- 1:17Speaker 4: sharing her best brogue tips with us. We're going to
- 1:19Speaker 4: be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma, which this
- 1:22Speaker 4: week is all about the best way to manage cash
- 1:24Speaker 4: flow between multiple bank accounts, and we're going to be
- 1:27Speaker 4: unpacking something you slid into our DMS about which this
- 1:30Speaker 4: week is managing rent after a breakup. So let's get
- 1:34Speaker 4: straight into it. But first things first, my friends, how.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Were your weeks?
- 1:38Speaker 5: Mine was really nice. It's been really busy but good.
- 1:42Speaker 2: That's a good thing. Is that a good thing? Yeah?
- 1:44Speaker 2: I think so.
- 1:44Speaker 5: I feel like I'm always I don't have time to
- 1:47Speaker 5: figure out if I'm not happy because I'm too busy busy.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:51Speaker 4: Ye, life, I'm fool that you don't have time to
- 1:54Speaker 4: think about your emotions. It's actually tried and true strategy
- 1:58Speaker 4: and true push.
- 2:00Speaker 2: We don't need those emotions.
- 2:02Speaker 4: We need is a breakdown, and you'll get one if
- 2:05Speaker 4: you keep doing that.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It's a very good idea. Come organically.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Yeah, nice, nice, All right, Well, miss Jessica Ricci was
- 2:12Speaker 4: your week just as good?
- 2:14Speaker 6: It was thrilling. We had some sun in Melbourne?
- 2:16Speaker 2: We love? What's that all about it? Where did that
- 2:20Speaker 2: come from? I don't know? But it can stay. I'd
- 2:22Speaker 2: be very happy. If I'm not proud, we're just confused.
- 2:24Speaker 6: Not mad at all. Our go to skin care code came.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Back, which is a ten out of ten.
- 2:29Speaker 4: I am genuinely so excited about this because obviously go
- 2:32Speaker 4: to skincare don't give out their codes that freely, like
- 2:35Speaker 4: they're hard to get.
- 2:36Speaker 2: But because our.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Community asked so many times, they were like, yeah, okay,
- 2:39Speaker 4: here it is.
- 2:40Speaker 6: Everyone can thank Anne, who was the first person to
- 2:42Speaker 6: comment on our posts this week when we put up
- 2:44Speaker 6: a little posty post with go to which we're obsessed
- 2:47Speaker 6: dying the fact that they are paying us money.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I actually I.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Can't believe that. Like I've made it. I've made it.
- 2:53Speaker 4: I went in there one time. I can die happy.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Me too.
- 2:57Speaker 6: So she coment on the post and said, oh, guys,
- 2:59Speaker 6: like is the code?
- 3:00Speaker 2: When's the code?
- 3:01Speaker 6: We if you remember last time, we only got it
- 3:03Speaker 6: for one week.
- 3:04Speaker 2: That was it.
- 3:04Speaker 6: They're like one week, that's.
- 3:05Speaker 2: All you get. We were like, okay, no problems, are
- 3:08Speaker 2: you a little bit?
- 3:08Speaker 6: I worked it. It was good me too. And then
- 3:11Speaker 6: Am commented and I put it on the stories. I
- 3:13Speaker 6: was a little bit cheeky and I said, hey, God,
- 3:15Speaker 6: use your audience. You want the code, go comment and
- 3:18Speaker 6: then I scream shot it.
- 3:20Speaker 4: I said it's straight to go to, Like, Hi, we
- 3:23Speaker 4: really need this. It would make our community really happy.
- 3:27Speaker 6: So one more week only, I feel like, what's the code?
- 3:29Speaker 6: Won't get it again? So fifteen fifteen percent off across
- 3:32Speaker 6: the site. Incredible. We'll put all the details in the
- 3:35Speaker 6: description in case I've gotten something.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Have you ever thought that maybe go to a reverse
- 3:38Speaker 4: engineering this and they just got a really good advertising
- 3:41Speaker 4: segment on our podcast.
- 3:42Speaker 2: We haven't really thought about this, you know what I
- 3:45Speaker 2: meant too deeply? No, no, no, let's go too deeply.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Let's get on with the week, because like I'm excited
- 3:50Speaker 4: about it. I needed that fifteen percent of because I'm
- 3:53Speaker 4: almost out of my son's screen and that's money win
- 3:55Speaker 4: exactly into Oh my gosh, Jessica Rich, is it time
- 4:00Speaker 4: for money with?
- 4:01Speaker 2: I think it my fair? Oh my gosh, what have
- 4:02Speaker 2: you got for us this week? I did not see
- 4:04Speaker 2: it coming.
- 4:05Speaker 6: My first money whin comes from Clara, who said, I
- 4:07Speaker 6: run out of my fifty pack of pilates classes today.
- 4:10Speaker 6: They went on sale with twenty percent off, so I
- 4:12Speaker 6: bought another fifty, saved almost one hundred and seventy dollars,
- 4:15Speaker 6: and I'm just impressed that class fifty.
- 4:20Speaker 2: This is so impressive.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I don't think I've like, yeah, I don't think I've
- 4:25Speaker 4: either been to that many classes.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Maybe I've skipped that week.
- 4:28Speaker 4: Oh yeah, skipped fifty for sure, But do you know
- 4:31Speaker 4: would have gone to fifty classes?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Gabby? So, Gabby's on our team.
