- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money. The podcast
- 0:19Speaker 2: and Millennials who Want Financial Freedom Today is a money
- 0:22Speaker 2: diary episode, and I think this is quite.
- 0:24Speaker 3: An interesting one, Vie. Do you want to read that email?
- 0:26Speaker 1: I do so. This is from someone who's called themselves
- 0:30Speaker 1: divorced with no financial skills, and she says, I've just
- 0:33Speaker 1: recently divorced after seven years of marriage and fourteen years
- 0:37Speaker 1: in the relationship. I'm a personal assistant in a law
- 0:40Speaker 1: firm with no university qualifications. I had never managed finances
- 0:44Speaker 1: on my own in my adult life, and the prospect
- 0:46Speaker 1: of doing this alone was incredibly daunting. I had to
- 0:50Speaker 1: move out of the property we shared and into a
- 0:52Speaker 1: sharehouse for a couple of months to get some money together.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Then I moved into a rental property a couple of
- 0:57Speaker 1: months after that. I had to take on debt from
- 0:59Speaker 1: our car loan, and I also had to buy everything
- 1:02Speaker 1: for my new apartment or my credit card. Eighteen months
- 1:05Speaker 1: down the track, we sold a property that we owned
- 1:08Speaker 1: and split it fifty to fifty. It wasn't loads of money,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but I did pay off my car loan, my credit card,
- 1:13Speaker 1: and I was able to start an emergency fund. I'm
- 1:15Speaker 1: currently in the process of talking to a financial advisor
- 1:18Speaker 1: about investing some of the remaining money because I don't
- 1:21Speaker 1: want to buy a property at this point. It's been
- 1:23Speaker 1: scary learning how to manage and budget on my own.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Never did I think I'd be able to afford to
- 1:28Speaker 1: rent a beautiful apartment completely on my own, have some
- 1:31Speaker 1: savings and be thinking about investings and money as I
- 1:34Speaker 1: was under the impression that I was rubbish with money
- 1:36Speaker 1: this whole time.
- 1:38Speaker 3: What do you think of that story?
- 1:39Speaker 1: V I think it's so common. I genuinely think that
- 1:42Speaker 1: there are going to be people listening to this that
- 1:45Speaker 1: are like, ah, change the years in the relationship, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: that is my story.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yep, unbelievable.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Now, Hello money Dires, thanks for joining us today.
- 1:53Speaker 4: A new problem, Hello Visa.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Fair to say that already we're like quite proud of
- 1:58Speaker 2: someone who's just you.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Know a lot.
- 2:01Speaker 1: What a legend. You've gone from not knowing at all
- 2:04Speaker 1: to being in a situation where you're talking to a
- 2:06Speaker 1: financial advisor about investing what I know? Who is she?
- 2:13Speaker 1: Are you proud of this journey that you've been on?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, immensely prode. It's been it's been scary, like
- 2:21Speaker 4: it's been scary, and obviously it's been like traumatics. Probably
- 2:25Speaker 4: the yeah, yeah, probably actually is, especially like you know,
- 2:31Speaker 4: no family over here and all the rest of it.
- 2:33Speaker 4: But it's yeah, I'm very very proud of where I
- 2:36Speaker 4: am at the moment. It's been a couple of years,
- 2:39Speaker 4: but I've done it.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. I love that and I can't wait
- 2:42Speaker 1: to have a chat with you. But in very traditional
- 2:45Speaker 1: she's on the money money diary sense, let's jump straight
- 2:48Speaker 1: into the questions and I'll save all my pervio questions
- 2:51Speaker 1: for the end. Is that all right?
