- 0:01Oh God. Do we need to like pre -quote with each
- 0:23other real quick? No. always like when we ended
- 0:26up with the same quotes so okay perfect there
- 0:28aren't a lot of nicholas cage quotes and i'm
- 0:31pretty sure i got mine wrong i didn't pick a
- 0:33nick yeah no neither did i so oh okay i did pick
- 0:36a nicholas cage quote oh good then you're you're
- 0:38in really good shape how many n words were in
- 0:40it yeah did he say yeah yeah yeah that no my
- 0:46quote is just that just that word there's a whole
- 0:49lot of fucking epithets in this uh i'm gonna
- 0:52have to quack myself on that yeah you've already
- 0:56recorded it my first quacking of myself oh it
- 1:00took season until season three i feel pretty
- 1:02good about that you know coward yeah well i probably
- 1:05said worse shit and then just cut myself out
- 1:07so don't worry yeah and then some guy stole that
- 1:10laptop and now has all of that raw audio yeah
- 1:13oh that audio is so raw yeah if there's any like
- 1:16weird shit that anyone hears from me on the internet
- 1:20That's definitely from some other guy. It's a
- 1:22deep fake for sure. Yeah. Somebody took all the
- 1:24evidence from our podcast and stitched together
- 1:27words. It's the best way to do it. So how do
- 1:30you guys feel about tap dancing? I'm pro. I was
- 1:34in a show one time in high school. It was anything
- 1:37goes. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I was playing the I can't
- 1:42remember the guy's name, the cuck, basically,
- 1:44which was good. But like I had to learn a little
- 1:47bit of tap dancing for that. And I don't know
- 1:51if you know, but I'm really hard to like force
- 1:54to learn things or do anything. Hadn't noticed.
- 1:59So like making me learn how to tap dance. Like
- 2:02I, I went to like three classes and I was like,
- 2:04this is bullshit. I don't need to tap dance.
- 2:07And then it's like during the show, it's like,
- 2:09yeah, you're going to tap dancer in this. No,
- 2:11we're like, fuck. did they just give you soft
- 2:14shoes and then they put tap sounds over it no
- 2:16i i learned to do the little bits of like i was
- 2:19background time i wasn't like fair enough yeah
- 2:21you were the cuck you were in the cuck chair
- 2:23yeah i was like look i'm so excited it's a musical
- 2:27and i'm a non -singing character let's go that
- 2:30far that is my energy but i got i had a cool
- 2:35workout scene where i had one of those like uh
- 2:38one piece workout uniforms yeah yeah and uh i
- 2:42did some like super manly lifts and lunges nice
- 2:46there's uh i think it was for season three or
- 2:49season four of new girl uh they did like a little
- 2:52musical like short thing and during rehearsal
- 2:56like jake johnson would just be in the back like
- 2:59pretending to like do the moves yeah the director
- 3:03be like you got the shake he's like got it so
- 3:05when they went to film it he didn't actually
- 3:06know how to do any of it. So in the final cut,
- 3:09he's just like flailing because he's never bothered
- 3:12to learn it. I mean, that show is gold. If you
- 3:16fake shit hard enough, you know, that show is
- 3:19really gold. What a good show. Yeah. One of the
- 3:22few like serialized shows that I've watched that
- 3:25I really enjoy. Yeah. So when I'm just going
- 3:28to give you one more. I'm your host, Sean. See
- 3:34you in the next part. you're my co -host okay
- 3:38next next part so i was leaving the bar today
- 3:43and like right as i got in my car i got a text
- 3:47like um hayden's ex -girlfriend alert and i'm
- 3:54like fuck and i'm like thinking is this the day
- 3:57that i miss a recording because Because I have
- 4:02to go back inside and meet one of Hayden's exes
- 4:04and talk to them. And you guys would have been
- 4:08fine with that, right? If I ditched out. If you
- 4:10continue to troll on Hayden. Yeah, I would have
- 4:14probably respected that. I mean, we everybody's
- 4:17had one absence except me. I'm allowed one. You
- 4:21got to make it a good one. That would be a great
- 4:23one. Dunk on our boy. That's pretty good. Yeah,
- 4:26that is pretty good. Sorry, Hayden. Yeah. Long
- 4:29story short. Yeah, it was really hard for me
- 4:32not to engage in a text conversation while driving
- 4:35over here. I'm just getting texts of like, as
- 4:38I was leaving, I was like the one in the sports
- 4:40bra. And that just set things off. And I wasn't
- 4:43sure it was not the one in the sports bra. Wait,
- 4:47was that a new one? What? No, that was just somebody
- 4:50who is walking in as I was walking out. Oh, sorry.
- 4:54I'm just naming the only woman I noticed in the
- 4:57bar as I left. I see. That wasn't one of our
- 5:00immediate friends who I know has not touched
- 5:02Hayden's penis. Do we know that anyone has? We
- 5:05know one person has. Are you talking about a
- 5:08parent when she was a child? Yeah, Susie. Hayden
- 5:13doesn't ever listen to this podcast, so he can't
- 5:15get mad at that joke. That's true. That's true.
- 5:17Hayden's got a hot mom. But to be honest, I'd
- 5:21Greco -Roman wrestle his dad any day. like just
- 5:24for funsies yeah just all greased up what was
- 5:26that movie was it the ladies man where at the
- 5:29end there's like a will ferrell wrestling like
- 5:32baby oil scene oh man i have no idea i think
- 5:37it was the ladies man somebody in the comments
- 5:40please tell me what movie i'm thinking about
- 5:42i cannot which oiled up will ferrell movie is
- 5:45referring to also he's nick yeah yeah and my
- 5:49co -host And our producer. Hi, I'm Peter. And
- 5:56in this podcast, we sometimes talk about Nicolas
- 5:59Cage movies. Not this week. He's in it, but it's
- 6:02not his film. It's tough, these early phase movies,
- 6:06because he really is not a feature. Well, he's
- 6:09got more of a character in this, at least. Totally.
- 6:11Like, he is actually a featured actor. Yes. Among
- 6:15fucking 50. Oh, he's got a great cast. Sorry,
- 6:19Sean, we're just going to. Yeah, you're getting
- 6:20steamrolled. No, I was going to say, this is
- 6:23the first time we've really seen him seeing that
- 6:26like budging of that budding of that character
- 6:28actor we've come to love so well. Totally. That
- 6:31was that was my one critique of this entire thing.
- 6:33Let me get right to the Nick Cage judgment. Also,
- 6:37we're talking about Cotton Club. It felt like
- 6:39proto Nick Cage and he was just sort of like
- 6:41kicking the tires. Yeah. And, you know, didn't
- 6:44have enough time to really like do his thing.
- 6:47And I wanted more. Yeah. You know, at this point,
- 6:50how much more do you think Francis Ford Coppola
- 6:53was going to give his young nephew and his first
- 6:57like featured role? Well, no, because he had
- 6:59Valley Girl already. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Valley
- 7:01Girl came out. And then he gave him Peggy Sue
- 7:03after this. So like it's not like he quit. Yeah.