- 4:35Speaker 4: You've probably heard of her before, but far out she's
- 4:37Speaker 4: like the pilates queen.
- 4:38Speaker 2: She loves her pilates.
- 4:39Speaker 6: She does indeed, well, maybe she can see if she
- 4:41Speaker 6: can get a bulk discount next time she looks.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I don't even know if my studio offers fifty packs.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Maybe because they don't have that much faith in us.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Maybe not.
- 4:49Speaker 6: My next money win comes from Lauren, who said money win.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Cam Art thirty nine dollars knee high healed boots they slay.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Oh do you know what? I have had so many
- 4:59Speaker 2: dms about this, suggess.
- 5:00Speaker 4: I think we should go and check out Camar and
- 5:03Speaker 4: see what their boots are like, because I need winter
- 5:05Speaker 4: boots and they're so expensive. Like I went into David
- 5:08Speaker 4: Jones the other day, I went into May. I was
- 5:10Speaker 4: checking out a few different options. One I couldn't find
- 5:13Speaker 4: a pair of boots that I liked. True, every time
- 5:15Speaker 4: I looked at them, I'm like, that's so much money? Like, yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 4: I already don't have them, do I really need them?
- 5:21Speaker 4: And yeah, I've got analysis paralysis, so maybe we should
- 5:23Speaker 4: just go to Kmart.
- 5:24Speaker 6: I have a couple that I bought from Kmart last
- 5:25Speaker 6: year of the year before, and they're still going strong.
- 5:27Speaker 4: I bet they're the ones that everyone asks about always too.
- 5:30Speaker 4: How happens all the time?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Very cute.
- 5:32Speaker 6: My next money wind came from Emma, who said money win.
- 5:35Speaker 6: I bought some plants and was gifted for variegated monster
- 5:39Speaker 6: cuttings and some anthriums and three.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Uriums and atherums.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Sam, if you don't leave that in there, please pleasely
- 5:49Speaker 4: and theorium? Do you know what I know exactly who
- 5:52Speaker 4: that is because I follow her on TikTok be cause
- 5:55Speaker 4: you little known fact about me that's only little known
- 5:58Speaker 4: if you don't follow me on my personal socials is
- 6:00Speaker 4: I have an addiction to exotic plants like I really
- 6:04Speaker 4: like buying like very gated monsters. I've got a few
- 6:07Speaker 4: Tai constellations. I've definitely spent a lot of money on
- 6:10Speaker 4: a few al but anything that.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Is hard to get me hold off. Yeah, I'll show
- 6:13Speaker 2: you later. I got beautiful and so jealous.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Yeah, would you say a guilty pleasure, like they're like
- 6:19Speaker 4: my children. I will show you them when you come
- 6:21Speaker 4: to my house anyway to be gifted four cuttings. People
- 6:23Speaker 4: pay for those, so that is, and they're very expensive,
- 6:27Speaker 4: like a cutting of a very gated MONSTERRA is like
- 6:30Speaker 4: at least one hundred and fifty dollars each. Anyway, for
- 6:33Speaker 4: those of you who might follow me on my personal account,
- 6:35Speaker 4: I bought my elbow from her brother in No, from
- 6:39Speaker 4: her brother in law, like I'm in the plant community
- 6:41Speaker 4: now like I'm not, but like I just I'm in
- 6:43Speaker 4: the no guist.
- 6:45Speaker 2: She knows, she knows.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Just need it on record that I keep hearing very
- 6:50Speaker 5: gay monster up.
- 6:53Speaker 2: It's a very gay monster.
- 6:56Speaker 6: You know what that looks like?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Why don't you have one? I can't fully they don't
- 7:00Speaker 2: have a very gay monsterra.
- 7:02Speaker 4: You know what, I'll take it. What's next money win?
- 7:05Speaker 4: Because Beck's already lost it.
- 7:07Speaker 6: The next money win is from Deborah and she said,
- 7:09Speaker 6: I just said yes to the dress. Thanks to Marketplace.
- 7:12Speaker 6: My dress retails for four thousand dollars, and I found
- 7:14Speaker 6: it online for twenty five hundred with a veil. Money
- 7:16Speaker 6: win bargained it to two thousand without the veil and
- 7:18Speaker 6: we tried on. It was a little bit big and
- 7:21Speaker 6: it had a stain, so I offered fifteen hundred dollars.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Don't she agreed, Oh my gosh, how good is that?
- 7:26Speaker 2: A little hustler turn out of ten?
- 7:28Speaker 6: Huge saving there. My next money win comes from Kim,
- 7:31Speaker 6: who said I had a medical procedure on Monday, which
- 7:33Speaker 6: I was told was going to cost me three hundred
- 7:35Speaker 6: and eighty dollars.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Out of pocket.
- 7:36Speaker 6: After the procedure they told me it was one hundred
- 7:38Speaker 6: percent covered by Medicare. I love that money week price,
- 7:43Speaker 6: that's unreal. And then my last money win for this
- 7:45Speaker 6: week came from Bridget who said I got rush ticks
- 7:47Speaker 6: on today, ticks to see Come from Away, so good
- 7:50Speaker 6: and amazing seats one hundred and forty dollars tickets for
- 7:53Speaker 6: forty five.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Oh, were you confused to I it was?
- 8:00Speaker 2: I thought it was.
