- 0:45Speaker 2: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:10Speaker 3: that usually gives you epic news recaps deep dives into
- 1:13Speaker 3: budgeting or investing, or what the Reserve Bank's been up to.
- 1:17Speaker 3: But today it's just you and me. We're going to
- 1:19Speaker 3: have a little chat because I don't know about you,
- 1:22Speaker 3: but lately things feel heavy life is loud, the news
- 1:26Speaker 3: is loud, and social media is loud, and sometimes I
- 1:30Speaker 3: think what we really need to do is take a
- 1:33Speaker 3: deep breath, step back, and just be reminded that we're
- 1:36Speaker 3: actually doing okay. So you know what, That's what this
- 1:40Speaker 3: episode is about. It's a little bit of a reset,
- 1:42Speaker 3: a permission slip, per se, a reminder to be a
- 1:45Speaker 3: little softer with yourself, a moment to say, hey, friend,
- 1:49Speaker 3: you are actually doing so much better than you think.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Because here's the thing. If you didn't save in your twenties,
- 1:56Speaker 3: you haven't failed, You're not behind. There's actually no rule
- 1:59Speaker 3: book that says you must have it all figured out
- 2:01Speaker 3: by twenty five or thirty or even forty. And I
- 2:05Speaker 3: know it feels like there is. I know that every
- 2:08Speaker 3: single time you scroll you see someone with a renovation
- 2:12Speaker 3: update or a new car, or a new baby, or
- 2:15Speaker 3: a pay rise or a picture perfect life. But those
- 2:18Speaker 3: aren't benchmarks. They're just moments, and someone else's moment doesn't
- 2:23Speaker 3: take away from yours. Honestly, I wish I had been
- 2:27Speaker 3: more carefree in my twenties. I was so deeply focused
- 2:30Speaker 3: on saving and building and quote doing the right thing
- 2:34Speaker 3: that I sometimes forgot to be a little bit silly,
- 2:37Speaker 3: a little bit spontaneous per se. Perhaps now because I'm
- 2:41Speaker 3: in my thirties and life's a little bit more serious,
- 2:43Speaker 3: I'm thinking about that there are real bills, real responsibilities,
- 2:47Speaker 3: and while I'm proud of what I have built, I
- 2:50Speaker 3: also realize how fleeting that younger version of life really was.
- 2:55Speaker 3: And maybe you're listening to this and you're thinking, well,
- 2:57Speaker 3: Victoria divine, that is so easy for you to say,
- 3:00Speaker 3: because you've got drive, you've got direction. But my friend,
- 3:02Speaker 3: here is the thing that I don't say enough. It's
- 3:06Speaker 3: actually completely okay to not be career driven. Truly, it
- 3:09Speaker 3: is okay and really nice to want a soft life,
- 3:13Speaker 3: a simple life, a quiet life. I know. I talk
- 3:16Speaker 3: a lot about goals and a lot about ambition and
- 3:20Speaker 3: chasing what you want, and you know what that's because
- 3:23Speaker 3: I really love that for me, But that doesn't mean
- 3:27Speaker 3: it has to be what you love or what you do.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Some days I don't feel like being driven either. Some
- 3:34Speaker 3: days I just want to sit in the sun and
- 3:35Speaker 3: have a coffee and not think about KPIs or business
- 3:37Speaker 3: plans or future me. And that does not make me lazy.
- 3:42Speaker 3: It actually makes me human and it makes you very
- 3:45Speaker 3: human too. You and I we put so much pressure
- 3:49Speaker 3: on ourselves to be successful, but have you actually ever
- 3:54Speaker 3: stopped to really think about what success really is? Is
- 3:57Speaker 3: it owning a house? Is it hitting sick figures? Is
- 4:00Speaker 3: it getting married? Or is it peace? Is it knowing
- 4:05Speaker 3: who you are and what makes you happy? Because honestly,
- 4:08Speaker 3: the older I get, the more I believe it is
- 4:11Speaker 3: the latter, and the more that I cherish those tiny,
- 4:15Speaker 3: quiet rituals that I never used to notice, like getting
- 4:19Speaker 3: to drink my coffee before the house wakes up, or
- 4:22Speaker 3: seeing my son laughing hysterically, or being able to call
- 4:25Speaker 3: my mum or my drive home. Like that stuff is
- 4:27Speaker 3: sacred and it's so easy to miss it while we
- 4:31Speaker 3: chase the next shiny thing. And honestly, I do think
- 4:36Speaker 3: one of the greatest acts of self love is actually
- 4:39Speaker 3: getting your finances sorted. I think being in a position
- 4:43Speaker 3: where you can say no to things that don't serve you,
- 4:45Speaker 3: whether that is a relationship or a job or a
- 4:48Speaker 3: bad landlord, it is so incredibly powerful and I deeply
- 4:52Speaker 3: want that for you. But I also know that life
- 4:55Speaker 3: happens that back up money you get spent the emergency fund.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Mine might go down and might be empty, but you
- 5:03Speaker 3: have to prioritize your mental health and your safety or
- 5:05Speaker 3: your family. And you know what that is. Okay, that's
- 5:08Speaker 3: actually what it was for. And I'm so proud of you.