- 7:07But it's not like he liked Cage's decision making
- 7:11skills in Peggy Sue. So like. I'm sure there
- 7:15was a little more control by Coppola and a little
- 7:21less willingness to explore from Cage. So I think
- 7:25it was a little both. Yeah, that's probably right.
- 7:27But he had a pretty straightforward role. He
- 7:28played the brother of Richard Gere. Yeah, Richard
- 7:34Gere. Dixie Dwyer. I liked. Richard Gere's creep
- 7:38-ass mustache. I love a pencil mustache. It was
- 7:42really working for me. I don't know why. And
- 7:44like Cage also has kind of a shitty like creeper
- 7:47stache, but Gere's is real on point. It was a
- 7:50good time for that. Everybody looks like John
- 7:52Waters. This is a proper period piece of like
- 7:56the late 1920s, early 1930s because we get Nick
- 8:00Cage, high -waisted pants, suspenders, no shirt.
- 8:04Oh, yeah. I thought you were going to say unabashed
- 8:06N -words. Well, that too is of an era. You guys
- 8:10made it seem like there were so many more. There
- 8:13are like six. There's a lot in there. There's
- 8:17not. When I'm not watching a Tarantino film,
- 8:20more than one set of phalanges worth of N -words.
- 8:28It's more than I'm accustomed to in a day. Yeah.
- 8:31Larry Fishburne dropped like. Larry, it's it's
- 8:35the white people ones that are the harder ones.
- 8:37And you're right. There's only about six of those,
- 8:39but you add them all together. Those are the
- 8:41hard are ones. Yeah, that's true. I do like how
- 8:45they beat the shit out of that one bouncer, though.
- 8:47Oh, yeah. Which is to say Lawrence Fishburne's
- 8:50character beats up a white guy who was a real
- 8:53piece of shit. Yeah. OK, so this is so we already
- 8:56you already told us what like you wanted more
- 8:58of from this film, which is more cage. I wanted
- 9:00more of. Any fucking narrative in this film,
- 9:03because there's like three or four through lines
- 9:06that all just kind of are happening around each
- 9:09other. Yeah. But there's no there's no real build
- 9:13to anything because to the Fishburne bathroom
- 9:16beating. That starts off because, oh, God, I
- 9:20have IMDb open up here because there's this.
- 9:23It's a pretty decent, pretty spectacular cast.
- 9:25Gregory Hines, his characters, and he's a dancer.
- 9:30He's a tap dancer. He's a featured artist at
- 9:33the Cotton Club. Yes. He's in love with a singer.
- 9:37And like the stage director keeps telling him,
- 9:40like, keep your hands off the merchandise. And
- 9:41like, you know, kind of roughs him up a bit.
- 9:43So Gregory Hines, a Sandman's like, I'm gonna
- 9:46kill him. I'm gonna kill him. And gets Fishburne,
- 9:49who is a gangster to like deal with it. Well,
- 9:53he's a pimp. Yeah. Bumpy roads. Yeah. Years pass.
- 9:58And that dealing with it is. A bathroom beating
- 10:00many years later, which is fairly large for this
- 10:06Jim Crow era. Yeah, I mean, that's a pretty bold
- 10:10ass move. Yeah. I mean, considering people are
- 10:12getting like shot down into the street in this
- 10:14movie. I mean, they did make him like lick the
- 10:18toilet and swirled him. Oh, yeah, they swirled
- 10:20him real good. Pretty power move. You're right.
- 10:24This movie could have had a much tighter. It's
- 10:29two hours and like eight minutes or something
- 10:31like that. And it feels like four. I mean, it
- 10:35feels lengthy. You feel every minute and maybe
- 10:38a few extra. They could tighten the script up.
- 10:41They could define some of these stories that
- 10:45are in it. It is pretty central about Dwyer and
- 10:48Vera and their relationship with Dutch the gangster.
- 10:55Yeah. And Oni. Yeah. Played by Hoskins, Bob Hoskins.
- 10:59Yeah. Fucking great role. He's like such a lovable
- 11:02guy until he's like, I will chop your head off.
- 11:04And you're like, you will. Yeah, that's fair.
- 11:07I get it. Yeah, I don't know. Like to try and
- 11:11summarize this is tough because you're right.
- 11:12There are sort of like a couple different arcs.
- 11:14And the only ones that really matter are Dixie
- 11:17and Vera kind of tangentially to that. And then
- 11:21Sandman, right? Yeah. Well, I mean, let's just.
- 11:24The major arcs are, say, like the Dixie and the
- 11:27Sandman arcs. And Cage's character is involved
- 11:31with the Dixie Dwyer story. Right. Brothers.
- 11:35Not so much in the Sandman story. Also, hey,
- 11:39we've got two pairs of brothers here. Oh, yeah.
- 11:41Because Sandman's brother, who is also Gregory
- 11:44Hines's real brother, is in the movie. Yeah.
- 11:49And they're dance partners. So two brother stories.
- 11:52Until. Until Sandman betrays him. Hey, they get
- 11:56tight again. Yeah, the kiss of fame, man. Yeah.
- 11:59And then an actual brotherly kiss on the lips
- 12:02later. Yeah, they really got all three. Yeah.
- 12:06Brother loving. No, I liked their characters
- 12:09actually a lot. One, I like dancing and tap dancing
- 12:12was cool. I also think that that era is really
- 12:16impressive what they were doing. You know, having
- 12:19to perform for a shit ton of white people. Probably
- 12:22not great. yeah um especially white people like
- 12:26nicholas cage who heckle you as you as he walks
- 12:29to his shitty table yeah he's a piece of shit
- 12:31yeah he was i will say taking that aspect out
- 12:36of the era just the nightclubs the old nightclub
- 12:40scene though is so fascinating because like now
- 12:43if i want to see live music i gotta buy tickets
- 12:45three months out to go see a show i want whereas
- 12:49before the you know advent of The Internet. It
- 12:53was local. It was always locals only. Yeah, it
- 12:55was locals only. You went and saw people you
- 12:58knew like it was like a community. And that's
- 13:01what culture was. And I don't know. I was like,
- 13:04oh, that's cool. I wish we had that. Yeah. And
- 13:08more commonly, it was you go to the club you
- 13:10go to and who's performing is who's performing.
- 13:14You're not even following like a marquee. Right.
