Transcript
- 0:00Hey, hey, it's Casual Friday. We've got a great episode coming
- 0:04this week. We get into all sorts of sticky
- 0:07situations, whether it's being tempted by big packages, that's
- 0:11what she said, to being forced into sharing too much of your
- 0:13private life, to some pretty unspeakable horrible comments
- 0:17being said by a supervisor. We help our listeners navigate
- 0:20through all of it. We also get into some pretty
- 0:22intense rapid fire where I say some bad words.
- 0:25So if you've got kids in the car, maybe earmuffs for this
- 0:28episode, but it's going to be a lot fun.
- 0:30Thank you so much for hanging out with us.
- 0:32Welcome to not all Wait. She always likely does this
- 0:36better than I do. She says Welcome to Not All
- 0:39Business, a podcast by two former CE OS turned friends.
- 0:43It's going to be great. We have a producer named Clay
- 0:46and yes, let's get down to business.
- 0:58You all ready? We're ready.
- 1:00Let's go. OK, let's do it.
- 1:01Welcome to I don't interrupt my. No, I'm not interrupting.
- 1:07Shows with boots and cats, but. No, it wasn't.
- 1:10It was a wild thing. Wild thing.
- 1:17All right, welcome to Casual Friday, everyone, where Heather
- 1:21and I get red sticky situations from Clay.
- 1:25I mean, Clay's not in the sticky situation, so he just reads
- 1:29them. Clay, just want to emphasize in
- 1:32the. Background typing up all the
- 1:34sticky situations. These are coming from people,
- 1:38not me. Not read the.
- 1:41Actual people. But the just real quick though,
- 1:44on Instagram though, there's one sticky situation where the way
- 1:48that it's edited is I start and this is out.
- 1:51You can go see it now on our Instagram page.
- 1:52I start and I basically I read off.
- 1:55I'm curvy and thick and I'm having issues with my wardrobe
- 2:02and and I'm like, I've watched it And I was like, are we about
- 2:06to put this out? And then I was like, this is
- 2:08exactly why we started this show for me to read this.
- 2:12Hold the phone, Clay. You would not believe so on the
- 2:16last sticky situation episode, we read the most amazing
- 2:19listener letter where the woman like took some advice and she
- 2:22got a promotion. It was awesome.
- 2:24So today, and I know you did not know this because you would not
- 2:27have brought that up today, we got another letter and it's
- 2:31about that real. The one you.
- 2:34The curvy and thick 1 yes, all right, stars are aligning.
- 2:39Do tell, OK? I'm a little sad that I'm not
- 2:41reading it, but I can't wait to hear.
- 2:43Oh no, no, no, it's so good. OK, I'm reading this listener.
- 2:47I would call it a reader reaction.
- 2:49Maybe a listener reaction. I'm not sure if it's a letter.
- 2:51Like it was a little short note. It said OMG which stands for.
- 2:57OK, everybody knows that. I don't know, Clay is really
- 3:01pedantic about his initial. I wasn't allowed to say Oh my
- 3:05God as. My.
- 3:06Gads, I had to say goodness, Oh my goodness.
- 3:10All right, Oh my goodness. Listening to the latest Casual
- 3:14Friday episode and I've never related to anything more in my
- 3:17life than when you mentioned, and she means me, that you have
- 3:22to this day bad pasture because of having large boobs.
- 3:25The exact same thing happened to me starting in 8th grade.
- 3:28That's right, like when it happened to me.
- 3:30Well I guess that's puberty right?
- 3:32And I used to hunch and wear 2 sports bras so that people
- 3:35wouldn't notice my boobs. It is the reason why I have bad
- 3:38posture. Me too.
- 3:40I've never heard anyone else talk about doing the same thing.
- 3:43I think most girls used to flaunt them or used to flaunt
- 3:46them, but I've always tried to hide them.
- 3:50I have never felt so seen as when this listener wrote in and
- 3:54I know we do this podcast for our listeners, but I am telling
- 3:59you full circle moment when I received that note, it was like,
- 4:03thank you because you guys gave me no empathy on that.
- 4:05We did that large boots. Wow, wow, wow, right that was.
- 4:09Pretty much it. It's been a plight.
- 4:12It's, it's not horrible, it's just hard, right?
- 4:14It's just hard. And I just love this.
- 4:18I love her, I love her. That's so nice.
- 4:21That's beautiful. Well, thank you for writing in,
- 4:23and I'm sorry. I hope I.
- 4:25Hope you're nicer to me next time.
- 4:28Yep, I am not walking into that. I hope you guys, I'm sorry I cut
- 4:36you off. I hope.
- 4:37I'm not walking big and tall into that with my great posture
- 4:40and my because of I What's my excuse for bad posture if I
- 4:45don't have that weight on the front side holding me down?
- 4:50I have no excuse. So I have to cut you off, cut
- 4:52you down, make myself feel better.
- 4:55Right. And I'm sorry that my silence
- 5:00came off as. Non supportive.
- 5:03Non supportive. If I were a bra I would have
- 5:07been a non supportive bra in that moment and I just wanted to
- 5:12say that I I want to be a supportive.
- 5:18Bra. Underwire Bra.
- 5:20You want to be a supportive. For class.
- 5:22I don't say bra, but everyone. Says Bra.
- 5:26Did you say the four class? Those are the worst.
- 5:29Yeah, the four class. I don't know about underwire
- 5:31ones, sports bras and like padded ones and then I think I
- 5:37know of like another kind, but I can't push up those are not.
- 5:40All mutually exclusive. You know those can be all
- 5:43combined into one. Yeah.
- 5:45But good job on naming your types of bras.
- 5:48Sports bras are the worst. They're the worst.
- 5:51And I tried, when I'm doing this PIP for pup thing, like to get
- 5:54away without putting one on 'cause I just can't.
- 5:56I hate them so much and I get tangled up in them and I get
- 5:59stuck in my closet for like a good 20 seconds with my arms.
- 6:03Like I can't, I'm stuck. I need to get out of them.
- 6:08But then I did a couple videos. I'm like, now it's going to have
- 6:11to happen. I can't can't skip that.
- 6:14So you're. Welcome.
- 6:16Speaking of being supportive, I was not necessarily going to do
- 6:20the PIP for PUP. You know I already am like at
- 6:22the gym working out, getting like bossed around and not sure
- 6:26I needed more. Hard buddy.
- 6:28But we have this big, we have this big competition every year
- 6:33at CrossFit. It's called the Open.
- 6:34Anyone can do it. It's three weeks long, you have
- 6:373 workouts. It's just, it's really fun to be
- 6:39honest. But every year there is one
- 6:42workout where they do like this progression ladder.
- 6:45It's some kind of exercise. And then it's like a jumping
- 6:48pull up, some kind of exercise. And then a regular pull up, some
- 6:51kind of exercise, chest to bar pull up.
