- 0:02Speaker 1: Life audio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Today, I'll talk about that. John goes on a fast
- 0:07Speaker 2: to get ready for his time on camera and makes
- 0:09Speaker 2: a staunch defense of Green Peppers. Meanwhile, I tell you
- 0:13Speaker 2: the harrowing tale of a gnarly scooter crash that temporarily
- 0:16Speaker 2: derailed my comedy tour but might have actually improved my nose. Well,
- 0:20Speaker 2: that's a conversation about what good really means and why
- 0:23Speaker 2: God is trustworthy but not predictable. Today's episode is not
- 0:27Speaker 2: sponsored by Acoustic Guitars, ruining bonfire parties since eighteen fifty.
- 0:31Speaker 2: But first a word from our actual sponsor.
- 0:42Speaker 3: What's about their podcast Universe? It's John and Johnny back
- 0:46Speaker 3: for talk about that. It's been a minute, Johnny.
- 0:49Speaker 2: We had a little bit of a hiatus. Yeah, how
- 0:54Speaker 2: are you doing.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I don't think we're not going hate.
- 0:57Speaker 2: No, we're not doing that.
- 0:58Speaker 1: We're not going right into me.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Guys.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Johnny's been through He's seen some bad stuff.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I have seen some bad stuff. Yeah, yeah, we have.
- 1:07Speaker 2: We've had a few episodes over the past couple of
- 1:09Speaker 2: years where we talk about our health disasters.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 2: And then when we know where you listened to him,
- 1:18Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, this sounds like old people talking. But
- 1:21Speaker 2: I had a moment this past weekend for sure. And
- 1:24Speaker 2: I know some of you guys that follow my socials,
- 1:26Speaker 2: you already know that it happened. But but people have
- 1:29Speaker 2: already been telling me, I want the full debrief. Yeah,
- 1:32Speaker 2: And I can't wait to hear the podcast where you
- 1:34Speaker 2: talk about what happened. But I was out on tour
- 1:39Speaker 2: on the bus tour, which is the long awaited bus tour,
- 1:45Speaker 2: which I was very excited about. We've had so much
- 1:48Speaker 2: fun the live and Laughing tour, and so I had
- 1:51Speaker 2: opening comics with me. We've got a whole crew and
- 1:53Speaker 2: it's a whole thing. It's a big machine. It's a
- 1:55Speaker 2: lot of pressure, but super fun. And we're in Arkansas,
- 2:00Speaker 2: and uh, when I do these tour days with Nate Pergatsy,
- 2:04Speaker 2: he has scooters on the bus on the that they
- 2:08Speaker 2: bring with them, the little e scooters, the little zip
- 2:11Speaker 2: around electric scooters, like those bird scooters like you'd see
- 2:14Speaker 2: the town Line scooters, Bird whatever. And so I was like,
- 2:19Speaker 2: when we get a bus tour, I'm getting some of
- 2:20Speaker 2: those scooters and I've ridden them a bunch, Like we
- 2:22Speaker 2: go when we go to downtown somewhere, I'll ride them
- 2:24Speaker 2: or whatever, and I've I've been on those things. I
- 2:25Speaker 2: have I have incredible bat ones. Let me just start
- 2:28Speaker 2: by saying that.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Uh.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And so I was like, I'm getting some of those.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So I did. I researched it, and I got some
- 2:34Speaker 2: dumb Chinese knockoff ones on Amazon. And I was like, well,
- 2:37Speaker 2: I hope these don't catch fire into the bus because
- 2:39Speaker 2: here we come, and we got four of them, and
- 2:41Speaker 2: we've been using them on the roape. We're in Arkansas
- 2:44Speaker 2: and I'm on it and Adam Bush, who's with us
- 2:48Speaker 2: as one of the openers who also helps produce the podcast.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Hello Adam and Christian McCartin, and who's young, and neither
- 2:58Speaker 2: neither of them. I don't think we're comfortable on scooters,
- 3:01Speaker 2: which surprised me because Adam's a little younger than me.
- 3:04Speaker 2: He's not young, but he's younger than me. And Christian's
- 3:06Speaker 2: twenty four. And he's like, how do you do these?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Or whatever? I think he literally asked me how do
- 3:10Speaker 2: you I go? Come on, dude. So I was kind
- 3:13Speaker 2: of showing them, hey, don't turn lean. I literally said it,
- 3:17Speaker 2: don't turn lean, you know, because if you don't turn
- 3:20Speaker 2: a scooter because the turning rate is not You don't
- 3:22Speaker 2: turn the handlebars on a scooter. It's like a bike.
- 3:24Speaker 2: You lean to turn. So we're in this parking lot
- 3:28Speaker 2: of this performing arts center at a high school, getting
- 3:30Speaker 2: ready to do a show. I was going to sound
- 3:32Speaker 2: check in an hour. This was Thursday of ten days ago,
- 3:36Speaker 2: about ten or eleven days ago, and we're riding the
- 3:41Speaker 2: it was a windy day. We're right in the parking
- 3:43Speaker 2: lot and we're zipping around. These things go about twenty
- 3:45Speaker 2: miles an hour. Yeah, and I'd been riding for about
- 3:49Speaker 2: five minutes and we're zipping around past each other and
- 3:52Speaker 2: my hat blows off and they go, WHOA. I look
- 3:57Speaker 2: back for my hat just to see kind of where
- 3:59Speaker 2: it lands, because I was a turn around and go
- 4:02Speaker 2: get it. And I don't know if I looking away
- 4:05Speaker 2: caused me to lose my balance or I literally like
- 4:08Speaker 2: instinctively turned the handlebars when I looked back to my
- 4:11Speaker 2: left right. But all I know is when I immediately
- 4:15Speaker 2: felt the scooter out of control and I could not
- 4:20Speaker 2: get control back of it, and I knew I'm coming
- 4:22Speaker 2: off this thing. It was like two seconds, two seconds,
- 4:24Speaker 2: and it was over what a horrifying feeling. It was.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I mean, you're out of control, and I know I'm
- 4:28Speaker 2: hitting hard. Whatever I'm gonna hit, I'm gonna hit hard.
- 4:31Speaker 2: And so I think I tried to plant with this foot,
- 4:34Speaker 2: my left foot, coming off the scooter, and that's really
- 4:37Speaker 2: the last thing I remember as far as like where
- 4:39Speaker 2: I because I had no choice where I was going
- 4:41Speaker 2: to impact. I planted with his foot, sprained it pretty badly,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and then face first into the pavement and then I
- 4:49Speaker 2: just kind of sat up, so I was conscious. I
- 4:51Speaker 2: sat up and I immediately feel like blood pouring out
- 4:55Speaker 2: of my face. And Adam runs over. He said he'd
- 4:59Speaker 2: like aft first, which hurts a little, but I get it.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yeah, nervous probably.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah, And uh no, I mean it's just one of
- 5:05Speaker 2: the things that I'm like, you knucklehead. And then you
- 5:07Speaker 2: walk over and see somebody's face and you go, oh,
- 5:09Speaker 2: he's really hurt. And he goes, did you break your nose?
- 5:12Speaker 2: And I go, I don't know, And blood's just pouring
- 5:14Speaker 2: on my face and uh, I didn't have anything. Of course,
- 5:18Speaker 2: I'm in the parking lot. I grab my shirt. I
- 5:19Speaker 2: start like and I mean my shirts just soaked in blood.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Just from like touching it to my face and I
- 5:23Speaker 2: go all right, and I got up. I was just
- 5:25Speaker 2: in shock. I'll walk like half a mile to the
- 5:29Speaker 2: venue and Jordan, the tour manager, comes out, and he
- 5:32Speaker 2: didn't see me. He saw like side view of me,
- 5:34Speaker 2: and I'm kind of still like covering my face a
- 5:36Speaker 2: little bit, and he goes, hey, do you get your
- 5:39Speaker 2: dinner order in? I go, yeah, yeah, yeah, and I'm
- 5:41Speaker 2: like just trying to get to a mirror to see
- 5:43Speaker 2: like how bad is this?