- 13:17Yeah. I mean, so this is like. partially a love
- 13:22letter to like the actual cotton club you know
- 13:25it's somewhat historical drama i don't know how
- 13:30much of the characters are based on real people
- 13:32other than like you know cab calloway's like
- 13:36they have cab calloway on stage at one point
- 13:38charlie chaplin is like in the audience and yeah
- 13:41yeah he does his little potato dance yeah yeah
- 13:46classic um was there's no other way you would
- 13:50recognize that no fucking hitler's here too that's
- 13:53cool they didn't even give him the stash yeah
- 13:55he was the 30s he was still an okay he was an
- 13:58artist that's right yeah the like but the basic
- 14:01premise of the film is you know there is a looming
- 14:05potential dang war tension uh richard gare's
- 14:10character dixie is a musician just trying to
- 14:15like make his Get his big break and accidentally
- 14:19winds up saving Dutch, a gangster, from an assassination
- 14:24attempt and becomes kind of his driver, his go
- 14:27to man, like at, you know, on pain of death.
- 14:31That doesn't seem to matter very long because
- 14:33he gets out and I don't know, then it kind of
- 14:36just loses the plot. The last 45 minutes picks
- 14:39up, but like. There's a whole bit in the middle
- 14:42where he goes off to Hollywood. The second act
- 14:45is very much less of a Dixie Dwyer story as that's,
- 14:50I think where it picks up more of the Sandman
- 14:53story. Like the second act is where both characters
- 14:56kind of get into their, their big moment and
- 15:00Dixie, he leaves for Hollywood, but Sandman,
- 15:04he gets into like his solo career. So it stays
- 15:08local with him. While Dixie goes out and then
- 15:12as Sandman and his brother make up in the third
- 15:14act, Dixie comes back and resolves his story.
- 15:18That's kind of how I took it or where I would
- 15:21address that. I did like when the mobsters are
- 15:24like evaluating if Dixie's a good candidate to
- 15:27go to Hollywood. They're like. He's a terrible
- 15:30actor, but he doesn't look like a fruit. Yeah.
- 15:32Yeah. He's not a fruit or a commie. But like,
- 15:36I'm not quite sure why, like why Hoskins sends
- 15:40him to Hollywood. Like he does it as a favor
- 15:42to get him out of from under Dutch. Yeah. But
- 15:46I don't understand why. Hoskins is a sweetheart.
- 15:48I mean, everybody seems to actually really like
- 15:50his character. I mean, he's a piece of shit and
- 15:52he's a bad guy, but he's also like kind of doing
- 15:55good stuff. I, this movie has such a wild swing
- 16:00in the third act because the first act is gangland
- 16:05mobster film. The second act's more about like
- 16:09backstage drama at these clubs, competing clubs.
- 16:14And the third act just leans right into kind
- 16:16of some magical realism and breaks like the fourth
- 16:19wall breaks like a wall between like this, what's
- 16:23happening on stage and like what's happening.
- 16:25in like people's lives and it ends with like
- 16:29a really weird kind of like staged so wave to
- 16:34the camera yeah the ending is super weird i loved
- 16:37it i loved the end of this movie like the last
- 16:39the last 20 minutes of this movie i was riveted
- 16:42i think that was part of my problem with this
- 16:44is like i had a really really hard time i just
- 16:47was distracted a lot by like literally anything
- 16:51else other than the movie even though i was really
- 16:54enjoying it like the music was great the acting
- 16:57i think is pretty solid the cast is amazing i
- 17:00think the directing was pretty good there's really
- 17:02good moments of writing like there's some good
- 17:04character interactions yeah but yeah like i couldn't
- 17:07i wasn't captured ever i i was able to just let
- 17:12this movie kind of play out and yeah i was really
- 17:16enjoying elements of it like throughout i really
- 17:20enjoy this movie uh to be frank. Um, but yeah,
- 17:25if, if something came up and I looked at my phone,
- 17:27I was like, okay, that's fine. I'm not going
- 17:28to miss, like, they're not making like split
- 17:31second, like character moments. It's the movie's
- 17:33long enough. Like all development happens in
- 17:36a span of time. Yeah. It's not like, Oh, and
- 17:39this happened. So I missed a, a beat in the film.
- 17:42I was able to just be like, Oh, okay. Like I'm
- 17:45enjoying and just experiencing the film in my
- 17:49day. We don't have to say where you pirated your
- 17:52film, but was your audio super fucked up? No,
- 17:57mine was OK. OK, mine was fine. It was like very
- 18:01delayed. So that also threw me off. I had a problem
- 18:05with the subtitles originally. And as soon as
- 18:09we were like these subtitles, like what's going
- 18:11on? Because it looked like they were just mentally
- 18:14speaking to each other, like Dixie and Vera at
- 18:16one point. Nice. And then like. A whole scene
- 18:20later, this dialogue starts to happen. It's like,
- 18:22oh, OK, no fucking shut the subtitles. Everything
- 18:25is fucked on these. I'll struggle. I'll use my
- 18:28ears like God intended. I also had no subtitles.
- 18:33Yeah, it's fine. But my audio is OK. Mine had
- 18:38subtitles, but they would come and go like they
- 18:41would just turn themselves off. Cool. Yeah, I
- 18:44just manually turn them off. I took control of
- 18:47that situation. So, OK, the cast of characters
- 18:50is great, right? Like everyone is good. Fishburn's
- 18:53in there. Diane Lane, super hot as usual. Like
- 18:57I liked her as a brunette. I liked her as a blonde.
- 18:59She was a good like flapper era type person.
- 19:04Tom Waits again. Tom Waits was back in there.
- 19:06I like to scratch his voice. I had to go back
- 19:09and ask Josie where Tom Waits was because I never
- 19:12recognize his face, even though we just saw him
- 19:15in the last film, too. Well, he looks really
- 19:17different as Benny. Yeah. And this was a very
- 19:20quick scene. Yeah. Yeah. But this is also the
- 19:23least Tom Waits I feel like Tom Waits has ever
- 19:25looked. Probably true. Yeah. I mean, the most
- 19:28Tom Waits is probably... Rumblefish? Oh, that
- 19:32superhero. No. The superhero movie. Mystery Man.
- 19:36Oh, yeah. Mystery Man. But one of my favorites
- 19:40was probably fucking Frenchie. Oh, Frenchie's
- 19:43my favorite, dude. Frenchie's such a good character
- 19:45just in general. And then, like, the fact that
- 19:47that was Herman Munster is awesome. Like, yeah.
- 19:51I think that was the best written, best acted.
- 19:54Yeah, he was Herman Munster. He's Fred Gwynn.
- 19:57Oh, I love that so much. Yeah, he stole the show
- 20:01every time he was on the scene. Well, there's...
- 20:05There's this whole weird scene, and this goes
- 20:07to my whole, like, how disjointed this film is.
- 20:10There's a scene with him and Hoskins where he
- 20:12gets, Frenchie gets kidnapped by Nick Cage. For
- 20:15reasons? Hoskins pays for ransom, just for ransom,
- 20:18for $50 ,000. Cage felt like he was owed. Yeah,
- 20:22and, like, Frenchie gets back, you know, and
- 20:26starts giving Hoskins shit for, like, only paying
- 20:29$500 ransom and, like, breaks Hoskins' watch.
