- 1:06Speaker 3: down with one of our incredible She's on the money
- 1:08Speaker 3: community members and talking to them all about their journey.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Let's jump straight into it, because this week I got
- 1:13Speaker 3: a message and it sounded exactly like this high She's
- 1:17Speaker 3: on the money. Buckle up. I thought I had my
- 1:20Speaker 3: future secured, a new home, a wedding, and a life
- 1:23Speaker 3: with my fiance. While I was in the thick of
- 1:26Speaker 3: a six month stint of my master's placement. He walked
- 1:30Speaker 3: out on a random Tuesday, leaving me to sell our
- 1:33Speaker 3: house and cancel a wedding that was only six months away.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I lost over thirty thousand dollars in wedding deposits and
- 1:40Speaker 3: almost everything I had spent six years saving for. It
- 1:43Speaker 3: was the world's most expensive lesson in why you should
- 1:46Speaker 3: never consolidate your finances with a man without a backup plan.
- 1:50Speaker 3: But I rebuilt. Since then, I've secured graduate roles, built
- 1:54Speaker 3: a successful career, and achieved financial independence. Today I earn
- 1:59Speaker 3: more than ever, with over one hundred and fifty thousand
- 2:02Speaker 3: dollars saved and twenty grand invested, all in my own name.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Money dorist be so for real?
- 2:08Speaker 2: It is crazy? What the heck? How? How when where
- 2:12Speaker 2: like oh so many questions. It's so funny like listening
- 2:15Speaker 2: to that and thinking, oh, that was my life at
- 2:18Speaker 2: one point. It's just wild.
- 2:21Speaker 3: And you know what, I know that you were probably
- 2:23Speaker 3: so excited to marry that man because like, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: that was what you were working towards. But now you
- 2:30Speaker 3: look back on it, you're like, thank god he walked out,
- 2:32Speaker 3: Like thank god.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so funny, like thinking when you're in it,
- 2:37Speaker 2: it's just your whole world's kind of like crumbling. You're
- 2:40Speaker 2: in almost like a black hole, being swallowed by the world,
- 2:44Speaker 2: and then you come out of it and you're like, oh, Okay,
- 2:46Speaker 2: everything happens for a reason.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that's crazy. Al Right, let's jump into it. First question,
- 2:50Speaker 3: I've got money, Darist. What grade would you give your
- 2:53Speaker 3: money habits? If I asked you to give them a grade.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I would probably say I'd be a bee no plus.
- 2:59Speaker 1: No.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Girl, you've got one hundred and fifty grand saved after
- 3:02Speaker 3: you kicked some men to the curb. And I know
- 3:04Speaker 3: he quote walked out, but like, I just feel like
- 3:07Speaker 3: he's the one missing out here. Tell me a little
- 3:10Speaker 3: bit more about your money story, though. I want the
- 3:13Speaker 3: nitty gritty and the things that impacted it.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, So, I mean my money story, I guess starts
- 3:18Speaker 2: like anyone else's money wasn't really spoken about growing up,
- 3:23Speaker 2: but like we had it. It wasn't you know. We
- 3:27Speaker 2: weren't fighting for our lives or anything like that. We
- 3:29Speaker 2: were very lucky. Me and my sister went to a
- 3:32Speaker 2: prestigious private school around the area. And I remember like
- 3:36Speaker 2: seeing my parents, you know, kind of where the same
- 3:38Speaker 2: winter woolies for years and years and years. And I
- 3:41Speaker 2: remember having a conversation. I was just going into year eleven,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and I said, you know, I don't really want to
- 3:46Speaker 2: be here anymore, Like I'm sick of the school. I
- 3:48Speaker 2: don't really. I was very different to everybody else, I
- 3:51Speaker 2: guess because I couldn't do the things that they were
- 3:54Speaker 2: all doing. We didn't really have the money for it.
- 3:56Speaker 2: But I remember my parents saying, you know, if there's
- 3:59Speaker 2: anything that we can give you in life, you know,
- 4:02Speaker 2: we won't give you a brand new car. We're not
- 4:03Speaker 2: going to be able to give you a deposit for
- 4:05Speaker 2: a house or anything like that, but we want to
- 4:07Speaker 2: give you a good education. And looking back on it now,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I'm thinking, like those were their values. You know, it
- 4:14Speaker 2: was good like we we got a good education, we
- 4:16Speaker 2: got a good upbringing. We never struggled, but we also
- 4:19Speaker 2: never really saw the extent of it either. Like I
- 4:22Speaker 2: know that money was there, but then it wasn't there,
- 4:25Speaker 2: but then it was there again. So I guess I
- 4:27Speaker 2: kind of always had that growing up, like I needed
- 4:32Speaker 2: to hold onto money. So I got a job very
- 4:34Speaker 2: very early. I think I was thirteen when I got
- 4:37Speaker 2: my first job at Donut King.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Yeah, very cool.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I was making like eight dollars an hour or something ridiculous.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah, but also like donut King's cool, like that being
- 4:46Speaker 3: a first job, Like I think I would have thought
- 4:48Speaker 3: that you were the coolest kid at school.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I have unlimited cinnamon donuts. Might see a good deal,
- 4:53Speaker 2: great deal, it was quite good. But yeah, no, I've
- 4:56Speaker 2: never been out of a job since. So I've always
- 4:59Speaker 2: kind of held onto my money. I've always saved and
- 5:04Speaker 2: I did like end up, you know, buying my first car,
- 5:06Speaker 2: achieving all the things that I kind of wanted to do.
- 5:09Speaker 2: And then I had met my ex partner when I
- 5:11Speaker 2: was about eighteen, so I was fresh out of school,
- 5:15Speaker 2: just a baby. Yeah, I was really little. He was
- 5:18Speaker 2: twenty at the time, so we only had a two
- 5:20Speaker 2: year age gap, and I had taken the gap year
- 5:24Speaker 2: to just kind of work a little bit. I was
- 5:26Speaker 2: a bit burned out after you know, the end time
- 5:29Speaker 2: of school, like my school experience. So I was working,
- 5:33Speaker 2: and I remember we sat down and it was probably
- 5:36Speaker 2: from this point on, money kind of became a conversation
- 5:39Speaker 2: that we would have quite often, so it was very
- 5:42Speaker 2: embedded into our relationships, which was, I guess a good thing,
- 5:45Speaker 2: but also turned out to be a bad thing towards
- 5:49Speaker 2: the end because the focus was just always on money.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And we sat down and I was saying, you know,
- 5:55Speaker 2: I really want to buy an investment property, Like that's
- 5:57Speaker 2: what I want to do. That's my next kind of goal.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And he had said, well, you know, like you were
- 6:02Speaker 2: just a baby.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Yeah I was.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I guess I just wanted to Like I keep saying that,
- 6:07Speaker 2: but you were so.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Young, and you're like, Nope, I want to buy an
- 6:09Speaker 3: investment property. That's my goal. Like to me, that's crazy
- 6:12Speaker 3: in the best possible way.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I had big dreams, I had big
- 6:16Speaker 2: goals and I was just really motivated. So yeah, he said, oh, well,
- 6:20Speaker 2: let's just let's do it together. And I said, okay, Yeah,
- 6:24Speaker 2: I could do that. He's like, why would you buy
- 6:26Speaker 2: an apartment when you can buy a house, Like we
- 6:27Speaker 2: can go in together, we can it could be great.
