- 0:02Speaker 1: Life audio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Today, I talk about that John avoids flying bread and
- 0:08Speaker 2: questions whether the apostle Paul was easy to get along
- 0:10Speaker 2: with me, and while I pondered my comedy origin story
- 0:14Speaker 2: and tell you the tale of the unfamous third man
- 0:16Speaker 2: to walk on the moon, tell us a conversation about coincidence, providence,
- 0:21Speaker 2: and all the things we thought we wanted but are
- 0:23Speaker 2: glad we didn't get. Today's episode is not sponsored by
- 0:26Speaker 2: movie theaters. Way more expensive than watching at home, but
- 0:29Speaker 2: you also get to sit next to loud strangers. But
- 0:31Speaker 2: first award from our actual sponsor.
- 0:41Speaker 1: What's up out there? I'm John with Johnny to talk
- 0:43Speaker 1: about that. We're back.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Sorry about missing last week. I was your fault. It
- 0:49Speaker 2: was on both of us. Well, I mean I was gonna,
- 0:52Speaker 2: but you were like, you know, you went to pretty
- 0:55Speaker 2: haggard though of you want to take the time Gulf Shores.
- 0:59Speaker 3: It felt to me like exactly what you're doing now,
- 1:01Speaker 3: and that is you didn't want to do it because
- 1:04Speaker 3: you were busy, but you're gonna let me take the
- 1:06Speaker 3: fall for it.
- 1:07Speaker 1: And guys, I think Johnny and I we came to
- 1:10Speaker 1: the show to tell they let you know that there
- 1:12Speaker 1: is a great rift between.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Us, A mighty chasm, a great chasm.
- 1:17Speaker 3: You know, I told some another day. You know what
- 1:21Speaker 3: bugs me the most about the New Testament?
- 1:23Speaker 2: Okay, let's get into it. What really really gets me?
- 1:26Speaker 2: And to this day it's a small font because you're
- 1:30Speaker 2: so old.
- 1:31Speaker 1: These red letters randomly.
- 1:33Speaker 2: No, it bugs me that Paul couldn't get along with
- 1:37Speaker 2: the Son of Encouragement like that, that their disagreement was.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So what does it say sharp that they no longer
- 1:45Speaker 2: I mean, the Son of Encouragement. That's how I feel like.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Like again in this relationship, I feel like I would
- 1:51Speaker 3: be the Barnabash and you would be the Paul. I mean,
- 1:55Speaker 3: you have the famous one. No one ever knows who
- 1:57Speaker 3: I am. You know all those things, And I wonder
- 2:00Speaker 3: when the Paul Barnos moment's coming.
- 2:02Speaker 1: When you're gonna be like, I just I can't do
- 2:03Speaker 1: it anymore and you're done.
- 2:05Speaker 2: John's got a new chunk in his hour. Just was
- 2:08Speaker 2: out with John Christ and he's got a new chunk,
- 2:10Speaker 2: talking about like we need to start spicing up these
- 2:12Speaker 2: Bible stories with different titles. And he was like, because
- 2:16Speaker 2: I read him now with fresh eyes, and he was
- 2:17Speaker 2: talking about Joseph and the brothers, and he was like,
- 2:20Speaker 2: the brothers all pulled in. Joseph's like, this is my
- 2:23Speaker 2: most favorite son, and all the brothers are like really,
- 2:25Speaker 2: he was like, and the brothers hatred grew towards Joseph.
- 2:28Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, I'm starting to side with the brothers.
- 2:30Speaker 2: He's like yeah. He goes to get the fancy codes
- 2:33Speaker 2: like how many sons you got twelve? How many coats won?
- 2:36Speaker 2: Like that is this whole thing. So it's just a
- 2:39Speaker 2: funny like yeah, but yeah, the son of encouragement man,
- 2:42Speaker 2: Come on, how could you not? Paul?
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm telling you, Let's get.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Paul in here.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Come on, Paul, come on, we got Paul and Barnabus
- 2:48Speaker 3: right here behind the door.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I call him sauld or whatever.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Oh he hates.
- 2:53Speaker 2: He hates when you call him out.
- 2:56Speaker 1: So, yeah, you were out on the road.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I was. I did the show with Nate in my hometown,
- 3:02Speaker 2: which is huge.
- 3:02Speaker 3: You got to do Thompson Bowling Arena, guys, guys, Johnny
- 3:05Speaker 3: did Thomas and Bowling is one.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Of the more lamely named arenas, although it's called Thoms
- 3:09Speaker 2: Bowling Arena at Food City Center Now, which is way
- 3:11Speaker 2: too long because they had the corporate buyout like every
- 3:13Speaker 2: arena does. But even when it was just Thompson Bowling Arena,
- 3:17Speaker 2: it sounds like a bowling alley because it's the l
- 3:20Speaker 2: I G. But when you go I did Thomson Bowling Arena, they.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Go, oh you bowl? Are you a professional bowler?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no such thing as a bowling arena.
- 3:30Speaker 1: That's right.
- 3:31Speaker 2: That doesn't make any sense. If it's an arena, you're
- 3:33Speaker 2: probably not bowling. There's a bowling alley. Yeah, if it
- 3:36Speaker 2: was Thompson Bowling Alley, I would understand Thomson Bowling. I
- 3:38Speaker 2: think I could definitely headline that. I think we just
- 3:40Speaker 2: created our new business. But as it stands, I was opening.
- 3:43Speaker 2: But yeah, Nate did our childhood one of our childhood haunts,
- 3:47Speaker 2: and we've meant to many mini games there. You probably
- 3:49Speaker 2: more than me. You were an alum. Yeah, but I
- 3:52Speaker 2: grew up in Knoxville, So this was like a dream
- 3:54Speaker 2: and it was canceled because of the ice storm in January.
