- 1:35posting clips from the show on there and yeah just like why not just if you
- 1:41want more podcast content make sure you like and subscribe,
- 1:46so in real news okay so meta has been ordered to pay 25 billion dollars in a
- 1:53new mexico case because of consumer protection and online safety regulations.
- 1:59Okay, just to begin, like $25 billion is a lot of money.
- 2:05Like that's enough to buy 25 billion things that cost a dollar.
- 2:10And 25 billion things are like a lot, a lot, a lot of things.
- 2:15Yeah, I don't really know how many things that would be. I guess,
- 2:19yeah, that would be 25 billion things. But like visually, I don't really know
- 2:23how you would say that. Anyway, it's a lot.
- 2:26That's Lindsay math for you right
- 2:28there. Okay, so what happened was New Mexico, the state, sued Meta in,
- 2:342021 because they were like, you guys are misleading everybody about the safety
- 2:40of Instagram and Facebook, and you're putting a lot of kids at risk.
- 2:44But also, like, not even just at risk anymore. Like, a lot of kids have unfortunately
- 2:49committed suicide because of what's been happening on social media.
- 2:54So New Mexico is like, you guys suck at handling this stuff.
- 2:58And, like, it's not safe for young kids to be on it and you're not making it any better for them.
- 3:05So this past March, a jury found Meta liable for violating New Mexico's consumer protection law.
- 3:12And the jury found almost 43.9 million violations i don't know why they didn't
- 3:18just round up to 44 million i don't know how you violate 0.9 of a violation but okay,
- 3:25and then they told them that they owe the state 375 million dollars as a punishment,
- 3:31but then in like a different part of the case the court was like oh by the way
- 3:36guys you also owe us 25 billion dollars just because like you guys fucked up
- 3:42and that's what you owe us.
- 3:44And Metta, of course, is like, no, we don't. And they're going to appeal this case.
- 3:48Kind of reminds me a lot like of me appealing my unemployment cases or my warranty claim on my mattress.
- 3:56That's just literal lunch money to Zuckerberg. And Meta has been like,
- 4:00we have really invested in safety measures.
- 4:04And they were like, guys, like, we are doing everything that we can to protect
- 4:08young kids. I don't know why you're saying that we're not.
- 4:11And like $25 billion is a lot of money. Will that bankrupt Zuckerberg?
- 4:16No, because doesn't he have like trillions of dollars? I don't know. He has a lot of money.
- 4:21But this company, though, does have a lot of information on us.
- 4:25Like, they're listening. They're literally listening to me right now.
- 4:28They're listening to you. Listen to this.
- 4:30They know what you're watching. They know what you're doing.
- 4:32They know who you're following. They know what you like. They know what you don't like.
- 4:36And they know, like, what you're going to do before you know what you're going to do.
- 4:41Like, Meta knows everything about all of us, except how to actually fix our
- 4:46lives, which would probably be more helpful.
- 4:49And now they have to pay $25 billion to New Mexico.
- 4:55They should just pay for everybody's therapy instead. Probably be more worth it.
- 4:59Apple is about to launch their foldable phone. It is called the iPhone Duo,
- 5:05and it is the first folding iPhone.
- 5:08It goes on sale October 23rd, tomorrow, and the starting price is $1,999. $1,999.
- 5:16Yeah, our phones are still technically not $2,000 yet.
- 5:21So now you can spend $1,999 on a phone that folds in half.
- 5:28So when the phone is closed, it has like this screen that's like five inches.
- 5:34But when you open it up, you get like seven inches, almost eight inches,
- 5:39which is what he said. I'm sorry I had to say that.
- 5:43So basically the phone has turned into a mini tablet.
- 5:47It's basically an iPad at this point. And Apple is like, okay,
- 5:50so the bigger screen is for watching videos and gaming and like multitasking.
- 5:55So now you can like watch Netflix and scroll Instagram on your phone at the same time.
- 6:00So we can, my ADHD is going to pay off here so much.
- 6:06And now this iPhone has two batteries.
- 6:09And Apple says that it has up to 31 hours of video playback.
- 6:15Like that's enough battery life to watch an entire TV series,
- 6:19text your friends, and still have enough battery life to stalk your ex.
- 6:25But the reviews on this phone are like not that good.
- 6:28Wired said the phone is a 7 out of 10. It was like it has a really nice design.
- 6:34It's smooth and like has great battery life.
- 6:37However, they're saying that the phone is super heavy and some apps still haven't
- 6:42been like optimized yet. So they like look really weird on a big screen.
- 6:47And also the camera isn't that good yet.
- 6:50And also there's like some software features that are weird and you need like
- 6:53the Apple Pencil for, but Apple said that they're not going to add it till later this year.
- 6:59So you can buy the iPhone Duo for $1,999. You can also buy a protective case
- 7:07for $79 or a case with a kickstand for $129.
- 7:13And because you're spending basically $2,000 on a phone, what's another $129 to protect it?
- 7:21But this new iPhone is kind of raising a really important question here.
- 7:25Like, do we need a bigger iPhone that can do more and like we can multitask
- 7:32on? Like, have we become so addicted to our phones that we have to like be on
- 7:36Instagram and working at the same time?
