Latest / Blush / 3 Recipes that Feel like Nature's Adderall
Transcript
- 0:00When I was 22 and working in my first real office job, I was
- 0:03obsessed with trying to find a natural alternative to Adderall.
- 0:07I was bored all the time, unproductive, in a bad mood all
- 0:11the time, and honestly, I could never resist the 3:00 PM
- 0:15chocolate chip cookie service at my office even when I was
- 0:19completely full. I really thought that if I had a
- 0:22natural, healthier, non habit forming version of Adderall that
- 0:27I'd be in a better mood. I'd get more done and I'd be
- 0:30more productive and I wouldn't eat all of the snacks that were
- 0:34laying around the office. Literally, there was not one bag
- 0:37of salt and vinegar chips in that entire office that I did
- 0:40not eat. Well, it's many, many years
- 0:43later now. I'm no longer 22, but I finally
- 0:46created what I wish I had had all those years ago.
- 0:49I came up with three recipes that are really going to help me
- 0:52feel energized and productive this year.
- 0:55Be in a better mood, get things done, think quicker, be better,
- 1:00be faster all the things, and be hotter while doing it all.
- 1:05So let's get into it, OK? The very first thing we're going
- 1:13to do is create this. I don't even know if it's a
- 1:16sauce necessarily. It's somewhere in between a
- 1:20sauce and a marinade. By the way, not one of today's
- 1:23recipes even involves a blender. Now, is that because one of my
- 1:27blender is broke and the other one had a maggot infestation?
- 1:31Maybe. Maybe it's because of that, but
- 1:33also I just like, it's fucking the beginning of January, you
- 1:38know what I mean? Like no one needs to be doing
- 1:41hard things. These are really easy recipes.
- 1:44So I just have one shallot. I chopped it up.
- 1:47I'm going to throw it in here. Oh, smells good.
- 1:50Love a shallot. And then let's do four of these
- 1:55birdseye chilies again. We're going to chop it up.
- 1:59Also going to take one dull sleeve and add it in here.
- 2:05So I usually do 4 cloves of garlic for this, but I feel like
- 2:09these are really big cloves so I'm just doing 2.
- 2:13It also doesn't really matter it's all for just infusing
- 2:17flavor. OK, whatever, good enough.
- 2:21I hope we had a great Christmas, New Year, holidays, all the fun
- 2:26things. I'm really excited for this
- 2:29year. I feel like I feel like it's
- 2:31going to be our best year yet. You know what I mean?
- 2:34We have a new format at blush we well, that's it.
- 2:40So therefore I feel like it's going to be the best year yet.
- 2:43Plus, no, that's the only reason.
- 2:45I was going to say the numerology of this year is
- 2:48really good, but what is it? 2 + 6 eight +2, I guess.
- 2:55OK, 10 condenses to 1. I don't know what's the
- 2:58numerology of 1. Is that good?
- 3:01So we're doing the juice of 1 lime for this.
- 3:06I really should have grabbed the citrus press, but like,
- 3:09whatever, got the job done. 2 tablespoons of Tamari.
- 3:15By the way, my aura ring gets discolored all the time.
- 3:19Like this is my third or fourth aura ring.
- 3:22And I'm always like, I don't, I don't know why.
- 3:24And as I'm squeezing this lime, I'm like, well, maybe that's
- 3:28why. And five tablespoons of coconut
- 3:34aminos. So this is kind of inspired by
- 3:39and has the same energy as, you know, when you go to a Thai
- 3:44restaurant. I actually kind of stopped
- 3:47counting. So this seems about right.
- 3:52Who knows, You know, when you go to a Thai restaurant, like kind
- 3:56of any Thai salad, I feel like has the same kind of tangy lime
- 4:03dressing that's super light. Like it feels like truly just
- 4:06liquid. Like it isn't even creamy.
- 4:08Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 4:09Like a green papaya salad would have this dressing.
- 4:12Also, one thing I used to get a lot before I was vegan was lab
- 4:16garb. I think it's like ground or
- 4:19minced chicken tossed with some stuff.
- 4:22It's really, really light. So this, this is similar energy
- 4:25to that. Is it the same thing?
- 4:27No, that has fish sauce in it. It has sugar.
- 4:30We're not really using those, but I did use the coconut aminos
- 4:33as kind of a sugar alternative for that, if you will.
- 4:37And then the dulse is going to dulce plus tamari kind of mimics
- 4:41fish sauce in my opinion. So we're just going to let this
- 4:43sit for a second. I'm going to go turn on the
- 4:46kettle because it's time for our beverage.
- 4:48I'm really excited about this. OK, I'm calling this hot Thai
- 4:54tea, by the way, this episode isn't all Thai themed, just so
- 4:57you know. But I wanted to make something.
- 5:00Well, I wanted to make a drink that would really energize you
- 5:05and give you clear, calm focus. It's also really grounding and
- 5:11it's good for circulation, bloating, all the things.
- 5:14But ultimately it's just really going to give you power.
- 5:16So it's inspired obviously by Thai iced tea, but it's a hot
- 5:20beverage. We're doing one tablespoon of a
- 5:23som black tea, which is just a specific type of black tea.
- 5:27There's actually different types of a som black tea.
- 5:31There's so there's different types of black tea and then
- 5:33there's different types of those types.
- 5:34It's there's a whole world of tea.
- 5:38So that's one tablespoon and then I'll do a few of these
- 5:42black cardamom seeds. I don't buy my cardamom, by the
- 5:47way. How gross does this look like?