- 6:53Sometimes it kind of some kind of exercise and then a muscle,
- 6:56muscle up. So like that's a pull up
- 6:58progression and so whatever I can do jumping pull ups, you can
- 7:02jump, you can do jumping pull ups.
- 7:03Obviously who? Can.
- 7:05It's just jumping. It's just why they had the word
- 7:07pull up on, I don't know. It's.
- 7:08Just not a real pull up. I thought you were just being an
- 7:10asshole. No, no, no, no.
- 7:12But I get to the pull up and I couldn't do 1 today.
- 7:16Like not one, not a single one. So I had to sit there for 8
- 7:21minutes while the clock was running out of time, just
- 7:24attempting and there's. That's why I hate it.
- 7:28This doesn't end. Is every year they like try to
- 7:31film me because so many people get their first pull up during
- 7:35the open and it's like tears and we're celebrating and it's
- 7:38awesome like so many people. And so they always know I'm a
- 7:41target for it. So they like secretly film the
- 7:44year. And I like, sorry, disappointing
- 7:47you once again. It's not my year.
- 7:49And. Are you close though?
- 7:50Do you? Are you?
- 7:51Like done one once. OK.
- 7:54But I'm a yo yoer in terms of weight and I think it makes a
- 7:58huge difference. So like when I'm up, it's
- 8:01harder, right? It's more body weight to pull.
- 8:03And when I'm down, I guess that one time is down.
- 8:06I got 1. And so I'm just sending I just I
- 8:09got my stress weight on this month and so I'm not really that
- 8:13close. No, I mean, I guess I kind of
- 8:15am. But all to say.
- 8:18Welcome to the team. I just like, maybe I'll just do
- 8:21the PIP for PUP with you, yeah. Yes.
- 8:26Yes. Yes, yes.
- 8:28And you're not alone. We've got other people following
- 8:30it along too. So.
- 8:31I know, I know. That's actually inspiring.
- 8:34I was people are like texting us going I'm the day behind.
- 8:38But I got this. I still no one's sharing the
- 8:40videos though. I'm like come on people, let's
- 8:42post. Why don't you guys post some
- 8:44stuff of looking ridiculous? I got to show the.
- 8:47Video No, of course you weren't. No one.
- 8:48No one's doing that. That's just me all out on my
- 8:50own. But hey, who doesn't want to see
- 8:52an old lady try to work out? I mean, is there anything better
- 8:55out there? I don't think you're.
- 8:56Pretty funny. I want to see your bloopers
- 8:59reel. Just saying.
- 9:01I got all tangled up in a band the other day.
- 9:03It was humiliating. OK.
- 9:05That is going on air. It's a struggle.
- 9:07Got to show that one. All right, I will.
- 9:09I mean, who cares? Yeah, OK.
- 9:11Sorry, Clay. No, no, no, not at all.
- 9:14Speaking of getting tangled up in something trying to figure
- 9:18your way out. Yes.
- 9:20We've got some sticky situations today, and yeah, Blakely said
- 9:23earlier. Like, aren't you the host?
- 9:25This is off mic. She was like, aren't you the
- 9:27host? Aren't you supposed to do this?
- 9:28Well, you know what? I'm stepping in, step in.
- 9:30It's time to get through some sticky situations.
- 9:34Let's do it. We've had people write in, we've
- 9:36got them curated, we're ready to go through them.
- 9:39So it's another Friday. Are you 2 ready?
- 9:42So ready bring it. We're not going to bring it.
- 9:44It's. Not rapid fire yet, we're just
- 9:46doing sticky situations. Rapid fire is coming.
- 9:49Rapid fire is honest. It's the.
- 9:51Worst part of my week. OK.
- 9:53Let's go. Let's do it.
- 9:55You won last time, stop complaining.
- 9:57I didn't. It was like a courtesy win.
- 9:59All right, let's go. What do we got?
- 10:05You know how every industry has that one relationship where both
- 10:09sides need each other, but the communication is just broken?
- 10:13In construction, that's general contractors and subcontractors.
- 10:16The invoices get lost, the budgets blow up, and nobody's on
- 10:20the same page. Well, Trade Agent fixes that.
- 10:24It's the AI layer that sits between GCS and Subs and keeps
- 10:28the whole thing from falling apart.
- 10:31Invoices, budgets, payments handled like magic.
- 10:35No more fights, no more finger pointing, and everyone can get
- 10:39back to actual building. Check it out at the Trade
- 10:43agent.com. OK, this first sticky situation
- 10:51we're going to get into, I'm really curious about what you
- 10:54have to say because this one seems like not like what would
- 11:00you have done? But what should I do?
- 11:02So it's like right now, OK. OK.
- 11:05Here we go. Hi Blakely and Heather.
- 11:07I work as a senior manager at a large tech company, the kind of
- 11:12work that, honestly, AI is starting to eat.
- 11:15My company just announced voluntary early exit packages
- 11:20ahead of what might be a broader round of layoffs.
- 11:24The package is generous. That's what she said.
- 11:28Sorry listener put this in. Sorry about that.
- 11:31In my case, 18 months of severance.
- 11:35Yeah, that's very generous. OK, OK, but wait for the next
- 11:40sentence. I'm not taking it.
- 11:43I'm a significant breadwinner with two young kids, and even
- 11:47with 18 months of runway, I'm scared of what the job market
- 11:51looks like on the other side. Right now, several people are
- 11:54taking the package, both direct reports and peers.
- 11:59My reasoning is that I might be able to absorb multiple teams,
- 12:04grow my scope, and make myself harder to cut.
- 12:08The risk I know I'm taking is that the first packages are
- 12:12usually the biggest and they could still cut me in the first
- 12:16round, or I could receive less or even nothing in a subsequent
- 12:20round. I know I've made my decision,
- 12:22but I'd love to hear how you'd think about this.
- 12:25Am I being smart or would I have been better off taking the
- 12:29money? Yeah.
- 12:31Wow, I don't like this one because I there it is.
- 12:35We might lose a listener after this one, because I'm going to
- 12:38be really. Honest, what are you going to
- 12:39say? I'm.
- 12:40Going to be really honest about it.
- 12:43I feel like I owe it to him or her.
- 12:46Oh. You're not going to absorb the
- 12:49other team because if they thought you were someone to
- 12:52absorb the other team, you wouldn't be on the list.
- 12:57You wouldn't be on the voluntary exit list in the first place.
- 13:00Isn't everyone on the voluntary exit list or No, it doesn't say
- 13:04that. Well, it doesn't say I not
- 13:07typically, no. You wouldn't put a whole company
- 13:09on a voluntary exit list. There would be a list of like
- 13:14there would be a decision at a certain level of management.
- 13:18If that's true, if everyone is on that, then that's a different
- 13:22story. Then yes, potentially you could.