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:45Speaker 2: You know, and it was not good. I actually, we'll
- 5:48Speaker 2: show a photo in the video. We'll oh, yeah, I
- 5:50Speaker 2: don't care because I'm all better now. Well I'm not
- 5:52Speaker 2: all better, but I'm a little crusty still, but we're
- 5:54Speaker 2: I mean, I'm I'm passable. But yeah, it was so bad.
- 5:59Speaker 2: So I go to the Yar and I immediately knew, like,
- 6:02Speaker 2: we're not doing these shows. We're not doing They were like, well,
- 6:06Speaker 2: we'll cancel tonight, and then they were kind of like
- 6:08Speaker 2: we'll hold on the others. And I was like once
- 6:11Speaker 2: once I went to the Yar and I just knew
- 6:13Speaker 2: it's like, we're not this is not.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Something we want to run. Cat skins and yeah, you
- 6:17Speaker 3: can't just do like we'll put a you know, makeup.
- 6:19Speaker 2: You can't put makeup on these wounds like it is.
- 6:22Speaker 2: They're fresh wounds. And then I got stitches in my
- 6:24Speaker 2: there's a bridge of my nose, which this will be
- 6:26Speaker 2: a nice car. I got a nice gouge there, uh
- 6:30Speaker 2: that they put stitches in. And then I have like
- 6:33Speaker 2: a chunk of my under my nostril. I have like
- 6:35Speaker 2: a chunk of meat that just kind of is gone
- 6:38Speaker 2: and uh so it's healed up now, but there's no
- 6:41Speaker 2: follicles there. So I'll have a nice little notch in
- 6:43Speaker 2: my mustache forever more. Probably That's what I'm Yeah, so
- 6:47Speaker 2: I'm just gonna do a comb over. That's what I've decided.
- 6:51Speaker 2: But so yeah, so I literally we went home from
- 6:53Speaker 2: the tour and we uh, we just drove the bus
- 6:58Speaker 2: back like we got back from the the hospital. They
- 7:01Speaker 2: ran all these scans. They said, well, your nose is
- 7:03Speaker 2: fractured and both nasal cavities. Your nose is fractured. You'll
- 7:08Speaker 2: need to go see an e n T to see
- 7:09Speaker 2: whether I need surgery to repair. But it wasn't displaced
- 7:12Speaker 2: like I could tell, Like my nose has always been
- 7:14Speaker 2: I've always had like a dva sefton, a little bit
- 7:16Speaker 2: wonky nose.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Fixed it.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I think, you know what's funny, It does look better.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, is it weird? Like it does not
- 7:23Speaker 2: like I used to have one nostril that when you
- 7:24Speaker 2: look underneath, which is a lot of how people see
- 7:26Speaker 2: me from stage, they see underneath my nose, and it's
- 7:29Speaker 2: kind of like one nostril's always a little bit slanty.
- 7:33Speaker 2: And I swear to you it's not that. It's not
- 7:34Speaker 2: that way anymore. They're kind of even now.
- 7:36Speaker 1: God, They'm not just like want that preach.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I mean sometimes some of y'all need to anyway. There's
- 7:42Speaker 2: a lot of sermon illustrations from this, but the main
- 7:44Speaker 2: one I would say is, uh, you can always get
- 7:48Speaker 2: another hat. Whatever that thing, whatever that hat is to you,
- 7:52Speaker 2: let it go, man, let that thing go. Yeah, you
- 7:55Speaker 2: can always double back for that hat. Keep your eyes ahead,
- 7:57Speaker 2: don't look back. You were like Lot's wife. Was I
- 8:01Speaker 2: turned into a pillar of blood, pillar of epsom salts.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It was bad, dude. So yeah, so I've so we
- 8:09Speaker 2: got back home, and I mean I felt such a
- 8:12Speaker 2: wave of sadness for not just the lost income, because
- 8:17Speaker 2: we had to cancel two weekends of shows, not just
- 8:19Speaker 2: this one, because I just was not healed up enough
- 8:21Speaker 2: to go out even the second weekend. And but just
- 8:26Speaker 2: the wave of like there's a crew of people that
- 8:29Speaker 2: are now like in my care in a way because
- 8:32Speaker 2: this is a machine that's got my name on it,
- 8:34Speaker 2: and so this is people losing paydays because of my
- 8:37Speaker 2: dumb two seconds two seconds of dumb. So yeah, it was.
- 8:42Speaker 2: It was kind of a grief feeling, but also like
- 8:45Speaker 2: just how stupid. And I've learned this, John. The thing
- 8:48Speaker 2: I've learned the most is not all near death experiences,
- 8:50Speaker 2: because that's what it was. If we're honest, Like I
- 8:52Speaker 2: could have easily died. Oh people die on these things
- 8:54Speaker 2: all the time. Oh yeah, my head hit. It's just
- 8:57Speaker 2: a matter of like how bad was the because I
- 8:59Speaker 2: had a concushion for sure. Yeah, just a matter of like, yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 2: I could have had a brain bleed. I could have
- 9:04Speaker 2: a skull fracture. I didn't break any teeth, although it
- 9:06Speaker 2: drove my teeth into my mouth so hard. I mean
- 9:09Speaker 2: I had so many mouth sores. I couldn't talk the
- 9:10Speaker 2: first three days. I why I didn't call you. I
- 9:12Speaker 2: was just texting you.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you were like it hurts too.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I was like, I can't talk. Yeah, so but yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'm kind of healed up now a lot better, and
- 9:19Speaker 2: we're going back out on the road, thank god. And
- 9:21Speaker 2: I feel so bad for the people who had tickets,
- 9:23Speaker 2: and so we're trying to get all that sorted out.
- 9:24Speaker 2: So if that's you and you're out there and you're
- 9:26Speaker 2: wondering all the rescheduled dates, we are working on it,
- 9:28Speaker 2: I promise, And I feel so terrible, and I appreciate
- 9:31Speaker 2: anybody that ever bought a ticket to my show. But
- 9:33Speaker 2: I've learned not all near death experiences are created equal,
- 9:36Speaker 2: because this is kind of a dumb one, Like you
- 9:41Speaker 2: don't want to you know what I'm saying. You Like,
- 9:44Speaker 2: it's almost like I gave myself third degree burns with
- 9:46Speaker 2: a sparkler, you know what I mean. It's like, it's
- 9:48Speaker 2: the dumbest I did that one time? The dumb did
- 9:50Speaker 2: you really?
- 9:51Speaker 1: I as a kid, it hurt, wow, But you're ashamed
- 9:53Speaker 1: because it's just.
- 9:53Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, you're like, this could have been an
- 9:56Speaker 2: M eight if I was a cool kid, Like I
- 9:58Speaker 2: wish it had been a Harley at least you know.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Man, didn't another comedian have the erect day.
- 10:05Speaker 2: There's a Stavros Hawkish. He's a big podcaster in comic
- 10:09Speaker 2: and he was I think he was headed to film
- 10:11Speaker 2: his Netflix special that weekend on a bird scooter in
- 10:15Speaker 2: some metro area. Yeah, And he was riding one and
- 10:20Speaker 2: his hat started to fly off. He reached up to
- 10:23Speaker 2: keep it from flying off, and that caused him to
- 10:25Speaker 2: lose his balance. He fell over. It broke his arm.