- 5:49It looks like little miniature turds.
- 5:52Not to be disgusting, but that's literally what it looks like.
- 5:57But yeah, I do buy whole cardamom pods, I really do.
- 6:02But it's not my favorite because I like to grind my cardamom
- 6:06often. Like I make this spice blend.
- 6:09Actually, you should have seen it a few episodes ago.
- 6:11I make kind of like a dirty tide, not dirty Thai, dirty Chai
- 6:16kind of drink. She's this really marble mouth
- 6:19today. Yeah, I make this dirty Chai
- 6:22kind of drink. So I grind my cardamom with some
- 6:25other spices. And just the process of having
- 6:28to pull the seeds out of pods, really not for me.
- 6:33So I started buying the seeds out of the pods.
- 6:38I also recommend playing around with black cardamom versus green
- 6:42cardamom because they are quite different.
- 6:46All right, so while this steeps, I'm going to tell you about this
- 6:48tea and I actually wrote down some notes.
- 6:52So we have the Assam black tea in there and black cardamom
- 6:57seeds. We're going to add black strap
- 7:00molasses to this as a sweetener because you know, Thai iced tea
- 7:04is like sweet as fuck. The reason we're using this is
- 7:07because it's really one of the richest in iron sources out
- 7:12there. As far as like plant based
- 7:14sources of iron go. It's really, really rich.
- 7:17So that's like the only reason. And iron is so important for
- 7:22energy. Like if you've ever been low in
- 7:25iron, you know how important iron is for energy.
- 7:28Oh my God, when I was iron deficient, I remember I would
- 7:32walk like 3 steps and be like, I need to sit down and take a
- 7:36break. Like it was one of the hardest
- 7:38periods of my life. Quite frankly.
- 7:39We're going to do soy milk for the creaminess and for protein.
- 7:43And soy milk is also naturally rich in choline, which is a
- 7:46really important nutrient because I don't think it's a
- 7:51vitamin or a mineral. I don't really know.
- 7:54We'll just call it nutrient. Nutrient for brain health.
- 7:57Now, if you are plant based like me, talk to your doctor about
- 8:03taking a supplement. I take a choline supplement
- 8:05because I'm yet to find like I just like, yeah, it's, it exists
- 8:11in soy milk. It exists in sunflower lecithin,
- 8:15which I use often, but I find it hard to get meaningful amounts
- 8:20of choline through plants. Whereas choline is very rich in
- 8:24chicken eggs. So if you're not vegan, like
- 8:26definitely check that out. I do take a choline supplement.
- 8:30I'll link the one that I take and then we're going to add a
- 8:34creatine to this. Now, if you've been following me
- 8:38or the show for a while, you obviously know about my creatine
- 8:41journey. I've had depression my entire
- 8:43adult life, like literally my entire adult life.
- 8:46And it was progressively year by year, getting worse and worse
- 8:49and worse and worse. And then the beginning of last
- 8:52year, I remember January 10th of 2025 waking up and being like,
- 8:57oh, I feel kind of good today. And then the next day I was
- 9:00like, oh, you feel kind of good today.
- 9:02And then every day that followed I felt the same way.
- 9:04And I was like, what the fuck is going on?
- 9:06And I realized my creatine had kicked in.
- 9:09I'd started taking creatine per my trainer suggestion, and only
- 9:13when the creatine actually fully saturated the muscle 'cause it
- 9:17takes a while to really saturate, did I realize how
- 9:20insanely energy depleted I had been like my entire life.
- 9:25And that really was one of the big contributing factors to my
- 9:29depression. I'm not saying it's like the
- 9:30only thing, but it was a huge, huge, huge contributing factor.
- 9:34Now I am looking into increasing my creatine from 5 grams to 10
- 9:40grams. So I took my 5g this morning.
- 9:42I did 10 grams yesterday, but that was honestly only because I
- 9:45slept 4 hours because Sam was being an absolute terrorist.
- 9:49Yeah, I did the 10 grams yesterday and I figured I took 5
- 9:52this morning. I'll take another 5 now with
- 9:54this drink and then I'll just keep going and I'll let you know
- 9:59if I really notice a difference or not, OK?
- 10:01I think it's been long enough for steeping this.
- 10:03Unfortunately some of the shit got through the bottom which
- 10:09really is not ideal for this, so I don't know what should I do,
- 10:17Do you think? You know what?
- 10:19I'm going to strain it, rinse out this cup and then pour it
- 10:23back in this cup. I don't know.
- 10:25Is that stupid? Yeah, because I definitely don't
- 10:28want the tea bits in the bottom if I'm going to mix in the
- 10:31creatine. I threw away some old flowers
- 10:37earlier. What is it with how disgusting
- 10:41old flowers smell like? What is that about?
- 10:45Anyway, I do not usually take this brand of creatine.
- 10:49I just bought it. The store only have these
- 10:51sachets but I also ordered a tub of it.
- 10:54It's supposed to be cleaner and better.
- 10:56It's by like German standards which are higher whatever.
- 11:00Like I honestly I don't know if it's better it's been 2 days for
- 11:04me but I I will keep you apprised as to whether it's
- 11:09actually better or not. Let's give that a little whirl
- 11:16so it mixes in. I always do my creatine in hot
- 11:20water by the way, not necessarily boiling but hot from
- 11:27all the Reese or warm. I should say from all the
- 11:30research I've done, it doesn't really seem to affect anything.
- 11:33Like it doesn't make it less effective or anything like that,
- 11:37and it just makes it dissolve better.
