- 0:03Speaker 2: She's on The Money Radio Show.
- 0:07Speaker 1: With Victoria Divine now Saturday morning, right across the country.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Welcome to the She's on the Money Radio Show with
- 0:13Speaker 1: Australia's number one finance podcast of Victoria Divine. It is
- 0:17Speaker 1: you and the other person is Mitch Cherry.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Oh that's me.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Who guys, Oh, we look so cute today.
- 0:26Speaker 2: I just want to get that confession out of you
- 0:28Speaker 2: on the line. Yes, yes, Victoria.
- 0:31Speaker 4: No, absolutely not tell everybody what's going to happen on
- 0:35Speaker 4: the show.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Victoria is going to confess what she said in
- 0:38Speaker 1: the song just then.
- 0:39Speaker 4: I'm absolutely not going to do that because it makes
- 0:41Speaker 4: me look so silly.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Guys, you know what doesn't look silly? I'm unsure I've
- 0:46Speaker 1: lost you this morning. Mate.
- 0:47Speaker 2: You look beautiful.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Thank you?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Oh you do look good.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Something else that looks good today's show because before ten
- 0:53Speaker 1: o'clock we're going to do Super Save a Saturday, Victoria.
- 0:57Speaker 4: That is one of my favorite segments, arguably my favorite segment,
- 1:00Speaker 4: and it's a segment where I give you some sneaky
- 1:02Speaker 4: tips on how to keep the most amount of money
- 1:04Speaker 4: in your bank account.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Some won't say tight. I was going to say the
- 1:06Speaker 1: eight word, but probably can't.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Say yeah kind of in a way.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they are Saturday.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I also like yourself. Thank you. What's coming up
- 1:17Speaker 1: in the next fifteen minutes? Money matters, Mitch.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yes, So if you're struggling with your cash flow and
- 1:22Speaker 2: you've got yourself into a bit of a sticky situation,
- 1:23Speaker 2: you need some advice. That's what Victoria is here for.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You can hit us up on the shoes on the
- 1:27Speaker 2: money socials this week, though, it's very interesting conundrum. What
- 1:31Speaker 2: should you do if a friend hits you up for
- 1:33Speaker 2: a loan? Because it can be a very all good situation.
- 1:35Speaker 2: We've all been there.
- 1:36Speaker 3: This is so spicy. I have so many.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Opinions right now, it's time to do this. Yeah, we
- 1:47Speaker 1: thought we'd relive those days back when we were teenage
- 1:49Speaker 1: dirt banks, when we had absolutely no money, but we
- 1:52Speaker 1: still lived our best lives. So thirty one six five,
- 1:55Speaker 1: give us a call right now. How did you used
- 1:57Speaker 1: to stretch your money back when you were a teenager?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Now Packers has given us a call. How were you
- 2:02Speaker 1: a teenage dirt bag?
- 2:03Speaker 2: What did you do?
- 2:04Speaker 1: I remember going to get two dollar pots on a Tuesday.
- 2:07Speaker 5: Oh, that was a winner.
- 2:09Speaker 3: That just sounds like a good deal.
- 2:11Speaker 4: All right.
- 2:12Speaker 2: We did ask them to call call us with your.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I definitely respect that, Pa, because you seem like the
- 2:17Speaker 1: kind of guy that would still do that. Is there
- 2:19Speaker 1: any establishments around that have anywhere near a two dollar pot?
- 2:22Speaker 1: I think if you hunt the local bowler, you might
- 2:24Speaker 1: slip a couple of cheap pots down there.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But yeah, when I think Victoria Devine, I think hanging
- 2:28Speaker 2: out on the corner of a local bowler, That's what
- 2:30Speaker 2: I wow, Victoria.
- 2:33Speaker 1: All right, thanks packers, no worries.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Guys, that was your guy Abby.
- 2:36Speaker 1: On thirteen one o six y five. Tell us how
- 2:38Speaker 1: did you make your money go further when you were up?
- 2:44Speaker 5: Okay, So I was about like fifteen or sixteen, and
- 2:48Speaker 5: I used to buy pretty much whatever I wanted at
- 2:50Speaker 5: the shop.
- 2:51Speaker 1: But you're a rich Ridge, okay fifteen?
- 2:54Speaker 2: No?
- 2:54Speaker 5: No, you wait. I always kept the tags on that
- 3:00Speaker 5: I would go out and then I would wear it,
- 3:02Speaker 5: and then I would try my very best to return it.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Oh did it work?
