- 0:21SPEAKER_03: Shit.
- 0:22SPEAKER_03: I remembered to push the button.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: Kaylee went ahead and made sure that we that we were explicitly from the gates.
- 0:32SPEAKER_05: It's been a Monday.
- 0:33SPEAKER_05: We're filming on a Monday.
- 0:34SPEAKER_05: It is a Monday.
- 0:35SPEAKER_05: It is a Monday.
- 0:36SPEAKER_05: We're a little uh discombobble.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: A little challenged today, but that's okay.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: We're gonna get the ground running.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we are.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: Um we're here, we're started.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Kaylee got a sitter today to be here to be here with us.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Let's go.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're making sacrifices.
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: We are to make the podcast work.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Um it's been a few minutes since we last spoke.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: Last was Dimitri um on the pod.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he was great.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: He had some great feedback.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's just so insightful.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 1:03SPEAKER_05: I want to post more of his videos too.
- 1:05SPEAKER_05: He had such a beautiful message.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, any any news for you?
- 1:10SPEAKER_05: Uh what's going on?
- 1:11SPEAKER_05: I have a son who's like starting to talk, which is really fun.
- 1:14SPEAKER_05: Um, I've been home with him.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: No, he's like saying words.
- 1:18SPEAKER_05: Nice, nice.
- 1:18SPEAKER_05: It's amazing.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Mom, where's the meatloaf?
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: That kind of shit.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: I mean, like energetically, he says that all the time.
- 1:25SPEAKER_05: Um, I I got to spend this weekend home alone with him, which I never get alone time with him because my wife is always there, and then I'm the one who's always out showing homes and stuff.
- 1:37SPEAKER_05: And it's just been really wonderful to have alone time, to be bonding with him.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: And I feel like I did a retreat a couple weeks ago that allowed me to really like shed some stuff.
- 1:49SPEAKER_05: And before, if it was me alone with him, I would be so anxious about like being on my phone, communicating with my clients.
- 1:56SPEAKER_05: Oh my God, I gotta do this.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: And just the anxiety really prevented me from being able to just be with him.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: And since that retreat, this being the first time, it was so wonderful.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Like we've been hanging out.
- 2:08SPEAKER_05: I can tolerate him.
- 2:09SPEAKER_05: I don't feel this like irritation or anxiety with needing to be, you know, working, but can't because you have a toddler.
- 2:16SPEAKER_05: And um, you're becoming a mother.
- 2:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:19SPEAKER_05: Like a very well-balanced mother in the sense of, you know, for now, I know it all changes.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: And to recognise and to recognize, I think that's really important because it is.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: It's it's really easy to let let work and all those things take priority.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: And and, you know, and it's it's everyone says it's so cliche when you look back, none of that shit mattered.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: Literally.
- 2:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: Very cool.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: I'm glad you're uh glad you're falling into your groove.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: I mean, not that you were not a great mother already, but that's awesome.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: Oh, thank you.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, it's it's hard to balance, but um it feels good.
- 2:50SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 2:51SPEAKER_05: So what about you?
- 2:52SPEAKER_05: Kids, wife, where are we at?
- 2:53SPEAKER_05: How's life?
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, well, let's see.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: We've got uh 20-year anniversary coming up on the 5th of August.
- 3:00SPEAKER_05: Oh, are you guys doing anything big?
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: Do people throw parties at that age?
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: You're whatever.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: No, we don't have plans.
- 3:07SPEAKER_05: Like um What is that considered?
- 3:09SPEAKER_05: Is that like your silver clue?
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: No clue.
- 3:12SPEAKER_05: Um I know I'm asking the wrong person here.
- 3:14SPEAKER_05: You're asking the wrong person.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Um I mean, yeah, like I I joked when when on our 18th anniversary, I was like, our marriage is an adult now.
- 3:22SPEAKER_04: You know, so yeah, you're about to be legal drinking.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Our marriage can almost have a drink legally.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: Um kids are uh uh high school volleyball starting to pick back up, uh survive club tryouts and all that gloriousness for volleyball.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: My son's baseball is starting to pick back up.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I mean we're kind of we've had a few weekends of doldrums.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: So, yeah, it's like before they get back in school when they play at that level.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so club gets a little wild because they like try out for their club team before high school.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: And it's the way like all these dead periods and everything work.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: Like there's blackouts, it's very, it's you guys wouldn't be interested to hear about it.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: Just know it's a pain in the ass.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Uh so they try out for their club team and then they go play high school, and then at the end of the high school season, they fall into club.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: So you just keep your fingers crossed that obviously no one gets hurt, right?
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: You know, nothing crazy happens.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Um, and then you're off and running.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: And you know, club, club volleyball season is always a blur.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: High school's a lot of fun.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: You get to kind of celebrate the the school, you know, the name on the front.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Um it's fun.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: We have, you know, obviously we'll we have a we have a my daughter's club director coming up on a future episode, so we're gonna dive into that.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: So we'll save all the questions for that.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: We'll pull back the curtain then.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: So um, anyways, enough about us.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: Um, we've already wasted a bunch of Bobby's time.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Bobby.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: We do apologize for everybody who like loves all the video content that we produce.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: We don't have any for this episode.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: We had a snap today.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: But Bobby promised he was gonna bring it because he works in the world of flipping properties.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: Um, he's probably got some amazing stories.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, his social media stuff of the the houses that he buys um on TV are amazing.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: So without further ado, let's uh let's get him played in and we'll hit the ground running here.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: This was the intro song for the HBO show Ballers.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: I like this.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: The one and only.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: Bobby buys homes.
- 5:39SPEAKER_05: Bobby Peterson!
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: Oh no, thanks for having me guys for the generation like myself that still watches TV, dude pops up on my commercial breaks every now and then.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I know that guy! Like, so you know, you you and Ryan Lundquist are like two of my most famous friends.
- 5:53unknown: Ryan.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: We have another local celeb in the house.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: D-less celebrity, maybe D-less beyond the D.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: Uh so Bobby and I actually go back to the gosh, man, 20 years.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: 12 years.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: 13 days back on Sacramento YPN.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was thinking about that.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: We um I a picture popped up recently about when the um the time that we did the paintballing.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Like that the the the combination of the uh Chris Bauman in a suit running around in dress shoe loafers, oh yeah, tagging everybody with a paintball gun.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: That was a good sign.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: Amazing.
- 6:32SPEAKER_03: There was there was that was that was a crew.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: Uh I mean Isom, Preston, yourself, Anthony James, Anthony James, you know.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was a good one.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: That was amazing.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: That was I mean, so many of my my core relationships in that in that real estate side of things were were born of that group.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: So Amber was on the squad.
- 6:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:57SPEAKER_05: I would join if all these people came back, I would join YPN again.
- 7:00SPEAKER_05: Maybe we'll do a reunion paintball to the case.
- 7:02SPEAKER_05: A reunion would be fun, man.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: Like those are still like staple relationships that are all very successful in different managers.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: And now, and now and now that's actually a perfect segue because at that time you were you were doing insurance.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: And that was kind of your we were talking about this a little bit before the show, so I told you we'd lead us to the to there here.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: That was kind of your introduction to real estate and how it works.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: So the first question on the board, obviously, you know, is your story.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: How did you how'd you get started?
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: How did how'd you get into all this?
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: And so let it rip, dude.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, thanks again for having me.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, getting started was uh an interesting story to look back on now.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: It's been uh about 14 years since encountering a number of the relationships, 13 years.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah, got out of uh Chico State and and looking for any job back in 2012, and insurance was the only thing that that wanted me, I guess.
- 7:58SPEAKER_02: And uh started doing that.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: I I felt I applied for 30, 40 jobs, and uh I was striking out left and right.
- 8:04SPEAKER_05: I just want to say I think that says more about the insurance world than it does.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I I think so.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: Well, the job market wasn't amazing in in 2012.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's right.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: I don't think I didn't know I didn't know that you were a wildcat.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: I didn't know Chico State.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think Wildcat man was seven.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: We had Matt Sorrow on as well, who's a commercial multiple.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: You know Matt Sorrow?
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's uh he's selling one of my commercial properties right now.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: And Matt was and Matt was talking about how you know the job fare at Chico State was a Wildcat too.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: He is makes sense.
