually sent us a DM of her five star review.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Oh, I'm really trying all methods.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I can leave them on.
- 7:07Speaker 4: I'll take them however they're coming because they just stroke
- 7:09Speaker 4: out egos that this one's from Carolyn, Lol. Don't know
- 7:12Speaker 4: how to leave a review on a podcast, so I'm
- 7:15Speaker 4: going to send you this. Honestly, this podcast is part
- 7:17Speaker 4: of my self care. I want more content from Jess
- 7:21Speaker 4: making things coming from another creative queen. I am currently
- 7:25Speaker 4: making handkerchiefs for the oldies in my life who need them,
- 7:28Speaker 4: and I'm personalizing them. But I'm going to need a
- 7:31Speaker 4: Robovac to make time for all of this sewing with
- 7:34Speaker 4: how much we work as mums these days, we need
- 7:36Speaker 4: things to cook and clean for us. I work four
- 7:39Speaker 4: days a week with a fifteen month old, so it
- 7:41Speaker 4: is tough to do everything. But thank you so much
- 7:44Speaker 4: for joining me on my drives to work. You guys
- 7:46Speaker 4: are all friends of mine and I spend so much
- 7:49Speaker 4: time with you guys. It's been years as I have
- 7:51Speaker 4: been listening since the beginning.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Oh that's a really really nice.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Pie, isn't that so sweet? Also, I'll take my reviews
- 7:57Speaker 4: however they come. You want to send them in dmsleigh.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Absolutely, if you do, you want to leave them publicly,
- 8:02Speaker 5: you can go in an Apple podcast app and it's
- 8:05Speaker 5: you go to our little show page and you scroll
- 8:07Speaker 5: down to the bottom and you can leave.
- 8:08Speaker 2: You can leave. Do you have to have an Apple phone?
- 8:10Speaker 7: No?
- 8:11Speaker 4: No, yes you do need to have an Apple phone
- 8:14Speaker 4: to be able to leave an Apple review.
- 8:15Speaker 2: But you could rate.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Us five stars on Spotify if that's what you wanted
- 8:20Speaker 4: to do. If you really want to leave a text post,
- 8:22Speaker 4: lots of people have been leaving them on Google. I
- 8:25Speaker 4: just think that's so funny, like leaving podcast reviews on
- 8:28Speaker 4: a Google page.
- 8:29Speaker 2: But let's take it. We'll take whatever we can get, so, yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 2: we'll picky. We just appreciate it.
- 8:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I love that.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It's so cute. All right, so let's get into it, mistress.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yes, when it comes to money, wins and confessions, what
- 8:42Speaker 4: are you bringing to the table?
- 8:43Speaker 2: Alrighty?
- 8:44Speaker 5: This week my first moneyman comes from a Rachel who
- 8:47Speaker 5: said she was out of her usual misca and she
- 8:50Speaker 5: knew that at least one chemist in town was going
- 8:52Speaker 5: to have it on sale.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Isn't that the truth?
- 8:54Speaker 5: She went to Priceline because they had it fifty percent
- 8:56Speaker 5: off on the website, but when she got into store
- 8:58Speaker 5: there was no sale tag. She asked the lovely sales
- 9:01Speaker 5: girl if she could check the price, and apparently it
- 9:03Speaker 5: was an online only sale.
- 9:05Speaker 2: No, how annoying. So annoying.
- 9:07Speaker 5: The girl then said, order it, click and collect, and
- 9:09Speaker 5: I'll pick it for you right now and you can
- 9:11Speaker 5: just go on your merry way. So asking the question
- 9:14Speaker 5: saved her fifteen dollars and it only took two minutes
- 9:16Speaker 5: of her time.
- 9:17Speaker 7: That's so good.
- 9:18Speaker 6: So nicely, she was like, I'll pick a for you
- 9:19Speaker 6: right now, because sometimes it's like twenty four hours.
- 9:21Speaker 7: It's going to take me tween four hours to pick
- 9:23Speaker 7: that up for you.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, shout out to that queen to her.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Next, I got money in from Simmo, who said for
- 9:28Speaker 5: Christmas she did some styling wrapping. She used all the
- 9:31Speaker 5: paper bags that she'd purchased her items in.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I think.
- 9:34Speaker 4: I also think now's the time to save all your
- 9:36Speaker 4: Christmas wrapping. So go and buy all the gift tags
- 9:41Speaker 4: and stuff that it's all fifty yep, y yep, go
- 9:45Speaker 4: buy them, put them in the cupboard for next year.
- 9:47Speaker 2: A hundred is gonna thank you. Yeah, we love that.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money in from Jessica, who said
- 9:52Speaker 5: money good in great name. I recently learned how to
- 9:55Speaker 5: crochet for fun a few months ago, and I was
- 9:58Speaker 5: able to sell some of the pieces at a couple
- 10:00Speaker 5: of markets last week. The side hustle is hustling. Then
- 10:03Speaker 5: she made just over three hundred dollars in sales, and
- 10:06Speaker 5: she's hoping she can do more with markets next year.
- 10:08Speaker 2: And she put in a little photo of her adorable
- 10:10Speaker 2: Oh they're cute. The corner side will die. They're adorable.
- 10:16Speaker 5: May I suggest sad hamsters. The girlies love a sad hamster.
- 10:19Speaker 5: We do love a sad hand because I've got a
- 10:21Speaker 5: money loss from Alps who said money loss courtesy of
- 10:25Speaker 5: BGW market And she's just done what I ordered or
- 10:28Speaker 5: what I expected were versus what I got me too,
- 10:32Speaker 5: So she had ordered a wreath.
- 10:34Speaker 2: It looks beautiful. There's some floral.
- 10:37Speaker 5: Jesus, Jesus and Mary giving a bit of a Nativity vibes.
- 10:42Speaker 2: It looks stunning.
- 10:43Speaker 5: And then she posted a video of what she got
- 10:46Speaker 5: and it's like the classic wish version. It's just a
- 10:49Speaker 5: cardboard print she.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Thought she bought.