- 20:32And then I was like, I paid fifty thousand. And
- 20:34then Frenchie gives him a gift and it's a new,
- 20:36better watch. So it was just a joke. Yeah, dude,
- 20:41I fucking love that. That's probably one of my
- 20:43favorite scenes in the film. It was a great scene.
- 20:45He just shows up and he's like, you know what?
- 20:48I got this boy of mine. I'm a troll him. Like,
- 20:51yes, I was just taken hostage and I know my dude
- 20:54paid fifty grand for me. I'm going to come in
- 20:58hot. I'm going to accuse him of shortchanging
- 21:00my life. I'm going to destroy his property, but
- 21:03I'm going to replace it with something like leaps
- 21:06and bounds better because I know he just shelled
- 21:08out shit tons of money for my life. So he's getting
- 21:12from my heart like a thank you, dude. Great scene.
- 21:16Not saying it's not a great scene. It's hilarious.
- 21:19It's weird structurally in a narrative. everything
- 21:23yes i think every frenchie scene exists kind
- 21:27of in its own story like it's its own movie yeah
- 21:30he does not he like he barely fits into this
- 21:34film and i love it he's just a giant kind of
- 21:36intimidating dude who talks a little he looks
- 21:39like a fucking frankenstein yeah it's like there's
- 21:41a reason he was herman munster and his name is
- 21:45frenchie and he He's just kind of like your goofball
- 21:50comedy element to a movie that never asked for
- 21:53a goofball comedy. That was what that's my quote,
- 21:56though, was someone says, what about your nickname?
- 21:59Frenchie? He says, that's different. I'm trustworthy.
- 22:02That's my quote, too. Yeah, because Frenchie
- 22:05doesn't trust anyone with a nickname. Yeah. Since
- 22:09you guys both gave your quote, I just want to
- 22:12give mine, which is just when they get to the
- 22:14comic book for the first time. You can't do that,
- 22:17Sean. All right, go ahead. Take a fresh one on
- 22:21that. Nicolas Cage is just hollering at the dancers
- 22:23and he says, look at the rump on that one. Just
- 22:26because I love the word rump. I love colloquialisms
- 22:29for butt. Yeah, that is good. He was so awkward
- 22:36going back to their table, like standing by the
- 22:39stage and like hollering at all the dancers where
- 22:43like. Clearly nobody else does that at this club.
- 22:46Yeah. You could see their outsider isms kind
- 22:49of really showing in that sort of thing. I mean,
- 22:53seeing as this isn't a cage podcast, we should
- 22:55like talk about what he does in this film. So
- 22:58he plays Dixie's brother who wants to be a gangster,
- 23:01like wants to get in with Dutch and uses Dixie's
- 23:05like random happenstance of meeting Dutch to
- 23:09like get on the payroll. He's just gotten married
- 23:12to Jennifer Gray of Ferris Bueller fame. Cool.
- 23:19And then disappears for a good chunk of the movie,
- 23:23then comes back demanding like a bigger take
- 23:28to be like a partner, you know? Yeah, you see
- 23:30him every once in a while and he's kind of just
- 23:32muscle. So you see like his muscle and he's like,
- 23:35oh, I need more money because he shot some people.
- 23:38So he's like. there's a little bit of reasoning
- 23:42for why he's coming back for more i mean i i
- 23:45knew he was in the background but like you know
- 23:47like he's not yeah but our listeners don't watch
- 23:50these movies and we barely describe what happens
- 23:53in these films we kind of do sometimes it's better
- 23:57when we have a guest that we can make do it oh
- 23:59man yeah they talk good they talk pretty someday
- 24:03uh but then you know nick cage's little sidekick
- 24:07gets killed so he has his boys mow down that
- 24:12guy, mow down Frenchie's, like, not Frenchie,
- 24:14Dutch's right -hand man. Couple kids get killed.
- 24:18I was like, holy shit, they killed kids. Oh,
- 24:20yeah. Oh, one of those kids, Sofia Coppola. Oh,
- 24:24tight. Yeah, Josie was, we think it is. Yeah,
- 24:28she was listed in the credits for, like, Corpse
- 24:33Girl on Street or something like that. She's
- 24:35the one who sold an apple. Yeah. She didn't get
- 24:37shot. Oh, maybe. Maybe she got shot. Wait, OK,
- 24:40so here's where I got really confused with this
- 24:42movie. So Cage's buddy gets killed. I got that
- 24:45part. OK, that was Bob Hoskins, man, who did
- 24:49it. Or was that Dutch's man who was Dutch's man?
- 24:53But he works for Dutch. Yeah, but he was clearly
- 24:57not in Dutch's favor, especially after he crumpled
- 25:00up the hundred and fifty and threw it back at
- 25:02him. And I was going to get a psycho. So then
- 25:06he he kills that dude. But then steals Frenchie.
- 25:11Yeah. Why? Why wouldn't you keep fucking with?
- 25:13But that's a different dude. Frenchie doesn't
- 25:15work for Dutch. It was about the money. He's
- 25:18a he just wants to be a gangster. That's all
- 25:20it is. He's not smart. He's dumb. Yeah, he was
- 25:23a dumb character. Yeah. Like that character was
- 25:26not. Well, like both this and Rumblefish kind
- 25:29of exists in this whole. The end of like a criminal
- 25:33era, like Rumblefish, it was the end of like.
- 25:36You know, street youths fighting. This is kind
- 25:39of the end of kind of gangland gangster era.
- 25:43And Nick Cage is he wants to be a part of that.
- 25:46He idolizes it, even though it's not really what
- 25:50he thinks it is. And it ultimately gets him killed
- 25:52because he kind of treats it like a game and
- 25:55then gets mowed down real bad. Yeah. Tommy Gund.
- 26:00In a phone booth. In a phone booth. Hard to get
- 26:03out of a phone booth. Can't defend yourself.
- 26:05door's too silly it's true well i really did
- 26:10appreciate so he gets like referred to as a mad
- 26:13dog in the press he's like this hated criminal
- 26:16but every time you see uh either dutch's men
- 26:20or um what was uh you can just call them the
- 26:25dutchman the Dutchman or Oni's Hoskins men. Anytime
- 26:29they walk into a place and they're about to do
- 26:31a hit, they like tell the staff to get out or
- 26:33to get down. Like they give people nods. Like
- 26:35it's very, those assassinations are very Columbine
- 26:39esque of like, Hey, don't go to school today.
- 26:43Sorry. I've been watching a lot of Columbine
- 26:45videos. Oh, why? Yeah. that's a terrible answer
- 26:51as you can give i suppose i don't even know what
- 26:54started it but then like obviously youtube like
- 26:58you do you watch one video of something kind
- 27:00of obscure and they're like have i got the playlist
- 27:04for you and it's like well how flat is this earth
- 27:07not as flat as you'd think but Pretty fucking
- 27:13flat. Why are you not allowed to fly over Antarctica?