- 10:26Speaker 2: He had one of those like robotic weird contraptions on
- 10:29Speaker 2: his arm that like keeps it all in place, the
- 10:31Speaker 2: big mechanical cast and uh so he had to move
- 10:35Speaker 2: his taping to July. It was the same day. Wow,
- 10:38Speaker 2: I don't even it might have been this. What if
- 10:39Speaker 2: it was the same minute.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Wow.
- 10:41Speaker 2: If we switch souls like one of those weird freaky
- 10:43Speaker 2: Friday movies.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Wow.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I mean yeah, but it means it happens to other people.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I mean it does.
- 10:48Speaker 3: That's the thing why city's banned those things.
- 10:50Speaker 2: But it is weird. It's like people have asked me,
- 10:53Speaker 2: here's here's the part of it bumps me out. They go,
- 10:56Speaker 2: how old are you? First of all, you're too old
- 10:58Speaker 2: to be on these things. That's just not true. Okay, listen,
- 11:01Speaker 2: I'm very coordinated. Yeah, Mago, it is the first time
- 11:05Speaker 2: you'd ever That's that's the one that really bought me
- 11:06Speaker 2: the most. Had you been on those before? I go, yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 2: this was mine.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I own it.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I own it. I've been on them a million.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Times, and I own you or something like, I don't
- 11:14Speaker 1: know it.
- 11:15Speaker 2: But all that said, it was a learning experience, an
- 11:18Speaker 2: expensive one. Still waiting on the er bill, but it's
- 11:21Speaker 2: going to be I have a high deductible plan. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 2: like a lot of Americans that have health insurance, even
- 11:28Speaker 2: if you have it, you have a high deductible plan probably,
- 11:30Speaker 2: And so yeah, it's going to be a minute before
- 11:32Speaker 2: I pay down that. But we're alive and we're going
- 11:36Speaker 2: back out to tell jokes, and I'm excited about that.
- 11:38Speaker 2: And I'm very grateful that I was not more badly injured,
- 11:42Speaker 2: because it could have gone way worse.
- 11:43Speaker 3: It could have. You scared.
- 11:45Speaker 1: You scared me pretty badly.
- 11:46Speaker 3: So I got it to Adam texted me yeah, and
- 11:49Speaker 3: he was like, I don't know if you've heard, but
- 11:51Speaker 3: Johnny fell and had a pretty bad accident. And I
- 11:55Speaker 3: was like, first thing, I said, is is this a joke?
- 11:58Speaker 3: Because I can just see you guys on the bus, like,
- 12:01Speaker 3: and he was.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Like, wow, that's what we don't do that I never
- 12:03Speaker 2: would do.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Well, I know you don't.
- 12:09Speaker 3: I know, maybe this was you know, you guys are
- 12:11Speaker 3: out there having your high jinks out on your bus
- 12:14Speaker 3: tour or whatever. But then.
- 12:16Speaker 2: See what he does.
- 12:17Speaker 1: But then he called yeah, oh no.
- 12:20Speaker 3: I was like, hey man, yeah, not a joke, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 3: and he kind of told me what happened. I was like,
- 12:23Speaker 3: you're kiddings. I reached out to Curry immediately, yeah, and
- 12:28Speaker 3: she was like, yeah's pretty bad.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, like she had my phone, so people were
- 12:31Speaker 2: calling and texting, and I was just so out of it.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I was just laying in the back bunk of the
- 12:36Speaker 2: bed of the bus and I was just like trying
- 12:40Speaker 2: not to bleed on the sheets that I don't own. Yeah,
- 12:43Speaker 2: and she was tending to my wounds. Curry was so great.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I was so glad she was there because like there
- 12:49Speaker 2: was so much that had to be handled, uh, that
- 12:52Speaker 2: I just was not in the position to handle. Once
- 12:53Speaker 2: you just I mean I was down, You're done, Yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 2: I was down, And so she was wrapping me up
- 12:58Speaker 2: with these bandages and caring for me. She's been amazing.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Uh and so yeah, but well I've been convalescing at
- 13:04Speaker 2: home for the last like ten or eleven days, and
- 13:05Speaker 2: so now we're kind of like, this is my first
- 13:08Speaker 2: this is the first time my face has been in public,
- 13:10Speaker 2: and there's been a lot of you'll see if I show,
- 13:12Speaker 2: I'll show the photo. But it's there was a lot
- 13:14Speaker 2: of facial there was some scabs and some crust and
- 13:19Speaker 2: some junk.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Like I had no I would have no idea today
- 13:22Speaker 1: that could happen to you.
- 13:24Speaker 2: That's the goal, John. So yeah, I'm still really stiff.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Uh my hand is this hand is still a little
- 13:31Speaker 2: bit wonky. I had so many scars and scabs on
- 13:33Speaker 2: this hand, but I'm still it's not my playing hand.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Thing Goads. Well, I guess you some people call this
- 13:37Speaker 2: they're playing hand. I've considered this the playing hand because
- 13:40Speaker 2: you're making frits, you're making chords with this hand. So
- 13:42Speaker 2: if this was if this was on this hand, I
- 13:45Speaker 2: probably wouldn't be able to play the guitar right now. But
- 13:46Speaker 2: you have practiced. I've practiced a little bit. I think
- 13:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna be okay. But yeah, but yeah, it's been interesting.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I think we should have a word now a few
- 13:56Speaker 2: of our fine sponsors and hope it's some health insurance
- 13:59Speaker 2: playing or something.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Remember Johnny has a bunch of bills.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Now a word from Edna. Let's hear from a few
- 14:04Speaker 2: of our fine sponsors.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you're okay.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, And I just want to say thanks to to
- 14:18Speaker 2: everybody that like commented on social media. I never want
- 14:22Speaker 2: to make those kind of posts because it's like it's
- 14:24Speaker 2: so weird to because I'm always my posts are always
- 14:27Speaker 2: so light and whatever. And then you're like, hey, we
- 14:30Speaker 2: have to cancel shows and I'm really sorry, and people
- 14:34Speaker 2: are just like, oh wow, this is serious, and people
- 14:36Speaker 2: were really concerned and people were praying, and so I
- 14:38Speaker 2: just want to say thanks to everybody who reached out.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And I'm glad to be back doing what I love
- 14:44Speaker 2: and very grateful that I'm okay and we're on the end.
- 14:49Speaker 2: We're not one hundred percent yet. So Spokane Wednesday, May
- 14:54Speaker 2: sixth Thursday is Tacoma, and then I'm doing a fundraiser
- 15:00Speaker 2: in Portland, and then I'm doing a fundraiser in Lebanon, Tennessee.
- 15:04Speaker 2: And you guys, these jokes may have some duct tape
- 15:06Speaker 2: on them. So I'm coming in at seventy percent. Y'all

- 15:14Speaker 2: can ask how you're doing.
- 15:17Speaker 3: I'm doing. I'm doing well. I haven't I have a
- 15:19Speaker 3: it's not an injury, but I'm an old man.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Land Ah boy A little bit.
- 15:25Speaker 2: That's right. You're in you're in prep day.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm in prep day for my first colonoscopeede tomorrow,
- 15:29Speaker 3: first ever.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 3: So I didn't eat anything at all yesterday and I
- 15:35Speaker 3: haven't eat anything today, which I feel pretty good.
- 15:37Speaker 2: You're getting ready for your close up.
- 15:39Speaker 1: It's look, I'm like two coln oscaris away from my
- 15:41Speaker 1: goal weight.
- 15:41Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 15:42Speaker 2: That's that's a great way to think about it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: No, I mean it's uh but yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Do you have any you angry yet? Are you getting
- 15:48Speaker 2: a litld?
- 15:49Speaker 1: I was yesterday? I feel great today.
- 15:51Speaker 2: You didn't eat yesterday either? No, So we want to
- 15:54Speaker 2: get a head start.