- 11:39So you want to do like 2 tablespoons or so of this.
- 11:43I'm just going to kind of eyeball it.
- 11:47That seems about right. Look how black that is.
- 11:56OK, let's go get our soy milk and get that in there, huh?
- 12:00Now if this tastes good and has even a remote resemblance to
- 12:04Thai iced tea, I will be making this on repeat and I'll let you
- 12:08know if it's shit so you don't make it.
- 12:09OK, I'm going to start doing this.
- 12:12And like so I can really whisk in the soy milk as it goes in.
- 12:32We I love this a little bit sweeter, which honestly, I think
- 12:39I barely even got a teaspoon in there.
- 12:43I love this electric whisk and this is usually not an issue,
- 12:47but if you it has three levels available and if you want to use
- 12:51level 1, you have to cycle through them to get it off.
- 12:54So basically if your cup's pretty full and you can only do
- 12:57level 1, then you have to go to three to turn it off and
- 13:00sometimes it causes spillage. I don't think it's a huge deal,
- 13:03but it is something to note. OK, let's see how this is.
- 13:11Yeah, OK. I like that a lot.
- 13:16Yum. You know, I originally was
- 13:19thinking about making a gingerbread latte, in part
- 13:23because I knew I wanted to use this because the iron content,
- 13:27but molasses is used in gingerbread cookies.
- 13:31So I was like, oh, that would be perfect.
- 13:33But honestly I was scared that it wouldn't be the vibe because
- 13:38Christmas is over. Like do people still care about
- 13:41gingerbread once Christmas is over?
- 13:43Or like is it gingerbread's over a party after Christmas?
- 13:46I really don't know. I also, by the way, really
- 13:50wanted to do a hot beverage, not just because it's winter, but
- 13:54there was a study that came out a few months ago, I think it
- 13:57came out in like October of 2025.
- 14:00It was in the British Journal of Nutrition that showed that
- 14:05people who drink hot beverages in the winter have lower rates
- 14:11of depression, sleep better, and have better digestion anyway.
- 14:16Or more specifically, it's not that they had better digestion.
- 14:19I think they had fewer incidents of digestive problems or
- 14:23something like that. Whatever.
- 14:24I just summarized to better digestion.
- 14:29Also, I really wanted to do something with tea versus
- 14:33coffee. Not that I don't love coffee,
- 14:34you know, I'm a coffee drinker now.
- 14:36I'm still looking for an espresso machine, by the way.
- 14:40A few people, including my beautiful, amazing, talented
- 14:44editor have recommended those Italian stove top espresso maker
- 14:49things to me and I looked into it and it seems like a great
- 14:52option. The only thing is that's not
- 14:55technically espresso. I mean it is like a very
- 14:58concentrated coffee that could work as espresso, but apparently
- 15:03technically an espresso requires 9 bars of pressure to make.
- 15:08What that means I will never know.
- 15:10Like is bar a unit of measurement that I'm not aware
- 15:13of? I'm sure it is.
- 15:14Like, I'm not a scientist anyway so I really I don't know.
- 15:17And I really like the aesthetic of a proper espresso maker.
- 15:21But I do want it to be compact and I want it to be chic and I
- 15:24want it to be effective. So again, still soliciting
- 15:28wrecks on that. Please drop them in the
- 15:29comments. OK?
- 15:31I think it's time for us to move on.
- 15:32OK, let's do it. Oh, I never finished saying what
- 15:39I was saying about the tea. I got so sidetracked by
- 15:42espresso. So I wanted to use tea because
- 15:44tea has both caffeine and Alpheanine, and the balance of
- 15:48the two gives you energy, but in a calmer, less jittery kind of
- 15:52way. OK, so let's move on to our
- 15:55salad. Now I call this speed salad and
- 16:02I'm taking my rings off because I'm going to get in there with
- 16:04my hands. So the reason I call it speed
- 16:07salad is kind of it has a triple meaning, if you will.
- 16:10So meaning number one is that it's quite quick to prepare, in
- 16:14part because we're not blending anything.
- 16:16It's really easy and really simple.
- 16:18But the other two meanings are that it like, gives you power,
- 16:23like speed, you know, like energizes you and also it's
- 16:26yummy and addictive, like speed. I say someone who's never done
- 16:32speed. So we're just going to take our
- 16:33washed curly kale and tear it off by the handful.
- 16:38Now, the more natural your kale is, the more I emphatically
- 16:42recommend that you wash it carefully because caterpillars
- 16:46love to hang out inside of kale leaves.
- 16:48I think it's something with the curliness.
- 16:50They can like really Nestle in there.
- 16:52And when I buy like really, really fresh kale, I'm really
- 16:56sad Kettle. Like what is wrong with me when
- 16:58I buy really, really fresh kale from the farmers market?
- 17:02I've seen caterpillars and there are quite a few times.
- 17:04One time I had friends over for dinner and this was like, I kind
- 17:09of just moved to New York, just started to make friends, was
- 17:13relatively new to this lifestyle.
- 17:16I mean, there were elements of it, I would say my whole life,
- 17:18but like really full on this kind of lifestyle.
- 17:21And I just started buying everything from the farmers
- 17:25market all the time and prepared this like beautiful meal.
- 17:29I had friends over and I was telling them how there was or
- 17:33no, no, I think I was like doing the salad last.
- 17:36And I was like, Oh my God, there's a Caterpillar in there.
- 17:38And one of these bitches would come over was like, and then
- 17:46fucking like, I love when I got angry.