- 27:16Yeah. Makes you wonder. It's not science. I'll
- 27:19tell you that for free. Ice wall. I forgot where
- 27:25I was with that. But yeah, Nick Cage. We weren't
- 27:28going anywhere. Yeah, we got into Nicolas Cage's
- 27:32death in this. Yeah. That's a pretty good death.
- 27:35I did like that he had like a handful of Skittles
- 27:36or whatever the fuck those were. Oh yeah, he
- 27:38had like some hard candies from the bar and died
- 27:41and it was just blood and Skittles. Yeah. So
- 27:44romantic, that death. Yeah. Sure. I mean, like,
- 27:49not romantic as in like heart -throbbing romantic,
- 27:51but like... I mean, his wife was there to witness
- 27:53it. The way it was shot, the filming. Yeah. Okay,
- 27:58so I just want to say, like... i've not watched
- 28:01a lot of coppola's films prior to like these
- 28:04uh and especially seeing like rumble fish and
- 28:07this back to back just the amount of stagecraft
- 28:10the love of like of i mean i want to say practical
- 28:15effects but that's not what i mean because it's
- 28:17the early 80s but just the love of like stagecraft
- 28:22and right location sets and things like that
- 28:26location sets like all that stuff all that stuff
- 28:28that very much hearkens to like live theater
- 28:30performance is so well done and so beautiful
- 28:34and i just love all of it yeah this is definitely
- 28:39a cinematic experience that speaks more to kind
- 28:45of like that well it's an experience kind of
- 28:48film so when i i guess this is what filmmakers
- 28:52would be talking about when they criticize marvel
- 28:55movies and say like cinema is dead it's like
- 29:00yeah well i mean they're totally yeah they're
- 29:02different for sure yeah but blockbusters have
- 29:06never been put up against like art films either
- 29:10it's like that's a stupid way to compare movies
- 29:12your summer movies versus your indie films so
- 29:15i can get out of here scorsese i did read that
- 29:20um apparently the original version of this had
- 29:23i think four more musical numbers and focused
- 29:27much more on sandman and his brother and the
- 29:30relationship with um what's her name lila yeah
- 29:33and um the studios were like we want less that
- 29:40yeah i was like oh boo i think that might have
- 29:46been the version i saw because that version did
- 29:47come out in like 2019 yeah there was like a special
- 29:50cut So, yeah, it's possible that you did, and
- 29:54maybe that's why my audio sucked shit and yours
- 29:57was better. I think I just had normal audio.
- 30:01Did yours have credits for Francis Ford Coppola
- 30:03or Francis Coppola? That was the end of the film.
- 30:08I don't know. He's in the beginning, too. He's
- 30:10a director. Hold on. Was this on B words, P word?
- 30:18We'll cut this part out. No, I like it better
- 30:21if we just talk about B words, P word. Yeah,
- 30:24we'll keep B words, P word in. That's where you
- 30:28watched yours. Yeah. Where did you watch yours?
- 30:31Not that. Oh, OK. Yeah. Yeah. I was all on top
- 30:34of the B words, P word. Yeah. I still have had
- 30:36a hard time getting any of that to work for me
- 30:39ever. Really? So, you know, I don't try that
- 30:42hard. Well, that's fair. I can't fast forward
- 30:44as well on there. I can't double speed the same
- 30:46way I want. You know, yeah. Double speed. amazing
- 30:50holy shit so fast it's a tommy gun yeah so can
- 30:56we just say like later on in the film we see
- 30:58vera's which is like the club dutch bot for his
- 31:02side piece uh so much more so much so much less
- 31:09interesting than the cotton club yeah it's boring
- 31:11it's whitewashed you know yeah no i really enjoyed
- 31:14watching like through the years that the film
- 31:18takes place the improvements done on the cotton
- 31:22club yeah like you get the you know uh strip
- 31:25lights on the floor and everything and who those
- 31:27murals though oh yeah yeah i understand this
- 31:33is a period piece but yeah yeah i did like the
- 31:37um cab calloway mini the moocher yep that was
- 31:41good that was just like always think about blues
- 31:43brothers blues brothers i was just like i just
- 31:47watched that i'm like Do I have time to watch
- 31:48Blues Brothers before the podcast? Just cram
- 31:51that in there. Yes. I watch that movie at least
- 31:55once a year. That's one of my favorite all time
- 31:56films. It's a great movie. I like it. I think
- 31:59I've only watched it once in my life, but I don't
- 32:02really watch a lot of things in my life. I don't
- 32:05either. Just Nick Cage movies and generally that.
- 32:09Yeah, I mean, I suppose at this point, too, we
- 32:11don't have to watch as many Nick Cage movies
- 32:12again and again. No, there's more. Concept has
- 32:15changed. There's more room in my life for sword
- 32:17and sorcery. Ooh, I do. We talk about your masturbation
- 32:22habits enough. Nope. There's never too much.
- 32:26Did you ever play the I think it's an iPhone
- 32:29game sword and sorcery. sword and sorcery sword
- 32:33and sorcery it's pretty good uh no super brothers
- 32:37sword and sorcery okay yeah not bad i don't play
- 32:40a lot of mobile games yeah i don't either usually
- 32:43but it's like a weird that one scratches that
- 32:46itch yeah it's pretty cool uh what's it like
- 32:49is it kind of like the old uh oh what was that
- 32:52arcade game golden gauntlet or whatever i know
- 32:56exactly what you're talking about dragon's lair
- 32:58was no i don't know what you're talking about
- 33:02yeah i don't know what you're talking it's fine
- 33:03there was a gauntlet arcade game golden oh god
- 33:08yeah not gauntlet maybe i do know that game yeah
- 33:12where there were different classes and stuff
- 33:15you could choose yeah i only played that on nes
- 33:17oh really i was terrible at it oh i wonder if
- 33:20i could get an emulator on my phone for that
- 33:22because i would play that that'd be fucking rad
- 33:24dude yeah dude i'm about to get so much less
- 33:27work done oh yeah especially if i can play the
- 33:30game without fucking kid icarus and all that
- 33:33shit hell yeah you know what game i would play
- 33:36right now bubble bobble yeah yeah i'd bubble
- 33:41some that wasn't a constant one in my life i
- 33:50didn't play a lot of that uh my formative years
- 33:53were around uh altered beast rise from your grave
- 33:57that game fucking slaps dude that was second
- 34:02right yes yeah okay that was a good game power
- 34:08up so that was what there was like the chick
- 34:10there was the barbarian and there was the dwarf
- 34:12uh was there a dwarf i don't remember maybe i'm
- 34:15thinking of a different thing i think it was
- 34:17just like the two i might be thinking of a different
- 34:19game did you ever run around in like their underwear
- 34:22with some chains and then you get like a power
- 34:23up and you kind of like go out slightly like
- 34:26canthra pick or whatever and then like i'm gonna
- 34:29look this up and then you get another one and
- 34:31then you're like a full wearman did you ever
- 34:34play the dungeons and dragons like beat them
- 34:40up like arcade beat them up i think that's what
- 34:43i'm thinking There was a Dungeons and Dragons
- 34:46arcade beat -em -up from, like, I want to say
- 34:47Konami. Like, it was a Japanese game. Was it
- 34:51the animated series characters? So it's just
- 34:53children beating each other? Original characters,
- 34:57but you leveled up. Like, you got experience.