- 3:57Speaker 2: And then I was like bummed out because I was like, well,
- 4:00Speaker 2: I guess I just won't get to do it. And
- 4:01Speaker 2: then he was like, I'll put you on the makeup
- 4:03Speaker 2: date I go what so just yeah, that's how cool
- 4:06Speaker 2: Nate is. He knew what it meant to me, and
- 4:08Speaker 2: then he let me go last. He let me go
- 4:10Speaker 2: right before not last, but right before him. Last of
- 4:12Speaker 2: the openers have be wirrid. If you let me go,
- 4:13Speaker 2: you know what, Let's bring up Johnny. Now that's been
- 4:16Speaker 2: the And if you liked me, you may like this guy,
- 4:20Speaker 2: but probably not. Oh yeah, yeah, but he brought me up.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And then, uh, it was really really fun. I was
- 4:26Speaker 2: nervous more than I thought I would be. Uh. I've
- 4:28Speaker 2: done a bunch of arenas now is Nate, but this one,
- 4:30Speaker 2: you know, you just feel a different And plus I
- 4:32Speaker 2: had a lot of family and friends there. Yeah, although
- 4:34Speaker 2: someone was conspicuously absent.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah, right before we started recording, Johnny told this whole
- 4:39Speaker 3: story about somebody having this big moment in life and
- 4:42Speaker 3: all their marriage was that their parents weren't there.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And it was like, that's how I felt about you.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I looked at there's an empty seat. I just
- 4:48Speaker 2: focused on that empty sea.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it was It's not that I was busy, It's
- 4:52Speaker 3: just that I don't support you, and I think the
- 4:56Speaker 3: quicker that you.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Excited, I think volleyball's become an idol. I don't want
- 4:59Speaker 2: to be weird about it.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Let me something, but it is an expensive idol.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I am assuming idols in the Old Testament made of
- 5:07Speaker 3: gold and stuff are pretty expensive.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah, if it tracks, it's.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Like you're holding like it looks like your tom Cruise.
- 5:13Speaker 2: You're on castaway and you fashioned this person out of
- 5:16Speaker 2: a volleyball, but instead you're holding it. Going retirement, you're
- 5:20Speaker 2: holding it. It's basically your retirement that you've spent on volleyball. Yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 2: that's okay. It's you're not gonna you're not gonna need
- 5:27Speaker 2: you retire. No, I think you're one of those like
- 5:29Speaker 2: one heart attack and you're out.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I think I think you're Yeah, the deal is the
- 5:32Speaker 3: suggess from volleyball will take me out so much the retirement.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Clean break, maybe maybe even Laura get a Harley. Hey,
- 5:39Speaker 2: go out, glorious. That's right right off a mountain. No,
- 5:44Speaker 2: I yes, we were.
- 5:46Speaker 3: It was a tournament in Folly, Alabama, which is just
- 5:48Speaker 3: north of Golf Shopers.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's close enough that you're based on in Golf Shores, right,
- 5:52Speaker 2: What did you do that? Did you go do the
- 5:54Speaker 2: Lambert Lamberts throwed roles. Did you ever taken over there?
- 5:57Speaker 1: But the place we play is on the same street.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Okay, but you've never been you when I say it
- 6:03Speaker 2: needs to experience being having a role.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Just understand we try to go to one.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Understand that your schedule is so busy. She's volleyball from
- 6:10Speaker 2: noon to night.
- 6:12Speaker 3: If we could go get some sunshine because you're near
- 6:14Speaker 3: the beach, I'd rather do that than hey, throw a
- 6:16Speaker 3: roll in my head.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I can do that at home and do.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Laura throws rolls in the house.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I mean the throwed roll thing.
- 6:23Speaker 2: First of all, it's thrown.
- 6:25Speaker 1: No, no that they call it throwed.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I know, but I'm just saying, like it's.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It's I'm saying how they say you don't get hate.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I know they call a throwed roll, but I want
- 6:31Speaker 2: to make sure that the people are listening at home
- 6:33Speaker 2: now that we know it, we know it's thrown.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Why do they call the throat?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Don't know.
- 6:40Speaker 1: That had thrown? And they were like, we have to change.
- 6:43Speaker 2: It almost sounds like a roll that belongs on a throne,
- 6:46Speaker 2: like it's but it's spelled on the phone.
- 6:50Speaker 1: My daughter would know. She was really good at those.
- 6:54Speaker 2: You should know, John, you're an English major. You're goof
- 6:57Speaker 2: not an English major. Never was your history may english miner.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Never did anything in English, barely speak it. Yeah, English
- 7:05Speaker 1: was always homophone. There's no way to know. I don't
- 7:09Speaker 1: want to know. I hope you're screaming. Scream at your phone.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Right sounds alike.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I don't know, you would think because it's a phone.
- 7:16Speaker 2: But anyway, thrown sounds like these rolls belong on.
- 7:19Speaker 1: A thro rolls And if you don't catch it, do
- 7:22Speaker 1: you still eat it?
- 7:24Speaker 2: That depends. They waste a lot of roles, I'll be
- 7:26Speaker 2: honest with you, because a lot of people can't catch it.
- 7:27Speaker 2: And of course Curry had to duck because it's like
- 7:29Speaker 2: throwing a bomb and her she's gluten tall. Yeah, it's like, yeah,
- 7:32Speaker 2: it's a terrorist attack.
- 7:34Speaker 1: It's a a death dough.
- 7:38Speaker 2: That's what you came up with. We'll cut We'll cut.
- 7:42Speaker 1: That a second. A death dough.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Get out of here.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Where is the the lead button on this?
- 7:48Speaker 1: No, we did not do that.
- 7:51Speaker 2: But she went to the beach.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Some got it. So in the beach a little bit.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And here's the thing.
- 7:55Speaker 3: My wife, who's listening, my lovely wife, like you know,
- 7:59Speaker 3: the the weather report was bad going in.
- 8:02Speaker 2: No, you told me, Wow, we spend all this money
- 8:04Speaker 2: and we're going in a few days early and it's
- 8:05Speaker 2: going to be real bad. And I was like, you're
- 8:06Speaker 2: already bumming me up.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But that's not what I told her. You didn't tell
- 8:10Speaker 1: your wife this is no, or Sadie no, because because.
- 8:13Speaker 2: You have to be somebody's got to be the positive one.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Well, and that's crazy.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You can't have a whole family of negatives.
- 8:18Speaker 3: If you find me as the positive one, we've gone
- 8:20Speaker 3: it's over. Yeah, everyone's gone pretty dark. When I know on,
- 8:23Speaker 3: I'm pulling you up.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But if you want to.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Nothing in this world, I think disappoints my wife more.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Then we finally get to go to the beach and
- 8:33Speaker 3: it's raining or whatever. But the thing is at the beach,
- 8:36Speaker 3: it rarely rains the whole time unless it's a hurricane.
- 8:39Speaker 3: But the weather report was dismal across the whole southeastern
- 8:44Speaker 3: United States. We had that huge like ten days of rain,
- 8:47Speaker 3: you know. And she was like she was looking every
- 8:49Speaker 3: day a week out, it's like hey. And then and
- 8:51Speaker 3: I started noticing it would say sunshine.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, like look, it's gonna be fine, and and so
- 8:57Speaker 2: I would just like to say, with humid and gentleness
- 9:02Speaker 2: right that I was one hundred.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Percent right and she was wrong. We had a good
- 9:06Speaker 1: son every day.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but it it could have gone she could have
- 9:10Speaker 2: been right, but it just worked out. You got luck
- 9:12Speaker 2: of the draw.
- 9:13Speaker 3: But out of the last ten beats trips that we've
- 9:15Speaker 3: worried about this, yeah, I've been right probably nine out
- 9:19Speaker 3: of the ten times.
