- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another
- 0:30Speaker 2: one of our Friday Drinks episodes where we get to
- 0:32Speaker 2: celebrate the money wins from our She's on the Money community.
- 0:35Speaker 2: As we know, there are so many great money wins
- 0:38Speaker 2: and confessions that I shared every single week in our
- 0:40Speaker 2: Facebook group, and we spend a very big part of
- 0:43Speaker 2: our week talking about them and sharing them with the
- 0:46Speaker 2: whole office. So it only makes sense to have an
- 0:48Speaker 2: entire episode celebrating you before we jump straight into it. Jess,
- 0:53Speaker 2: what happened on this Week's Money Diaries?
- 0:56Speaker 3: This week's Money diarist was someone that I related to
- 0:59Speaker 3: a little bit in the sense that she was telling
- 1:01Speaker 3: us how many jobs she's had over time, and she
- 1:04Speaker 3: said she's had over thirty part time jobs, which is
- 1:06Speaker 3: crazy and definitely I have not come even close to
- 1:09Speaker 3: scratching the surface on that, but I feel like the
- 1:12Speaker 3: relatability of it for me was, you know, sometimes you
- 1:15Speaker 3: just got to do what you've got to do to
- 1:17Speaker 3: make it work. And you know, she was saying that
- 1:19Speaker 3: her and her husband haven't always been the best with money.
- 1:22Speaker 3: They've had a little bit of a hard time until
- 1:24Speaker 3: recently they had a bit of a money win in
- 1:26Speaker 3: the form of getting that tax return back and that
- 1:28Speaker 3: kind of set them on the right path a little bit.
- 1:31Speaker 3: But I think that it was quite interesting and very
- 1:34Speaker 3: relatable to hear from someone who maybe hasn't quite landed
- 1:36Speaker 3: in their perfect job just yet. She's just making ends meet,
- 1:40Speaker 3: doing what she's got to do, and I think there's
- 1:41Speaker 3: something super admirable about that and really just something that
- 1:45Speaker 3: I personally related to because I've been there.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Epic Georgia.
- 1:49Speaker 4: What happened on this week's Deep Dive Guys. This week
- 1:52Speaker 4: things got a little festy, I think because it's December,
- 1:56Speaker 4: it's almost Christmas.
- 1:58Speaker 5: So we chatted through the twelve Saves of Christmas, which
- 2:03Speaker 5: I realized at the end of the episode was like
- 2:05Speaker 5: funny because the twelve days of Christmas much you know
- 2:09Speaker 5: what I'm.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Saying, Yeah, thinking out what you're put in down.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I just thought it was a strangely large number. Anyway,
- 2:16Speaker 5: we chatted through some really good hacks because it's actually
- 2:20Speaker 5: estimated that Australians are going to spend twenty three point
- 2:23Speaker 5: nine billion dollars on Christmas this year.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Oh, That's what I spend every year, so it just
- 2:29Speaker 2: makes sense.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, same, same. But no, if you do
- 2:33Speaker 5: need some hacks to kind of keep the costs down
- 2:35Speaker 5: this silly season, then that is definitely the episode for you.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I love it. I feel like Christmas is so expensive,
- 2:40Speaker 3: so as someone who's trying to save their very hard
- 2:43Speaker 3: earned pennies, I really enjoyed that one.
- 2:46Speaker 4: How did you guys go with the Black Friday sales
- 2:49Speaker 4: last week?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Oh, because we did talk about.
- 2:50Speaker 2: This, I was so good. I actually forgot to do
- 2:54Speaker 2: what I said I was going to do and made
- 2:55Speaker 2: no Black Friday purchases. I think that's a money win.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Even though it was accident, tool definitely counts.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Jess, how did you get pretty well?
- 3:03Speaker 3: I kicked off everything that I had on my list.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I something actually arrived today. It was a bit of
- 3:08Speaker 3: a mishap. I compared. I bought my boyfriend's shoes and
- 3:11Speaker 3: I compared them to shoes that he has. But turns
- 3:13Speaker 3: out somehow something got wrong and the shoe is the
- 3:16Speaker 3: size to my head, So we'll be going back. I'm
- 3:20Speaker 3: hoping the sales ended now and the site doesn't do exchanges.
- 3:23Speaker 3: They'll just do a refund, so I'm not going to
- 3:25Speaker 3: email them and hopefully just say hey, like I can
- 3:29Speaker 3: either return them or I can exchange them if you
- 3:32Speaker 3: honor the price and fingers cross.
- 3:33Speaker 4: That works.
- 3:34Speaker 2: That is a very strange policy. I don't think I've
- 3:38Speaker 2: ever heard of a refunds policy that's like, no, we'd
- 3:40Speaker 2: actually prefer to give you a refund then give you
- 3:42Speaker 2: the right size.
- 3:43Speaker 3: It doesn't make sense, does it. I don't understand it
- 3:47Speaker 3: at all. I thought, if anything, they'd want to exchange
- 3:50Speaker 3: so that you like they keep your money, But they go, yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 3: I thought.
- 3:54Speaker 2: You were about to say no, like they just don't
- 3:56Speaker 2: do refunds, so we'd have to exchange them. And I'm
- 3:58Speaker 2: hoping they're in size no souch.
- 4:01Speaker 3: So I mean, worst case scenario, I walk away with
- 4:03Speaker 3: my money, but like I really wanted to get the.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Shoes, so yeah, so you're going to win. But like
- 4:08Speaker 2: I would actually just prefer the product that I originally
- 4:10Speaker 2: decided here with my money for, like that's that would
- 4:13Speaker 2: be perfect.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah, gee, howd you go?
- 4:15Speaker 4: I did?
- 4:15Speaker 5: Okay, I did what I said I would do, and
- 4:18Speaker 5: I didn't buy anything for myself.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Which was good.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Check you out I know, but I did buy like
- 4:24Speaker 5: one or two presents with the sales, so it was
- 4:27Speaker 5: a great rest to g.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I feel like I should have been more organized and
- 4:30Speaker 2: then I could have actually made use of that. Yet
- 4:32Speaker 2: here I am unorganized and not use of that. Do
- 4:35Speaker 2: you know what? That's really hypocritical of me? Because I
- 4:38Speaker 2: literally have a podcast where I tell everybody how to
- 4:41Speaker 2: save money, and yes, I can't do it myself. Oh
- 4:44Speaker 2: literally the worst.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, Well they're actually on the money wins
- 4:49Speaker 3: thread we put up this week. I did get a
- 4:51Speaker 3: bit cheeky and I asked everyone how they went with
- 4:52Speaker 3: Black Friday. So, G were there one or two that
- 4:55Speaker 3: made it into your top ten, top seven, top ten?
- 4:57Speaker 5: Whenever there were one or two, we've got with the
- 5:00Speaker 5: top seven to eleven. So I'll kick us off with Sophia.