- 2:53Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:53Speaker 1: No, broad perfection. So let's start off with what is
- 2:56Speaker 1: your current attitude towards money and how has it changed.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I'm much more I'm much more careful with it. A
- 3:03Speaker 4: few years back back, when you know, still married, I
- 3:05Speaker 4: was very sort of I like I said in the email,
- 3:08Speaker 4: I was always under the impression that I wasn't very
- 3:12Speaker 4: good with it, and I don't think that was actually
- 3:14Speaker 4: the case. I guess I just didn't have the opportunity
- 3:16Speaker 4: to have some independence with it. I'm careful with it,
- 3:22Speaker 4: but I'm also not scared of it. Anymore either. I
- 3:25Speaker 4: was money was always a massive worry, and I'm not
- 3:29Speaker 4: so scared of it.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I love you said you're not scared of it anymore,
- 3:32Speaker 1: because yes, it's so common. Regardless of whether you're in
- 3:35Speaker 1: debt or not in debt, or you know, in a
- 3:38Speaker 1: situation where you have a good income or not, there
- 3:41Speaker 1: are a lot of people who are genuinely worried about money.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It's not good and that's what we're working towards. But
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm so glad that you were out of it.
- 3:49Speaker 3: All right.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So what do you do for work? And how much
- 3:52Speaker 1: do you currently earn?
- 3:54Speaker 4: Okay, so I'm a PA in a law firm and
- 3:57Speaker 4: I'm currently on seventy five exclusive a super.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And that's pretty good. That's not bad. Hold on, that's
- 4:04Speaker 1: not bad for someone who said that you had no
- 4:06Speaker 1: unique qualifications. Yeah, killing it.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I'm pretty pleased with it. You know, it's
- 4:12Speaker 4: definitely like paper bills.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Is it too pervy to ask how old you are?
- 4:16Speaker 4: I'm thirty four.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Oh that's good. Yeah, that is very good.
- 4:20Speaker 2: We have a money narist in a few weeks who
- 4:23Speaker 2: I think their name is going to be the only
- 4:25Speaker 2: one in the boardroom without a university degree or who's
- 4:28Speaker 2: finished high school.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Oh, that's amazing, killing it, killing it, yeah, because sorry
- 4:36Speaker 4: to sidetrackers, there's often a lot of chatter.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I don't have a degree, so it's going to limit
- 4:39Speaker 2: my options. But I mean not always.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Okay, yes, isn't it?
- 4:44Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, exactly exactly. Sometimes get out there and get
- 4:47Speaker 4: the experience, you know, that's always it's the best sometimes
- 4:50Speaker 4: the better way.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Definitely. All right, So how do you feel about investing
- 4:54Speaker 1: and do you currently invest?
- 4:57Speaker 4: Okay, so I'm currently I've got this faceship and the
- 5:02Speaker 4: raise apps and basically just through listening to you guys,
- 5:07Speaker 4: so I was just sort of gabbling just to see
- 5:08Speaker 4: how I felt, you know, get essentially, just get your
- 5:12Speaker 4: confidence up with it, see how it works. I mean,
- 5:14Speaker 4: I still don't. I don't massively, you know, I don't
- 5:17Speaker 4: have a massive understanding of it. But I find it
- 5:20Speaker 4: quite interesting watching it go up and down. And as
- 5:24Speaker 4: I said in the email, I'm currently talking to a
- 5:27Speaker 4: financial advisor about investing the rest of the money. I
- 5:32Speaker 4: feel pretty like it's a bit daunting. It's a bit
- 5:35Speaker 4: scary to to not be keeping it in savings, but
- 5:39Speaker 4: also it's exciting. It's exciting to be thinking about doing
- 5:43Speaker 4: something like that.
- 5:44Speaker 1: So one percent, I'm really excited for you.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, Now I'm like I said, it's a it's
- 5:50Speaker 4: a bit daunted because you know, I think most people,
- 5:53Speaker 4: you know, you, just don't ever think that you would
- 5:55Speaker 4: have a I don't know, share portfolio. It's just sounds
- 5:58Speaker 4: really odd to say that, but it's it's awesome.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it is awesome, and there'll be more people because
- 6:03Speaker 1: of that. She's on the Money podcast investing, and I'm
- 6:07Speaker 1: genuinely so proud of that, Like it makes me so
- 6:10Speaker 1: great that people should be.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you should be, because honestly, I wouldn't have
- 6:15Speaker 4: been if it wasn't for the podcast. There's no way
- 6:19Speaker 4: I would have thought about investing.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Yes yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Back to questions, back to questions, what the debt? Do
- 6:27Speaker 1: you currently have zero? Zero debt? Well completely after all.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Of that, yes, yeah, yeah, I was in a fair
- 6:35Speaker 4: bit of debt, so.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yeah, a queen, I love it.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Just a quick Well, what was the moment like when
- 6:40Speaker 2: you said, yeah, you know, you split the property proceeds
- 6:44Speaker 2: fifty to fifty and that moment where you just went bang,
- 6:48Speaker 2: credit card gone, how did it feel?