- 9:19Speaker 2: You're telling her not to worry and be more free flowing,
- 9:22Speaker 2: like you like, real casual, super breezy.
- 9:25Speaker 3: This is what I told Laura all the time, and
- 9:26Speaker 3: you guys have heard me say this before. I find
- 9:29Speaker 3: it's almost cute to me when other people try to
- 9:31Speaker 3: bring their worries because I'm like, dude, you're not even
- 9:33Speaker 3: you're not even worrying on the right level yet.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not a worry, that's just a concern.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I can if you want to get dark, and I
- 9:40Speaker 3: can make people feel worse really quickly, like, hey, let
- 9:43Speaker 3: me teach you how to worry.
- 9:44Speaker 2: The thing about like when you like, I don't mind
- 9:47Speaker 2: spending money. I hate the idea of money being spent
- 9:50Speaker 2: on something that or like I got taken advantage of,
- 9:52Speaker 2: or I feel like this is too much or it's
- 9:54Speaker 2: a wasteful thing, Like like, I'll spend an extra hundred
- 9:58Speaker 2: dollars to stay in a really nice hotel if my
- 10:00Speaker 2: with me. But I hate paying like thirty three dollars
- 10:03Speaker 2: a day for parking at the airport because it feels
- 10:05Speaker 2: like a hotel room for my car. Yeah, it feels
- 10:08Speaker 2: like a waste I'll do. I'll be like, could we
- 10:10Speaker 2: get a ride? Is it quicker? Is it better to
- 10:12Speaker 2: take an uber there and an uber back? Which is
- 10:14Speaker 2: you know you're doing the math in your head. If
- 10:15Speaker 2: we're gone this many days, it's better just to do
- 10:17Speaker 2: uber back and forth. I hate it. I think about
- 10:20Speaker 2: it all the time, and I don't know why because
- 10:22Speaker 2: it ends up being a couple hundred bucks or whatever
- 10:24Speaker 2: if I'm gone five days. But it's that bugs me
- 10:27Speaker 2: the But if it's a nice restaurant, let's go spend
- 10:29Speaker 2: the money. It's a good experience. So I think once
- 10:30Speaker 2: you have that beef strip, it idealizes in your mind
- 10:33Speaker 2: and you're like, now we've wasted this because we're in
- 10:35Speaker 2: a hotel room as we'll be home.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Exactly, That's exactly, And she's right, I would be disappointed
- 10:39Speaker 3: as well as we'll go to Lamberts. Might just go
- 10:42Speaker 3: get another throwed roll. I mean, here's the thing I
- 10:44Speaker 3: say I was totally joking about. I'm not joking in
- 10:47Speaker 3: fact that I was right. Yeah, but I'm not really
- 10:49Speaker 3: gonna lord it over her again.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Well that's kind of what you already did.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Well, this is not this is a public forum. Listen,
- 10:55Speaker 3: millions of listeners, close enough, listen. The deal is, she's
- 10:59Speaker 3: right about everything else, so maybe I get one.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I'm usually right about the
- 11:03Speaker 1: weather at the beach that turns out.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Okay, they're such a bud kusser, but it's okay. We
- 11:08Speaker 2: love you, John, but it's okay.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Hey no, hey, hey, hey hey twenty six years bro.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yeah, some of us are doing it a different way.
- 11:19Speaker 3: We're trying to not like the.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Disaster of a marriage. You're wait, please pray for us.
- 11:26Speaker 2: We're going on the road together. She didn't get to
- 11:29Speaker 2: go with it. She doesn't go with me on the
- 11:30Speaker 2: John Chris run. Okay, that's kind of a boys club.
- 11:33Speaker 2: And uh, what about the Nate Run. The Nate Run.
- 11:36Speaker 2: She was there at the show, but.
- 11:37Speaker 1: She didn't go on the whole run. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 1: because y'all did knox one on what.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Other No, it was just Knoxville. Got that yet, but yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 2: she doesn't go, but so like she's excited about these
- 11:45Speaker 2: we're doing. Uh, by the way, get tickets now. Clevebland,
- 11:48Speaker 2: Texas June third, June fourth is hold On Van Ward, Ohio.
- 11:53Speaker 2: June fifth is Greensburg, Pennsylvania. June sixth, Beckley, West Virginia,
- 11:59Speaker 2: live and laughing. It was the last of the spring date.
- 12:01Speaker 2: So I'll have Christian McCartney, I'll have Ed Wiley with
- 12:03Speaker 2: me on these. These have been so fun. Yeah, and
- 12:05Speaker 2: these are makeup dates from the big scooter debacle.
- 12:09Speaker 3: By the way, I've only seen pictures of who did
- 12:14Speaker 3: the drawings.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Adam Bush, our friend Adam Bush did.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Adams so talented he had.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Those rendered, you know, but he knows the prompts to
- 12:21Speaker 2: make them, so he's good at that stuff. But yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 2: so I'm doing that material in the shows where I
- 12:26Speaker 2: kind of walk through the explanation of the crash and
- 12:29Speaker 2: I've got a little material around it now.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Yeah I want to hear that.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I'm still polishing it, okay, But I felt
- 12:34Speaker 2: like these crowds deserved nobody. Even if it does turned
- 12:38Speaker 2: into material that I use everywhere. These crowds deserve the
- 12:41Speaker 2: story because it costs them there it incovenience them.
- 12:44Speaker 1: How did they respond?
- 12:45Speaker 2: They loved it?
- 12:45Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:46Speaker 2: The funniest part is when I get to the one
- 12:48Speaker 2: where it's like me totally eating it, the final one
- 12:51Speaker 2: where it's pavement coming up and like my face hitting it.
- 12:54Speaker 2: They all gasped, like it's a real photo. It's a
- 12:57Speaker 2: cartoons like Calvin and Hobbes. It might as well be, though,
- 13:00Speaker 2: but and they know it really did happen. But it's like,
- 13:03Speaker 2: you know, once I saw that they gasped at the cartoon,
- 13:07Speaker 2: I was like, we're never showing the real photos.
- 13:09Speaker 1: You'll never get them back.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just tearing out photo. Yeah it's weird. Uh
- 13:15Speaker 2: But anyway, John, you know it's time for I think
- 13:17Speaker 2: it's time that we hear from a few of our
- 13:19Speaker 2: fine sponsors.
- 13:30Speaker 3: I'm like, I say, I'm completely kidding about your marriage.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I don't do the people are mean to each other
- 13:36Speaker 3: and stuff, and I always feel bad.
- 13:38Speaker 1: So I think you have one of the best marriages everybody.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I know. You guys are happy and well suited.