- 15:55Speaker 1: You get a head start.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I think so. My wife is brilliant, you know, and
- 15:58Speaker 3: she's done this recently. She was like, so she did
- 16:01Speaker 3: clear liquids for two days because then by the time
- 16:04Speaker 3: you get today, we're recording.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Right now, yeah, fifty minutes from now.
- 16:08Speaker 2: So you think starving yourself for an extra day makes.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Your wife brilliant?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Yes, I think I have to go home.
- 16:14Speaker 2: She was like, John, why don't you take a third
- 16:16Speaker 2: day and lose a little bit tire? You know what
- 16:19Speaker 2: I've heard a lot of people are taking a full
- 16:21Speaker 2: week and doing some sit ups. If you could do
- 16:25Speaker 2: some crunches.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Maybe, I don't know, take a walk.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what she is. She's an evil genius,
- 16:30Speaker 2: is what.
- 16:31Speaker 1: She is, and go to a tanning bed.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Anything. But no, So at two o'clock today I had
- 16:36Speaker 3: to start drinking the stuff. Right, So my afternoon's about
- 16:39Speaker 3: to get real. I mean Coloska peas more like, yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 3: you know.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It's gonna be Yeah, this will be fun. It sucks,
- 16:48Speaker 2: but no, come on, man, Well you got to get
- 16:50Speaker 2: in there. You gotta get in there and see what's up.
- 16:52Speaker 2: You gotta take care of you gotta take care of
- 16:53Speaker 2: your health.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Well, I'm having an upper gi scope as well.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Gosh, this is this is the this is the old episode.
- 17:00Speaker 1: It is I'm gonna see ya. They're gonna see what's
- 17:02Speaker 1: going on.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Old and creaky.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's fine. Hey, it's fine, it's fine. Everything's
- 17:07Speaker 3: gonna be fine.
- 17:08Speaker 2: You talk about him stretching your esophagus in some nonsense.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Is it your gird or something.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I don't know, Like you got a little I guess, Yeah,
- 17:15Speaker 3: I got some stuff going on.
- 17:17Speaker 2: What if they stretch your sophagus and it changes your voice.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It's gonna be amazing, like all of a sudden, I said, But.
- 17:21Speaker 2: If it cool, No, it wouldn't. If they stretch, it's
- 17:22Speaker 2: gonna be higher.
- 17:23Speaker 3: It's like your nose, except now my esophagus is gonna
- 17:25Speaker 3: be perfectly straight.
- 17:27Speaker 1: It's it's gonna be.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Your voice gonna be gon be like the bad news
- 17:33Speaker 2: is man these harmony notes. John's hitting and worship is unreal.
- 17:41Speaker 1: He's a full anyway. Yeah, I'm not gonna come back
- 17:45Speaker 1: a soprano.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I think that's the wrong thing, Johnny. That's your vocal cords.
- 17:48Speaker 2: But well, but look it's all in there. It's all
- 17:50Speaker 2: I'm not a doctor, Johnny.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys know this.
- 17:52Speaker 2: All I know is when you have a COLONOSCA. You
- 17:54Speaker 2: need to take at least five days and not eat.
- 17:56Speaker 2: That's what I've been told.
- 17:58Speaker 3: You know what I was craving yesterday? It's, uh, the
- 18:01Speaker 3: Texas Cheese steak burrito from BUCkies.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Well, we don't even have the BUCkies near us, so that's.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Like a bad Yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Yeah, but I travel a lot.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh that's true. You're doing the volleyball trips.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Yeah, have you ever had that?
- 18:12Speaker 2: You had me eat one, but it has peppers and
- 18:14Speaker 2: like peppers.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Had you and Andrew eat this amazing thing?
- 18:18Speaker 1: You're both like.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Peppers make everything taste like a pepper. It's a very
- 18:23Speaker 2: invasive species of food.
- 18:26Speaker 3: I don't think you realize that the whole world eats
- 18:28Speaker 3: peppers on their food and you're a can like that,
- 18:30Speaker 3: you're better. Well, I'm in the world and I don't,
- 18:32Speaker 3: so yeah, by proxy it's but still, I mean, when
- 18:37Speaker 3: do you I understand.
- 18:37Speaker 2: That they put peppers in a lot of things, but
- 18:39Speaker 2: I wish they would make a Texas cheese steak burrito
- 18:41Speaker 2: without peppers from me, and I would try it, and
- 18:43Speaker 2: I'm sure I would like it. They had some kind
- 18:44Speaker 2: of sauce too, didn't it. Yeah, I don't like sauces.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Give me cheese, meat, and maybe some onions, some grilled
- 18:50Speaker 2: onions I can eat, not peppers.
- 18:51Speaker 3: You don't think an onion?
- 18:52Speaker 2: Doesn't that as invasive to me? Peppers just taints everything.
- 18:57Speaker 3: I think that the millions of BUCkies customers who buy
- 19:00Speaker 3: this burrito have proven you wrong.
- 19:02Speaker 2: You ever get a half and half pizza, be good
- 19:04Speaker 2: half peppers on my half. That's all I care about,
- 19:07Speaker 2: Just good peppers on my If you go, your peppers
- 19:08Speaker 2: are going to encroach. The flavors will meld.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I think you're I don't know, man, your palette. I
- 19:14Speaker 1: wouldn't call it sophisticated. No, I call it wimpy, Like
- 19:17Speaker 1: you have a wimpy palette.
- 19:18Speaker 2: You're right, and you're right. Yeah, you eat green peppers.
- 19:21Speaker 2: That makes you really really sophisticated at BUCkies. That truck stop.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Actually, big trucks are not allowed at BUCkies. So I'm
- 19:29Speaker 3: gonna need you to step back, sir. Car stop, car
- 19:32Speaker 3: stop is what it is.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I do love BUCkies. I stuff almost every time. But hey, anyway, Johnny,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I think about that time?
- 19:38Speaker 2: Is it?
- 19:39Speaker 3: It's my segment, A little one we called. They talked
- 19:41Speaker 3: about that.
- 19:44Speaker 2: See if my nose is better to sing. I'm still
- 19:47Speaker 2: hitting it, but you still got it, man, thank you.
- 19:55Speaker 1: It's like riding the scooter.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Wait that Michael Jackson said his first uh nose job
- 20:00Speaker 2: was to fix his deviated septum and to help him
- 20:03Speaker 2: sing better. That's what he said. Yeah, and then he
- 20:07Speaker 2: just I guess he couldn't stop. He kept a going,
- 20:12Speaker 2: uh yeah, that's me. Next next stop? Who knows soprano land?
- 20:19Speaker 2: Are you going to ride a scooter again? That's a
- 20:21Speaker 2: great question, because I have four of them in my
- 20:23Speaker 2: garage and I'm either gonna have to sell them and
- 20:26Speaker 2: be like, hey, by the way, these are cursed, or
- 20:29Speaker 2: get back on the horse I got. I'm gonna wait
- 20:31Speaker 2: till my nose fully heels, because that's the other thing
- 20:33Speaker 2: they tell you is like, don't don't take a shot
- 20:36Speaker 2: to your nose while it's fractured, because you will totally.
- 20:38Speaker 2: You will displace it because it's like still tenuous. Don't
- 20:41Speaker 2: get in a bar fight.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Four weeks they said, So, no bar fights for you.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Don't don't get mouth vy, and the Buckies'll be like
- 20:52Speaker 2: like mocking them. They don't like that I took a
- 20:56Speaker 2: steak burrito to the face.