- 6:50Speaker 4: Relief? Complete relief, like not that panic about living, because
- 6:55Speaker 4: I mean and most people do, and you know, it's
- 6:58Speaker 4: still a learning process, but not live paycheck to paycheck
- 7:01Speaker 4: desperately trying to scrabble together money to pay off you know,
- 7:05Speaker 4: a loan, a credit card, well to credit cards actually,
- 7:08Speaker 4: and then you know, pay bills, make sure you're also living.
- 7:12Speaker 4: So relief, complete and utter relief.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So did you celebrate in any way?
- 7:17Speaker 4: Yes? Yeah, yeah, yeah, went out for a meal with
- 7:19Speaker 4: friends and my current partner. So yeah, I love that.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I love that everybody is celebrating with you too. Yeah yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: all right. Next question is what is your best money habit.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I guess my best money money habit would be budgeting.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I'm pretty good now. I wasn't before, but it's budgeting.
- 7:38Speaker 4: I've got like a little spreadsheet that I have like
- 7:41Speaker 4: a couple of months ahead, if you know, I do
- 7:44Speaker 4: a couple of months ahead. I have the bills that
- 7:46Speaker 4: I'm expecting to come out, and you know, your your
- 7:50Speaker 4: the usual expenses and just making sure that I thought,
- 7:53Speaker 4: I try and follow that as best I can do.
- 7:55Speaker 2: You have the She's on the Money cash Flow and
- 7:58Speaker 2: Budgeting Masterclass, No, I don't and I should shouldn't. I, Well,
- 8:02Speaker 2: we'll send you Victoria and I will send you one
- 8:04Speaker 2: for free.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Okay after this, Okay, cool, thank you.
- 8:08Speaker 3: You're welcome. It's really great.
- 8:09Speaker 2: It'll set yourself up and it sounds like the spreadsheets
- 8:11Speaker 2: are doing a pretty good job. But I think you'll
- 8:13Speaker 2: be as nerdy as thrilled to say how easy it is.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, every little help.
- 8:19Speaker 1: That's awesome than the spreadsheet I've created. Very proud of me.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Spread Moving on in comparison to that, what is your
- 8:29Speaker 1: worst money?
- 8:30Speaker 2: Have it?
- 8:31Speaker 4: Buying things that I don't need? I'm an impulse buyer.
- 8:37Speaker 1: It gets the best of us.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, sort of like, oh, well I'll treat yourself.
- 8:41Speaker 4: I deserve it. You know you've been really good this month,
- 8:43Speaker 4: or oh, I don't know, you've had a bit as
- 8:45Speaker 4: a crap day or something like that. So yeah, that's
- 8:48Speaker 4: that's my worst.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Definitely, that's fair enough. I think, very relatable to Yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 1: what kind of things I know for me?
- 8:55Speaker 4: New cars or is it nac Yeah, no, it would
- 9:00Speaker 4: usually I'm a fan of ku Kai, so yeah, rolling
- 9:04Speaker 4: past there and having a little look at the jewelry
- 9:06Speaker 4: or any top ku Kai and I'm a nightmare for avoid.
- 9:12Speaker 2: All right, when you said cook, what's the name of
- 9:17Speaker 2: a stationary store?
- 9:18Speaker 3: Kik?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yes, okay, So when you said cook, I imagine and
- 9:23Speaker 2: I was like, okay, Like everyone's got their things.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Like to go back like multiple times a week, like
- 9:30Speaker 3: just picked up.
- 9:30Speaker 1: That's me. There is a kigik store in is it imporium?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Hearing that and he's right beside the food court, and
- 9:38Speaker 1: I always go back with like new stationary. I don't need.