- 8:01Speaker 6: I think a rush tick is like a last minute
- 8:03Speaker 6: ticket and this must be a platform.
- 8:06Speaker 4: I had no idea, to be honest, when you said tick,
- 8:09Speaker 4: I was like, that is a small bug that you I'm.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Sorry that You've got.
- 8:15Speaker 6: Great way if you're a theater girly to see some
- 8:18Speaker 6: amazing shows I've heard Come from Away is absolutely outstanding.
- 8:21Speaker 6: I have used last ticks before and they are also great.
- 8:24Speaker 6: That's tick with an X, not a C. That's how
- 8:26Speaker 6: you got confused. Tick ticks tick.
- 8:28Speaker 2: That is really really cool.
- 8:29Speaker 6: Left it that's because they're usually so expensive. Great My
- 8:34Speaker 6: last und support the arts round.
- 8:37Speaker 4: All right, let's segue again into hopefully what is another
- 8:40Speaker 4: money win?
- 8:41Speaker 1: Beck?
- 8:41Speaker 2: Have you got a broke tip for us this week?
- 8:43Speaker 2: If so, what is it?
- 8:44Speaker 4: Yes?
- 8:45Speaker 5: Okay, So, I'm actually very excited for this new little segment.
- 8:49Speaker 5: A few people wrote into me on my Instagram at becksied.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I'm very grateful for you guys, and we're encouraging this.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Yes, strongly encouraging this, strongly encouraging.
- 8:59Speaker 2: And thank you for supporting me.
- 9:01Speaker 5: So my first one this week is from Sarah Luise,
- 9:04Speaker 5: who said that if you are out of foundation, it
- 9:07Speaker 5: need to go to an event, or you just need
- 9:09Speaker 5: a few days or a week until payday, pop into
- 9:12Speaker 5: makeup giants such as Mecha or Sephora and grab a
- 9:15Speaker 5: sample of something which I know I am smart.
- 9:18Speaker 2: It's very very smart.
- 9:19Speaker 5: I can't fully relate to the makeup side of things,
- 9:21Speaker 5: but it did get me thinking about when you're going
- 9:24Speaker 5: to an interview or a date, you don't have perfume maya.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Oh, just swing past, do a little bit of spritzy spirits,
- 9:30Speaker 4: fritzy spirts and she smells expensive.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Now smells expensive.
- 9:34Speaker 5: I really really like this one.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I do that a lot. Actually, you're quite smart, very clever.
- 9:38Speaker 5: So my second broke tip for this week is from
- 9:41Speaker 5: Karla who recommends.
- 9:42Speaker 2: That I follow this person on Instagram. It is Jasmine.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Or Western and her handle or their handle is Jasmine seats.
- 9:52Speaker 5: That's Jasmine without the E. At the end, she or
- 9:55Speaker 5: they kind of give their under ten dollar recipes.
- 9:58Speaker 4: F I haven't seen that one, but there's a few
- 10:03Speaker 4: on TikTok that I follow.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Jenny. I follow Jenny on TikTok. I love Jenny. Yeah.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I think her user names like jen A or something.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Anyway, she has like she goes to Kohle's or Woolies
- 10:12Speaker 4: or whatever with like ten bucks and shows you like
- 10:14Speaker 4: a good meal that you can make with ten dollars
- 10:16Speaker 4: that will feed like family, which I think is really cool.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Yes, it's Jenny one that does the mudcake CAx as well.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I'm not sure. Tiamacmac.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Yes, I love Taback Now that's some energy, wholesome energy.
- 10:29Speaker 5: So I do just want to say, Jasmine shops at
- 10:32Speaker 5: Woolworths so very accessible.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Or you know, at least pretty accessible and gets.
- 10:38Speaker 5: All of the ingredients from wool Wears and it's all
- 10:41Speaker 5: under ten dollars and you can get some really really
- 10:43Speaker 5: good recipes out of this, so healthy and fresh and
- 10:45Speaker 5: fun and yeah, so that's kind of the I love
- 10:48Speaker 5: that those are the broke tips for the week.
- 10:49Speaker 2: It's your broke tip of the week.
- 10:51Speaker 4: I'm very excited to hear because I just feel like
- 10:54Speaker 4: You've got this brain that's like a little wizard and
- 10:56Speaker 4: we all want to get inside and be like thank you,
- 10:58Speaker 4: But what would Beck do? So we're all going to
- 11:00Speaker 4: get like little plastic braces the say wwb D and
- 11:04Speaker 4: it's what would Beck do?
- 11:05Speaker 2: That is so nice? So this is I have to
- 11:08Speaker 2: be honest with you.
- 11:08Speaker 5: I My broke tip was actually the spin off of
- 11:12Speaker 5: Sarah Luise's broke tip, which is to go to my
- 11:14Speaker 5: But I do want to say this, and this isn't
- 11:16Speaker 5: something that I advise everyone to do, but a few
- 11:19Speaker 5: years ago, when I needed to change my white joggers
- 11:23Speaker 5: to black joggers, I colored the knockers permanent marker for
- 11:27Speaker 5: oh shoes color colored my shoes in with permanent marker
- 11:30Speaker 5: for a hospo job. They didn't the whole shoe, the
- 11:33Speaker 5: whole shoe, tongue and everything.
- 11:37Speaker 3: You did.