- 6:30Speaker 2: So we did.
- 6:31Speaker 3: We saved, and like in theory, that makes sense if
- 6:34Speaker 3: you were going to be together forever. Like when my husband,
- 6:38Speaker 3: you know, was my boyfriend and he suggested that we
- 6:40Speaker 3: buy a house together, I was like, yeah, great, I
- 6:43Speaker 3: would love to, Like I didn't question it, and I.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Think like growing up, like my parents never had like
- 6:48Speaker 2: his money, her money, so it was just like normal
- 6:51Speaker 2: to have, you know, Okay, yeah, we'll consolidate all of
- 6:53Speaker 2: our savings. We'll you know, spend the money that we
- 6:56Speaker 2: earned together, like it's not separate. So that's what we did.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We consolidated our finances and we were saving for a
- 7:04Speaker 2: house and COVID hit, so he had ended up moving
- 7:06Speaker 2: into my parents' house. I think like everyone kind of
- 7:10Speaker 2: did at the time, and then we pretty much saved.
- 7:14Speaker 2: So I went back to UNI after my gap year
- 7:18Speaker 2: and I did my undergraduate. I had two jobs at
- 7:20Speaker 2: the time, just kind of like trying to save, and
- 7:23Speaker 2: I always felt like the owners was on me. So
- 7:26Speaker 2: even though he was making quite a bit more than me,
- 7:28Speaker 2: he had his own business. He was a tradee. There
- 7:31Speaker 2: was always the owners was on me. I needed to
- 7:33Speaker 2: put money in, I needed to, you know, still have
- 7:36Speaker 2: money to spend at the end of the week. I
- 7:38Speaker 2: couldn't ask him for money type of thing, if that
- 7:42Speaker 2: makes sense. So yes, I always felt like I had
- 7:45Speaker 2: to work and I was just doing ridiculous hours, Like
- 7:48Speaker 2: I was working at a pub during my time at UNI,
- 7:52Speaker 2: So I would work from five o'clock in the afternoon
- 7:55Speaker 2: to three o'clock in the morning, go to UNI, come home,
- 7:59Speaker 2: do the same thing again.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Oh my goodness.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And that was just to save as much money as
- 8:02Speaker 2: I possibly could, you know. So anyways, we ended up
- 8:06Speaker 2: getting engaged, and I think you just always have like
- 8:08Speaker 2: this gut feeling right like we were having problems before,
- 8:12Speaker 2: just like anyone else in a relationship. Black problems exist,
- 8:15Speaker 2: And just before we had got engaged, I remember just
- 8:19Speaker 2: thinking to myself, like, I don't know if I really
- 8:20Speaker 2: want to be with this person for the rest of
- 8:22Speaker 2: my life. Awkward, Yeah, very awkward because within like two
- 8:28Speaker 2: weeks after that, he had proposed to me. So we
- 8:31Speaker 2: went on this really extravagant overseas died.
- 8:35Speaker 3: What do you do at that point.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah, literally, I'm like, oh, okay, so I'm not going
- 8:41Speaker 2: to say no obviously, you Like, I think there was
- 8:44Speaker 2: just a very long period of my life between when
- 8:48Speaker 2: I guess from when we got engaged to when we
- 8:50Speaker 2: had split, where it was just constantly, like my gut
- 8:52Speaker 2: saying no. But it was always going to get better,
- 8:55Speaker 2: you know, like we'll get engaged, it'll get better. We'll
- 8:57Speaker 2: buy a house, it'll get better, we'll get married, it'll
- 8:59Speaker 2: get better. Kind of never got better. So, yes, we
- 9:04Speaker 2: got engaged, and then I had started my master's degree,
- 9:08Speaker 2: which was really really intense. It was four days a
- 9:12Speaker 2: week from eight o'clock to four pm. Goodness, So it
- 9:15Speaker 2: was practically a full time job almost.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, of course. So and just like so mentally
- 9:20Speaker 3: demanding as well, Like I think people are quite like
- 9:24Speaker 3: that's not the worst thing in the world, but it's
- 9:25Speaker 3: also just like you're constantly trying to like jump hoops
- 9:30Speaker 3: and learn new tasks. It's not like going to work
- 9:33Speaker 3: nine to five mon day to Friday and you know
- 9:35Speaker 3: how to do those tasks. Like you are consistently learning
- 9:38Speaker 3: something new and your brain is just get overloaded. As
- 9:41Speaker 3: someone who's been there, I get it.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Yeah, there were so many times I was just thinking,
- 9:45Speaker 2: I don't want to do this anymore, Like I just
- 9:48Speaker 2: I don't have the brain capacity to do it. But
- 9:50Speaker 2: I always wanted to do it. And my professions the
- 9:53Speaker 2: type of profession where if you don't have your master's degree,
- 9:56Speaker 2: you don't have anything, like you can't get a credit
- 10:00Speaker 2: unless you have your master's degree. So I had to
- 10:02Speaker 2: do it. So I would, you know, go to UNI,
- 10:06Speaker 2: come home from UNI, and then go work a five
- 10:08Speaker 2: to three shift at the pub, and then do it
- 10:10Speaker 2: all over again. And he had said to me, all right,
- 10:14Speaker 2: times right, we're getting married in I think it was
- 10:16Speaker 2: probably a year out. We need to buy a house.
- 10:20Speaker 2: So again that like gut feeling, I don't really want
- 10:23Speaker 2: to do it, but we did it anyways. I didn't
- 10:26Speaker 2: want to do it only because the second half of
- 10:28Speaker 2: my degree I had to go and do six months
- 10:30Speaker 2: of clinical placement and then six months of a thesis
- 10:34Speaker 2: as well, So I kind of again had the feeling
- 10:38Speaker 2: of I'm going to have to really work hard. The
- 10:41Speaker 2: onus was on me again. I always felt like I
- 10:44Speaker 2: had to pay. He never, you know, would I guess
- 10:47Speaker 2: offer to pay for anything. So I was thinking okay,
- 10:52Speaker 2: we'll do it. I'll just manage, like I'll just save
- 10:55Speaker 2: it is what it is. So we did, We bought
- 10:58Speaker 2: the house. We went away on a holiday, and I
- 11:02Speaker 2: think things were quite rocky at the time when away
- 11:05Speaker 2: on a holiday, came back and he had said that
- 11:09Speaker 2: he was going to leave, and this was just like
- 11:11Speaker 2: a constant kind of thing, and this time I just said,
- 11:14Speaker 2: you know what, just go, like, just go.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Like was that something where he was just lauding that
- 11:19Speaker 3: over your head like if you had a fight, he'd
- 11:21Speaker 3: be like, oh, break up with you kind of viable,
- 11:23Speaker 3: Like yeah, like what did that look like?
- 11:25Speaker 2: We would have a fight and that would just the
- 11:27Speaker 2: bags would come out and it's I'm going and i'd
- 11:29Speaker 2: you know, sit there and go, no, don't leave, Please,
- 11:32Speaker 2: don't leave me, and then yeah, I love you.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I'm you know, diluted, and also just know.