- 17:51Like I think I'm so much more funny when I'm angry.
- 17:55I used to hate like, and I don't love my own anger.
- 17:58Like it's something I'm really working on.
- 18:00But I think it's important to kind of accept ourselves while
- 18:03working on it, right? Like it's never OK to be rude or
- 18:06mean to people. But like also you don't have to
- 18:08hate yourself because you have a negative trait anyway.
- 18:11So this fucking kind after she was like, so it was like high
- 18:18school mean girl, like ale and that's gross.
- 18:21You know, that kind of vibe. Then by the way, do we love my
- 18:24nails? These two are kind of fucked
- 18:27because they broke. But like we did a nice little
- 18:30like baby almond and then when they grow out a tiny bit more,
- 18:33I'll go like more Foley almond. OK, anyway, so then a few months
- 18:38later she like gets more and more crunchy and plant based and
- 18:42then she starts talking about how like, oh like when your food
- 18:45is natural and doesn't have pesticides like blah blah.
- 18:47It's like, I'm waiting on my apology you dumb fucking cunt.
- 18:54I think all my neighbors just heard that.
- 18:57Yeah. Anyway, so back to the kale
- 19:00actually. So remember how I said I was
- 19:02looking for alternatives to Adderall?
- 19:05I ended up just getting an Adderall prescription after
- 19:07that. I don't think I Well, OK, here's
- 19:11the thing. I actually now really do think I
- 19:13have ADHD. Like I really do.
- 19:14I have kind of all the symptoms of it, especially where I
- 19:18really, really see it for myself is in kind of like social
- 19:23dynamics, like every TikTok or meme or Instagram thing I see
- 19:28that's like, yeah, like, you know, being friends with someone
- 19:32on the ADHD spectrum or whatever.
- 19:34I really chew so much, like every little thing I've ever
- 19:38seen. So yeah, now I really do think I
- 19:40have it. But for many years I took
- 19:42Adderall and I really don't think I needed it.
- 19:45But I, like, just wanted to be thinner.
- 19:49So. And like I said, I wanted, like,
- 19:51I wanted to be thinner. I wanted to stop.
- 19:53Like, I was just like snacking constantly in the office, in
- 19:56part because I was so unhappy and I was just so bored and I
- 19:59wanted to be able to get things done.
- 20:00Quicker like there were a lot of reasons I really thought
- 20:03Adderall was like the limitless drug.
- 20:06The first time I took Adderall story within a story it was
- 20:10finals of freshman year of Wait I have another fun.
- 20:13Okay I have like 3 good Adderall stories.
- 20:16So the first time I took it was spring finals of freshman year.
- 20:21I like. Finals happened over the course
- 20:25of two weeks. Somehow all of my finals were
- 20:28within the first four days of the finals period.
- 20:32So I had like very little time to study and I think I had 4
- 20:37finals in the first four days and then I had a paper for my
- 20:42writing class due on the 5th day.
- 20:46And so I studied for my 4 finals.
- 20:48I didn't even start my paper until I finished the fourth
- 20:51final. And then I got Adderall from a
- 20:54friend and he gave me two 5 milligram pills.
- 20:57He was like take the first, take one first, and then the second
- 21:01one second. So he's like wait like hours and
- 21:04then take the second one. I stayed up all night, wrote the
- 21:09paper like rewrote it, cleaned like kept like re like editing
- 21:14and changing things. Turned it in.
- 21:17Like went and went to a spin class.
- 21:20It was my first ever spin class. Actually a funny story.
- 21:23A week later I took a spin class.
- 21:25I was like wait, why is this like 20,000 times harder?
- 21:27And I was like oh that's right. Because I'm not on Adderall.
- 21:30I didn't eat for like 3 days. Like it took so long for me to
- 21:33be able to eat again. And you really want to be doing
- 21:35this bite size pieces. See what I mean?
- 21:39ADHD, like the ability to jump in and out of different
- 21:43conversations. That was the first time I took
- 21:45Adderall. And that really was what
- 21:47cemented in my head that I think Adderall is the limitless drug.
- 21:50Like, we would all be better versions of ourselves.
- 21:52Now with someone who was on Adderall for many, many years, I
- 21:56no longer think that. Like, yeah, in the very
- 21:58beginning, it's all fun and games and it feels good.
- 22:02But then, like, it just started to make me so irritable.
- 22:05It really fucked my relationship with food, which wasn't great to
- 22:08begin with. And yeah, I would get like
- 22:11really angry and really irritable and really, really
- 22:14anxious. Like I'm so happy I don't take
- 22:17it anymore, even though like, yeah, it does help you focus and
- 22:20stuff. I'm so happy you don't take it
- 22:21anymore. But anyway, so I've made an
- 22:23appointment with the doctor and it like I prepared for this.
- 22:29Like it was the role of a lifetime.
- 22:31I did so much research into the symptoms of ADHD.
- 22:34And back then, like, people didn't talk about this stuff
- 22:37that much, you know? But yeah, I did so much
- 22:39research. And from the moment I walked
- 22:42into that doctor's office, like before I even met with a doctor,
- 22:45like I'm talking when I checked in, when I sat in the waiting
- 22:48room, etcetera, I started exhibiting signs of ADHD.
- 22:52Like when I was in that waiting room, I, I opened and closed
- 22:56every single magazine in the waiting room because I was like,
- 23:01I just want to seem really fidgety and really this and
- 23:04really that. Anyway, like I said, I really
- 23:06don't recommend it. If I could do things over again,
- 23:08I definitely would have never taken Adderall.