- 20:58Speaker 1: That's what killed my uncle.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 2: But anyway, so that's the status of it.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeah, well get.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Back hey one suggestion, yeah helmet, Oh no, I'm with
- 21:06Speaker 2: you to get back on the horse because I feel
- 21:09Speaker 2: like I didn't you say that you're a counterphobic. Yes,
- 21:13Speaker 2: so like you can't just live your life in fear
- 21:15Speaker 2: of like a one time you had an accident on
- 21:16Speaker 2: a thing. You gotta get right back on the horse.
- 21:19Speaker 2: And the horse is an electric scooter. By the way.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Rob Harris, my buddy singer songwriter Rob Harris, for my
- 21:24Speaker 2: dear friends, he gave me a little plastic scooter. He
- 21:25Speaker 2: gave me a whole gift basket full of stuff, which
- 21:27Speaker 2: was so nice because nobody else gave me a hair
- 21:29Speaker 2: care package or a hair package. But within it it
- 21:33Speaker 2: said every superhero has an enemy, and now we know yours. Wow,
- 21:39Speaker 2: so this is this is his version of my supervillain.
- 21:41Speaker 2: So I thought we'd make him a little mess.
- 21:42Speaker 1: This was like Andrew's ladder.
- 21:43Speaker 2: It's a little scooter, old plastic scooter for those of
- 21:46Speaker 2: you listening. Wow, that's awesome anyway.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Quote of the week, John, it's a quive stables today,
- 21:50Speaker 3: of course, and I'm gonna tell you something.
- 21:52Speaker 1: This.
- 21:52Speaker 3: I just search it out because it's one of those
- 21:54Speaker 3: I found. I was like, this hat, please tell.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Me this is real. I'm not made up? And I did.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I found I see this Lewis quote that might be correct.
- 22:00Speaker 1: There's all all kinds of yes everywhere there.
- 22:03Speaker 2: You know.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I actually saw this one in a meme. I was like, oh, no, please,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I think this to be true. But I found it
- 22:08Speaker 3: and it was the reason it was hard to find
- 22:10Speaker 3: is it's a personal letter from C. S. Lewis to
- 22:12Speaker 3: Father Peter Bide, dated April twenty ninth, nineteen fifty nine,
- 22:17Speaker 3: so it was publishing his collection of letters.
- 22:19Speaker 1: So it is in this legit.
- 22:20Speaker 3: He says, we are not necessarily doubting that God will
- 22:24Speaker 3: do the best for us. We are wondering how painful
- 22:28Speaker 3: the best will turn out to be. And I think
- 22:32Speaker 3: he nailed. In fact, when I came through twelve Steps,
- 22:37Speaker 3: the big question I came out at the end was
- 22:39Speaker 3: I realize now what I'm most afraid of. I am
- 22:44Speaker 3: most afraid that God will not stop me from screwing
- 22:48Speaker 3: out my life. I'm not worried about God screwing up
- 22:52Speaker 3: my life. I'm worried about him him giving me too
- 22:55Speaker 3: much leeway. He's not intervening, he's not going to stop
- 22:59Speaker 3: me from doing it. And this is similar to that
- 23:01Speaker 3: that we're not necessarily doubting that God will do the best.
- 23:03Speaker 3: We're wondering how painful the best will turn out to be.
- 23:06Speaker 3: And that's been I mean, it's for where I am
- 23:10Speaker 3: in my life. It's one of those like I don't
- 23:14Speaker 3: know if I want your best all the time, because yeah,
- 23:18Speaker 3: the best is not I think we we equate the
- 23:21Speaker 3: best from God as comfortable or how we define good right.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Our mutual friend Rick used to always say, you know,
- 23:32Speaker 3: it's our definition of God's best right that's the problem,
- 23:35Speaker 3: or our definition of what good is?
- 23:38Speaker 2: God work things together for our good? What is our
- 23:40Speaker 2: definition of good versus God's definition?
- 23:41Speaker 3: For God's as a definition of good often leads to
- 23:45Speaker 3: things that we would never in a million years choose.
- 23:49Speaker 1: And I'm finding I don't know even this last weekend.
- 23:52Speaker 3: The volleyball world, I don't talk about a lot, but
- 23:55Speaker 3: in college recruiting and youth sports culture. I mean, I
- 24:00Speaker 3: think I could do a whole podcast or a series
- 24:02Speaker 3: of books on this because I've lived a world.
- 24:04Speaker 1: That's it I'm in a different I'm on a different planet. Often.
- 24:09Speaker 3: I sent Andrew a picture of coming down the escalator
- 24:12Speaker 3: in Atlanta this last weekend and I think there were about,
- 24:15Speaker 3: I don't know eight thousand people gathered down trying to
- 24:18Speaker 3: get into the convention center and this was one of
- 24:20Speaker 3: three halls, just I mean crowds of people.
- 24:24Speaker 1: And he was like, what is going on?
- 24:26Speaker 3: You know?
- 24:26Speaker 1: And he was like, she should take up chess, is
- 24:28Speaker 1: what he said.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:30Speaker 3: And in that world, though, the emotional stakes when it's
- 24:35Speaker 3: your kid involved are seemingly so much higher than they
- 24:39Speaker 3: should be. And my kid, you know, as ADHD and
- 24:43Speaker 3: other things, you know, and there's a whole other world
- 24:47Speaker 3: of what that really means is not usually just attention
- 24:50Speaker 3: or hyperactivity or things like that.
- 24:52Speaker 1: There's a lot going on.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Your kid's getting older and she's about to turn eighteen
- 24:55Speaker 3: and all the things. You know, there's just there's just
- 24:57Speaker 3: a lot of things that we've carried and walked through
- 25:00Speaker 3: with our amazing girl, and we're doing it in this
- 25:03Speaker 3: high pressure environment with your You're trying to just hope
- 25:06Speaker 3: she can make it to a goal that she has,
- 25:08Speaker 3: you know, and man, the question of whether or not
- 25:12Speaker 3: we trust God. It's it's it feels like a trick
- 25:16Speaker 3: question to me, said my whole life helping people learn
- 25:18Speaker 3: how to trust God. Right, And I find myself going
- 25:26Speaker 3: he just said it because it's not that I don't
- 25:27Speaker 3: trust you. Is that how how painful or what if
- 25:30Speaker 3: you go a different direction? Is that God is trustworthy,
- 25:32Speaker 3: but he's not predictable. And I think that that's the
- 25:35Speaker 3: heart of it. Can I trust God when I when
- 25:37Speaker 3: I don't know what He's going to do?
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah? We want, like even now more than ever, we
- 25:41Speaker 2: want a formula. Yeah, we want to plug it in
- 25:44Speaker 2: and and we want God to be our Like I
- 25:48Speaker 2: was reading our buddy Caleb Edwards blog about how God's
- 25:53Speaker 2: not a genie. You know, there's going to be sadness
- 25:56Speaker 2: and lost, there's going to be all these things, and
- 25:58Speaker 2: that's just part of it.
- 25:59Speaker 3: The disc That's the same thing I told said yesterday
- 26:01Speaker 3: we're talking about. I said, look, if God always gave
- 26:03Speaker 3: you everything you wanted, he's just a genie and or
- 26:06Speaker 3: he's Santa Claus, right, But we're supposed to be obedient
- 26:13Speaker 3: to him.
- 26:13Speaker 1: He's supposed to be king and Lord, and I'm good
- 26:17Speaker 1: with that. I want that.
- 26:19Speaker 3: But also, he doesn't tell you like I was telling.
- 26:24Speaker 3: We were actually listened to the Bible audio, an audio
- 26:27Speaker 3: Bible app and it was talking about Lazarus. And I said, now,
- 26:33Speaker 3: and she and I are having such great discussions right
- 26:34Speaker 3: now on this stuff, and we push pause. I said, look,
- 26:37Speaker 3: here's the crazy part, because she said, I understand he
- 26:40Speaker 3: said that he said Lazarus is not going to die.