- 5:04Speaker 5: So she was almost out of petrol in her car
- 5:07Speaker 5: and was putting off filling up for a week or
- 5:09Speaker 5: so because petrol prices in Adelaide were ridiculous a dollar
- 5:12Speaker 5: adi per liter if you don't mind, and she flat
- 5:15Speaker 5: out refused to pay it that much. I feel like
- 5:18Speaker 5: in Melbourne that is very standard at the moment as well.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I started to hire as two dollars. Yeah, I nearly,
- 5:25Speaker 3: and so I got excited because I filled up at
- 5:28Speaker 3: a dollar fifty and I was like, I remember three
- 5:30Speaker 3: months ago when I was like a dollar fifty, I'm
- 5:32Speaker 3: not paying that, And now I'm.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Sousing, oh, I can't believe there's a two in front
- 5:37Speaker 2: of it. That feels really scary crazy, that's too many,
- 5:40Speaker 2: but even a dollar ady like Sophia said here too much,
- 5:44Speaker 2: I would say. But eventually she did need petrol, because
- 5:47Speaker 2: you know, don't we all. So she was on her
- 5:49Speaker 2: way to reluctantly fill up the car and she drove
- 5:52Speaker 2: past a brand new petrol station recently opened, and they
- 5:55Speaker 2: were doing a promotion for ninety nine cents.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Elita, what good? So she's bloody laughing, basically half price.
- 6:03Speaker 2: They're losing money, don't they know that PETREL's really expensive.
- 6:09Speaker 3: They're obviously trying to get business. And I bet the
- 6:11Speaker 3: lines for that petrol station were out the door.
- 6:13Speaker 2: People like winding up with their Jerry cans and stuff.
- 6:17Speaker 3: That's like half of the price of the two dollars
- 6:19Speaker 3: per liter. But you can use there's an app called
- 6:21Speaker 3: petrol Spy. I don't know if anyone's used that before.
- 6:24Speaker 3: But you just download it and it uses your location
- 6:27Speaker 3: and it actually will tell you the prices of the
- 6:30Speaker 3: petrol everywhere. So when PETREL's really high, like it is
- 6:32Speaker 3: right now, I'll jump on there and you know, maybe
- 6:35Speaker 3: a couple of suburbs over it's a little cheaper. So
- 6:37Speaker 3: that's how I got my dollar fifty wheneverywhere else is
- 6:40Speaker 3: a dollar eighty. She's a genie, might be worth the
- 6:43Speaker 3: cheeky download.
- 6:44Speaker 5: I would never have the time up my sleeve to
- 6:46Speaker 5: like scout around different suburbs because my petrol tank is
- 6:49Speaker 5: just always flashing.
- 6:50Speaker 2: And I'm like, I was about to say, you've got
- 6:53Speaker 2: to be careful because if you run out of petrol
- 6:56Speaker 2: like I do, I literally wait until my car's like
- 6:58Speaker 2: you're using the reserve, and I'm like, well, how long
- 7:01Speaker 2: can we be last on this? So you've got to
- 7:04Speaker 2: be careful of that. But also like I want to
- 7:06Speaker 2: do the calculations. How much does it cost you to
- 7:09Speaker 2: drive to a few suburbs over and is the difference
- 7:12Speaker 2: in price worth it? I don't know.
- 7:14Speaker 3: With a thirty cents a leader, I was like, maybe
- 7:17Speaker 3: not for or five cents, but thirty cents felt like
- 7:19Speaker 3: a lot, and I was like, you know what, I'll
- 7:21Speaker 3: travel for that?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, I think that's really smart. The other app,
- 7:25Speaker 2: if we're talking about petrol not sponsored, just a good
- 7:28Speaker 2: call out, is the seven eleven app, So when you
- 7:31Speaker 2: can lock in the price. So if you're like, oh
- 7:34Speaker 2: my gosh, I can't get to the petrol station today
- 7:36Speaker 2: and I've heard that it's going to go up in price,
- 7:39Speaker 2: you can lock the price in on the seven eleven app.
- 7:41Speaker 2: And I think that's pretty smart.
- 7:42Speaker 5: And pick yourself up a one dollar coffee while you're there,
- 7:44Speaker 5: am I right?
- 7:45Speaker 2: Oh well, if you Jess, you won't do that, You'll
- 7:47Speaker 2: buy one dollar Slurpee, won't you? Jess?
- 7:50Speaker 3: Thousand percent?
- 7:51Speaker 5: All right, guys, let's move on to Angie's. So Angie
- 7:54Speaker 5: asked for a pay rise this week and she got
- 7:57Speaker 5: the figure she wanted without even having to negotiate.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Oh my god, has to us exactly, and.
- 8:05Speaker 5: She said she was so nervous, So you know, it
- 8:07Speaker 5: was a great result for Angie's. So well done. Our
- 8:10Speaker 5: next one here is from Alisha. So she has a
- 8:13Speaker 5: Black Friday money win which VD I feel like you
- 8:15Speaker 5: could probably get around this one.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Doll but I didn't have a Black Friday money win.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Well, yeah, okay, it's too late. Sorry, I'm just gonna
- 8:21Speaker 5: rub salt in the wound. She got her wedding bands
- 8:24Speaker 5: for thirty percent.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Off in the sales.
- 8:28Speaker 2: That's actually a lot of money.
- 8:29Speaker 4: It's decent, isn't it.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I googled wedding bands the other day. They'll be like
- 8:34Speaker 2: three hundred bucks. It's banned, like there's nothing exciting about them.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It's not three hundred dollars. Guys. Oh no, so expency.
- 8:41Speaker 5: I was like, wait what because for that, they're just
- 8:44Speaker 5: very plain, aren't they? Like they're literally a band of
- 8:46Speaker 5: metal to go with your engagement ring.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just gonna pull the ring off my cocaine and.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Use that money win.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Next up is Tamara. So on Friday, she unfortunately run
- 8:58Speaker 5: over a nail and got a flat tire. She had
- 9:02Speaker 5: to take it to get fixed the next day. When
- 9:04Speaker 5: she picked up her car a few hours later, the
- 9:07Speaker 5: mechanics said, it's on the house.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Toots. He didn't say toots. That makes it sound credit.
- 9:12Speaker 2: That makes it sound really Yeah, that's exactly how it
- 9:15Speaker 2: made it sound good.
- 9:16Speaker 5: He just said it's on the house. So long as
- 9:19Speaker 5: you leave a Google review, so she did, and everyone wins.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I would leave a five star stellar Google review for
- 9:27Speaker 2: someone fixing my tire for free, like, as if that
- 9:29Speaker 2: is not the best service.
- 9:30Speaker 4: You've ever had?
- 9:31Speaker 2: What literally cost you nothing?
- 9:33Speaker 4: We love we love.
- 9:34Speaker 5: Money, win money win Okay. Our next one is from Casey.
- 9:38Speaker 5: So Telstra had been charging Casey for a service she
- 9:41Speaker 5: no longer had. She contacted them and got a thirteen
- 9:44Speaker 5: hundred dollars credit. Yes, thanks, thank you, I will take that.
