Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. Today, it's our Friday's
- 0:30Speaker 2: Drinks episode, but we're taking it with a twist, as
- 0:34Speaker 2: some people do with their martinis. Do they do that? Maybe?
- 0:38Speaker 2: As as you may have noticed, this is not Victoria
- 0:42Speaker 2: Divine speaking. This is Georgia King speaking, and joining me
- 0:46Speaker 2: is the lovely Jessica Ricci. Hello, Jay Rick.
- 0:50Speaker 3: It's just the two of us today, Just the gals.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Just the gals.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Victoria Divine is a freaking busy lady. I tried and
- 0:58Speaker 3: I tried to find time in her calendar, and we
- 1:01Speaker 3: do normally have our standing Friday Drink day every week,
- 1:04Speaker 3: which we love. But this week something came up and
- 1:07Speaker 3: unfortunately she couldn't make it. But the show must go on,
- 1:09Speaker 3: and that means we get the mic.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We get the mic, and to kind of spice things up,
- 1:17Speaker 2: we thought we'd do a Q and DA with G
- 1:21Speaker 2: and Jay little episode. Did you like that?
- 1:25Speaker 3: I loved it? Rhymed, it was fun.
- 1:28Speaker 2: So brace yourself, guys, because over the next what are
- 1:31Speaker 2: you reckon? Half an hour or so? Jay Rick, We're
- 1:32Speaker 2: going to be answering all of your burning questions for
- 1:35Speaker 2: the two girls who, well, you know stuff about finance.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I don't really know that much, but you know, I'm
- 1:40Speaker 2: a nice girl, a nice lady.
- 1:44Speaker 3: We're going to do our best. Victoria Divine, if you're listening,
- 1:48Speaker 3: I kind of hope that you aren't, because we did
- 1:49Speaker 3: this without permission. Please be kind to us. Were as
- 1:53Speaker 3: you say, we're doing our best, but we are also
- 1:56Speaker 3: not financial advisors.
- 1:57Speaker 2: All right, jess where do we start? I guess we'll
- 2:00Speaker 2: by talking about the pods that were this week. So
- 2:04Speaker 2: kick us off with a little recap of Money Diaries.
- 2:06Speaker 2: So on Monday, it was Tony's last episode. She's headed
- 2:11Speaker 2: off to work on other things, which we're so excited
- 2:13Speaker 2: and proud of her for. So the girl spoke to
- 2:16Speaker 2: a diarist who immigrated from Brazil to Australia to be
- 2:21Speaker 2: with her long distance partners. They've been doing long distance
- 2:24Speaker 2: for a year and her partner was from New Zealand,
- 2:26Speaker 2: so they've both moved here with no experience, fresh start,
- 2:30Speaker 2: no savings. They are actually ten k in debt and
- 2:35Speaker 2: so coming from that their own lives, all of a
- 2:37Speaker 2: sudden they're living together they've moved to a new city,
- 2:39Speaker 2: they've paid off their debt, they have savings. Now, they're
- 2:42Speaker 2: absolutely kicking goals and it was just really cool to
- 2:46Speaker 2: hear about. I guess their journey to now. I mean
- 2:49Speaker 2: everybody has a really interesting journey, of course, but I
- 2:52Speaker 2: think making such a significant life change and then they
- 2:56Speaker 2: ended up on top. They now have a six figure
- 2:58Speaker 2: investment portfolio together.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Really great one. I highly recommend it.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It sounds like there was lots in there.
- 3:03Speaker 3: To our park absolutely. What did you guys chat about
- 3:06Speaker 3: on Wednesday?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Wednesday was another jolly festive episode.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Jayree, can you tell I had control?
- 3:14Speaker 2: There is a lot of crissy content coming everyone's way,
- 3:17Speaker 2: a fair warning. But this week we chat it about
- 3:19Speaker 2: sustainable gifting, which was really interesting because obviously last week
- 3:24Speaker 2: we spoke about the Twelve Saves of Christmas, and it
- 3:27Speaker 2: was really great to find out ways of cutting back
- 3:30Speaker 2: on the crazy spending that we all do at Christmas,
- 3:33Speaker 2: but tackling it from a sustainability perspective was super super interesting.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I thought it would be cute to reel off some stats.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Here for you, Jayrey.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh, you haven't listened to the B episode yet, So
- 3:48Speaker 2: the amount of waste we produce increases by thirty percent
- 3:52Speaker 2: at Christmas time. Wow, that's a lot.
- 3:55Speaker 3: That is so much, especially when you think that I, like,
- 4:00Speaker 3: I wouldn't know the start off the top of my head.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I am no winner as good as you, but like,
- 4:04Speaker 3: on average, the amount of waste that we produce now
- 4:06Speaker 3: is compared to ten years ago, has increased astronomically already,
- 4:10Speaker 3: So to chuck another thirty percent on top of that
- 4:13Speaker 3: is insanity. Oh, it's insane.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And a massive part of that day, which comes from plastic,
- 4:19Speaker 2: which makes a lot of sense. We produce one hundred
- 4:22Speaker 2: and twenty five thousand tons of waste just from plastic
- 4:26Speaker 2: packaging at this time of year, and we spend an
- 4:29Speaker 2: extra five hundred and fifty four million dollars on food
- 4:32Speaker 2: at this time and a third of that goes to waste.
- 4:35Speaker 3: So there's a lot going on, especially when you think
- 4:39Speaker 3: about not everyone's You know, it's a time to be
- 4:42Speaker 3: with people you love and enjoy, but it does break
- 4:45Speaker 3: my heart a little bit thinking about the people who
- 4:47Speaker 3: aren't so fortunate, and especially when there's so much going
- 4:51Speaker 3: to waste. I totally get wanting to do a big doo,
- 4:54Speaker 3: especially after the last couple of years that we've had.