- 9:42Speaker 4: The diaries. I love a paper diary.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yes, And everything's so aesthetic and you're like, yeah, life together,
- 9:50Speaker 1: and then you don't. You just don't alright away from
- 9:56Speaker 1: cook and Kik? What is your b A good money
- 9:59Speaker 1: goal the moment.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Is to invest. I definitely definitely want to invest, and
- 10:06Speaker 4: for in fifteen so years, just see where we're at
- 10:10Speaker 4: with that. I want to be I want what's the
- 10:14Speaker 4: word financially not? I just I just want to be
- 10:19Speaker 4: in the best place possible in fifteen twenty years financially
- 10:23Speaker 4: so that I can I'm not I'm not continuously worrying
- 10:28Speaker 4: about money. I don't want to be in debt.
- 10:30Speaker 1: She wants to be financially free.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I was going to say financial freedom she wants.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm the word I'm looking for. Yeah, I want
- 10:37Speaker 4: financial freedom, That's what I want.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. And I think a
- 10:40Speaker 1: lot of people think that financial freedom is having, you know,
- 10:43Speaker 1: hopes and hopes of money and you never have to
- 10:46Speaker 1: work another day in your life, and that is definitely
- 10:48Speaker 1: one of the outcomes, but also two in fifteen twenty years,
- 10:51Speaker 1: just feel so financially secure that you know, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 1: just keep working, but everything's going to be all right.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And if you know something, yeah, a fan, it'll be
- 10:59Speaker 1: all right because I got exactly.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Yeah, it's exactly that. Just to be comfortable to know
- 11:03Speaker 4: that if something went wrong, I've got enough money to
- 11:06Speaker 4: see me, to see me by you know, I'm under
- 11:10Speaker 4: the illusions. I know I'm not going to be able
- 11:12Speaker 4: to stop working.
- 11:13Speaker 1: That's not that's all right.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's and that's fine, that's absolutely fine. But
- 11:17Speaker 4: just financial freedom, just to not have to worry.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Well for me, I when I hear financial freedom, I
- 11:25Speaker 2: think free of stress, free of worry, free of not
- 11:28Speaker 2: being out of sleep.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's kind of what it means to me
- 11:31Speaker 1: as well. A lot of people think it's like that
- 11:33Speaker 1: stage of retirement where you have one hundred percent investment
- 11:36Speaker 1: portfolio that provides your full income. I get that, but
- 11:38Speaker 1: I just want to be able to sleep well at night.
- 11:40Speaker 1: And if I woke up tomorrow and for some reason,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I had no income coming in, I'd be all right
- 11:45Speaker 1: to find another job.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly like you wouldn't need you wouldn't need to
- 11:49Speaker 4: rely on your credit card to get.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You from absolutely all right. To wrap the questions, what
- 11:55Speaker 1: grade would you give your money habits? If I forced
- 11:57Speaker 1: you to give yourself a grade?
- 11:59Speaker 4: I was thinking about this earlier. I'd probably go, I
- 12:02Speaker 4: don't be minus.
- 12:04Speaker 1: A B minus.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a bit.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It's a big clash on yourself given what you've gone through.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, I know. But there's moys room for improvement,
- 12:15Speaker 4: isn't it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: There has been maybe like A minus.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Maybe a B. Then I'll go a B plus. There
- 12:23Speaker 4: we go, I'll go a B plus.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm mom, I'm glad.
- 12:25Speaker 3: We're so knowing what you know? Now? How would you
- 12:31Speaker 3: grade yourself three years ago? Financially?
- 12:36Speaker 4: An eye check that out.
- 12:43Speaker 1: If I was a parent and you brought home an
- 12:44Speaker 1: A report card and then my three years later, you're
- 12:47Speaker 1: a B plus. I'd be pretty happy with you, that is.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm yeah, I'm pretty, I'm pretty tough. It's been
- 12:54Speaker 4: a massive learning curve, but it's been awesome.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I love that. All Right, Well, I've got so many
- 12:58Speaker 1: questions for you, and get right to them in a
- 13:01Speaker 1: hot minute.