- 8:33SPEAKER_05: There's a certain energy that feels like if a beer pong table came out at any moment, you guys would dominate.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: They're Chico State alumni, I'm not playing them in a drinking game, it's just not happening.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: We had to overcome some drinking times.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: It allowed me to be good at networking.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: I think that you know what did I do at Chico?
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: And I think back, I was like, did I learn much?
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Maybe.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Did I learn how to like socialize and network and small talk and maybe uncomfortable scenarios uh at a bar or something like that?
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: That's amazing, right?
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: Like as now, like I mean, you guys are in your 30s, I'm in my mid-40s.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: Like, those are actually the life skills that you needed.
- 9:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right.
- 9:12SPEAKER_05: Like it's insane how many people don't know how to do something like that.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: My history degree does not do me much good on the daily, but like all the shit that I learned, how to talk to people and be on a team and punctuality and how to show up was what I really learned in college.
- 9:26SPEAKER_05: How to have a rough night, but still get there and show up the next morning.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, be a little hungover and still go to the open house or whatever it is, and look at a little smile and make conversations with strangers.
- 9:38SPEAKER_05: These are important successful skills in real estate.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: But I mean, that really helped like prompt me and and how I met you and and a bunch of other people, but going, joining, joining the networking group, joining YPN.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Uh, there's another group called 2030, and uh just getting in front of people and honestly at the time probably drank a lot more than how those events are run today.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: But they were one, a lot of fun, and two, like helped you advance and create relationships that are helping you get to the next level and so I do I want to I wanna I wanna I want to diverge just to just a hair because you touched on something that I've wanted to talk about.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: Do you feel like and and this is kind of putting you on the spot?
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: So answer it if you want or not, but like when we were doing that in our mid and late 20s, getting our careers started and going down this road versus now, because I feel like there aren't as many people that are like as socially active and pushing the envelope and trying to do things in that space now.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: So like when you say it's different now than it was then, like do you think what what do you think is the difference?
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: Is it a different type of person?
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: Is it a different type of networking?
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: I think, well, one, I don't think people drink as much as they used to, or a lot of people's like you go to those events, like people were getting hammered.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: We saw some things at Cradas on the river.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Like there was 200 people there.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Again, Bauman's jumping in the river in a suit.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: Like there were some tops coming off.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: It's a little wild.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: Um, but I think that's definitely slowed down.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: I think there's more health news or information, like there's like that whole stroke sober curious movement.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: There's a movement for sure.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: So I don't, you know, get after obviously.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: I was mid-20s getting out of college.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: I was like, this is great.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: This like translates so well from Chico.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Left Chico and came to Chico.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: I fit right in.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: I've been doing this for the yeah.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: So easy.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: This is how I meet people.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: It was fun.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: But I think uh the networking scene, I mean for one, like you know, I I have younger kids, I got a four and five-year-old.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, you got a I'm not sure.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: 15 months.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: 15 month old.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: Like it's harder, you know, obviously to get out, like in your whatever 30s you're in, versus in the 20s, no obligation, no commitments, no spouse.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Like it was, I went to I don't know, I try to go to two-ish networking events a week.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: And it was, I was going to Placer YPN, SAC YPNs, I'd go to Metro Edge, Young Professional, various different networking events, and that a thousand percent helped me become uh a a name or a staple in some capacity for real estate.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: And yes, it translated from I was an insurance, so I networked with realtors and lenders to get in homeowner insurance referrals.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: And then that fizzled, didn't work out, had some diversity failed, and then got my real estate license.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: And you'd think networking with all these vendors and realtors wouldn't uh make an impact and a and a difference, but it did.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Again, I mentioned Chris Bauman a couple times, but he would give me referrals.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: Um, I can think of Matt Couge and these different lenders that I made relationships with.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: I became known as like, oh, this guy's got uh uh investment opportunities, off-market deals, whatever it is, like I created that niche to be in the uh investing space.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: Even before I started flipping a lot, I still had opportunities.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: So Kevin McDonald, like all these people, like I've sold deals to a lot of our peers, right?
- 13:02SPEAKER_02: And that helped me uh set myself apart, and then they would refer stuff back, like, hey, you got somebody.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: So like uh the ground and the world was was was set with these networking opportunities, and it still uh plays a role.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: I've I've done a couple deals with with Kevin McDonald here um just the past 12 months.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: I could think of a number of other people that uh it's networking and and the relationships that I created 12 and 14 years ago, and I don't have the time.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: So in in in in theory, I I worry uh uh some of the insecurities like, oh, I'm not out there.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: I'm not uh as front and center, there's a new the changing of the guard, obviously with YPN and and these different groups, but um I'm still creating the relationships and finding different ways to stay in front of people.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: But I think you have built that brand sustainability, right?
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: Like 10 years of doing it has resonated with a lot of people.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: And sure, maybe not being at two events a week is is you're missing some opportunities, but I think that the the network is is speaking for itself.
- 14:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but you're also showing up in different ways now, right?
- 14:03SPEAKER_05: Like we were talking, like you're on commercials on local networks, you're sending out mailers like the deal we just did.
- 14:10SPEAKER_05: My seller had your mailer on the table, and he's like, Yeah, this guy.
- 14:14SPEAKER_05: I'm like, well, let's call him right now.
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: That's when I called you.
- 14:16SPEAKER_05: So uh first of all, thank you.
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: That was impressive.
- 14:18SPEAKER_05: He's like, have his number.
- 14:20SPEAKER_05: I was like, yeah, he's like a real dude.
- 14:22SPEAKER_05: Um but I think that just it's it's an evolution.
- 14:26SPEAKER_05: Like we can't always show up the way that we did when we were young and had no other obligations and responsibilities, but your vis your business has evolved and so has your visibility to the public, which is awesome.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think uh a lot of people will see me at the gym.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: I do uh do the advertising on TV commercials, and uh a lot of people are working out midday when they see me.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: And and it's both, like as you said, like yes, uh I've I've created some relationships with with people in our industry, and then yes, we we do some mail, we do uh online leads, we get TV leads.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: And I think the message I'm trying to connect with uh referral partners and realtors is like, look, uh, we are more probably marketing to your seller, like let's work together so we can obviously they trust you.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Uh they they may not trust investors as much, but how do we bridge that gap?
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: They may be getting a a piece of some sort of marketing from us.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: Let's work it together where you guys get paid and you could work with us and hopefully uh move the needle forward and try to help this seller in whatever capacity they're they're they're kind of dealing with.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: I appreciated it.
- 15:30SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 15:30SPEAKER_03: And also, do you so do you have is there like a defining moment like that kind of puts you where you are right now?
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: Um in your in in over the past.
- 15:39SPEAKER_05: So when you first started real estate, you were doing like traditional just resell, right?
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: To an extent, yeah.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: Uh uh Dan knows uh uh I think uh Chris McPhail, I don't know if you remember him.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he he was around YPN, it wasn't on the board, but uh uh when I when I flunked out of insurance essentially, I I did well and get in the business, but it was challenging to start running a bus.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: I I was at Liberty Mutual and then I got uh my own company and then uh didn't work out well.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: So then I transitioned to to real estate and and Chris was um uh his company was three-point real estate, so he did property management, he owned rentals, he was uh he flipped houses and then he did traditional sales.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: So I uh being 26 or 27 at the time, I didn't have people that were buying real estate at that age.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: So I was finding off-market distress properties for him.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: And it just kind of evolved.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: It um uh started finding deals for him, this other guy, uh uh Garrett that I know well, and uh seeing them being the mentors, and then realizing, yeah, Garrett Reese, and then um realizing that uh you know I could I could do sales, right, to pay the bills and and put some money in the bank and and and do my best there, but buying properties was gonna be the wealth generating opportunity.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: So about 2017, 2016, bought my first flip, um did a couple like the first year, and it was kind of like a you know, pinch me moment, like, is this real?
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, certainly never thought of layers of success would were were possible kind of growing up or just you know, middle class for the most part, and um just started evolving and growing and I started doing a couple flips and and they were all networking.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Uh it was people from you know YPN that kind of got me my first deal, and then it was uh an attorney that got my second deal, a probate deal, and then it was an agent in my office that did a short sale.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: So it really just started snowballing, and uh, I was always doing a good amount of real estate um on one side, and then I was flipping on the other side to actually put some some extra cash in my pocket and then start uh buying some rental properties and starting their portfolio.
- 17:47SPEAKER_02: So really it it changed when uh I started flipping houses for sure.
- 17:52SPEAKER_05: How was your first flip?