- 11:37Speaker 5: I promise, I promise it's correct. I want to know
- 11:42Speaker 5: how better it Honestly, for the amount of time.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I needed, it worked.
- 11:47Speaker 5: It worked for like one or two days, but then
- 11:49Speaker 5: once it rains it goes purple.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Did you know that you can buy collarge changing shoes.
- 11:53Speaker 2: That sounds expensive. I'm pretty sure and I did that.
- 11:56Speaker 6: You can buy leather paint is another tip that would
- 11:59Speaker 6: be a lot them buying a whole new shoe. Like
- 12:02Speaker 6: if you just buy some black leather paint, it's made
- 12:04Speaker 6: to like paint shoes and stuff like that.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Oh, that's way smarter.
- 12:06Speaker 4: I was out of s You can just get some
- 12:08Speaker 4: like rip dye and dunk them in die.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Yes, yes, if you yes, I love that, So you
- 12:14Speaker 5: don't have to go out and buy new shoes.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yes.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Why are we bothering with these solutions when we could
- 12:18Speaker 4: have just flowed them in.
- 12:20Speaker 5: You could have called them in. And also I'm thinking
- 12:22Speaker 5: if you want them to go back to white. At
- 12:23Speaker 5: some point you can just wash them straight out.
- 12:25Speaker 2: What do you mean, just wash them straight? Not that
- 12:30Speaker 2: it's do you know what?
- 12:33Speaker 4: We're canceling the money tip there or the broke chip
- 12:36Speaker 4: there because they're not going back to white. If you
- 12:38Speaker 4: color your shoe in, disclaim it here. I'm not responsible
- 12:45Speaker 4: for what happens if you try to have it your shoe.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Please don't come for us patch test it. We're not
- 12:50Speaker 4: promising that it works.
- 12:51Speaker 6: That's very true, that's good, I believe you, but also
- 12:55Speaker 6: don't want people to yell us now DMS no, absolutely not.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Someone taking that super sit They're like, this didn't even
- 13:01Speaker 4: look professional.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Jessica, I.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Carry my high heels for my wedding in black, and
- 13:08Speaker 5: they I don't know what.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Happened to try it with a pair of shoes that
- 13:12Speaker 4: I don't wear anyone. Let's go to a break before
- 13:13Speaker 4: we get the moreish tips. And on the flip side,
- 13:16Speaker 4: we're going to talk about the best way to manage
- 13:18Speaker 4: cash flow between multiple accounts, and we're going to talk
- 13:20Speaker 4: about how to manage rent after a breakup.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Don't go anywhere, guys.
- 13:29Speaker 6: Welcome back, everybody. Let's listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 13:36Speaker 4: can't solve. The Shoes on the Money team is here
- 13:39Speaker 4: to help. Every week, we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 13:42Speaker 4: and small, to answer your most burning money.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Career and life questions.
- 13:46Speaker 4: To get involved, simply head to our website and leave
- 13:49Speaker 4: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 13:51Speaker 4: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 13:53Speaker 4: this week's money dilemma.
- 13:58Speaker 7: High Ladies purchased a home and we'll have access to
- 14:02Speaker 7: an offset account where I plan to keep all my
- 14:04Speaker 7: savings in to offset my mortgage. Someone who has ten
- 14:07Speaker 7: different accounts for different purchases and expenses. Even my dog
- 14:11Speaker 7: has its own savings account. I'm stuck on how to
- 14:14Speaker 7: best manage my cash flow. Since I won't be able
- 14:16Speaker 7: to have a subcategory in my offset and it'll just
- 14:19Speaker 7: be one large amount of cash. It could potentially transfer
- 14:22Speaker 7: out my fortnightly allocation for bills and daily spending, but
- 14:26Speaker 7: this would then mean my account is an offsetting at
- 14:28Speaker 7: its full potential. I thought about keeping an Excel spreadsheet
- 14:31Speaker 7: where every time I get paid, I jop down how
- 14:34Speaker 7: much is allocated to each category, but it would get
- 14:36Speaker 7: really difficult to track if I had to make frequent withdrawals.
- 14:39Speaker 7: Thank you so much, love the show.
- 14:41Speaker 2: How wholesome. First question I have, guys, what do you
- 14:44Speaker 2: think her dog is saving for? Acturely, I don't know.
- 14:53Speaker 4: I was going to say it, and now I regret
- 14:55Speaker 4: it because it's like, not even funny. I understand that
- 14:57Speaker 4: you're probably like saving for your dogs costs or expenses,
- 15:01Speaker 4: but that makes absolute sense. Jess, you budget this way,
- 15:04Speaker 4: don't you. You have a savings account for everything?
- 15:06Speaker 6: Yes, I do, but I don't have an offset so
- 15:09Speaker 6: not yet?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Whatnot yet?
- 15:10Speaker 4: When you listen to the property playbook, you might get
- 15:12Speaker 4: an update on where Jess is at in that process. However,
- 15:16Speaker 4: I think this is actually a question for your mortgage broker.