- 13:42Speaker 2: That's what makes this so hard.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So I have announcement.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I've got a statement I would like to read.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I would I would hurt you? Would
- 13:51Speaker 1: you if you hurt Curry? I think, oh well, I
- 13:53Speaker 1: really yeah, you'd be an idiot.
- 13:55Speaker 3: So I know she puts up with all that stuff
- 13:57Speaker 3: out of you.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You worded that.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Hey, it's about that time. Okay, it's my segment. We
- 14:05Speaker 1: call it.
- 14:06Speaker 3: They talked about that, You're gonna like this one today
- 14:21Speaker 3: because I don't have.
- 14:22Speaker 1: To worry about who said it or whether I got the.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Name right from you five staples.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It's actually unknown. Oh it's anonymous.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Guys.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It's gonna end up being a monster once we figure
- 14:32Speaker 2: it out. You didn't try to track it down. I
- 14:35Speaker 2: didn't taste it into the thing and just tracked down.
- 14:39Speaker 1: It came at me.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Ain't off. Yeah, not great.
- 14:44Speaker 3: I'm hoping anyway. I don't doubt it's gonna be one
- 14:46Speaker 3: of those guys. But anyway, Unknown said this coincidence is
- 14:51Speaker 3: God's way of remaining anonymous.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I've heard that before, and I think it's been a
- 14:55Speaker 2: tribute to do a bunch of different people. That's a
- 14:58Speaker 2: good one.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I think it maybe had been attributed.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I want to say it was like Benjamin Franklin.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Maybe perhaps, And then I looked it up and found
- 15:05Speaker 3: that they were like, no one's ever going to find out.
- 15:07Speaker 2: It's a way from any anonymous. Yeah, yeah, I think,
- 15:10Speaker 2: you know, I think it's true. Don't think any true coincidences.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Man, I really can't, because.
- 15:18Speaker 2: There are people who, like, I think we're in a
- 15:19Speaker 2: culture now that like conspiracy theories and it's so fun
- 15:22Speaker 2: to get in to go down the rabbit hole on
- 15:24Speaker 2: TikTok of like follow the money. Yeah, like is this
- 15:28Speaker 2: really like so and so died at thirty three and
- 15:30Speaker 2: this guy died at thirty three coincidence? And you go, yeah,
- 15:33Speaker 2: it is a coincidence, right, they didn't know each other.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I think that all things. I think there's a difference
- 15:37Speaker 1: between God for knowing things and God for ordaining things. Okay,
- 15:46Speaker 1: And I don't.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Know where he decides what to do which one, Like,
- 15:51Speaker 3: you know, again, the Deists believe that God spun things
- 15:53Speaker 3: into motion and then kept his.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Hands off, Like though he made the intricate watch and
- 15:57Speaker 2: now he just died again, he fixes the watch, but
- 16:00Speaker 2: he doesn't really interfere with watch.
- 16:01Speaker 3: And I'm not at all deast in that respect or
- 16:05Speaker 3: in any respect, but I do believe that God does
- 16:10Speaker 3: allow things to happen. I also know, again, I think
- 16:13Speaker 3: about this all the time, how specific the scriptures are
- 16:18Speaker 3: about God's knowledge and care for things. That there's not
- 16:25Speaker 3: a bird that falls that goes, you know, in the
- 16:28Speaker 3: field that God doesn't notice, or you know that God
- 16:30Speaker 3: knows the number of hairs in your head or whatever.
- 16:32Speaker 3: He gets so super specific there. So I take a
- 16:35Speaker 3: lot of comfort in that. But whether or not God
- 16:38Speaker 3: is affecting the hairs on my head? Could he did
- 16:42Speaker 3: he know he let the hairs fall? But did he
- 16:46Speaker 3: see the hairs when they fell on the floor, Johnny,
- 16:48Speaker 3: I think she did. So, you know, I think, like
- 16:52Speaker 3: I find that comfort of knowing that He's present and
- 16:56Speaker 3: maybe there is some things are some things that He
- 16:59Speaker 3: allows to just kind of come at me. But I
- 17:01Speaker 3: think that idea I will I tell the church this
- 17:04Speaker 3: all the time.
- 17:05Speaker 1: You don't know.
- 17:07Speaker 3: And this is this is why I think hardship shapes
- 17:10Speaker 3: us in a different way than anything else can, because
- 17:13Speaker 3: you can't be present and grateful for things that God
- 17:18Speaker 3: did that you don't know about because they never happened. Yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 3: And so I do know. I can tell you many times,
- 17:25Speaker 3: and the road is a great example. Many times I
- 17:27Speaker 3: was inches away from death and I was like, oh,
- 17:30Speaker 3: I had a little a little shot of adrenaline and
- 17:32Speaker 3: went on.
- 17:32Speaker 1: My way and forgot about it by that night. I
- 17:34Speaker 1: mean countless time.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Well, everybody's had that moment where you realized you don't
- 17:37Speaker 2: remember the last twenty minutes of driving, right, but.
- 17:40Speaker 1: You looked down and man, if someone would have come
- 17:42Speaker 1: in front of.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Your car, you'd have kill them, you know, and you
- 17:46Speaker 3: just go, how many times did I pray before we
- 17:50Speaker 3: left that guy would take care of us or whatever?
- 17:52Speaker 3: And there's not a time I don't pull in from
- 17:53Speaker 3: a long volleyball trop because we're on the road constantly
- 17:56Speaker 3: that I don't tell Laura. I try to tell Laura like, hey,
- 17:59Speaker 3: it's a big deal every time that we just drove
- 18:01Speaker 3: a thousand miles and pull back into art yeah driveway.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I mean, like, so that is I believe you could go, well,
- 18:08Speaker 3: that's just coincidence. You're just a good driver. And I'm like, well,
- 18:11Speaker 3: you know, like I don't think so. I think I
- 18:13Speaker 3: think God is protecting us. And here's got to be
- 18:15Speaker 3: good if we died in the car wreck, Like I
- 18:18Speaker 3: get it. People, that happens to people. So there's a
- 18:20Speaker 3: mystery of what allow he allows and doesn't.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Alige we're talking about on the bus because me and
- 18:24Speaker 2: John and Andrew Stanley, who is a great comic out
- 18:27Speaker 2: of Atlanta, and we were talking about like the weird
- 18:31Speaker 2: happenstance of us starting our career and like how he
- 18:34Speaker 2: Andrew says, I think a lot about how close I
- 18:36Speaker 2: was to not doing it and it changed his whole life.