- 10:53Speaker 3: She thinks she's.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Bought this wreath and she's literally received a cardboard photo.
- 10:57Speaker 2: We need.
- 10:57Speaker 5: The kozoo sound is at the back of it the video,
- 11:02Speaker 5: So yeah, let's see.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Okay, she got a piece of cardboard.
- 11:06Speaker 5: A cardboard with a photo of the thing that she
- 11:08Speaker 5: thought she'd.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Do.
- 11:11Speaker 5: I believe that happened on the I mean, I know
- 11:12Speaker 5: that it's the marketplace, so I'm assuming they don't.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Really No, I feel like they're getting they're getting real lax.
- 11:17Speaker 4: I bought something last year. Do you remember when I
- 11:20Speaker 4: bought that spa? So like that sounds unrelatable, but it
- 11:23Speaker 4: was an inflatable I bought the inflatable spa and it
- 11:26Speaker 4: came and it was broken, and I had so much
- 11:28Speaker 4: back and forth and they wouldn't take responsibility. It wasn't
- 11:31Speaker 4: Big w it was actually Woolworth's Marketplace, and they wouldn't
- 11:35Speaker 4: take responsibility for it. They said no, no, no, it's the
- 11:37Speaker 4: third party. And then I went to the person the
- 11:40Speaker 4: third party and they said no, no, no, if it
- 11:41Speaker 4: came through Woolworths, that's got nothing to do with us.
- 11:43Speaker 4: And then when I was like, okay, cool, well you
- 11:46Speaker 4: both have denied it, they're like, oh, shipping, it's a
- 11:48Speaker 4: shipping company. And it was a nightmare and I never
- 11:51Speaker 4: got my money back.
- 11:52Speaker 7: So annoying.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Really, those Yeah, those third party setups a little bit.
- 11:56Speaker 4: It's just I get that they're making money, but like, oh,
- 12:00Speaker 4: just just it's not You.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Need to at least get what you're expecting.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Like a cardboard cutout is absolutely.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Not absolutely not absolutely not.
- 12:09Speaker 4: All right, Beck, let's flip on over to your side
- 12:12Speaker 4: of the room. What broke tips you bring into the
- 12:14Speaker 4: table this week?
- 12:15Speaker 6: Okay, so this first one, I didn't catch their name,
- 12:18Speaker 6: but they said, hi, all, I'm listening to today's episode and
- 12:21Speaker 6: you were talking.
- 12:21Speaker 7: About public olive trees.
- 12:23Speaker 6: I do remember that There's this website I use called.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Olive Trees A little snippy snip, yes, yes, correct.
- 12:32Speaker 6: Sorry, Oh my god, I just brush that without giving
- 12:34Speaker 6: anyone any context. But yes, you can make your own
- 12:37Speaker 6: little olive things. That also doesn't clear it up anyway.
- 12:40Speaker 6: There's a website I use called Falling Fruit, which is
- 12:43Speaker 6: a map of public fruit trees. They say, don't be
- 12:45Speaker 6: a dic k obviously, and you know, just steal everyone's fruit.
- 12:50Speaker 6: But it's a good way to find free fruit in
- 12:52Speaker 6: season from feral trees where the fruit would otherwise just
- 12:55Speaker 6: rotten be wasted.
- 12:57Speaker 7: So cool, it's a.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Really good idea. I love that there's an app for that. Yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 2: that's so smart. I adore it.
- 13:01Speaker 4: There's actually on the walk that my husband and I do,
- 13:03Speaker 4: there's a fig tree, and if you know me, I
- 13:06Speaker 4: adore figs, like figs would be my favorite fruit. But
- 13:09Speaker 4: they're so expensive, so like I can't buy them, like
- 13:12Speaker 4: like not not because I can't afford them. I don't
- 13:15Speaker 4: want people to be like Victoria. We know that you
- 13:18Speaker 4: can afford a fit. I can, but I can't justify
- 13:20Speaker 4: it like that's like a luxury like that.
- 13:22Speaker 7: I'm just one figure.
- 13:24Speaker 4: They can be like three or four dollars, which I
- 13:27Speaker 4: think is just insane.
- 13:28Speaker 6: For like two, like generously two spoonfuls of.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Yeah, like fruit.
- 13:33Speaker 4: I just I can't justify it, but they are delicious.
- 13:36Speaker 4: And so I have had this fig tree in my
- 13:39Speaker 4: radar because I can see the figs aren't right, you're
- 13:41Speaker 4: just waiting, waiting, Jessica, someone ransacked the tree and there's
- 13:47Speaker 4: no figs.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Broken. Oh that's so sad.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Yeah, well that's the So I'm going to go on
- 13:53Speaker 4: this app and find where and have a little turn.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Yeah, several turn, so this one obviously, you know where.
- 14:00Speaker 6: Kind of looking forward now to our future Christmas selves,
- 14:04Speaker 6: and we're on every single year. I feel like maybe
- 14:06Speaker 6: we're all the same. We're like, Okay, next Christmas, I'm
- 14:09Speaker 6: going to be a little bit better.
- 14:10Speaker 4: But when now's the time to set up your savings
- 14:12Speaker 4: account and to the automatic transfers to make sure it
- 14:14Speaker 4: actually happens. Totally, you're probably still feeling the sting from Christmas,
- 14:18Speaker 4: so set it up while it's still hurts, instead of
- 14:20Speaker 4: like letting it get to February or March and you're like,
- 14:23Speaker 4: I'll work it out later.
- 14:24Speaker 7: Yeah, totally.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Well, I that little preface was just to justify this
- 14:29Speaker 6: very Christmas paper tip from Katie. So we did mention this,
- 14:32Speaker 6: I think a couple of weeks ago. But Katy says,
- 14:35Speaker 6: buy a roll of brown paper from BGW and paint
- 14:37Speaker 6: your own wrapping paper. Kids love it, and my husband
- 14:39Speaker 6: and I are making a date night of it. How
- 14:42Speaker 6: cute painting paper for the gifts for each other this Christmas.