- 13:24But if you, if you're part of this group, one that has been
- 13:29given this offer, then that list was compiled by someone and your
- 13:35name is on it. And so that's going to be a lot
- 13:38to come back from to absorb other departments just because
- 13:43you decide to stay. So I'm not saying you shouldn't
- 13:47stay and you have to do what makes the most sense for your
- 13:50family in this immediate moment and your connections and
- 13:53likelihood of getting another position, like all of those are
- 13:55very, very important things to consider.
- 13:58But I would not stay to hang your hat on the fact that it's
- 14:02likely if you choose to stay that you'll be the one to get
- 14:05promoted or take these other departments.
- 14:07That would be a very, very risky thing to do.
- 14:11OK. I see your perspective.
- 14:14I, I will say Scott worked for Scott, my husband worked for IBM
- 14:19for 25 years and they are a margin based business.
- 14:22So they are in the business of cutting people a lot and re
- 14:29adding, cutting and re adding, right.
- 14:30It's like a strategy. And so he got put on these
- 14:34voluntary lists quite often, like every year.
- 14:40And every year he got saved, so to speak.
- 14:44So I, I think it wasn't as like someone was picking people, they
- 14:51were picking teams. And so I do think she might just
- 14:55be on a team versus, but, but you're I, I, I think your point
- 15:00is really valid, Heather, because my inclination on that
- 15:06is if you're going to proactively stay and that is
- 15:10what you're hoping for, hope is not a strategy.
- 15:13And so you got to go make it happen, right?
- 15:16Like, I maybe start asking some probing questions like, hey,
- 15:21this is what's happening. This is who's leaving.
- 15:23I'd like to absorb this, like get the response.
- 15:26Absolutely, because it's. Probably, yeah, it might not be
- 15:29too late to still take the package, right?
- 15:30They want people to go right, but, but, but in the flip side,
- 15:35when Scott was on the chopping block every year and then saved
- 15:38every year, the first time he was on the chopping block, he
- 15:40got a month for every year he was there for 25 years.
- 15:43So think about what that package was by the time he left.
- 15:47And he did not ever take one of these packages, but by the time
- 15:50he left, they were offering two weeks.
- 15:53Yeah. To everyone.
- 15:55So he went from 2 years to two weeks.
- 15:58Yeah. So the risk is real there, yeah.
- 16:05I think that's, I think that's a really important distinction.
- 16:08One if if it's open to everybody, then you need to do
- 16:12your due diligence and you need to go talk to the people that
- 16:16are in control of who's on these lists and you need to
- 16:19communicate that. What are your options if you do
- 16:23stay? Would you be able to apply for X
- 16:26position in which team lead and actually like find out what the
- 16:29paths for career development are?
- 16:30If you stay, they're not going to commit to anything or promise
- 16:33you anything they're going to say, but they'll, they can
- 16:35either shut it down completely and say that's very unlikely or
- 16:38they can say, well, if you stayed and this department
- 16:40opened up and this, then I would suggest you do XYZ and give some
- 16:44kind of an open plan there for you.
- 16:48That's if it was open to everybody and the whole team is
- 16:50getting cut. That's the option.
- 16:52I'd go talk to them, find out what your options are if you
- 16:54stay. If it was not the entire team
- 16:58and there was just this curated list, then I would take the deal
- 17:01and I would immediately start working your network and working
- 17:04your connections and saving as much money as you can in the
- 17:07meantime. Yeah, I would take the last part
- 17:10of what you said, Heather, and say save no matter what.
- 17:13Like at some point the reason you feel like stressed in this
- 17:16decision is you probably might not know what your number is for
- 17:22freedom. Like what number do you need to
- 17:24have in your savings account to feel the freedom to make all
- 17:26these decisions? And it's really hard when you're
- 17:28in that young kids breadwinner phase to have the kind of
- 17:33financial freedom you need to be able to walk away from some of
- 17:36these things. Because 18 months I look at it
- 17:37and I'm like, great, I'll take 18 months.
- 17:39I get more time with my kids, more time to work out.
- 17:43But she is in a line of business that AI is coming for.
- 17:47And so that's a tough one. I, I think she's thought this
- 17:51through really well. And probably what's best for her
- 17:54family. And if I think about health
- 17:56benefits is to stay is absolutely to stay.
- 17:59But even if you stay, pretend like you're on half a salary
- 18:05because that kind of will mitigate your risk.
- 18:07So do not live business as usual, it would be my advice.
- 18:13Yeah. And then when you're there like
- 18:14find ways to become indispensable, get get a hold of
- 18:17what is the new direction, what is the mission?
- 18:18How are you adding to that? How can you be creative to
- 18:21launch a new project and say, hey, I think this is going to
- 18:23really supplement what we're doing to make yourself really
- 18:26important in the next stage of the company and helping them.
- 18:30Yeah, these, these new heights, even using AI, don't shy away
- 18:33from it. Don't be afraid.
- 18:33Dive into it, understand it, understand how it can be
- 18:36leveraged. Understand what deficiencies in
- 18:38your apartment department can be gained in using AI and be
- 18:42creative. Be on their team as they are
- 18:45slimming down to help come up with ideas to be relevant and
- 18:49show them that you get it and you're part of the new vision.
- 18:52I love that last part. Yeah, we should.
- 18:55We should close on that, be part of the new vision.
- 18:57Be. Part of the new vision.
- 18:59Good luck, sister. Good luck.
- 19:02And go check out our episodes with Bailey Hancock and Sam
- 19:07Yarborough on how to work your network make real, lasting
- 19:12connections with people. And Michelle lando on resume
- 19:14writing and. Brand and Michelle Lando.
- 19:17Michelle Yeah. Oh, we have some good alumni.
- 19:20OK, yeah, we've got another sticky situation to get into,
- 19:24and this one is about secrets. Secret secrets hurt someone.
- 19:30Oh wait, what's the 1st? Secrets.
- 19:32Secret secrets are no fun. Secret secrets hurt someone.
- 19:36I've never heard that various. What is that?
- 19:37Is that like a nursery school rhyme or what your mom told you
- 19:40to like do secrets? I think it was Sesame Street.
- 19:42I don't know. It's always what like the creepy
- 19:45doll like says to you in the horror movie like Secret.
- 19:48Secrets hurt someone. Why are people watching Stranger
- 19:51Things? I saw.
- 19:53Excuse me, I saw. ATV Show. 10 decades seconds.
- 19:56OK. We have no time for that.
- 19:57No, no, what I'm saying is Emeris is at my 6 year old is at
- 20:01school and. A classmate of his says I watch
- 20:05Stranger. No, I watched it.
- 20:07I, I, I, we have a rule like Nick can watch it when I'm not
- 20:11around. I can't even handle the sounds
- 20:12of it. It's so scary.
- 20:13It's so dark. It's so.
- 20:15And then I walked down and it was like blood like splattered
- 20:19on some like 6 year old's face. I'm like what is this show and
- 20:23why is everyone obsessed? It just feels just up as
- 20:27characters for Halloween. That's cool.
- 20:30You know, that's fun. I don't get it, you guys.