- 9:48Speaker 4: I don't mind if I do.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Jackie, she actually had a money loss, so I thought
- 9:53Speaker 5: we'd take the mood down and then we'd pick it.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Back up right at the end.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 9:57Speaker 5: So she was convinced she had locked her keys and
- 10:00Speaker 5: her phone in her car. As it turned out, she'd
- 10:02Speaker 5: only locked her phone in there and her.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Keys were actually down the back of the couch.
- 10:08Speaker 5: So that set her back one hundred and ninety five
- 10:10Speaker 5: dollars for ROCV roadside assist plus one hundred and fifty
- 10:14Speaker 5: bucks to the automotive locksmith call out.
- 10:17Speaker 4: So a bit of a bit of a bummer there.
- 10:19Speaker 3: For get copies of your keys cut and keep them
- 10:24Speaker 3: somewhere you can access them.
- 10:25Speaker 2: But car keys are so expensive?
- 10:27Speaker 5: Yeah, how expensive are we talking? I feel like I've
- 10:30Speaker 5: only heard this on the grape Barne like five hunch twenty.
- 10:34Speaker 2: So I guess it depends on the type of car
- 10:36Speaker 2: key you have or like, you know how it works.
- 10:38Speaker 2: My car keys are like the button and it's kind
- 10:41Speaker 2: of like sounds like real wanky, But I have a
- 10:43Speaker 2: push to start car. I actually have a proper key,
- 10:47Speaker 2: So to replace that is like one thousand dollars, which
- 10:50Speaker 2: I think is absolutely astronomical. But a family member of
- 10:54Speaker 2: mine has a Vaults wagon and has a key. It's
- 10:57Speaker 2: all good, very normal, and they got quoted to replace
- 11:01Speaker 2: it because they wanted a second key, and it was
- 11:03Speaker 2: four hundred and fifty dollars. I feel like that's a
- 11:06Speaker 2: lot of money.
- 11:06Speaker 3: So when I mean, that's more money than she spent
- 11:08Speaker 3: on the call out, arguably, so maybe there was a
- 11:11Speaker 3: money win.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yeah, true, truly.
- 11:13Speaker 5: You could also just buy another car, you know what
- 11:15Speaker 5: I'm saying, Like when you break your phone, it's like
- 11:17Speaker 5: we'll just find a new one, the same deal with
- 11:18Speaker 5: the car guys. Let's wrap up with our final money
- 11:22Speaker 5: win for today. This one I chose because I feel
- 11:24Speaker 5: like it is as she's on the money E as
- 11:27Speaker 5: it could possibly.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Be she was on the money. E.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Did you like that she went on a shopping spree
- 11:33Speaker 5: on self wealth and bought more ETFs while the market
- 11:37Speaker 5: was down.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I love that. She's like, we're on a shopping spree
- 11:40Speaker 2: and you got shares. I love you. You are my people.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 5: So that's that's the last one there from Hannah. But
- 11:46Speaker 5: well done everyone. Gorgeous wins this week.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Genius because on Black Friday as well, the market did
- 11:50Speaker 2: have a little bit of a dip, so it was
- 11:52Speaker 2: technically like the shares are on sale like for Black Friday.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Absolutely no correlation. Just sounded good, you.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Know, real life timing.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Let's talk more about the market and how shares work
- 12:02Speaker 2: after this really quick break.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Okay, so straight back into it, guys. I wanted to
- 12:08Speaker 5: ask you about something I've kind of seen floating around
- 12:11Speaker 5: the news channels and the news sites lately. Yes, obviously
- 12:15Speaker 5: there's a new little strain of COVID which is raging
- 12:19Speaker 5: hearts and souls across the country and the impact but
- 12:23Speaker 5: obviously this is having an impact on the stock market.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yes, insanely so you would have thought we've learnt by
- 12:31Speaker 2: now you would have thought that. People were like, oh,
- 12:33Speaker 2: this makes sense, but it essentially sent share markets literally
- 12:36Speaker 2: around the world into a free fall since discovering what
- 12:40Speaker 2: we are deeming to be omnicron. I think I'm saying
- 12:43Speaker 2: that properly, and now they're holding their breath to see
- 12:45Speaker 2: what happens in Australia over the next few weeks, because
- 12:48Speaker 2: obviously we've had a few cases reported in Australia. It's Friday.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Technically you guys are listening to this today, and we've
- 12:55Speaker 2: recorded this a little bit earlier in the week, so
- 12:58Speaker 2: there might be more news on this. But actually, this
- 13:01Speaker 2: new variant has another spike, which, to summarize all of that,
- 13:04Speaker 2: just means it's even more contagious and sticks to your
- 13:07Speaker 2: immune system in a different way, like it has double
- 13:09Speaker 2: the spikes that had before. So that's kind of scary.
- 13:12Speaker 2: But I think the thing that I'm most worried about
- 13:15Speaker 2: is the way that the media are portraying this. Earlier
- 13:18Speaker 2: this week, I was watching TV and people were literally
- 13:21Speaker 2: comparing it and I thought this was wildly unfair. They
- 13:25Speaker 2: were comparing it to HIV and they were like, oh, well,
- 13:28Speaker 2: it makes sense that it was found in Africa because
- 13:29Speaker 2: of that, and I was like, what the hell that
- 13:32Speaker 2: is not on? But then to further that, I feel
- 13:36Speaker 2: like we should have seen this coming, Like you know
- 13:39Speaker 2: how delta happened. I think we're all shocked about that.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Then this has happened, and it kind of makes sense
- 13:44Speaker 2: because COVID mutates, like that's how it works. So that's
- 13:48Speaker 2: why we have to every single year have a new
- 13:50Speaker 2: flu vaccination because it won't work on the old flu variant,
- 13:53Speaker 2: So every year we need to do that. I just
- 13:55Speaker 2: feel like I saw that coming and I knew that
- 13:58Speaker 2: was a thing. I didn't know it would be a
- 14:00Speaker 2: dramatic is this? But I feel like we should brace
- 14:03Speaker 2: ourselves for other variants to pop up over time because
- 14:06Speaker 2: we're in COVID normal. It's not COVID eradicated, and we're
- 14:09Speaker 2: just hoping it'll go away. If that makes sense.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Can we talk about how hyperbolized as well the impact
- 14:17Speaker 3: of that, like definitely not talking it down fully understand
- 14:21Speaker 3: that there can be huge impacts and we will have
- 14:23Speaker 3: to wait to see. But I saw a lot of
- 14:25Speaker 3: reports being like stock market crash to record lows and
- 14:29Speaker 3: then you traumatic you look at the graph though, and
- 14:32Speaker 3: I mean I really wish this was a TV show
- 14:34Speaker 3: and you could we could flush a graph on the screen,
- 14:36Speaker 3: but maybe we'll find a lead. We would be but
- 14:40Speaker 3: like if you look at the crash in relation to
- 14:44Speaker 3: the stock market over like say the last ten years,
- 14:46Speaker 3: yes it is dipped, but it's not like it's dropped
- 14:49Speaker 3: through the floor. And I just feel like that fearmongering
- 14:51Speaker 3: is obviously going to stress people out. And we're all
- 14:53Speaker 3: still super traumatized from everything that's happened, and as you say,
- 14:58Speaker 3: perhaps it's something that maybe we need to expect a
- 15:00Speaker 3: little bit and of course not take things lightly. Do
- 15:03Speaker 3: not take things lightly, make sure you're acting responsibly and
- 15:07Speaker 3: in line with the COVID safe regulations, all of those
- 15:09Speaker 3: good things, but expect things to be a little uncertain.