- 18:40Speaker 2: But how close you you had to almost be talked
- 18:42Speaker 2: into it. It's that first open mic or well, for me,
- 18:44Speaker 2: it was like a church event, and I was kind
- 18:47Speaker 2: of put in this position, go do eight minutes in
- 18:49Speaker 2: front of these college kids that are coming in from
- 18:51Speaker 2: out of state. You're the college pastor here, you're hosting this,
- 18:54Speaker 2: Go do it. And I was nervous, but I thought,
- 18:56Speaker 2: me and John write these dumb, silly songs for the
- 18:58Speaker 2: youth group. We'll just do a song, and you were sick.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And that's why I decided to write jokes. I'll roast
- 19:05Speaker 2: these colleges. And I had Jeffrey make slides of like
- 19:08Speaker 2: different mascots and stuff, and so two things. One if
- 19:14Speaker 2: you hadn't been sick, I never would have tried it,
- 19:16Speaker 2: And two if it hadn't gone well, I never would
- 19:18Speaker 2: have tried it again. So like a lot had to
- 19:20Speaker 2: go right. But it's not a cool that's that's not
- 19:23Speaker 2: cool to me. That's not a coincidence. That was a
- 19:25Speaker 2: God thing. And I'd look at it as like you know,
- 19:28Speaker 2: the day you're born and the day you find out why,
- 19:30Speaker 2: there really is those moments for me as a creator.
- 19:33Speaker 2: But it's like, I, yeah, you have to make a
- 19:37Speaker 2: million decisions to keep going, and then there's rough times
- 19:40Speaker 2: and there's a lot of no's. But like in the beginning,
- 19:42Speaker 2: I think God knew, like he's going to have to
- 19:44Speaker 2: win at this or he won't have the guts to
- 19:47Speaker 2: keep trying, Like I bombed after that a lot of times,
- 19:51Speaker 2: But he knew enough to be like, this needs to
- 19:53Speaker 2: be a really tailor made situation where he'll do good
- 19:56Speaker 2: and he'll get encouragement and he'll get bookings from it.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I got bookings from it. Colleges were like, you got
- 20:01Speaker 2: to come do that at my school. I was like, well,
- 20:02Speaker 2: it doesn't fit at your school, but I'll write some stuff,
- 20:04Speaker 2: and then I really started writing things. But yeah, it's
- 20:07Speaker 2: like a lot of that had to It's such a
- 20:10Speaker 2: sliding door of like what if I hadn't done this,
- 20:12Speaker 2: or what if I had just made it? What if
- 20:13Speaker 2: I had chickened out? Yeah, well, if John can't do it,
- 20:15Speaker 2: I just won't do it. I'll just get up and
- 20:17Speaker 2: do an announcement. Yeah, hey, everybody, shake each other's hands,
- 20:20Speaker 2: Welcome to the church.
- 20:21Speaker 3: When you think about how many college groups and youth
- 20:24Speaker 3: group stuff and times you've spoken because.
- 20:25Speaker 1: In the very beginning, yeah you would. You didn't want
- 20:28Speaker 1: to talk on stage when you're in the band.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Right, I was, Yeah, they're very shy. Yeah, you did
- 20:32Speaker 2: all the talking between songs.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Right, and then how what probably at that point ten
- 20:36Speaker 3: years later, Yeah, you know you're now to the point,
- 20:39Speaker 3: oh John can't do this, and we've been on missions
- 20:42Speaker 3: trips and written all kinds of stuff and done all
- 20:43Speaker 3: these other things for the groups.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It was just more natural. So there's a prep for it, all.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Right, at allway was prepp even like taking a job
- 20:50Speaker 2: as like a young old's pastor and having to prepare
- 20:53Speaker 2: something to say in front of people, you just get
- 20:55Speaker 2: more and more comfortable you just some of those butterflies
- 20:57Speaker 2: go away to quote Moley Syral nod in my head
- 21:02Speaker 2: like yeah no, but yeah. Like John's story was interesting.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I didn't know his but he said he I'll butcher it.
- 21:10Speaker 2: But he said that his church was doing some sermon
- 21:13Speaker 2: series and it was like top you know, I can't
- 21:18Speaker 2: remember if it was like because he did this one,
- 21:19Speaker 2: it was like things were not. It was like we're
- 21:22Speaker 2: they're starting a men's series and something, and he was
- 21:25Speaker 2: just like he showed up at this thing and they
- 21:28Speaker 2: were spitballing ideas and he was just like, well, you
- 21:31Speaker 2: should do this from this story. This would be funny
- 21:34Speaker 2: if you did this. And then the guys who didn't
- 21:36Speaker 2: want to be doing it, they were it was dumped
- 21:38Speaker 2: on them by some megachurch. They were like, why don't
- 21:41Speaker 2: you just do it? So then he just took over
- 21:43Speaker 2: and he goes, I wasn't even supposed to be at
- 21:45Speaker 2: the thing. I just walked into the meeting or something
- 21:46Speaker 2: and was like, well you should do this. You know,
- 21:49Speaker 2: he's still scared of his shadow, but he was like okay.
- 21:51Speaker 2: And then that this was in its spiral, and then
- 21:53Speaker 2: he started doing more and more videas for his church
- 21:55Speaker 2: and he started doing stand up. It's like, what if
- 21:57Speaker 2: you just decided not to go that day? Like you
- 22:00Speaker 2: that that door was never never been opened in his mind.
- 22:03Speaker 2: He was just been like, oh, stand up. It's a
- 22:04Speaker 2: fun thing that I watch. Yeah, you know, something has
- 22:07Speaker 2: to ignite that thing, like, oh I could do this.
- 22:11Speaker 1: It's interesting.
- 22:13Speaker 3: So there's a book I'll I've talked about before. It's
- 22:16Speaker 3: called Finding Old Glory that I'm writing. And it's my
- 22:19Speaker 3: my like kind of life's work of history because it's
- 22:24Speaker 3: a story.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I've been chasing since i was a little kid.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yeah, And I've written all these books mainly as a collaborator,
- 22:30Speaker 3: some own, some as a co author. And I'm in
- 22:33Speaker 3: this total historical it's it's it's called historical trade, right,
- 22:38Speaker 3: but it's it's way more academic than I would write
- 22:41Speaker 3: in the other fronts. Well, my wonderful agent, I mean,
- 22:46Speaker 3: who believes in me even though I'm just a you
- 22:47Speaker 3: know what I am?
- 22:48Speaker 1: I am what I am?
- 22:49Speaker 3: Johnny and do We pitched every publishing outlet that he had.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I even made a Christian version. We pitched everything.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Got a lot of good feedback, but just all knows, right,
- 23:03Speaker 3: and I finally was like, you know what, I want
- 23:05Speaker 3: to go to my alma mater and pitch. I've never
- 23:08Speaker 3: pitched the university press before. It's you know, I've studied
- 23:11Speaker 3: it a little bit to see how to do it.