- 4:56Speaker 3: But I would really encourage people if you do have
- 4:59Speaker 3: a excess of things. I know it's really hard to do,
- 5:03Speaker 3: but if there's a way to pass that on to
- 5:04Speaker 3: someone less fortunate. There's food banks that are always looking
- 5:07Speaker 3: for things. At this time of year, heaps of great
- 5:09Speaker 3: charities are looking for donations. Maybe we could pop a
- 5:12Speaker 3: thread up actually in the group today about giving back
- 5:15Speaker 3: for Christmas, because I think our community is so smart
- 5:19Speaker 3: and there are always people whenever we mentioned something on
- 5:21Speaker 3: the pot being like, oh I wonder if that's a thing,
- 5:23Speaker 3: there's always people that have the answer. So I'll check
- 5:25Speaker 3: that up in the FACY group today. If you're not
- 5:27Speaker 3: a part of it, let's get that chat going because
- 5:30Speaker 3: it's been a tough time, you know, for everybody.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, definitely, And yeah, guys, do listen to that
- 5:36Speaker 2: episode if you need tips, if you're still getting your
- 5:39Speaker 2: holiday gifting together. There were lots of kind of ideas
- 5:42Speaker 2: in there to help you out as to how you
- 5:44Speaker 2: can do it sustainably, So give it a listen. We
- 5:46Speaker 2: love it amazing.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Now normally we would do a bit of a deep
- 5:50Speaker 3: dive into a thing and gee, you and I would
- 5:53Speaker 3: be the ones bringing to questions. Victoria would be the
- 5:55Speaker 3: one doing the answering.
- 5:56Speaker 2: She certainly would.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Neither of us are shall we say, finance experts.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I feel like you're getting their doll I remember last
- 6:05Speaker 2: week you had all the tips and tricks.
- 6:07Speaker 3: My best, but I'm no Victoria Divine. But what I
- 6:10Speaker 3: thought we could do instead? I checked a post up
- 6:12Speaker 3: on Instagram today and asked people to ask us some questions.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I did throw the caveat in that we are not
- 6:17Speaker 3: as knowledgeable as Victoria, but I thought maybe we could
- 6:20Speaker 3: run through, do a bit of a Q and a
- 6:22Speaker 3: what do you reckon? We love? We love? All right,
- 6:25Speaker 3: let me have a scroll through and hit you with
- 6:27Speaker 3: some questions.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I'm sweaty, yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 3: It's really hot today. Should we start off with a nice,
- 6:34Speaker 3: a nice simple one. What are your big money goals?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Shi King? Tell me about you?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Okay, I think despite everything I've learned over the last
- 6:45Speaker 2: two years from being involved with Shoes on the Money,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I think home ownership is still probably the number one
- 6:53Speaker 2: big money goal, as I know it is for you.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I'd say that's that's my biggest goal, and then I
- 7:00Speaker 2: I think starting investing the proper way like the step above.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Micro investing, I think would be my second big money goal.
- 7:09Speaker 3: How about you check on your home ownership journey, because
- 7:12Speaker 3: as you say, it's also I'm exactly in the same
- 7:15Speaker 3: boat as you. That's my big goal right now, and
- 7:17Speaker 3: I know it's so overwhelming. We actually put a post
- 7:20Speaker 3: up on the property Playbooks Instagram this week. The property
- 7:23Speaker 3: market has been projected by Westpac to have increased twenty
- 7:26Speaker 3: two percent in the last twelve months. Yeah, that is
- 7:30Speaker 3: so much, and especially when we're talking about large sums
- 7:34Speaker 3: of money. You know, it blows my mind that a
- 7:37Speaker 3: pretty average house I'm looking an hour outside of the
- 7:42Speaker 3: city is still over half a million dollars. You're looking
- 7:45Speaker 3: at between five hundred and six hundred thousand dollars for
- 7:48Speaker 3: just a really basic home, which the prices, you know,
- 7:53Speaker 3: getting that deposit together can be so hectic.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's insane. I feel like I feel like
- 8:00Speaker 2: for me, I'm just and I feel like regular listeners
- 8:03Speaker 2: to the podcast would definitely know that I still plan
- 8:06Speaker 2: to live overseas sometime soon, hopefully COVID depending, So I
- 8:12Speaker 2: think for me, I'll move overseas so one or two
- 8:15Speaker 2: years and then hopefully come back. Hopefully the market has
- 8:19Speaker 2: crashed and I can just jump in there, buy myself
- 8:22Speaker 2: a hot little mansion and then go from there. But yeah,
- 8:27Speaker 2: I think I'm kind of just I've got like a
- 8:29Speaker 2: nice little deposit there for when I need it, and then, yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 2: when it comes time, hopefully I'll actually be able to
- 8:37Speaker 2: afford something halfway decent. Tell me about your home journey
- 8:41Speaker 2: so far, Jess, I.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Feel like I'm getting to the pointy end. I am
- 8:45Speaker 3: currently waiting to get my pre approval back, which is
- 8:48Speaker 3: super exciting. I've been chatting to a mortgage broker, I've
- 8:51Speaker 3: been listening to all the Property Playbook episodes, which has
- 8:53Speaker 3: been super helpful. I definitely have an advantage in that
- 8:56Speaker 3: I have direct access from Victoria and can ask them
- 8:59Speaker 3: all of my dulous questions. But yeah, once I get
- 9:03Speaker 3: that pre approval back, in an ideal world, that process
- 9:07Speaker 3: will run through startup next year, which is exciting. I'm
- 9:11Speaker 3: I'll probably be building just because in terms of the cost,
- 9:15Speaker 3: I want to take advantage of the grants that are
- 9:17Speaker 3: available for first home owners in Victoria, and the stipulation
- 9:21Speaker 3: there is that it needs to be a new home
- 9:23Speaker 3: that hasn't been occupied before, So building is looking like
- 9:27Speaker 3: the way to go for me. But finding land is
- 9:30Speaker 3: really hard. Picking a builder is really hard. The whole
- 9:34Speaker 3: thing is just really hard. So everybody keep your fingers
- 9:37Speaker 3: crushed for me that my pre approval comes through. But yeah,
- 9:41Speaker 3: we'll see how we go.
- 9:42Speaker 2: That's so exciting.
