Latest / Health with Hashimoto’s - Thyroid or Immune Education for Autoimmune Thyroid Disease / What to do first once you have sorted your root causes ⎸ Ep 215
Transcript
- 0:00The summer series started out as root causes, and then I realized that I've
- 0:05done 200 episodes and never really
- 0:08explained the two different sides of Hashimoto's. I've mentioned them.
- 0:12I've done a couple episodes on what your doctor might be missing,
- 0:15but I have never really detailed the thyroid or immune buckets.
- 0:21Like, how can you sort everything? So that's why I pivoted mid-summer and now
- 0:25all of August has been sorting.
- 0:28We sorted through symptoms, we sorted through root causes, sorted through labs,
- 0:32and today is the final episode of the summer.
- 0:36And today we're talking about once you have a sorted pile, once you have those two buckets, what next?
- 0:42Because I'm not wanting, I don't want to give you like 12 different things to do tomorrow.
- 0:46We always want to make things simple, simple and sustainable.
- 0:49So what's next after you sort into the two buckets?
- 0:53Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition. That means your immune system is attacking
- 0:56your thyroid. But knowing that is only the beginning.
- 1:00This summer series is built in three phases. Phase one was understanding what's
- 1:04happening in your body. Phase two is learning how to think about what you're learning.
- 1:08And phase three is building your own personal discernment framework with support.
- 1:13So most women with Hashimoto's have a lot of information.
- 1:17What they're missing is a filter, a way to evaluate what applies to them specifically.
- 1:23That is what this series is now designed to give you.
- 1:26If you want to start with a foundation, check with the show notes for Hashimoto's
- 1:30Decoded, new name, Hashimoto's Decoded, thyroid or immune.
- 1:34In less than one hour, I will walk you through the most common root causes and
- 1:37help you identify where to focus.
- 1:39My name is Esther Yunkin. I'm a registered nurse, holistic health educator,
- 1:42and the host of this podcast, Health with Hashimoto's.
- 1:46I believe your health is a blend of five interconnected areas,
- 1:50body, mind, spirit, diet, and environment. Let's work through this together.
- 1:55I have this problem. It is a problem of loving to plan and dream,
- 1:59to sort and to learn. I love to do all of the head things, but not necessarily,
- 2:06the doing part. How about you?
- 2:08I once heard somebody talk about learning like two feet.
- 2:14If you only learn, you're only going to be stepping forward with like your right foot.
- 2:19And if you're only stepping forward with your right foot, you're going to go
- 2:21in circles. You have to go right foot, left foot, right foot,
- 2:24left foot. Your left foot is the doing.
- 2:27And so you have to learn and then do, learn and then do.
- 2:31Well, when you're sorting, sometimes it feels so good. You're like,
- 2:37I am making progress. I am learning about my own health. I am learning about Hashimoto's.
- 2:44I'm learning about the immune side. I'm learning about the thyroid side.
- 2:47I have my health sorted into these two buckets, thyroid or immune.
- 2:52I can look at the buckets and I can see which one, you know,
- 2:56is bigger, which one needs more attention.
- 2:59I am making progress, but it's all in your head.
- 3:03Do you do that too? I know some people, they do the opposite and they just want
- 3:07to do. They don't want to do the learning and the thinking and the planning.
- 3:11My oldest, not my oldest, my oldest kid who is still in school,
- 3:15he is planning out or he's supposed to be planning out a 300 hour project for his senior year.
- 3:22And I am like in love with the planning stage. And I pulled up Google Sheets
- 3:27and I looked for templates and I found this project management template and it's all pretty.
- 3:32I was like, you could do this. You could use this to plan. And he's like,
- 3:35whatever, I'm doing this today.
- 3:37He's a doer and I'm a thinker. We need both and each person needs to do both.
- 3:44So after you sort, you go through Hashimoto's Decoded Thyroid or Immune and
- 3:49that is found in our school classroom. So S-K-O-O-L school is the platform.
- 3:56It's like a better version of Facebook, like Facebook used to be before it got
- 4:00overrun with the algorithm.
- 4:02And did you know that if you follow somebody on Instagram, TikTok,
- 4:08YouTube, I'm assuming Facebook, you can follow, you can subscribe,
- 4:11you can do all the things, but that's not necessarily what they're going to show you.
- 4:16They're going to show you things that they notice that slow your scroll.
- 4:19So if you say, I really want to focus on X, Y, and Z, but the algorithm noticed
- 4:25that you pause, that you slow down, that you watch the different things of A,
- 4:29B, and C, they're going to show you A, B, and C instead of what you specifically asked for of XYZ.
- 4:34Just, you know, random side note. I feel like everybody should know that.
- 4:39What was I saying? Okay, I was talking about school and how it is the better
- 4:42Facebook, because it is like Facebook was before the algorithm took over.
- 4:47When you join the school platform, there's a whole bunch of different groups,
- 4:51and you just stay in that group.