- 23:12Speaker 3: It's it's a whole different animal. I pitched them and
- 23:15Speaker 3: I got to know from them. And this goes back
- 23:18Speaker 3: again to that that one thing. It's like, well, okay,
- 23:21Speaker 3: well that's every door closed. I guess I'm not doing this.
- 23:24Speaker 3: And then something happened that never ever happens in publishing.
- 23:29Speaker 3: The guy emailed me back.
- 23:31Speaker 2: And so the guy that told you no died. We
- 23:35Speaker 2: have decided to go against his wishes.
- 23:37Speaker 3: The guy emailed me back and and this is humbling
- 23:40Speaker 3: to hear him say this. He was just like, hey,
- 23:43Speaker 3: I like to hold off on my note for a
- 23:45Speaker 3: second because my boss really.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Likes this book idea.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I like that.
- 23:50Speaker 1: So he got he got like overridden.
- 23:54Speaker 3: And so now because I would have I'm so used
- 23:57Speaker 3: to trade and not university stuff, like this book is
- 24:00Speaker 3: still a long way from coming out. It's just a
- 24:01Speaker 3: longer process. But there's a lot of things happening. I
- 24:05Speaker 3: may share at some point that I'm so excited to
- 24:08Speaker 3: be with the University of Tennessee Press on this. It's
- 24:11Speaker 3: Mama Moter, it's cool and that, and plus that that
- 24:14Speaker 3: academic side is causing other things to happen in life.
- 24:17Speaker 3: But also that guy and I have become pretty good
- 24:19Speaker 3: friends because we have to talk occasionally, you know, about everything,
- 24:22Speaker 3: and you just go, man, do you just you never
- 24:24Speaker 3: know in all the negative, all the no's or you know,
- 24:28Speaker 3: I believe again, I wouldn't be grateful for it without
- 24:32Speaker 3: all the other things, and I wouldness not the first
- 24:34Speaker 3: thing I picked. It was the last thing I picked, yea,
- 24:37Speaker 3: And it ends up being the only thing I need.
- 24:39Speaker 1: You know, for that, sometimes the last thing you pick,
- 24:40Speaker 1: Johnny's the only thing you need.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Come on, that's our show. That is our show. It's
- 24:44Speaker 2: not our show.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I could have I do Johnny's stuff.
- 24:48Speaker 2: No, no, no, I'm sorry. Let's do some old jokes.
- 24:50Speaker 2: We call it joke about that John. I went to
- 24:57Speaker 2: see Project Hail Mary, you know the film that's out. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 2: and I highly recommend it unless you know about it
- 25:04Speaker 2: going in the better trust me. The guy in front
- 25:05Speaker 2: of me though at the theater, brought his dog to
- 25:07Speaker 2: see the movie with him. I think it was like
- 25:08Speaker 2: a service animal. Any with the dog really seemed to
- 25:11Speaker 2: be enjoying the movie. It was strange, so I said
- 25:13Speaker 2: to the guy after, I know this is going to
- 25:15Speaker 2: sound weird, but it seemed like your dog really enjoyed
- 25:18Speaker 2: the movie. He said, that is weird because he hated
- 25:20Speaker 2: the book.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I like that, okay, guys a dog.
- 25:30Speaker 2: John, a wealthy lawyer, which is a lot of those,
- 25:35Speaker 2: was riding in his limousine when he saw two women
- 25:37Speaker 2: along the roadside eating grass. Disturbed, he ordered his driver's
- 25:40Speaker 2: stop and got out to investigate. He asked one woman,
- 25:42Speaker 2: why are you eating grass? We don't have money for food,
- 25:45Speaker 2: the poor woman. The poor women replied, we have to
- 25:48Speaker 2: eat grass. Well, then you can come with me to
- 25:50Speaker 2: my house and i'll feed you. The lawyer said, but sir,
- 25:52Speaker 2: I have a husband and two children with me. They're
- 25:53Speaker 2: over there under that tree. Bring them along, the lawyer replied,
- 25:56Speaker 2: Turning to the other poor women, he stated, you come
- 25:58Speaker 2: with us also. Second woman, a pitiful voice, said, but sir,
- 26:01Speaker 2: I also have a husband and six children with me.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Bring them all, the lawyer answered. They all entered a car,
- 26:05Speaker 2: which was no easy task, even for a car as
- 26:07Speaker 2: large as the stretch limousine. Once underway, all the poor
- 26:11Speaker 2: people turned to the lawyer and said, sir, you're too kind.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Thanks for taking all this with you. The lawyer applied
- 26:14Speaker 2: glad to do it. You'll really love my place. The
- 26:17Speaker 2: grass is almost a foot high.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Oh they got dark.
- 26:22Speaker 2: It did get dark. These lawyers, in jokes or not,
- 26:25Speaker 2: they're not portrayed one of great. Yeah, I'm sure, yes,
- 26:30Speaker 2: you have to say that because you're legally on BLAD.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I don't want you sign an NDA of some sort
- 26:34Speaker 2: libel John. Finally, a guy's father dies. He goes to
- 26:39Speaker 2: the undertaker and tells me he wants the best of
- 26:40Speaker 2: everything for his dad. The funeral is absolutely beautiful. The
- 26:43Speaker 2: guy's extremely pleased. Next day he gets a bill for
- 26:46Speaker 2: sixteen eighty five dollars. He pays it. The next month
- 26:50Speaker 2: he gets another bill for eighty five dollars. Figures it's
- 26:52Speaker 2: just like a little supplementary bill, so he pays that.
- 26:53Speaker 2: To next month, another bill for eighty five dollars. Right,
- 26:55Speaker 2: so he calls up to the undertaker and says, I
- 26:57Speaker 2: keep getting these bills for eighty five dollars. I thought
- 26:59Speaker 2: I was paid paid up already. They'ner takers as well. Yeah,
- 27:02Speaker 2: you said you wanted the best for your father, saw rending.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Him a tucks.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I never heard that one before. That's good, John, Let's
- 27:10Speaker 2: do this week in history, we call it talk about them?
- 27:18Speaker 2: John Charles, Pete Conrad. I don't know how you get Pete.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Maybe his middle name was Peter, But how are you
- 27:23Speaker 2: have a nickname of Pete? Charles? Quote Pete Conrad? What
- 27:26Speaker 2: if he a whip by the middle name Junior was
- 27:29Speaker 2: born this week nineteen thirty, pasted in nineteen ninety nine,
- 27:33Speaker 2: but he was do you know who was? Do you
- 27:34Speaker 2: recognize that name at all? No, this is gonna blow
- 27:36Speaker 2: your mind. He was the third person to walk on
- 27:39Speaker 2: the moon. This just shows how like there's such a
- 27:41Speaker 2: drop off like Neil Arms song second buzz Aton buzz Aldrin,
- 27:45Speaker 2: Pete Conrad.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, what's wrong with us?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Like a bronze it's like a bronze medalist.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Like when you guys are listening, you're like top podcast,
- 27:55Speaker 3: next podcast.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And then who is talking about what?