- 13:09Speaker 2: All right, we're talking to divorced with no finance skills.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Although I feel like that's.
- 13:14Speaker 1: That's a lie, that's a lie and lie. I feel
- 13:16Speaker 1: like it should have said I was once married with
- 13:19Speaker 1: no finance skills, that's.
- 13:20Speaker 3: The updated and now divorced and killing it.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, I love this. I have a question, right,
- 13:27Speaker 1: so everybody enters a marriage with the intention of forever, Right, Like,
- 13:31Speaker 1: did you ever financially structure yourself or think about it
- 13:35Speaker 1: when going into your first marriage that maybe it wouldn't
- 13:38Speaker 1: be a long lasting relationship.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Not at all, No, not at all. We were we
- 13:43Speaker 4: were young when we got together. You know, we did
- 13:46Speaker 4: the usual. You save a little bit, you spend it,
- 13:49Speaker 4: you save a little bit, spend it. But no, there
- 13:51Speaker 4: was no way that we were thinking that far ahead
- 13:55Speaker 4: at all.
- 13:56Speaker 2: When did you realize that you had a big sort
- 14:00Speaker 2: of shortcomings in what you've been taught. Like, was there
- 14:03Speaker 2: one specific moment where you went, oh my god, I
- 14:06Speaker 2: actually don't know the money stuff someone else did that.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Was there a specific moment where that all kind of
- 14:11Speaker 3: hit you and you realized it.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Yeah, when right at the end when I was moving out, Yeah,
- 14:18Speaker 4: that was the scariest part. You're just there in this
- 14:22Speaker 4: space and you're just like, I only have myself now
- 14:27Speaker 4: to pay for everything, and I don't know if I
- 14:30Speaker 4: can do this. It's a honest answer.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And is that that feels terrifying and really over Oh it?
- 14:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it was massively, Like it's the scariest, scariest feeling.
- 14:41Speaker 4: And like I said, like my family are obviously overseas
- 14:44Speaker 4: so and I've got good friends obviously, But yeah, that's
- 14:48Speaker 4: that feeling where you just stood there and you're just like,
- 14:51Speaker 4: holy crap, like this is this is me, I'm on
- 14:54Speaker 4: my own.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And what did you do to start getting on the
- 14:57Speaker 1: road to understanding finances a little bit better? What was
- 15:00Speaker 1: your first step?
- 15:01Speaker 4: I just started googling and just doing a bit of
- 15:04Speaker 4: research and trying to just just putting money aside, not lots,
- 15:09Speaker 4: I couldn't put lots away, but just just trying to
- 15:12Speaker 4: put some money aside, and then I just think, honestly, like,
- 15:16Speaker 4: then I came across your like this podcast, and I
- 15:21Speaker 4: just started listening to it in just thinking, okay, so
- 15:24Speaker 4: because I think most people would be under the impression
- 15:28Speaker 4: that you you save and you buy a house, and
- 15:31Speaker 4: I thought that was the only option, and being singled
- 15:34Speaker 4: as well, that almost wasn't an option. So I was
- 15:38Speaker 4: just assuming that I would just have to save and
- 15:40Speaker 4: put money into into a savings account and leave it there,
- 15:43Speaker 4: and you can afford to buy when you can afford
- 15:45Speaker 4: to buy. But I think, yeah, just just doing a
- 15:49Speaker 4: little bit of research on the internet, listening to your podcast, honestly,
- 15:52Speaker 4: and I bought, you know, a couple of the usual books,
- 15:55Speaker 4: the box, standard books, every yeah.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's that everybody goes on.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, And like it was interesting, it's good, you know,
- 16:06Speaker 4: I don't want to buy anything. I'm not sure if.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Here in my book's out on the sixteenth of June,
- 16:16Speaker 1: if anybody.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I want to get.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Now that you've you know, you've done some research and
- 16:24Speaker 2: read books, you'll listen to podcasts. It kind of seemed
- 16:27Speaker 2: like you decided that you weren't good with money and
- 16:30Speaker 2: it's not that you weren't good with money, it's just
- 16:31Speaker 2: that no one had ever really taught you. So now
- 16:33Speaker 2: that you have sort of taught yourself, is there such
- 16:36Speaker 2: thing as I'm not that type of person that's good
- 16:38Speaker 2: with money or is it more just I haven't learned
- 16:40Speaker 2: it yet.