- 7:39Do we actually need this? Maybe we do. Or maybe we can go backwards a little
- 7:44bit and have like less of a screen. Maybe we don't need to be on our phones this much.
- 7:49I know I definitely don't need to oh my god actually that is a reminder I do
- 7:53need to check my Farmville I haven't checked it in a couple days my cows are probably starving.
- 7:58Okay anyway so if you are a girl you probably grew up playing with American
- 8:04Girl dolls like me okay ready get this Samantha is back remember she was like one of the top,
- 8:12big like American Girl dolls like you had to have.
- 8:16Well, she's back. It's like a whole thing.
- 8:18So now she's 25 years old. She's fighting for her inheritance,
- 8:23and she's working on a department store, and she's dating two people.
- 8:27Yeah, so Samantha has this new adult novel called Samantha, The Next Chapter.
- 8:33It kind of sounds very sex in the city, but it's American Girl Doll.
- 8:38And it's by one of the authors, Fiona Davis, who wrote the books before like
- 8:43this is so exciting for like little lindsey like you know american girl dolls are back,
- 8:50and like i'm also kind of relieved i'm actually very relieved that i probably
- 8:54have way too much in common with this girl and i'm not going to say why but you can probably guess,
- 8:59so the book actually came out like last week because it's the 40th anniversary
- 9:03american girls and it takes samantha who originally lived with her wealthy grandmother
- 9:08in this town of mount Bedford, New York, it's a fictional town,
- 9:12and puts her into the 1920s as a young suffragist trying to reclaim her inheritance
- 9:18while working at this department store.
- 9:21So Samantha went from playing with a doll-sized T-set to fighting for women's
- 9:26rights and financial independence.
- 9:28Meanwhile, I went from playing with a doll-sized T-set fighting for financial dependence.
- 9:35So this book also talks a lot about women and their roles and all the cultural
- 9:40stuff back then and how things are so similar between today and the 1920s.
- 9:46This book is also connected to American Girl's 2026 Girl of the Year,
- 9:50Raquel Reyes, who was Samantha's great-great-granddaughter, which makes me feel how old I am,
- 9:58and she discovers Samantha's diary at a family celebration.
- 10:02And do you remember the American Girl place at Rockefeller Center?
- 10:06Way back when, you used to go out for tea and, like, maybe get a doll if you were lucky.
- 10:11Okay, maybe that was just me. It always seemed like everybody was coming back with dolls.
- 10:15Well, they're doing still very, very well there. It's a 40,000 square foot store
- 10:21and it has a hair salon, a cafe,
- 10:24and now you can buy $20 bag charms and a $265 bunk bed for your doll.
- 10:32I remember when my sister, she broke the doll's leg and like we had to go up
- 10:37to New York City from Philly to get the doll's leg fixed.
- 10:41And she like had to go on crutches and it was, I don't even want to know how
- 10:45much my parents. I mean, back then, it wasn't like, you know,
- 10:48I mean, now it probably wasn't that expensive.
- 10:50But like today, I can't even imagine how much it was. But like back then,
- 10:54it was probably like 50 bucks or something. And my parents were like,
- 10:56what the fuck? Like, that's so insane.
- 10:59And then like today, it's probably like $150. And parents are still probably
- 11:02like, what the fuck? That's insane.
- 11:04In Lindsay life. So yesterday I was sitting at a cafe down in the West Village
- 11:10and like doing some work on my computer.
- 11:12And these two girls sat down next to me and they were, they were pretty young.
- 11:17And then it turned out that they were actually very young, the more and more that they talked.
- 11:21And I was pretending not to eavesdrop and being like very invested in my computer,
- 11:24but like they were wild girls.
- 11:27Like we were sitting outside and their first thing I could tell that they were
- 11:31from out of town because they were watching dogs go walk by and the one turns
- 11:36together and was like can you believe how many dogs are in the city and then they probably like,
- 11:42get into like these people's beds at night like that's so gross like they're
- 11:46walking around new york city ew,
- 11:49and i was like oh boy here we go now i have to listen so it turns out these
- 11:53girls are like in their early 20s they both like just got married they're from
- 11:58like north or south carolina,
- 12:01and they're like in New York.
- 12:03They wanted to like figure out where the best cookie stores were.
- 12:07Juan heard that the East Village was like super exciting and they had to go
- 12:11check it out. Anyway, it was it was really cute.
- 12:14Things I hear from my bedroom window that's right on the sidewalk of New York City.
- 12:20Mom, it's like really hard to get a boyfriend in New York. I'm just really trying
- 12:25to prioritize myself right now. All of the apps suck.
- 12:29And this was an adult woman to a bunch of kids. Now I know that you might not
- 12:34like them all, but we're about to see them in a second.
- 12:37And to make friends, you have to wave.
- 12:39So make sure when we're walking by right now that you wave at them.
- 12:43He lives in Brooklyn with 30 roommates. Cooking tip of the day.
- 12:48If your kale is about to go bad just put it in the air fryer with like some
- 12:51salt and olive oil and now you have kale chips yum,
- 12:54feedback comments questions a nice jewish boy looking for a date email me at