- 20:32But here's the thing. So the first two seasons were
- 20:35like, they're kids in the 80s, this is fun.
- 20:38They're figuring stuff out. Now they're like, I don't know
- 20:41if they're adults, but they're like, they're not kids anymore.
- 20:44So they got to like amp it up. A little bit but hold on and
- 20:47wait for season 3. If you watch no other season,
- 20:50just watch season 3 because it takes place in the mall and
- 20:54every every childhood memory you ever had about being in the mall
- 20:59will come flooding back. It is hands down the most
- 21:02nostalgic, best piece of television for a Gen.
- 21:04Xer. I can't, but I can't I mean God,
- 21:08but I have to sit through all of like the hell and fire and
- 21:11brimstone and blood and and nasty just to get nostalgic.
- 21:15Like I can just go watch fucking.
- 21:18What was the show with the Zach and the they were in school
- 21:24Saved by the bell. I.
- 21:25Could just go. Nothing nostalgic about Saved by
- 21:28the Bell. Those guys were blah.
- 21:30It's like having to sit through all the raping in Game of
- 21:32Thrones just to get to like where good wins out over evil.
- 21:35I agree. That was a little rough, yeah.
- 21:37But yeah, yeah. When people are like, I love
- 21:40Game of Thrones, I'm a little, I'm a little bit like, well, why
- 21:43do you love that? OK, anyway, speak me secrets.
- 21:47Let's get into sticky situation #2 OK, here we go.
- 21:50This one comes in from a listener, dear.
- 21:52Not all business. Oh, I'm included in this one.
- 21:55This one's nice You. Too, buddy.
- 21:58I just moved across the country two months ago to start my own
- 22:01business. Nice.
- 22:03I even just got a notice of allowance on my patent.
- 22:08But I'm smart. But I'm not ready to launch yet,
- 22:12so in the meantime, I took a corporate job to pay the rent.
- 22:17Here's the problem. My employee agreement is
- 22:21aggressive. The company claims rights to any
- 22:24work done on the clock, including patents.
- 22:27So I've been really careful. No emails, no texts about my
- 22:31start up unless I'm clocked out. I'm not doing anything wrong, I
- 22:35just don't want to give anyone a reason to come looking.
- 22:39But now. But now my manager has assigned
- 22:43a team building exercise. We all have to make and present
- 22:46a dream board at our next meeting.
- 22:48I'm sorry, my watch. OK, let's pause there.
- 22:53Is this like acceptable? Is this a thing that happens?
- 22:56For a year, no. Corporation is having you do a
- 23:03dream board. That's OK, that's easy.
- 23:05Keep going. OK, next schedule.
- 23:07Friday, we're all bringing our dream boards.
- 23:10You already have one it looks like behind you.
- 23:12Yeah, a good point. OK, so dream board, all right.
- 23:17We all have to make and present a dream board at our next
- 23:19meeting. I'm planning to keep mine vague.
- 23:22Peace of Mind, freedom, nothing that points anywhere specific.
- 23:28My real question is the job is getting more personal than I
- 23:31expected and I'm starting to wonder should I be telling my Co
- 23:35workers about my business at all?
- 23:38And how do you keep 2 worlds from colliding when you're
- 23:41living in both of them at the same time?
- 23:45Thanks so much, so many thoughts on this one.
- 23:49I do think Heather's little lawyer glasses are going to come
- 23:52out here because I know whenever I had to sign employee
- 23:56agreements, I had to like disclose my, my IP that I had
- 24:03that I want to own. So I'm wondering.
- 24:04Yeah, this person an IP agreement that.
- 24:06That's what it is. I don't know if you always have
- 24:08to do that, if that's just like a special executive, you see it
- 24:11a lot or especially 1099 we had. Everyone signing at cloud coach,
- 24:14yeah. You did.
- 24:15Especially in tech where there's any development going on, yeah.
- 24:18So I'm kind of making an assumption that this person did
- 24:21not sign one of those because otherwise I think they would
- 24:25feel a little more free maybe to talk about it.
- 24:28For me, this sounds like a moonlighting situation, not like
- 24:32the TV show, but like your moonlighting, right?
- 24:34Yeah, I know. It was so good.
- 24:37Nothing like Stranger Things, but go ahead.
- 24:40See the difference though? OK, yeah, I do see the
- 24:43difference. Misogyny and OK right.
- 24:50I so just personally, I started Taskray as a moonlighting
- 24:56business. And so I had to keep those walls
- 24:59and those boundaries. And not going to lie, like there
- 25:03was so much tension there because my boss was actually one
- 25:06of my best friends. So I not only had to keep those
- 25:12boundaries. So I wasn't, you know, crossing
- 25:14the line. And it sounds like you're super
- 25:16meticulous at doing that. But I had to be cagey with my
- 25:19one of my best friends and that was really tough and it caused
- 25:24some tension. And good news is we're still
- 25:27very close today. But I would say there was a
- 25:29period of about a year to two years that we had to like let
- 25:33things cool off as I was like going down on one and moving up,
- 25:38like ratcheting up my time on the other.
- 25:40So I think those tensions exist. I also think the other thing I
- 25:45heard when they were doing these dream boards, it's getting more
- 25:48personable because it sounds like you're a personable person.
- 25:52Like it's only getting more personal because people are
- 25:54excited to get to know you, I think.
- 25:56And you've been there for two months and now you're at three
- 25:58months. So that's really good.
- 25:59It means you're a cool dude or cool woman or whoever.
- 26:03You're cool, but but I would caution you right now to get
- 26:11anything more than vague because what can be?
- 26:14It's so new in your relationship with your Co workers.
- 26:18Anything you say like you just don't know them well enough to
- 26:22confide and like, you know, happy hours.
- 26:25People get loose lips. You're doing those dream vision
- 26:27boards and you have a drink and they're like, hey, Sully is
- 26:31starting a company. You got a patent like you just
- 26:34don't know these people well enough yet.
- 26:35You just don't. So your dream board needs to be
- 26:38about your house, other vacation you want to take, but let's not
- 26:42make it about your patents. Yep, I agree.
- 26:45I think the whole general, it's a hard line, the whole business
- 26:50personal as a leader, you want your employees to know that you
- 26:54care about them and their personal lives.
- 26:55And so that do you want to ask them how's it going?
- 26:58You know, how can we support you in your personal endeavors or so
- 27:02there's a bit of that, but you also have to just know like
- 27:05what's enough? I think, I think a formal dream
- 27:07board session where everyone has a task to go away and then come
- 27:11and present it is way crossing a line.
- 27:14I think if you want to have a vision for your role at the
- 27:16company and how you see that playing and how does that well
- 27:19up to the over, I mean that's fantastic.
- 27:21But to like put it as like for your whole life, I think there's
- 27:24probably a very well-intentioned team builder manager that has
- 27:29great intentions but really isn't thinking through that.