- 34:59You leveled up. You collected items. Like, they
- 35:01really kind of took the theme. Wow, this sounds
- 35:04a lot like Shaq Fu. Like, there's a story, and,
- 35:10like, you kind of get better. But the story doesn't.
- 35:14Yeah, but the story doesn't because you're Shaq.
- 35:16Because it's Shaq Fu, right? I fucking love Shaq
- 35:18Fu. So bad. Do you remember? Oh, man, Shaq was
- 35:23hot for a minute. It was weird. Do you remember
- 35:27when Shaq had the like Arizona like cream sodas
- 35:31or whatever? It was like the soda Shaq brand.
- 35:35No. Oh, man. And they were giant cans with Shaq
- 35:38on them. Yeah. Well, I mean, they were Arizona
- 35:40tea size cans. Yeah. Fucking still 99 cents.
- 35:45I just remember when they tried to make him a
- 35:48movie star. Oh, dude, Man of Steel is still great,
- 35:53and so is Kazam. Is it? I've never watched Steel
- 36:02all the way through, but it's based on the DC
- 36:05character. Does Superman exist in that universe?
- 36:09You know, I haven't watched it since theaters.
- 36:12I watched it in theater. Oh, boy. I think that
- 36:16came. Did that come out the same year as Joe's
- 36:19apartment? Oh, probably. Because that's the year
- 36:22that my parents sent me down to L .A. to hang
- 36:24out with my uncle. And he just didn't know what
- 36:27to do with us at work. So he was just like because
- 36:29he was like a photographer. He's like, I can't
- 36:31have these fucking kids around. I rent half my
- 36:33two years apart. Two years. One year apart. OK.
- 36:37uh yeah he'd be like i don't know what to do
- 36:39with these kids i rent have my fucking studio
- 36:42to a porn shop or a porn studio and so he would
- 36:47just drop us off at uh the theater in the morning
- 36:50we're like 12 year old kids from rural oregon
- 36:53and he drops us off at a megaplex in los angeles
- 36:56he's like i'll be back in six hours enjoy joe's
- 37:01apartment and Whatever else is out right now.
- 37:03He'd give us money for one ticket. This is my
- 37:05ultra conservative, like Rush Limbaugh listening
- 37:08uncle who looks like a shorter, fatter Michael
- 37:12Moore. And he'd drop us off at the theater and
- 37:15he'd be like, here's enough money for one ticket
- 37:18each. I'll see you in six hours. So I can't tell
- 37:22you how many times I went back and forth just
- 37:24watching Joe's apartment. Like I'd start some
- 37:26movie and it's like, this movie sucks. I'm going
- 37:29to go. God, my dad's calling me. It's like he
- 37:32knows I'm talking about his family. And then
- 37:36I just always go back to Joe's apartment. I got
- 37:38a real fun fact. I got a real fun fact for the
- 37:42kid from Kazam is now just his career is just
- 37:46playing like scuzzy mid -level bad guys and things.
- 37:50Perfect. Really? Like what was his last scuzzy
- 37:53mid -level bad guy role? He was he's in a bunch
- 37:56of Veronica Mars. Never seen it. Josie would.
- 38:00He was in some bones. Josie would know. Yeah.
- 38:04He was in blue bloods. He just plays a gangster.
- 38:06He just plays like he's a TV gangster. He's a
- 38:09TV gangster. Yes. But he plays like ethnic adjacent
- 38:13gangster, like ethnically ambiguous gangster.
- 38:16Oh, he's he's the new Ben Kingsley. All right.
- 38:24Box office for July 1996. So like a big banger
- 38:28summer hit 96. Superstar actors. Well, one and
- 38:34then one like. That is now super considered to
- 38:38be a great actor. Cool world. No. Big sci -fi
- 38:44shenanigan. Aliens invade Earth. Is it Mars attacks?
- 38:52No. It's the other one that's not funny. Independence
- 38:56Day? Yes. Okay. All right. Who was the big actor
- 39:01in that? Jeff Goldblum? Because he was already
- 39:06huge. Fucking Earth Women are easy? Come on.
- 39:08Will Smith was the big actor for that one. Jeff
- 39:12Goldblum was like the good get. Wait, the rapper
- 39:16Will Smith? The guy from Parents Just Don't Understand?
- 39:21He's rapping again. He put out a new album. Yeah,
- 39:24he did. It's badly. There's a great music video
- 39:28for it. It's bad. Yeah. So I never cared for
- 39:32his rapping. And to be real, if I have to listen
- 39:34to summertime one more time, like it's only July
- 39:383rd. If I have to hear summertime one more time
- 39:42on the radio. So relevant for us, number seven
- 39:48was The Rock. OK. So you maybe went and saw that
- 39:51after you saw Joe's apartment. It's possible.
- 39:54Joe's apartment is not on this list. That does
- 39:56not surprise me. Number 11, Multiplicity. That's
- 39:59because you didn't get it all your money. I've
- 40:01never seen Multiplicity. Yeah. Did you see Eraser?
- 40:04Eraser? Not that summer. With Schwarzenegger.
- 40:07Yeah. What about Phenomenon with Travolta? I
- 40:11mean, I've seen these films, but not when I was
- 40:1311. Right. Striptease probably missed that one.
- 40:17I saw Striptease. in theaters well in a drive
- 40:21-in uh my dad took us to see uh lion king and
- 40:25um blank check as a double feature uh but striptease
- 40:29was playing on the screen behind us so none of
- 40:31the kids were paying attention to the fucking
- 40:33lion king nobody cared about simba's story incredible
- 40:37wait did i already say kazam was 12 no okay so
- 40:40kazam was 12 Wow. And then later Mission Impossible
- 40:44and then Dragonheart, which is what I saw for
- 40:46my birthday that year. Kazam outperformed Mission
- 40:50Impossible. Mission Impossible came out earlier.
- 40:53Oh, OK. So this is still right. It's tailing
- 40:56off. I was going to be like, are you fucking
- 40:58giving me Shaq? Got a higher opening weekend
- 41:02than Tom Cruise. Yeah, no, not the case. Unfortunate.
- 41:06Joe's apartment. It was such a shit. Oh, it's
- 41:10a terrible movie. Kevin O 'Connell is a terrible
- 41:12actor. But all those cockroaches, man. Yeah,
- 41:17great. That part was great characters. I miss
- 41:20Bob Hoskins. Yeah, Bob Hoskins is great. His
- 41:23character is great in this. Also, Shmi. Great
- 41:27Shmi. Oh, he was a good. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah,
- 41:30of course. Who framed Roger Rabbit? Amazing.