- 23:10Like I know they say like, yeah, if you actually have ADHD, like
- 23:15it's useful and it does this and it does that.
- 23:17Like, like I've heard people say, like if you actually have
- 23:19ADHD, it calms you down. I don't know, that was never my
- 23:23experience. But then again, who knows?
- 23:25Like maybe I don't have it, you know, whatever, I don't know.
- 23:27Anyway, it doesn't fucking matter.
- 23:29My last story, this is actually my favorite 1.
- 23:32So when I was in law school, I was in a criminal law class.
- 23:37I think it may have been on drugs, like drugs in the law or
- 23:41something. You know, I don't remember.
- 23:43I just remember we talked about drugs a lot.
- 23:46That's why I wonder if it was about drugs.
- 23:48I really don't remember though. What?
- 23:50Yeah. What class was it?
- 23:52Wait, if anyone from my law school and there's one person
- 23:55I'm thinking of specifically who took the class with me, if
- 23:58you're watching, can you remind me what the fuck that class was?
- 24:00I really don't remember. The professor brought in the
- 24:07like head of campus police for our entire college.
- 24:11Like the humanely works with undergrad and this guy was like
- 24:14so such an asshole and such, so many rude and condescending
- 24:18things. At some point he said that if
- 24:21there wasn't campus security, like regulating the dorms, then
- 24:28the dorms would turn into brothels.
- 24:30I was like, what? Like I would, I couldn't even
- 24:34hide my disdain for this man. I was like, I'm so sorry.
- 24:37Could you repeat that, Sir? And he did.
- 24:39And I was like, are you saying that all the girls on this
- 24:45campus would turn into sex workers if it weren't for you?
- 24:50Like, are you mentally well? Like, what is wrong?
- 24:54Do you even understand what you're saying?
- 24:56Like I literally could. Like, I couldn't even contain
- 24:58myself. Like, the professor was giving
- 25:00me eyes. Like, please stop.
- 25:02Like, he's our guest. Please stop.
- 25:04But I was like, no, what he's saying is insane.
- 25:07Like, I'm not going to allow this anyway.
- 25:09OK, Let me go grab that marinate that we made before.
- 25:13Actually actually let me grab some more stuff for the salad.
- 25:17It's just this, this is the some more stuff.
- 25:20It's just some pre marinated seaweed.
- 25:23So what I'm going to do is I'm going to pour some of this
- 25:26marinade in there. I'm using a strainer 'cause I
- 25:28don't need all of the things like those were just for
- 25:32infusing the flavor in. And now This is why I took off
- 25:37my rings. I'm going to get in with my
- 25:39hands and massage. OK, So he was giving us this
- 25:44campus security asshole was giving us a bunch of scenarios
- 25:48and then having us weigh in on whether like, that was a problem
- 25:51or not. And one of them involved, like,
- 25:54kids taking Adderall to study. And the first person who
- 25:59responded raised his hand and he's like, yeah, no, like, blah,
- 26:02blah. Obviously, you shouldn't take
- 26:03medication that's not prescribed to you.
- 26:05But also, like, they are taking Adderall, like, the way that
- 26:09it's meant to be taken, like, for the actual purposes, like,
- 26:12to study rather than, like, using it to party and the game.
- 26:16The security guy was like, no, Adderall's purpose isn't to
- 26:20study. Adderall is medication to treat
- 26:25ADHD. And when I tell you literally
- 26:28the next person was like, yeah. And anyway, so since they're
- 26:31using the Adderall, like in the way that it's meant to be used,
- 26:34and he was like, that's not how it's meant to be used.
- 26:37It's medication for ADHD. When I tell you literally 20
- 26:40different people throughout the room were like, yeah, and
- 26:42they're just using the Adderall, like, to study, you know, that's
- 26:46like what it's there for. And he's like Adderall is not an
- 26:49over the counter study aid it is medication to treat ADHD.
- 26:54Like he was like literally turning blue in the face.
- 26:56I was like karma. Anyway, OK, so we massage the
- 27:02kale a little with the sauce. I'm sure you've seen people do
- 27:04this on social media, so I'm not going to like go on a whole
- 27:08thing about why we do this. But in case you're not familiar,
- 27:12it helps breakdown some of the tougher fibers to just make it a
- 27:16little bit more digestible. So now I'm just chopping up some
- 27:20scallions. We're going to add those in too.
- 27:25Actually, before we do that, I'm going to add a little bit of
- 27:28toasted sesame oil and I'm going to massage again and then I'm
- 27:31going to really wash my hands. Now you can eyeball this.
- 27:35It obviously depends on how much kale you're using too, but I
- 27:39love, love, love the flavor of a toasted sesame oil.
- 27:44OK, yes, All right, let me wash my hands and come right back.
- 27:50Oh, so the vase that I threw away the old flowers from it
- 27:57smells vile. Let's get our rings back on
- 28:02'cause we're not massaging anymore.
- 28:05So the kale is a really good source of fiber, folate,
- 28:09minerals, which like really helps you have more steady
- 28:13energy. And the scallions are primarily
- 28:17for flavor, although I mean, all veggies are good for you and
- 28:20great for the gut microbiome too.
- 28:24I love the combination of scallions and tamari.
- 28:28Wait, I have to tell this story. I really hope Ozzy doesn't watch
- 28:31this. So we have all these noodles,
- 28:34packaged noodles cause I've gotten them NPR a lot.