- 15:13Speaker 3: I think it might, as you said, just kind of
- 15:15Speaker 3: be our reality for a little bit, right, And I.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Think we really need to remember the process and the
- 15:20Speaker 2: psychology behind investing. And you're seeing a lot of people
- 15:23Speaker 2: being really reactive to this, and that's exactly what we're
- 15:26Speaker 2: trying to say, don't do. We're trying to say, hey, JS,
- 15:28Speaker 2: if your portfolio has gone down like that would be scary, right,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and all of our portfolios. If you're in like a
- 15:34Speaker 2: raise or like a spaceship, or even if you have
- 15:36Speaker 2: a six puck portfolio, that would have been impacted, because
- 15:39Speaker 2: that's how it works. But I think that we need
- 15:41Speaker 2: to remember that we're here for the long term and
- 15:44Speaker 2: a couple of percentage point drops is absolutely not the
- 15:47Speaker 2: end of the world. We just have to ride it out.
- 15:49Speaker 2: But too many people are perpetuating that drop by fear
- 15:54Speaker 2: selling and selling their shares. We're just further pushing the
- 15:57Speaker 2: share prices down because if you're and you're evacuating right now,
- 16:01Speaker 2: everybody else is like, oh my gosh, it must be worthless,
- 16:03Speaker 2: and so the share prices diminish. And in reality, that's
- 16:07Speaker 2: when we should be holding on because the roller coaster
- 16:09Speaker 2: will at some point go back up, and we want
- 16:11Speaker 2: to stay on, not get off at the bottom.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Something I remember you saying that has really stuck with me.
- 16:17Speaker 3: And this might have even been before I knew. This
- 16:19Speaker 3: might have been something you said on the pod way
- 16:21Speaker 3: back when. But you said that you only lose money
- 16:25Speaker 3: if you actually sell your shares. So if I bought
- 16:27Speaker 3: a sham for two dollars and right now it's worth
- 16:29Speaker 3: one dollar, and I sell it for a dollar, I've
- 16:31Speaker 3: lost half of my investment. But if I hold it
- 16:34Speaker 3: right now, while it's only worth one dollar, eventually, theoretically
- 16:39Speaker 3: past performance is not an accurate reflection.
- 16:41Speaker 2: She's a little baby financial planner.
- 16:44Speaker 3: But you know, theoretically, if you look at the stoff
- 16:46Speaker 3: market over long term, it will climb back up, and
- 16:49Speaker 3: it might take some time, but if I hold on
- 16:51Speaker 3: to it, that value will rise. And I've actually only
- 16:54Speaker 3: crystallized that loss. If I have sold in the dip, I.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Don't even need to be on this podcast anymore. You
- 17:00Speaker 2: two can just run the show. But that's literally what
- 17:02Speaker 2: it is. I think we need to start looking at
- 17:04Speaker 2: the share market as that is the price that you
- 17:08Speaker 2: would get if you've sold your shares today, not that
- 17:11Speaker 2: is the price that you are worth. Because if you had,
- 17:14Speaker 2: as you've said before, one share yesterday and it was
- 17:17Speaker 2: worth two dollars and tomorrow it is worth one dollar,
- 17:19Speaker 2: you still have that one share and it can increase
- 17:22Speaker 2: in price, and it can change it could even decrease
- 17:25Speaker 2: further in price. But you know what price doesn't tell you.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Price doesn't tell you how much you dividend payouts are
- 17:30Speaker 2: going to be. Price doesn't tell you how much money
- 17:33Speaker 2: you're going to make from that share and there's a
- 17:35Speaker 2: lot more value to be had than just looking at
- 17:37Speaker 2: the share price. So I think we need to educate
- 17:39Speaker 2: ourselves a bit better. We'll also be like, Okay, she's
- 17:42Speaker 2: on the money, thank you. That was actually a good reminder.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I was looking at it being a bit stressed. And
- 17:46Speaker 2: I think it's also really important to remember have you
- 17:48Speaker 2: ever seen a news article that says, oh my gosh,
- 17:53Speaker 2: the share market has increased by three percent.
- 17:56Speaker 3: They don't want to talk about the happy stuff, do they.
- 17:59Speaker 2: No, No, they don't. They just want to talk about
- 18:01Speaker 2: stuff that will get clicks and fearmonger and all of
- 18:04Speaker 2: that other stuff. So I think that we need to
- 18:05Speaker 2: just be quite diligent and quite well rounded and remember
- 18:08Speaker 2: that like the media only likes to show one side,
- 18:10Speaker 2: and that's the side that's going to sell their papers
- 18:13Speaker 2: or their website or their advertising or whatever it is.
- 18:15Speaker 2: There's no real story and being like, hey, jes did
- 18:17Speaker 2: you see yesterday good day in stock market? Like, no
- 18:21Speaker 2: one's going to do an entire article on that. But
- 18:23Speaker 2: when it crashes due to the omnicorn, like that's good article.
- 18:27Speaker 2: That's scary.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Let's read that, can I pepper a couple of cues
- 18:30Speaker 4: at uv? Oh?
- 18:32Speaker 5: Of course you can, gee, thanks so much. So would
- 18:34Speaker 5: you say then that it's maybe like a good time
- 18:36Speaker 5: to buy shites?
- 18:37Speaker 2: Oh, I could never say that. I think the only
- 18:39Speaker 2: time to buy shares is actually the time that is
- 18:42Speaker 2: right for you, and that's when you can afford it
- 18:44Speaker 2: and it makes sense for you. And I'm definitely not
- 18:46Speaker 2: someone who wants to time the market, because if I
- 18:49Speaker 2: could time the market, I would be a very rich lady.
- 18:51Speaker 2: But we can't. So it's all about investing consistently over
- 18:55Speaker 2: the long term. So if you're investing, like yes, absolutely,
- 18:58Speaker 2: now is a good time to invest, but so's tomorrow
- 19:02Speaker 2: and the next day and the next week and the
- 19:04Speaker 2: next month. Because what we want to do is a
- 19:06Speaker 2: thing called dollar cost averaging, and that's where we buy
- 19:10Speaker 2: over a long period of time at different points. It
- 19:13Speaker 2: might be once every six months. We're not saying it
- 19:16Speaker 2: has to be every single day. Might be once every
- 19:18Speaker 2: six months, but that means you're in the market every
- 19:22Speaker 2: single six months, or you're in the market every single month,
- 19:25Speaker 2: depending on how much money you have to invest in.