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, it was an interesting one for sure.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: They they all got like a story.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: Um it was Chris Bauman have mentioned him a few times on this.
- 18:02SPEAKER_02: So again, like He could be our next guest.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: The networking, oh yeah, the handlebar mustache is key for sure, man.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: He's we're we working our asses off to keep him like that.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: No, he's a he's a squirrel chaser.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Um anyways, yeah, it was a referral from him, a friend, and um uh just it was way easier than it actually sounds like.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: That one was um I think it was$150,000 to purchase the property, it was in South Sacramento.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: Of course, it was a sketchy neighborhood.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: We did have to work out something with the tenant for like a cash for keys type scenario.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, I I had like$10,000 or$15,000 that I could put down on a property, uh, partnered with my mom, got a hard money loan from from Chris and their company at Socotra, and uh made it work.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: Uh purchased the property, we painted it, we did some floors, and it was a total lipstick type flip property.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah, we made probably about 50,000 or something like that.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: So really saw like an opportunity there, put some money in my mom.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: The light bulb went off for sure, and and got my mom some extra money in her pocket, like that was a big payday, and then realized that all right, let's do this again.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, the the first three or four, nothing too crazy in terms of stories, it just structuring the deal in different ways and then figure out how to possibly leverage other people's monies, maxing out credit cards.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: I was thankful I had this other uh income source with selling properties because um the hard money loans add up, you're paying contractors, you're paying for materials, it gets tight, right?
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: And it's it's a different time right now for sure where things are 2017 is kind of a climbing market, right?
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: Like the market's growing.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: So for you looking for those deals, like they're getting tougher and tougher to come by because prices are going up.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Prices were steadily climbing.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: Not just for homes, but materials too.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: Oh well, yeah, then I'm sure we'll get to 2020 and you know what kind of a gasp that was.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: So 17, um it was a it was a fortunate time to start.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: I bought uh some rental properties at good rates.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Um I did uh FHA owner occupied for multi-unit properties.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: I um I bought a couple flips and um yeah, ultimately the entry price point was much reasonable.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: Like it it's it's kind of sad these days of like analyzing, like we know the real estate market's super challenging right now.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: It's hard for your an average family to buy a house right now.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: It's damn near unaffordable and and it's getting worse.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Half a million, like for a starter home, you're like, holy cow.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, not only half a million, but then you got a six percent interest rate.
- 20:48SPEAKER_05: I was just about to say your payments gonna be four or five grand for this, you know, it's just it's it's it's wild.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: And and at times it's like it has been nine years since then, but it's also like it's just exploded.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: So yeah, 17.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: Um you're buying properties under 200 at times, you're selling them for under 300, and um the demand was there.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: We had a lull, I think, in 2018 a little bit when rates cut into like four and a half or high fours, which was a lot then.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: And then it just was was fairly consistent.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: So definitely lucky or blessed that I got in when I did, and I I continue to add properties in my rental rental portfolio every year.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: That was um something I had on on my goals at the beginning of the year.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Like, how do I add a couple units um to bank these for later?
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: And and thankfully I did because um you know the interest rates are all good on them.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: They're three percent.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: It's obviously appreciated in California.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Uh we got some some good equity in them.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: And then since 22, right when rates jumped, I haven't been able to really uh purchase any good deals unless you start getting into like the the commercial side of things where I've I've had a little bit of success there.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's been it's been an an evolution for sure of 2016 to 2020, and then you got COVID, which which went wild and prices appreciated like crazy, and we saw a lot of uh success at that point.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: But uh then you got new challenges of of labor starting to skyrocket, materials are Starting to go up.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: You got a whole nother balancing act.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: You get scarcity of materials, scarcity of labor, all the things.
- 22:26SPEAKER_05: Do you have a project that's your most memorable for good or bad reasons?
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: God, I hope this goes to one of the freaking reels of like just these hoarder houses that he buys.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: I just want to hear Bobby talk about walking through shit.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: There's a bunch of them.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of them.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: I've been a part of I don't know.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: I was thinking about this in the way.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Like probably like five or six hundred traditional real estate transactions and three hundred like off-market ones.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: So it's it's it's getting up there.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: It's it's oftentimes, you know, you're dealing with the people, not the house, that that tends to be the issue.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: But I guess ones that um that ring a bell is is um one was in Curtis Park, actually, a neighborhood I lived in for a while, and um it went viral on Zillow Gone Wild or something like that.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: Uh Ryan Lundquist like covered it, it would get it thousands of views.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: It was on the news, it was this pretty eccentric um painter.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: It was a Van Gogh type uh the like the mosaic style house.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:24unknown: Yeah.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: I remember that.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: So I bought that and um it was I don't know if the agent did a disservice to herself, but she got so much publicity that they did some open houses and people just wanted to see like this art museum.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: And they go in the house and there was hundreds of people in the open house, but it was overwhelming.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: So then they got an offer, they canceled, and they just kind of wanted to be done with it.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: So I wrote, you know, low ball offer because I'm like, I you know, this isn't quite the house that makes sense for me, but you know, if you'll take it at this price, like I'll go for it.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: So um, anyways, bought the house, it was absolutely interesting.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: There was uh there was this wild decor everywhere, and I did like a last peek open house, and anyways, um it had this full-size basement, and um I swear the place was haunted.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: It was haunted.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: It it they had like a black room almost there with like the hanging kind of handcuff type stuff in there.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: The windows were blacked out in the basement.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: Um I heard they might have like sacrificed animals down there.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: These walls could talk.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: It it was something wild and uh kind of demonic writing literature, whatever, like all over the walls and stuff like that.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: The master bedroom had like uh molded in, I think, caulking and some weird stuff formed up for like candle holders and who knows what was going on up there.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, it was uh a lot going on, and ultimately um the uh the the previous owner was a um psychiatric uh therapist or whatnot for the prisons, and he was an interesting guy and would you know yell out his windows, yell at the neighbors, all this different stuff.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: So, anyways, the the wild story, again, it's it's often the people, sometimes not necessarily the house.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: So I swore this place was haunted.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: We did like this this open house thing.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: We had a pastor come by and like bless the house because there was either writing or people tell me like whoever takes this down is gonna be cursed for the rest of their life.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't want to mess with that.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: I don't want to.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Whether you believe or not, no, I know.
- 25:45SPEAKER_05: Well, it's not gonna be me.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: One of the nieces or something like that made a TikTok video and um it went, you know, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of views, and like I would I would read all the writing and like or the the comments, the blog on it, and they would kind of give context to like what these different things meant.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: Like he was like a warlock and all this stuff.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: So it was a territory that I didn't want to uh go into, even if you know I believe in it or not, like I just was starting to have some like anxiety and like discomfort.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: I remember we brought uh my my uh youngest there and my both my kids there, and he was in his uh uh his baby seat or whatever, and we like sat it up and the freaking baby seat like fell on the ground.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: And I was just like, I'm good.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: I bought the house, we were starting to get up plans, like it would have been a sick house because the basement was like a thousand square feet, the house was two thousand square feet, had a garage, sorry, had a pool.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: Uh you could see Curtis Park down the street.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: It's on Marshall Coleman, Coleman.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: Um, and um, I was like, I'm gonna pass.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: So it was it was a little too freaky for me.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: I ended up selling to to somebody else that uh my buddy knew wanted to move in the neighborhood, wanted for some sweat equity.
- 26:57SPEAKER_05: So at times You have to disclose hauntings.
- 27:00SPEAKER_05: I did.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: I did I disclosed what I knew because the guy did pass in there, and it looked like there was like some blood going up the stairs, and we thought it was something related to you know the sacrifice of some shoes or goats or something.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know what it was.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: Crazy but and and and hard no for me.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: We would just hear stories in neighbors, and then because I got writ up uh written up in uh SAC B and they did an article on me, this and that, and then people started reaching out to me, and they knew some stories, and there would be some weird orgies and stuff going on, and I was just like, uh, there's too much history with this house that I don't even want to be the one, and then you had to destroy what this guy's life creation was.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and again, there's like demonic type stuff written everywhere.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: I was like, I'm cool.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: Like So you didn't uh you didn't do any of the demo on it or anything, you basically just no we got it blessed for a little bit.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: We got it blessed, held it for a bit, had started pulling permits and stuff, and then it was like sometimes you know, with some of the properties, it's like we'll get them and then we'll we'll have our game plan, and then as some you know, something you know switches up, it's like okay, cool, let's see if someone else will pay X amount for this.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: And we did.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: We found somebody that loved the location, it was a great house.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, probably could have made some good money on it, but didn't want to be haunted for X period of my life.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: So that was the wildest one.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: There's there's there's a lot of I would say that's very memorable.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was an interesting one for sure.