- 16:41Speaker 4: No, I think it's is learning. I just have. You know,
- 16:45Speaker 4: it's one of those things you're not obviously you're not
- 16:47Speaker 4: taught it in school. Your parents do the best that
- 16:50Speaker 4: they can do, but you know they're not really you know,
- 16:53Speaker 4: they tell you to say, even that's that, but actually,
- 16:57Speaker 4: like budgeting and all the rest of it, like you Yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 4: I think I think everyone can do it. I really do.
- 17:05Speaker 4: It's just it takes time, and it takes it takes effort, right,
- 17:09Speaker 4: Like you can't just do it in two minutes and
- 17:12Speaker 4: you've got your budget for the rest of the month,
- 17:14Speaker 4: like you actually do have to and sometimes you have
- 17:16Speaker 4: to be strict with yourself.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I mean, this might be a really weird thing to
- 17:20Speaker 2: add in, but I've read lots of books on like
- 17:22Speaker 2: creativity and stuff like that, and I find that the same.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So many people go, oh, no, no, I'm not a
- 17:27Speaker 2: creative type. And I say, well, no, like it's it's
- 17:30Speaker 2: like going to the gym. You just start exercising, you
- 17:32Speaker 2: start practicing, and you get stronger and better at it.
- 17:34Speaker 2: And I think finance skills are the same. So when
- 17:36Speaker 2: when I hear people go, oh, I'm just I'm not
- 17:38Speaker 2: good with money, well maybe yeah you're not now, but
- 17:42Speaker 2: that doesn't mean.
- 17:43Speaker 3: You have to be fair.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah exactly. You literally, you know, you can change
- 17:46Speaker 4: that in an instant, you can. I mean the biggest
- 17:50Speaker 4: thing that I did was sit down, write what was
- 17:53Speaker 4: coming in and what was going out, and then I
- 17:56Speaker 4: you know, and that was a big eye opener. You know,
- 17:59Speaker 4: you start relation that you probably spending and I was
- 18:03Speaker 4: a certain point of spending more than I was actually
- 18:06Speaker 4: bringing in, which is why you know your credit cards.
- 18:09Speaker 3: I had to get wealthy.
- 18:11Speaker 2: When that's the situation you have many people got rich
- 18:14Speaker 2: that you know, who spend more than they make.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Absolutely, man, I'm sorry burst that bubble. I think it's
- 18:19Speaker 1: actually just talking about that for a second. It's a
- 18:22Speaker 1: bit about mindset as well, because so many people will
- 18:25Speaker 1: say stuff like oh, I'm not good at instead of
- 18:27Speaker 1: replacing that with well what am I missing here? And
- 18:30Speaker 1: just getting all the education that they need because we
- 18:34Speaker 1: are smart people. And I've said this to Ryan so
- 18:36Speaker 1: many times. We're smart people. We just haven't been given
- 18:39Speaker 1: those tools yet. We have to search them out ourselves,
- 18:42Speaker 1: and when we have them. I think it's interesting to
- 18:45Speaker 1: know how easy it can be and how not overwhelming
- 18:48Speaker 1: it is. And is that something that you just wish
- 18:52Speaker 1: you knew what you know today when you were in
- 18:54Speaker 1: that moment of moving out and going through that knowing, Hey,
- 18:59Speaker 1: even if someone had said, hey, it's actually not as
- 19:01Speaker 1: hard as you think it's going to be.
- 19:03Speaker 4: With that shadow of doubt, Like I said, I always
- 19:05Speaker 4: thought I was rubbish with money. I was kind of
- 19:07Speaker 4: told that I was rubbish with money, so you start
- 19:10Speaker 4: believing that that's the case. I almost wish but I
- 19:14Speaker 4: could go you know the me now, could go back
- 19:17Speaker 4: to the me two years ago and just say, do
- 19:20Speaker 4: you know what, Honestly, everything will be okay. You are
- 19:23Speaker 4: completely capable. You absolutely have got this. Please don't be scared.