- 19:27Speaker 2: What makes sense when it comes to brokerage and stuff
- 19:29Speaker 2: like that. But you're in the market consistently because then
- 19:33Speaker 2: on average, you'll end up with the ups and the
- 19:36Speaker 2: downs of the market and you're paying an average share
- 19:38Speaker 2: price as opposed to maybe you just have a really
- 19:41Speaker 2: big lump sum of money and you drop it into
- 19:43Speaker 2: the market. How do you know that that's a good
- 19:46Speaker 2: time to buy. How do you know that's a bad
- 19:48Speaker 2: time to buy? You don't, So you're just accepting that
- 19:51Speaker 2: you're not going to have access to dollar cost averaging.
- 19:54Speaker 2: And I think that it's really really important to understand
- 19:57Speaker 2: that and actually make use of it. And that's why
- 19:59Speaker 2: we always talk on shoes on the money about investing
- 20:01Speaker 2: consistently over the long term, because we're not here for
- 20:04Speaker 2: a short time. We're here for a long time and
- 20:07Speaker 2: hopefully a really good one.
- 20:08Speaker 4: Yes, well said, thank you, thank you. So it's just
- 20:12Speaker 4: a it's a question for the.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Basic girls out there like me, who you know, have
- 20:16Speaker 5: been hosting a finance podcast for two years and still
- 20:17Speaker 5: don't really quite get it. So the reason the stock
- 20:22Speaker 5: market has plummeted, as they're saying, is that because like
- 20:26Speaker 5: big wig investors have pulled money out of like airline
- 20:30Speaker 5: companies and stuff like that. So it's caused a decrease
- 20:33Speaker 5: and then people are like getting scared about the lack
- 20:36Speaker 5: of value, so they're pulling out too.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Is that kind of like the jist?
- 20:39Speaker 3: Can I jump in? Do I know that? Do I
- 20:41Speaker 3: maybe know the answer to this?
- 20:42Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Well maybe I literally said that I
- 20:45Speaker 2: wasn't needed on this podcast anymore, So go.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Ahead, watch out, I'm coming for your job.
- 20:50Speaker 4: No.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Is it to do with consumer confidence, because I mean,
- 20:54Speaker 3: as you were saying before, people are like unsure. Maybe
- 20:57Speaker 3: they want to sell their shares, They're worried that what
- 20:59Speaker 3: happened and you know twelve to eighteen months ago is
- 21:01Speaker 3: going to happen again. And maybe they're just like, well,
- 21:04Speaker 3: if it's going to go lower, now's the times getting
- 21:06Speaker 3: my life boat and paddle away as fast as I can.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Yes, so that, but also it's about what it's worth,
- 21:12Speaker 2: so sometimes absolutely, But also it could be about mass exodus,
- 21:16Speaker 2: so people leaving the market in droves. So that might
- 21:20Speaker 2: be because an asset, let's say, a airline is held
- 21:24Speaker 2: in an ETF and as you guys know, if you
- 21:27Speaker 2: buy an ETF or an exchange traded fund, if you
- 21:29Speaker 2: don't know what I'm talking about. We have entire episodes
- 21:32Speaker 2: on it. Go back to our investing series. Have a
- 21:34Speaker 2: listen to that. I'm biased, but I think it's a
- 21:35Speaker 2: really good content. But it might be in an ETF
- 21:39Speaker 2: and a fund manager might make the decision to pull
- 21:42Speaker 2: that or sell that, or take their gains off the
- 21:45Speaker 2: table because they're like, oh, this new variants happening. I
- 21:47Speaker 2: just don't think that travel is going to be there.
- 21:49Speaker 2: So one person might have a really big way of
- 21:53Speaker 2: having a really big impact because heaps of people, millions
- 21:56Speaker 2: of people might own that ETF. So when it sells,
- 21:59Speaker 2: that's a mass exodus of that share. So then the
- 22:03Speaker 2: market starts to see it and Jess, you might have
- 22:05Speaker 2: bought that individually, and you see it decreasing in price,
- 22:08Speaker 2: and then you get on and you're right, it's kind
- 22:10Speaker 2: of like you're not confident in that anymore. Therefore it
- 22:13Speaker 2: decreases in price. But share price isn't just driven by
- 22:17Speaker 2: what people say, right, So like we know that when
- 22:20Speaker 2: Elon Musk tweets about Tesla, that could significantly impact his
- 22:25Speaker 2: share prices, and it's not because he just says something
- 22:28Speaker 2: and automatically somewhere in the magic world of shares, the
- 22:32Speaker 2: price changes. It's actually because it's reflective of people's actions
- 22:37Speaker 2: based on his words. So what would have happened is
- 22:40Speaker 2: more people would be buying it, and more people that
- 22:42Speaker 2: are buying an asset means that that's more in demand,
- 22:45Speaker 2: and demand drives price. So the more in demand something is,
- 22:49Speaker 2: the higher it's valued at. So that's how that works,
- 22:53Speaker 2: and it's more at this point in time, a lot
- 22:56Speaker 2: of people might have been selling. Therefore the share price
- 22:59Speaker 2: is dropping because the way the market would see it
- 23:01Speaker 2: is that share is not as sexy as it was yesterday.
- 23:04Speaker 2: We want something different. So it's literally down to your right, Jess,
- 23:08Speaker 2: consumer confidence. And when people start leaving an asset class
- 23:12Speaker 2: or an asset in general, you kind of go, oh,
- 23:15Speaker 2: why they believe it might not be that good? Don't
- 23:17Speaker 2: want to go there. Kind of when you walk past
- 23:19Speaker 2: a bar and you just see one person in it
- 23:21Speaker 2: and you're like, maybe I'll go across the road when
- 23:23Speaker 2: everybody else is there, because there must be something wrong
- 23:26Speaker 2: with that, even though it's not got anything to do
- 23:29Speaker 2: with their service or their quality or the product they're serving.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Is that kind of like in the same way that
- 23:34Speaker 3: we were just talking about how the media is kind of,
- 23:37Speaker 3: you know, dramatizing things. If we see those reports that
- 23:41Speaker 3: come out that say Quantus shares drop fifty percent, absolutely
- 23:45Speaker 3: has it happened.
- 23:46Speaker 2: You may not snap them off if they drop fifty run.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I'm just pulling numbers out of god knows where are.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I was excited for a hot second, but like.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Let's say there's some article, a clickbaity article like that,
- 23:58Speaker 3: and like, does that then have the potential to like
- 24:02Speaker 3: the elong Musk tweet reached a large number of people
- 24:05Speaker 3: and have a similar impact.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, And that's what's so cool about the Internet
- 24:10Speaker 2: at the moment. So we saw it semi recently. I
- 24:13Speaker 2: think it was like early this year. I can't remember
- 24:16Speaker 2: off the top of my head, but I did a
- 24:17Speaker 2: video that we put on our Instagram chess, and it
- 24:20Speaker 2: was about GameStop and how the share price of GameStop
- 24:24Speaker 2: had changed and essentially for people on the Internet had
- 24:27Speaker 2: decided to boycott this and they were able to because
- 24:31Speaker 2: of the way they were able to communicate. So it
- 24:33Speaker 2: wasn't an Elon Musk, it wasn't a Donald Trump tweeting,
- 24:36Speaker 2: It wasn't someone with massive influence. It was actually a
- 24:38Speaker 2: group of people that came together on readit online and
- 24:41Speaker 2: made a decision. So the idea that the stock market
- 24:44Speaker 2: can now be driven by people's choice, and if we
- 24:47Speaker 2: really wanted to band together and do something like you're
- 24:50Speaker 2: not allowed to it is illegal. But the idea that
- 24:54Speaker 2: that exists is kind of scary because there's this additional
- 24:57Speaker 2: layer sitting over the share market of what drives it.
