- 0:33Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:37I'm Lindsay Vernick and today is August 3rd, 2026.
- 0:41Hey guys, what's going on? I hope you had a great weekend. Just a reminder to
- 0:47please share this podcast with somebody that you know and if you are like my
- 0:51mom and have no idea how to do that, love you mom, you are just gonna like,
- 0:57oh fuck I don't know how to explain it but yeah make sure that you share it
- 1:02just figure it out or like phone a friend ask them how to do it and also make
- 1:06sure you sign up for the summer residency spots are filling up so make sure
- 1:11you get the day that you want.
- 1:13In real news, the Justice Department dropped its criminal case against Olympic
- 1:18canoeist David Hearn, who had been accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
- 1:25When the charges were first announced, prosecutors claimed that he caused hundreds
- 1:29of thousands of dollars in damage, all because he just, like,
- 1:32picked up a little piece off the pool that was literally coming off.
- 1:37He was literally charged a felony, and he could have been in prison for years for this.
- 1:42But plot twist after reviewing new evidence like okay,
- 1:47including construction records and engineering documents the government now
- 1:52says the pool was likely caused by problems with the pool's installation and
- 1:56a rushed bashed renovation job not by the random olympian who walked by,
- 2:02i mean if you literally touch something and it falls apart.
- 2:06Proves how poorly it was built. The weird part, or really actually,
- 2:10you know, not so weird part, is that Trump says he disagrees 100% with his own
- 2:15Justice Department's decision to drop the case and still believes that Hearn was responsible.
- 2:21So now, of course, Hearn's attorneys are not considering going after the DOJ
- 2:24for all of this defamation.
- 2:27Nothing like sending an Olympian to prison because a contractor for the government
- 2:31couldn't do their job well.
- 2:33In what can only be described as a cry for help, Domino's has introduced a garlic and herb ice cream.
- 2:40Yes, garlic ice cream, which makes me wonder what kind of executives are working
- 2:46there to allow this one to go through.
- 2:49The dessert is inspired by the chain's famous garlic and herb dip and is being
- 2:53offered as a limited time promotion.
- 2:56People are pretty split online. Some people are curious enough to try it and
- 3:01other people are reacting the same way most people react when someone says I've
- 3:06got a great startup idea.
- 3:08We've all had olive oil ice cream, bacon ice cream, and even ranch flavored everything.
- 3:14But garlic ice cream feels like the food equivalent of texting your ex at 2am.
- 3:19Just because you can doesn't mean that you should.
- 3:23And if your date says yes to garlic ice cream, after dinner,
- 3:27you've skipped straight to the we're comfortable each other phase of the relationship.
- 3:32Domino's says it's meant to capture the flavor of its iconic dip in a sweet creamy dessert.
- 3:38Finally, a dessert that allows you to get a brain freeze and bad breath at the same exact time.
- 3:45Okay, so before you panic book that week in getaway, listen up.
- 3:49American Airlines has very low-key changed its cancellation and refund policy.
- 3:54Like, didn't really announce it at all.
- 3:57But now it's making it harder for people to get their money back after booking flights.
- 4:02So their old policy was that anyone who purchased a ticket at least two days
- 4:06before they left could cancel within 24 hours and receive a full refund.
- 4:12But now American is changing that.
- 4:14So now you have to purchase your ticket at least seven days before departure
- 4:18in order to qualify for that 24-hour refund window.
- 4:21And this applies regardless of what kind of ticket you bought.
- 4:25The change mainly affects anyone who buys last-minute tickets.
- 4:29So if you're the person who books a flight two days before a wedding,
- 4:32concert, or just the, you know, you want to go to Miami this weekend text,
- 4:36you now have less time to change your mind.
- 4:39American says they're now on the same wavelength with competitors like JetBlue,
- 4:44Southwest, and United, which already have the seven-day requirement.
- 4:49However, Delta, though, has a way more flexible policy, which makes American's
- 4:54change a lot more noticeable.
- 4:57Now, to be clear, this doesn't mean American is banning refunds altogether.
- 5:01It means that the automatic 24-hour cancellation option now comes with a way stricter timeline.
- 5:07So airlines continue their favorite hobby, finding new ways to make booking
- 5:11a flight feel like you're signing a mortgage.
