- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing.
- 0:12Genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. Now I'm going to ask you a
- 0:41question and I really want you to think about it first.
- 0:45Do you tend to avoid conflict? You avoid having difficult
- 0:49conversations? You avoid wanting to let someone
- 0:53down? Or if this is a decision which
- 0:56definitely someone isn't going to like, you just delay making.
- 0:59That decision? If so, I think you're going to
- 1:02get some value from this because it was created this particular
- 1:07hypnosis session. For a client, that was very.
- 1:09Very successful and I would say of all the clients that I've
- 1:12worked with. The personal.
- 1:14Level of focus and determination, probably up there
- 1:18with the highest I've ever worked with, has able been able
- 1:21to accomplish incredible things individually in terms of let's
- 1:27say, health, fitness, business, very, very capable person.
- 1:32And yet interpersonally, their desire to consider other people
- 1:39too much and to avoid conflict actually in certain cases was
- 1:44making things worse because it meant that they were being
- 1:49inconsistent, flip flopping, backtracking, those kind of
- 1:53things weren't really working for them.
- 1:56So there there is a timeline structure to this hypnosis
- 2:00session where they go back to a time where they had what they
- 2:04considered the highest level of personal resolve, where they
- 2:08were doing an Ironman triathlon. Now if you ever heard of this,
- 2:13it's one of the most extreme things that you can do.
- 2:16It's. Swimming, cycling for kilometres
- 2:20and kilometres and then kind of ending, I think it ends with a
- 2:24marathon after you've done all of these things.
- 2:27It's an intense thing. And they knew that they'd
- 2:32prepared and they knew they had the psychological and emotional
- 2:34resolve to do that. So it harnesses that and then
- 2:39says, right, where did they not quite get it right?
- 2:42A memory. Where?
- 2:44Their willingness to avoid conflict, actually.
- 2:46Caused. A bigger problem than if they
- 2:49would have just been resolute right from the start, so they
- 2:54get to. See it as.
- 2:55It was see it as they would want it to be, live it the way they
- 2:58would want it to be with two key things.
- 3:01That feeling of being resolute, having that personal resolve,
- 3:06but also introducing clear boundaries.
- 3:09You can't hold the line if you don't know what the line is.
- 3:12And therefore communication is such an important part of this.
- 3:16But if someone violates something you've clearly
- 3:18communicated, that doesn't necessarily mean malicious
- 3:21intent. It could just be a lack of
- 3:24thinking. It could be habitual.
- 3:26It could be, you know, just kind of a misunderstanding.
- 3:30So giving people chances if something's really important to
- 3:33you and they just violate that, if the intention is kind of good
- 3:37or just like not malicious, that's that's a good reason to
- 3:40do that. But then having clear
- 3:41consequences if something gets violated again and again, it's
- 3:47such an important element of boundary setting because one of
- 3:51my fundamental beliefs is that you get what you tolerate, not
- 3:53what you deserve. And therefore if there's never a
- 3:56consequence, then effectively you have no boundaries, and then
- 4:00the boundaries get reduced and reduced until there's nothing
- 4:05left to. View so.
- 4:07Boundaries are non negotiables. They are not optional.
- 4:10Everyone needs boundaries, but not everyone is going to like or
- 4:13respect your boundaries. And if they don't respect your
- 4:16boundaries, then you get to have consequence.
- 4:20And consequences might be you spend less time with them or you
- 4:24communicate in a different way or whatever it might be.
- 4:28This idea of you cut people out of your life.
- 4:31It's quite an extreme consequence, but it is a
- 4:33consequence. It's on the table.
- 4:35It's an option, even if it's the nuclear option.
- 4:38So it introduces that and then future paces to a situation that
- 4:43hasn't happened yet. But they knew that difficult
- 4:45conversations may be required, but the preparation stage of
- 4:49having communication in these key areas in advance would
- 4:55mitigate and reduce a lot of those potential issues.
- 5:00So I want you to think of something in your life where
- 5:05boundaries are necessary. Difficult conversation either
- 5:08have happened or could happen, and you want to feel absolutely
- 5:13resolute, full of resolve, that you will say what needs to be
- 5:16said. Do what needs to be done, even
- 5:18if it means ruffling a few. Feathers every now and then.
- 5:21So that you have the kind of dynamics that kind of work for
- 5:25you. Now consideration is a two way
- 5:27St. If you're expecting everyone
- 5:31else to abide by your boundaries but you disregard other people's
- 5:37boundaries, that. Doesn't make you.
- 5:39Considerate. That makes you a tyrant.
- 5:41So again. What's good for the goose is
- 5:43good for the gander. If you're expecting other people
- 5:45to respect you, make sure you respect other people as well.
- 5:49Then it's balanced. But if you're.