- 41:33That's a great, great performance. Bob Hoskins
- 41:36rules. Yeah. Yeah. And also in this movie, he
- 41:39rules like he's a bad guy and everyone knows
- 41:41he's a bad guy, but everyone's also like, yeah,
- 41:43he's all right. I like that guy. I love at the
- 41:46end of this movie. He's just like, yeah, I'm
- 41:48going to get out. I'm going to get out while
- 41:49the getting is good. Going to just go back to
- 41:52jail for six months and go own a horse farm.
- 41:55Yeah. But Frenchie hooked him up. He's like,
- 41:58yeah, you're going to love what we got you in
- 42:01Sing Sing. It's carpeted or whatever he said.
- 42:04Better than whatever you've been dealing with.
- 42:08Man, Frenchie. Yeah. What a dude. Fucking baller,
- 42:10dude. Oh, wait. We didn't talk about, and I feel
- 42:13like we have to mention, the knife to the throat
- 42:15scene. Oh, yeah. Frenchie's real, like, exhibition
- 42:19of insanity. Or Duchess. Yeah, Duchess. Sorry.
- 42:24Frenchie's cool. Yeah. When Dutch, like, just...
- 42:27Knives a guy through the throat. Gets on that
- 42:29guy. For telling a joke. Granted, a racist and
- 42:33anti -Semitic joke, but... Well, he was also,
- 42:36like... dutch's former like rival in the game
- 42:39like yeah he's competition yeah and they just
- 42:43and uh hoskins just brokered peace and dutch
- 42:47loses it and like knife through the back like
- 42:50front of the throat back of the throat yeah my
- 42:54note was oh damn throat stab yeah i started this
- 43:00movie uh i started this movie last night kind
- 43:02of late and i was just like i don't know if i'm
- 43:04getting into this tonight then like you know
- 43:07knife to the throat i'm like all right let's
- 43:10see where this goes yeah dutch was an interesting
- 43:12character i mean i don't think we have to spend
- 43:14a ton of time on it but like james remar plays
- 43:17a psycho really fucking well yeah yeah he's he's
- 43:21played a bad guy in i think every movie i've
- 43:23ever seen and it's like the face like his jaw
- 43:27just goes down he's pissed off and you can tell
- 43:31he's pissed you know it's like he's gonna fucking
- 43:34stab you with a knife or like a piece of bone
- 43:36from a ham or something you're like i'm not gonna
- 43:39fuck around with that guy i like that he gets
- 43:41killed in a urinal yeah well kind of well he
- 43:45was taking a leak and yeah he got shot he did
- 43:47wander out yeah he dies at the table but like
- 43:50arguably iced at a urinal yeah yeah again like
- 43:54another like weirdly anticlimactic scene like
- 43:56he just gets he you know threatens to get dixie
- 44:00then Five minutes later is gunned down in a bathroom
- 44:04and that and then that story is over. Yeah, I
- 44:08resolution, man. The amount of like overkill
- 44:11in that scene was impressive to me. It's like
- 44:14they shoot those dudes in the head like very
- 44:17effectively and then they shoot him a bunch and
- 44:21he's presumably dead and they walk out and then
- 44:23they Tommy gun everybody a whole bunch to make
- 44:28sure that the bullet in the brain didn't do it.
- 44:31Yeah. Probably destroy evidence. Just make it
- 44:33look a lot messier. Send a message. Destroy evidence.
- 44:37Yeah. Well, we want to know which bullet did
- 44:39it. Exactly. It's not a professional hit. That's
- 44:44true. Amateurs. Yeah. Yeah. They just all have
- 44:47these perfect circles in their foreheads. Also,
- 44:49you buy a fucking Tommy gun. You use a fucking
- 44:52Tommy gun. That's true. That sounds like a lot
- 44:55of fun. Yeah. Oh, I was just going to say, with
- 44:58both this and Rumblefish, like, The weird attention
- 45:01to gory detail in terms of bullet wounds is impressive.
- 45:06Yeah. Yeah. Coppola is weird. That's my final
- 45:10take on all of this. It's like Coppola is weird.
- 45:13Apparently he makes weird movies, very artsy
- 45:16movies. I have not seen Megalopolis. I don't
- 45:19know. It's a long weekend. Maybe I kind of want
- 45:22to now. Yeah, I mean, I'll try it someday, but
- 45:25I feel like that needs to be a like a Tenet movie
- 45:28where we we try and watch it together. Yeah,
- 45:31but it's four hours. Well, we can watch it backwards.
- 45:34That's a lot of trying to hang out together all
- 45:36at once. That's true. That is a lot. I like these
- 45:40in one hour segments. Yeah, like this isn't fucking.
- 45:43We'll hang out one hour a week for a month. Oh,
- 45:48man, we need to do an Ice Pirates podcast. uh
- 45:51yeah just continuously watching ice pirates yes
- 45:54and i'm always hung over as shit god i felt like
- 46:00death that day but it was the right movie it
- 46:04was the right movie for the day uh the set i
- 46:08enjoy i love the cinematography i enjoy all of
- 46:11the um performances individually um i'm never
- 46:17gonna go i'm never gonna re -watch this movie
- 46:19for the plot you can just say i'm never gonna
- 46:24re -watch this movie that's fine but there are
- 46:28definitely scenes i'm going to watch again i'm
- 46:30going to watch the end of this movie again i'm
- 46:32gonna watch a lot of like the cotton club like
- 46:35performances again like there are aspects of
- 46:37this movie just visually i want to see again
- 46:40i don't give a fuck about the plot of this film
- 46:42yeah uh i i could easily take this as I'll never
- 46:48watch this movie again, but I enjoyed it more
- 46:50than Rumblefish. See, I'm going to watch Rumblefish
- 46:54again. I really liked Rumblefish. Yeah, that's
- 46:57fine. What you do in Oregon, you can do in Oregon.
- 47:01Yeah. Nick Cage drag show. Yeah. Yeah. You have
- 47:06to go to that Nick Cage. I have tickets. I bought
- 47:09tickets immediately. Perfect. So for the listeners,
- 47:11if you live in the Portland area, Clinton Street
- 47:14Theater on the 24th of July, Uncaged and Nicolas
- 47:18Cage drag show. So that's going to be fucking
- 47:22wild. Yeah. Try to figure out which one is Sean.
- 47:25I really hope that somebody shows up in the character
- 47:27from Zandali when he shows up. Johnny, Jimmy,
- 47:33Johnny, whatever. And he shows up and he does
- 47:35that thing. Oh, yeah. His hair is backlit. somebody
- 47:40i i need to find this clip again somebody shared
- 47:43a video with me of a semi -renowned drag king
- 47:49who does a nick cage themed performance and i
- 47:56can't remember the song but the word or the the
- 47:59letter b the word b b was prominent in the song
- 48:02but every time that lyric came up it would just
- 48:04be like bees the breeze was it How do I live
- 48:10without bees? I've got the bees. How do I live?