- 14:45Speaker 6: So I think that's a really really cute idea. And
- 14:48Speaker 6: obviously if you have.
- 14:50Speaker 4: The birthdays and stuff too. I have been using brown
- 14:52Speaker 4: paper for forever. I just changed the decoration that I
- 14:55Speaker 4: put on it. Right now, There's going to be so
- 14:57Speaker 4: many like Christmas bows and stuff that will be on
- 15:00Speaker 4: sale that you could use with brown paper for birthdays. Yes,
- 15:03Speaker 4: because like it, just because it's rare doesn't mean it
- 15:06Speaker 4: can't be used at a birthday.
- 15:07Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, Yeah, because there are other things you
- 15:12Speaker 6: need to wrap throughout the year. So yeah, just keep
- 15:14Speaker 6: that in mind for your also for your future Christmas self.
- 15:17Speaker 7: Okay, so this one I thought was really funny.
- 15:19Speaker 6: It's also quite Christmasy, but you can use this for
- 15:22Speaker 6: any other celebration, but keep it in mind for next Christmas.
- 15:26Speaker 6: So do a Secret Santa with strictly Facebook Marketplace freebies,
- 15:32Speaker 6: so you just like.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Yeah, iconic, terrifying.
- 15:35Speaker 6: Yeah, but you know, like there's also you know, gum
- 15:39Speaker 6: I don't know if anyone uses gum tree anymore.
- 15:41Speaker 2: But still around.
- 15:42Speaker 6: I still kind of use it, But gum Tree there's
- 15:46Speaker 6: a free section marketplace free section, just like it's like
- 15:50Speaker 6: the marketplace edition of Secret Santa.
- 15:53Speaker 7: So I think it's.
- 15:53Speaker 6: Really cute, really funny. Yeah, and you can get some
- 15:55Speaker 6: silly things all for free. We love free pair it
- 15:59Speaker 6: with your handmade brown paper perfect.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I love that. That's really cute.
- 16:05Speaker 4: All right, let's go to a really quick break because
- 16:07Speaker 4: on the flip side, we're going to be talking about
- 16:10Speaker 4: a money dilemma this week. We're talking investing for kids
- 16:14Speaker 4: and something that you slid into our DMS about. We're
- 16:16Speaker 4: going to be asking the question whether you should be
- 16:18Speaker 4: leaving your job after you didn't get the promotion you
- 16:21Speaker 4: went for. I feel like that could be spicy, like
- 16:24Speaker 4: could be good, could be bad.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe not.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Moving on, Welcome back, everybody, Let's take a listen to
- 16:37Speaker 5: this week's money dilemma.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma?
- 16:43Speaker 4: You just can't solve the sheese on The Money Team

- 16:51Speaker 4: career and life questions. To get involved, simply head to
- 16:54Speaker 4: our website and leave us a short voice recording and
- 16:57Speaker 4: you might just find yourself on the show. Now, let's
- 17:00Speaker 4: listen to this week's Money dilemma.
- 17:04Speaker 8: High Team Love the podcast. I've been listening through your
- 17:07Speaker 8: back catalog on investing for children, which has been super helpful,
- 17:11Speaker 8: but I was hoping you could give a bit more
- 17:13Speaker 8: information on the investment bond that you chose.
- 17:17Speaker 2: For Harvey Victoria.
- 17:19Speaker 8: I've had a Google and there seems to be a
- 17:21Speaker 8: lot of information on investment bonds, but none from I
- 17:24Speaker 8: guess providers that I recognize, and I don't know what
- 17:28Speaker 8: I should be looking for in terms of a reputable
- 17:30Speaker 8: investment bond or if there are specific brands that are
- 17:36Speaker 8: better than others depending on my needs. Hoping that you
- 17:41Speaker 8: could give a little bit more of an explainer on
- 17:44Speaker 8: how to choose an investment bond and what to look
- 17:46Speaker 8: for to set this up in the best possible way
- 17:50Speaker 8: for my kids.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Thanks so much, Ooh.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Spicy this is going to be some personal financial advice
- 17:56Speaker 4: which I'm legally not allowed to give.
- 17:59Speaker 2: So yeah, there is that.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's a fun conversation because and this
- 18:05Speaker 4: is why we have said, yeah, let's like answer this
- 18:07Speaker 4: on the pod, because I'm obviously not going to go, oh, hey, well,
- 18:10Speaker 4: the reputable one is X. There are a number of
- 18:13Speaker 4: reputable companies in Australia. As I've said on podcasts before, like,
- 18:18Speaker 4: I totally understand that you guys, and this is.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Like, I don't know. I feel like I'm being a gatekeeper.
- 18:23Speaker 4: And I promise I'm not trying to be a gatekeeper,
- 18:25Speaker 4: but I know that I'm a finance expert, like I
- 18:30Speaker 4: know that as a fact.
- 18:32Speaker 2: I also know that you guys are.
- 18:34Speaker 4: So kind and so nice and trust me so much
- 18:37Speaker 4: that if I shared the exact investment bond I have
- 18:40Speaker 4: for Harvey, You're just going to pick that one.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I know that's what's going to happen.
- 18:45Speaker 4: It happens in my team, it happens in my life
- 18:47Speaker 4: all the time, where I go I invest in X,
- 18:50Speaker 4: Y Z, and then someone will just pick that because
- 18:53Speaker 4: I picked that, and that doesn't mean it's the right
- 18:56Speaker 4: thing for you. So when you're looking into investment bonds.
- 18:59Speaker 4: There are lots of different, very reputable places that offer
- 19:03Speaker 4: them here in Australia.