- 19:27Speaker 1: There are a lot of people listening to this podcast
- 19:29Speaker 1: that needed to hear exactly what you just said, is
- 19:31Speaker 1: not as hard. You've got your own back, You'll be okay.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And I think, yeah, not enough times do you hear
- 19:38Speaker 1: that when you're in a really dark place or going
- 19:40Speaker 1: through a situation that feels overwhelming, you just think that
- 19:43Speaker 1: everything is going to be as hard as that moment
- 19:45Speaker 1: is in that time.
- 19:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, and it's absolutely And don't get me wrong,
- 19:50Speaker 4: it is hard. It is. But like you, if I
- 19:53Speaker 4: could say anything to anyone out there who's going through
- 19:55Speaker 4: the same thing, it sounds like such a cliche, but
- 19:59Speaker 4: it does does get better at will one hundred percent.
- 20:02Speaker 4: You just be proactive, be patient, be kind to yourself,
- 20:06Speaker 4: you know, don't bereate yourself, don't punish yourself. You will
- 20:09Speaker 4: get there.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I want you to follow me around.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I was gonna say I have more final questions, but
- 20:14Speaker 2: more of a question for U v our money. Dire
- 20:17Speaker 2: said they've started with Rais and Spaceship doesn't fully understand it,
- 20:23Speaker 2: but is interested in seeing it go up and down.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I would always say the best way to learn something
- 20:28Speaker 2: is to put a couple of spare dollars in there,
- 20:29Speaker 2: and the best place to start is watching it going
- 20:32Speaker 2: up and down and trying to get a vibe. Do
- 20:35Speaker 2: you have to wait to be an expert to invest
- 20:37Speaker 2: or do you become an expert by doing the thing.
- 20:40Speaker 1: You become an expert by doing the thing. And you
- 20:42Speaker 1: know what, I was thinking about this the other day.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Do you know how many people I talk to about
- 20:46Speaker 1: their jobs every week and they'll say, Oh, my gosh,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I went to UNI, I learned all of this stuff.
- 20:52Speaker 1: But you know what, in the first year of me
- 20:54Speaker 1: working my actual job, that's when I learned everything I needed.
- 20:57Speaker 1: And so so many people will go to Universe City
- 21:00Speaker 1: and they'll learn every single theory they need to know.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And I would akin that to investing. You can go
- 21:06Speaker 1: learn absolutely everything when it comes to theory and what
- 21:09Speaker 1: the market looks like and how shares and dividends are
- 21:12Speaker 1: paid out and what all of that looks like, and
- 21:14Speaker 1: you still feel overwhelmed because you haven't done your grad
- 21:16Speaker 1: job yet. I see Rais and Spaceship as kind of
- 21:19Speaker 1: that grad job, getting in there, actually seeing what the
- 21:22Speaker 1: job is like and seeing how it works, and you know,
- 21:25Speaker 1: actually getting those hands on skills to then graduate at
- 21:28Speaker 1: some point to your big girl job and that might
- 21:31Speaker 1: be your bigger investment portfolio. But I think there's such
- 21:33Speaker 1: powerful tools and they are absolutely an investment in your
- 21:36Speaker 1: financial literacy.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:38Speaker 2: So, and I just think that the fact that you've
- 21:41Speaker 2: said I don't fully understand it, but this is where
- 21:43Speaker 2: I'm going to start. Like what a great place to start.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Exactly are you mean your grad job of investing.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just just yeah, it's it's good. It's just interesting.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Just what your confidence with it? I think?
- 21:55Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, I have loved this chat with you. Thank
- 21:58Speaker 1: you so so much for joining us.
- 22:00Speaker 3: We're so super proud of you.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I know that's weird to say that to someone who's
- 22:03Speaker 2: not met in person, but we're sitting here like nodding
- 22:05Speaker 2: her head, going yeah, she's got it.
- 22:07Speaker 3: We love her.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Yeah, we love us.

- 23:36Speaker 2: But also I'm loving the little sort of would you