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: All right, let's let's switch gears, let's switch gears a little bit.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: You are a Sacramento guy, born and raised Sacramento.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: So what are what are what are some of your spots, man?
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: Like what do you where are you going for a good time?
- 28:36SPEAKER_03: And maybe, maybe like like like you know, the the post-college grad versus now the I know the dad good time.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm 38 now, so that like the good times are uh a little different uh for sure.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: Like my wife tried to get away on some uh some date nights.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: Uh tried to do it once a week, twice a week.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, ultimately, like we're trying to find kids spots that are like kid friendly.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: We were just talking about I went to the fair twice last week and saw rolling iration.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: That was cool.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Um that was last week.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Go check it out.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: Um more week.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, iration was fun.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: Uh Sackyard is a great spot that we like.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Drake's like trying to find some opportunities and and and and places that the kids can run.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Family family.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: Are you in are you more west west sack area?
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Uh we're actually in Arden Park.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: Yes, we like Watt and Ferrox area.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: So there's uh still sack we we're in Curtis Park for eight years, so we're close to Sack Yard.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Uh did move about a year and a half ago, almost two years.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: And um there's a spot called Duke's over there.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: Kind of it's got dad's kitchen vibes, but there's like this little turf grass area where the kids can run around.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: So I'd say those are the some spots, but as far as like date night, uh we go out on the boat and we'll we'll pop over to like Craud's on the river, we'll go to Swabbies, go to Alamar, like you're going out on the boat on the river.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I would try to a couple times a month.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: And then um, yeah, I don't know.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: Again in the Arden area, we go to Wildwood.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Uh it's a really good Thai restaurant over there that we like on Monroe.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: I think it's uh trying to blink on it.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: And then a crew for sushi in uh right by Sackyard.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: That's like a winner for sure.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: So um, yeah, I mean I still like to grab a drink and hang out um with the wife when we can get out a little bit.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 30:24SPEAKER_03: We were just driving, we were driving back from uh from Long Beach last weekend on or last week, and uh it's not very often that my wife and family are like all in the car together and we're in Sacramento.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: So we stopped at Obo.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: Obo's one of our I love Obo.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: Obo's one of our spots.
- 30:40SPEAKER_05: They have meatball Mondays and their specials are fantastic.
- 30:44SPEAKER_05: If you haven't been, definitely go.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: And they're a the Sellens brand, right?
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: They do a great job.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: We we usually put our name in a crew and then pop over to Obo, because it's like next door, right?
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: You know, grab a drink there, and then it's crazy.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: You go to crew on like a Tuesday and there's a weight to sit at the bar.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's like I got good sushi.
- 31:04SPEAKER_05: Well, it's the best, it's literally the best place in Sacramento.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: But I mean, and I'm in Placer County.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: It's the same.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: It's the same with McCuni.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: It's the same with um shoot, what's the one that we really like?
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Uh it's on Blue Oaks.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Uh I know Blue Namis.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Is it Tang?
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Tang.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Tang.
- 31:20SPEAKER_03: I always I always forget the name on Tang's Tang's like our new spots where we're at most of the time for sushi now.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, I mean it's like the sushi craze, like everywhere.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: It's like you can't just walk in and sit down and get sushi anymore.
- 31:32SPEAKER_05: The people love good sushi.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 31:34SPEAKER_05: That's the one thing it'll never get old.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we ate at a Peruvian sushi restaurant down in Long Beach when I was down there with my daughter about a month or so ago.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: So that was cool.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: Peruvian sushi.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: Sushi's super popular.
- 31:45SPEAKER_05: Did they these days?
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: Did they serve like guinea pig?
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: We didn't we didn't get too we didn't get too wild.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: Do you have any Pisco sour out there?
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: Well, there was like salsas and stuff like that.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: So it was cool.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: Kind of a Latin sushi thing.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: It was actually really cool.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 32:03SPEAKER_05: So looking forward, we looked back, looking forward, what do you guys do you have a vision?
- 32:09SPEAKER_05: Like what what does the next 10 years look like for you guys?
- 32:13SPEAKER_05: Because your wife, is your wife involved in the business now?
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Uh a bit, yeah.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: So my wife uh and I met at Keller Williams.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: Uh she kind of had her own pretty high performing team, and I did too, and we merged, and um, we were doing quite a few transactions for a while together, and there was some friction at times, like working together.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: She not saying ego, but like she was a badass, and and I um did a good amount of business too, and we merged and it was like, who's running this thing?
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: And uh I kind of let her kind of flow and run with it.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, then we started having kids, and then she took a step back, and I was like, I really want to focus on the flips, and she kind of focused on the traditional stuff.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: And um we've kind of let our team go to an extent.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: We shall does uh some referrals, she'll do a transaction or two a month, usually uh I don't know, maybe about 16 deals a year or something like that.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: But she helps with project management right now.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: Um so we do have like an eight-person team.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: Uh we have uh a couple uh outside sales guys, we have uh inside sales where we run the commercials or mail or pay-per-click stuff, and they they call into our team, set the appointment, uh, and then my wife helps with uh project management, we have admin stuff like that.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: So um, yeah, she's been a big help, but she's also you know balancing.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: You talked about before about uh our our younger kids.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah and uh the the mess that younger kids create in a house and picking up like it's five and six?
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: I think I'm gonna four and five.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, dude.
- 33:45SPEAKER_03: Seven times a year.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: You're in you're in the drywall repair stage of life.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: Like yeah, there are headbuttons some walls here and there.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: Luckily, the walls they're white walls, but there's not too much crowns or markers or all over them.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: But the toys are freaking everywhere.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: And it's more dense.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and she's an organized, structured person, and like obviously there's no organization and structure to an extent with kids that age.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: It's brutal.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: My wife is like the once her wants our home to look like a model home at all times.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, everything's in place, and I'm like, damn, man, it's not possible.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: Sometimes we gotta just live.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: You have to let go.
- 34:22SPEAKER_05: You have to let some things go.
- 34:25SPEAKER_05: But my non-negotiable is like after the kid before I go to bed, my house will be picked up.
- 34:31SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm not dealing with this mess tomorrow morning.
- 34:34SPEAKER_05: It will be done tonight.
- 34:35SPEAKER_05: You'll get over that.
- 34:36SPEAKER_05: That's what people keep saying, but I don't know.
- 34:38SPEAKER_05: I have this like weird weird.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: We we put ours back together.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I've got teenage kids now, so they're their mess is.
- 34:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and and I only have one right now.
- 34:45SPEAKER_05: Like we'll see how I feel when two come around.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: It was like that for a while, and and at certain ages it could be a little easier.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: And then I mean, the kids are bigger, they run around, yeah, got decent sized house, like there's toys everywhere.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: It's freaking wild.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: And uh you kind of have to embrace the chaos and allow it to just let kids do their thing, and it's it's been um a process for her for sure.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Where it doesn't bother me, like even having like adult conversations at a table, right?
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Like they're going nuts, you're trying to talk about possibly something important, your day, what the week's looking like, whatever try adult talk, and they're just going nuts talking to each other, making noise, whining, whatever it is, throwing food at each other, yeah.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: And and some people can compartmentalize those conversations, and and some people can't.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: And like most of those conversations get pushed off, so there's chaos like mentally and and physically with with trying to hold conversations, and then there's what the house actually looks like.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: So uh she's balancing that for sure, but she'll help with project management uh a couple days a week and still helping a little bit on the the traditional sales.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: Are you using any AI in your business?
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: Like I'm glad you asked that.
- 35:57SPEAKER_05: I was yeah, curious about that.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's um there's a decent amount of things.
- 36:03SPEAKER_02: We're we're definitely utilizing on you know how a lot of people are with Claude or ChatGBT for for structuring meetings and and and strategizing and uh being uh that that third-party consultant or something like that.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: And then um we get almost 250 leads a month.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: So we are utilizing AI at times, like you know, people call at all hours, people text at all hours.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: So we have AI um answering services.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: We have if if you call our our our line and uh nobody answers on the third ring, it'll go to an AI answering service, and it's pretty good.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: It's pretty damn good.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: At times you want to know.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: We do uh we have almost 7,000 leads in our our system.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: Uh we have AI outbound calls that do follow-up calls and checks in and kind of goes off the previous notes of hey, how's it going, Susie?