- 19:04Speaker 9: Right.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I worked a couple of years.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Ago, now a year ago with Australian Unity, who are
- 19:10Speaker 4: most known for their superannuation. There is Gen Life, they
- 19:14Speaker 4: have a lot of investment bond products. They have a
- 19:17Speaker 4: child specific investment bond product. There's Centuria Capital, I DOUBLEF
- 19:23Speaker 4: you can even find some information on the ASX website
- 19:26Speaker 4: about it. I think it's all about finding a company
- 19:29Speaker 4: and then validating the information. So if you've never looked
- 19:34Speaker 4: into investment bonds, you're probably never going to have heard
- 19:37Speaker 4: of Generation Life, right, because they specialize in investment bonds.
- 19:42Speaker 4: So yeah, you might not have heard of the company,
- 19:44Speaker 4: but that doesn't mean they're not super legitimate. So I
- 19:47Speaker 4: think it's about then fact checking. You know, who's their CEO,
- 19:51Speaker 4: what happens, you know, how many customers do they have,
- 19:53Speaker 4: how long have they operated for? Like do you feel
- 19:55Speaker 4: comfortable with it? And I think for those of you
- 19:58Speaker 4: who haven't heard of anstment bond and investment bond is
- 20:03Speaker 4: a way that a lot of people, especially higher income earners,
- 20:07Speaker 4: find investing for kids quite attractive because an investment bond
- 20:13Speaker 4: is a tax paid investment, which means that the earnings
- 20:17Speaker 4: of that investment are actually taxed within the fund, so
- 20:22Speaker 4: they're not a part of your personal income tax and
- 20:25Speaker 4: you don't.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Have to pay it at your marginal tax.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Rate, which is very sexy, especially for those people who
- 20:30Speaker 4: earn those top brackets of marginal income. So does that
- 20:34Speaker 4: mean I can make a recommendation. Absolutely not. But I
- 20:37Speaker 4: think it's about doing your own research and starting to
- 20:40Speaker 4: look into options and like maybe make a spreadsheet right
- 20:44Speaker 4: down the ones that you're finding. But I'm not surprised
- 20:47Speaker 4: that you haven't heard of the companies that are offering
- 20:49Speaker 4: investment bonds because at the end of the day, a
- 20:52Speaker 4: lot of them, they're entire offering is bonds, So why
- 20:56Speaker 4: would you have engaged with that platform before.
- 20:59Speaker 2: So I'm not.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Surprised you've never heard of them, but if you started
- 21:02Speaker 4: to dig deeper. So for example, I'm just going to
- 21:05Speaker 4: ask you to have you heard of Generation Life before?
- 21:08Speaker 2: Literally?
- 21:08Speaker 1: Never?
- 21:08Speaker 8: Never?
- 21:09Speaker 3: Cool?
- 21:09Speaker 2: Have you heard of Grant Hackett before? Yes? Is that
- 21:12Speaker 2: a queer plus of some sort?
- 21:15Speaker 6: Yep?
- 21:15Speaker 2: Oh yeap, but you know the name right?
- 21:18Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 21:18Speaker 2: Cool? He's their ceosy. Yes, look at it.
- 21:22Speaker 4: So like the more you get into it, the more
- 21:24Speaker 4: you're going to learn about the platform and how that
- 21:28Speaker 4: works and go oh there are some names I understand.
- 21:31Speaker 4: So I think it's all about doing your research because
- 21:34Speaker 4: investment bonds they're not that talked about, but like they
- 21:36Speaker 4: are very.
- 21:37Speaker 5: Popular and if you do want to dive into the
- 21:39Speaker 5: archives a little bit like our listener, we'll pubblin in
- 21:41Speaker 5: the show notes to that episode on Investing VI Kids
- 21:43Speaker 5: where you chat about investment bonds.
- 21:45Speaker 4: At absolutely all, Right, let's move on because guys, obviously
- 21:50Speaker 4: we had a DM this week and I can't wait
- 21:52Speaker 4: to dive in and have a yap about it.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Are you ready?
- 21:55Speaker 7: Yes?
- 21:56Speaker 2: Okay, so this week we got a DM. Hey, she
- 21:59Speaker 2: is on the money.
- 22:00Speaker 4: I need your advice as I'm feeling stuck after a
- 22:02Speaker 4: tough year. I went through a promotion. I've been working
- 22:06Speaker 4: towards with extra hours and new responsibilities, and I've been
- 22:09Speaker 4: getting so much positive feedback, but i still didn't get it.
- 22:12Speaker 4: They gave it to someone else, and I'm left wondering
- 22:15Speaker 4: if I'm wasting my time. My husband says, the only
- 22:18Speaker 4: way to get ahead is to leave and start fresh
- 22:20Speaker 4: in the new year. But that idea feels overwhelming. I've
- 22:23Speaker 4: invested so much here and I'm scared leaving. We've been
- 22:27Speaker 4: throwing it all away. Maybe I'm holding myself back by
- 22:30Speaker 4: staying where I'm not valued. The new you feels like
- 22:33Speaker 4: a turning point, but I don't know which way to go.
- 22:37Speaker 2: What would you do?
- 22:39Speaker 6: This feels very similar to when I started working here.
- 22:42Speaker 7: Actually I was on reception and I really wanted to
- 22:45Speaker 7: get into.
- 22:45Speaker 6: Like the book at you working your way up thank You,
- 22:48Speaker 6: and I spent so much time. But you know, my
- 22:51Speaker 6: situation was different, I do want to say, because I
- 22:54Speaker 6: was at zero, like no quolls, no anything, and then
- 22:58Speaker 6: tried to work my way into video, which is very
- 23:00Speaker 6: you know, you would ideally have maybe a degree or something,
- 23:03Speaker 6: and so mine was different. But I remember going for
- 23:05Speaker 6: a few jobs and just I repeatedly got like really
- 23:09Speaker 6: good feedback and everyone was very impressed by like my
- 23:13Speaker 6: determination and all this kind of stuff. And I kept
- 23:16Speaker 6: getting really good feedback, but then not getting the job
- 23:18Speaker 6: and being like, I literally don't know what's happening. I'm
- 23:21Speaker 6: I'm about to walk out of here and just give
- 23:24Speaker 6: it all up. But I just you know, I think.
- 23:25Speaker 2: That she's a tenacious queen.