- 9:44Speaker 3: It is exciting but also very overwhelming.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, such an adult now, Jay Rick, that's
- 9:50Speaker 2: a very adult moment.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I think so. But Steph asked us would love to
- 9:55Speaker 3: hear how you girls have changed your financial life since
- 9:58Speaker 3: working at Share for the Money. And I know you
- 9:59Speaker 3: said before that you despite everything, you're kind of just
- 10:04Speaker 3: plodding along, which I really admire. But have you made
- 10:08Speaker 3: any changes at all if you think back? Obviously you're
- 10:10Speaker 3: the ogg king. You've been here, you know, the longest
- 10:13Speaker 3: out of everybody. Has there been anything that you've kind
- 10:16Speaker 3: of changed or learned there has had a big impact
- 10:19Speaker 3: on you.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Oh, that's a good question. It's a really good question.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I think.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I think something I've really learned over the last two
- 10:27Speaker 2: years is to kind of go more easily on myself
- 10:31Speaker 2: when it comes to spending money. I'm a dirty hoarder
- 10:37Speaker 2: and I like to hold on to my cash. So
- 10:42Speaker 2: over the last kind of couple of years, I've let
- 10:45Speaker 2: myself spend my money and realized, George, you work so hard.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Absolutely you do. Yeah.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So I think that's probably one of the biggest things
- 10:53Speaker 2: that's changed for me that I'm weirdly proud of. It's
- 10:56Speaker 2: kind of like a reverse it's not what you would expect.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I guess it's really good.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I think, especially this time of year when people have
- 11:02Speaker 3: been working so hard, it can feel really confronting to
- 11:05Speaker 3: all of a sudden be just making a rain on
- 11:07Speaker 3: Christmas presents and dinner, yeah, all that stuff. So I
- 11:09Speaker 3: think it's really great that you, yeah, are a bit
- 11:12Speaker 3: more comfortable doing that and obviously doing it responsibly, but
- 11:14Speaker 3: not restricting yourself super significantly either, because you do deserve
- 11:18Speaker 3: to enjoy your life and to some externally, the money
- 11:21Speaker 3: is there to be spent. I mean, don't get crazy,
- 11:22Speaker 3: but yeah, what's life if you don't enjoy.
- 11:24Speaker 2: It, you know, and that's it.
- 11:26Speaker 3: That's it.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I think the other key thing I would say there
- 11:29Speaker 2: as well, is like an increased level of self respect
- 11:33Speaker 2: and self worth. And I feel like that's something that
- 11:35Speaker 2: VICKI d get over here girl, but from a finance perspective,
- 11:42Speaker 2: like I think, especially as a freelancer, there's always that
- 11:45Speaker 2: tendency to undervalue yourself and not really know what you're worth.
- 11:49Speaker 2: But Victoria has really helped me and I hope a
- 11:53Speaker 2: lot of our listeners to realize that, like it's a
- 11:55Speaker 2: really good thing to talk about money, have conversations, own
- 11:59Speaker 2: your worth, and then ad tax as she says. So
- 12:02Speaker 2: I think that's probably they're my true big key learnings
- 12:06Speaker 2: from the last two years. Donny, how about you, Jesse?
- 12:09Speaker 3: Jesse?
- 12:10Speaker 2: I've never called you Jesse. Do people call you Jesse?
- 12:13Speaker 3: No. The only person who really ever has is a
- 12:16Speaker 3: guy I used to work with, and it was super
- 12:18Speaker 3: weird vibe it at all. But I think for me
- 12:23Speaker 3: there's kind of two things, and the first one is
- 12:25Speaker 3: probably more so from not from working here, but from
- 12:29Speaker 3: she's on the money, because we've said before, I came
- 12:31Speaker 3: from the community. That's how I got this job. But
- 12:34Speaker 3: it was paying down your debt. I paid off eight
- 12:37Speaker 3: thousand dollars of credit card debt in a matter of
- 12:40Speaker 3: six months after listening to the pod, just by realizing
- 12:43Speaker 3: that I had terrible habits and I had initially gotten
- 12:48Speaker 3: that card as you know, an emergency came up. I
- 12:51Speaker 3: was due to go overseas. My car just carcked it
- 12:54Speaker 3: and I couldn't afford to pay for it, so I
- 12:56Speaker 3: got a card and put it on that, and then
- 12:59Speaker 3: it was just incremental spending of being like, oh, I'm out,
- 13:03Speaker 3: don't have money in my account, I don't have reception.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I should put on the credit. I can't pay it back.
- 13:06Speaker 3: And then obviously those things just snowball so quickly, and
- 13:09Speaker 3: I found myself with this debt and at the time,
- 13:11Speaker 3: I was trying to save, and I thought I was
- 13:14Speaker 3: doing really well because I loved seeing the numbers going
- 13:16Speaker 3: up in my savings account. And then listening to the pod,
- 13:19Speaker 3: I heard Victorious say once if you have debt and savings,
- 13:21Speaker 3: you don't have savings because you're actually robbing future you
- 13:24Speaker 3: with the interest and the line of credit and all
- 13:27Speaker 3: of that stuff. And so I once I heard that,
- 13:30Speaker 3: I was like, oh my gosh, what have I been doing?
- 13:32Speaker 3: And I paid it down really aggressively. But that mindset
- 13:36Speaker 3: of having needless credit is actually quite detrimental to your finances.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Even if your savings are going up, it's not necessarily
- 13:43Speaker 3: putting you in the best position that you could be in.
- 13:46Speaker 3: And so that's something that really stuck with me. And
- 13:47Speaker 3: then I think the other thing is just investing consistently.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I had never thought about investing ever in my life,
- 13:54Speaker 3: as far as I'm aware, My family never invested. It.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Just money wasn't something that was spoken of a lot.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I just knew it was a really significant stressor in
- 14:03Speaker 3: my family, and so the idea of creating wealth was
- 14:06Speaker 3: not something that had ever crossed my mind. Like I
- 14:09Speaker 3: thought I was doing well to just you know, have
- 14:12Speaker 3: paid off my debt and be like wow, great, like
- 14:14Speaker 3: that's a big thing. And then my eyes were just
- 14:16Speaker 3: open to this whole world of things that I had
- 14:19Speaker 3: never spoken or heard about. And then obviously being around
- 14:22Speaker 3: it all the time in the office, we talk about
- 14:24Speaker 3: investing in the market and the community does as well,
- 14:27Speaker 3: and just realizing the value of even if it's a
- 14:29Speaker 3: small about even if I'm chucking fifty bucks into my
- 14:33Speaker 3: space ship every month, that consistency means that I'm getting
- 14:37Speaker 3: the most of dollar cost averaging and I'm getting the
- 14:39Speaker 3: most of my money, and if I leave it there,
- 14:41Speaker 3: which is my intention, it'll just chug away on its
- 14:44Speaker 3: own and kind of generate its own money, which is incredible.
- 14:48Speaker 3: You not me.
- 14:49Speaker 2: That's how one knew exactly.
- 14:51Speaker 3: I know.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I feel like before she's on the money, I definitely
- 14:54Speaker 2: fell into the camp of thinking that investing was like gambling,
- 14:57Speaker 2: like why would you do that safe? But yeah, that's
- 15:02Speaker 2: been such a learning curve and I feel like, hopefully
- 15:05Speaker 2: the pod has helped and the community has helped people
- 15:08Speaker 2: come around to the idea of investing in. Now you know,
- 15:11Speaker 2: there's a whole cohort of us who are going to
- 15:13Speaker 2: be rich. We're all going to be rich. That's the end,
- 15:17Speaker 2: We're all going to be Yeah. That ended poorly from George,
- 15:21Speaker 2: but that's okay. What's our next question?