- 25:00Speaker 2: It used to be actual demand, it used to be
- 25:02Speaker 2: actual resources and reading reports. But you know, I'm not
- 25:05Speaker 2: saying that this is a good idea. It's just an example,
- 25:08Speaker 2: and it's absolutely not something that she's on the money
- 25:10Speaker 2: would do. But imagine if she's on the money, as
- 25:12Speaker 2: a community got together and said, all right, let's tell
- 25:15Speaker 2: every one of our listeners to buy one share in
- 25:17Speaker 2: one business. We've now got a few million listeners. We
- 25:21Speaker 2: could have a massive impact if that's what we wanted
- 25:23Speaker 2: to do. But it's not the right thing to do,
- 25:25Speaker 2: and it's not something we would do, and obviously you'd
- 25:27Speaker 2: have to make sure that everyone was on board and
- 25:29Speaker 2: all of that. But we the share market can be
- 25:31Speaker 2: driven by so many different factors. It's not just things
- 25:34Speaker 2: that are out of our control anymore. It's actually kind
- 25:37Speaker 2: of scary that people can now control the markets if
- 25:41Speaker 2: they've got a strong enough strategy and plan. Kind of scary.
- 25:44Speaker 3: How easy. Well not to do a complete narrative change.
- 25:48Speaker 3: But can I steer the conversation back to Christmas?
- 25:50Speaker 5: Is that?
- 25:51Speaker 3: Okay?
- 25:52Speaker 2: Well you absolutely can. But I'm just gonna say I
- 25:54Speaker 2: did a really good segue earlier, and I thought that
- 25:57Speaker 2: you could learn from that and like segue and be like, yeah, yes,
- 26:00Speaker 2: driving markets having impact. Do you know what we can
- 26:02Speaker 2: have impact on small business?
- 26:05Speaker 3: Ah, she's so much better than me. Okay, take thank
- 26:07Speaker 3: you everything that I said about coming to your job.
- 26:09Speaker 3: You're safe and secure.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Oh, thank you. I'm just here for the segways. Jessica
- 26:13Speaker 2: now gives their financial advice. Thank you, come again.
- 26:17Speaker 3: So this week for a listener question, I picked one
- 26:20Speaker 3: very on theme, very on brand. She's all about Christmas,
- 26:22Speaker 3: which we love. It wasn't a voice memo though, so
- 26:25Speaker 3: if you want to get a voice memo on the show,
- 26:27Speaker 3: if you want to hear yourself on the pod, send
- 26:29Speaker 3: your question podcasts that she's on the money dot com
- 26:32Speaker 3: dot au. We love to see it. But Mary asked
- 26:36Speaker 3: Christmas is coming up, and I want to buy gifts
- 26:39Speaker 3: for friends and family. I want to spoil them, But
- 26:41Speaker 3: I feel really uncomfortable with the idea of contributing to
- 26:44Speaker 3: the mass consumer mindset that seems to be going on.
- 26:47Speaker 3: How do I balance my love for my friends and
- 26:49Speaker 3: family with my own personal ethics? Which I thought was
- 26:51Speaker 3: an excellent question, and my answer to that would be
- 26:55Speaker 3: shop small business. You know, there's so many great little
- 26:59Speaker 3: business is out there that have really cool, unique, ethically
- 27:03Speaker 3: sourced and produced products, and I thought maybe if you
- 27:07Speaker 3: guys were down, we could all maybe share a couple
- 27:10Speaker 3: of our favor small businesses to give people some Christmas ideas,
- 27:13Speaker 3: because one, we love to shop small. I think there's
- 27:16Speaker 3: that meme or that little video that goes around that says,
- 27:19Speaker 3: every time you shop from a small business, someone somewhere
- 27:21Speaker 3: does a happy dance, and I just love.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Yes.
- 27:24Speaker 3: I love thinking that someone is excited with my business.
- 27:27Speaker 3: I love thinking that I'm getting something unique and beautiful
- 27:30Speaker 3: that was crafted with love. And if I may say
- 27:32Speaker 3: so myself, we're all ladies of immaculate taste, so.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Yously obviously so in saying that, I'll go last because
- 27:41Speaker 2: I have the least to bring to the table when
- 27:44Speaker 2: it comes to having fruit taste. Oh, Jess, I mainly
- 27:47Speaker 2: just be like, oh, cute dress, Jess, where's that from?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Maybe I'll copy you, like that's literruly how my mind works. So, Georgia,
- 27:53Speaker 2: what have you got straight off the bat?
- 27:55Speaker 3: Okay?
- 27:55Speaker 4: I have so many? What's my limit?
- 27:57Speaker 2: Here?
- 27:57Speaker 4: Tell me?
- 27:58Speaker 2: Ladies? Oh three? You get three?
- 28:00Speaker 3: Okay?
- 28:00Speaker 2: Okay? And then maybe at the end if there's one
- 28:02Speaker 2: that you're like, throw this wild card in there.
- 28:04Speaker 4: You can love it. Maybe I'll even throw them in
- 28:06Speaker 4: the newsletter this week, you know.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Instead, it's just like one be around.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Us that if you want to join our newsletter mailing list.
- 28:16Speaker 3: By the way, it's on our website. You can sign up.
- 28:18Speaker 3: It's really great. George doesn't immaculate job? Right?
- 28:21Speaker 2: Sis? You do your funny goal?
- 28:24Speaker 4: Thanks so much. Okay, So I'm going to choose.
- 28:30Speaker 5: I think I'm going to go with a jewelry brand
- 28:32Speaker 5: that I adore. It's okay, Chloe Sophia Jewels. Full disclosure,
- 28:38Speaker 5: she's my best friend.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Okay, good choice, though great choice, turns out pays to
- 28:43Speaker 2: be friends with.
- 28:44Speaker 5: She's on the money, correct, correct, No, her jewels are incredible.
- 28:48Speaker 5: They're all completely handcrafted. Her specialty is silversmithing. Like she's
- 28:55Speaker 5: she's a genie staying.
- 28:56Speaker 2: That at the bar. What do you do? I'm a
- 28:58Speaker 2: silver smith exactly.
- 29:00Speaker 4: It's very cool, very chic, but closed stuff.