- 26:42Speaker 1: I said, let's let's listen. What do you Where did
- 26:44Speaker 1: you hear that?
- 26:45Speaker 3: And what he said was he told his disciples Lazarus
- 26:48Speaker 3: is sick, but the sickness will not end in death.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And then she's like, I don't understand.
- 26:52Speaker 3: What if he died? And I said, okay, but let's
- 26:55Speaker 3: listen to what he really said. This is a great example,
- 26:57Speaker 3: at least in our English translation of the miss of God. Right,
- 27:01Speaker 3: what did Jesus really say? He said it won't end
- 27:03Speaker 3: in death. Did the story end in death? She was like, no,
- 27:07Speaker 3: it's right, but it had death still of course. So
- 27:10Speaker 3: what they heard was he's not gonna die. That's what
- 27:12Speaker 3: you heard. And that's I said, that's how God. This
- 27:15Speaker 3: is the one I'm learning, kid, that the mystery of
- 27:17Speaker 3: God is he knew the whole time, and he said
- 27:22Speaker 3: these things, but he did not explain to them this
- 27:25Speaker 3: is where it kills us. We want to understand, and
- 27:28Speaker 3: he did he is not concerned always with our understanding.
- 27:31Speaker 1: And I don't know what to do with that. Like
- 27:33Speaker 1: I could, I get it. I'm saying it.
- 27:35Speaker 3: It makes sense, but just like I could say I'm overweight,
- 27:37Speaker 3: doesn't make me lose any weight or change the problem
- 27:39Speaker 3: at all. Or I could say I have cancer, doesn't
- 27:41Speaker 3: take the cancer away if I had it, Like there's
- 27:44Speaker 3: another process. So I know he doesn't give us understanding
- 27:47Speaker 3: of everything, but man, does it hurt.
- 27:49Speaker 1: To not have it?
- 27:50Speaker 3: And you know, across the whole thing, there's all these mysteries.
- 27:54Speaker 3: It says Jesus was angry when he got to the
- 27:56Speaker 3: tomb multiple times. It says in that passage he was angry.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Doesn't tell us what he's angry about. He asks Mary,
- 28:04Speaker 3: do you believe he's gonna rise? And she's like, I
- 28:05Speaker 3: do it the last day and he and then she
- 28:08Speaker 3: was doing NLT and he.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Says in LT it says, do you believe?
- 28:13Speaker 3: Do you believe he will live again?
- 28:15Speaker 1: She goes yes. At the last day.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Well, the other versions say she goes, yes, at the
- 28:21Speaker 3: last Day, at the resurrection, and then to me, I said, honey,
- 28:23Speaker 3: I think that the other versions are a little more
- 28:26Speaker 3: pointed to what he really said is a mic drop moment. Yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 3: I'll believe he'll rise again at the resurrection. He goes,
- 28:32Speaker 3: I am the resurrection like it's a real Like those
- 28:35Speaker 3: two words need to be repeated, you know. But he's
- 28:39Speaker 3: all he's dropping MIC's and saying all this stuff, but
- 28:41Speaker 3: it's not for the purpose of everybody understanding. Yeah, and
- 28:44Speaker 3: I think that once we get that, like, hey, I
- 28:47Speaker 3: don't get it. I don't think he's getting that. But
- 28:48Speaker 3: that is the pathway of following Christ and trusting. Is
- 28:52Speaker 3: I need to as it says in saw On one,
- 28:55Speaker 3: I need to sorry Proverbs three, I need to lean
- 28:57Speaker 3: not in my understanding. And that's the whole hard artist things.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Only know how to I'm a six right, I don't
- 29:02Speaker 3: know how to not. And so that's the training of Okay, God,
- 29:06Speaker 3: this may be painful. Can I still trust you and.
- 29:09Speaker 1: That you give me so many good things? Can I
- 29:10Speaker 1: see them?
- 29:11Speaker 3: Can I see that your ways are better even if
- 29:13Speaker 3: they hurt and if I didn't understand them? So yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 3: I mean I don't know if God knocked you off
- 29:17Speaker 3: your scooter, Johnny, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:19Speaker 1: But he knew that was gonna happen, and he allowed
- 29:21Speaker 1: that to happen.
- 29:22Speaker 3: And then he also preserved your life because you really
- 29:24Speaker 3: could have died and all the things, and if you
- 29:26Speaker 3: would have died, God would still be good. Right that
- 29:29Speaker 3: you get into all these things and someone else fell
- 29:31Speaker 3: off of something and died. You know, we just had
- 29:33Speaker 3: a funeral here for it. It's awful, you know, And
- 29:36Speaker 3: you go, I'm not gonna get understanding right and all
- 29:39Speaker 3: this can I still see the good trust in God
- 29:43Speaker 3: and know that the story he's writing will be redeemed
- 29:45Speaker 3: fully in a way that nothing, none of this will
- 29:48Speaker 3: be wasted in the end. So anyway, Yeah, Clive Stables.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Good stuff. C. S. Lewis, He's gonna make it.
- 29:54Speaker 3: That guy keep writing, bro, Yeah, he's going to be good.
- 29:56Speaker 2: I have a good feeling about that guy. John. Let's
- 29:58Speaker 2: do my segments. Let's start with old jokes. Call it
- 30:00Speaker 2: joke about that. Oh great, John. Now I've lost the
- 30:08Speaker 2: packaging for my anti stress medication. I don't know how
- 30:12Speaker 2: much more of this I can take. Figured I like
- 30:17Speaker 2: that the guy crashes his car. When the police show up,
- 30:20Speaker 2: he claims the woman he hit was at fault. She
- 30:22Speaker 2: was on her phone, he yells, and to make matters worse,
- 30:24Speaker 2: she was drinking glass of wine at the time. Can
- 30:26Speaker 2: you believe it? And the cop says, sir, she can
- 30:27Speaker 2: do whatever she wants in her own living room. John,
- 30:32Speaker 2: a sad lady fervently praying before the saint's statue in
- 30:36Speaker 2: the church. A priest sees it. Master, what happened? Oh,
- 30:38Speaker 2: please pray for my husband, Holy Father. She says, he
- 30:41Speaker 2: got stung by a bee in the forehead. He's in
- 30:43Speaker 2: the hospital now. His face is all swollen and bruised.
- 30:46Speaker 2: He almost died. Luckily I was close enough to hit
- 30:48Speaker 2: the bee with a shovel. John, let's do let's do
- 30:54Speaker 2: this week in history. We call it talk about then
- 31:00Speaker 2: with a shoveled hunt. See that's where the bruises go.
- 31:02Speaker 2: That's where it really came from. Yeah, John, this week
- 31:07Speaker 2: is Cinco de Mayo. Do you know what Cinco de
- 31:08Speaker 2: Mayo is all about? Could you give me some like
- 31:12Speaker 2: a region.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Just took a Mexican history class, and I'm not sure
- 31:16Speaker 3: that I.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Remember it commemorates May fifth, eighteen sixty two, when a
- 31:21Speaker 2: fledgling Mexican army defeated a much larger and better equipped
- 31:25Speaker 2: French forces. The French, looking to set up a French
- 31:29Speaker 2: empire in Mexico, did not know this had invaded with
- 31:31Speaker 2: eight thousand troops. On May fifth, eighteen sixty two, the
- 31:34Speaker 2: much smaller Mexican army of four thousand troops that's half
- 31:38Speaker 2: defeated the French near Pueblo, providing a large morale boost
- 31:41Speaker 2: for the Mexican population. However, a year later, the French,
- 31:45Speaker 2: with now thirty thousand troops, were able to defeat the
- 31:47Speaker 2: Mexican army and installed Emperor Maximilian One as ruler of Mexico.