- 15:23Speaker 3: Jay Rick? The next one is unsurprisingly Christmas themed. Would
- 15:27Speaker 3: you expect any less from me at this time? Yeah?
- 15:31Speaker 3: But Sophie asked, how are we going with our Christmas budgets?
- 15:34Speaker 3: She said, if we're comfortable sharing, don't have to put
- 15:36Speaker 3: a dollar while you want it. But how are you going?
- 15:38Speaker 3: I know that we spoke a couple of weeks ago
- 15:40Speaker 3: about the fact that, you know, the blowouts are feeling
- 15:43Speaker 3: a bit big coming off the back of another lucky
- 15:46Speaker 3: d Are you feeling on track? Are you feeling comfortable.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I'm I'm feeling comfortable. I'm actually really excited with what
- 15:56Speaker 2: I have got planned for all of my family members.
- 15:59Speaker 2: We're not doing a KK this year, which is maybe
- 16:02Speaker 2: a bad thing for my bank account, but I think
- 16:05Speaker 2: it's it has been such a weird year yet again,
- 16:08Speaker 2: and I kind of I want to express my love
- 16:12Speaker 2: for my family in a material way.
- 16:15Speaker 3: To do that, sometimes it's okay to do that.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Sometimes.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Gifting is one of my top love languages. Phasicly, Yeah,
- 16:21Speaker 3: if you anyone listening the five love languages that this
- 16:23Speaker 3: test you can do. It kind of tells you how
- 16:25Speaker 3: you like to display and receive love. It's quite insightful.
- 16:28Speaker 3: But yeah, gifting is one of my top love languages.
- 16:30Speaker 3: And I fully get you where you're like, it's been
- 16:32Speaker 3: a rough year. I haven't seen you. I just want
- 16:34Speaker 3: to give you love in the form of something for simple,
- 16:37Speaker 3: not just a hug, And yeah, that's okay as well.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Like I know, we talk about saving and on the
- 16:42Speaker 3: pod we've spoken about like doing it sustainably, doing it affordably,
- 16:45Speaker 3: which are all important things to consider, but also if
- 16:49Speaker 3: it's within your means and it brings you joy, I
- 16:51Speaker 3: don't think that it's a bad thing to sure want
- 16:54Speaker 3: to share that with your loved ones.
- 16:56Speaker 2: And there's ways to do it as well. Like, for example,
- 16:59Speaker 2: when we were talking about Black Friday, and I was like,
- 17:02Speaker 2: I didn't buy anything for myself, but I used those
- 17:05Speaker 2: sales to like get ahead and get some some hot
- 17:07Speaker 2: deals for the gifts. So yeah, I feel like I
- 17:10Speaker 2: feel like my budget was kind of I don't know,
- 17:12Speaker 2: I feel like I've blown it out a little bit,
- 17:13Speaker 2: but I'm not too stressed about it. Yeah, how about you.
- 17:18Speaker 3: I have definitely blown out a little bit. Black Friday
- 17:21Speaker 3: got me good with things for the most part that
- 17:24Speaker 3: I needed and gifts, but still a little more than
- 17:27Speaker 3: I kind of expected. But I think, as you said earlier,
- 17:31Speaker 3: I'm trying to be gentle on myself. I have saved
- 17:33Speaker 3: a lot of money this year with the lockdowns, which
- 17:35Speaker 3: has been a fortunate byproduct of an unfortunate situation, and yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 3: like things for myself, things for my friends that same
- 17:44Speaker 3: as you, I just I kind of want to make
- 17:47Speaker 3: the end of this year a really good one. It's
- 17:48Speaker 3: been pretty hectic at the She's on the money office,
- 17:51Speaker 3: as it has been everywhere, and I'm just kind of
- 17:54Speaker 3: looking forward to having a good time, and so yeah,
- 17:58Speaker 3: I've had to let go a little bit. I'm usually
- 18:00Speaker 3: really strict on my budget, but I've tried to ease
- 18:03Speaker 3: back a little bit and let myself do that. Good.
- 18:07Speaker 3: I have another budgeting question for you. Actually, at this one,
- 18:10Speaker 3: you said you were thinking about moving overseas Ebaniewe. Let's
- 18:13Speaker 3: just talk about budgeting for moving overseas and not working.
- 18:17Speaker 3: And I know that you guys did a podcast episode
- 18:20Speaker 3: on this, so definitely worth at least in ebony. But
- 18:23Speaker 3: have you I know that obviously moving overseas is right
- 18:27Speaker 3: now a distant, hopeful thought, but how much have you
- 18:31Speaker 3: thought about it? How kind of prepared are you getting
- 18:34Speaker 3: knowing that this is something that you want to do.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Good question.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Look, as I think I've said on the pod before
- 18:40Speaker 2: as well, I have wanted to do this since before
- 18:44Speaker 2: I was on the podcast for a good three or
- 18:47Speaker 2: four years maybe, and then like I got a good
- 18:50Speaker 2: job and I was like, I'll stick around for this
- 18:52Speaker 2: and I'll go later, and then the penny d happened
- 18:55Speaker 2: and here we are. So it's still you know, it
- 19:00Speaker 2: still does depend on what is going to happen in
- 19:03Speaker 2: the world over the next few months. So what I've
- 19:06Speaker 2: kind of set myself up with is this decent amount
- 19:09Speaker 2: of savings that I'll kind of dedicate to like a
- 19:11Speaker 2: London account. So I've kind of got that little nest
- 19:16Speaker 2: egg there already. And then when it comes time, like
- 19:19Speaker 2: this isn't something I'm going to be doing next week.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I think when it closes in on maybe like the
- 19:25Speaker 2: two to four months out from the actual process, that's
- 19:28Speaker 2: when I'll start seeing where I'm at, looking at apartments
- 19:32Speaker 2: and visas and jobs and all of that. But we'll
- 19:35Speaker 2: see how we go. I'm not too far into that
- 19:38Speaker 2: process yet. It's still a bit of a pipe dream,
- 19:41Speaker 2: but we will see.
- 19:42Speaker 3: I love that. I think you'll have the best time.