- 11:38Speaker 2: What, I know, Yeah, I think I just got to
- 11:41Speaker 2: the point where I was like, you know what, I
- 11:43Speaker 2: just I don't care anymore. Just go. Yeah. So he did.
- 11:46Speaker 2: He left. Funnally enough, came back not that long after,
- 11:50Speaker 2: and we were fined for months. We were good. We
- 11:53Speaker 2: worked things out, you know, our wedding was only six
- 11:56Speaker 2: months away, like, you know, it was all happening. It
- 11:59Speaker 2: was I had spent thirty thousand dollars of my own
- 12:04Speaker 2: money for the deposits on the wedding. He didn't spend
- 12:08Speaker 2: a cent. It was all wine.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Why wasn't he putting cash into this? Like where was
- 12:13Speaker 3: his contribution and why wasn't that being questioned? So he
- 12:17Speaker 3: owned his own business, so it was the business money,
- 12:20Speaker 3: and then it was our money, and that was it.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Does that make sense?
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yes, I kind of get it, But also like, why
- 12:30Speaker 3: wasn't money being taken out of the business for his contributions?
- 12:33Speaker 2: It just never was. It was just never spoken about.
- 12:35Speaker 2: It was never an option.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I'm always so suspicious.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah it was. It was never an option. It was
- 12:40Speaker 2: just like that was the way that it was, you know.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So I did end up spending quite a bit of
- 12:46Speaker 2: money on that wedding. And then yeah, he messaged me
- 12:51Speaker 2: on a Tuesday morning. I remember being in the thick
- 12:53Speaker 2: of placement and it was so exhausting as well, because
- 12:57Speaker 2: again I was working, and then pretty much my Friday, Saturday, Sundays,
- 13:01Speaker 2: I was working again, so I just didn't get a break,
- 13:05Speaker 2: and the first half the week was unpaid anyway, so
- 13:08Speaker 2: I wasn't making any money, and it was all just
- 13:11Speaker 2: going to the house, going to the house, going to
- 13:13Speaker 2: the house. I had no money at this point. After
- 13:16Speaker 2: the deposit was paid for the house, our payments started
- 13:19Speaker 2: coming out for the house, and then all my money
- 13:21Speaker 2: was gone to the wedding. I really had nothing. I
- 13:24Speaker 2: had an emergency fund, which was, I guess a good thing,
- 13:27Speaker 2: but that was only five thousand dollars and it didn't
- 13:30Speaker 2: really get me too far. I remember getting that message
- 13:34Speaker 2: and I looked at my phone and I just ignored it,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and I thought, I'm not dealing with this right now.
- 13:40Speaker 2: The message said, I'm packing my bags. I'll be gone
- 13:43Speaker 2: by this afternoon. Take care of canceling the wedding, and
- 13:47Speaker 2: take care of the sale of the house.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Where was this man going, Like, why did he get
- 13:51Speaker 3: to walk out? What's going on here? I'm very confused
- 13:54Speaker 3: about his audacity.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Well, at this point, I don't know. I was blindsided
- 13:59Speaker 2: to this. I still don't really understand it. I don't
- 14:02Speaker 2: understand the capacity.
- 14:02Speaker 3: I have never explained it.
- 14:04Speaker 2: No, he just left.
- 14:06Speaker 3: He just said I'm done. I'm leaving. Also, all of
- 14:09Speaker 3: this is up to you now.
- 14:10Speaker 2: I mean, the dots kind of connected after the fact,
- 14:13Speaker 2: but yes, at the time, just walked out and I
- 14:17Speaker 2: said that's fine, Like, I'll see you when I get
- 14:20Speaker 2: home and then you can go on your way whatever
- 14:22Speaker 2: you want to do. You want to do, So, yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 2: got home. He asked where the ring was. I told
- 14:28Speaker 2: him he took that, and then he said, are you
- 14:31Speaker 2: able to deal with the wedding and also deal with
- 14:35Speaker 2: the sale of the house. And I said, well no,
- 14:38Speaker 2: I was already embarrassed. Obviously we were so close to
- 14:40Speaker 2: the you know, the wedding happening. Everyone was excited for
- 14:43Speaker 2: this big wedding. And I said, well, no, you can
- 14:47Speaker 2: message all the vendors and cancel it and I'll deal
- 14:51Speaker 2: with the sale of house. That's fine. I'm happy to
- 14:53Speaker 2: deal with that. And yeah, I think the sale of
- 14:56Speaker 2: the house probably took about six months to sell. And
- 14:59Speaker 2: he I wanted to settle on thirty thousand dollars less
- 15:03Speaker 2: than what we paid for it, just to kind of
- 15:04Speaker 2: get it out of the way. And again I said no,
- 15:06Speaker 2: Like he had ruled my life for a very long time.
- 15:10Speaker 2: We were together for six years. Yeah, he had ruled
- 15:13Speaker 2: my life and had to say in so much of
- 15:15Speaker 2: my life for all that time. He wasn't getting a
- 15:18Speaker 2: say in this, and I wasn't going to lose the
- 15:20Speaker 2: money that I had saved my whole entire life, or
- 15:23Speaker 2: like it just wasn't happening.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I'm so proud of you for maintaining that, because it
- 15:27Speaker 3: would have been so easy to just be like fine,
- 15:30Speaker 3: get out, like.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well, there was definitely times where I was thinking,
- 15:33Speaker 2: like I just want it gone and I want to
- 15:36Speaker 2: finish it. But I ended up sticking to my guns,
- 15:39Speaker 2: and we did end up selling it for a little
- 15:41Speaker 2: bit more than what we paid, but I pretty much
- 15:43Speaker 2: just got Yeah, I just got kind of what I
- 15:47Speaker 2: had walked in with. So I did end up losing
- 15:49Speaker 2: out of money in that sense in terms of like
- 15:52Speaker 2: prepaying the mortgage, etc. But I did end up getting
- 15:56Speaker 2: that money back because at the time I had literally nothing.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I was doing a six month place and I had
- 16:00Speaker 2: nothing to my name, and I had burnt through my
- 16:03Speaker 2: emergency savings so quick. So it was kind of good
- 16:07Speaker 2: to see that money and cut the ties.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah, totally, but yes, but also just like what the
- 16:12Speaker 3: heck is going through this man's mind, Like, don't get
- 16:15Speaker 3: me wrong, like clearly things weren't perfect, but to just
- 16:18Speaker 3: pull the pin and be like you have to deal
- 16:21Speaker 3: with this to me is like low caig phrazy.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean again to this day, I don't know
- 16:27Speaker 2: and I'll never know. I mean, you know, he did
- 16:30Speaker 2: end up moving in Have.
- 16:31Speaker 3: You speculated is there someone else? Like that's the first
- 16:33Speaker 3: thing I thought of.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Yeah, So he was actually living in my family home.
- 16:37Speaker 2: So we had bought the house with the I guess
- 16:40Speaker 2: assumption that we were going to move into it, and
- 16:42Speaker 2: we got the first home buyers grant yep, so we
- 16:45Speaker 2: didn't move into it. We were thinking, okay, on the
- 16:48Speaker 2: eleventh kind of month, we can move into it and
- 16:51Speaker 2: not have to pay stamp duty. So that was the plan.