- 23:27Speaker 6: She's a tenacious queen.
- 23:28Speaker 7: Also, I was like, this really is it's who you know?
- 23:31Speaker 6: Because on my resume right now, no one else is
- 23:33Speaker 6: ever going to consider me for the same role.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Absolutely very sweet on freelance now too, sorry are you
- 23:39Speaker 4: not the video editor ones podcast?
- 23:42Speaker 1: I am?
- 23:43Speaker 5: Now?
- 23:43Speaker 6: I am?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Now I've really going to hire me? I'm sorry? Have
- 23:47Speaker 2: you not got a big job as well?
- 23:49Speaker 7: That's true, I should rephrase that.
- 23:50Speaker 6: I mean like at the time, I was more like
- 23:53Speaker 6: with my current you know, resume, and I was just like,
- 23:56Speaker 6: you know that that kind of thing isn't going to
- 23:58Speaker 6: be considered anywhere else. So for me, it was a
- 24:00Speaker 6: different I do want to say that also, I don't
- 24:02Speaker 6: know that this is necessary, but.
- 24:04Speaker 7: Getting ahead looks different for sometimes going to look different
- 24:07Speaker 7: for a man and a woman.
- 24:08Speaker 6: So I appreciate your husband's support, but it might look
- 24:11Speaker 6: a little bit different for you anyway. All I'm saying
- 24:15Speaker 6: is I would maybe talk to if it's possible, talk
- 24:18Speaker 6: to the person hiring or whoever you have a relationship
- 24:21Speaker 6: with there and express that you're probably going to It's
- 24:24Speaker 6: very normal to feel completely disenchanted by this point. And
- 24:27Speaker 6: be like, I actually just worn out now because I
- 24:30Speaker 6: keep getting told that I'm doing well why and my
- 24:33Speaker 6: not moving up? Maybe just like discussing that not in
- 24:36Speaker 6: like a way. It's like either give me a job
- 24:38Speaker 6: or I'm out of here, or give me a promotion
- 24:40Speaker 6: I'm or I'm out of here more. Just like I
- 24:42Speaker 6: think I have to cap myself at like I think
- 24:44Speaker 6: I'm going to give it six more months if nothing
- 24:46Speaker 6: really changes, unfortunately, I do have to like look elsewhere,
- 24:49Speaker 6: just kind of like I don't know, maybe if it's
- 24:50Speaker 6: a candid if you can have a candid chat with
- 24:53Speaker 6: someone about that, they might make them be like, oh crap,
- 24:56Speaker 6: we don't want to get rid of this person, and
- 24:57Speaker 6: we don't want to lose this person. But even for yourself,
- 25:00Speaker 6: maybe give yourself like a mental timeline and be like,
- 25:03Speaker 6: if by June next year nothing changes, or I'm not
- 25:06Speaker 6: even slightly closer, I'm gonna look elsewhere because I feel
- 25:11Speaker 6: like the experience someone else will sum there's someone out
- 25:14Speaker 6: there that's I I'll snap you up.
- 25:16Speaker 2: What do you reckon?
- 25:17Speaker 9: Jess?
- 25:18Speaker 5: I would seek feedback. I think, like to agree with
- 25:21Speaker 5: what you were saying back. I think it's really hard
- 25:23Speaker 5: when you're like, I feel like I'm doing all the
- 25:25Speaker 5: right things. I'm getting good feedback, I'm meeting my results,
- 25:28Speaker 5: I'm hitting my KPIs whatever that looks like for you.
- 25:30Speaker 5: I'm doing all the right things, but nothing is changing,
- 25:34Speaker 5: you know, And I can understand how for our listener
- 25:37Speaker 5: you would think, oh, but what else could I possibly do?
- 25:40Speaker 5: What else do you want from me? So I think
- 25:42Speaker 5: trying to get the feedback from whoever was hiring, or
- 25:45Speaker 5: from your manager, your head of department, whatever, and saying, hey, like,
- 25:49Speaker 5: what was the difference, like out of curiosity, like what
- 25:51Speaker 5: pushed this person over the edge versus me? Because obviously
- 25:54Speaker 5: it's hard outside looking in to know exactly what somebody
- 25:57Speaker 5: has going on, or what experience they've got or what
- 25:59Speaker 5: might have you know, maybe it's their personality, it could be,
- 26:02Speaker 5: as you were saying, in an element of who you know,
- 26:04Speaker 5: like it would be a miss to not acknowledge that that.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Is sometimes a factor.
- 26:09Speaker 5: So seeking feedback on what the difference is and saying, hey, like,
- 26:11Speaker 5: what do I need to do to get to xyzed?
- 26:13Speaker 5: I think setting like really measurable, attainable, actionable things for yourself.
- 26:18Speaker 5: With that being said, I kind of would echo what
- 26:21Speaker 5: your partner said, like, we've spoken about it before. You know,
- 26:23Speaker 5: it's people who change jobs every is it three years,
- 26:26Speaker 5: two to three years on average, earn more, receive more
- 26:30Speaker 5: promotions because they're moving outside of their bubble. And I
- 26:33Speaker 5: was walking to a friend about this recently. I think
- 26:35Speaker 5: that people, and I put myself very much in this bucket,
- 26:38Speaker 5: people who are risk adverse get in our own way.
- 26:43Speaker 5: I was reading a biography of a CEO and something
- 26:46Speaker 5: that I've seen in a lot of those you know, biographies,
- 26:49Speaker 5: in LinkedIn posts whatever, people reflecting on their experiences. It
- 26:53Speaker 5: seems to be that whether it's fate, whether it's luck,
- 26:56Speaker 5: whether it's just taking the chance, people who take risks
- 27:01Speaker 5: seem to go further. And that is maybe because they're
- 27:04Speaker 5: giving themselves the opportunity to do so. And as someone who,
- 27:06Speaker 5: as I said, is very risk adverse, I think we
- 27:10Speaker 5: have to acknowledge that in a sense, we took it
- 27:11Speaker 5: in our own way a little bit, and even our
- 27:13Speaker 5: listener was saying, oh, like, I don't want to throw
- 27:15Speaker 5: away the work that I've done. I don't want to
- 27:16Speaker 5: do these I don't want to do that. Whereas if
- 27:18Speaker 5: I think about the people that I know, like Vita,
- 27:21Speaker 5: you're a great example, like you'll just go, fine, we'll
- 27:23Speaker 5: figure it out, jump in feet first.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I scare her on a face. Honestly, you
- 27:29Speaker 4: can tell. And it's like not even a bad thing.