- 19:44Speaker 3: I could just see you being one of those really cool,
- 19:46Speaker 3: mysterious girls that sits in a cafe writing in a notebook,
- 19:50Speaker 3: sipping on a coffee in like some European country.
- 19:53Speaker 2: No, I'll be in like Starbucks, using their Wi Fi
- 19:55Speaker 2: on Facebook or something.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Next question, do you think it's worth having two jobs?
- 20:03Speaker 3: Say one full time and then one casual on the weekends.
- 20:06Speaker 3: You're a freelancer, gee, so you I feel like, have
- 20:09Speaker 3: a good perspective on this.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah, gosh, I feel like I'm hugging all of the
- 20:13Speaker 2: answers here, Jessica. Do I think it's a good idea.
- 20:19Speaker 2: It depends. It depends what you're doing it for. I
- 20:22Speaker 2: would say, so if you're doing it for career progression,
- 20:26Speaker 2: then I would say big ticks. If you're doing it
- 20:29Speaker 2: for financial reasons because you are very keen to get ahead,
- 20:33Speaker 2: or if you need to do it, then of course
- 20:35Speaker 2: do it. But I would say it's definitely a trade off.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Like at the moment, I work full time and then
- 20:42Speaker 2: I do shees on the money and I've just finished
- 20:44Speaker 2: my masters, and I have to say, like this year
- 20:47Speaker 2: has been a slog It's it's been really hard to
- 20:51Speaker 2: juggle all of that. And I think, you know, if
- 20:54Speaker 2: I had my time again, I don't know that I
- 20:56Speaker 2: would work as much as I have. And I'm only
- 20:58Speaker 2: at the start of my career. Like who cares, I
- 21:01Speaker 2: don't have kids or anything like that. Like I'm a
- 21:04Speaker 2: very I can be selfish and self centered and put
- 21:06Speaker 2: energy into my career. But I think it does it
- 21:09Speaker 2: does take a toll on your friendships and you know,
- 21:14Speaker 2: your romantic relationships, so you just you need to know
- 21:16Speaker 2: why you're doing it and weigh it up whether or
- 21:19Speaker 2: not it's going to be worth it for you. Does
- 21:21Speaker 2: that make sense? That felt like a ramble?
- 21:23Speaker 3: No, not at all. You're you finish your master's congratulations.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you.
- 21:27Speaker 3: But with that happening now, do you see things easing
- 21:30Speaker 3: back a bit? Are you planning on maybe winding back
- 21:33Speaker 3: the freelance stuff a bit or are you going to
- 21:36Speaker 3: keep going while you can. How are you feeling, because
- 21:38Speaker 3: I know, juggling all that stuff sounds like a sure
- 21:41Speaker 3: fight way to get yourself burned out really quickly. Yeah. Yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 3: Do you have plans to dial it back or you're
- 21:46Speaker 3: going to just kind of ride the way for a bit?
- 21:48Speaker 2: Look, the honest answer is I'm working on the cricket,
- 21:52Speaker 2: so I'm going to be working every day until February,
- 21:55Speaker 2: but except for Christmas Day, so that's good. But when
- 21:58Speaker 2: we get there, like I pretty much just have a
- 22:00Speaker 2: view to go on a holiday in like March and
- 22:04Speaker 2: I'm just gonna sit on a beach. I'm going to
- 22:06Speaker 2: drink a cocktail and cry. I don't know, No, you'll
- 22:12Speaker 2: be happy.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, true, I think so.
- 22:15Speaker 2: But yeah, that's I think when I get to that point,
- 22:18Speaker 2: then I'll reassess. But for now it's just kind of
- 22:20Speaker 2: head down, bum up, and push on. But yeah, is
- 22:26Speaker 2: it admirable?
- 22:27Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I feel like working too hard.
- 22:30Speaker 3: I don't know about it. As you said, I think
- 22:32Speaker 3: it's good if it gets you where you need to go.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Like I only stopped working two jobs at the end
- 22:40Speaker 3: of last year. I had always worked full time and
- 22:43Speaker 3: then also worked in a retail setting because I've worked retail.
- 22:48Speaker 3: That was my first job. I've worked retail since I
- 22:50Speaker 3: was fourteen and nine months, and as I got older,
- 22:54Speaker 3: I always just kept it as a job on the
- 22:55Speaker 3: side for a little bit extra cash. I'd work on
- 22:57Speaker 3: a Sunday because the Sunday rates Yeah, on point, And
- 23:01Speaker 3: even there it's nowhere near the workload like what you've
- 23:04Speaker 3: done this year. But even that I found quite challenging,
- 23:08Speaker 3: especially the last few years when as I've kind of
- 23:10Speaker 3: grown more into a career role and I'm taking on
- 23:13Speaker 3: more responsibility and my workload's a lot higher, not having
- 23:16Speaker 3: that time to yourself can be really taxing, definitely, and
- 23:20Speaker 3: there are absolutely benefits to it. The biggest one for
- 23:22Speaker 3: me was financial, and that's why I did it. But yeah,
- 23:27Speaker 3: it can be really hard. It can also be really hard,
- 23:29Speaker 3: I think managing two sets of workplace dynamics, which I
- 23:33Speaker 3: think is a bit of a weird something you wouldn't
- 23:35Speaker 3: necessarily think about so much, but especially for me, Like
- 23:40Speaker 3: I was older. I am twenty seven, and I was
- 23:42Speaker 3: working retail at the good old House of g Glassons
- 23:45Speaker 3: for anyone out there, did you I worked there for
- 23:48Speaker 3: like six years, but it was really hard because it
- 23:51Speaker 3: got to the point where I was kind of a
- 23:52Speaker 3: little bit older than a lot of the girls that
- 23:54Speaker 3: work their fashion retail. It's often young girls. They like
- 23:57Speaker 3: that they can pay the minimum wage. I have a
- 23:59Speaker 3: lot of thoughts feelings on this, yeah, And I mean
- 24:02Speaker 3: it was great, like I worked with wonderful people, but
- 24:05Speaker 3: it got to the point where I was just like,
- 24:07Speaker 3: this is so far removed from my normal job, from
- 24:11Speaker 3: my normal I guess vibes and people that I work
- 24:15Speaker 3: with that I felt quite out of place. And I
- 24:17Speaker 3: don't know if that's a common thing, and it's no
- 24:19Speaker 3: reflection on the people that were there. It just was
- 24:21Speaker 3: very much like we were at completely different stages of life.