- 5:14You have to pay for your seat, pay for your bag, pay extra to sit near your
- 5:18family, and now you better be absolutely sure before you click purchase.
- 5:23So the lesson is simple. If you're a flying American, maybe sleep on that ticket
- 5:28purchase for a few minutes before heading confirm.
- 5:32And according to American, the only thing that should be spontaneous is the
- 5:35vacation itself, not the decision to go on it.
- 5:39In Lindsay life, okay, I have a crazy story for you guys. So I was down the
- 5:44shore for the last time this summer. I know, so sad.
- 5:47Down at the Jersey Shore with my family down in Ventenor. It's like next to
- 5:51Atlantic City, whatever. It doesn't matter.
- 5:54But it is funny that I say I went to the beach because I never go to the beach when I'm down there.
- 5:58My family like has a little pool outside in the backyard and we just like lounge
- 6:05around that all day because like why I schlep all the way down to the beach.
- 6:08You have everything that you need at the house.
- 6:10The water, the sun, the bathroom, the drinks, the snacks.
- 6:14We have it all right there. So I leaned. Anyway, this is besides the point of the story.
- 6:19So my grandmother, my mom, she has this adorable little dog named Gigi.
- 6:25Like when I tell you that she looks like a.
- 6:29Toy dog that actually like comes to life like I'm not kidding,
- 6:33so the other day my mom comes back inside from Gigi from being out back with her and walking her,
- 6:39and she's telling us how Gigi is like obsessed with this rabbit and like really
- 6:44wants to find this rabbit so she can play with her and my aunt was like listen
- 6:49I don't think Gigi wants to play with the rabbit I think she wants to eat the rabbit.
- 6:54And my mom was like, oh my God, how dare you say such a thing?
- 6:58Gigi would never, ever hurt a rabbit. Like she literally just wants to play
- 7:03with the rabbit. Like they're literally the same size to give you an idea,
- 7:06like a wild rabbit, right?
- 7:08So Saturday, some of us were hanging out in the backyard. It was like the middle of the afternoon.
- 7:14Some of us were in the pool. Some of us were just like eating lunch,
- 7:18like, you know, just hanging out.
- 7:20And the rabbit comes out and the rabbit starts hopping and Gigi sees and Gigi
- 7:27starts chasing the rabbit around the pool and we are all screaming at the top of our lungs for Gigi,
- 7:34they're racing around the edge
- 7:36of the pool so then the rabbit to get away from Gigi jumps into the pool
- 7:44and swims across she the rabbit she or he or whatever this baby rabbit swims
- 7:49probably like six or seven feet across hops out and runs away.
- 7:56It was like the craziest thing like i literally saw a wild bunny swimming in
- 8:01the water to escape this like little tiny toy puppy.
- 8:06So let's hope that the baby rabbit doesn't come back and prove to my mom what
- 8:12we all know would happen if a dog is around a rabbit.
- 8:17Thing of the week this week is Europe battling these massive wildfires.
- 8:22Like, it's actually really bad what's going on right now.
- 8:26Europe is dealing with its worst wildfire season in recent years.
- 8:30France, Spain, Portugal, and Greece are battling major fires from extreme heat,
- 8:35dry conditions, and powerful winds.
- 8:37Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate as the fires spread through
- 8:41forests, towns, and popular tourist areas.
- 8:44In Greece, the situation became even more tragic when two firefighting helicopter
- 8:49crew members were killed when they were trying to put them out.
- 8:53They say the combination of record-breaking temps and a really long drought
- 8:57has created the perfect conditions for wildfires to spread quickly and become harder to control.
- 9:03Euro summer doesn't really sound so nice anymore, does it?
- 9:08But tourism departments are watching this very closely because,
- 9:12yeah, you're all summer. Everyone's depending very heavily on these people to come in.
- 9:18Scientists have warned for years that hotter temps and changing weather patterns
- 9:21are making extreme wildfire events more common and more intense.
- 9:26So firefighters right now are fighting to protect homes, communities,
- 9:30and some of the world's most beautiful landscapes.
- 9:33This is the reminder that climate change isn't just a future problem.
- 9:37For many people it's happening right this second cooking tip of the day the
- 9:42longer you wait for it to be done the longer it's going to take,
- 9:46feedback comments questions and ace jewish by looking for a date email me at
