Transcript
- 0:28Speaker 1: Hello and welcome back to another Imperfect Marketing Brief.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm your host, kendra Corman, and in this week's Imperfect Marketing Brief we're going to talk about collaborations and partnerships, a little bit about how to grow your podcast through networking.
- 0:41Speaker 1: One of the biggest questions that I get is how do I grow my podcast audience?
- 0:47Speaker 1: And I usually tell people, depending on your format, one of the best ways to grow it is to have other people share it with their networks.
- 0:56Speaker 1: That's part of why I do my podcast interview episodes, because the guests on my podcast share the episode with their audience and it really helps me grow my business right?
- 1:11Speaker 1: So let's talk a little bit about networking because, as you know, networking is hugely important in business.
- 1:21Speaker 1: It really helps business to business, service providers and all different kinds of people to create connections.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Okay, networking builds a no-liking trust factor over time and it can really help grow your business, your podcast, your blog, all of that stuff and when you work with a collaborator and you can actually get a win-win solution for both parties.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So couples cli cli types of collaborations include guest appearances.
- 1:56Speaker 1: So I again regularly hear and have people on my podcast.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I am regularly a guest on other people's podcasts.
- 2:05Speaker 1: That is how I grow my audience through those guest appearances and how I grow my audience through their guest appearance on my show, because, again, people want to talk about when they were on my episode.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Okay, beyond guest appearances, though, there's also co-branded episodes and even sponsored content.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So co-branded episodes could be co-created, co-branded between you and a partner.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You could do a series of four or six on them, and each of you could release them, or you could just release them to one group of on one person's podcast, but it's co-created, co-branded, and both of you are promoting it to an extensive extent.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Okay, so just another way to go about it.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And then, of course, there are sponsored content, which could be advertising, but you can get brands to sponsor episodes and segments, and, again, they like to promote when they are on these types of things and when they're sponsoring that kind of content, because clearly you have the audience that they want to reach.
- 3:17Speaker 1: So there's just so much powerful with that.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Now, the key there is going to be finding the right partners.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You want to make sure that their audience and their content align with yours.
- 3:32Speaker 1: You do not want to be interviewing people that are not going to be adding value to your audience, because you can alienate your audience and they could go away.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So make sure that you're true to your audience there.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You want to research all of your potential partners.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You want to take a look at anything that they've ever guested on or you want to look at their website.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You want to look at all of that information to really get a good feel for if they're going to add the right amount of value and if they're the right person to partner with.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And then, when you're reaching out to them, let them know the research that you've done, where you've seen them, what you've done and what you're looking for, and always give them a way out.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Hey, if it's not the right fit for you right now, at this time, that's totally good.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Just let me know.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Either way, thanks, right Again.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Just, it's a nice, easy way to do that.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And then you want to make sure that when you're working on a collaboration especially if it's a longer term one or some sort of sponsorship agreement that there is a clear agreement.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You know exactly what you're expected to provide and what they're expected to provide, and that way nobody gets disappointed.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Either way, one of the tricks is going to be maintaining quality of your podcast.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So if you're going beyond an interview episode, right, and you're doing a longer series of co-branded episodes.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That's great.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But it could affect the quality of your podcast if they're not as good as you are or they get a little bit off topic or whatever that happens to be against.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You want to make sure that you're managing the quality and keep it focused so that you're adding value to your audience.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's all about value.
- 5:32Speaker 1: And then promotion whether it's the co-branded content or a sponsorship or anything related to having a guest appearance.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You want to share enough information so that other people can share your stuff right, so you can give them tips on how to promote those episodes.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You can give them assets on how to promote to those episodes.
- 5:59Speaker 1: The easier you make it for people, the better off things are Okay.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So again, be careful.
- 6:09Speaker 1: You don't want to have mismatched audiences, because then you're not adding value to either person's audience.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You don't need to change it into a sales pitch.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Again, it's all about value, so do not make it into a promotion.
- 6:23Speaker 1: But this is a great way to partner and network, to grow your business and your podcast at the same time.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Have you tried co-promotion?
- 6:36Speaker 1: Have you tried leveraging and growing through your guests?
- 6:41Speaker 1: I'd love to hear how that's worked for you.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Let me know Again.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I'd love to hear If you are listening or watching and got some value out of this episode.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I would really appreciate it if you would rate and subscribe wherever you're listening or watching, so that really helps me out.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Have a great rest of your day.