- 24:25Speaker 3: And so, you know, I, on one hand, am working
- 24:28Speaker 3: in a career role doing things that are really important
- 24:31Speaker 3: to me, and then I'm standing behind a counter and saying, Hi,
- 24:34Speaker 3: do you want to buy a two dollars tote bag
- 24:36Speaker 3: to go with your jeans?
- 24:38Speaker 2: I hate it when they asked me that question.
- 24:40Speaker 3: I'm a real sucker for it as well because I
- 24:42Speaker 3: had to do it for so long. So I just
- 24:44Speaker 3: know and I'm like, fine, kap eyes up. There's also
- 24:48Speaker 3: that factor as well. I think keeping track of true
- 24:52Speaker 3: sets of like social things. You know, there's every workplace
- 24:56Speaker 3: has its own little political kind of structure and things
- 24:58Speaker 3: that are going on, and keeping track of all that
- 25:00Speaker 3: can peel a lot as well. So yeah, yeah, I
- 25:03Speaker 3: think you're right. It depends on what it is. It
- 25:04Speaker 3: depends on what you do. I don't know that ears work,
- 25:07Speaker 3: to be honest, all that helpful with that question. I'm
- 25:09Speaker 3: just a big life story style.
- 25:11Speaker 2: But no, I think privilege does come into this discussion
- 25:16Speaker 2: for sure, And like if you need to work that
- 25:19Speaker 2: extra job to put food on the table, then do
- 25:22Speaker 2: it for sure. Like you know, it was naive of
- 25:25Speaker 2: me just to go straight to the career point perspectives.
- 25:28Speaker 3: That was naive. No, you're absolutely right, You're I should
- 25:31Speaker 3: have said that before as well. It's it's a very
- 25:33Speaker 3: fortunate position to be in where I'm saying I'm working
- 25:36Speaker 3: for money rather than I'm working to feed myself or
- 25:40Speaker 3: to feed my family. Yeah, and I think doing that
- 25:42Speaker 3: and all of my little complaints that I just made
- 25:45Speaker 3: so much respect for working parents and people who who
- 25:50Speaker 3: do do that, because it's so common for people out
- 25:52Speaker 3: there to have to work incredibly hard just to get by.
- 25:56Speaker 3: And I have so much admiration for people like that.
- 25:59Speaker 3: All RIGHTY going to be a little selfish here for
- 26:01Speaker 3: it because someone asked a question for me which I
- 26:03Speaker 3: was very bad. Kate asked what does my pet budget
- 26:06Speaker 3: look like? And then she said, I just want to
- 26:08Speaker 3: give just an excuse to talk about Daisy. Thank you
- 26:11Speaker 3: so much, because I don't do it often enough. Everyone's
- 26:14Speaker 3: probably sticker hearing about my cat at this point. If
- 26:16Speaker 3: you don't know, I adopted a cat this year thanks
- 26:17Speaker 3: to the community who helped me find her. To be honest,
- 26:22Speaker 3: I don't really have a pet specific budget. This is
- 26:25Speaker 3: actually a question that we get asked a lot about
- 26:27Speaker 3: budgeting for pets and pet insurance, which we considered doing
- 26:31Speaker 3: an episode on, but then we kind of thought it
- 26:33Speaker 3: might not be that interesting, but let us know. Yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 3: I do not have pet insurance or a pet budget,
- 26:39Speaker 3: so I'm actually terrible to answer both of those questions.
- 26:42Speaker 3: The reason I don't have pet insurance is because I
- 26:45Speaker 3: have enough money in my emergency fund. I did look
- 26:49Speaker 3: into it, and I am kind of still weighing up
- 26:52Speaker 3: the pros and cons. Obviously, Daisy is quite young, so
- 26:55Speaker 3: it's not a huge issue right now. She's also an
- 26:58Speaker 3: inside cat. It's probably worth no time, so it's not
- 27:01Speaker 3: as if she's outside picking up less things like that.
- 27:07Speaker 3: In terms of budgeting, she's just kind of worked into
- 27:10Speaker 3: my general budget, so like my allocation for groceries covers
- 27:14Speaker 3: food and litter and things of that nature, and then
- 27:17Speaker 3: my personal splurge money will occasionally be used on her,
- 27:21Speaker 3: like the eighty dollars water fountain I am buying her
- 27:24Speaker 3: for Christmas.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Oh my god, stop it.
- 27:28Speaker 3: I know that's so ridiculous, but I just couldn't help myself.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I need to see this. What should I google?
- 27:35Speaker 3: Catwater Fountain fairy Tale is the website I've been waiting
- 27:40Speaker 3: to see if they have a discount code come up.
- 27:42Speaker 3: The reason I want it is because it's clear Daisy,
- 27:45Speaker 3: being spoiled cat that she is, will only drink from
- 27:49Speaker 3: a glass. She will not drink from.
- 27:52Speaker 2: A Jessicaci, what do you mean?
- 27:57Speaker 3: You know how you have a glass of water on
- 27:58Speaker 3: your bedside table for you. There are true glasses of
- 28:01Speaker 3: water on my bedside table. There's a tall one for
- 28:03Speaker 3: me that she can't reach over, and there's a short,
- 28:06Speaker 3: fat one that she can fit her face in for
- 28:08Speaker 3: her so she doesn't have to get up to drink.
- 28:10Speaker 3: It's by the bed, Princess Daisy. I've been trying to
- 28:15Speaker 3: train her to drink from a bowl, which she's just
- 28:16Speaker 3: never done it. And I thought that these little fountains
- 28:19Speaker 3: they're clear, so they look like a glass, because I thought,
- 28:21Speaker 3: maybe she's dumb and she doesn't realize that there's water
- 28:24Speaker 3: in there because she can't see it. Perhaps that sounds
- 28:28Speaker 3: would work. She loves running water. It's so unnecessarily bougie.
- 28:31Speaker 3: But stuff like that, as I was saying, comes out
- 28:33Speaker 3: of like my splurge money. I don't pet account. That's
- 28:37Speaker 3: just what I know that for some people, they really
- 28:40Speaker 3: want to have like every kind of expense catered for,
- 28:43Speaker 3: which I totally understand.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just not for me interesting. I want to
- 28:48Speaker 2: see content of that fountain please.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, well, I'm going to be so mad
- 28:52Speaker 3: if I buy it and then she doesn't.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:55Speaker 3: I could spend that money and she could just do
- 28:57Speaker 3: the classic cat thing and be like, I don't want that.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I'm just looking at it now. It's actually very sheep
- 29:02Speaker 2: what they do.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Beautiful.