- 29:03Speaker 5: It's kind of at that medium price point, so you
- 29:06Speaker 5: could pick something up maybe from between fifty dollars to
- 29:09Speaker 5: maybe two hundred, depending on what you're after. But the
- 29:12Speaker 5: difference is is that these products are handmade by a
- 29:15Speaker 5: gal just trying to make it out on the New
- 29:17Speaker 5: South Wales coast. And yeah, by supporting her, you're doing
- 29:21Speaker 5: a really good thing and her stuff is amazing. So
- 29:24Speaker 5: if you still need some little gifties, would really recommend.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Chloe Sophia Jewels. Oh I love that? Can I have
- 29:32Speaker 4: two more?
- 29:33Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, I said, I love that. I'm waiting for
- 29:36Speaker 2: the next two, George, Okay.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Second one is Curio Practice.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Now these are super speno, not going to lie about it,
- 29:45Speaker 5: but again they're handcrafted. They're these extremely beautiful blankets. They're
- 29:51Speaker 5: in the checked print that you guys will have seen
- 29:53Speaker 5: everywhere at the moment. But if you have a little Google,
- 29:56Speaker 5: they are just so chic. They're made by a queen
- 30:01Speaker 5: in Melbourne. I think they're like hand they're not hand knitted.
- 30:06Speaker 5: I don't really I'm not a crafty girl. Woven perhaps woven,
- 30:11Speaker 5: you guys will have to tell me. But they're amazing
- 30:13Speaker 5: if you're looking for something really substantial for your partner
- 30:16Speaker 5: or someone that you really like, or maybe yourself. And
- 30:20Speaker 5: my last recommendation would be Kate Macendo, who's another local
- 30:25Speaker 5: jeweler on the Mornington Peninsula who makes beautiful stuff at
- 30:28Speaker 5: a similar price point to Chloe's stuff.
- 30:30Speaker 4: So jewels, girls, we love.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Oh, I love that. I feel like you've covered the jewelry.
- 30:35Speaker 2: I'll make sure I tick that off. There's something I
- 30:37Speaker 2: don't cover, so jess what have you got?
- 30:41Speaker 3: As I've said before, I am a lover of a
- 30:44Speaker 3: practical gift. I think if you can give something to
- 30:47Speaker 3: someone that they use every day. And this was very
- 30:49Speaker 3: divisive when I said it last time. I think I
- 30:51Speaker 3: said it when we did our Instagram livea and some
- 30:54Speaker 3: people were like, yes, give me practicality, and some people
- 30:57Speaker 3: were like, do not give me a kitchen appliance for Christmas?
- 31:00Speaker 2: I will apologies if you take in.
- 31:03Speaker 3: To camp B. I'm firmly camp A. But there's a
- 31:07Speaker 3: little small bis that I found on Instagram called Style
- 31:09Speaker 3: where they're very new and they do beautiful chic stay
- 31:14Speaker 3: with me tupperware, which I know, I know in me,
- 31:19Speaker 3: I know, have a look at have a look at
- 31:22Speaker 3: them on Instagram because as someone who is trying to
- 31:25Speaker 3: be really responsible, take her lunch places with her, bring
- 31:28Speaker 3: it into work when we're back in the office, all
- 31:30Speaker 3: those fun things.
- 31:31Speaker 2: I actually really like that idea.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and they're stunning, Like, have a look on the Instagram.
- 31:36Speaker 3: They're monochromatic, they're silicon, they're BP free, they're beautiful in
- 31:41Speaker 3: very chic colors. I'm currently on the wait list for
- 31:44Speaker 3: a beautiful blush pink set because they're stunning.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Of course, you are also what a good present coming
- 31:50Speaker 2: out of COVID and knowing everybody's going back to work,
- 31:53Speaker 2: I want a lunch box for Christmas.
- 31:55Speaker 4: But that's so.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Thoughtful and it's the kind of thing as well that
- 31:58Speaker 3: if you took it into the office, I guarantee you
- 32:00Speaker 3: someone will be like, I love that. Where's that from?
- 32:02Speaker 3: They have like little silicon leads. They keep your food
- 32:05Speaker 3: really fresh. I know it might be a bit boring,
- 32:07Speaker 3: but that.
- 32:08Speaker 2: No, it's not. No, I think that's great.
- 32:10Speaker 3: The person you give it too will use it every day.
- 32:11Speaker 3: If you want to spice it up, throw a little
- 32:13Speaker 3: food item in with the gift, maybe pop it in
- 32:15Speaker 3: the tapp away, wrap it up really cute with a
- 32:16Speaker 3: little bow on it. So that was my first one,
- 32:19Speaker 3: and then I also have two more. My second one
- 32:23Speaker 3: is a little more fun. I don't know if you
- 32:25Speaker 3: guys have heard of croct They got really popular during Lockdown.
- 32:29Speaker 3: It's a pottery company and they sell these clay kits,
- 32:33Speaker 3: so you can get click a kit for just you
- 32:35Speaker 3: or a kit for a number of people, and they'll
- 32:37Speaker 3: literally post you out a slab of clay, some materials.
- 32:41Speaker 3: You sit down. You can make a little date day
- 32:43Speaker 3: of it, or you can do it for yourself. As
- 32:46Speaker 3: someone who pre Lockdown got very into throwing pottery on
- 32:50Speaker 3: a wheel. It's super fun. You can make something cool.
- 32:53Speaker 3: You can keep it and then they can drop it off.
- 32:55Speaker 3: They can glaze it, they can fire it, you can
- 32:56Speaker 3: do all sorts of fun things. It's something the person
- 32:59Speaker 3: you gift it too. Can you do it by themselves
- 33:01Speaker 3: or you could do it together as a fun activity.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Can you tell I'm really into the crafty stuff. Very
- 33:09Speaker 3: and then my last small bees will not come as
- 33:11Speaker 3: a surprise. It's an artist who does beautiful, beautiful prints.
- 33:14Speaker 3: We actually have one in our office.
- 33:16Speaker 2: No, the Naderna ones.
- 33:18Speaker 4: Yes, that's on my least.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Sorry I knew.
- 33:22Speaker 3: No, that's okay, coming with double the recommendations from the team.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Then we have a huge print of hers in our
- 33:28Speaker 3: office that is stunning, and she does everything from a
- 33:31Speaker 3: four through to like a one or a zero or whatever.
- 33:34Speaker 3: The biggest one is so you can get anything for
- 33:36Speaker 3: any price point. If you want to make it a
- 33:37Speaker 3: little booze, you can get it with a frame or
- 33:40Speaker 3: frame it yourself. They're just beautiful. Her work is so
- 33:43Speaker 3: colorful and warm.
- 33:45Speaker 4: It's indigenous art, isn't it.
- 33:46Speaker 3: It is indigenous art, and it's in that traditional dot
- 33:49Speaker 3: painting style, which I think is beautiful. But just the
- 33:52Speaker 3: colors are very earthy, and there's just something about it
- 33:55Speaker 3: that really speaks to me personally. And I think it's
- 33:57Speaker 3: such a lovely gift because people seldom buy themselves, as
- 34:01Speaker 3: I think, and so it's something that's really lovely to have,
- 34:04Speaker 3: and even better, it receives a gift.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Oh I love that.
- 34:08Speaker 3: How about you? I know that I just stole one
- 34:09Speaker 3: of yours. I'm very sorry. But what else?