- 5:51Doing lots of respect, if you're being very considerate and that
- 5:54doesn't go back to you, boundaries are probably very
- 5:57useful. And if you've been avoiding
- 5:59conflict and difficult conversations as a reason not to
- 6:02introduce those boundaries, this session I think is going to be
- 6:05very useful. Now it was created for an an
- 6:08individual client. I would say it's statistically
- 6:11unlikely that you've. Done.
- 6:13An Iron Man, and therefore you can't go back to that memory to
- 6:16harness the time when you had resolve in the highest.
- 6:20Abundance for you. But you will have a different
- 6:23memory. You will have a memory where you
- 6:25were at your highest level of feeling resolute, In which case
- 6:30ignore the feeling the memory of an Iron Man and kind of, let's
- 6:35say swimming and cycling and running and go back to your
- 6:38memory. And if you do like the idea of
- 6:40having a bespoke session working directly with me, look in the
- 6:44description. There's a few things that you
- 6:46can do there to either take a suitability test or watch a
- 6:50webinar about working with me and that will show you exactly
- 6:53what to do to make it possible to work with.
- 6:56Me one-on-one rather than just. Listening to recordings, but for
- 6:59now you might get some real value from this session, so find
- 7:01a quiet, comfortable place where you won't be distracted.
- 7:04Or disturbed. Relax.
- 7:06And enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and as you
- 7:42breathe in, breathe in that resourceful feeling of calm and
- 7:48relaxation. And as you exhale, just allow
- 7:54your eyelids to close. And as they close, just feel
- 8:01that release, a release of any tension, any stress, any
- 8:11worries, slowly, incrementally being released and leaving your
- 8:20body. Every outward breath, that's it.
- 8:26And when you breathe in, breathe in deeper than you normally
- 8:31would. And as you exhale, just allow
- 8:38that outward breath to continue until there's nothing left.
- 8:48Diaphragm empty. Noticing the vacuum you create
- 8:55facilitates the next deeper breath.
- 9:06And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 9:13And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 9:21As your body relaxes, your imagination awakens.
- 9:27And I want you to imagine floating back in time and
- 9:35seeing, seeing a time of absolute resolve float back to
- 9:47that moment and see you back then.
- 9:52And as a result of all of that preparation, there was
- 9:58unshakable certainty that you had the qualities required to do
- 10:06something challenging. I want you to see that version
- 10:12of you perhaps at the starting line under no illusion as to the
- 10:21size of the challenge, but also under no illusion that your
- 10:30capabilities, your resources exceeded the demand ahead.
- 10:41And I want you to mimic subtle things in that version of you,
- 10:50mimic the facial expression that version of you with pure resolve
- 10:54has. Breathe the way they're
- 10:58breathing. Maybe they're loose and relaxed.
- 11:05Maybe they're prepared and focused and just adjust your
- 11:11body. The game of mimicry.
- 11:15All children played it a few times, and notice that when you
- 11:23start to breathe the way they breathe and feel the way they
- 11:30feel, you could feel more of that resolve starting to awaken
- 11:36within you. And then imagine stepping into
- 11:43that version of you, abundant, steadfast, determined, oozing
- 11:54pure resolve, and imagine the challenge begins.
- 12:06Maybe you can connect without feeling of invigoration.
- 12:16You can recall that in a dialogue, you are aware of all
- 12:25of that preparation paying dividends later, but had you not
- 12:32prepared in the way that you prepared, the challenge would be
- 12:36more challenging. And I want you to think back to
- 12:42that preparation. There were times that you didn't
- 12:47feel like training, but you did anyway.
- 12:57And I want you to connect with an essence, A mantra, or a
- 13:02belief. Fuck your mood.
- 13:07Follow the plan. And while you're in that memory,
- 13:15getting all the benefits of all the preparation because you
- 13:21followed a plan, I want you to notice that it didn't need to be
- 13:30easy for you to hold the line. In fact, the very point that you
- 13:39were doing it is that it wasn't easy.
- 13:46I want you to connect to that essence.
- 13:48Then when it got challenging, that enriched and added to the
- 13:56experience rather than took something away.
- 14:03And maybe it was a wave tightness in a tendon or a
- 14:11muscle. Maybe it was a a bruise or a
- 14:17knock go forwards in time and maybe maybe it was the weather
- 14:27or the wind. Maybe it was fatigue or
- 14:34exhaustion. But I want you to imagine
- 14:41resolve as almost a flame within.
- 14:48But so long as that flame is burning, you will continue.
- 14:57And maybe there were times, but that flame was challenged and
- 15:05you just needed to focus on the very next goal, the next
- 15:15station, the next kilometer. I want you to tap into that
- 15:21ethos and make that flame brighter.
- 15:26Notice the location of where that personal resolve exists
- 15:32within you and hone into the essence of what makes resolve
- 15:43resolve. It's the fact that it's
- 15:49challenged. You don't need resolve when
- 15:54everything is easy. You don't need resolve when
- 16:00there's no tough decisions, no adversity, no problems.