- 28:37And the other day, I don't know if he was just in a weird mood
- 28:40or something, but he was grabbing one of the packages and
- 28:43they have different flavors. They're like high end kind of
- 28:46instant noodles from two really well known brands.
- 28:49And he goes, the flavor was sweet and spicy and he goes,
- 28:53what does that mean? And I go sweet or spite, like,
- 28:57what do you mean? Which which part of that are you
- 28:59not familiar with? And then you grabbed another one
- 29:02and it said scallions and soy. And he goes, what does that
- 29:05mean? And I was like, again, scallions
- 29:07or sorry? Like what?
- 29:08Like what is what's the disconnect?
- 29:10What's the problem? Like, how can I help you here?
- 29:12Are you telling me you don't know what scallions and soy
- 29:14means? Because I think you do.
- 29:16Anyway, so that's just a funny little random story about Ozzy.
- 29:20OK, so let me chop up the seaweeds.
- 29:23Now, seaweed is a really good source of iodine and also good
- 29:29source of tyrosine, which is an amino acid that's a precursor
- 29:33for dopamine, but I think also for norepinephrine.
- 29:40I don't know, some of those like yummy, good neurotransmitters
- 29:46that help you feel happier and just like be in a better fucking
- 29:50mood, you know? You know, you know, you know.
- 29:53I'm also going to add in some avocado.
- 29:55Yes, I'm so fucking excited to eat this.
- 30:00Also, both of those nutrients, both iodine and tyrosine, are
- 30:05really, really important for thyroid health too.
- 30:08And just like great for steady energy.
- 30:11By the way, when I played it, I'm then going to drizzle this
- 30:14tahini on it. It's my favorite tahini and I
- 30:17love that it comes in the squeeze bottle and makes it so
- 30:19great for drizzling. I just have it upside down
- 30:21because it's almost empty. I have one of these avocados, by
- 30:27the way. I think it's a Florida avocado.
- 30:29I hope this this hasn't gone off a little bit.
- 30:34Gross. OK, let let me I have another
- 30:36one. Let me grab another one.
- 30:38OK. Hopefully this avocado will be
- 30:40better. If not, we'll just cut around
- 30:43the bad parts. And the other one.
- 30:44But yeah, I think it's a Florida avocado or a no, it's not, but
- 30:50whatever. Or also called a tropical
- 30:53avocado. It's most people don't like it
- 30:56as much as a Hass avocado. It's definitely not as creamy
- 31:00and it's a little more watery, but I sometimes like it.
- 31:03I don't know, whatever. What can I say?
- 31:06Yeah, it's really not the best avocado.
- 31:08But honestly, like, who cares? So let's toss this up and then
- 31:16let's plate it. OK, so I'm going to put this in
- 31:20this pretty blue bowl. Just going to throw it in.
- 31:27Yeah. Oh yeah, she's looking good.
- 31:33So I'm going to add a little more scallion on top just to
- 31:37make it look pretty. I'm also going to microplane
- 31:42some ginger on top. Again, I think the flavors are
- 31:46going to work quite nicely in here.
- 31:49But the other reason OK, this is this is really not working.
- 31:55The other reason I wanted to do OK the ginger is because it's
- 32:02great for gut motility, it's great for bloating, and it's
- 32:05great for circulation, which I guess can help you feel a little
- 32:09more energized too. OK, doing a real dog shit job
- 32:14with this ginger, but that's fine.
- 32:16And then let's just do our little tahini drizzle and I'm
- 32:23going to sprinkle on some dried miso flakes.
- 32:28This is really just for aesthetics.
- 32:32Seriously though, how good does that look?
- 32:39Oh my God, no, I'm obsessed. All right, let's give it a nice
- 32:47Little Mix and let's eat. Yeah.
- 33:10OK, don't mind me chewing for 45 minutes, but guess what?
- 33:13Chewing is really important for digestion.
- 33:16That is so fucking good. That is so fucking good I can't
- 33:21even put it into words. And it's so simple.
- 33:23You saw how simple that was. Now I was originally planning on
- 33:26adding edamame to this, but I just kind of wasn't in the mood,
- 33:31but I think that would be really really good.
- 33:32You could also do butter beans, which I think would be different
- 33:35but good. Another thing that I think would
- 33:38be really lovely is sprinkling sesame seeds.
- 33:40On to this. Now, fun fact about me, I love
- 33:44sesame flavor. I love all things sesame.
- 33:48I don't like whole sesame seeds. I like sesame oil.
- 33:52I like tahini, I like sesame paste.
- 33:54I like making sauces with sesame.
- 33:56I just don't like whole sesame seeds.
- 33:58Like the texture. It's it's just not for me.
- 34:00So that's why I didn't do it. But I think it would be really,
- 34:05really lovely. All right, I'm going to have one
- 34:07more bite right now and then I'm going to clean up a little bit
- 34:11and we're going to do our last dish of the day, which is so
- 34:14sad. I'm having so much fun.
- 34:15Also, this fucking ring with chopsticks.
- 34:29OK, it's time for our last dish. I'm so fucking excited for this
- 34:32one and I've never made this before, but I think it's going
- 34:35to be good. So first I'm just going to chop
- 34:38some cherry tomatoes and some garlic and then we'll get to
- 34:45cook in. Also, I literally cannot chop
- 34:49tomatoes without like snacking on half of them, so the fact
- 34:53that I haven't had a single one is frankly a miracle.
- 35:01One thing I forgot to mention though, both with the tomatoes
- 35:03and the lime and the salad really helps iron absorb better.