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: You know, I saw you inquired about whatever, you know.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: Now is that the one that's just dropping it in people's voicemail box?
- 36:58SPEAKER_03: No.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: Having conversations.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: Oh wow.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:01SPEAKER_04: So there and it could be Is that through Claude or which what program are you using?
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: There's there's a guy named uh um uh Steve Trang that um he's in uh my space.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: I go to these masterminds, and you know, I am definitely not advanced in the AI stuff.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: I wait till people come out with stuff and then I'll probably implement some of the tools that they're selling.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: Um but anyways, yeah, one of his systems has it, and then also my CRM.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: So my CRM is uh it's called re-Semply, and again, we have all these leads.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: So if people text in, you could do the uh auto response type stuff, which can flow in two different conversations, but AI will pick up and respond as well.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: So they're two different softwares.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: They're they're not necessarily cheap, but uh compared to hiring another body, it can be cheaper.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: So it's um the other thing that it does have to have like health insurance on your own.
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, seriously.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, but but the uh like again, sales management's a big thing that it does um AI re recording of the calls, it'll summarize it and it'll grade how they did.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, the calls are summarized, so it helps us like understand things a lot quicker.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: So a lot of on the sales side.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: Um and then uh uh Chad foes on our our team and came back a couple months ago and he's pretty uh tech savvy, so we've been creating automations with our CRMs to uh trigger different things and send messages out.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: Um so it's getting it's getting more advanced for sure.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be very interesting in the next couple of years where uh I don't know, you know, Yuli Balazar I had him come speak at one of my groups and um you can create entire AI agents and have them essentially be like your transaction coordinator.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: So he's got it like ground level right now, and I've thought about investing some money into exploring it and and what that looks like, but it does seem like 18 months to to two years, like you could essentially have uh AI agents be your transaction coordinator and do kind of basic level um admin stuff.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: I mean you could do that now, but there's bugs in it.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: And it's like, okay, I pay a Yuli or something like that.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: You you probably need some type of tech officer or consultant where uh somebody's checking it, yeah.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I'm not good at that stuff.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Uh I and I feel like what I keep seeing is uh so many people are going down a rabbit hole with this stuff, and I'm like, let them do it, and let me just focus on the things I'm good at because when the Let them invent the wheel and then I'll go buy the tires.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: When the right product comes out, obviously everyone's gonna do it.
- 39:36SPEAKER_02: Because the people are like, You're gonna get left behind.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: Am I really?
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: I go to these conferences uh four times a year, and is 90 days is not gonna like create a huge difference.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: No.
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: When you guys have something, you're gonna sell it to me.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: And I will be a customer raising my hand, ready to go.
- 39:50SPEAKER_05: But I think the only people who are gonna get left behind are the ones who just refuse to try and to implement.
- 39:56SPEAKER_05: I was literally thinking about that this morning of like sometimes when I hear people talking about what they're doing, how they're using it, I'm like, shit, am I missing the boat here?
- 40:06SPEAKER_05: But then I realize, like, no, I don't need to be spending all that time and frustration learning how to make it work.
- 40:12SPEAKER_05: Like, I just need you to give me the template so I can plug and play and keep going.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: Well, because all the while, like the people that are learning it and bless their hearts, they're working out the kinks for you.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: Literally.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: So when that product gets to you, it's pretty seamless.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Well, and they in in some perspectives, like they could be wasting time or losing market share, they're losing business.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: If they're not a like CTO chief tech officer type person, they're the ones doing the operations, having the entrepreneurial business.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: Clearly, if they're focused X amount of hours on that, then they're not focusing hours on getting clients or advancing the business, which it can be, but like people are losing sleep right now.
- 40:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:48SPEAKER_02: Like they're they're they're staying up all night, and like there is amazing capacities that these tools have.
- 40:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm not gonna be the one to invent it for sure, but I will swipe my card when they're ready.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: And I know like Metrolis is coming out with some stuff, like, you know, like putting together, you know, it's it's the more simple stuff, right?
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: Can can it comp a property, right?
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: For sure in 12 to nine months, like that's gonna happen.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, can it put together your um listing presentation or buyer's presentation?
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: I think it's like you pop in a Metrolist or whatever, and you voice talk to your AI agent, like, hey, help me put together this for one, two, three, Main Street.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: They spit it out, saved you like an hour or something like that.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Whatever it is.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Like those are gonna be the things you leverage.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: The transaction coordination piece.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Yes, I think some of those office opportunities jobs could get condensed to where you can AI your transaction stuff.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: Social media, obviously, you guys can chop this up and like throw it into some AI um editors and stuff.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: Versus that that was that was a job before.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: It was a job.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be a job.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: I was I was I was golfing at at Hagen the other day, and um they've always had the the Roomba kind of small uh lawnmower cutters.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: I've always seen those ones.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: They got big ones now.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: They're like freaking five, six feet high.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: It looks like a little ATV thing and it's scooting around, some big cameras, and there's probably about five of them scooting around.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: So I I I always thought when I was thinking like AI, you know, like like iRobot, it was gonna be like a tall robot pushing a lawnmower.
- 42:19SPEAKER_02: Like, no, it's just like a lawnmower, yeah.
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: Well, we I think we were talking about this like the automated cars.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: Like, why do they keep they they finally stopped putting steering wheels in the automated cars?
- 42:28SPEAKER_03: Like you're wasting a seat, essentially.
- 42:30SPEAKER_04: Like literally.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, what's Zook in Vegas?
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: Zook.
- 42:36SPEAKER_03: Well, Zook is like the carriage.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: So you're like you're like facing each other, but there's no Oh Yeah, there's no there's no dashboard.
- 42:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, I haven't even seen that.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's no pedals.
- 42:45SPEAKER_05: Like, there's no and they're just not coming out with the modern carriage on wheels.
- 42:49SPEAKER_05: The Airbnb like fly taxis for short distances.
- 42:52SPEAKER_05: Um you'll be able to, yeah, so you'll be able to go from like Sacramento to San Francisco and it's basically.
- 42:57SPEAKER_05: I don't know if I trust flying on one yet, but well, somebody's got to test it out.
- 43:01SPEAKER_05: Again, it won't be us, but we'll be ready when it becomes more affordable to do that.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: I do have like 24, 2024, like Tesla, and those things are amazing and phenomenal.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: Like you you freaking set the destination it pulls from my driveway to here.
- 43:15SPEAKER_05: Do you ever get a little nervous though?
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: Like just no, because it's it's a better driver than me.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: And I've I've probably I don't have the self-driving in mine.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: I use the lane assist all the time.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: But uh yeah, I don't use I don't have the self-driving more just because I'm too cheap to spend a thousand bucks for the year or whatever.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: But uh it's unreal.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: Like I truly think like it's a better driver than me.
- 43:36SPEAKER_05: It's probably a better driver than most people because we're so distracted all the time.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: Well, the a couple of the exactly, and that's my fault.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: Like I'm an idiot.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: I'm looking at my phone, I'm responding to things, and I feel like I'm more efficient now that I'm utilizing this.
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Obviously, there could be that 1% where it doesn't uh That's funny.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: You brought up Kevin you brought up Kevin McDonald.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: Kevin McDonald was the one who in like 2019 was telling me, he's like, dude, this thing is when the Tesla drives itself, he goes, I'm all in.
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: He goes, Do you know how much more productive I'm gonna be?
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: Like he's like, because I'm in the car all day long, but I'm driving.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: And when I'm driving, I can't I can't be as productive.
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: He goes, When the car can drive for me, he goes, Now I'm working the entire time.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: He goes, I never stop working.
- 44:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: It's it's painful to get in like a regular car now where I have to drive because I've been spoiled.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: And um the Y's and the Threes, like they're not unreasonable these days.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: And they they discontinued a couple models because they're putting all their money into the robots, which to me is.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they got rid of the X and the S.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: Because those are like those were the higher end.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: They stop making the less profitable, I guess.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: And they're going to use those factories to create the robots they're coming out with this year or next year.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: So it's I'm not really times are changing.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: No, for sure.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: Well, but but also like right, Tesla gets bashed so regularly.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: Like that's actually a really smart business move on their part.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Stop making these luxury cars that aren't as profitable.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: They're not selling nearly as many.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: And let's just make more of what the people want.