- 31:53Speaker 2: This victory, too, was short lived, though after the American
- 31:56Speaker 2: Civil War end did the US was able to provide
- 31:58Speaker 2: support to Mexico and help ex spell the French. In
- 32:01Speaker 2: the US. Sinkle to Mayo has become a time to
- 32:03Speaker 2: celebrate Mexican American culture.
- 32:06Speaker 3: There you go.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So I did not know all that. Yes, today, as
- 32:10Speaker 2: we record.
- 32:11Speaker 3: I'm cool and I was to be prepping on Sinkle
- 32:12Speaker 3: to Mayo. I just now put that together. Yeah, man,
- 32:14Speaker 3: No wonder they had that opening, No other idiots. Only
- 32:17Speaker 3: clear margarita is today for you. My friend could be
- 32:20Speaker 3: wearing a sombrero tonight at a restaurant.
- 32:22Speaker 2: This one will hurt, especially as you prep and can't
- 32:25Speaker 2: eat today. Nineteen sixty eight marks the introduction of the
- 32:30Speaker 2: Big Mac hamburger at McDonald's. John, Are you a Big
- 32:33Speaker 2: Mac guy? I'm not, okay, but I did know that.
- 32:36Speaker 2: It's it followed the Whopper it made. It's because of
- 32:41Speaker 2: the food built America. I'll watch documentaries. Yeah, I know
- 32:47Speaker 2: about stuff.
- 32:48Speaker 1: It's a dead on impression of me.
- 32:50Speaker 2: It made its nationwide debut John with its two all
- 32:52Speaker 2: beef patty special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a
- 32:55Speaker 2: sesame seed bun. It was created by Pittsburgh McDonald's franchise
- 33:00Speaker 2: Z the previous year, so they had freedom to kind
- 33:02Speaker 2: of create their own little Yeah.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Back then they would do that. That's how the Fleo
- 33:06Speaker 3: Fish came as well. Would Yeah, they would make something
- 33:08Speaker 3: regionally and then the big wigs would come and decide
- 33:10Speaker 3: if it should go national.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I like it. Yeah, that's me. More of that, don't
- 33:14Speaker 2: you think? Yeah, more freedom like that.
- 33:15Speaker 3: My issue with the Big Mac extra bread it's the
- 33:18Speaker 3: big piece of bread in the middle.
- 33:19Speaker 2: So people love that that extra because it soaks up
- 33:21Speaker 2: the well it does cheap it formed well. I will
- 33:25Speaker 2: say that it is a lot of bread. But and
- 33:27Speaker 2: I like bread, I don't like that. What's funny is
- 33:30Speaker 2: I like thousand island on a salad. I do not
- 33:33Speaker 2: like a thousand island on a hamburger. You know, I
- 33:36Speaker 2: will say this, what the special sauce is, basically right.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I haven't eaten it. Yeah, I agree, I haven't eaten
- 33:40Speaker 3: a big mac in years, but I will say this,
- 33:43Speaker 3: I think I've enjoyed them when.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I have, even I've never been like, you know what
- 33:46Speaker 1: that was grown.
- 33:46Speaker 2: There's a guy who's famous for eating a big mac
- 33:50Speaker 2: every day for his whole life, basically his whole adult life.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Because I think he made the list one day. He's
- 33:56Speaker 2: like famous. He's you know that. He calls himself big
- 33:58Speaker 2: Mac Jack or something. I don't know what he is,
- 34:00Speaker 2: but he eats a big mac and he's like a
- 34:02Speaker 2: healthy guy. He's not like you would think this guy
- 34:03Speaker 2: is going to be four hundred pounds. He's just like
- 34:05Speaker 2: a skinny yacht. But he eats a big mac every days.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I think he's still around. I haven't. I don't want
- 34:11Speaker 2: to look because I'm afraid to look.
- 34:12Speaker 3: I think whenever we're both recovered, we should go have
- 34:16Speaker 3: a big mac.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Let's go a big mac together and see and we'll
- 34:18Speaker 2: see if what's the big? What's the big?
- 34:19Speaker 3: You know there's a new bigger burger that they've made,
- 34:22Speaker 3: okay at McDonald a quarter pounder, no cheese. They've made
- 34:25Speaker 3: a new burger that's supposed to be bigger than the
- 34:26Speaker 3: big Mac. Oh boy, I can't remember what it's called.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Uh, did you know that it originally You know this
- 34:31Speaker 2: because you watched The Food Building America. Yeah, it originally
- 34:34Speaker 2: met by the name do you know the original names? No,
- 34:36Speaker 2: the Aristocrat, which that's destined to fail. Yeah, I mean
- 34:40Speaker 2: nobody wants like you're at McDonald's first of all. Yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 2: I think they're trying to say, like this is an
- 34:44Speaker 2: upper crusty burger, like that's gonna make you feel like
- 34:46Speaker 2: fancy to eat it, But nobody wants that right here.
- 34:49Speaker 2: It makes you feel like you're a you're a blue
- 34:51Speaker 2: blood because you're the other one was and this is
- 34:53Speaker 2: I'm surprised this didn't take off, the blue ribbon burger
- 34:55Speaker 2: Blue rim burger. I could see happening. It's not very
- 34:58Speaker 2: blue ribbon burger.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Yeah. And they loved the blue ribbons back then, like
- 35:02Speaker 3: the blue ribbon papst Yeah, like that was a big
- 35:05Speaker 3: thing right there. You want a blue ribbon at the
- 35:07Speaker 3: roots Fair or the fair?
- 35:08Speaker 2: What? Those both did poorly in the marketplace under those names,
- 35:12Speaker 2: and so they settled on the name Big Mac.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 35:16Speaker 2: John Stetson was born this week, eighteen thirty. Do you
- 35:20Speaker 2: know what he's famous for?
- 35:21Speaker 3: Tats?
- 35:21Speaker 2: He was an American hat maker. He founded his hat
- 35:24Speaker 2: company in eighteen sixty five. Stetson learned the hat making
- 35:27Speaker 2: trade from his father in Philadelphia. After he was diagnosed
- 35:30Speaker 2: with tuberculosis and given only a short time to live,
- 35:32Speaker 2: he moved to the American West to use his remaining
- 35:34Speaker 2: days exploring the wild frontier. This is kind of a yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 2: you know, he's kind of out there trying to be like,
- 35:39Speaker 2: you know what, I'm gonna make the most of it.
- 35:41Speaker 2: He was dismayed by the flea infested coonskin caps worn
- 35:44Speaker 2: by many of the gold seekers, So in eighteen sixty
- 35:47Speaker 2: five he created his quote Boss of the Plans hat.
- 35:51Speaker 2: It was made of durable, waterproof felt and the wide
- 35:54Speaker 2: brim provided protection from the hot sun. The hat was
- 35:57Speaker 2: an instant success and was worn by such notables Buffalo
- 36:00Speaker 2: Bill Calamity, Jane Will Rogers, Annie Oakley, Tom Mix, and
- 36:05Speaker 2: the Lone Ranger, and Stetson's line of hats became known
- 36:09Speaker 2: as the de facto cowboy hat.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Wait did he recover?
- 36:12Speaker 2: Though it does not say.
- 36:14Speaker 1: That seems important?
- 36:16Speaker 2: I mean he had tuberculosis, so and it was the
- 36:18Speaker 2: eighteen hundred.
- 36:19Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm gonna say, but maybe being out.
- 36:21Speaker 2: We mean out west? He Yeah, all that dust in
- 36:23Speaker 2: your lungs, that's gonna help.
- 36:26Speaker 1: It worked for Doc Holliday. Oh wait, yeah, uh.