- 27:32Not everybody may feel the same way he or she does about that
- 27:35stuff because that person might be an open book and think that
- 27:37everybody else is too. So agreed for this person, I
- 27:40think just guard, say what you're comfortable.
- 27:42You don't want to be an asshole and refuse to, you know,
- 27:47cooperate with the dream board process.
- 27:50But I agree with Blakely, Like there's a lot of things about
- 27:52your life. It could be, you know,
- 27:55connecting more with family, or it could be getting out in
- 27:58nature more, or you could keep things like very vague like
- 28:01that. But with your business, you hold
- 28:02that. I don't care if you have a
- 28:03patent or not, You'd hold that as tight as you possibly can
- 28:07until you're ready to go to market.
- 28:08And also, that's your dream or you wouldn't have gone through
- 28:12the trouble of the painstaking process of getting a patent and
- 28:15the money behind it. So that's your real dream.
- 28:18It's your private dream and that's OK Keep it that way.
- 28:21Love your conclusions and you, you little wink.
- 28:26It's your real dream. I can't wonder what it is.
- 28:29Though also write it and feel free to tell us all about it.
- 28:35We're not your employer. I also want to see a copy of the
- 28:38Dream board in your follow up listener letter.
- 28:41I do too. OK, real quick, what's on your
- 28:43dream boards? What's on your dream boards?
- 28:46Just like one thing you would put on your dream board.
- 28:48My book. Your book.
- 28:50Yeah, I have to have that happen.
- 28:53I'm trying really hard. Am I in your book?
- 28:57Not yet, but maybe. Like like, let me rephrase that.
- 29:00How big is the section that I'm in?
- 29:03How big is it? You're going to have to buy a
- 29:05copy just like everybody else. I plan on it.
- 29:10Assuming it ever makes its way to print, but yeah, what about
- 29:13you? It's on your dream board.
- 29:15It's going to happen. Yeah, 10,000 listeners by
- 29:19August. Oh hell yeah, I'll put can I?
- 29:22Can I copy that and put that on my dream board too?
- 29:25Find my dream board. All right, awesome.
- 29:27Love it and if anyone could also call in and let us know how to
- 29:30do that, that would be great that.
- 29:31Would be great. We operators are standing high.
- 29:35I want to have a telephone where it's like hello hello hello
- 29:40answering the phones. All right, are we ready for
- 29:42sticky situation #3 this one? No, because you didn't say
- 29:46what's on your dream board. Oh, good point.
- 29:49Good catch. What is on my dream board?
- 29:53You know, when you ask a question, it's probably good to
- 29:55think about what your answer would be.
- 29:57But. I didn't think about it.
- 29:59I my My dream last year was to make a piece of art that was
- 30:06featured in a gallery and I. Did.
- 30:08And I did that. You did.
- 30:10You did. Yeah.
- 30:12And so I should come up with something for my dream board
- 30:15that's going to be for this year.
- 30:16And I, I have nothing. I haven't thought of anything
- 30:19yet. So I'll have to think about
- 30:20that. Maybe by the end of the episode,
- 30:22OK, I'll I'll think of something.
- 30:24All right, we're we will circle back to you on that.
- 30:28We don't say that on this show. We don't circle back, but I
- 30:32think it's going to have a lot of synergy with what my name is.
- 30:39OK. All right, all right.
- 30:42This last sticky situation before we get into our rapid
- 30:45fire section. Blakely, I can see you tensing
- 30:48up already. Can you?
- 30:50I am. It's so true.
- 30:51I hate the rapid fires but OK. Heather, we, we kind of need you
- 30:55on this last one, I think because it seems like we're kind
- 30:57of getting into like legal territory here.
- 30:59So I'm going to jump right in and just jump in as soon as
- 31:03you're like, hey, don't do that or please do.
- 31:05That like stop saying that, yeah.
- 31:07OK, here we go. OK, this comes in to us.
- 31:11Hi, Heather Blakely and Clay. All right, good.
- 31:18Sign. Two weeks into a new job in my
- 31:22early 20's, the CEO of the company looked at me and told me
- 31:27my religion, Islam, was terrible and that I shouldn't be part of
- 31:32it because. Yeah, how did they know it
- 31:36doesn't matter? Maybe she was he was wearing a
- 31:38hijab or something. OK, go ahead.
- 31:41And that I shouldn't be part of it because they're all terrible
- 31:45people. What?
- 31:47Yeah. Oh my gosh.
- 31:50You know, like surprise, not surprise.
- 31:52People are assholes. I can't, OK.
- 31:54Is that all right? Keep.
- 31:55Keep going this. Is tough, so listener writes.
- 31:59I was completely shook. I didn't know what to say, I
- 32:04didn't know what to do, and honestly, I didn't even fully
- 32:08understand what my options were at the time.
- 32:11Looking back, I wish I had sued. My question is, what do you do
- 32:17when something that wrong comes from the very top?
- 32:22And what would you tell your younger self to do in that
- 32:25moment? I mean, we've talked about the
- 32:30younger self a lot. A lot.
- 32:32And the burn book, The burn book, like my first piece of
- 32:40advice for younger selves is always document date, time,
- 32:46exact words. Was there anyone else in the
- 32:48room who might have heard it? Like you can do that privately,
- 32:51right? You can take time and document
- 32:54something because I know, like in your 20s, I mean, she was
- 32:59shook. Like she probably froze.
- 33:02I can totally see freezing. But you can take a minute and go
- 33:07and document and then you can make a choice.
- 33:11You can take that documentation to HR.
- 33:14You can take that documentation and get some legal advice.
- 33:18I wonder if there's probably some, like maybe even in your
- 33:2120s, like free legal advice. I wonder, Heather, if you know
- 33:24of any free legal advice options out there.
- 33:29I would say though, when you're 20, don't feel pressure to have
- 33:35had like the perfect response to that asshole.
- 33:38It's OK that you did not have a perfect response to that
- 33:41asshole. And don't feel bad that you
- 33:46didn't say anything like, I mean, but your new self, old
- 33:52self, mature self, wiser self, you're ready, right?
- 33:55You're ready and yeah, you're going to sue that ass.
- 33:58And by the way, Heather, I'll let you take over because I want
- 34:00to. What is the statue of
- 34:01limitations on that? Three years.
- 34:05So I think it's, well, I can't. I can't.
- 34:09Well, here I'm going to. Put this the the glasses on.
- 34:11Please do. That way I'm protected.
- 34:14By the fact that these aren't official, this is legal, but not
- 34:18officially legal. OK, OK, Lawyer Heather.
- 34:24Yes. So here's the problem with
- 34:27racist comments. The problem with racist comments
- 34:32in the workplace are that in and of themselves it's very hard to
- 34:39prove that a singular comment is action worthy in a court.
- 34:45It would have to be like so, so, so severe for a single comment.
- 34:51So in that case, that someone's opinion, it is disgusting and
- 34:58it's wrong and it's rude and it's unkind.
