- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. Now, if you've ever vomited, not
- 0:43just a bit, but a lot, you know how awful it is.
- 0:48But just imagine how bad it would be if you were vomiting
- 0:51for hours on end and there was no one there to help you and you
- 0:56felt alone and kind of in a way, abandoned.
- 1:02Well, this hypnosis session was created for a child that had had
- 1:08that experience while on a school trip and had vomited for
- 1:12more than four hours non-stop. Everyone else was asleep.
- 1:16Teachers didn't care and because of that their brain adapted a
- 1:21bit of a coping strategy where they would get very anxious
- 1:24whenever they felt nauseous or thought that they might vomit.
- 1:28And this hypnosis session is designed to calm down their
- 1:30nervous system and have certain coping strategies that mean that
- 1:35they can relax, but also to change how they thought about
- 1:39that moment where their body linked it to a feeling of
- 1:44feeling isolated or abandoned or in need of help and not getting
- 1:48it. There's a bit going on here, but
- 1:50at its core, it's designed to help vomiting, anxiety and the
- 1:56hyper vigilance and coping strategies that came from that.
- 2:00So if you get anxious about the idea of vomiting, or maybe you
- 2:05have a child and your child doesn't like vomiting and starts
- 2:10to feel a bit anxious if they even feel nauseous, this session
- 2:14may be very, very useful. Just be aware though, it was
- 2:17created for a specific individual.
- 2:20Some of the references to certain school trips or a screen
- 2:26that plays video games was because that was relevant to the
- 2:29client I was working with may not be relevant to you and your
- 2:33situation. So if you do like the idea of
- 2:35having a bespoke session, there will be a link in the
- 2:39description but also on my website adamcox.co.uk and there
- 2:43you can schedule a free consultation call to explore
- 2:46working with me. For now though, find a quiet,
- 2:50comfortable place, the kind of place where you're not going to
- 2:52be distracted or disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 3:14Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in.
- 3:22Then long, slow, deep, relaxing breath, and as you exhale, allow
- 3:33your eyelids to close and with your eyes closed, feel a sense
- 3:40of release, releasing tension, stress and worry in your outward
- 3:49breath. Breathe in a feeling of calm
- 3:56relaxation and on that long outward breath, give permission
- 4:08to your body to let go of any thoughts, worries or feelings
- 4:17that have been bothering you either recently or in the past.
- 4:30Breathing in and feeling of calmness.
- 4:36And as you exhale, just imagine as you're breathing out, it's
- 4:41like gently blowing on hot food or blowing out a candle that's
- 4:47far away. Slow, easy, controlled.
- 4:58And each time you breathe out your chest, your stomach relaxes
- 5:05even more. Not forced, just relaxing and
- 5:12loosening. And maybe your shoulders drop
- 5:20and your jaw relaxes. Maybe you notice your hands
- 5:29becoming still or twitching slightly, and you may even
- 5:35notice that your body already knows how to calm down and
- 5:48position your body in such a way where you can really feel safe,
- 5:53calm and relaxed. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 6:00relaxed you feel, and the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you
- 6:07breathe. And as your body relaxes, your
- 6:12imagination awakens. And I wonder if you can imagine
- 6:23a place where you feel completely safe.
- 6:31Maybe it's your room, your home, or a place you've been to
- 6:37because this is your imagination.
- 6:39It could even be a made-up place that doesn't exist, but you
- 6:45still feel safe. And in this place, I want you to
- 6:53imagine people that you love and love you that are there to help
- 7:03people who notice, people who come if you need them.
- 7:10Maybe you can imagine your mother, your father on hand if
- 7:15you need them. And in this place, within your
- 7:20imagination, you are never alone when you don't feel well.
- 7:30I don't need to notice what this place feels like.
- 7:35A safe place with help when needed.
- 7:40A place where feeling safe doesn't mean that nothing
- 7:44uncomfortable ever happens. Here, in this place, safe means
- 7:52that if something does happen, you are supported and just allow
- 8:01that thought to hold, to sink in.
- 8:09And now imagine the screen, maybe the kind of screen that
- 8:15you would watch a movie on or play a video game.
- 8:21And on that screen is playing a movie about a boy who had a
- 8:30really difficult evening while on that residential school trip.
- 8:38And you're not inside the memory.
- 8:41You're watching it like you're in a cinema, watching it on on a
- 8:47big screen. And in that movie, the boy
- 8:54didn't feel well. I want you to observe that boy
- 8:58vomiting not just once or twice, but for a long time.
- 9:04Maybe when others were sleeping, but they were vomiting for
- 9:08hours. And the hardest part wasn't the
- 9:14feeling in the stomach, it was feeling that they had to deal
- 9:18with it all by themself. And just notice that and then
- 9:26pause that movie, freeze it, rewind it to before the vomiting
- 9:34even happened. And then imagine something
- 9:38different happening. I want you to imagine on that
- 9:43same residential, your parents were there.
- 9:49And when you start to feel nauseous or vomit, help is
- 9:53immediately on hand. Calm, kind, steady.
- 10:03These helpers sit beside that boy and they bring water.
- 10:14They ask if they're OK. They stay and they say I'm here.
- 10:25Watch that new movie and notice how you feel different and you
- 10:31can make that boy you if you want.
- 10:34Watch it again and then rewind. And then play the movie again.
- 10:47And as you play it again, suddenly that boy doesn't look
- 10:53so anxious, stressed or scared or worried.
- 10:59They still don't like the vomit, but they don't feel that it's
- 11:06unmanageable. Once you've seen it again,
- 11:13rewind it again. But then imagine going into the
- 11:16screen and feeling what you would feel like if, while on
- 11:23that residential school trip, people that cared were with you
- 11:32when you started to vomit. They had water medicine.