- 29:03Speaker 2: They have these pet mats that I really want to get,
- 29:05Speaker 2: but they're also like fifty dollars and I was just,
- 29:08Speaker 2: pet mat, is that what they You just put it
- 29:10Speaker 2: like under their food so that if they're messy eat
- 29:12Speaker 2: it or they spill the water, it doesn't go on
- 29:14Speaker 2: the floor, right, Okay.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Honestly, probably really unnecessary. But they're beautiful, pal and I
- 29:19Speaker 3: want them, but I draw the line there. Yeah, okay,
- 29:23Speaker 3: fair cool. Alexandra asked have we got any New Year's goals?
- 29:27Speaker 3: Have you been thinking about it? And you yeah, is
- 29:30Speaker 3: it too soon? It's not.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I don't think it's too soon, my goodness, when nearlie
- 29:34Speaker 2: at the end of the year. But I would say,
- 29:37Speaker 2: based on the last two years, like, I think the
- 29:41Speaker 2: most we can do is just keep on keeping on,
- 29:44Speaker 2: keep smiling, keep loving, keep laughing. I just think setting
- 29:49Speaker 2: any kind of goal is like just setting yourself up
- 29:52Speaker 2: for failure? Is that that's actually very true? The real
- 30:03Speaker 2: George comes out when Vicki's not here.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Bizarre.
- 30:07Speaker 2: What would you say your goals are?
- 30:08Speaker 3: Well, I mean a house. I yeah one. It's my
- 30:12Speaker 3: singular focus right now. It's actually a little bit crazy
- 30:16Speaker 3: how much I think about it. I reckon three times
- 30:18Speaker 3: a day. I log onto the money Smart website and
- 30:20Speaker 3: just play with the mortgage repayment calculator to be like,
- 30:23Speaker 3: what can I do? How fast can I do it? Yeah?
- 30:26Speaker 3: Neagaet level.
- 30:27Speaker 2: That's so exciting though.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Yeah. So with that, and I would love to get
- 30:31Speaker 3: my investment portfolio, which is currently quite small, I'd love
- 30:35Speaker 3: to get that up to ten K. I think that
- 30:37Speaker 3: would be really exciting. You know, remains to be see
- 30:41Speaker 3: if I can do that, but that would probably be
- 30:43Speaker 3: my second like big one.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Incredible. I'm going to jump on that and say that
- 30:47Speaker 2: I'm also going to start investing next year.
- 30:49Speaker 3: How's that that's more positive? You can do it. You've
- 30:51Speaker 3: been saying it for so long. I really believe time
- 30:53Speaker 3: to take the plunge.
- 30:54Speaker 2: All right, hold me to it.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Yeah, we will remind you, Okay, so Victoria's not here.
- 30:59Speaker 3: I thought we could maybe try one or two financing
- 31:03Speaker 3: questions with the caveat that we are not financial advisors,
- 31:07Speaker 3: and this is also not personal advised.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I can see us getting some really negative Apple reviews
- 31:12Speaker 2: off the back of this.
- 31:14Speaker 3: We're playing with fire. If you think we do a
- 31:17Speaker 3: good job, please don't please go leave us a positive
- 31:19Speaker 3: Apple peat virus.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. If you don't, just don't worry about it,
- 31:25Speaker 2: just turn it off. So Julie asked, I have about
- 31:29Speaker 2: ten thousand dollars in commission. Should I invest it or
- 31:32Speaker 2: putting it into savings for a house deposit. Now, as
- 31:35Speaker 2: we said, this is not advice. We can't tell you
- 31:38Speaker 2: personally what to do, is it what you would do?
- 31:41Speaker 3: Maybe? Well, yeah, or even how to come to that decision.
- 31:45Speaker 3: I think that you know, as we were just talking
- 31:48Speaker 3: about you, you can have a goal, absolutely, but you
- 31:51Speaker 3: sometimes have to prioritize one over the other. You can
- 31:54Speaker 3: achieve anything, but you can't do everything, particularly all at once.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Is a quote that I really like. I might have
- 32:01Speaker 3: messed that up slightly, so apologies if I say it,
- 32:04Speaker 3: but I think it's really true, and especially when it
- 32:06Speaker 3: comes to finance, I think that sometimes you've got to
- 32:09Speaker 3: kind of go, Okay, this is my number one goal
- 32:13Speaker 3: that I am focusing on. So talking about me personally,
- 32:15Speaker 3: as I've been saying, the house is my goal. Investing
- 32:18Speaker 3: is something that's really important to me. But I have
- 32:20Speaker 3: scaled back the amount that I have been investing and
- 32:24Speaker 3: redirected that into my house deposit because for me, that's
- 32:27Speaker 3: my number one goal, and you know, something kind of
- 32:31Speaker 3: had to give to be able to get me where
- 32:32Speaker 3: I wanted to go in the timeframe that I wanted
- 32:34Speaker 3: to do it. I kind of felt like I did
- 32:36Speaker 3: need to pick something to focus on. That doesn't mean
- 32:39Speaker 3: that it's forever and once I kind of get on
- 32:42Speaker 3: track with that, you know, as I said before, coming
- 32:45Speaker 3: back to investing is something that's very important to me.
- 32:48Speaker 3: But I do think that maybe Julie, you kind of
- 32:52Speaker 3: just have to have a look at it and go
- 32:54Speaker 3: which goal is more important to you with investing. Obviously,
- 32:58Speaker 3: time in the market is money. The longer you're there,
- 33:00Speaker 3: the longer you have time for your money to compound.
- 33:04Speaker 3: But conversely, the market, as we said, is increasing exponentially,
- 33:08Speaker 3: so it might be quite challenging to do both. And
- 33:11Speaker 3: I think potentially the best way to make that decision
- 33:13Speaker 3: would be to really look at your goals and really
- 33:16Speaker 3: clearly outline what you want to achieve and in what
- 33:19Speaker 3: time frame, and hopefully, hopefully that will help answer your question.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Do you any thoughts? Do took the words out of
- 33:27Speaker 3: my mouth? That was so impressive? Or yes, that was
- 33:33Speaker 3: so good.
- 33:35Speaker 2: The only thing I would add to that would be,
- 33:36Speaker 2: maybe think about timelines. So if you're looking at buying
- 33:40Speaker 2: a house in ten years, then perhaps do invest that money.
- 33:44Speaker 2: But if we're looking at buying a house in the
- 33:46Speaker 2: next couple of years, maybe maybe don't do that. That's
- 33:50Speaker 2: what I would say. George's two cents.