- 15:18Speaker 4: If you don't have one, obviously, check out Zella Money
- 15:21Speaker 4: and they will hook you up. But you can actually
- 15:24Speaker 4: find a bank that would have multiple offset options. So
- 15:28Speaker 4: some banks might say, okay, Beck, you only get one
- 15:30Speaker 4: offset account, But there are a lot of banks that
- 15:32Speaker 4: also will let you have as many offsets as you
- 15:35Speaker 4: would like.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So that's the circumstance I'm in.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I can have as many as I want, and I
- 15:39Speaker 4: can use them for whatever I want, and I have
- 15:41Speaker 4: you know, different savers set up so that every single
- 15:43Speaker 4: dollar that comes into my bank account is working as
- 15:46Speaker 4: hard for me as I do free. And I think
- 15:48Speaker 4: that that's really important because obviously, you know, if you've
- 15:51Speaker 4: got a mortgage, you kind of want to offset the money,
- 15:54Speaker 4: especially when the interest rates are as high as they
- 15:56Speaker 4: are today. The other way that you could manage it
- 15:59Speaker 4: is going back to basics. So let's say that you
- 16:02Speaker 4: have had a conversation with your broker and the best
- 16:04Speaker 4: possible outcome for you is a bank that only allows
- 16:07Speaker 4: you to have one offset account. You could go back
- 16:10Speaker 4: to basics and kind of have an app or a
- 16:12Speaker 4: spreadsheet or a system that enables you to track how
- 16:15Speaker 4: much is in each account technically but keeping it in
- 16:19Speaker 4: one lump sum, and then you know, drawing off that
- 16:23Speaker 4: to your cash flow. Personally, I would say that if
- 16:27Speaker 4: your broker suggests that the best outcome for you is
- 16:30Speaker 4: a bank that only allows one offset, when you've said
- 16:32Speaker 4: that that's really important to you, to me, that's a
- 16:35Speaker 4: little bit of a red flag, because when you're getting
- 16:37Speaker 4: a mortgage, the most important thing is not just the
- 16:39Speaker 4: interest rate. There's so much to take into consideration, there's
- 16:42Speaker 4: your personal circumstances, how flexible it needs to be, whether
- 16:45Speaker 4: you're going to be fixed or variable, whether you need
- 16:47Speaker 4: multiple offset accounts, whether you need you know, lots of
- 16:50Speaker 4: different things, lots of different considerations. Some mortgages only allow
- 16:55Speaker 4: you to pay off up to a certain amount in
- 16:57Speaker 4: addition each and every single year, and you might go, well, actually,
- 17:00Speaker 4: I really want to do more than that. So you
- 17:02Speaker 4: need to look into every single semantic of your loan
- 17:04Speaker 4: before you get involved, because I think a lot of
- 17:07Speaker 4: people just look at that interest rate.
- 17:08Speaker 2: And go I want the lowest interest rate, and.
- 17:10Speaker 4: It's like okay, But with the lowest interest rate might
- 17:13Speaker 4: come additional fees and a few constraints that you might
- 17:17Speaker 4: not want to consent to. So understanding what you're signing
- 17:20Speaker 4: up for is really important. But I guess TLDR i'd
- 17:23Speaker 4: be talking to your broker and asking, hey, friend, what
- 17:26Speaker 4: bank can I go with that will give me as
- 17:28Speaker 4: many offsets as I want because that's how I budget
- 17:31Speaker 4: in cash flow, and that's really important to me.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Is basically where i'd be going.
- 17:35Speaker 4: And if you don't have a broker, obviously shameless plug again,
- 17:38Speaker 4: just go see Kate, because you'll.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Saw you out turn out to you love Kate, Love Kate. Yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 2: we will. You have to shoose your colleague. They're the rules.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I made them. Every Yeah.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I just get all these people together and I'm like, now, Keith,
- 17:50Speaker 4: like it's very, very important. But is there anything you
- 17:54Speaker 4: guys would like to add to that. I feel like
- 17:55Speaker 4: it was relatively straightforward. Get more offset accounts?
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:59Speaker 6: I like budget that way, so I feel like when
- 18:01Speaker 6: I one day buy a house, that'll be something that
- 18:03Speaker 6: I try and prioritize for sure.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Beck, what's your advice?
- 18:05Speaker 5: I would say that you're doing a great job and
- 18:08Speaker 5: keep it up.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 18:11Speaker 4: All right, We've got a bit of a spicy DM
- 18:13Speaker 4: to share with you this week. And I say it's
- 18:15Speaker 4: spicy one because of the topic. But two, you know
- 18:18Speaker 4: what Jess said off air before we got recording, Beck,
- 18:22Speaker 4: She said she thinks that you, Jess and I we're
- 18:25Speaker 4: going to be fighting over what we think is right
- 18:27Speaker 4: and wrong here, so you might see the first ever
- 18:30Speaker 4: she's on the Money street fight.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Straight. Do you know what?
- 18:37Speaker 4: Jess gorgeous, stunning, like one of the hottest people I've
- 18:41Speaker 4: met in my entire life, really intelligent, and then she
- 18:44Speaker 4: comes out with stuff like that and you're like, you
- 18:46Speaker 4: really are from the West Side, aren't you.
- 18:48Speaker 2: She's got a little bit a little bit of West
- 18:50Speaker 2: Side in it. Yeah, I believe that she could. I believe.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Yeah, sometimes I'm a little bit scared. You just got
- 18:57Speaker 4: a tread with caution. Anyway, this week's community dilemma like this, Hey, girls,
- 19:01Speaker 4: need your advice. My partner and I recently broke up.
- 19:04Speaker 4: We lived in a sharehouse with two of his friends.