- 16:55Speaker 2: So we were living at my parents' house because you know,
- 16:57Speaker 2: we were obviously kind of saving for a wedding, paying
- 16:59Speaker 2: for them all. I was also on placement as well,
- 17:01Speaker 2: and that man was never going to give me crazy,
- 17:03Speaker 2: he was never going to give me money to like
- 17:05Speaker 2: survive or anything. So about two months later, I want
- 17:09Speaker 2: to say, he ended up moving out of his mom's
- 17:13Speaker 2: home into his now girlfriend's family home as well. So interesting,
- 17:20Speaker 2: it's just like the cycle repeats.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Yeah that I was like, what's going on here? Like
- 17:26Speaker 3: how is this working? Because like there has to be
- 17:28Speaker 3: something going on in the background for that to have
- 17:30Speaker 3: been like such a clean like not clean, but like
- 17:33Speaker 3: for him to be like, all right, I'm done full stop.
- 17:35Speaker 3: If you'd gone back and forth for so long, like yeah, oh,
- 17:40Speaker 3: why are they like this?
- 17:42Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. Look, honestly, it's just
- 17:45Speaker 2: it's probably the biggest blessing in disguise. I remember being
- 17:48Speaker 2: a thousand.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Percent like you've dodged a bullet. But tell me a
- 17:51Speaker 3: little bit more about this concept of you losing all
- 17:56Speaker 3: of this, like you know, deposit money, but him not
- 17:59Speaker 3: having to recoup that. Did you ever say all right,
- 18:01Speaker 3: well you owe me half or did you just let
- 18:03Speaker 3: it go like what happened there?
- 18:05Speaker 2: I honestly, there was so much back and forth and
- 18:08Speaker 2: he was always right where it was just like exhausting
- 18:12Speaker 2: to me. I didn't even bother with it, like he
- 18:15Speaker 2: was always right no matter what I said, he was
- 18:17Speaker 2: always right. I didn't want to get like mediation. I
- 18:20Speaker 2: didn't want to have to go into depth with everything.
- 18:22Speaker 2: I was willing to just cut my losses and leave
- 18:25Speaker 2: because I remember my mum saying to me, she said,
- 18:28Speaker 2: would you be happy to kind of, you know, be
- 18:31Speaker 2: embarrassed because you never had this big wedding that everyone
- 18:34Speaker 2: was hoping for, Or are you happier that you didn't
- 18:38Speaker 2: have this wedding that everyone attended, that everyone celebrated, and
- 18:42Speaker 2: then you got divorced, you know, two weeks three weeks later.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Oh, she's so right, But it's so hard to see
- 18:48Speaker 3: that in the moment, right because you're just like, oh
- 18:50Speaker 3: my god, I'm letting these people down. And I don't
- 18:52Speaker 3: think if we asked anybody who was invited too your wedding,
- 18:55Speaker 3: do you feel that down? They would have been like no,
- 18:57Speaker 3: like I'm so glad that they're doing what's right for them,
- 18:59Speaker 3: Like nobody would have felt that way. But you do
- 19:02Speaker 3: in that moment, I'm sure.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Of course. I Mean I had my whole life sorted,
- 19:06Speaker 2: I had the house I had, you know, I was
- 19:08Speaker 2: just about to finish my degree. I had what I
- 19:11Speaker 2: thought was the perfect man, I had all my ducks
- 19:13Speaker 2: in a row, and then all of a sudden everything
- 19:15Speaker 2: was this is crazy.
- 19:16Speaker 3: So he's like still negotiating settlement of this house with
- 19:20Speaker 3: you and sale price while living at a new girl's house.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, and queen, you can keep him like you
- 19:28Speaker 3: can keep him like I promise. I'm not looking at
- 19:32Speaker 3: your man because like nobody should be.
- 19:34Speaker 2: No, And I'm just like I'm happy to not have
- 19:37Speaker 2: a leech, like I'm happy for him to leach off
- 19:40Speaker 2: another female that will support him.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Yuck. I feel bad for her me too, but I
- 19:46Speaker 3: mean it is what it is, really what you pick
- 19:49Speaker 3: your poison exactly, exactly. Oh my goodness, money, Darius, do
- 19:54Speaker 3: I want to know what do you do for work
- 19:55Speaker 3: now and how much money do you earn?
- 19:57Speaker 2: So I only graduated a few few months ago, November
- 20:01Speaker 2: last year. Congrat So exciting, Yeah, really exciting. It was
- 20:05Speaker 2: six years too long. So I'm now an accredited practicing dietitian. Ah,
- 20:10Speaker 2: very cool. Yes, Yes, I work between a few jobs
- 20:15Speaker 2: just because it's really hard in the industry, like the
- 20:17Speaker 2: jobs are pretty far and few between, and especially full
- 20:20Speaker 2: time roles as well. You'll most likely find dietitians that
- 20:24Speaker 2: do have quite a number of roles and it just
- 20:27Speaker 2: makes up the full time week. So I work in
- 20:30Speaker 2: the community three days a week, and then I work
- 20:33Speaker 2: private practice two days a week, and then I'm a
- 20:37Speaker 2: contractor on the weekends as well in a GP clinic.
- 20:41Speaker 3: So you're still just hustling and working your butt off.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Again, I think I have like this fear of
- 20:48Speaker 2: just never having money again. Ye fair, like what I
- 20:51Speaker 2: said before, Like I just always need to like hold
- 20:53Speaker 2: it tight. I mean, I respect it, but I also
- 20:56Speaker 2: don't want you to burn yourself out. Tell me how
- 20:59Speaker 2: much money you taking home for all of that. So
- 21:02Speaker 2: for my like my full time role, between the two jobs,
- 21:06Speaker 2: I make about ninety five thousand a year, which is
- 21:09Speaker 2: for a graduate dietitian. Quite good.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Now, that's very good, my queen.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I got super lucky with the roles that I got,
- 21:16Speaker 2: and then with my contracting role, it's ad hoc, so
- 21:20Speaker 2: some days I might be taking in you know, like
- 21:23Speaker 2: five hundred dollars for the day, and then other days
- 21:25Speaker 2: I might only make eighty dollars. So yeah, okay, it's
- 21:28Speaker 2: dependent on the referrals.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah that's crazy. But also like so good, and what's
- 21:33Speaker 3: the plan because like, obviously you come into this industry,
- 21:37Speaker 3: you've worked your butt off, you've done your master's and
- 21:40Speaker 3: you're kind of still in that like grad mode. But
- 21:42Speaker 3: do you have a like I want to own my
- 21:44Speaker 3: own practice or you want to like go completely you know,
- 21:47Speaker 3: private practice, or what's the plan.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I think one day I would really love to
- 21:53Speaker 2: kind of have my own practice, have a bunch of
- 21:56Speaker 2: people working with me, create my own team. The market is, however,
- 22:00Speaker 2: very saturated, so I think most of the time, everyone
- 22:04Speaker 2: would be happy listening to, you know, an influencer online
- 22:07Speaker 2: that doesn't really have a degree or anything, because everyone eats.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Everyone knows what to be, don't I hate you?