- 34:11Speaker 2: God, It's okay, I have something really similar. I have
- 34:14Speaker 2: something different. I have found gifts for everybody. Are you ready?
- 34:17Speaker 2: So first is Rachel Sarah. So Rachel Sarah is another
- 34:21Speaker 2: indigenous artist and does gorgeous stuff, but she has a
- 34:25Speaker 2: diverse range of offerings. So the thing that I love
- 34:29Speaker 2: is her planners and her calendars, which I think are
- 34:32Speaker 2: really gorgeous. She also does notebooks and key rings and
- 34:35Speaker 2: really gorgeous totes, So I feel like that's a really
- 34:39Speaker 2: good gift idea. So the next thing, I think I
- 34:42Speaker 2: have more than three? Am I allowed more than three?
- 34:44Speaker 2: I'll be real quick you get to Yeah, flex mummy,
- 34:49Speaker 2: I have seen these, and I think I'm going to
- 34:52Speaker 2: buy a few for friends for Christmas. But for under
- 34:55Speaker 2: fifty bucks, you can get a gift from her small business.
- 34:59Speaker 2: And the one that I've been looking at is the
- 35:01Speaker 2: questions you really want to answer critical thinking conversation card games,
- 35:05Speaker 2: because I just think that would be really fun. I
- 35:07Speaker 2: loved doing the Cards against Humanity kind of thing, but
- 35:10Speaker 2: I like this kind of tangent we're going on into
- 35:12Speaker 2: actually asking people questions, so that we can get to
- 35:15Speaker 2: know them better. And it just seems like a really
- 35:17Speaker 2: nice thing to pull out when you're having a drink
- 35:19Speaker 2: with a few of your girlfriends. So that felt really good.
- 35:23Speaker 2: The next is for I won't say for the ladies,
- 35:27Speaker 2: but it's lipstick. It is from Lulu Lips, and Lulu
- 35:30Speaker 2: Lips is run by Louise and Louise is the makeup
- 35:34Speaker 2: artist that I have been working with a fair bit
- 35:36Speaker 2: on a few campaigns and she has used her products
- 35:39Speaker 2: on me and every single time I've been like, what
- 35:42Speaker 2: is this lipstick? And she's like, oh, it's mine. And
- 35:45Speaker 2: I thought when she was saying it's mine, she meant
- 35:48Speaker 2: like it's mine from my kick because I'm a makeup artist.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Victoria.
- 35:51Speaker 2: No, she made it gorgeous packaging. She even has a
- 35:54Speaker 2: lipstick called Victoria, which I have been wearing religiously. She
- 35:57Speaker 2: does really cute gift packs. You get a free little
- 35:59Speaker 2: makeup bag and a cookie. I just feel like that's
- 36:02Speaker 2: really cute. She's Melbourne based and a legend. The next
- 36:05Speaker 2: one is candles, because, as you guys know, I'm obsessed
- 36:08Speaker 2: with candles. I love the Sunday Blue candles. So they
- 36:14Speaker 2: have a blood orange candle that I'm obsessed with. The
- 36:16Speaker 2: fresh linen one is really really good, and the jasmine
- 36:19Speaker 2: and honeysuckle is next level. Gorgeous packaging, gorgeous branding, Melbourne based. Again,
- 36:25Speaker 2: you can't go wrong. And then, guys, are you ready?
- 36:29Speaker 2: I have found a gift for the person that is
- 36:32Speaker 2: ungiftable my dad. Ha ha ha, Well maybe not actually,
- 36:37Speaker 2: maybe I take that back. It's probably for She's on
- 36:39Speaker 2: the Money esque li Smak, So if they don't listen
- 36:41Speaker 2: to Shees on the Money, they're probably not that interested
- 36:43Speaker 2: in this. But I find gift giving for a number
- 36:46Speaker 2: of my friends really hard. But the next one is
- 36:50Speaker 2: from a small business based here in Melbourne and it
- 36:53Speaker 2: is from an artist called Corey Ashford. And I discovered
- 36:56Speaker 2: this as I was just going through the internet looking
- 36:59Speaker 2: for presents. But he has this gorgeous oyster incense holder.
- 37:04Speaker 2: It's eighty dollars. It's not a present that I would
- 37:06Speaker 2: just give to anybody. But if you can't think of
- 37:10Speaker 2: a gift, consider something from his store because he has
- 37:13Speaker 2: made these gorgeous gold oyster shells. They are just so pretty.
- 37:19Speaker 2: There are an incense holder, but I reckon that could
- 37:22Speaker 2: be multifunctional as like a little ring dish or something
- 37:25Speaker 2: that would sit beside your bed, Like it literally looks
- 37:28Speaker 2: like a small piece of art. I think it's gorgeous.
- 37:30Speaker 2: And that is my last gift recommendation. I've never met Corey,
- 37:35Speaker 2: but I just feel like Corey sounds like a good hit. Yeah,
- 37:39Speaker 2: I just I really liked it, and I was like,
- 37:41Speaker 2: do you know what someone gifted me that I'd be like,
- 37:43Speaker 2: that's really thoughtful because it looks like a ring dish,
- 37:46Speaker 2: like I could use it as that, like incense in it.
- 37:48Speaker 2: It just it feels like a luxury present that you
- 37:50Speaker 2: wouldn't buy for yourself anyway. None of these have been sponsored, guys,
- 37:54Speaker 2: just so you know, like nobody's spoken to anybody who's
- 37:56Speaker 2: been mentioned on this list, nor if they asked to
- 37:59Speaker 2: be included. It's just George, Jess and I having a
- 38:01Speaker 2: bit of a banter about the products that we think
- 38:04Speaker 2: would be really fun to purchase. So yeah, that's that
- 38:07Speaker 2: little non sponsorship disclaimer.
- 38:10Speaker 3: You know what I'll do, I'll chuck a thread up
- 38:12Speaker 3: in the FACI group today as well, so you can
- 38:15Speaker 3: share your favor small business purchases from a business that
- 38:18Speaker 3: you want to support. I feel like this time of year,
- 38:20Speaker 3: great question for Mary. If you don't want to shop big,
- 38:23Speaker 3: if you want to give something thoughtful, and if you
- 38:25Speaker 3: want to make somebody's day shops more. There's so many
- 38:28Speaker 3: fantastic options out there.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Please fill it full of your friend's businesses as well.
- 38:34Speaker 2: I feel like so many times our friends have businesses
- 38:37Speaker 2: and we don't promote them as much as we should.
- 38:40Speaker 2: If your friend has a small business and sells a
- 38:42Speaker 2: cool product that you think would be suitable for someone's
- 38:44Speaker 2: Christmas present, drop it in the thread. I want to
- 38:46Speaker 2: see it. I want to hear it, I want to
- 38:47Speaker 2: look at it like I want to celebrate them, because
- 38:49Speaker 2: small business is obviously something I'm wildly passionate about.
- 38:53Speaker 5: Just one more plug to the newsletter as well, Gales.

- 38:58Speaker 5: week in the newsletter, and we're always looking for more nominations.