- 35:03Whether it's discriminatory depends on whether or not there
- 35:06was adverse employment actions. So something that was happening
- 35:11against you or complaints that weren't founded or you got a
- 35:14different shift than you preferred.
- 35:16I don't know what I mean. At 20, I'm not sure you know,
- 35:18whatever that would have looked like as an adverse employment
- 35:21action in a, in a entry level role, but those actions would
- 35:26have had to follow. And then you would have to trace
- 35:29that back to this person's racism.
- 35:33And so that documentation becomes so important.
- 35:37So you'd have to document exactly what was said.
- 35:39But then in that moment, there's really not a ton you can do
- 35:41other than alert HR. So it's documented in your file.
- 35:45But as a newly hired employee, I can understand why that would be
- 35:48a very scary thing to do. So bigger picture than that is
- 35:53it, that person just showed you who they are.
- 35:56So believe them, don't try to change them, believe them and
- 36:00you start looking for another job and you can complain and
- 36:03night they can deal with that on your way out.
- 36:06But I would not be sticking around for ACEO who was going to
- 36:09make comments against my religion that way directly to my
- 36:13face. It just shows an absolute
- 36:15ineptitude for leadership. And the law, oh, in the three
- 36:20years is that's Michigan law. To be clear, there's all
- 36:23different ones. You are a very wise woman,
- 36:25Heather. Oh, I don't know about that.
- 36:27But beyond that, it's just like, what is wrong with people?
- 36:32Like I, I think the one good thing, I think that could have
- 36:35come out of that situation where at that young age would be to be
- 36:40able to say never again in my presence, right?
- 36:44So they take that situation with them and they go to another
- 36:48company and they find themselves in a position to say, Hey, it's
- 36:51Ramadan. Hey guys.
- 36:53And educating the workforce about it and saying, Hey, let's
- 36:56celebrate this. Hey, we've just invited someone.
- 36:59Our, our Salesforce developer at the law firm is from India and
- 37:04it's Holly Holy Holy Week and they do colors and they have a
- 37:08big festival and we have learned all about it because we took
- 37:11interest and who's on our team and what do they celebrate and
- 37:15what that background is. And so I guarantee you, if you
- 37:18can have that bad experience and you turn it around and then you
- 37:23make sure that every workforce you ever go into has the actual
- 37:26opposite, that's where you can kind of turn it around for good.
- 37:28So I don't think you did anything wrong.
- 37:30I don't think you could go back and do anything differently, but
- 37:33I think you can take that into your future and any employment
- 37:38workforce you're in to change it for good.
- 37:40That's what we have to do. Yeah.
- 37:43And by the way, I love that you're a lawyer and you don't
- 37:47succumb necessarily to sue culture, because here I am like,
- 37:50go to HR, go get free legal advice.
- 37:53But sometimes that's not the answer.
- 37:57Well, it's just, it's a long process, but yeah, you always
- 38:00have to care and ugly to go through, by the way.
- 38:04And then it follows you because it's a small world, no matter
- 38:08how big it is. And if things follow, these are
- 38:11public records. And so you start to sue.
- 38:13It's like, OK, well, you can do a search.
- 38:15And then we always do background checks right when we're hiring
- 38:18people. And then now we're doing social
- 38:19media checks and we're doing Google and it comes up and you
- 38:22can see, OK, this person so and so sued ex company and this, you
- 38:26know, it's not right, but you can't Unsee it.
- 38:29Once you see them, then it's like, oh, are they litigious?
- 38:32Yeah, that's be very careful when you make those decisions.
- 38:35Yeah, yeah. Heather, you're 3 for three
- 38:37today. No. 3 for three.
- 38:40Really, this is teamwork. This is.
- 38:42Oh, I know it's not. This part's not a competition.
- 38:44Truly the dream work. But I've been really impressed
- 38:48with you today. Well, thank you.
- 38:51Speaking of dreams, did you come up with your dream board yet,
- 38:53Clay? I did, I actually did.
- 38:55But before that, shout out to our Muslim friends, Ramadan
- 38:58Mubarak, I hope you have a peaceful Ramadan shout out.
- 39:02It's it's the holy month of Ramadan and it's worth
- 39:06celebrating. So, but I did think of my dream
- 39:10and I, I mean, I was listening, but I, you know, I tried to
- 39:13think of. Not sure if you were, but it was
- 39:15such limitations. I tuned out just a little bit,
- 39:17so I did. Think of something test,
- 39:20Heather. Good test.
- 39:22I tuned out a little bit. My dream for this year is to
- 39:25write a song. I would like to make it in
- 39:27music. OK, if I put you in my book,
- 39:30will you put me in my in your song?
- 39:33Oh my gosh. OK, it's casual.
- 39:40I'm going to go ahead and say yes.
- 39:43I'm going to go ahead and say yes.
- 39:45Let's do it. All right, let's do it.
- 39:46I'll sneak you in there. OK, you know what time it is.
- 39:50It's time for rapid fire. Yay.
- 39:56Blakely's favorite part of the show?
- 39:58This week, we're doing something just a little different.
- 40:03We're doing have you ever yes or no edition is.
- 40:09This obviously. Have you ever?
- 40:10Do you have to do that or? Never have I ever.
- 40:13Never have I ever. Think you're thinking of that.
- 40:15Yeah, maybe I never liked never have I ever because.
- 40:18It's like a double negative, yes, I've never done it or I
- 40:21haven't done it. Yeah, exactly.
- 40:23And then I ended up people. I'm always afraid that I'm going
- 40:26to answer too honestly or like, yeah, totally.
- 40:29OK, So anyway, forget all that. I want you to answer completely
- 40:34honestly. No lying, no secrets, no patents
- 40:37in the basement after work. Bring your full self to this
- 40:41section. There's no buzzing.
- 40:44There's no drinking. The only way we're going to do
- 40:46this is we're going to basically ask, is Blakely being honest or
- 40:50not? OK, here we go.
- 40:52I can't lie. All right, and.
- 40:54Can I just like for clarity, when I had to go pick up the
- 40:58dogs from the member of the dog place, they I was so worried
- 41:03that they would ask me if I had crates at home because I wasn't
- 41:06planning to create that I went and borrowed someone's crates
- 41:10and just put them in my home. So you could say technically
- 41:13yes. Yes, because I cannot lie.
- 41:16But I didn't use the crates, so there, now you know.
- 41:19OK. So everything is the truth.
- 41:22The only time I lie is when I can't remember which is.
- 41:25It's not really a lie. The time.
- 41:27Yeah. I heard somebody say the other
- 41:30day, I don't lie. I just tell truths that change.
- 41:34That's totally true for me. OK, here we go.
- 41:38Have you ever and remember yes or no?
- 41:41OK. Oh.
- 41:43Have you ever rage quit a job? No.
- 41:47No, I wanted to. Me too.
- 41:51But no, we all do, right? Yep, I dream about.