- 3:07Speaker 5: Like it worked? But I lived in Shear. I had
- 3:11Speaker 5: like industrial strength deodorant. I couldn't get anything on it.
- 3:14Speaker 5: It was like, I don't even know if it was
- 3:16Speaker 5: worth it.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I can just imagine Abby, like you walk part, you
- 3:19Speaker 1: go to give her a hug.
- 3:20Speaker 3: You were like, get away from me.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Also, what if someone saw the tag, Abby, Like if
- 3:25Speaker 2: someone said to you hate You've still got the tag,
- 3:27Speaker 2: I'm just going to reap it off. Oh god, yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 2: you'd freak out.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Oh my god, I had. All my friends were in
- 3:32Speaker 5: on it too. They were like monitoring my tax situation
- 3:34Speaker 5: the whole time.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Did anything ever happen?
- 3:36Speaker 4: No?
- 3:36Speaker 5: I was so lucky. Although one time, like obviously when
- 3:39Speaker 5: you're sixteen, you go into these stores and they like
- 3:42Speaker 5: suck you out, they look you up and down.
- 3:43Speaker 4: They don't you know, as someone who used to work
- 3:46Speaker 4: in retail, we know they still do that to me now.
- 3:49Speaker 5: But the best part was so that, like the people
- 3:52Speaker 5: behind the counter were also usually sixteen, so they probably
- 3:54Speaker 5: couldn't care less.
- 3:55Speaker 4: You know, they really don't as long as you're not rude.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I think that they'll do anything, but may anxiety would
- 4:00Speaker 4: peak just because I'm the clutziest person in the entire world.
- 4:03Speaker 4: I could not buy a dress and not get something
- 4:05Speaker 4: on it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Look at your sheet now, mate. I didn't want to
- 4:08Speaker 1: say anything.
- 4:09Speaker 3: It's not my fault. And I keep wearing white. I
- 4:12Speaker 3: do it to myself.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Bring it on yourself for sure. All right, thanks.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Abby, Thank you guys.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Now, brad on thirty one or sixty five, you're going
- 4:19Speaker 1: to get along with Victoria with yours mates. Hey go, guys,
- 4:23Speaker 1: this goes back to yeah, you're just in your teenage days,
- 4:26Speaker 1: but going back and buying the old four lad of
- 4:28Speaker 1: one cast I reckon you can pick them up best.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Friends exactly, Pretty Lexia, it makes you sexier.
- 4:34Speaker 5: Pretty Lexi. Mozelle was my guy with a couple of
- 4:37Speaker 5: lays of fatners.
- 4:40Speaker 2: A nice mixer.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Back in those days, the only air you needed was
- 4:46Speaker 5: to blow up the cask at the end of the
- 4:47Speaker 5: night for a piller.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I definitely didn't get the four Leaders, but I definitely
- 4:52Speaker 4: did put lemonade and ic in it.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Because class, Victoria, divine equals class. That's what I think of. Anyway,
- 5:00Speaker 1: it is time for this.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Each week we're going to bring you someone's financial
- 5:05Speaker 2: story on ed to get Victoria's advice on what they
- 5:07Speaker 2: should do. And it's a real broad stretch here. We
- 5:09Speaker 2: had a four year old one week, twelve months old
- 5:12Speaker 2: the other asking for finance. My love Victoria you've got
- 5:14Speaker 2: such a wide audience, is key.
- 5:17Speaker 3: It's who I am as a purse.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Anyway, let's answer Holly's question. Holly sent this in too.
- 5:21Speaker 2: She's on the money social. She said, one of my
- 5:22Speaker 2: friends recently hit me up for a loan. He's going
- 5:25Speaker 2: through a bit of a tough time and has asked
- 5:26Speaker 2: me for one thousand bucks to help tide him over
- 5:29Speaker 2: for a while. His promised still pay it back within
- 5:31Speaker 2: the next few months. I really want to help him out,
- 5:33Speaker 2: but I'm cautious should I give him the loan? Do
- 5:35Speaker 2: I need to draw up a written agreement to protect myself?
- 5:38Speaker 2: What's the best way to go about this?