- 22:12Speaker 2: Yea, So it would be good. That is kind of
- 22:16Speaker 2: the goal. But yeah, at the moment, I'm just kind
- 22:19Speaker 2: of building up my clinical skills as best as I
- 22:21Speaker 2: can to become a good dietitian eventually.
- 22:24Speaker 3: And are you leaning into that social side to kind
- 22:28Speaker 3: of build a clientele out or what does that look
- 22:30Speaker 3: like for you?
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess in my contractor role, because I work
- 22:34Speaker 2: kind of under my own business name, Like it's very separate.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Even though I work in the same clinic, it's very separate.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I have my own identity there and my own company.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I think kind of building up that clientele, building up
- 22:45Speaker 2: that name for now is a good kind of stepping stone.
- 22:48Speaker 2: And then I guess, you know, in a few years
- 22:51Speaker 2: down the track, hopefully my goal becomes a reality.
- 22:55Speaker 3: It totally will. And it always is so disheartening when
- 22:59Speaker 3: like an it's the reality right when you say something like, oh, well,
- 23:03Speaker 3: you know, lots of people would prefer to following influencer,
- 23:05Speaker 3: and it drives me insane because it's.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Like, what do they know?
- 23:10Speaker 3: Like they're saying things with conviction, and it's getting you
- 23:12Speaker 3: in trouble, Like I'm known about you and you probably
- 23:15Speaker 3: shouldn't agree to me in this moment. But I feel
- 23:18Speaker 3: like all of the influences right now that a drop
- 23:20Speaker 3: in health and beauty stuff are really promoting heroin chic
- 23:24Speaker 3: as like a body aesthetic or and that's just not
- 23:27Speaker 3: what it should be about. Like we've come so far,
- 23:30Speaker 3: like in being strong and being women and eating the
- 23:33Speaker 3: right stuff, and now it's just like we're going backwards.
- 23:36Speaker 3: So we need more people like you to have voices
- 23:38Speaker 3: that can be amplified to keep us happy and to
- 23:42Speaker 3: keep us healthy and to put U say in the
- 23:44Speaker 3: best possible position, because listening to influencers is horrific. Like
- 23:47Speaker 3: I find myself even when I'm talking about my journey,
- 23:51Speaker 3: I'll be like, I am not a doctor, but this
- 23:54Speaker 3: is what I'm doing. Please do not listen to me.
- 23:56Speaker 3: All I know is money. Like, I've got my finance degrees,
- 23:59Speaker 3: I've got business degree, like I know what I'm talking
- 24:02Speaker 3: about there, and I've even got a couple of psychology degrees.
- 24:05Speaker 3: We can talk about that. Anything outside of that, I'm
- 24:07Speaker 3: not a professional. Stop asking me. Like you want to
- 24:09Speaker 3: talk about food, go to a dietitian, go and talk
- 24:12Speaker 3: to our money darrist.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Like.
- 24:14Speaker 3: I cannot tell you how frustrating it is when people
- 24:16Speaker 3: are like, can you do a day on a plate?
- 24:19Speaker 2: No?
- 24:19Speaker 3: Absolutely, I cannot, Like I cannot do a day on
- 24:22Speaker 3: a plate, because not only would it not be the
- 24:25Speaker 3: right thing to share, it would set like you know,
- 24:27Speaker 3: unrealistic expectations. Not because I eat too much, not because
- 24:30Speaker 3: I eat too little, all of that, but like, that's
- 24:33Speaker 3: crazy to think that I would become an influencer to
- 24:36Speaker 3: influence what people are eating it a day. Get me
- 24:39Speaker 3: out of here, exact, get me out.
- 24:41Speaker 2: A lot of my job is literally just debunking the
- 24:44Speaker 2: latest nutrition myth on the internet, so it's quite fee.
- 24:48Speaker 3: I have this gorgeous natural path that I see probably monthly, Zoe.
- 24:52Speaker 3: If you guys follow me on socials who would have
- 24:54Speaker 3: sent me a tagor a heap of times. But I
- 24:56Speaker 3: like am always going to her and you know, chatting
- 25:00Speaker 3: about my health, doing bloods, doing everything properly. But then
- 25:04Speaker 3: I'm like, what about this? Like, oh, have you heard
- 25:06Speaker 3: of Ozmpic? Everyone's talking about it, but she's just like
- 25:09Speaker 3: we're trying to sit down, like this is crazy, and
- 25:11Speaker 3: like we get to have these good conversations about what's
- 25:13Speaker 3: going on, and it just really reiterates to me, like,
- 25:16Speaker 3: do not listen to influences, listen to people who are
- 25:21Speaker 3: actually educated, Like did you not just hear how much
- 25:24Speaker 3: our money diarist was slaving away to make sure she
- 25:27Speaker 3: has the knowledge to put people first. That's who we
- 25:29Speaker 3: want to be. Championing drives me insane. My love drives
- 25:32Speaker 3: me to sane. Let's move on from that, because I
- 25:35Speaker 3: want to know what are your big money goals? Because
- 25:37Speaker 3: obviously getting back on your feet financially was a big
- 25:39Speaker 3: money goal. Sorry, there's one hundred and fifty thousand dollars
- 25:42Speaker 3: in your savings right now, so I feel like we've
- 25:44Speaker 3: achieved that. Yeah, what's next? What are you currently working towards?
- 25:49Speaker 2: I mean, even though I'm very, very scarred. I would
- 25:52Speaker 2: like to get an investment property again.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Well that's not a bad thing though, Like that's just
- 25:57Speaker 3: an asset class. We just don't want to buy with
- 26:00Speaker 3: a douchebag partner who's going to move in with a girl.
- 26:04Speaker 3: They told you not to worry about, you know.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think if I do do it, it'll
- 26:08Speaker 2: definitely be alone. But yeah, I just want to make
- 26:11Speaker 2: sure that I guess I'm very secure able to you know,
- 26:15Speaker 2: pay the mortgages, do everything that I need to do. Again,
- 26:18Speaker 2: I feel like I have this kind of mentality. It's
- 26:21Speaker 2: like it's never enough, like I need to have money
- 26:23Speaker 2: because you just never know when you're going to need it.
- 26:26Speaker 2: So I guess eventually I will look into securing my
- 26:30Speaker 2: next kind of investment property.
- 26:33Speaker 3: But that's really exciting. All right, let's go to a
- 26:36Speaker 3: really quick break and on the flip side, I want
- 26:38Speaker 3: to know a little bit more about this investment property
- 26:40Speaker 3: journey and what it could look like. I want to
- 26:42Speaker 3: talk about debt and how you feel about it, and
- 26:44Speaker 3: then we're going to talk about best and worst money habits.
- 26:46Speaker 3: So guys, it don't go anywhere money varies do. We
- 26:52Speaker 3: are back and I want to talk a little bit
- 26:54Speaker 3: more about investments, because you said, Hey, I'm not that
- 26:57Speaker 3: scarred when it comes to investment property. The man. Sure,
- 27:01Speaker 3: but like the investment property, I probably would get straight
- 27:04Speaker 3: back into bed with one of those tell me about
- 27:07Speaker 3: the plan. There is that something that you're like, Look, VI,
- 27:09Speaker 3: I just know I want to do it. I haven't
- 27:10Speaker 3: got a plan, or are you kind of working towards
- 27:13Speaker 3: having a specific deposit saved or where are we with that?