- 19:06Speaker 4: There are three bedrooms, and we shared the biggest bedroom
- 19:09Speaker 4: and had a private bathroom, so we both paid a
- 19:12Speaker 4: little bit more rent than the other housemates. After the breakup,
- 19:15Speaker 4: I'm moving back home and he's staying in the house.
- 19:18Speaker 2: However, he's asked me to keep paying.
- 19:20Speaker 4: My rent for the next few months, as he can't
- 19:22Speaker 4: afford both his and my portion of the rent. I
- 19:26Speaker 4: think maybe him and the other two housemates should be
- 19:28Speaker 4: splitting this extra rent between them until they find a solution.
- 19:33Speaker 4: But then the other housemates find this unfair, which I
- 19:37Speaker 4: can understand, as why should their rent increase just because
- 19:40Speaker 4: we broke up and I'm moving out? Do I keep
- 19:43Speaker 4: paying rent even though I don't live there anymore. Of
- 19:45Speaker 4: course I don't want to, but I don't want to
- 19:47Speaker 4: put financial stress on anyone. The whole thing is very messy,
- 19:51Speaker 4: and any advice is appreciated.
- 19:54Speaker 6: So I'm going to operate on the assumption here that
- 19:56Speaker 6: it's a twelve month lease. Okay, right, Yes, Well I
- 20:00Speaker 6: don't know it's because I'm assuming if they were not
- 20:02Speaker 6: on a twelve month lease, they were month to months,
- 20:04Speaker 6: you would just give your notice to fake ate like
- 20:06Speaker 6: you would no matter what. So just setting that as
- 20:09Speaker 6: the ground shot point for all of our perspectives.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Who wants to take it away?
- 20:14Speaker 4: Now, you guys can go, because I feel like I
- 20:17Speaker 4: am going to be opinionated on this because I went
- 20:19Speaker 4: through this and I was the one that broke up.
- 20:21Speaker 5: Okay, well, then I think just go to you can
- 20:25Speaker 5: go first.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:26Speaker 6: I think that assuming you've signed on to a twelve
- 20:29Speaker 6: month lease, that is your financial responsibility, Like everyone has
- 20:32Speaker 6: moved into this house on the agreement that we will
- 20:35Speaker 6: be living and we will be paying these amounts for
- 20:37Speaker 6: twelve months, regardless of your personal life, regardless if you
- 20:41Speaker 6: were splitting, regardless if you decided to add a third
- 20:43Speaker 6: person to your room, and split the rent three ways
- 20:46Speaker 6: with them, Like your room and the two other rooms
- 20:48Speaker 6: have an agreed value that you have all said.
- 20:50Speaker 2: You will pay for twelve months.
- 20:53Speaker 6: So if you've broken up, it's not the housemates problem.
- 20:56Speaker 6: The amount that they're paying should not change, full stop,
- 20:58Speaker 6: end of story between you and your partner. I kind
- 21:01Speaker 6: of feel like, again, you've both agreed to pay this
- 21:05Speaker 6: rent for twelve months. So as much as it sucks
- 21:07Speaker 6: that you're moving out, and as much as it sucks
- 21:09Speaker 6: that you've broken up, it is still your financial responsibility.
- 21:13Speaker 6: Are there ways around that? Absolutely? Like could you split
- 21:16Speaker 6: the room like some nights, like maybe you rotate between
- 21:19Speaker 6: your parents' house and there shared custody.
- 21:21Speaker 2: I don't know. Could you imagine, could you look at it?
- 21:24Speaker 2: I couldn't imagine anything worse.
- 21:25Speaker 6: I can't think there are other options you can explore.
- 21:29Speaker 6: Do you look at both of you moving out? Like
- 21:31Speaker 6: replacing yourselves with another couple or somebody else also an
- 21:33Speaker 6: option on the table. But I just think that ultimately
- 21:37Speaker 6: you have signed a contract. That's what a lease is.
- 21:40Speaker 6: You need to adhere to that contract, regardless of if
- 21:42Speaker 6: you're living there or not. If everyone in the house
- 21:45Speaker 6: wanted to break the lease, you would have obligations to
- 21:48Speaker 6: the property management company or to your landlord. And I
- 21:50Speaker 6: think that should still stand, even though there's like personal
- 21:53Speaker 6: dynamics that are now coloring that. And I know that
- 21:56Speaker 6: that's a harsh point to take, but how all.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Right, Okay, okay, I think if what you're saying is true.
- 22:10Speaker 4: If the assumptions Jessica Ricci has drawn the twelve monthly, assuming.
- 22:15Speaker 5: The twelve monthly thing, I tend to agree with you. However,
- 22:20Speaker 5: it does sound like it's leaning more toward your regular
- 22:24Speaker 5: sharehouse vibe, in which case there's not a lot of
- 22:29Speaker 5: commitment there when you're just like in a share house.
- 22:31Speaker 5: I would just say, if, hey, if you want to
- 22:33Speaker 5: stay in this house that we both moved into so
- 22:37Speaker 5: you can live with your friends, then you're going to
- 22:39Speaker 5: have to pay the rent. But if we both kind
- 22:42Speaker 5: of ford the anemore because we're splitting up, then we'll
- 22:44Speaker 5: both have to move out. But if your friends want
- 22:47Speaker 5: him to stay there, then they can all agree on
- 22:51Speaker 5: a different rent price. Doesn't mean that I'll be paying equal,
- 22:54Speaker 5: but maybe one of them can.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Make the situation.