- 4:53You choose what group am I going to right now, and you visit that group,
- 4:57and you see things in the order that people posted or that new comments were there.
- 5:03It's not the algorithm deciding, and you don't see a whole bunch of ads.
- 5:07You just see the group's content. So I love the school platform for that reason.
- 5:13I am in several different groups. Of course, one of them is the Health with
- 5:16Hashimoto's community.
- 5:18In that community on school is a classroom tab.
- 5:22And in that classroom, you're going to find Hashimoto's decoded thyroid or immune.
- 5:26There's also a couple other things. Like if you've heard me mention the jumpstart
- 5:30to refreshing sleep and rest, I moved that from like an email series to the
- 5:36classroom of school a while back.
- 5:38So explore the classroom in there. If you are in our community, the community is free.
- 5:43So head over to the school community. The link should be down in the show notes.
- 5:48Anyway, after you've gone through Hashimoto's decoded thyroid or immune, now you know how to sort.
- 5:54And in the last couple episodes, we've practiced that. You have seen me put that into action.
- 6:00And so you have this example. If you need more help, I do do one-off sessions.
- 6:06You don't have to book the full six coaching sessions for Hashimoto's discernment coaching.
- 6:13You can do just a one time like, okay, I went through Hashimoto's Decoded.
- 6:18Now I know how to sort, but I just need help with this one thing.
- 6:21That's what those single sessions are for.
- 6:24So after you've learned how to sort, there's still things to do.
- 6:29The trap is that you sort and you feel like you made progress and starting or
- 6:35doing feels like a risk. So you just sort and then that's it.
- 6:39Or there's the people who want to just do but not sort.
- 6:42And so let's figure out what is your next step. There's three filters.
- 6:48Number one, choose something already on your list. It came out of your sorting.
- 6:53This is not like you were scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram or TikTok
- 6:58today and you saw something new.
- 7:00I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about something that you already have on your list.
- 7:04You sorted it into the two buckets, and you know that this is going to be helpful
- 7:09for you based on how you have sorted things out.
- 7:13Number two, look for something maybe that,
- 7:17is partially done. Partially true. You've done it before or you're doing a version
- 7:21of it inconsistently. Start there.
- 7:24Start with something that you already know works or you're already working on
- 7:27building the habit or the routine.
- 7:29And then number three, pick something that is small enough that is sustainable.
- 7:35That has been a consistent thing that I have talked about since the beginning.
- 7:40Choose things that are simple and sustainable. It has to be simple enough to keep doing.
- 7:45Because if you quit doing it, then you just wasted all of that time and effort.
- 7:49It has to be sustainable.
- 7:50So that is how I want you to pick your next thing. Number one,
- 7:54pick something that's already on your list.
- 7:56Number two, you already have tried it. You know that it kind of works,
- 8:01but maybe you just didn't put in a whole bunch of effort or maybe you have a kind of habit.
- 8:06It's not really a habit yet and you want to work on that and then choose something
- 8:09that is simple and sustainable.
- 8:13That is what you do next. Once you have things sorted into the thyroid and the
- 8:17immune buckets, then you can pick your next thing.
- 8:21You already know enough to begin. You don't need perfect labs.
- 8:25You don't need a full root cause functional medicine lab workout.
- 8:30Are they helpful? Absolutely.
- 8:33But do you need that right now to begin, to take your next step?
- 8:36No. You already know enough to take that next step.
- 8:40You don't need your doctor's blessing to drink more water. You don't need somebody
- 8:44to look at your labs to tell you that you need to go to bed earlier.
- 8:48You already know those things. You already know that they might be beneficial
- 8:52for you. So pick one next thing and begin.
- 8:57Come over to the school community, Health with Hashimoto's on the school platform,
- 9:02and let's talk about what you're doing. Share it with everybody.
- 9:05When you share your goal out loud, you're setting some accountability and just
- 9:10the act of making it public.
- 9:12Whether or not you come back and update us and say, hey, I had a really good
- 9:16week. I said I was going to do this and I did it. Or hey, I really struggled
- 9:19this week. I said I was going to do this and I did not do it.
- 9:22Whether or not you come back and inform everybody how you did,
- 9:26just stating your goal to others helps make it more real and actionable.
- 9:31So pick your goal, pick what you're going to do this week and come over to the
- 9:36school community and let us know. Let's talk about it.
- 9:38Thank you so much for coming along this summer series with me,
- 9:42for learning how to sort.
- 9:44I can't wait to see you in the Health with Hashimoto's community and hear what
- 9:48your next step is going to be.
- 9:51This podcast is for informational and educational purposes only.
- 9:54Please discuss any changes with your trusted healthcare provider.
- 9:57To take your next step, join our school community and explore the courses available
- 10:01there. You do not have to figure your health out alone.
- 10:05So that is school, S-K-O-O-L.com and it is the Health with Hashimoto's community.