- 48:18Is that it? No. That song sucks then. Yeah, fuck
- 48:22that. Yeah, our song kicks ass. Yeah, sorry you
- 48:25have a bad song, Sean. Old bad song, Sean. So,
- 48:31okay, last thing, because we haven't done this
- 48:33in a while, the Cage Performance Grid. Good movie,
- 48:37good Cage, bad, good, good, bad, bad, bad, bad,
- 48:40good, bad. Close enough. I think Nick Cage is
- 48:44pretty good in this. Like I said, this is the
- 48:48first time in kind of the start of his career
- 48:50where we see, you know, the hints of that character
- 48:52actor. And, you know, he doesn't have a lot of
- 48:55screen time, but he uses it well. And I'm like,
- 48:56yeah, that's Nick Cage. I like it. Yeah, I agree.
- 48:59I think Nick Cage does really well. I think it's
- 49:01a, you know, I'll even say it's a pretty good
- 49:03movie. You have to want that kind of movie. Yeah.
- 49:06If you're in the mood for this, I mean, it's
- 49:08long. It's yeah. The plot meanders. Yeah. Yeah.
- 49:12But it's interesting. I don't remember the last
- 49:16time I thought about Richard Gere outside of
- 49:19like romantic comedy. The last time I thought
- 49:20about Richard Gere was when we recorded Rumble
- 49:22Fish and I thought he was in The Outsiders because
- 49:24I was reading about Cotton Club earlier. So,
- 49:28yeah, that's the last time I thought about Richard
- 49:31Gere. I used to have a. oh god what was that
- 49:35like so there was a some kind of like form of
- 49:40media that looked like giant records you're talking
- 49:42about laser disc no they weren't like laser discs
- 49:45they looked like vinyl records but they were
- 49:49on these weird cassette things that were record
- 49:51like slightly larger than a record and inserted
- 49:54whoa and i don't know what it is but i used to
- 49:56have a copy of breathless on that that i just
- 50:00kept because for some reason there was a part
- 50:02of my identity that was like oh that's nick he
- 50:05likes richard gear movies this was like at the
- 50:08height of his like gerbil butt scandal oh yeah
- 50:10and i was like yeah nick's big on gerbil but
- 50:14like he didn't do it and if he did that's his
- 50:16business so patreon supporter josh tell us what
- 50:20media nick is talking about because i don't know
- 50:23I might still have it. This is the sort of thing
- 50:26that I probably never got rid of. I'll look around.
- 50:29Yeah. All right. I forgot about the gerbil thing.
- 50:32no i never forget about the triple thing whether
- 50:35it's true or not doesn't matter yeah whenever
- 50:38somebody says when was the last time you thought
- 50:40about richard gear like immediately i'm thinking
- 50:42about the gerbil things right now whether god
- 50:44i love the early free internet where anything
- 50:48goes oh yeah no fact checking you can say whatever
- 50:51you want i'm sorry for all the people that were
- 50:54hurt by it well that's a good point well it's
- 50:56easier to disprove things at this point but like
- 50:59this is is it Yeah, because there's just more
- 51:03sites that are dedicated to disproving stuff.
- 51:06But like back in the early 2000s, if somebody
- 51:09on the Internet was like, hey, this famous guy
- 51:13shoved a gerbil in his butt. Literally, there
- 51:16aren't sites being like Richard Gere didn't do
- 51:19that. Like the best you could get is like a quote
- 51:23or like if he even deigned to respond to this
- 51:27sort of thing. Unlikely. Yeah. Of like. I didn't
- 51:30put a gerbil in my butt. Like, that's the best
- 51:32you can get. Easily disprovable things. It's
- 51:34just like, OK, well, I'm going to leave Breitbart
- 51:37and I'm going to look at Snopes. I don't know.
- 51:43What was the last thing Richard Gere did? I don't
- 51:46put a gerbil in his butt. Like we just discussed
- 51:48this. Like literally, that's what just happened.
- 51:50And then just gerbil in his ass. Yeah. I think
- 51:54he's in a constant state of ass gerbiling and
- 51:57that's fine. That's his thing. Leave the man
- 52:01alone. Leave Richard alone. What if he has like,
- 52:05you know, the tubes that you would put a gerbil
- 52:07in a cage? What if he has that just like from
- 52:09his ass through to like an outlet port? What
- 52:13if hold on and stay with me on this one? Yeah,
- 52:16I'm right. What if every morning the gerbil tubes
- 52:19into his butt like a daily commute, sits down
- 52:22at a desk and just pumps out like whatever a
- 52:26Richard Gere asked gerbil does for eight hours.
- 52:29And at the end of the day, Richard goes back,
- 52:32just. beep beep beep backs up into the tube and
- 52:36the gerbil comes out like little punch card like
- 52:39clocks out for the day it's a tough business
- 52:41but you know it's a living yeah okay i'm gonna
- 52:45oh that's all folks no i'm gonna pivot i'm gonna
- 52:49there's one last thing i want to do i want to
- 52:52pitch a new nicholas cage film lord i want a
- 52:59sequel to the rock i wanted to feature nicholas
- 53:03cage and sean connery's daughter from the film
- 53:05and i want them to escape from alligator alcatraz
- 53:09okay there's flooding there's gators there's
- 53:14weird swamp men it's perfect yeah it tracks i
- 53:19like it she's probably getting deported because
- 53:22her dad was illegally in the country true yeah
- 53:25uh And her birthright citizenship has been removed.
- 53:30Yeah. Villainous president. This is great. Yeah.
- 53:33I'm in. Yeah. Trump orders a nuke to be dropped
- 53:37on Florida because he's a fucking idiot. Exactly.
- 53:42Well, if you want to support us making this movie,
- 53:44you can support us on Patreon at Cage Match.
- 53:48Yeah, we are. Thank you to our Sparkle Buddies.

- 53:55And to our Caged Dancers, Ira, John, Nathan,
- 53:58and Cameron. Stuart. Bill. Stuart. Bill. Also,
- 54:04another good quote from this movie is, what's
- 54:07in that bugle case? Bugle. Yeah. Bye. Bye. oh
- 54:23we're gonna have to circle back to this when
- 54:24we talk about spider -man now oh yeah for sure
- 54:27yeah we'll have a flashback hey peter remember
- 54:30to put this in later current peter remember to
- 54:33tell future peter to flashback to previous peter
- 54:36yeah okay i'll do my best okay cool nice i mean
- 54:40fuck we gotta keep this thing going for probably
- 54:42at least two more years until the final spider
- 54:44-verse movie comes out since nick cage is yeah
- 54:46i think that's probably about where we'll die
- 54:48yeah The heat death of this podcast and my brain.
- 54:55Neat. Yeah.