- 35:08So that's a nice little feature of the vitamin C and it
- 35:11specifically helps iron absorb better.
- 35:13Sorry she is tired because her dog has been acting like a
- 35:19little psychopath. So also she has another UTI like
- 35:25of course. Luckily, this time it's not a
- 35:29strain that has to be treated with that antibiotic that she
- 35:32really doesn't do well with, but it is a specialized antibiotic
- 35:37and a compounding pharmacy has to make it.
- 35:40And the last time she had to have an antibiotic from a
- 35:42compounding pharmacy, it cost $2000.
- 35:45So that's fun. Don't really know what to expect
- 35:50with this, but quite frankly, I will take anything over that
- 35:55experience. I know.
- 35:59I am so hungry and so fucking excited to eat this shit.
- 36:05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. OK.
- 36:11All right, let's move on. OK.
- 36:15I've been dreaming and fantasizing of a dish like this.
- 36:19I don't know how it's going to turn out, but I hope it's going
- 36:22to be good. So we're going to do a creamy,
- 36:30creamy, tomatoey udon. So it's kind of fusiony.
- 36:36I'm just putting a little bit of water in here and I have these
- 36:40udon packets that are like, you know, the way Asian grocers sell
- 36:48udon that's shelf stable, but it's pretty soft.
- 36:51That's why we're not doing like a full boil for this.
- 36:57That feels really soft and nice. Yeah, I'm just kind of picking
- 37:02it apart with my hands a little. I'm doing 2.
- 37:06I might even do a third packet because that just doesn't look
- 37:10like that much food. Ozzy's not in town, which I feel
- 37:15bad because I feel like he would really, really love this.
- 37:19But I want to have leftovers, so.
- 37:23Or maybe I'll just eat it all. I don't know if we'll see
- 37:26anything's possible at this point.
- 37:28I'm going to toss in my tomatoes and my garlic, but I think I'm
- 37:34going to go get that third packet, too.
- 37:36All right, let's get this third packet in.
- 37:47Yeah. I just want everything to soften
- 37:49up here. I feel like that's not nearly
- 37:54enough tomatoes. Should I add more?
- 38:00Yeah, maybe I'll like, chop up some more and add them in.
- 38:05Now, I didn't do this, but I kind of think that saffron could
- 38:10taste good in this, but you'd have to bloom it separately and
- 38:13then let's get in. Maybe I should have started this
- 38:17sooner in the meal, quite frankly.
- 38:22Yeah, because it feels like it's going to take a while for these
- 38:24tomatoes to burst. Or maybe I should have put the
- 38:28tomatoes in first, but I don't know.
- 38:30We'll see. Anyway, do we have New Year's
- 38:35resolutions? Like, did you make New Year's
- 38:36resolutions or goals or anything?
- 38:38Honestly, can I be really real about mine?
- 38:42I like every year I set all these like goals or resolutions
- 38:46or intentions or whatever the fuck you want to call them.
- 38:49Like the way I feel like Wellness has grifted us.
- 38:52And one of the biggest Wellness grifts that I see is this like
- 38:58emphasis on changing the words that we use for things.
- 39:02And I'm not saying that words don't matter because like they
- 39:05do, but I think they matter a lot less than what some Wellness
- 39:11influencers say. Like, I don't think it matters
- 39:14if you call it an intention or a resolution or a goal.
- 39:19Like you just use whatever fucking word you have.
- 39:21Like as a society, the amount of attention that we pay to like
- 39:26what word we're using instead of actually trying to make movement
- 39:30towards the goal or what like the actual intention in is, is
- 39:34crazy to me. Like the amount that I see
- 39:37people talking about, like, oh, don't call it this, call it
- 39:40this. So it's like, like, let's find a
- 39:41solution instead of focusing so much on what word we're using
- 39:46for it. All right, I'm going to need you
- 39:49tomatoes to burst a little bit faster, please.
- 39:53We gotten somewhere. We are getting somewhere.
- 39:59That food on looks so fucking good.
- 40:00I'm going to add that last bit of water to this.
- 40:06Yeah. Oh, the garlic is starting to
- 40:08get fragrant. Come on you little shitheads.
- 40:14Also, I don't know, I'm PMSA, not in a great mood and
- 40:20everyone's annoying me. I just saw something on social
- 40:23media. Like, I'm really sick of the
- 40:28irony of this, of people who were who, like, think they're
- 40:32informed on a subject but really aren't acting like an authority
- 40:36on it. And I'm very much guilty of this
- 40:39myself. But I feel like I've really
- 40:41realized that and learned my lesson.
- 40:43Not that, like, anyone called me out or did anything.
- 40:46And I feel like I really don't do that anymore.
- 40:49So I'd like everyone else to start not doing that, too.
- 40:54Like, I saw this influencer who, like, thinks she's some kind of
- 40:58nutrition expert. Just go, yeah, how like
- 41:02vegetable oils can be so like inflammatory, like, blah, blah.
- 41:07Guys. Seed oils have been really well
- 41:09researched. Like there are so many studies
- 41:12on seed oils that show them to, like, really not be very
- 41:15harmful. Nevertheless, she was like, even
- 41:17avocado oil is so processed. Like you should opt for coconut
- 41:21oil instead. Coconut oil, which by the way, I
- 41:24think is totally fine in moderation, is one of the
- 41:27highest saturated fat things out there, which, like, saturated
- 41:31fat is legit bad for you. Like, it really, really is for
- 41:36her to say that. I think he's so nutty.