- 27:58Speaker 2: We don't know? Maybe Hey, although they're listening, why are
- 28:00Speaker 2: you scolding people that are actually listening?
- 28:01Speaker 1: Sorry, thank you guys, thank you.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Appreciate you. John how would they find out more about
- 28:05Speaker 2: the podcast.
- 28:05Speaker 1: They go to talk about that podcast dot Com over four.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Hundred episodes to peruse, and maybe you're going to Foley, Alabama.
- 28:12Speaker 3: To be clear, this was my first affirmation ever, so
- 28:14Speaker 3: I was not familiar with how to deal with it.
- 28:16Speaker 2: So sorry anyway. John Pete Conrad was born and this
- 28:21Speaker 2: week nineteen thirty he was an American house third person to
- 28:23Speaker 2: walk on the Moon nineteen sixty nine. If you believe
- 28:25Speaker 2: that happened upon stepping I believe it upon stepping on
- 28:28Speaker 2: the Moon's surface, Conrad commented, which is why he makes
- 28:31Speaker 2: the list. It's so fun. Whoopee, No man. That may
- 28:34Speaker 2: have been a small one for Neil, but it's a
- 28:36Speaker 2: long one for me. His personal motto, if you can't
- 28:40Speaker 2: be good, be colorful.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I like it.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Pete was like, you know what I'm getting what I'm
- 28:44Speaker 2: getting the news and guess what, this is the first
- 28:46Speaker 2: time you've ever heard of him. So it did not work.
- 28:48Speaker 1: It turns out, whoopee, not the best.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Come up with something more.
- 28:52Speaker 3: You know that, you know those guys are sitting around
- 28:54Speaker 3: thinking about you know, all right, we get this one shot?
- 28:56Speaker 1: Ye, the whole world's good.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Wait did you say the first thing to the telegraph,
- 29:00Speaker 2: what half God wrought? Yeah, he knew somebody's writing this down.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Also what half God wrot? Well, it meant something. Then
- 29:09Speaker 2: more is more like.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I would have meant look at what God allowed
- 29:12Speaker 1: us to do.
- 29:13Speaker 2: I think yes.
- 29:13Speaker 1: But it sounds almost like God's going to kill us.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yeah it does. It's God rotting something.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Centers in the heavens of an angry God who doesn't
- 29:21Speaker 3: want us talking on this.
- 29:26Speaker 1: What if God throws a roll at you?
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yeah, half gonna look out.
- 29:31Speaker 1: I think that's from I'm just kidding.
- 29:32Speaker 2: You can book a book of judges.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Daily bread, bro, that's true.
- 29:35Speaker 2: He does some Some would say he's throwing rolls right now.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I throws a roll, catch it and eat it, but
- 29:39Speaker 1: you can't store it.
- 29:41Speaker 2: But he don't listen.
- 29:42Speaker 1: It'll rot overnight. It's right there.
- 29:44Speaker 2: And tell you what throw us this day? Or daily bread? Okay?
- 29:50Speaker 2: John born this week seventeen sixty one, Henry Shrapnel. Do
- 29:55Speaker 2: you want to guess what he's famous for the doctor
- 30:00Speaker 2: He was a British Army I was hoping it'd be that.
- 30:02Speaker 2: It's worse. He's a British Army officer for whom Shrapnel's
- 30:06Speaker 2: name to refer to fragmentation from artillery shells. In seventeen
- 30:09Speaker 2: eighty four, he began to experiment with hollow cannonballs filled
- 30:13Speaker 2: with lead shot that burst midair.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Couch.
- 30:16Speaker 2: In eighteen oh three, the British Army adopted the technique,
- 30:19Speaker 2: naming it after its inventor. For his contributions to warfare,
- 30:21Speaker 2: shrapnel was prone to lieutenant colonel awarded twelve hundred pounds
- 30:25Speaker 2: or one hundred and six thousand pounds in twenty twenty
- 30:27Speaker 2: five for a year for his life. So for he
- 30:29Speaker 2: got one hundred thousand dollars for the rest of his
- 30:32Speaker 2: life in today's money for putting basically making pipe bombs.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, something exploded and ree shrapnel.
- 30:41Speaker 2: It's interesting to me that, I know, warfare has a
- 30:43Speaker 2: thing and people will get awards for making the most
- 30:46Speaker 2: deadly killing machines, but it just feels gross. I was hoping,
- 30:50Speaker 2: like you would be like, this is the guy that
- 30:51Speaker 2: pulled the shrap and he was able to you know,
- 30:53Speaker 2: he saved people's lives, but they called it shrapnel because
- 30:56Speaker 2: it was doctor shrapnel.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Ro He had done both, you know, he made it,
- 30:58Speaker 1: and he felt batter.
- 30:59Speaker 2: After shrapne Doctor Trevivill like sounds like? Does it sounds
- 31:02Speaker 2: very Doctor is right this way.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I think we can write our own story about doctor Dravidel.
- 31:07Speaker 2: I think you're ractional, but John. This week nineteen ninety two,
- 31:12Speaker 2: the public voted three to one in favor of the
- 31:16Speaker 2: postage stamp featuring a young Elvis Presley as opposed to
- 31:19Speaker 2: the old Elvis. Is estimated that one hundred and twenty
- 31:21Speaker 2: four million of the stamps were held on too by collectors.
- 31:25Speaker 2: So it's one of those like young beets, like nobody
- 31:27Speaker 2: wants to see the old Elvis on the stamp. You're like,
- 31:29Speaker 2: we're gonna put a stamp out with Elvis, now vote
- 31:31Speaker 2: and they're like, oh yeah, give me the young sexy Elvis. Yeah. Yeah,
- 31:35Speaker 2: Well the jumpsuits were around for a long time, even
- 31:37Speaker 2: when he was young. They were shiny, but they got
- 31:40Speaker 2: they got larger, they got more spandexit. They needed some
- 31:46Speaker 2: gift to them.
- 31:46Speaker 1: They stopped washing them on hot Yeah, let's alter these. Yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 1: they stopped washing them.
