- 0:00Today's episode is brought to you by people who blast bad music on the subway
- 0:04because they have absolutely no awareness.
- 0:07The wedding has already happened. You missed it.
- 0:11Zendaya's stylist on her and Tom Holland getting married.
- 0:15Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:20I'm Lindsay Vernick and it's March 3rd, 2026. i
- 0:23don't know about you but it feels like we can't
- 0:26go within like an hour without having to hear
- 0:30about the news and it just feels so so heavy right
- 0:33now i was complaining to my girlfriend last night
- 0:35on the train like we cannot escape the news and
- 0:38she was like lindsey you literally run a
- 0:42news podcast and i was like shit as
- 0:45i go back to look at my phone where i'm writing about the
- 0:48news so yeah we can't escape it
- 0:51so i'm gonna try to keep the sad like not
- 0:55fun stuff short and sweet today that being
- 0:57said in real news the u.s is officially expanding its military presence in the
- 1:03middle east as the war with iran escalates trump says this could possibly last
- 1:09four to five weeks maybe longer secretary of state marco rubio chimed in to
- 1:14let us know the hardest hits are still coming.
- 1:17So if we thought this was the dramatic climax, nope, we're apparently still in the opening credits.
- 1:23Thousands of airstrikes have already hit Iran over the past few days.
- 1:27Hundreds are dead, including senior Iranian military leaders and even the Ayatollah.
- 1:33Iran has responded by firing drones and missiles at Israel and U.S.
- 1:37Bases across the region.
- 1:38At least six American service members have now been killed. Two more were confirmed this week.
- 1:44The Pentagon says more fighter jets and troops are on the way.
- 1:48The chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Dan Kane, said they expect additional losses.
- 1:53Which means a lot more people are going to die.
- 1:56Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth insists this won't become another endless war,
- 2:01which is exactly what every administration says right before everyone starts
- 2:05Googling, how long was Iraq again?
- 2:08Also, a little minor detail, three U.S.
- 2:12Fighter jets were accidentally shot down by Kuwait in a friendly fighter incident.
- 2:17I think shot down and friendly are a bit of oxymorons in the same sentence,
- 2:22but luckily everyone survived, which is great.
- 2:26But it's also a reminder that when things get this crowded in the sky, there's a lot of chaos.
- 2:31The State Department is not urging Americans to leave 14 Middle Eastern countries
- 2:36immediately due to serious safety risks.
- 2:38So yes this is officially unofficial and
- 2:42here's the real tension they're saying it won't be long they're
- 2:45saying it won't be endless but they're also sending more troops more jets and
- 2:49preparing the country for more casualties so the question becomes what does
- 2:54mission accomplished even look like here destroying missile capabilities is
- 3:00one thing stabilizing the aftermath is another.
- 3:04And history has a very, very long memory.
- 3:07Anyway, so that's where we are with that. If you're listening to this early
- 3:11Tuesday morning and you happen to be awake before sunrise, congratulations and good morning.
- 3:16You either have discipline or a lot of anxiety.
- 3:21Either way, you should look up. And
- 3:24if you're listening to this after the sunrise, good morning to you too.
- 3:28A total lunar eclipse is happening right now.
- 3:32So Earth is sliding directly between the sun and the moon, and it's casting
- 3:36a shadow that will slowly turn the moon a deep copper red.
- 3:40That is what's known as a blood moon, which sounds like the start of a prophecy,
- 3:45but it's actually just basic science.
- 3:48According to NASA, the eclipse began around 3.44 a.m. Eastern.
- 3:54Totality, when the moon is fully inside Earth's darkest shadow and glowing red, starts at 6.04 a.m.
- 4:00And lasts for about 59 minutes exactly.
- 4:03So if you're on the East Coast, sunrise might interrupt the full view,
- 4:08but West Coast listeners get a better view of the main event.
- 4:11So why does it turn red, you may ask? Because Earth's atmosphere filters out
- 4:16blue light and lets red light pass through.
- 4:19It's basically the same reason sunsets look dramatic. the
- 4:22moon is just borrowing our aesthetic and if
- 4:25you miss it which there's a 99.9 percent
- 4:29chance that you did the next partial lunar eclipse
- 4:32is in august and the next total lunar eclipse isn't until 2028 it's for once
- 4:38something dramatic happening in the sky that doesn't involve politics live nation
- 4:43the company that owns literally everything from big arenas to your Ticketmaster Guilt Trips is on trial.
- 4:49The Justice Department says it's a monopoly, squeezing artists,
- 4:53venues, and fans for profit.
- 4:56Live Nation says, nope, we're fine, calling the case a molehill pretending to be a melon.
- 5:01The trial kicked off in Manhattan yesterday, and the CEO, Michael Rapinoe, will testify.
- 5:07Kid Rock might show up too. He hates the system but still uses it.
- 5:12The government isn't chasing the whole empire, just the juicy hits.
- 5:16Exclusive venue deals and forcing artists to play by Live Nation's rules if
- 5:20they want the big stages.
- 5:22So smaller venues are screwed, and competitors like SeatGeek are pushed out.
- 5:27Like, example, Barclays Center ditched Ticketmaster once, and Live Nation allegedly
- 5:32punished them by rerouting shows.
- 5:35And Live Nation obviously denies all this.
- 5:38This all traces back to a 2010 merger that regulators said was, okay, play nice.
- 5:44But obviously they didn't, and now the Justice Department is seeing if they
- 5:47can finally make the music giant behave, or fans will keep paying $500 for a
- 5:52decent seat forever. In Lindsay life.
- 5:55So yesterday I was like out of town down in the Lower East Side and I was talking
- 6:00to these two boys and I thought one was super cute so I'm chatting them up.
- 6:05I show them my podcast. They tell me they're gonna listen to it on their plane ride to Bulgaria.
- 6:10It was all great and the guy that
- 6:13I like leaves so I say to his friend like is
- 6:16your friend Jewish and he was like I have no idea
- 6:19but I think you're really cute and I'm Christian
- 6:22is that okay and I was like oh my god you're so cute but
- 6:26like not really no but you can try emailing me and he told me he definitely
- 6:31will so is the one guy who's about to ask me for a date to my email who I'm
- 6:37explicitly asking to be Jewish not be Jewish kill me now Lindsay lessons, a lesson by lens.
- 6:45A guy knows you're flirting with him when you make eye contact with him directly
- 6:50when he talks about deleting on stage during his stand-up set,
- 6:54and definitely will know that you're flirting with him when you start heckling him,
- 6:59asking him what other dating apps he's been on, and then it won't even come
- 7:03to fruition because he's 26 years old.
- 7:06Cooking tip of the day. Always keep a protein shake on you.