- 41:39Like, I honestly don't even know what to say.
- 41:42Yeah, I'm just like really fucking annoyed of all this
- 41:45shit. I saw something else the other
- 41:48day from this influencer was like never ever ever do a fasted
- 41:54workout. Which like I'm not saying you
- 41:56should do a fasted workout. I'm just like like what?
- 41:59What is with the fear mongering for everything all the time?
- 42:07I'm going to stop like PMS ranting.
- 42:10OK, this is starting to look more like I wanted to.
- 42:13I just want the tomatoes to release more juices into this.
- 42:19I mean, I guess I could grab a little bit of tomato paste to
- 42:23make it more tomato. Y should I do that?
- 42:27I don't know. Yeah, let's just do that.
- 42:31I just got this tomato paste. I like a little tube situation
- 42:35because then you can just put the lid back on because anytime
- 42:39something is in a can, I feel this need to like commit to
- 42:41using the whole can. Just gonna do a tiny little
- 42:45squirt. Yeah, this is looking so much
- 42:57better. Although again, a little more
- 43:00red would be nice. When I was a little kid, liked
- 43:04tomato paste so much that I used to just grab it from the fridge
- 43:10because we always have like open tomato paste.
- 43:13It's such a big ingredient in Persian cooking.
- 43:15But I would just grab it from the fridge and like, smear a
- 43:18little bit onto bread and eat it.
- 43:21And I'd have to hide to do this because my parents would get mad
- 43:24at me because they're like, it's going to hurt your tummy.
- 43:26Like you have to heat up tomato paste before you eat it.
- 43:31I don't know why they wouldn't just like, heat it up for me
- 43:33instead of that whole song and dance.
- 43:35OK, this is looking more like what I wanted it to look like.
- 43:39I'm going to turn off the heat. This is obviously continuing to
- 43:45cook. Although I think my udon is
- 43:47like, way overcooked. OK, so I'm going to take a
- 43:51little bit of soy milk. We're going to use this to make
- 43:56it creamy, but it's also going to add some protein.
- 43:59So like fun, fun, fun, fun. We're going to add a little bit
- 44:02of nutritional yeast. Again, creamy flavor, lots of B
- 44:08vitamins, like one of the best sources of B vitamins truly just
- 44:14by volume, if you will. And then I'm going to do like
- 44:19one tablespoon of white miso. I'm going to mix this up a
- 44:23little and then I'm going to toss it with the udon.
- 44:27OK, I really have to be careful with this picture thing because
- 44:32I shattered one of these ones so don't want to do that again.
- 44:45It's not very well mixed, but I'm honestly, oh, you know what,
- 44:47I could use this because that won't shatter this, but I'll
- 44:53just kind of mix it as I do this.
- 44:59OK, I really don't know about this.
- 45:00Honestly. It's really not how I envisioned
- 45:04it at all. But I think I should have, I
- 45:08should have put the tomatoes in first and let them cook a little
- 45:13and then added the udon because like it didn't really need
- 45:15proper cooking. But whatever.
- 45:17Lesson learned. Make it that way at home, kids.
- 45:20But it does look good and it does smell good.
- 45:23I want to taste just like a tiny bit.
- 45:42Yes, that's very good. I love how garlicky it is, like
- 45:49the burst of tomato. OK, let's plate her.
- 45:53Yeah. So I'm just going to serve it in
- 45:57this pretty blue bowl again, very blush blue.
- 46:04I also love how I just like, made-up that colour.
- 46:07Blush blue. It's not a thing.
- 46:12Funny thing, blush should be pink, but I'm like, Nah, blush
- 46:15blue. It's our own colour now.
- 46:19Lookout Pantone. OK, I want some of these
- 46:24tomatoes sitting on top. I'm going to do some black
- 46:30pepper on this. Maybe even a little bit of
- 46:34crystallized show you. And some fresh basil too.
- 46:51Oh, isn't she beautiful? My God, I love her.
- 46:59Wait, OK, I have to take a photo.
- 47:00Fuck. Yeah.
- 47:13OK, I think it's time for a taste test.
- 47:19Maybe I should get a fork for this?
- 47:33That really is the pasta of my dreams.
- 47:36Like it's literally perfect. This Crystallized show you was
- 47:43doing a lot for this by the way. More so than the black pepper in
- 47:46my opinion. OK, anyway, I think that's a
- 47:49wrap. I think I need to sit and
- 47:54properly eat now. And I feel like I've gabbed for
- 47:56long enough. Oh, wait, the one thing I was
- 47:58going to say that I didn't finish.
- 47:59Yeah. I feel like every year when I
- 48:01make resolutions or goals or intentions or whatever the fuck
- 48:05we're calling them now, I come up with all these things.
- 48:09But ultimately, I think every year, truly, what I'm after is
- 48:13just like feeling hotter and being happier.
- 48:16And everything that I put on my list is just in service of that.
- 48:20So this year I was like, fuck it, I just want to be hotter and
- 48:23happier. That's my focus for this year.
- 48:25I don't care how, you know, not like I don't care how, but I
- 48:28mean, I'm not going to come up with these things like I'm going
- 48:30to start running or I'm going to start doing this.
- 48:32It's like the reason I want to do those things is to feel
- 48:36hotter and be happier. So this year I'm just going to
- 48:39focus on that and see how I got there, you know what I mean?
- 48:43Anyway, love you so much. Thanks for being here.
- 48:46We'll chat next week. Bye.
- 48:58I don't. I don't know what the fuck is
- 48:59going on anymore.