- 16:10That's the point. You only need it when things get
- 16:17tough. Let's make that flame brighter.
- 16:25Notice how you're breathing. Notice the tonality of that
- 16:28inner dialogue when you have that resolve.
- 16:34And then imagine. Imagine you're running now, one
- 16:42step at a time, 1 kilometre at a time.
- 16:46Knowing the what's ahead is not easy, but it becomes easier to
- 16:56focus on the short term that collectively would get you to
- 17:05the long term. And what if this long challenge
- 17:15has always been a metaphor for other challenges in your life, A
- 17:26business, a family? These are not three to five year
- 17:34goals. These are longer goals that can
- 17:40span over decades. And that endurance, that
- 17:48stamina, that long term focus can easily be mapped across to
- 17:57these different longer time horizon goals.
- 18:08And you don't have to be aware of every variable to be
- 18:13prepared, just to know that you have the ability to make
- 18:22decisions and hold the line link to whatever is actually there
- 18:35beyond the finishing line. I want you to imagine.
- 18:42Imagine there is a childhood cinema that you can recall
- 18:48shouldn't be there, but it is. I want you to imagine walking
- 18:55into that cinema with that sense of pride and accomplishment and
- 19:00what you've achieved and starting to see a memory, a
- 19:08memory of a time where you didn't have that same resolve in
- 19:16an interpersonal situation on that big screen in the cinema.
- 19:22I want you to recall a memory where you were inconsistent,
- 19:27flip flopping, back tracking. You couldn't hold the line
- 19:33because you didn't know what the line was.
- 19:37The line kept being redrawn in different places, uncertain for
- 19:43you, uncertain for others. And I want you to watch that
- 19:49memory as if you're a character there on the screen, but see it
- 19:56as it was, not better, not worse as it was.
- 20:05And you can condense time. What may have taken place over
- 20:10weeks or months could take place in minutes.
- 20:14Your brain already knows how to synthesize.
- 20:19The most important? Parts of that memory like a
- 20:24montage. And I want you to observe how
- 20:32that inconsistent version of you made things worse and not
- 20:39better. That even though the intention
- 20:44was good, the consequence made things messy, difficult, perhaps
- 20:53created an emotional rug pool of uncertainty for others.
- 21:02And I want you to extract all of the wisdom from that memory.
- 21:08You're older now, and when you think back to a memory,
- 21:14particularly when you see yourself as someone else, you
- 21:20get that level of objectivity that extracts even more wisdom
- 21:27than you could do living it. And I want you to imagine, when
- 21:34you've seen that memory, think with the benefit of hindsight,
- 21:42what you would do differently if you had that same personal
- 21:47resolve in this interpersonal situation.
- 21:54Things like clarity, a feeling of resoluteness, that
- 22:06determination to hold the line come what may, to rewind it and
- 22:14see the memory starting with a different facial expression.
- 22:23There is a Stoic resolve in this version of you to play the
- 22:31memory forward the way you would do if there was No Fear of
- 22:38conflict, a desire to make the best decision based on real
- 22:46facts. Not wishing it was different,
- 22:52but playing the cards you've been dealt.
- 22:58And I want you to see that expression of being resolute,
- 23:07the mental decisiveness, the inner courage to hold the line.
- 23:17And maybe, maybe with the benefit of hindsight, you could
- 23:23go back even further and maybe there was an opportunity to
- 23:32communicate something that was never communicated before the
- 23:37problem arose. How can someone hold a line,
- 23:44including yourself if you don't know what the line is to see
- 23:51that strong? Confident.
- 23:52Version of you communicating, and not just communicating, but
- 23:59communicating in such a way where the understanding has been
- 24:07verified. And then imagine that even with
- 24:13that communication, certain things aren't working.
- 24:23And I want you to imagine seeing that resolute version of you
- 24:32deciding to give someone a chance or to give someone a
- 24:37consequence. Because sometimes if a rule, an
- 24:46expectation, a boundary is crossed, sometimes it's not
- 24:54malicious, it's just unintentional, habitual, a
- 25:00misunderstanding. But what if that first chance
- 25:08eliminates all of those misunderstandings?
- 25:15You communicate the line. You highlight that the line has
- 25:24been crossed. You can say what consequences
- 25:31you're keen to avoid. And then, at your discretion,
- 25:37you give the chance. But then, if that chance has
- 25:48been received, understood, and yet history repeats, now, any
- 25:58lack of consequence or a consequence that seems uncertain
- 26:09will be perceived as weakness. A country that have laws that
- 26:15aren't enforced becomes lawless. A relationship where agreements
- 26:23are broken loses respect and love quickly.
- 26:33And I want you to imagine seeing that version of you up on that
- 26:36screen, handling that situation when you're clearly
- 26:43communicating and you are resolute in your consequences.