- 27:17Speaker 2: I mean, at the moment, I'm just kind of plodding along.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I guess because I worked so hard, I pretty much
- 27:23Speaker 2: rebuilt the last six months of my life, probably a
- 27:26Speaker 2: little bit more. I've been rebuilding kind of all of
- 27:29Speaker 2: that money back and going from having nothing in my
- 27:32Speaker 2: bank account to you know, the sale of the property
- 27:35Speaker 2: coming through, and then kind of rebuilding my finances up
- 27:38Speaker 2: from there. I think probably within the next year or so,
- 27:41Speaker 2: I'll look into buying a property.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Oh that's exciting and so soon.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Yeah, no magic number, like I'm not looking to you know,
- 27:48Speaker 2: hit two hundred thousand or anything like that. But I
- 27:50Speaker 2: think just when I'm ready, when I feel ready to
- 27:53Speaker 2: do it, I'll do it.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I have no doubt you'll hit two hundred pounds. It
- 27:57Speaker 3: sounds like you are hustling and hustling hard. Are you
- 28:00Speaker 3: investing in any other way?
- 28:02Speaker 2: Yes, I am. I do you have a comsex account
- 28:06Speaker 2: so I have. I checked this morning. It was actually
- 28:09Speaker 2: twenty thousand, four hundred and ninety three dollars thus far.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Oh I can't.
- 28:13Speaker 3: And how long have you been investing? What made you
- 28:16Speaker 3: dive in first?
- 28:17Speaker 2: She's on the money.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I stopped it. You did not have to say that,
- 28:21Speaker 3: but I'm glad that we're all putting ourselves first.
- 28:25Speaker 2: I've literally got all of the books.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Do you actually?
- 28:28Speaker 2: That was so sweet.
- 28:29Speaker 3: It makes me want to cry when people are like,
- 28:32Speaker 3: I've got your books, I'm like, what do you mean?
- 28:34Speaker 3: Like I thought it was just my mum who bought those.
- 28:36Speaker 2: So I bought them as well. I have them. My
- 28:40Speaker 2: dad also helped as well, so I did go to
- 28:43Speaker 2: him after kind of listening to a lot of the
- 28:45Speaker 2: podcast I guess around kind of investing and things like that. Yeah,
- 28:48Speaker 2: and I went to him, and I started off with
- 28:51Speaker 2: a comsex pocket, so I think I probably put like
- 28:55Speaker 2: two hundred dollars into that made and then my dad,
- 28:58Speaker 2: who's an accountant, I went to him and I was like,
- 29:01Speaker 2: I want to start investing. Can you kind of tell
- 29:04Speaker 2: me what I should do, not necessarily what I should
- 29:06Speaker 2: invest in or anything.
- 29:08Speaker 3: And he was probably like money, darrist, I've been telling
- 29:10Speaker 3: you this for years, and you were h yeah, but
- 29:13Speaker 3: I've listened to this podcast. And he was like, I
- 29:14Speaker 3: don't care about your podcast. I have been telling you
- 29:16Speaker 3: for years. Why didn't you listen to you? And You're like, no,
- 29:18Speaker 3: you never told me. That's crazy, Dad, No.
- 29:21Speaker 2: He really did. He's like, I've been saying this, if
- 29:23Speaker 2: you invested X amount, you know, in five years at
- 29:26Speaker 2: four percent.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Sorry, Dad, you're just too male. I'm sorry. We're not
- 29:31Speaker 3: here to listen to men about how to run our world.
- 29:34Speaker 3: So it's just not going to resonate. I don't need
- 29:36Speaker 3: make my own accountant father, as you probably already know
- 29:39Speaker 3: if you read my book. I'm sorry, Dad, I love you,
- 29:41Speaker 3: but I'm not going to be listening.
- 29:42Speaker 2: No, it doesn't make spect.
- 29:43Speaker 3: It just it wasn't even a choice. It was subconscious.
- 29:46Speaker 2: It's like when he would sit at the table with
- 29:49Speaker 2: me every night after dinner and do my Musk's homework
- 29:52Speaker 2: with me, and I would just go, nah, I can't
- 29:54Speaker 2: listen to not making any sense. So oh.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I wrote about that in my book as well, and
- 29:58Speaker 3: how I used to sit at the dining with my
- 30:00Speaker 3: dad and he'd be trying to teach me times tables
- 30:02Speaker 3: and I would cry, I know, like I would sit
- 30:04Speaker 3: there crying and he would be like, no, Victoria, you're
- 30:06Speaker 3: not getting out of this by crying. You are sitting
- 30:08Speaker 3: here and doing it. So I'd be sobbing and be
- 30:10Speaker 3: like five times five.
- 30:13Speaker 2: It's so funny because I swear my life was exactly
- 30:15Speaker 2: the same. But no, he he told me kind of
- 30:19Speaker 2: how it worked so individually investing into different stocks, and
- 30:23Speaker 2: just from that point I did my own research. I
- 30:27Speaker 2: sat on it for a little while, Like I probably
- 30:29Speaker 2: sat on a couple stocks that I watched for about
- 30:32Speaker 2: three months or so. Yeah, did a bit of you know,
- 30:35Speaker 2: research and stuff, and then I did end up kind
- 30:38Speaker 2: of picking a couple stocks to invest in, and then
- 30:41Speaker 2: ever since then, I've just picked other stocks to invest.
- 30:44Speaker 3: In, so which we love, which we genuinely love. Like
- 30:48Speaker 3: I feel like sometimes it does take a little bit
- 30:50Speaker 3: of sitting and a little bit of planning, Like it's
- 30:52Speaker 3: never you listen to one podcast and then did it
- 30:55Speaker 3: and if you did I'm confused, like, how did you
- 30:57Speaker 3: just get the confidence because I didn't even have the
- 31:00Speaker 3: confidence to do that.
- 31:01Speaker 2: No, it was very confused, Like.
- 31:02Speaker 3: Me, it's insane. I need to step back and make
- 31:05Speaker 3: decisions slowly.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm the same. I needed to just sit on
- 31:09Speaker 2: it for a while and understand it. Before I kind
- 31:11Speaker 2: of did invest in individual stocks, especially like blue chips
- 31:15Speaker 2: and things like that, I didn't really understand.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so exciting. And is that something where over
- 31:20Speaker 3: time you're going to be investing more or are we
- 31:22Speaker 3: really prioritizing getting into an investment property like or are
- 31:26Speaker 3: you just like V I'm just doing whatever feels good
- 31:29Speaker 3: right now.
- 31:29Speaker 2: No. Well, I try to put aside each week about
- 31:32Speaker 2: one hundred dollars depending on kind of like my pay
- 31:36Speaker 2: that week, and then I just kind of wait until
- 31:38Speaker 2: I'm ready to buy a certain stock or buy more
- 31:41Speaker 2: of a stock that I've currently already got. That's kind
- 31:43Speaker 2: of how I work.
- 31:45Speaker 3: I love that, all right. Tell me about debt. Do
- 31:47Speaker 3: you have any debts? Have you ever had any debt?
- 31:49Speaker 3: I feel I feel like I know the answer to this.