- 41:54Wanted to rage quit a job. But I dream and like, fantasize
- 41:58about like how I would do it but I never did it.
- 42:00All the time. Lots of fantasy.
- 42:02What would it get me? Like what would rage quitting
- 42:04get you? Like it's like.
- 42:06Surge of unbelievable adrenaline.
- 42:09Just amazing sex. Yeah, but it's so temporary,
- 42:13right? So no, we're both too.
- 42:16Pragmatic, You and me, we're not the right ones.
- 42:19You ever seen somebody rage quit though?
- 42:21Yeah, yeah, yes, awesome for. Sure, and we had a guest that
- 42:25rage quit and she's pretty Dang. Linda Herb, I think she's
- 42:29actually done it a couple times. Yeah, so, like, kudos to her.
- 42:32She felt the feeling, but I couldn't do it.
- 42:35Yeah. Like I would just be like, you
- 42:37know what? I quit.
- 42:39I'm out. I'm done.
- 42:41Fuck you. Fuck you.
- 42:43Fuck you. No, I'm just kidding.
- 42:44Don't, don't, don't put in that in there.
- 42:46That's not nice. Even this is a fantasy.
- 42:50It's not real. Oh.
- 42:51OK, it's, I feel like it's happening.
- 42:52Yeah. I'm not supposed to be swearing
- 42:55on the show. You can cut that part out, but I
- 42:57do. Want to do it someday.
- 42:58This is I literally have to. We have to hit the explicit
- 43:01button all the time. So like, just how's the grass?
- 43:04Anything goes. Yeah, leave it on out, take it
- 43:06out. Nope, Leave it on.
- 43:06Take it out. Well, we all still have yet to
- 43:10rage quit a job. OK, next rapid fire.
- 43:14Have you ever cried in a work bathroom?
- 43:17Yes or no? Yes.
- 43:18Yes, like it's the grief counseling center.
- 43:23Like that is what a bathroom is. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 43:27In a bath, like not a private one, like there's other stalls
- 43:30and stuff like there's it's like shared.
- 43:33But for a woman, typically it is the safe space for crying.
- 43:38So you go in there, there's like 6 sinks and you just can't hold
- 43:42it together and you cry and then at least some other woman comes
- 43:45in and sometimes it's your work bestie, but sometimes it's like
- 43:47not your work bestie. But then they console you and
- 43:50like dear dear you're going to be OK.
- 43:51And then they become your work bestie.
- 43:53So it's like. A.
- 43:55Really positive female shared space in my opinion.
- 43:59It's OK to cry men too. I did it.
- 44:02It was the same impact. I did it when we had to do a
- 44:05pretty massive layoff and I couldn't hold it together
- 44:08anymore. And because you have to be so
- 44:09strong for them because it can't be about you.
- 44:13And then it was a long day and then I just, I just ran out and
- 44:16I just bawled my eyes out. Then I put water in my face and
- 44:20went back in because it's got to be strong in there.
- 44:22But like, I just tore my up inside.
- 44:25I was working for a year while my dad had a cancer diagnosis
- 44:29and I cried like all the time. But again, this was my company.
- 44:35I didn't want them to see me like fragile all the time.
- 44:38But I mean, I probably cried every day in there.
- 44:40So I at least you're going to the bathroom, right?
- 44:45And you're not totally like becoming this crying spout.
- 44:49Like if you're crying at your desk every day, like, come on.
- 44:54People. Are going to get.
- 44:55A little worried, yeah. Doesn't instill confidence, does
- 44:59it? No.
- 45:00Why do I feel like other advanced cultures on our planet
- 45:05have like a space for this? That's not like also the place
- 45:08where you go to the bathroom, there's like a crying room or
- 45:11like a like a we. Had a.
- 45:12Wellness Room. We had a Wellness room and
- 45:16everybody made fun of it. I put a massage chair in there.
- 45:19I put like dimly lit, like lights and like a really
- 45:22comfortable couch and a chair. And it was, it was just supposed
- 45:25to be this place where you could go decompress for a little while
- 45:29and then inevitably once in a while people would use it for
- 45:32that purpose. But otherwise it just became a
- 45:34call meeting room and people would be like.
- 45:36That's what every room turns into.
- 45:38It could be in like the breastfeeding room and you're
- 45:41like taking calls, Mr. Boss. We should have a future episode
- 45:46where we talk about like, should we have like a special space for
- 45:50nursing moms or should it be? You have to legal.
- 45:53You have to you have. To Yeah, that's not a.
- 45:56Question. It has to be.
- 45:58Replaced. It has to have a private space
- 46:00that's new. Oh, it's new.
- 46:02OK, because I like I was. I remember watching the.
- 46:04Last 20 years, right? OK, 15 years.
- 46:08Yeah, I mean. I remember watching TV shows and
- 46:10it would be like any workplace sitcom would have that kind of
- 46:14episode where it became like awkward or something happened
- 46:18and I was like, you know, so apparently, yes, the.
- 46:21Law has caught up. But it's super shitty because
- 46:25like you don't have a room in a small business sometimes to do
- 46:29that. So like an art company we had to
- 46:31take over like like this, like server, boiler room and then
- 46:34like. Put a chair in there.
- 46:36I feel so bad for these ladies, they're like stuck in this like
- 46:39server room. Just the the only positive that
- 46:44is saying, well, this is actually where some of the most
- 46:46expensive stuff that we have is you're you're in the most prized
- 46:52room. That's terrible.
- 46:53You're throwing people in a closet.
- 46:54I I feel bad about that. OK, two more and these ones are
- 47:01you might require a little self reflection, so OK.
- 47:05Got. It first one rapid fire.
- 47:08Have you ever taken credit for someone else's work?
- 47:14Probably. No, I would say I've never
- 47:18necessarily done it intentionally, but sometimes,
- 47:21like when you're reporting on a big project, you know, you might
- 47:26say you might take credit even though it was your team.
- 47:29You should say it's your team, but it just depends like the
- 47:31conversation and the flow of it like.
- 47:34I don't know. I haven't take credit for
- 47:36someone else's work, but I have taken credit for someone else's
- 47:40idea. What?
- 47:42Yeah, that seems worse. It probably is worse.
- 47:45What do you mean? I mean, back off.
- 47:49I, I mean, I mean that I can't remember a time when I actually
- 47:56someone did the work and I said, Hey, here's my work, here's
- 47:58this. And it's great.
- 47:59And I did it. But I've there definitely been
- 48:02in like brainstorming sessions where maybe I was at lunch with
- 48:05someone or it came up and we were having conversation and
- 48:07they said, Hey, what if we did it this way?
- 48:09And then the next day I'm in the meeting and I'm like, Hey, what
- 48:11if we did it this way? And so it's like I probably
- 48:16should have said, you know, Ashley had a great idea about
- 48:21this and I obviously try to do better, but I know there's times
- 48:24where I've just kind of put it out there.
