- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by always being too hot or too cold and never just right.
- 0:06Why do you think it is your parents want you to work? The leader of an exclusive
- 0:10retreat for the world's richest kids collectively worth $7 billion where they
- 0:15try how to learn how to be a regular person.
- 0:18Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and
- 0:21maybe a laugh. I'm Lindsay Vernick and today is June 8th, 2026.
- 0:26It really is summer, which is like so crazy, right? Do you feel it yet?
- 0:31I feel like I'm just starting to.
- 0:34Anyways, in real news, today the Knicks are getting ready for Game 3 of the NBA Finals at MSG,
- 0:41but fans are being told to leave their bags at home, arrive two hours early,
- 0:45and prepare for TSA-style security screenings because President Trump is going to be there.
- 0:52The NYPD also canceled the usual watch party outside MSG because of security concerns.
- 0:58I mean, things got pretty wild on Friday night there.
- 1:01So after waiting decades for the Knicks to return to the finals,
- 1:05fans will celebrate the occasion the New York way, standing in a very long line
- 1:10and being told to take everything out of their pockets.
- 1:12Honestly, if the Knicks win, the security is going to be the safest place to be.
- 1:17Speaking of President Trump, yesterday he walked out of a taped interview with
- 1:22NBC's Meet the Press after things got a little too heated with Kristen Welker
- 1:26over his continued claims about the 2020 election and the January 6th Capitol riot.
- 1:31During the interview, Welker questioned Trump about a proposed $1.8 billion
- 1:36compensation fund for people he says were victims of politically motivated prosecutions.
- 1:42When asked whether people who pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers during
- 1:46the January 6th attack could receive compensation, Trump declined to rule that out.
- 1:52Also repeated claims that the 2020 election and California's recent primary election were rigged.
- 1:59Welker pushed back on this one, saying that there is no evidence to support those claims.
- 2:04When Trump argued that extended ballot counting was proof something was wrong,
- 2:09Welker responded, but that's not evidence.
- 2:12And that's when things went really sideways.
- 2:15Trump began criticizing NBC and other networks before saying,
- 2:19let's call it quits because I've had enough. Thank you, darling.
- 2:23Have a good time. He then unclipped his microphone, stood up, and walked off set.
- 2:28The interview was recorded inside a barn in Wisconsin ahead of a roundtable
- 2:32event with farmers, and throughout the interview, you can hear rain pounding on the roof.
- 2:37Trump later said that the weather was the main reason for his frustration,
- 2:42telling the audience, because it was raining, I got a little bit angry at them.
- 2:46Yes, the rain made you angry, not the fact that someone just tried to get you
- 2:50to admit that you helped the rioters from January 6 and claim that all elections
- 2:55are rigged. But yeah, that rain's going to get you.
- 2:58Either way, it's not every day that a presidential interview ends with someone
- 3:01saying, I'm done with this conversation, and then physically walking out of the barn.
- 3:06That's just reserved for family dinners.
- 3:09This guy from Houston is facing felony charges after he snuck onto a United
- 3:13Airlines flight to LA using a fake boarding pass.
- 3:17So this 25-year-old repeatedly tried to board flights at Houston's airport on
- 3:21May 18th, but was turned away each time when his boarding pass wouldn't scan.
- 3:26So eventually he just waited until the gate agents were distracted and he just
- 3:31walked down the jet bridge onto the L.A. flight.
- 3:34So you would think he's in the clear, right? Wrong. Once he got on, things got even worse.
- 3:40So he gets onto the plane and then like immediately disappears into the bathroom.
- 3:44He comes back to find the actual passenger assigned to that seat he had sat in before.
- 3:50And then he just kept trying to go to the bathroom while the plane was trying to depart.
- 3:55So as he kept trying to go, like, just hang out in the bathroom,
- 3:59flight attendants were like, hey, dude, like, who are you?
- 4:02And he said that he was Mr. Lopez.
- 4:04The problem was that there was no Mr. Lopez on the flight manifest.
- 4:09So then the plane had to return to the gate, and everyone had to get off the
- 4:13plane, and police had to search the plane with K-9 units, and the flight was
- 4:17delayed for about three hours.
- 4:20But the cops are still trying to figure out how the boarding pass was able to scan into the flight.
- 4:25So on Friday, the 25-year-old was arrested, and now he's charged with impairing
- 4:30or interrupting a critical infrastructure facility.
- 4:33Look, I've never tried to sneak onto a plane, but I feel like step one should
- 4:37be having a seat assignment.
- 4:39Step two should probably not be introducing yourself as a guy who doesn't exist.
- 4:43In Lindsay life, so this weekend, my ex took me out to dinner,
- 4:47which is already a sentence that I will have to unpack with my therapist at a later date.
- 4:52But the dinner could have gone one of two days, one of two ways.
- 4:56We could have either gotten back together for the third or fourth time,
- 4:59or we could have just had a normal nice dinner as best friends. And that's what we did.
- 5:04While we were having dinner, I told him that I wish we could have just gotten married.
- 5:09Like things would have just been so much easier because we're best friends.
- 5:11And they say you should marry your best friends.
- 5:14However, we're just not compatible in like a marriage way, which I guess is pretty important.
- 5:19So yeah, I'm happy we decided not to get back together for the third or fourth time.
- 5:24Yeah, I love him in like a brother type of way and I really do wish I could marry him.
- 5:29But then you also have to remember that you need chemistry is kind of important
- 5:34if you are going to marry somebody.
- 5:36Thing of this week is the concept of a ceasefire.
- 5:40Not an actual ceasefire, just the concept of it, the idea, the dream,
- 5:44the Pinterest board version of a ceasefire.
- 5:47Just yesterday, Iran launched missiles at Israel for the first time since the
- 5:51April ceasefire, after Israel carried out a strike in Beirut earlier in the day.
- 5:56At this point, calling something a ceasefire feels a little optimistic.
- 6:00It's kind of like when a couple post a relationship announcement after breaking
- 6:04up six times. Technically, they're together, but nobody's expecting a wedding anytime soon.
- 6:11Israel intercepted the missiles and has warned of further military action.
- 6:16Iran says the strikes were warning and threatened broader attacks of Israeli operations continue.
- 6:21Meanwhile, Trump reportedly plans to call Netanyahu and encourage him not to
- 6:26retaliate. So that's where we are right now.
- 6:29Everybody is calling everybody, telling them not to do the thing that they're
- 6:32already halfway through doing.
- 6:34I wish there could be a week where the biggest international story is that one
- 6:38of the world leaders got caught using chat to write a letter to one of the other
- 6:42ones, but we all know that's not happening.
- 6:45Instead, we have to wake up every morning, open the news, and discover that
- 6:49stability is apparently not a real thing.
- 6:51So a thing of this week is ceasefires. Not because they're working,
- 6:55but because we'd all really like to actually see one someday.
- 6:59Cooking tip of the day. I think going to Whole Foods on Tuesdays is the best
- 7:03because it's quiet, and I think those are the best deals on those days.
- 7:08Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish by looking for a date,
- 7:11email me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com. Thanks so much for listening.
- 7:15Talk to you guys tomorrow.