- 45:03SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:03SPEAKER_05: It's the basics of S and D right there.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 45:06SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 45:06SPEAKER_05: So outside of work, what are some of your passions?
- 45:10SPEAKER_05: Is there an outside of work?
- 45:12SPEAKER_05: Or are we always working, Bobby?
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: Uh I I probably like have my mind on work too often, but um I uh I love golf.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: I'm not good at it.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: I need to AI it somehow.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Like have a I was just kidding.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: Um I try to golf like you know, usually every Friday, and uh that's that's a passion for sure, like play with some friends or get out.
- 45:37SPEAKER_02: Uh I like working out, try to fairly uh passionate about fitness and health and stuff like that.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: So I'm usually in the gym six times a week and uh definitely very health conscious.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: Um started playing a pickleball a little bit with my wife, uh playing softball this year, which has been which has been cool.
- 45:55SPEAKER_05: That's fun.
- 45:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:56SPEAKER_05: So you're active.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: Some different hobbies.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, this summer is overcommitted.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: Where at least my weeks, my wife's doing pickleball Monday in her own league.
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: I got softball Tuesdays, my kids got basketball Wednesday, swim Thursday.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: So obviously the kids take up like yeah, wait, wait, way over two.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: It gets better, dude.
- 46:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, like, like my life revolves around my kids' activities to the point where like my wife and I don't really know what to do when the kids don't have stuff going on.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: Like we were forced to like decompress these last couple of weekends.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: And I don't know, I mean it's yeah, it it's nice.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: I took it I took a nap, I think, on Saturday and Sunday.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: A couple hours.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: And I'm not a napper, like big nap guy.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 46:33SPEAKER_03: But I'm like, holy cow! Like, I mean, I I can look at a calendar year and probably have less than 20 opportunities for a Saturday or a Sunday nap, let alone like one each.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: And do you love it like that?
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: Um no, I mean I'm I'm pretty restless.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, my injuries kind of forced me to deal with not being able to do as much as I'd like.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: Um, but no, I mean, if I could be out playing basketball, I I can I I can golf again now, which is great.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: Um it's bad, it's really ugly.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: It's and uh not that I was great going in, but I mean Danny were pretty good.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: But I like to be probably got to my level now.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: Outside moving.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: We can play together now.
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: You'd probably whoop my ass.
- 47:13SPEAKER_05: He's lowered the bar now, yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: You'd probably kill me.
- 47:16SPEAKER_03: Uh but yeah, I mean that's and and it it was, it was an evolution as your kids get older, and and obviously Maureen and I both have an athletic background, so we did kind of push him.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, steer him in that direction.
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: I how hard do you push?
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: Um if they're like, oh, I don't want to do that, give them a choice.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: We never made him do anything they didn't want to do.
- 47:37SPEAKER_03: At what age?
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: We didn't because there's a certain age we're like, ah, he's like, I'm at that.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my son I don't wanted to play soccer.
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: My son started playing Do I give you a choice?
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: My son started playing sports at like five.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Um, he's always loved baseball.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: Um, he hated soccer.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: Yep, same.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: Um basketball was okay.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: He always wanted to play football.
- 47:59SPEAKER_03: My son's more like socially motivated than active activity motivated.
- 48:04SPEAKER_03: Um the football thing, he's small.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's like 40 pounds lighter than a lot of his friends.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: He's he's just little.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: He'd be a kicker.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: Flag football's taken off these days.
- 48:16SPEAKER_03: Brazilian Brazilian jeans might might play with kicking.
- 48:20SPEAKER_03: Um and same, so I remember like uh when we'd first moved back, my daughter was like was had just turned three.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: We were living in Folsom, and we signed her up for ballet or something like that.
- 48:33SPEAKER_03: And the second lesson, I mean, she wanted to do this more than anything.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: By the second lesson, she's like, absolutely not.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: And I mean, it was a full-blown knockdown, drag out fight, like, and we're like, No, you're going.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: Like, you're gonna do your five sessions that we paid for, and if you hate it still, then you can be done with it, but you're not quitting in the middle of something.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: So that's kind of how we've always approached it.
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: Um if they hate something, we make them s we make them finish what they started.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: We don't make them do it anymore beyond that.
- 48:59SPEAKER_05: I like that.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: Um, fortunately, with both of them, like, you know, I mean, and I don't know, maybe the parental influence.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, I played baseball, my son loves baseball.
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: My daughter put my my wife played volleyball, my daughter plays volleyball.
- 49:10SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know, maybe because we were able to expose them to a little more and help them and teach them and coach them, even with not being coaches in that regard.
- 49:19SPEAKER_03: Um you know, their passions are their passions.
- 49:23SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, it that's a tough one.
- 49:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, if we sign them up for something, they're committed to it for the season.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: If at the end of the season, do you go did you go all like three or four seasons, I guess?
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: Like, or do you give them like No, um, no, if they didn't want to do it, um So my son, we we put him in wrestling when he was like six, yeah, six-ish, and he hated it.
- 49:44SPEAKER_03: Um, but then he wrestled for junior high school last year, like so he went back to it.
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: Um, I think that was that was a learning thing.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Like they might come back to it if they love it.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Um I think wrestling for for boys is like the greatest thing ever.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: Like they it's it's very structured, it's very disciplined.
- 50:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and they need that outlet.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: And oh yeah, boys need that outlet.
- 50:04SPEAKER_03: And it's it's fucking hard.
- 50:06SPEAKER_03: Like they work five-year-old, seven-year-old, 13-year-old, like those coaches in that world, oh, you're gonna do push-ups, you're gonna do sit-ups, you're gonna go run for a while, like you're gonna sweat, you're gonna be exhausted, and they're gonna show you that you can do things that are harder than you think you can.
- 50:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I and I love that for them.
- 50:26SPEAKER_03: Um and I so that's why I love that my son went back to wrestling.
- 50:28SPEAKER_03: I'm hoping he does it again for school this year.
- 50:31SPEAKER_03: Um, so I don't know.
- 50:32SPEAKER_05: I I guess that's are your kids in a phase right now where they don't want to do that?
- 50:35SPEAKER_05: Is that no?
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's just picking and choosing.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Like I we moved to this new neighborhood, so I'm like, oh, let's do soccer to meet some more people, yeah.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: And meet some other parents and in the neighborhood friends and stuff like that.
- 50:46SPEAKER_02: And they don't want to do it.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: It's just fine.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: We're doing basketball at the YMCA, so it's downtown, like just different neighborhoods.
- 50:51SPEAKER_02: So I think I was, you know, do I give this five-year-old the credit to tell me what he wants?
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: Like if I ask him at any time, like, hey, do you want to do this?
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: Do you want to do this or you want to watch TV?
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: Do you want to watch, do you want to play with your toys or do you want to read?
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: Like, obviously, like he's picking the latter.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:08SPEAKER_03: I will I will give you guys this piece.
- 51:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, I do feel like this is something that I have had that I've learned and and and and I'll share with the audience.
- 51:16SPEAKER_03: Like, we live in Sacramento, and if your kids get into like competitive like travel sports where you're all over the place, I mean, we've been on airplanes like six or seven times this year for sports.
- 51:28SPEAKER_03: Um if if humidity is not your thing, if dry heat's not your thing, or inclement weather in any is not your thing, you might want to steer them towards an indoor sport.
- 51:40SPEAKER_02: You want them good, but not that good on some of those sports.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: We were we were like we did, we did like Dallas and Arizona.
- 51:45SPEAKER_03: And you know, my daughter, like she's 16.
- 51:48SPEAKER_03: Like so she's she's old enough to make a decision on things, and she says, she goes, You can scratch all the schools in Arizona and Dallas off the list.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: I have no interest living here with this humidity.
- 51:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I was like, that's a real thing.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: Like you walk out of these convention centers and the humidity just punches you in the face.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: It's crazy.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, we are very, very spoiled to live in northern California.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: I know we think it we think it's hot, and it's like 100, but no, it's not bad at all.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: Dry heat, dry heat, I'll take it all day every day.
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: The 120s or yeah, Texas is wild.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: Florida Kansas City with 80% humidity, you can like drink the area coming.