- 48:26Then that really takes traction. And I didn't go back and say,
- 48:29hey, by the way, I want to make sure that Ashley gets the credit
- 48:31for that. And then I could have done a
- 48:34better job at that at certain points in my career.
- 48:36I think certain parts of your career is the key there.
- 48:38I feel like in the early part of the career, you were just so
- 48:41desperate for credit. And again, I don't think it was
- 48:44ever intentional or just maybe how the conversation flowed.
- 48:48But in the later part of your career, I'm so desperate for
- 48:51everyone else to get the credit, you know, and so.
- 48:54No, this isn't ACEO. No, no, I'm thinking law firm
- 48:57days. I'm thinking whatever.
- 48:58Like I just. Yeah, I know, but I'm just
- 48:59saying it changes. It evolves, right?
- 49:02Yeah, because you you shift from wanting to stand out to wanting
- 49:09to find out who are the standouts.
- 49:12And here we put it. How do we like, that's a total
- 49:14shift there. Yeah, but it's a shitty thing to
- 49:17do. And I tell you what, as I look
- 49:20at people to see who are the standouts, the standouts are the
- 49:23people who give other people credit for their ideas.
- 49:25I know, isn't that? And then you can see the
- 49:27integrity and be like, OK, great, thanks for raising it and
- 49:30also thanks for giving credit where credit is due.
- 49:32That actually makes you stand out.
- 49:33More. Yeah, I was probably an asshole.
- 49:35Might really occur. I get it.
- 49:37Yeah, I might be an asshole now, but I try not to be.
- 49:39You're not. Thank you.
- 49:41Good question, Clay. Thanks.
- 49:43Last question before we go and this one I, I already know the
- 49:47answer, but I just want to hear we, we just, we got to talk
- 49:50about it. OK, Rapid fire.
- 49:53Have you ever stalked a Co worker's social media?
- 49:59Yes. Of.
- 50:00Course, I'm really good at it actually.
- 50:04What you what? I'm good at it because you know
- 50:06how they can like see who's watching your video?
- 50:10Like I'm really good at like having a dummy one to like go
- 50:13and stalk people. I'm a stalker.
- 50:15You have a fake Instagram. So finsta, I don't know the hip
- 50:21words, but insta, I'm not saying I have a fake e-mail.
- 50:29And so I've used that fake e-mail for all.
- 50:32Sorts of to log into cloud Coach feature release notes.
- 50:36Yes, that's as an example. I have done that.
- 50:40I've done that, yeah. I did it.
- 50:41I just at least I used my own name I think.
- 50:44Probably I just learned my middle name and I'm like they
- 50:47can trace this fast. It was my personal e-mail
- 50:49though. I didn't use like the fucking
- 50:50company e-mail. Yeah.
- 50:53But I do, I do like. I think it's kind of fun, like
- 50:59to see what people are up to. Did you do it in a creepy kind
- 51:01of like wanna like date the guy kind of way or just in like a?
- 51:06Hand done that fun too. Yeah, but that was kind of like
- 51:08pre social media. So like you had to stalk in
- 51:11other ways. At least you're honest.
- 51:17I love that you don't lie. Hey, we're benefiting from this.
- 51:21They make snap mat. So like, like, these kids are
- 51:25already stalking their future boyfriends and future
- 51:27girlfriends. I was just a little bit more
- 51:29stealth about it and like, happened to show up at the
- 51:32coffee shop, right? Very different than now.
- 51:35They're like on a snap mat and they're like, oh, let's drive by
- 51:3710 times, you know, whatever. So yeah, I stacked people, but
- 51:42not like the definition of legal stalking.
- 51:44Yeah. It's just.
- 51:47I, it was more of like a group thing where yes, somebody would
- 51:51like say, hey, have you seen so and so's Instagram?
- 51:55And they like have this whole other life where they're posting
- 51:58these weird videos and dissecting things and singing
- 52:02weird little songs and you're just like, what?
- 52:04And so we're all crowded around a phone going What is happening
- 52:07right now? Oh, I found out we had.
- 52:11We had a contractor that was we struggled with and then we came
- 52:16out to find out their Instagram was a whole polygamy feed and I
- 52:20was like talking about yes. And they were on the TV show.
- 52:25I guess there was like a TV show about like me or something, like
- 52:29it's like a sister wife show and they were on it and I'm like, Oh
- 52:33my gosh, this deal has already gotten so strange.
- 52:36And that's a gold mine. I love that.
- 52:39But that's what I'm telling you. I'm really good at finding those
- 52:42pieces of information out, like it's really fun for.
- 52:45Me. It's public information.
- 52:47It is. You're putting out there.
- 52:49Yeah, yeah. If you find somebody's like, if
- 52:51you discover what someone's username is like on Reddit or
- 52:57something, and then you go through all their old posts and
- 52:59see what they're into it, you get that feeling like you're
- 53:02like a little detective, like you're doing reconnaissance type
- 53:06stuff. Private Eye.
- 53:07Well, I did one that was like, well, no wonder your work has
- 53:10been so shitty. Like, this is what you're doing
- 53:12all day. You know, you can see, like,
- 53:14it's like broad daylight. They're still, like, recording
- 53:17this in the middle of the day. I'm like, this was a Tuesday.
- 53:19Like you should have been working.
- 53:21It does all make sense now. That's so good.
- 53:23It's kind of like when Blakely posts from the gym in the middle
- 53:27of the day and we're like. Where her?
- 53:29Where is she? Why isn't she fine?
- 53:31Why isn't she doing herself? If you're talking about the one
- 53:33post I've done on Instagram, it was like the most ugliest
- 53:36picture of me at the gym. But I did that for you, Heather.
- 53:39Thank. You I appreciate that I can't be
- 53:40the only one ugly out. There looked like I was 90.
- 53:43I was like saggy jowls and I was like dying China.
- 53:46Isn't it free? Isn't it free?
- 53:48No, it cares about. What we are, we're too 50 year
- 53:51old. No one gives a shit if.
- 53:53I know it's fine, that's why I posted it.
- 53:56Whatever, it's like my only post in a year for you.
- 53:59Thank you. I'll take it.
- 54:01OK, listeners, if you have a sticky situation, all of these

- 54:21It will make the show it. Will make the.
- 54:25Show so write to me at not all dot biz submit your sticky
- 54:31situation. It'll be on the show.
- 54:32Thanks for listening. If you also have a response to
- 54:36one of the rapid fires and you're like Blakely Heather,
- 54:38you're totally wrong. I'm off that.
- 54:40Oh, that's could not be normal. Put something in the comments, I
- 54:44want to read it. Maybe I'll read some more on an
- 54:47upcoming episode. Thanks for tuning in.
- 54:50We'll catch you on the next episode next week.
- 54:52Thanks for listening. Are we not smiling?
- 54:56We don't smile on casual Fridays, OK?
- 54:58Sorry, see you next time. See you next time.
- 55:01No smile, no smiles.