- 5:40Speaker 4: What do you think? Victoria actually so hard when friends
- 5:43Speaker 4: ask for money. And my approach to this is, obviously,
- 5:46Speaker 4: if you're not in the financial situation to be able
- 5:48Speaker 4: to afford that, the answer is like, sorry, I actually
- 5:50Speaker 4: can't help. But if you are and that's something you
- 5:53Speaker 4: want to do, I would actually really question whether that's
- 5:56Speaker 4: a good idea or not. So when someone asks you
- 6:00Speaker 4: for money, from my perspective, you're going to lose one
- 6:02Speaker 4: of two things.
- 6:03Speaker 3: You're either going to lose a friendship or the money.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Which one is sometimes even both.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Sometimes even both. So we need to be really clear
- 6:10Speaker 3: on if I lean Tra have one.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Thousand bucks, Like from my perspective, you kind of have
- 6:15Speaker 4: to feel a bit that you're not going to get
- 6:17Speaker 4: it back.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Obviously trying you can put a written agreement.
- 6:19Speaker 4: In place and do that, but I would really be
- 6:22Speaker 4: potentially trying to help your friend in a different way
- 6:25Speaker 4: and saying like, all right, Travs, sit down, I know
- 6:28Speaker 4: you need a thousand dollars, Like, maybe there's another way
- 6:30Speaker 4: we can get it. It shouldn't come from me as
- 6:32Speaker 4: a friend, like maybe looking into resources that could help them,
- 6:36Speaker 4: maybe having a look at the National Debt Helpline, which
- 6:38Speaker 4: I'm obsessed with because they are really good eggs doing well.
- 6:40Speaker 2: It's a debt help line. What's that.
- 6:42Speaker 3: It's essentially a National debt helpline that you can call.
- 6:45Speaker 3: It is free.
- 6:45Speaker 4: There are financial counselors on there. They can give you
- 6:48Speaker 4: access to things like NILS loans. So NILS loans is
- 6:51Speaker 4: a loan that has no interest attached to it, So
- 6:54Speaker 4: that could be a really good option instead of borrowing
- 6:56Speaker 4: cash from a friend. And often when people are borrowing
- 6:59Speaker 4: cash from friends, it's because they just feel like they're
- 7:01Speaker 4: rock in a hard place, right, They just don't know
- 7:04Speaker 4: what their options are. And no one wants to ask
- 7:06Speaker 4: their mate for a thousand bucks like that makes you
- 7:08Speaker 4: feel kind of bad. So you don't want to be
- 7:10Speaker 4: in a situation where that's happening. But if a friend goes,
- 7:13Speaker 4: all right, well mate, if you need money, great, let's
- 7:15Speaker 4: work it out. There are so many options out there
- 7:18Speaker 4: to support you. I would really steer away from lending
- 7:21Speaker 4: money to friends.
- 7:22Speaker 2: That's good advice. I got the kind of friend that
- 7:24Speaker 2: goes if you ever need anything, especially after like a
- 7:26Speaker 2: couple of you know, Voker Granbery's if you need anything,
- 7:29Speaker 2: if you're ever in a tight spot, I've got you.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And then when they actually come asking, I disappear like,
- 7:34Speaker 2: oh I can't. I mean, it's a bad.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Spot on but it's it's so nice to be that
- 7:37Speaker 4: friend that can support. But what is going on here
- 7:41Speaker 4: is actually if they're in a bit of a pickle
- 7:43Speaker 4: and you're helping them out, It's kind of like the
- 7:45Speaker 4: if you give a fish to somebody, they'll eat for
- 7:47Speaker 4: a day, but if you teach them to fish, they'll
- 7:49Speaker 4: fish for a lifetime or whatever.
- 7:50Speaker 2: They wow put that on a tea tabe.
- 7:55Speaker 4: There was a Bible quote, so we're not going to
- 7:57Speaker 4: go with that. I just know what, just went to
- 7:58Speaker 4: Catholic school for twelve But it's one of those things
- 8:01Speaker 4: where it's like, can I actually teach you a skill?
- 8:03Speaker 3: Can I give you a bit more financial literacy?
- 8:05Speaker 4: Like if you need one thousand dollars, here's a better
- 8:08Speaker 4: way to do it, or here's a loan scheme that
- 8:10Speaker 4: might put you in the best possible position. I'd obviously
- 8:12Speaker 4: try and steer away from things that are like buy now,
- 8:15Speaker 4: pay later, because that's going to put people in a
- 8:17Speaker 4: worse offt position. I'd also really steer away from recommending
- 8:20Speaker 4: they get a credit card, because that could absolutely spiral
- 8:23Speaker 4: out of control. But what is in your breadth of control?