- 5:11Speaker 3: You're not failing if you're spending money to heal, if
- 5:16Speaker 3: you've had to take a step back to be able
- 5:18Speaker 3: to protect your peace. Girl, there's no prize for struggling.
- 5:22Speaker 3: You don't need to hustle yourself into burnout to be
- 5:24Speaker 3: worthy of rest. Before we dive into the next part,
- 5:28Speaker 3: because you know I can get on a good rant.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I'm going to give myself and you a little break.
- 5:32Speaker 3: If you're multitasking or scrolling while listening, I want you
- 5:35Speaker 3: to try this with me. So like, unclench your draw,
- 5:39Speaker 3: roll those shoulders back a little bit, and take the
- 5:41Speaker 3: deepest breath you've taken all day in and doubt. That's
- 5:46Speaker 3: a little reset that you can give yourself anytime. And
- 5:51Speaker 3: when we come back, we're going to talk about something
- 5:54Speaker 3: I think is relatively freeing, why it's perfectly okay to
- 5:57Speaker 3: not want what everybody else seems to be chasing. Stay
- 6:02Speaker 3: with me. We're back, and I know some of us
- 6:08Speaker 3: are currently sitting in a space where we just feel
- 6:10Speaker 3: like we haven't done enough, that we should be further along,
- 6:14Speaker 3: that we should have a house, or a wedding, or
- 6:16Speaker 3: a business or whatever the world has made us believe
- 6:19Speaker 3: that we deeply need. But have you ever stopped to
- 6:22Speaker 3: ask yourself? Do I even want those things? Do you
- 6:27Speaker 3: want a house, the car, the ring? Do you just
- 6:30Speaker 3: think you should want them? Because when you peel back
- 6:34Speaker 3: the noise, it's actually quite freeing to admit that you
- 6:37Speaker 3: don't want what everybody else wants or has that maybe
- 6:42Speaker 3: your version of success is totally different. And girl, that
- 6:45Speaker 3: is so allowed. We are all so guilty. And I
- 6:50Speaker 3: am too of comparison, scrolling and comparing and feeling smaller
- 6:54Speaker 3: with every single tap and scroll. But to what end?
- 6:58Speaker 3: What does that even get us? A highlight reel that's
- 7:01Speaker 3: not life, and you're comparing it to your behind the
- 7:05Speaker 3: scenes that's not fair. There's also the thing that we
- 7:08Speaker 3: all do. We seem to wait for motivation to show up.
- 7:13Speaker 3: We sit there thinking, well, when I feel motivated, I'm
- 7:16Speaker 3: going to start. But motivation, it does not tap you
- 7:20Speaker 3: on the shoulder one morning. It's not a delivery service.
- 7:24Speaker 3: You have to create it. You have to start without it.
- 7:27Speaker 3: You have to decide that you are so worth showing
- 7:31Speaker 3: up for that your goals are worth the effort, even
- 7:35Speaker 3: if it's just a tiny little effort today, even if
- 7:38Speaker 3: all you can do is make your bed and drink
- 7:40Speaker 3: some water and send one email. Goal, that is still movement. Nobody, unfortunately,
- 7:45Speaker 3: is coming to save you. But we can save ourselves.
- 7:49Speaker 3: You can be the person that younger you needed desperately.
- 7:52Speaker 3: You can build a life that future you is proud of,
- 7:56Speaker 3: not all at once, but step by step, choice by choice.
- 8:00Speaker 3: And if you're still living at home right now, I
- 8:03Speaker 3: do want to speak to you too, There is nothing
- 8:05Speaker 3: wrong with that. In fact, it can be a smart
- 8:07Speaker 3: and strategic choice. If you're using this time to save,
- 8:11Speaker 3: to get clear on your goals, to give yourself a
- 8:13Speaker 3: leg up goal, that is brilliant. But even if you're
- 8:16Speaker 3: just surviving right now, that's okay too. What matters is
- 8:20Speaker 3: that you're trying. You're here, you're listening to a money
- 8:23Speaker 3: podcast that you care enough to want more for yourself,
- 8:27Speaker 3: even if you're not sure what more looks like yet.
- 8:31Speaker 3: So can we just take the pressure off, take the
- 8:34Speaker 3: weight off your shoulders for just like a moment. You
- 8:37Speaker 3: don't have to have it all figured out yet nobody does.
- 8:40Speaker 3: You don't need to have a five year plan. You
- 8:42Speaker 3: don't need to prove anything to anyone. You are so
- 8:45Speaker 3: allowed to take up space, to go slow and then
- 8:48Speaker 3: find your own pace. And if nobody has told you recently,
- 8:53Speaker 3: I'm so proud of you, truly, I'm so proud of
- 8:56Speaker 3: you for trying, for caring, for learning, for listening to
- 8:59Speaker 3: a podcast like this instead of doom scrolling, for even
- 9:03Speaker 3: wanting better. That says so much about you already. You're
- 9:08Speaker 3: doing better than you think. I promise, and I hope
- 9:10Speaker 3: this episode has helped you feel that or remind you
- 9:14Speaker 3: of that, and I'll be back soon. But until then,
- 9:17Speaker 3: I really really need you and want you to be
- 9:20Speaker 3: kind to yourself, because, my friend, you deserve it.