- 31:51Speaker 2: No. At the moment, the only debt that I've got
- 31:54Speaker 2: is my ex debt, which is I think. So I
- 31:57Speaker 2: paid off my first undergraduate degree, so I've just got
- 31:59Speaker 2: my mom sitting in there. I think at the moment
- 32:01Speaker 2: it's like twenty thousand maybe yep, yeah, yep.
- 32:05Speaker 3: And you planning on paying it off or you very
- 32:07Speaker 3: happy with that? What's your approach.
- 32:09Speaker 2: I've been thinking about paying it off, but I'm happy
- 32:12Speaker 2: to just kind of write it out for the next
- 32:13Speaker 2: couple of years and again just say invest and then
- 32:17Speaker 2: maybe when I'm in a better financial situation, I will
- 32:20Speaker 2: pay it off.
- 32:21Speaker 3: We'll see how we go, totally. So tell me a
- 32:24Speaker 3: bit more about personal insurances because you are quite young.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Is this something I mean, you've read my books, so
- 32:30Speaker 3: you know how important I think this is. But is
- 32:33Speaker 3: this something that you've set up or organized or even
- 32:35Speaker 3: thought about yet.
- 32:36Speaker 2: No, I don't have any personal insurance, but I have
- 32:40Speaker 2: been thinking about it, doing it through my super But yes,
- 32:44Speaker 2: I don't have any currently. I think definitely something to
- 32:47Speaker 2: ponder about. It is important. I just don't have any.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I think it's very important and you definitely should. But
- 32:53Speaker 3: that is okay, that's something that could definitely take you
- 32:55Speaker 3: from a B to an A overnight. I reckon tell
- 32:58Speaker 3: me a bit more. I feel like you're going to
- 33:00Speaker 3: have some pretty good money habits. You don't go from
- 33:03Speaker 3: losing literally everything that you'd saved for and you know,
- 33:06Speaker 3: and losing all your wedding deposits to have one hundred
- 33:08Speaker 3: and fifty grand saved without some good money habits. So
- 33:11Speaker 3: what do you think is your best money habit?
- 33:13Speaker 2: My best money habit, And I've been doing this since
- 33:16Speaker 2: my first job. As soon as I get paid, I
- 33:19Speaker 2: pretty much put a certain amount into savings, an emergency fund,
- 33:23Speaker 2: my car expenses. I have a whole range of different
- 33:27Speaker 2: accounts that I allocate, and then I'll leave myself my
- 33:30Speaker 2: budget for the week. Once you know that budget is gone,
- 33:35Speaker 2: I mean, I try and budget as much as I can,
- 33:37Speaker 2: but once it's gone, it's gone. So I like practically
- 33:39Speaker 2: will live off two minute noodles if I have to.
- 33:42Speaker 3: And I mean that's a good thing. But where does
- 33:44Speaker 3: that discipline come from? Have you always had that or
- 33:47Speaker 3: are you just like, no, I don't want to spend
- 33:48Speaker 3: any more money, or I don't want to, you know,
- 33:51Speaker 3: go above them. I don't know how do you get
- 33:53Speaker 3: that mentality? Because so many people just don't have it right,
- 33:55Speaker 3: They just go No, I could never do that, Like,
- 33:57Speaker 3: I wouldn't. I wouldn't sacrifice that.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I really don't know, Like I just pretty much
- 34:03Speaker 2: from the first paycheck I got I started doing it.
- 34:06Speaker 2: No one told me to do it. I just I
- 34:08Speaker 2: did it, and I've just been doing it for pretty
- 34:11Speaker 2: much my whole working life.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think that that's like, honestly relatively healthy
- 34:17Speaker 3: as long as it's not like restrictive in every other
- 34:19Speaker 3: part of your life. But I'm also like, how do
- 34:21Speaker 3: people just know this and then other people don't, Like,
- 34:24Speaker 3: obviously it's part of your money stories, but like, which
- 34:27Speaker 3: part how do we teach this?
- 34:29Speaker 2: I'm not too sure. Again, I think it was just
- 34:31Speaker 2: because growing up money wasn't scarce. However, we did have
- 34:35Speaker 2: periods where we didn't have money. So I think again,
- 34:38Speaker 2: it's just I hold onto whatever money I can, And
- 34:42Speaker 2: I guess that's probably going into my worst money habit.
- 34:45Speaker 2: That is, that's probably my So what is your worst
- 34:48Speaker 2: money habit? I think again, probably just holding onto all
- 34:53Speaker 2: my money and being scared and I guess being stung
- 34:55Speaker 2: in the past now that's probably made that a little
- 34:57Speaker 2: bit more heightened and substand It's like I can't lose
- 35:02Speaker 2: my money, like I've been there before now and it
- 35:05Speaker 2: scares me. So it's like I can't not have any money,
- 35:07Speaker 2: if you know what I mean.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of scary. But also what does that
- 35:10Speaker 3: mean in the future, Like have you found a new partner?
- 35:13Speaker 3: Is that something that you're interested in? Like how do
- 35:17Speaker 3: we move forward once somebody has like kind of just
- 35:20Speaker 3: been like, oh, by the way, I'm out. Also you
- 35:22Speaker 3: work it out. Also you're up for all of these costs,
- 35:25Speaker 3: like that would scare me off.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I do have a new partner.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Actually, yay, Well I'm glad.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Yeah, he's great, he's unreal. He has spoken to me
- 35:35Speaker 2: about consolidating our finances. But I'm just like very scarred.
- 35:38Speaker 2: It's not happening, absolutely not, sir. So for now, it's
- 35:42Speaker 2: my money or money, And yeah, I guess somewhere down
- 35:45Speaker 2: the line, if I feel comfortable doing it, then I
- 35:47Speaker 2: may probably not all of my finances like I did prior,
- 35:51Speaker 2: but it may be something that, you know, down the line,
- 35:55Speaker 2: we do end up doing. But yes, I think my
- 35:58Speaker 2: scarcity kind of mindset do need to work on. It's
- 36:01Speaker 2: something that I know I need to work on. But
- 36:05Speaker 2: it's just a matter of I don't really know how
- 36:06Speaker 2: to do it because it's so engraved in me.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Yeah, tell me a little bit more about this scarcity
- 36:11Speaker 3: mindset and how you feel like it's holding you back,
- 36:14Speaker 3: because I think a lot of the time people are like, oh, well,
- 36:16Speaker 3: a scarcity mindset is really bad, but sometimes it can
- 36:19Speaker 3: be a good and a bad thing. And I'm not
- 36:21Speaker 3: trying to reframe it to be good because clearly you're like, there,
- 36:23Speaker 3: I want to work on this, but like, can you
- 36:26Speaker 3: tell me a bit more about where you feel like
- 36:28Speaker 3: that's holding you back.
- 36:29Speaker 2: I mean, it's not necessarily holding me back from anything,
- 36:33Speaker 2: but there is definitely times where say I've you know,
- 36:36Speaker 2: blown my budget for the week, where I do have
- 36:38Speaker 2: fifteen dollars left at the end of the week. My
- 36:40Speaker 2: friends might say like, hey, let's you know, go out
- 36:43Speaker 2: for dinner or something, and I'm like, no, so I
- 36:45Speaker 2: do kind of miss out on things I would, you know,
- 36:48Speaker 2: obviously like to kind of lengthen that out a little
- 36:52Speaker 2: bit or try and work on ways that I can,
- 36:55Speaker 2: you know, maybe extend my budget to allocate fun things.