- 22:57Speaker 5: Maybe they like the living situation and they're willing to
- 23:00Speaker 5: pay a little bit more to keep him there and
- 23:02Speaker 5: keep the dynamic and stuff like that. But honestly, it
- 23:05Speaker 5: sounds very share housey, and I feel like he can
- 23:07Speaker 5: get out of this situation easily if he wanted to.
- 23:10Speaker 5: But seems like he's just really comfortable and he doesn't
- 23:12Speaker 5: want to pay any more rent, which I think is
- 23:14Speaker 5: a little bit unfair.
- 23:15Speaker 2: That's the case, I.
- 23:16Speaker 6: Feel like he should move out, Like I feel like
- 23:17Speaker 6: it's a case of either like you both continue to
- 23:20Speaker 6: pay the rent and you decide who lives there or
- 23:22Speaker 6: what that situation looks like, or you like, one of
- 23:25Speaker 6: you moved out and the other takes on the full
- 23:27Speaker 6: amount of the rent, or you both move out and
- 23:30Speaker 6: replace yourself. Yes, what do you think what happened when
- 23:32Speaker 6: you So you're going to be like.
- 23:34Speaker 2: No paid it all? No, not paid at all? No patriarch,
- 23:38Speaker 2: Oh my god, patriarchy.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Okay, So the way I was going to start if
- 23:49Speaker 4: you had left me was was around how you structured
- 23:53Speaker 4: I guess the rent, Like, let's say there was like
- 23:56Speaker 4: three bedrooms and one of the bedrooms was significantly more, Like,
- 24:00Speaker 4: are you just allocating rent based on the three bedrooms
- 24:04Speaker 4: that exist? In going Okay, bedroom ones worth two hundred dollars,
- 24:07Speaker 4: bedroom twos where three hundred dollars, and bedroom flours worth
- 24:10Speaker 4: five hundred because of the different facilities associated and attached
- 24:14Speaker 4: to that room.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah, So when I used to live in a sharehouse,
- 24:17Speaker 4: which some of you have probably come to string together,
- 24:21Speaker 4: was relatively toxic. I also was going through a breakup
- 24:25Speaker 4: with my partner at the time, and we were arguing
- 24:28Speaker 4: a lot, but it was about whether he should pay
- 24:32Speaker 4: for my portion if I was leaving, and about who
- 24:35Speaker 4: should take that on. So the way we split rent
- 24:37Speaker 4: was based on the bedrooms, so it wasn't based on
- 24:40Speaker 4: the occupants of the bedroom because if you want to
- 24:42Speaker 4: bring down your rent, beck you could get a roommate,
- 24:44Speaker 4: like you could just you know, share that room with whoever.
- 24:47Speaker 4: So we would split the rent via three because there
- 24:49Speaker 4: were three bedrooms, but there were four people living in
- 24:52Speaker 4: the house, so we split bills by four because we went, okay,
- 24:55Speaker 4: col that bedroom you can use however you want, is
- 24:58Speaker 4: a two hundred dollars a week bedroom or whatever it was.
- 25:01Speaker 4: But the bills are all equal because we all draw
- 25:05Speaker 4: you know, basically the same amount of power. Like unless
- 25:08Speaker 4: you're going to get real petty and talk about the
- 25:10Speaker 4: light in the bedroom. But like we all shower, we
- 25:12Speaker 4: all use the kitchen, et cetera. So that's how we
- 25:15Speaker 4: split it. And so I think it's really it's smart
- 25:18Speaker 4: before you're moving in with somebody to really consider, Okay,
- 25:22Speaker 4: well what if this relationship didn't work out? I have
- 25:25Speaker 4: said so many times, plan for the worst, expect the best.
- 25:28Speaker 4: So like, let's go, Beck, if you moved in with
- 25:30Speaker 4: a partner and that bedroom was three hundred and fifty
- 25:33Speaker 4: dollars a week and you genuinely couldn't afford it if
- 25:37Speaker 4: your partner and you broke up, like, what would be
- 25:40Speaker 4: the solution there? And I think having that conversation before
- 25:43Speaker 4: moving in is really important. It's not very sexy, but
- 25:45Speaker 4: I do think it's important and would have saved this argument.
- 25:48Speaker 4: I also look at it and go, Okay, I don't
- 25:51Speaker 4: think it's the housemate's responsibility because you're the ones that said, okay,
- 25:56Speaker 4: I'm committing to this room, and you committed to them
- 25:59Speaker 4: as much as you committed to your partner.
- 26:01Speaker 2: In my opinion, like if the.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Three of us moved in together and I brought my husband,
- 26:05Speaker 4: Steve like me saying Okay, well, I'll take the expensive
- 26:08Speaker 4: room because it's the two of us that takes the
- 26:11Speaker 4: financial pressure off you guys, and I've agreed to do that.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I can't just change my mind later because it doesn't
- 26:17Speaker 4: work out for me. Like, my personal life is not
- 26:19Speaker 4: your responsibility, and vice versa, so I don't think that's
- 26:22Speaker 4: fair to put it on the how the housemates. I
- 26:24Speaker 4: think you and your partner should work it out. In
- 26:27Speaker 4: my circumstance, I moved out because I don't know if
- 26:30Speaker 4: you've met me, but I'm the type of person that's like,
- 26:32Speaker 4: I'm leaving and then wants.