- 33:52Speaker 3: I really like it.
- 33:52Speaker 2: That's a really great Thanks so much.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Here's one that I personally love to see. Tips for
- 33:56Speaker 3: finding quality items on Deep hop thrifting Facebook marketplace. How
- 34:01Speaker 3: don't know if it's good? Ge you and I both
- 34:03Speaker 3: love a secondhand bargain. If this question was good for anyone,
- 34:07Speaker 3: it was asked and you always are immaculately dressed your
- 34:11Speaker 3: style stop it. How do you find the goods? How
- 34:14Speaker 3: do you know?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm I was gonna say I'm older than you.
- 34:19Speaker 2: I'm not. I'm not older than you. I feel older
- 34:21Speaker 2: than you. You're so much hippa and yell, and that's
- 34:25Speaker 2: not true at all. So you're like the online thrift queen,
- 34:29Speaker 2: whereas I'm better in store at getting down there and
- 34:33Speaker 2: down hitting the shop. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, So I
- 34:37Speaker 2: love a good op shop, and I think the keys
- 34:39Speaker 2: for me would be one, never up shop when you're hungover.
- 34:43Speaker 2: You will buy some heinous things that you don't need
- 34:46Speaker 2: and they will end up in landfill. The second's tip
- 34:49Speaker 2: would just be caffeination and dedication and fascination and imagination.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I think you when you're hitting the uppies, you've really
- 35:00Speaker 2: need to be dedicated to the cause. You need to
- 35:02Speaker 2: look in every aisle, you need to play with gender,
- 35:05Speaker 2: you need to have fun, and you need to be yourself.
- 35:09Speaker 2: So that's my big advice for up shopping and hit
- 35:12Speaker 2: up like the rich people's suburbs. That because the point
- 35:16Speaker 2: the hot old ladies. They're throwing away some fancy stuff
- 35:19Speaker 2: that you can pick up for three dollars.
- 35:21Speaker 3: And everything comes around like they would have worn it
- 35:23Speaker 3: fifty years ago.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Exactly trend now, yes, yes, yes, yes, So they're my tips.
- 35:28Speaker 2: What about you depop coin, Yeah, well.
- 35:31Speaker 3: I Yeah, I really love an online secondhand opportunity, And
- 35:35Speaker 3: you know, it might be the lazy option because I'm
- 35:38Speaker 3: not sitting there rifling through things individually. I tend to
- 35:42Speaker 3: stick to brands that I know, And if you've been
- 35:45Speaker 3: around for a little bit, you know I'm really big
- 35:47Speaker 3: on the concept of Facebook marketplace manifestation. I am convinced
- 35:53Speaker 3: I can manifest any specific thing that I want on
- 35:56Speaker 3: to Facebook markplace. I have done it so many times,
- 35:58Speaker 3: and I think that really comes down to, and it
- 36:01Speaker 3: goes for deepop or any other online platform as well. Keywords.
- 36:05Speaker 3: So if you're looking for something from a brand, have
- 36:07Speaker 3: the notifications on for that brand. You can do that
- 36:09Speaker 3: on deepop. You can do that on Facebook. It will
- 36:11Speaker 3: notify you whenever somebody lists something. Look for descriptions as well,
- 36:15Speaker 3: particularly with things like furniture. People might have bought a
- 36:18Speaker 3: couch and not remembered where they bought it from, so
- 36:20Speaker 3: instead of saying what I kia sodohom couch, it might
- 36:24Speaker 3: say white couch or ike couch. So like kind of
- 36:27Speaker 3: looking for those keywords. And then when it comes to fashion,
- 36:31Speaker 3: I will look for the brands that I know, particularly
- 36:35Speaker 3: in the sizes that I know, because the hard thing
- 36:37Speaker 3: about doing it online is you can't try it on. Obviously,
- 36:39Speaker 3: you can always onsell it though, so the risk is
- 36:42Speaker 3: relatively low. But if I want something, I will storm,
- 36:46Speaker 3: I will stalk deep Hop, Poshmark, Facebook. All of them
- 36:51Speaker 3: are my dress, someone actually asked in the question we
- 36:54Speaker 3: posted a really cute photo of me and g Someone
- 36:56Speaker 3: asked where the dress I was wearing is from. It's
- 36:58Speaker 3: from House of Ceabe. It's like a two hundred and
- 37:01Speaker 3: fifty dollars dress, which is so much money, but I
- 37:04Speaker 3: got it on deepop for one hundred and twenty bucks. Amazing.
- 37:07Speaker 3: I was stalking the House of cb tag on deepop
- 37:09Speaker 3: for weeks and weeks and weeks until they turned up.
- 37:12Speaker 3: So dedic dedication, imagination, sophistication, clarification.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I know you've nailed it.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, maybe you should create.
- 37:24Speaker 2: A side hustle that's like personal buying with j Rick
- 37:27Speaker 2: and people come to you. They're like, sis, find me
- 37:30Speaker 2: this chic Nignata shirt. I don't want to pay more
- 37:33Speaker 2: than two hundred dollars for it. Go and then you're
- 37:36Speaker 2: assigned a three week period. Three to four weeks, you
- 37:39Speaker 2: find the atom and you send out an invoice girl
- 37:42Speaker 2: like that could be.
- 37:43Speaker 3: To be honest, I don't know if I'm that good.
- 37:45Speaker 3: I think you are.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Don't sell yourself short, but yeah.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Like really, I think it's as you say, the ations,
- 37:50Speaker 3: the dedication, the sophistication. It's just about getting out there,
- 37:55Speaker 3: whether you're instare or online, doing those things. Making sure
- 37:58Speaker 3: that there's photos, and if you're buying online, ask them
- 38:01Speaker 3: for photos the actual garment because people will often just
- 38:03Speaker 3: post the stock image from the website. Make sure that
- 38:06Speaker 3: you get photos of the actual thing so that you
- 38:09Speaker 3: can make sure that it hasn't got like tears or baby.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely smart.
- 38:14Speaker 3: I reckon We've given enough that a lot of cues,
- 38:18Speaker 3: some questionable a's from us, a lot of fun to
- 38:21Speaker 3: be had around Ah, for sure, no one unless they
- 38:25Speaker 3: well yeah in that case. Yeah. But just before we
- 38:30Speaker 3: head off, we would really like to acknowledge and pay
- 38:32Speaker 3: respect to Australia's Aboriginal and Torros Strait islander people's the