- 27:32Speaker 4: You can just tell the difference in personalities, like we're
- 27:35Speaker 4: both definitely type A, but we are both like I'm
- 27:39Speaker 4: happy to do a risk it for the biscuits, all good,
- 27:42Speaker 4: and just as like what you're doing you, I'm always
- 27:45Speaker 4: like it, Yes, we'll just jump and then we'll work
- 27:47Speaker 4: out what we do next.
- 27:48Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 27:49Speaker 5: But it's it's people like you, and I know quite
- 27:51Speaker 5: a few people who have that same kind of attribute.
- 27:54Speaker 5: And it seems to me, just as an outsider looking in,
- 27:57Speaker 5: like sometimes you do just need to go. I'll figure
- 27:59Speaker 5: it out, like I'm just going to do it and
- 28:01Speaker 5: I'll figure it out. And I know that's easier said
- 28:03Speaker 5: than done, because me, it is easy.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I can't imagine. No, no, you can't be doing that.
- 28:08Speaker 2: But it's just it's fruit for thought. I suppose it
- 28:10Speaker 2: is what I would say, Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 28:11Speaker 4: I think when I look at this, like jumping a
- 28:16Speaker 4: little bit ahead, we asked the question would missing out
- 28:19Speaker 4: on a promotion, make you value your worth an eighty
- 28:23Speaker 4: two percent of you said yes, and that's obvious in
- 28:25Speaker 4: your DM. So you've said, yeah, like, I'm starting to
- 28:29Speaker 4: feel undervalued, and you know, obviously I don't know your
- 28:33Speaker 4: your situation. It could be super corporate, and yeah, maybe
- 28:35Speaker 4: you do feel undervalued, and I don't want to undermine
- 28:37Speaker 4: that at all. But I then look at it and say,
- 28:40Speaker 4: you know, let's say there was a role that both
- 28:42Speaker 4: you two wanted to go for, so Beg you're up
- 28:45Speaker 4: for it, and Jes you're up for it. Because I've
- 28:46Speaker 4: I've only got one role in my business.
- 28:49Speaker 2: That doesn't actually mean that I.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Undervalue both of you or undervalue the one that didn't
- 28:54Speaker 4: take that role. Like it can be really hard as
- 28:57Speaker 4: the hiring manager to go, okay, cool, like there's this
- 29:01Speaker 4: job going at this workplace. Say it's like, you know,
- 29:04Speaker 4: head honcho of X y Z, and Jess really wants it,
- 29:08Speaker 4: like she's been working in partnerships for ages and Beck
- 29:11Speaker 4: you've been working in video for ages and you both
- 29:13Speaker 4: want it, and you bring different skill sets to the table.
- 29:16Speaker 4: And sometimes it genuinely comes down to how you interviewed,
- 29:20Speaker 4: not necessarily the above and the beyond, like, and you
- 29:23Speaker 4: know what Jess has done in her role and off,
- 29:25Speaker 4: she's been here longer than you, Beck, so she should
- 29:27Speaker 4: get like, it's not about that. Sometimes it's literally, Okay,
- 29:30Speaker 4: we're going to do a interview.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Jess, you're going to interview for it. Beck, you're going
- 29:35Speaker 2: to interview for it.
- 29:36Speaker 4: And maybe one of you just performed better in that interview.
- 29:39Speaker 4: It doesn't mean that your employer doesn't value you. I
- 29:42Speaker 4: think that it makes me a bit sad to think
- 29:46Speaker 4: that because of the outcome, you see yourself as less
- 29:49Speaker 4: or that somebody else might see you as less, And
- 29:52Speaker 4: that's not the case at all, because, like I can
- 29:54Speaker 4: almost guarantee your situation, Beck, the jobs that you weren't getting,
- 29:57Speaker 4: Like if you had asked for feedback and said, hey,
- 30:00Speaker 4: i'd love some feedback about why this person got it,
- 30:03Speaker 4: they would have been able to put some real tangible
- 30:05Speaker 4: things on the table that you could have then worked towards.
- 30:09Speaker 4: So it could have been, oh, well, actually i'm sorry
- 30:11Speaker 4: you didn't get the video producer rollback because actually we
- 30:14Speaker 4: had somebody who had a seasoned career in video production
- 30:18Speaker 4: and had done a B C DNE and you're a
- 30:21Speaker 4: fantastic human being. We don't undervalue you, but you wouldn't
- 30:25Speaker 4: be able to bring those things to that job. And
- 30:28Speaker 4: so in this particular occasion when we were comparing apples
- 30:31Speaker 4: with apples for the job, that square fit better in
- 30:34Speaker 4: that square peg hole than your round peg. And sometimes
- 30:38Speaker 4: it's just not the right time, it's not the right fit.
- 30:41Speaker 4: And it really, I know, probably is just me being
- 30:43Speaker 4: like we deserve better, like we should value ourselves. I
- 30:46Speaker 4: don't think that your value is diminished because you didn't
- 30:48Speaker 4: get a job.