- 52:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's horrible.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: We we are blessed with that regard, but no, I think I mean the the the emphasis on sports, right, is camaraderie, team building, work with others, uh time management communication, time management, struggling for sure.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Huge for my daughter.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: She's so, so good at time management.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and the commitment, like you said, like joining something and sticking with it, even if you don't like it.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: And uh I think for me it's like I was never amazing at any sport and still not good at golf, but at least being like athletic, right?
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: Like where if I'm going out to play kickball or I'm going out to do this, like I'm serviceable and I could do something to be coordinated and athletic and continue to have that passion to like join things.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: Because I think you know, I did it all when I was young.
- 53:04SPEAKER_02: I didn't play really any high school sports because I was um small and I didn't like the school and felt insecure or whatever.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: So unfortunately didn't join then, but then college played some sports, and then getting out of college, like I joined all these different groups, and I think that's the important thing to you know be comfortable being uncomfortable.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what are you doing you looped me into some XOSO softball?
- 53:27SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, I love XOSO.
- 53:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, we did we did softball and I did kickball uh for years, yeah, and that was fun.
- 53:34SPEAKER_02: And um I did their soccer league, the co-ed soccer league.
- 53:37SPEAKER_04: That was cool.
- 53:38SPEAKER_03: I met a lot of people through through that too.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: Like it's it's funny because I mean you just find things and they turn into networking and a lot of fun and like you make really good connections.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: Like you get people out of that work arena and their guards down, and now you're just peers.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:52SPEAKER_02: Just play you, you're on the same team, like we gotta figure this out, we're gonna play together.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: And that was that was a fun league because we had I feel like Remax had a team.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: Maybe we had like a YPN team, uh Big Valley had a team.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: There were there was it was all like a real estate league we kind of threw together and uh another fun opportunity to kind of you know talk crap or kind of work.
- 54:12SPEAKER_05: What do we do in these in these like mid-30s to mid-40s age range?
- 54:16SPEAKER_05: Like what can we do that?
- 54:18SPEAKER_05: I know I'm like, if we put together a team, I feel like half of the games would end in at least some type of injury for most of the players.
- 54:25SPEAKER_03: Bobby said he started playing pickleball.
- 54:26SPEAKER_03: I'm like, dude, I got I hope I hope you're wearing the right shoes and that you're stretching before you do like softball, man.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: Dude, people get hurt, man.
- 54:33SPEAKER_02: The first day I went out to softball and I'm playing on Sokocher's team, uh, Baldwin's team, uh, he hasn't come out.
- 54:39SPEAKER_02: But they got some younger dudes in their mid-20s.
- 54:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, right.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: And they're, dude, hit a single, whatever, jogs down a first, tore his hamstring.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh.
- 54:47SPEAKER_02: And he's 10 years younger than me.
- 54:49SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh crap.
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: All right, make sure to like let it off a little bit.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: Some lady like dehydrated, just froze at second base, collapsed, damn near needed an ambulance.
- 54:58SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh, all right, man.
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: Looks like I'm playing cricket.
- 55:02SPEAKER_05: No, that's it for me.
- 55:04SPEAKER_05: Well, golf.
- 55:05SPEAKER_05: I think pickleball is like golf is pretty.
- 55:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I just you go play pickleball, you're getting your ass whooped by seven-year-olds.
- 55:12SPEAKER_05: You guys, I cannot play.
- 55:13SPEAKER_05: I can't do anything that's upper body.
- 55:15SPEAKER_05: I become a safety hazard for the people around me.
- 55:17SPEAKER_03: I did I watched when I was in between my nap, I watched uh there's a movie, I think it's on Apple.
- 55:22SPEAKER_03: It's called The Dink.
- 55:24SPEAKER_03: It's a pickleball movie.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: It's hilarious.
- 55:28SPEAKER_03: It's great.
- 55:28SPEAKER_02: It's like the newest fad that completely took over the world.
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: For those of us who might build enough pickleball courts.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: No, it was cornhole probably like 10 years plus ago that everyone was doing, and now it's like pickle cabal.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: Well, think about like the first time you played pickleball, like how sore were you the next day?
- 55:45SPEAKER_03: I'm like, oh my god.
- 55:46SPEAKER_02: Like But I don't think it's like insanely challenging.
- 55:50SPEAKER_02: It's a small court, you're not covering a ton of ground, like your lateral movements are maybe the size of this room.
- 55:57SPEAKER_03: And it's fast twitch, so it's pretty good for you.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: Like Yeah, you get you get some cardio, you get exercise, hand-eye coordination.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: Like, but again, there's like people in the 70, 75 range where they were playing tennis.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: And they'll whoop your ass.
- 56:09SPEAKER_02: Now they're whooping you.
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:12SPEAKER_02: It's it's morally defeating you go out there and grandma's putting a beating on.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: Oh, Gertie's getting lines and wearing you out.
- 56:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:22SPEAKER_02: So they look like gamers, so they got the eye girls on clearly.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: Thank you for the visuals, guys.
- 56:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 56:28SPEAKER_05: Um, okay.
- 56:28SPEAKER_05: Are you ready for a little lightning round of questions?
- 56:31SPEAKER_05: Let's go.
- 56:33SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 56:33SPEAKER_05: Coffee or tea?
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: Uh coffee.
- 56:36SPEAKER_05: Morning, morning, bird or night L almost got those mixed up.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: Uh morning for sure.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: I will 9 30 to 10 is my my bedtime.
- 56:44SPEAKER_05: Okay, so then sunrise or sunset.
- 56:47SPEAKER_02: Sunrise.
- 56:48SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 56:49SPEAKER_05: Old Sacramento or Midtown?
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: Uh probably midtown.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: I lived in Curtis Park, so it was it was pretty close to our.
- 56:59SPEAKER_02: Uh Sac yeah, American Sack River for sure.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: I guess I I I like bar hopping, I guess, and listening to music and hopping and cruising.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: So yeah, the river.
- 57:09SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 57:09SPEAKER_05: So in that case, concert in the park or aftershock?
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: Uh I'd almost say neither, but um I've been to concert in the park more.
- 57:21SPEAKER_02: Uh the weeds flowing there.
- 57:25SPEAKER_02: I think I checked out a regular.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: It was Arden Park Roots, I think I saw last.
- 57:29SPEAKER_02: And it was it was a little contact high.
- 57:31SPEAKER_02: But I saw Sublime and um Offspring bringing back some 90s vibe, at least offspring.
- 57:37SPEAKER_02: Is gonna be on day three for Aftershock.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: I think I went once this year?
- 57:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:42SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: So I I've been, you know, uh Dirty Head, Sublime, uh all that kind of thing.
- 57:48SPEAKER_04: I'm kind of getting a feel for your yeah, I can see.
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we've diverged a little bit, but it it reminds like how about the frickin' um like the rail yard district, what they're doing down there.
- 57:56SPEAKER_05: What are they doing down there?
- 57:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's gonna be the death of Discovery Park, is what it's gonna be.
- 58:00SPEAKER_03: I think it's like and they're building the soccer stadium.
- 58:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it's like, I mean, every time I drive barrel by there, all those run-down old buildings, those are gonna be super cool in 10 years.
- 58:09SPEAKER_05: I think they've I'm glad they're keeping them because they are so like just the architecture of it is so unique and awesome.
- 58:17SPEAKER_02: The retro the retrofitting of that stuff is if you go down uh R Street right now by a fox and goose, they've done a really good job of converting some of them, like the beautiful brick buildings, yeah, keeping the shell.
- 58:29SPEAKER_05: There's a really cool marketplace in one of those.
- 58:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, those buildings just have a really rad patina to them.
- 58:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can capture that and make it work.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: It'll be interesting over there.
- 58:38SPEAKER_02: I think uh I mean the challenge is like I don't know, they obviously state workers maybe are coming back, but there's just businesses turning over and going out.
- 58:48SPEAKER_02: Um obviously going out to eat is expensive.
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: You can't get a meal for a hundred bucks, it seems like, for a dinner for two.
- 58:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, going out to lunch is twenty bucks.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:57unknown: Yeah.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: Easily fish.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, too.
- 58:59SPEAKER_02: Easily, yeah.
- 58:59SPEAKER_02: You get a salad for for 20.
- 59:01SPEAKER_05: I mean, a sandwich, I was looking at Doordash, sorry for my laziness, but you know, I have a baby, I can't get out all the time.
- 59:06SPEAKER_05: And the the sandwich that I wanted to get from Jax was like$25.
- 59:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 59:11SPEAKER_02: I was like, Yeah, but then you need tip and service baby.