- 36:59Speaker 2: But I've sound really boring actually now that I'm talking,
- 37:03Speaker 2: no sound boring.
- 37:05Speaker 3: I think you sound relatable because so many of us
- 37:08Speaker 3: are going, like, you know, we don't know have one
- 37:10Speaker 3: hundred and fifty grand saved, but so many of us
- 37:13Speaker 3: are like, oh, that's holding me back off?
- 37:14Speaker 1: But is it?
- 37:15Speaker 2: But isn't it?
- 37:16Speaker 3: Like life is stressful my friends, like so many of
- 37:19Speaker 3: us are just trying to get by, and then we
- 37:21Speaker 3: identify things that we're like, oh, I'm struggling with that.
- 37:24Speaker 3: But I also have never heard someone say that they're struggling,
- 37:27Speaker 3: especially around money. Like how many times have you heard
- 37:29Speaker 3: someone outside of the She's on the Money and like
- 37:32Speaker 3: the podcast Money Space, say oh, I'm really struggling with
- 37:36Speaker 3: my scarcity mindset. It's holding me back from creating wealth
- 37:39Speaker 3: or creating happiness. Like these aren't questions that we know
- 37:43Speaker 3: the answers to, Like we just don't. So I think
- 37:47Speaker 3: it's so important that we talk about this and go,
- 37:50Speaker 3: what about that is holding you back or you know
- 37:52Speaker 3: what's going on? And you're saying, hey, Vey, well not
- 37:54Speaker 3: really holding me back, but I am missing out on
- 37:56Speaker 3: like life experiences with my friends, and like that's what
- 37:59Speaker 3: I would want to build. Wow, how insightful is that
- 38:03Speaker 3: for us to know? And how insightful. Is it that
- 38:05Speaker 3: somebody gets to listen to this money story and go
- 38:08Speaker 3: hold on? That's how I'm feeling. That's crazy, Like I
- 38:10Speaker 3: thought it was just me, Like I think it's just
- 38:14Speaker 3: really special.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good, but it's also not good at the
- 38:19Speaker 2: same time. So I'd like to get to a good,
- 38:21Speaker 2: happy meeting. I do get it. I do get it.
- 38:25Speaker 2: So tell me.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Now that we've spoken, I feel like you're a bit
- 38:28Speaker 3: of a weapon. Also, you just like you've gotten back up,
- 38:32Speaker 3: dusted yourself off, and been like, I actually don't need that, man,
- 38:35Speaker 3: I'll just get a newer, better one. And then you
- 38:37Speaker 3: did like be so for real, like that is a
- 38:41Speaker 3: hot girl move. Now that we've spoken, do you really
- 38:45Speaker 3: feel like you are just to be?
- 38:48Speaker 1: Like?
- 38:48Speaker 3: I don't know what would make you an a? What
- 38:50Speaker 3: do you have to do to get to become an
- 38:52Speaker 3: a given you're so young and have so much ahead
- 38:55Speaker 3: of you.
- 38:56Speaker 2: I don't know. Actually, I think probably to become an
- 39:01Speaker 2: it would mean that I do have I guess better,
- 39:05Speaker 2: I guess relationships in terms of money where it's not
- 39:08Speaker 2: like I'm constantly holding onto it, and you know, it's
- 39:11Speaker 2: something that I constantly think about. I just don't have
- 39:15Speaker 2: enough of like, and I think that's the thing. I'll
- 39:17Speaker 2: never have enough of it no matter what my goal is,
- 39:21Speaker 2: no matter what I reach, it will never be enough
- 39:23Speaker 2: to me. So I think that is probably the only
- 39:26Speaker 2: thing kind of holding me back at the moment. It's
- 39:30Speaker 2: like a blessing and a curse really, But that's.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Also not the worst thing. But it does sound like
- 39:35Speaker 3: maybe it's not a I have to save more, I
- 39:38Speaker 3: have to buy an investment property for me. It sounds
- 39:40Speaker 3: a little bit more around your money mindset and like
- 39:43Speaker 3: feeling comfortable and like getting really comfort in this relationship
- 39:46Speaker 3: that you're now in about how you manage money moving forward,
- 39:49Speaker 3: because you just don't want that to be something that
- 39:52Speaker 3: you know Lord's over you for the rest of it ever,
- 39:54Speaker 3: Like I just feel like that could be all all
- 39:57Speaker 3: consuming and overwhelming, right, Yeah, exactly, no, And that's not
- 40:01Speaker 3: the worst thing to want to work on, right, And
- 40:04Speaker 3: like I talk a lot about it in my books,
- 40:05Speaker 3: as you would probably know. So I'm going to gift
- 40:07Speaker 3: you my money masterclass to do because as much as
- 40:10Speaker 3: it's just a budget, right, it's also got so many
- 40:14Speaker 3: videos about money mindset and getting on the same page
- 40:17Speaker 3: and like feeling confident with money, and I just think
- 40:20Speaker 3: that you might benefit from that and if that even
- 40:23Speaker 3: pushes you to a B plus, I would love that.
- 40:26Speaker 2: I would love that too. Thank you. I appreciate the door.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Oh I'm glad. I was worried that you'd be like
- 40:32Speaker 3: no V, like I already have it.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Or I was going to buy it, like probably two
- 40:38Speaker 2: months ago. I was like I'm going to buy it,
- 40:40Speaker 2: and then I didn't end up doing it.
- 40:42Speaker 3: I think, well, I'm glad you did it because you've
- 40:43Speaker 3: just saved and like I'll gift it to you as
- 40:46Speaker 3: a little bit of a thank you for doing the
- 40:47Speaker 3: money don't with me, because I'm like, hold on, this
- 40:49Speaker 3: would really work for you, and like I think you'll
- 40:51Speaker 3: find the budget, like the actual spreadsheet really empowering as well,
- 40:55Speaker 3: especially if you're trying to like plan out what's next
- 40:58Speaker 3: or where you're going and what that looks like. I'm
- 41:00Speaker 3: excited for you to do it, but I'm also just
- 41:02Speaker 3: really grateful that I've had the opportunity to do this
- 41:05Speaker 3: money diary with you and like share a bit of
- 41:07Speaker 3: your story and you know, throw some mean words around
- 41:11Speaker 3: about your expert from my side, not yours. I were
- 41:15Speaker 3: very respectful, and you know what, maybe no one's broken
- 41:18Speaker 3: up with me like that because they just know that
- 41:21Speaker 3: I would be savage, like I'd be so rude, like
- 41:24Speaker 3: I'd get canceled.
- 41:25Speaker 2: No one cancels Victoria to more.
- 41:26Speaker 3: They've tried, and you know.
- 41:28Speaker 2: What, pop off.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Sometimes they're right. Sometimes I need to pull my head in.
- 41:32Speaker 3: But at least I'm honest.
- 41:33Speaker 2: You know, not on my watch. No, it's not happening.
- 41:36Speaker 2: I appreciate you.
- 41:37Speaker 3: It has been an absolute pleasure. Thank you so much
- 41:39Speaker 3: for joining us.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Thanks for having me.