- 8:26Speaker 4: Like the National Debt Helpline has a whole heap of resources.
- 8:30Speaker 4: I would absolutely go down that route. And I know
- 8:31Speaker 4: this has gone a little bit more serious, but we've
- 8:33Speaker 4: all been asked for money at some point somehow from someone,
- 8:37Speaker 4: and I think actually serving back with education and going
- 8:39Speaker 4: all right, well, how are we going to do this,
- 8:41Speaker 4: Like how am I going to put you in a
- 8:42Speaker 4: better position instead of just giving you the money so
- 8:45Speaker 4: you can continue bad habits.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Well, that's a lot better advice than what I had,
- 8:48Speaker 1: because I was just going to say, because that fits
- 8:54Speaker 1: perfectly with what we're going to do next. Here it
- 8:56Speaker 1: sees on the Money radio show. Well done, Trav. You're
- 8:59Speaker 1: really good at this radio thing. If you have ever
- 9:02Speaker 1: looked through Facebook Marketplace, Mitchell talking to you and you're thinking, Hey,
- 9:07Speaker 1: this person asking way too much for this.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Oh, that happens to me weekly. I go off at
- 9:12Speaker 2: them in the messages and they never apply it.
- 9:14Speaker 4: I've seen your item that I would like to purchase
- 9:16Speaker 4: online for a little while, I'll undercut you. I'll be like,
- 9:19Speaker 4: oh are you to Oh godcha, you would only worth
- 9:22Speaker 4: what someone's willing to pay traps.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I think somebody very wise told you that just
- 9:27Speaker 1: before I.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Was during the break this is she's on the.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Money radio show.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Honestly, Mitch, you are very good at Facebook Marketplace.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 9:39Speaker 4: But I want to know what have you seen recently
- 9:42Speaker 4: on Facebook Marketplace that makes you want to pick up
- 9:44Speaker 4: the phone and go your dreaming.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well, let me just say I'll start by saying I
- 9:48Speaker 2: am a happy messenger. If someone is putting something on
- 9:50Speaker 2: Facebook Marketplace and they're hiking up the price. I'll message
- 9:52Speaker 2: them and I'll go, hey, mate, your dreaming, that's ridiculous price.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Then I'll block them and disappear.
- 9:56Speaker 4: So can you planning on purchasing the item or are
- 9:59Speaker 4: you just feedback? Now?
- 10:02Speaker 2: The other other day for a wooden giraffe was after
- 10:04Speaker 2: a thousand bucks? Mate, you are dreaming. She didn't want
- 10:07Speaker 2: to buy it.
- 10:07Speaker 1: What would you pay for a wooden giraffe? Just quietly,
- 10:10Speaker 1: if you're not dreaming, wouldn't.
- 10:11Speaker 3: You pay for a wooden That's right.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Right, right, that's just it's a state of mind. But
- 10:14Speaker 2: we have a whole bunch of that iphune. I found
- 10:16Speaker 2: this one, right, This is a white iPhone Success sixty
- 10:18Speaker 2: four gigabyte unlocked. Right, this is three hundred.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Bucks saying I'm not going to say I agree or
- 10:24Speaker 4: disagree with that, because I don't know what a white
- 10:26Speaker 4: iPhone six is actually worth.
- 10:27Speaker 2: That is like a ten year old phone.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Oh so that's not good? No, okay, bad deal? So
- 10:32Speaker 3: maybe just tell them their dream.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Dream?
- 10:36Speaker 3: What have you got, trav? I believe you found something
- 10:39Speaker 3: pretty gross?
- 10:40Speaker 1: Okay, So toothbrush. First of all, there's a whole lot
- 10:44Speaker 1: of questions to one pack. There but used only once,
- 10:48Speaker 1: apparently five bucks stealing the original packaging. Mind you, price
- 10:54Speaker 1: is firm five bucks, not going to move. No weirdos
- 10:58Speaker 1: weirdos than you do.
- 11:00Speaker 3: You know what confuses me?
- 11:01Speaker 4: It says used once, but it's quite clearly still in
- 11:03Speaker 4: the packet.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Mate, Is that what you're selling it? Because you don't
- 11:06Speaker 3: know how to use a toothbrush?