- 59:15SPEAKER_05: Like, this is about to be a$45 sandwich.
- 59:17SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 59:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: So so I I I think, you know, what it'll be interesting to see, like, yes, you're building this area, you're gonna have more restaurants, you're gonna have whatever, but like even downtown Doku, like they continue to turn.
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: Like Punch Bowl went out of business.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: Oh wow, I didn't know that.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: That place is huge.
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: Like, and I you felt like there was a lot of people kind of coming in and out, but I'd only be down there occasionally during games or events or something like that.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: So you're dependent on that stuff, and yeah, that that square footage ain't cheap.
- 59:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, the old adage if you build it, they will come may not be true when there's intense inflation and the economy is suffering.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: Inflation, uh yeah, everything's more expensive.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: Is our population growing?
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: Not really.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: Uh yes, some people kind of migrate from the Bay Area, but we're still competing, and you're still competing for the for people's dollars.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_03: Like you know, it's like a lot of attractions.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_03: I was just talking to somebody the other day.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, like the the downfall of the of Topgolf.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_03: Like Topgolf seven years ago was the hottest thing ever.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_03: And you know, then Callaway bought it, so maybe Callaway mishmanaged it or whatever, but like it's not what it was.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: Well now they really have a ton of competition because it's all the uh the simulators popping over something.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_05: There's like a really cool one in Roseville that's like a brewery maker.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we had a sushi.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they have everything.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's everything.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we had a team event there and it was epic.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_05: Like they brought out the sushi boats, and I'm like, where are we?
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_03: Like what but then you look at it too, and you're like, oh god, and I also just spent$200 to play some simulator golf and eat some sushi.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_03: You're like, okay, hold on.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_03: Like that's the thing.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's it's interesting.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: It is it's an interesting spot.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, and the the rate that inflation took off and everything, it's an another topic for another day.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_02: But yeah, is top golf still going in Atomas?
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_02: That I don't know.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: Because you're saying the Roosevelt one's not doing as well, or I don't I don't think it is doing as well.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_03: I mean, it doesn't look as big as well.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: When was the last time you were there?
- 1:01:15unknown: I haven't.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_03: We have a corporate account, so I've been there a couple times this year.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_03: I've taken some clients over there and and hung out, but it can even sell like we paid like four grand for the year.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: And you know, it's like and then you go and you're still gonna spend another.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you gotta get the food and the drinks and food and beverage and stuff like that.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: So it's uh it's one of those things when you start looking at the value.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: Initially we thought the value was great, and then it you know it gets kind of tired.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, I could take that four grand and spread it over different activities.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, switch it up a little bit.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_02: We're going to uh white water rafting on Friday.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, with my team, uh Kiloma, which sound it right.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: You go to Auburn and it's around the Kloma or whatever.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: So Yeah.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: The time gets a little intense up there.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: Then Red Hawk has some cool stuff going on for like team events, and um I'm excited about it.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_02: We were almost gonna go to Six Flags, and I'm not a roller coaster guy.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: I was like, sure, if you guys want to do this, uh I'll drive to the East Bay on a Friday and try back in traffic.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_02: Like no interest.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_02: So I'm glad it got vetoed and we're going to Whitewater.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_03: And I was a roller coaster guy for a long time, and I took my kids to Six Flags a few years ago.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_03: And the roller coaster, they're so short.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_03: I mean, for the amount of time you wait in line, I'm like, dude, they're like less than 30 seconds.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: Let me let me stand in the sun for like two minutes.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_05: I just need to get this in here because Dan has a very important question to ask you.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_05: But the new roller coaster technology is incredible.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_05: Like I went on one, I don't know, Disney World or something like that.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_05: They had one of the newer roller coasters.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_05: And it's all like computer.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_05: First of all, you're in your own cart, and each cart moves independently of the rest of the ride.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_05: So you're going with the flow.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_05: So you're not getting jerked around and stuff.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_05: And it's insane.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_05: It's a totally different experience.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_05: It is smooth like butter and so fun.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_02: So there's hope for you, yeah, Bobby.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_02: I didn't go on one at uh at the fair.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_02: That was a pass.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely didn't.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_02: I didn't go on that one either.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_02: I went on the Matterhorn at Disneyland and it was off.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_02: It scared the shit out of my five-year-old.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_02: He was not ready.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_02: I was like, come on, buddy, this is gonna be fun.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_02: And he's like, You did not prepare for that.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_02: Is it?
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_02: Is it okay?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: The roller coaster or the Yeti that scared him.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_03: It was both.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_03: He was terrified.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_03: He's like, I'm not going on.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_05: You really feel like you're in a bobsled on that ride.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, my younger one probably would have been down, but he's like, let's go back to Peter Penn.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Like, cool.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: That's my favorite, too.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_03: Uh all right.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_03: Well, Bobby, I know we we we got off to kind of a late start.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_03: We we're we're coming up on just over an hour here, so we we certainly appreciate your time.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_03: We want to wrap it up.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_03: We finish every podcast with this question.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_03: We feel like it gives everybody a little chance to kind of maybe get to know you and see inside your head a little bit.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_03: So if you could be anyone for a day, dead or alive, who would you be and what would you do?
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_02: Uh didn't prepare for that one.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_05: Uh crazy to me how many people have so many questions.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_05: I'm like, you can't at all.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but like we're not gonna get to that.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: Um Dead or alive.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_02: Uh who would I want to be for a day?
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_02: Um I think uh I mean, I'm a big sports guy, so I feel uh maybe like a Tom Brady or something like that.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: I just feel like uh You want a piece of that re-recent Logan Paul beef.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_05: What was that?
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_05: Come on.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_05: That was bullshit.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_05: Also, Tom Brady, why do you gotta slap like a little bitch?
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_05: Okay, that was the worst bitch slap I've ever seen.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_05: Sorry, what would you do for a day is?
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe not Brady now that you've shit him down on the mention.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_03: Uh Well, I think I think to understand why he feels so strong, I don't know.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_02: I I don't think it matters who to an extent, like Jordan, Kobe, Tom Brady, like some of these topics.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just like live in that season, those moments, being like the leader of your team, being that person that sets the standard and the example.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: Um competitive screaming your name.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_03: For me, it's the competitive feel.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_03: Like I'm I'm a pretty competitive guy.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_03: Compared to Michael Jordan and those guys, like those guys they will kill you.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_02: Maybe not Jordan, maybe not Cody, but I feel like there's a a certain tenacity that you need as well, like being a business owner, operator, leading a team, setting the example, whether it is you know, getting up, going to the gym, showing up at the office, doing the things that you need to do.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: So I think again, passionate about sports, so I think it'd be someone in that realm that um kind of just had like an amazing season and experience.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_02: Because I I love people, I love hanging with the guys or whatever it is.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_02: I like um just winning together.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_02: So being a part of uh one of those amazing team dynamics and cultures, and I'm sure it was just a really fun ride.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: And I think Dan, you're a Giants fan, and you know, sometimes think back of like, man, those three World Series Giants in like five or six years, like we likely may never see anything like that again, but it was so special to even be a fan, watching experience and go into the games.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_03: And my experience in that, like I was actually living in Kansas City for the first two, and then we had just moved back for the third.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_03: Did you get to go to the parade?
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_03: And they played Kansas City in the third World Series.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_03: My wife and I went to game three, and it was like it was just such a it was so cool.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_03: Like being being a big sports fan that's not and not living in that market, and then when they're having success is awesome.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_03: Like yeah, it's you know, it's like something you get to be passionate about.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_03: It's really, really cool.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's something you share with like my dad.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: Like we went to game two, I think, when they played the Tigers, I think it was, or the Rangers in the first World Series.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_02: But yeah, just experiencing those moments with friends, families, like the gatherings, just like in the Niners or you know, making their run, like, oh, let's come over and watch a game.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_02: Like you the feeling you have inside.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: So obviously being on the field and experience it on a completely different caliber, um, I think it would be pretty exciting.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_05: That'd be epic.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_05: Seriously, epic.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_03: All right, man.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_03: Well, like I said, we appreciate you coming in and spending time with us.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_03: Little Wade on the way out.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_02: I talked a lot about reggae and iration, but I do like throwing it.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, that you fry should know this that slumped millionaire, Bollywood flow, and uh my real friends never hear it from me.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_00: Fake friends write the wrong answers on the mirror for me.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: That's why I picked it too.