- 11:38They wanted to make sure you were OK and notice what it feels
- 11:45like when you didn't feel that you were alone and just allow
- 11:54that new memory to connect somewhere in your body, your
- 11:59chest, your gut, your head, how it feels different.
- 12:09Imagine leaving that memory and still being in that safe place,
- 12:14perhaps near that big screen, and then bring your attention to
- 12:20your stomach, your gut, and just to check it and just to notice.
- 12:26And I want you to imagine inside your body there's a a dial, A
- 12:36control switch, the kind of thing that you could change the
- 12:41volume of an old radio. And when you breathe out slowly,
- 12:49that dial turns down from an 8 to A7 to A6 to A5 to a four.
- 12:59And you're not forcing it to 0 just turning it down so you feel
- 13:04comfortable because your body listens to your breathing, and
- 13:13those long outward breaths can help calm your body so it
- 13:19doesn't feel like it's in danger or that something bad may
- 13:23happen. So every long slow exhale tells
- 13:31your stomach, your body to calm down.
- 13:37And let's try it now. A big slow breath in, but an
- 13:44even longer breath out. And just imagine dialing down
- 13:51just one number. And maybe that number represents
- 13:58nausea or worry or discomfort. But each time you have a long
- 14:06breath out, it reduces by one number, just dials it down.
- 14:12And I want you to imagine what it would feel like, that you are
- 14:19learning control with that long outward breath.
- 14:28And there's something important, a new way of thinking.
- 14:36Vomiting is unpleasant. Nobody likes to feel sick.
- 14:42But it is temporary and it's not dangerous, and it doesn't mean
- 14:49that you're on your own. And there will be sometimes that
- 14:54your body needs to do it and it does it and then it stops.
- 15:07And sometimes, sometimes there's big storms that happen but don't
- 15:14last very long, but they always pass.
- 15:22And I want you to say quietly, just in your mind, even if I
- 15:28feel sick, I can handle it. Even if I feel nauseous, I can
- 15:37manage. And even if I do vomit, I can
- 15:46cope. And it's not because it's nice.
- 15:52It's because you are stronger than the nausea, stronger than
- 15:56the vomit. And each time you feel that you
- 16:01can manage it well, it makes you stronger for the next time.
- 16:10And I want you to think of a memory before that school trip.
- 16:17Maybe you can see yourself on that screen again, with your
- 16:22friends or with your family, going about places.
- 16:29And I want you to think of a time when even if you ate a lot,
- 16:34even if you were eating spicy food, you didn't feel worried.
- 16:38You didn't feel scared. And just step into that version
- 16:43of you. Like putting on clothes, but
- 16:49you're just back inside that version of you.
- 16:52Like you're a character in a computer game, experiencing the
- 16:58world through their eyes. You to breathe how that version
- 17:03of you breathed. Think what they thought.
- 17:08Think of a time when you felt nauseous all the way back then,
- 17:14and think that way again. You don't like it, but you know
- 17:20that you can manage. And that version of you is still
- 17:26here. Nothing was taken away, but
- 17:32after that residential, your brain just went into protection
- 17:37mode. And that may have been useful
- 17:40for a few days. But you don't have to stay
- 17:43there. And even if there are loud
- 17:48noises or scary news, your brain knows how to tell the difference
- 17:54between real danger and things that just seem a bit scary.
- 18:05But not every loud sound means something's wrong, and not every
- 18:10time you feel nausea means you're going to be sick.
- 18:19These feelings that you have, these sensations, don't mean
- 18:23you're alone. If you need to be sick, your
- 18:29body will be sick. But that doesn't have to mean
- 18:34you're on your own or that you can't handle it.
- 18:38So take another slow breath out and dial down one more number,
- 18:45and maybe it's already at four or three or two.
- 18:50Every outward breath that's intentional takes it one number
- 18:54lower. The nausea decreases, any
- 18:58anxiety or worry decreases, and I want you to imagine a future
- 19:05moment that hasn't happened yet. A time when you feel a bit
- 19:12nauseous, queasy in your gut, the sensation in your stomach.
- 19:21Not big, something mild. And then imagine what you feel,
- 19:28that feeling. You breathe out slowly and
- 19:33imagine dialing down that sensation, reducing it.
- 19:39And you've done that before. You've played a video game where
- 19:44the volume was so high and you know how to turn down the
- 19:47volume. So just imagine you can turn
- 19:50down that sensation. You remember that you're not
- 19:55alone. That feeling gets less and less
- 20:02so that your body doesn't panic or escalate.
- 20:06And just imagine that future moment where you feel that you
- 20:10can handle it just like you did in the past before that
- 20:14residential You are not fragile, your body is strong.
- 20:25There were people around you that care, and you were learning
- 20:29to be the boss, the leader. And every time you breathe out
- 20:39long and slow, you're training your nervous system to relax and
- 20:45calm down. And every time you calm down,
- 20:51even for 10 seconds, your body can cope better than it did
- 20:55before. And you don't have to feel
- 20:59perfect. You can just remember that you
- 21:06are supported, you are safe, you can handle discomfort.
- 21:13That's it. It's time to leave this place in
- 21:16your imagination. So just imagine leaving any
- 21:20screens or memories or ideas of the future and returning all the
- 21:26way to your present. Take a deep breath in through
- 21:31your nose and out through your nose.
- 21:36Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes.
- 21:40Connect with your body right now as I count from 1:00 to 10:00
- 21:47and you will awaken feeling calmer and more confident about
- 21:54the future. Starting to count 123.
- 21:59Waking up 456. More alert 7-8.
- 22:05Open your eyes. Open your eyes, 910.
- 22:09Wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