- 30:49Speaker 2: I think we need to reframe it.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Do what you said, let's ask for some feedback, Like
- 30:53Speaker 4: I want some tangible feedback as to why I didn't
- 30:55Speaker 4: get it. I'm not salty about this, but I want
- 30:58Speaker 4: to know so that I can do better, or I
- 31:00Speaker 4: can go and study, or I can, you know, take
- 31:02Speaker 4: on some more responsibilities that work, so next time I
- 31:04Speaker 4: go for the job, I am the perfect candidate. I
- 31:07Speaker 4: also just think we should be backing ourselves. Do you
- 31:10Speaker 4: know how hard it is to put your hand up
- 31:11Speaker 4: for a promotion, be like, hey, I'd really like to
- 31:14Speaker 4: be considered for X, y Z. Like you've gotten out
- 31:17Speaker 4: of that experience, some more experience you've got, you know,
- 31:20Speaker 4: the ability to interview more confidently next time. You've already
- 31:24Speaker 4: shown to your leaders that you are you willing to
- 31:27Speaker 4: put yourself out there. Not many people do that, and
- 31:30Speaker 4: I think that we just you're not giving yourself enough credit.
- 31:33Speaker 4: But then obviously there's that overlay that you're talking about, Jess,
- 31:36Speaker 4: where you know, sometimes you do have to leave your
- 31:38Speaker 4: bubble to make it bigger. But I also just really
- 31:43Speaker 4: want to reiterate that sometimes the bubble's not undervaluing you,
- 31:46Speaker 4: you're just in the wrong space for what you're trying
- 31:49Speaker 4: to achieve.
- 31:51Speaker 5: Very good point, but if you are like if you
- 31:53Speaker 5: have applied for a lot of I think they were
- 31:54Speaker 5: saying they've applied for a lot of promotions, and you know,
- 31:57Speaker 5: if you are feeling that way, I think also you know,
- 32:00Speaker 5: once you know what you need to do, you can
- 32:02Speaker 5: decide whether or not that's right for you. And if
- 32:04Speaker 5: it's not, like maybe you can go and find somewhere.
- 32:07Speaker 4: And like, I don't want to say this to both
- 32:10Speaker 4: of you right now, but like, what's the harm in
- 32:13Speaker 4: having a conversation with a recruiter?
- 32:15Speaker 2: Where's the harm?
- 32:16Speaker 6: Like totally I don't know, Like, yeah, you know.
- 32:19Speaker 4: If you're not super happy, go fishing, that's fine.
- 32:26Speaker 6: Home, keep your eyes, have a little brows on seek
- 32:30Speaker 6: like there's no harm in just like having.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Have a little peak.
- 32:33Speaker 4: But what you're saying is you haven't given me enough context.
- 32:37Speaker 4: So I'm assuming you don't have that answer because you
- 32:39Speaker 4: said they gave it to someone else, And now I'm
- 32:41Speaker 4: now wondering if I.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Wasted my time.
- 32:43Speaker 4: You would not be saying you wasted your time if
- 32:46Speaker 4: someone turned around and said, oh my god, did you
- 32:48Speaker 4: know that Jess actually has been doing partnerships for three
- 32:51Speaker 4: years and like she can bring x y z ah,
- 32:54Speaker 4: I didn't waste my time at all, Like, I'm just
- 32:57Speaker 4: really glad Jess got that opportunity or vice versa. Like
- 32:59Speaker 4: if went for a video production role and you got it,
- 33:02Speaker 4: she'd be like, but I'm really passionate about it. I'd
- 33:04Speaker 4: be like, but did you know Beck's been doing xbos?
- 33:06Speaker 4: Like you just don't know what you don't know?
- 33:08Speaker 6: And also, no experience is a waste of time. Arguably
- 33:11Speaker 6: exactly theory, but that's a story for another time.
- 33:15Speaker 2: You never wasting your time when everyone else say so.
- 33:17Speaker 4: Back to the question, Yeah, we did ask our community
- 33:19Speaker 4: a few questions. I read out this one before. Would
- 33:21Speaker 4: missing out on a promotion make you value worth?
- 33:23Speaker 2: Eighty two percent of you said yes, I get that.
- 33:26Speaker 4: Eighteen percent of you said nope, one promotion doesn't define me.
- 33:30Speaker 2: That's the energy we want to bring into next year.
- 33:33Speaker 2: We then asked the.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Question what is more important to you? Forty nine percent
- 33:38Speaker 4: of you said stability, security matters more, and fifty one
- 33:42Speaker 4: percent of you said, my career growth.
- 33:43Speaker 2: The risk is worth it.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Yeah, even split some of you address some of you
- 33:48Speaker 4: are victoria. We then said, all right, we're gonna need
- 33:52Speaker 4: your two cents. What does that look like? And we
- 33:56Speaker 4: had a lot of colorful conversation. So someone said, I
- 34:00Speaker 4: missed out on a promotion recently too. I didn't interview
- 34:03Speaker 4: well on the day it happens.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's true.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Someone else said, maybe the other person was just better.
- 34:09Speaker 4: It doesn't mean you weren't good.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Just keep going. Yeah.
- 34:13Speaker 4: Another person said, company loyalty is not rewarded for career
- 34:18Speaker 4: growth and better pay. Change your job often, that's what
- 34:21Speaker 4: the stats say. Someone else said, what's more important? Neither
- 34:25Speaker 4: of those options? Flexibility, job satisfaction.
- 34:27Speaker 2: And work life balance. I like that.
- 34:29Speaker 4: Yes, another person said, I think it's important to ask
- 34:32Speaker 4: for feedback before spiraling into why not me and I'm
- 34:35Speaker 4: not valued fair? Yeah, that's where I'm sitting. Someone else said,
- 34:39Speaker 4: speak to your superiors about how you're feeling right now.
- 34:42Speaker 4: And someone else said, I'm actually in this spot right now,
- 34:45Speaker 4: and sadly, I'm probably going to choose the stability right
- 34:48Speaker 4: now because my mortgage is expensive and cost of living.
- 34:51Speaker 2: That's totally valid.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Yeah, someone else said, they're on your page, Beck, They
- 34:56Speaker 4: said the sunk cost fallacy effect. Think about what they've
- 34:59Speaker 4: given you versus your output.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Maybe it's time to go. Ah, well I was.