- 36:29Speaker 2: You let me. I put this on here because I wondered,
- 36:31Speaker 2: have you ever you're from Nashville, have you ever found
- 36:34Speaker 2: yourself in a cowboy hat trying to pull it off?
- 36:36Speaker 2: Like be like that guy?
- 36:38Speaker 3: I think in high school there, you know, everyone has
- 36:40Speaker 3: a little country music phase. Yeah, I might.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Did you have the big belt buckle? No?
- 36:44Speaker 1: I had lots of friends who did.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:46Speaker 1: I might have worn some boots a few times.
- 36:49Speaker 3: On the jeans.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Boots hurt if you If you're not, they're not comfortable. Though.
- 36:52Speaker 2: You got to get you got to break those in.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Now it was a little kid. Yeah, i'd play cowboys
- 36:56Speaker 1: and Indians and stuff, but.
- 36:58Speaker 2: And wear a cowboy hat. Yeah, did you have a
- 37:00Speaker 2: little little cheesy one. Oh yeah, but it wasn't a
- 37:04Speaker 2: stats and it wasn't a true stetson. There's probably these hats. Man,
- 37:07Speaker 2: when these people get on these planes to head to
- 37:09Speaker 2: Nashville or head from Nashville. When we're leaving and they
- 37:11Speaker 2: get all on trips, they have them stacked on their
- 37:14Speaker 2: head two three deep. So they look ridiculous because there's
- 37:17Speaker 2: nowhere to put these hats to keep them from getting crumpled.
- 37:19Speaker 2: So they're wearing like a hat stacked a suit Doctor
- 37:23Speaker 2: Seuss character.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you see it a lot. Yeah, uh, there's more.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Listen, anyone wearing, in general a cowboy hat in Nashville
- 37:32Speaker 3: is not from here, right.
- 37:34Speaker 1: In general?
- 37:34Speaker 3: In general, there's a couple. I'm sure there's people. But yeah,
- 37:38Speaker 3: unless you like run, you're wearing it. Hey, power to you,
- 37:42Speaker 3: you need it. But I watched Taylor Sheridan shows. I
- 37:45Speaker 3: get it's rough.
- 37:45Speaker 2: We all see it. John. Finally, this week nineteen fifty four,
- 37:51Speaker 2: British runner Roger Banister became the first person to.
- 37:55Speaker 3: What run a four minute mile.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Or a minute mile, completing the run and in three
- 38:00Speaker 2: minutes fifty nine point four seconds, according to his book
- 38:03Speaker 2: The four Minute Mile.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Which that's appropriatelyvan.
- 38:06Speaker 2: His training consisted primarily of thirty minute runs with hard
- 38:12Speaker 2: intervals three to four times a week, so he would
- 38:15Speaker 2: increase the speed in the middle. I guess when you
- 38:17Speaker 2: do those high intensity intervals. And he worked and saying,
- 38:20Speaker 2: what's funny is the people who trained with him, once
- 38:22Speaker 2: they saw him do it, they did it like shortly thereafter.
- 38:24Speaker 2: So it's almost like there is something to that. Do
- 38:26Speaker 2: you think that's what's going on or do you think
- 38:28Speaker 2: it's all drugs with all these records being broken since.
- 38:30Speaker 3: No, I think I think you do.
- 38:31Speaker 2: You think it's like human achievement just needs to go
- 38:33Speaker 2: once you see it's possible.
- 38:35Speaker 3: So said, he had a private lesson last night. This
- 38:37Speaker 3: is a great example, and she actually ran a four
- 38:39Speaker 3: minute mile. I couldn't belave it. In volleyball, they so
- 38:44Speaker 3: we hadn't measured her vertical in a while. Yeah, and
- 38:47Speaker 3: this guy was working with her and she measured three
- 38:50Speaker 3: inches higher than the last measure.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Is huge, huge, four that's huge.
- 38:53Speaker 3: And but he went over and looked, because you know,
- 38:56Speaker 3: he's shooting video and you can measure up and down
- 38:58Speaker 3: the net. She was actually in drills and he went
- 39:02Speaker 3: and measured the net she'd been hitting really well, and
- 39:04Speaker 3: I was like, oh my gosh, this is at the
- 39:06Speaker 3: men's level that had it up in the gym. Wow,
- 39:09Speaker 3: it was three inches higher than it was supposed to be.
- 39:11Speaker 3: So he's like, okay, and he told this whole story.
- 39:12Speaker 3: He's like, I want to lower this now, but I
- 39:14Speaker 3: need you to keep jumping like it was already high.
- 39:16Speaker 3: He's like, that's hard for people. When you lower it
- 39:18Speaker 3: back down. Now you will lower What are your expectations,
- 39:21Speaker 3: expectations as supposed to wear it?
- 39:22Speaker 1: What's high?
- 39:23Speaker 2: Yes, there's a sermon, then that's gonna be.
- 39:26Speaker 3: I got it all on film.
- 39:28Speaker 2: I'm giving you can find the scriptures to prop up
- 39:30Speaker 2: whatever you want to say that story, and that's how
- 39:32Speaker 2: you do it.
- 39:32Speaker 3: Proof texts the mess out of that.
- 39:35Speaker 2: That's something else. That's good stuff, Go Sadie.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good.
- 39:38Speaker 2: She didgree she's jumping out of the building over here,
- 39:40Speaker 2: so she's leaping tall buildings in a single bound. Well,
- 39:46Speaker 2: I'm uh, I'm about two weeks away from getting back
- 39:49Speaker 2: on scooter. John, You're gonna do that little film that
- 39:51Speaker 2: I'll and then people be like, what are you doing,
- 39:53Speaker 2: you idiot?
- 39:53Speaker 1: But the next leg of the tour is called the
- 39:55Speaker 1: Redemption Tour.
- 39:56Speaker 2: I think it is. I think it's idiot. Right back
- 39:58Speaker 2: on the right, back on the horse.
- 40:00Speaker 1: He joke's gonna be written from this probably.
- 40:02Speaker 2: I mean, I've got a i got a song idea
- 40:04Speaker 2: or two, and I've got a few little yeah, I
- 40:06Speaker 2: got a little yeah. We'll see. I mean, it's just
- 40:09Speaker 2: the things like this is what my buddy Mark Lowry,
- 40:12Speaker 2: who has become a new friend. He one of his
- 40:15Speaker 2: most famous bits is from a accident that he had
- 40:17Speaker 2: on a It was a motor scooter, like a real
- 40:21Speaker 2: Maxi scoot, like one hundred mile an hour guy, and
- 40:23Speaker 2: he was in an intersection and laid it down. I
- 40:26Speaker 2: can't remember what happens to may cut him off or
- 40:28Speaker 2: he didn't see what was happening, and he broke his
- 40:30Speaker 2: leg so severely, and then they took him away in
- 40:34Speaker 2: an ambulance. And he has a twenty minute bit about it. Oh,
- 40:37Speaker 2: he tells, and it is so funny, but he goes,
- 40:40Speaker 2: it's the worst day of your life. But you know,
- 40:42Speaker 2: as it's happening, this is going to be twenty minutes. Yeah,
- 40:45Speaker 2: you know, so I said, well your lips to god there.
- 40:47Speaker 2: I hope that happens. Yeah, but his was way worse.
- 40:50Speaker 2: He has like cadaver ligaments, wow, in his leg to
- 40:56Speaker 2: save the leg they had to put like cadaver. So
- 40:58Speaker 2: he always talks about like during the rap, should the
- 41:00Speaker 2: dead and cross rise first? He has his legs going up,
- 41:04Speaker 2: the leg going up ahead of him.
- 41:05Speaker 3: That's funny.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty good.
- 41:07Speaker 3: That's good.