- 11:09Speaker 5: Dreamer.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I'd also like to know what Trav's looking up me.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Why? Yeah, the algorithm knows that that man wants a toothbrush.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, what have you found? Victoria?
- 11:20Speaker 2: Quick?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Move on?
- 11:22Speaker 4: Well, actually, I was going to bring up a topic
- 11:24Speaker 4: that I think will trigger a few people, and that's
- 11:27Speaker 4: the topic of limited edition things that you got for
- 11:29Speaker 4: free at KOLs A Wooly.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know when you got like those mini
- 11:33Speaker 4: groceries or the ushy things. So I looked up on
- 11:35Speaker 4: ushi I am going to sell this year, all right,
- 11:38Speaker 4: Sit down, TRAbs, Sit down, Mitch. We've got an ultra
- 11:41Speaker 4: rare glitter woody ushy. Yeah, limited edition, brand new mint
- 11:45Speaker 4: condition doesn't come with his packaging, but he is fifteen
- 11:49Speaker 4: hundred dollars.
- 11:50Speaker 3: No what you got that for free? So sit down, Dreamer.
- 11:56Speaker 4: I also found another one, guys, which I just think
- 11:59Speaker 4: is a bit rich or maybe a little bit niche. Right,
- 12:02Speaker 4: So this is a Finding Nemo stuffed toy.
- 12:05Speaker 3: It is a really big one.
- 12:06Speaker 4: It's one meter long sixty five centimeters high according to
- 12:09Speaker 4: your original seller.
- 12:10Speaker 3: It's also very cuddly.
- 12:12Speaker 4: But it looks like that one you got at the
- 12:14Speaker 4: Melbourne show for free? Why are you selling it to
- 12:17Speaker 4: me for one hundred and fifty dollars dreamer?
- 12:21Speaker 1: They one hundred percent got that at moonber in Melbourne
- 12:23Speaker 1: because it says they're in Melbourne.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, that was free. Why are you trying to
- 12:27Speaker 4: profit off a children's toy?
- 12:29Speaker 1: I mean, hey, you probably spent way over one hundred
- 12:31Speaker 1: and fifty bucks trying to win it, but still telling
- 12:34Speaker 1: me dreaming man right in the bin. That's way more
- 12:37Speaker 1: fun when we do it.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Super save a Saturday.
- 12:42Speaker 4: All right? This week I am bringing you a bang
- 12:44Speaker 4: up from the Sheese on the Money podcast because I
- 12:46Speaker 4: always ask people like, what's your tips and tricks? I
- 12:49Speaker 4: want to know, and people write into us each and
- 12:51Speaker 4: every single week what their money wins of the week are.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Like on Mondays, we post a thread in our Facebook
- 12:57Speaker 4: group and it goes off like hundreds, if not thousand,
- 13:00Speaker 4: of comments of people being like I saved money like this,
- 13:02Speaker 4: or I did this, or I did that, or some
- 13:03Speaker 4: people are even like, oh my god, money lost this week.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I've seen that on the Facebook grip.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I spent seventeen thousand dollars on oubreachs.
- 13:11Speaker 1: So but the good thing with that is you're saving
- 13:14Speaker 1: time because you're working smart and not hard at getting
- 13:16Speaker 1: other people.
- 13:18Speaker 4: I am actually a content genius. But the thing there
- 13:22Speaker 4: is it's not just for the content guys. It means
- 13:24Speaker 4: I don't even have to look up money saving hacks
- 13:27Speaker 4: so that I can save money. And this week someone
- 13:30Speaker 4: told me that they booked a holiday by buying gift
- 13:34Speaker 4: cards but using shop back, which is a platform that
- 13:37Speaker 4: you can use to get cash back on your purchases.
- 13:40Speaker 4: But they bought their gift cards through shop back, got
- 13:42Speaker 4: five percent cash back, and then booked their own holiday
- 13:46Speaker 4: with a five percent discount on the travel gift cards
- 13:48Speaker 4: they'd bought.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Yeah, what a genius.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Yeah, some people are just way too smart with this stuff.
- 13:53Speaker 4: But these cash back apps like shop back are genius.
- 13:56Speaker 4: It's money back on purchases you were going to make anyway,
- 13:59Speaker 4: and you guys know, I do have a good relationship
- 14:01Speaker 4: with them, but this is definitely not sponsored. I'm just