- 35:04Speaker 4: I was saying this on a podcast the other a
- 35:07Speaker 4: little while ago. Actually, I shared a quote that I
- 35:09Speaker 4: believe my dad told me. He said that if you
- 35:11Speaker 4: don't get off the train soon, the return ticket's going
- 35:14Speaker 4: to cost you a lot more.
- 35:16Speaker 7: Oh that is a great.
- 35:18Speaker 4: And I was like, oh, it's true, Like, yeah, I
- 35:21Speaker 4: might have already paid for the train ticket, but like
- 35:23Speaker 4: it's the wrong train, So if I don't get off now.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Can take you on going to get that, it's going
- 35:27Speaker 2: to take me longer. It's going to be more expensive
- 35:29Speaker 2: to get back. Like I like that. Yeah, I like
- 35:32Speaker 2: isn't it cute? Yeah, Eric strapping the truth Bob exactly.
- 35:36Speaker 4: Someone else said same situation four weeks later, though new
- 35:40Speaker 4: job closer.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Fancy a title forty grand more. Take the risks great,
- 35:46Speaker 2: So I'll leave it there. I won't read out anymore.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I feel like that's a good place to leave it.
- 35:50Speaker 7: Yeah, that's great.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Should we get into the blue?
- 35:53Speaker 9: Oh?
- 35:54Speaker 2: I cannot scate. I cannot waste scared. I was scared embarrassing.
- 36:01Speaker 5: You a lot of stuff Like you guys hear such
- 36:03Speaker 5: a polished, lovely episode because our incredible team make it so.
- 36:07Speaker 4: But oh my god, we are unhinged and probably shouldn't
- 36:13Speaker 4: be on the airwaves sometimes abstely.
- 36:16Speaker 2: That roll the tape.
- 36:21Speaker 9: Well, it's been another great year if she's on the
- 36:23Speaker 9: money for twenty twenty four. And trust me when I
- 36:26Speaker 9: say that, as always, things were a lot more chaotic
- 36:29Speaker 9: behind the scenes.
- 36:31Speaker 5: This did my eyes like get stuck together because I
- 36:35Speaker 5: got that out.
- 36:36Speaker 2: That was not good content.
- 36:37Speaker 9: Besides the chaos, you'll be happy to hear that not
- 36:39Speaker 9: a lot has changed. Victoria still has a favorite time
- 36:42Speaker 9: of the day.
- 36:43Speaker 2: She could have got more, but at the end of
- 36:45Speaker 2: the day, at the end of the day.
- 36:46Speaker 4: You know what, it is subjective, but at the end
- 36:48Speaker 4: of the day, I just think everything you do is
- 36:49Speaker 4: good because even if at the end of the day,
- 36:52Speaker 4: the end of the day they're is service.
- 36:54Speaker 9: Jess is still so sure of civil rights that she'd
- 36:56Speaker 9: make a great private detective. And we discovered this when
- 36:59Speaker 9: she was looking through photos on her phone for the
- 37:02Speaker 9: next money Winner of the Week.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Thank you that that's a photo of a truck that
- 37:06Speaker 2: was taila he had no breaklat.
- 37:12Speaker 9: Beck still thinks that the microphones can't hear her if
- 37:14Speaker 9: she whispers, what.
- 37:16Speaker 2: If you got better whispering in case anybody?
- 37:23Speaker 9: And Lucy is still wandering the halls of the building
- 37:26Speaker 9: while the girls record.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Like all those kinds of things impact your credit squols,
- 37:30Speaker 5: door opening or am I am I having a stroke?
- 37:33Speaker 5: Did that? I'm wearing my contacts, so I'm like, I
- 37:37Speaker 5: can't tell if it's like it was Lucy.
- 37:44Speaker 9: But there have been some changes too. Beck has started
- 37:48Speaker 9: to think everyone is psychic and knows what she's trying
- 37:50Speaker 9: to say.
- 37:51Speaker 7: So I went through and I had what's a word?
- 37:54Speaker 6: What's the word?
- 37:54Speaker 2: I don't know. You're telling your story, not me, babycakes.
- 37:58Speaker 7: You know, there's so many like reads that are.
- 38:00Speaker 10: Like no, it's Jess may have a secret identity homereak, which.
- 38:17Speaker 9: You are, and Victoria's mumbrain is keeping us in overdrive
- 38:23Speaker 9: to ensure nothing dirty ends up on the show.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Maybe Jess needs a job and she's on the money
- 38:27Speaker 4: and it could be V in two j's.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Your face? Just why was that funny?
- 38:36Speaker 3: It's loadly.
- 38:40Speaker 9: Jess is also doing that. She just doesn't have an excuse.
- 38:43Speaker 5: I switched to amaze him after being loyal to a
- 38:45Speaker 5: big tail.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Come sorry.
- 38:49Speaker 9: Overall, it's been a great year for She's on the money,
- 38:52Speaker 9: or as V would call it.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Hi, she's on the funny.
- 39:02Speaker 7: Oh my god, that's really actually crying.
- 39:06Speaker 4: I am actually low key disappointed that Sam didn't pull
- 39:10Speaker 4: together more of your private detective work.
- 39:12Speaker 2: You are always talking. It's been a good year, guys.
- 39:16Speaker 2: It has been a good year.
- 39:18Speaker 7: Yeah, it's been really fun. I love you guys.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I love doing this. It is so fun, even if
- 39:25Speaker 2: we sometimes don't have the words or the brains. Apparently,
- 39:30Speaker 2: according to.
- 39:31Speaker 7: Me, nothing funny than when someone miss mess the word.
- 39:34Speaker 7: Usually it's yes, I want to say. Usually it's yes, yes,
- 39:41Speaker 7: here is the kettle black. That's very true.
- 39:47Speaker 2: You haven't stopped whispering into my corn that no one
- 39:49Speaker 2: knows what.
- 39:52Speaker 9: Yes.
- 39:52Speaker 6: On that note, let's go for a fantastic year, guys.
- 39:55Speaker 2: It's been a time. See next year, guys. Bye bye.