- 31:52Speaker 2: You're gonna put that in a cold cycle there, sir,
- 31:55Speaker 2: hang it out to hang that out to dry. Yeah,
- 31:57Speaker 2: not unlike Elvis. Come on, rest in peace. King John
- 32:03Speaker 2: this week nineteen thirty three. The first drive in theater,
- 32:07Speaker 2: first of the modern drive in theaters, opening Camden, New Jersey,
- 32:10Speaker 2: this week nineteen thirty three. It held four hundred cars,
- 32:12Speaker 2: had a forty by fifty foot screen and advertise with
- 32:16Speaker 2: the slogan quote, the whole family is welcome, regardless of
- 32:19Speaker 2: how noisy the children are. I guess they're like, they're
- 32:21Speaker 2: in your car. They're in your world now.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Like that, Just go ahead and call it out. Yeah,
- 32:25Speaker 1: your kids, mug everybody. We don't even care.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Yeah, your car is now the theater, so deal with
- 32:30Speaker 2: them yourself. Yeah, in the back.
- 32:31Speaker 3: What if we do that children's mystery here like BBS,
- 32:34Speaker 3: bring your trouble making little chit ling's on out here.
- 32:38Speaker 1: We don't even care.
- 32:39Speaker 2: It's like regard, yeah, regardless of how yeah will Yeah,
- 32:42Speaker 2: you're right. It's like a it's like the huddled masses
- 32:44Speaker 2: yearning to breathe free on this.
- 32:46Speaker 1: See that sounds way more beautiful than poet.
- 32:48Speaker 2: No, because that says bring your tired you're poor. Yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 2: but it was your noisy children. I don't know anyway.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Regardless how noisy the children are, was the slogan. The
- 32:59Speaker 2: cost was twenty five cents per car plus twenty five
- 33:02Speaker 2: cents per person. It was opened by Richard holling Shed Hollingshead,
- 33:08Speaker 2: who had pattent to the concept, which featured ramped parking
- 33:12Speaker 2: for better viewing. His patent was ruled invalid in nineteen fifty.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Earlier attempts to drive ins featured silent movies and impromptu
- 33:21Speaker 2: car parking. According to some, Hauling said came up with
- 33:24Speaker 2: the idea because his mother was too large to sit
- 33:26Speaker 2: comfortably in a regular theater. So he's like, I got you, mama, Yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 2: just drive the car up.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:34Speaker 2: She's like, I'm too big for the car too.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Got a who's eating Gilbert Grape situation going on?
- 33:38Speaker 2: Yes, that's a that's a deep what's eating Gilbert Grape?
- 33:42Speaker 2: Who's eating?
- 33:43Speaker 1: That's the that's it's different movie.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a whole other.
- 33:47Speaker 1: It's been a minute since I saw that movie.
- 33:49Speaker 2: And lost on half our audience, but it's worth saying.
- 33:52Speaker 2: It's a great movie. Actually, very well done. Leonardo di Caprio, Yeah,
- 33:55Speaker 2: I played a special needs kid in that one, and like,
- 33:58Speaker 2: was I think he I think he got it. I
- 33:59Speaker 2: think he on a golden globe. But it was Oscar nominated.
- 34:02Speaker 2: It's a pretty brilliant portrayal Johnny Depp. It's a great
- 34:04Speaker 2: film anyway. Yeah, his mom was big, and she was like,
- 34:07Speaker 2: you know, I got you mom.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:08Speaker 2: You know who else loved his mama, Elvis? Wow, full circle,
- 34:11Speaker 2: full circle, Yeah, and I got I don't know, I
- 34:14Speaker 2: don't know. I don't love my mama, John Yeah. And
- 34:16Speaker 2: I know you love your mom. Well, I love your
- 34:18Speaker 2: mom too. She's been like a second mom to me
- 34:20Speaker 2: a little bit. Oh yeah, in that she will. She
- 34:24Speaker 2: gives me a hard time and tells me I'm not
- 34:26Speaker 2: eating enough and nags me. No. We love Mama de
- 34:29Speaker 2: She's the best.
- 34:30Speaker 1: She is the best.
- 34:31Speaker 2: I ate many of baked potato at your house. Yes,
- 34:34Speaker 2: that was a meal at your house. It's a potato night.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Yeah, potato bar people do it all the time.
- 34:38Speaker 2: But chili put the stuff in there.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Chili cheese.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I don't remember barbecue off the top of it, you know,
- 34:44Speaker 2: only chili potatoes. Yeah, well chili has got protein in it. Yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 2: You know when you're at somebody's house and you say
- 34:50Speaker 2: to them like, is there anything I can do? And
- 34:53Speaker 2: then they were was like no, no, no, you just
- 34:55Speaker 2: enjoys it. Your mom would be like, could you put
- 34:56Speaker 2: some of these towels in? She asked. She told me
- 34:59Speaker 2: that one time them she goes, would you fold some
- 35:01Speaker 2: of these towns? Did you? I was like, I was
- 35:02Speaker 2: really hoping you'd say no, no, no, But you didn't
- 35:04Speaker 2: do it, did you? I did, but I don't think
- 35:06Speaker 2: I did it right. You know, women fold towers and thirds.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I'm a I'm a boom boom boom, half half half half,
- 35:12Speaker 2: then you're done what you folded and half hold it
- 35:15Speaker 2: in half again. Women go like somehow they do a
- 35:17Speaker 2: third third, you know what I'm saying, Like, it's a
- 35:19Speaker 2: it's like a it's like a burrito. You lay it
- 35:21Speaker 2: over itself. My wife taught me to fold like that whenever.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Women really like a third folded towel, and I don't.
- 35:26Speaker 1: That's what I do. It's a tricky.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Actually, I know. I roll. I roll towels, roll them
- 35:30Speaker 2: up sometimes. I'm so used to it, but they don't
- 35:32Speaker 2: fit on the shelf. Do you roll your clothes up
- 35:34Speaker 2: in your because I do? Yeah. When I travel, you're
- 35:37Speaker 2: supposed to do that because it's less wrinkles. Correct.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I thought it was just taking up less space.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Space, But I mean, if you don't have the fold creases,
- 35:42Speaker 2: it's less wrinkles too. I think the wrinkles is the
- 35:44Speaker 2: main reason. Interesting, are you Are you a fault? Are
- 35:47Speaker 2: you a packing cube guy? My wife is Curry loves
- 35:50Speaker 2: it not just so understand. It's like making a tiny
- 35:52Speaker 2: suitcase inside your bigger suitcase. She's like, yeah, but this
- 35:56Speaker 2: is now, I know that this is this out. I'm like, yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 2: but it's I'm coming to shove things in there. I
- 36:00Speaker 2: did doole to vacuum seal their packing kebs, Like my
- 36:03Speaker 2: wife did that. You talk about wrinkles, that's some wrinkles
- 36:05Speaker 2: right there.
- 36:06Speaker 1: She vacuum sealed.
- 36:07Speaker 2: You locked those wrinkles in. You better have a steamer.
- 36:09Speaker 2: She had on a packing The steamers all hermetically steal.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Into the Yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Interesting, Well, anyway, that's our show.
- 36:19Speaker 1: That's it.