- 26:51And I want you to see that that version of you is not stubborn,
- 26:59not headstrong, but steadfast. And the only circumstances that
- 27:07things would change, as if something has materially
- 27:12changed, that might be a level of accountability, that might be
- 27:21evidence, it might be something else.
- 27:27And even then, I want you to see that version of you that even if
- 27:32facts have changed that nature to believe in people, to hope
- 27:43for the best, that impulse moment is reflected upon,
- 27:50carefully considered. And even if it's agreed, it
- 27:58becomes conditional. Not a flip flop, not a
- 28:06backtrack, but a new agreement, clearly communicated with
- 28:13consequences clearly communicated, stated in if X
- 28:21then Y. There is clarity, but only if
- 28:31after careful consideration, it makes sense to do that.
- 28:39Many people perceive an act of kindness to be an act of
- 28:44weakness. Too much consideration, too much
- 28:49kindness just means respect goes down, not up.
- 28:57And what you've seen that memory the way you would want it to be
- 29:05with these qualities and this way of making a strong decision.
- 29:15When you see yourself holding the line, let me know by nodding
- 29:17your head and then rewind it to the beginning.
- 29:23Step into the screen and then feel what it would feel like
- 29:28from that first person perspective to do things the way
- 29:31you would have wanted to have done if that same level of
- 29:35personal resolve was there in interpersonal situations.
- 29:41Holding onto the rule that if it feels like you're afraid of a
- 29:47conversation, then you must have that conversation.
- 29:53That when you communicate things clearly, you've now communicated
- 29:59the line. If the line gets crossed, that's
- 30:05either a chance or a consequence.
- 30:11An intent is important there. If someone disrespectfully,
- 30:17defiantly crosses the line, clearly communicated, there's no
- 30:22need for a chance because the intent is malicious.
- 30:28If, however, the intention is good but the line gets crossed,
- 30:35it's a wonderful opportunity for a chance.
- 30:42But if the intention is good. And the line continues to be
- 30:46crossed. The consequence is inevitable,
- 30:51not because you're being unfair, but because it simply can't be
- 31:00this way going forward. When people show you who they
- 31:05are, accept it, believe it, knowing that they can also
- 31:11change in the future if they desire.
- 31:13And once you've lived that that memory the way you would want it
- 31:21to be, leave the screen. And then imagine seeing no
- 31:29longer a memory on that screen, but the future.
- 31:35And let's call this future preparation.
- 31:41I want you to imagine the next three to five years as a
- 31:46wonderful opportunity to clearly communicate your wishes, your
- 31:55fears, your hopes and dreams, but your worries, your
- 32:00insecurities. And I want you to see see how
- 32:07much lack of surprises there is when that version of you oozing
- 32:16confidence, oozing a sense of resolve and courage, feels
- 32:27liberated to communicate anything and everything that's
- 32:34important as part of preparation.
- 32:41So much so that when the time finally comes, there is no
- 32:46confusion, no ambiguities, no uncertainty.
- 32:55There is simply clarity. If someone could shrug their
- 33:03shoulders and say but I didn't know, then there was
- 33:09insufficient preparation. Either that or it's a lie.
- 33:17I want you to see doing whatever preparation would reduce the
- 33:22probability of your biggest fears, future feelings of
- 33:29disconnection, future conflict, a lack of inclusiveness or
- 33:41consideration. I want you to see that
- 33:47conversations, hypothetical scenarios, they're giving you
- 33:56everything you need to lay the foundations to build something
- 34:03strong. And you might find that those
- 34:12key elements of inclusiveness, consideration and respect.
- 34:20You get to see situations and scenarios in real life that
- 34:30don't directly affect your family yet, but you treat them
- 34:37like test cases. Could be a niece or a nephew.
- 34:45It could be a different person entirely, and if you observe
- 34:56things that would cross the line if they link to your family,
- 35:04then rather than feeling burdened or conflicted, what if
- 35:11that is the ideal opportunity to have the conversation when it's
- 35:17less personal, so that the lines are clear way in advance before
- 35:26it is personal, I want you to give permission to your future
- 35:36self to communicate clearly and to feel empowered to have
- 35:48consequences if they're necessary.
- 35:52Not because you want them, but because the fear of any
- 35:59consequences increases the probability of the very conflict
- 36:08you're keen to avoid. Imagine leaving that cinema with
- 36:14a sense of you are primed to harness resolve in any
- 36:22interpersonal situations and allow yourself to float back to
- 36:27the present. Taking a deep breath in through
- 36:31your nose and out through your nose.
- 36:35Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes as I count from 1:00 to
- 36:3910:00 to awaken you. 123 Waking up. 456 More alert. 7-8 Open
- 36:49your eyes, Open your eyes. 910 Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 36:56awake. Thank.