- 26:34Speaker 2: To be dramatic. Shit is the drama. I'm the drama.
- 26:36Speaker 4: So I wanted to leave, and I did, but I
- 26:39Speaker 4: continue to pay rent until we had agreed that that
- 26:43Speaker 4: would be fair. So then the conversation came up, Yes,
- 26:46Speaker 4: that person took over my portion of the rent and
- 26:49Speaker 4: that room was expensive. Who knows what happened after that,
- 26:52Speaker 4: not my circus, not my monkey's, not my business. But
- 26:56Speaker 4: we agreed, Okay, cool, Like we've decided to part ways
- 27:00Speaker 4: for a few weeks while you work out what you're doing,
- 27:02Speaker 4: but like, I'm not committing to this ongoing so you
- 27:05Speaker 4: can either continue to pay it, or they can find
- 27:06Speaker 4: a new housemate who is willing to pay it because
- 27:09Speaker 4: it was never a completely unreasonable amount. I think that's
- 27:13Speaker 4: one of the risks when you move into a house,
- 27:15Speaker 4: Like let's say there were four people in the house
- 27:17Speaker 4: and you decided to split rent equally between all four people.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I think that's where you run into a little bit
- 27:23Speaker 4: of trouble because that financial burden then is doubling somebody
- 27:28Speaker 4: else's rent. And I guess the way you're splitting it
- 27:31Speaker 4: means that people aren't.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Going to feel like it's so fair.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Whereas if you just put a number and this is
- 27:37Speaker 4: the value of each bedroom, like you can have that
- 27:40Speaker 4: bedroom and do with it what you want, Like that's
- 27:43Speaker 4: your private space. Beck if you want to get like
- 27:45Speaker 4: five housemates and put bunk beds in there, like, I mean,
- 27:48Speaker 4: people aren't probably going to consent to that, but you
- 27:50Speaker 4: could technically do that because it's your room to share.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Whereas I think that splitting it per head gets a
- 27:57Speaker 4: little bit dangerous, especially if somebody leaves, because and it
- 28:00Speaker 4: really needs to be renegotiated, and it's about that conversation, right, like,
- 28:03Speaker 4: oh well, what if Jess leaves, then there's three of us.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Do we need to split it equally?
- 28:07Speaker 4: Like, it's just so much easier to put a price
- 28:10Speaker 4: on her bedroom and be like, okay, cool, that bedroom's
- 28:13Speaker 4: worth X. And then it's the responsibility of the people
- 28:16Speaker 4: in it to work their own stuff out.
- 28:18Speaker 2: It's not housemates' responsibility. Yeah, I agree, agreed. Jessica thought
- 28:21Speaker 2: we were all going to have a fight. I think
- 28:28Speaker 2: that once mics turned off, she's going to come for it.
- 28:32Speaker 2: She's savage.
- 28:33Speaker 4: But we did ask our community about it, so we said,
- 28:36Speaker 4: have you experienced a housemate unexpectedly moving out? Forty eight
- 28:39Speaker 4: percent of you said, yep, life happens. Life happens If yes,
- 28:43Speaker 4: who paid their rent?
- 28:44Speaker 2: Like this?
- 28:45Speaker 4: I feel like it's hard because it's not just like,
- 28:47Speaker 4: oh I did a partner break up with you. It's
- 28:49Speaker 4: like if your housemate moved out, who paid the rent?
- 28:51Speaker 4: So sixty one percent of you said they paid the
- 28:53Speaker 4: rent until we found someone new, which.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I think is fair.
- 28:56Speaker 4: And then thirty nine percent of you said I paid
- 28:59Speaker 4: the rent until we found someone new.
- 29:01Speaker 6: Oh. I just don't think anyone should be responsible for
- 29:04Speaker 6: somebody else's choices financially.
- 29:06Speaker 4: No, neither, it's funny because I used to have a
- 29:08Speaker 4: housemate way back when, same toxic house.
- 29:11Speaker 2: You're not going to be surprised to hear this.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Who would be like, Oh, I shouldn't have to pay
- 29:15Speaker 4: rent over Christmas because I actually go back to my parents' house. Yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 4: when breaks off, I go back. And we were like no, like,
- 29:25Speaker 4: I don't care if you're off, you need for three
- 29:26Speaker 4: months and living at your parents' house that's technically still
- 29:28Speaker 4: your bedroom. And she'd be like, well, I'll sublease it
- 29:30Speaker 4: and we were like yeah, cool, like one our lease
- 29:33Speaker 4: agreement says it's no subletting, but to none of us
- 29:36Speaker 4: would be comfortable with a random living here for three months,
- 29:39Speaker 4: like we don't want to do this.
- 29:40Speaker 2: And then she thought we were the.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Devils, like because she was like, I am actively choosing
- 29:46Speaker 4: to go and live somewhere else and now it's your burden, Jess. Oh,
- 29:50Speaker 4: it's just the same housemate that stole my underwear.
- 29:52Speaker 2: And also throughout all the meat must sound so.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Do you know what I'm going to do a little
- 29:58Speaker 4: stalky stalk later and see that person's out right now.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Love to know. Let's do that together, Yes, let's do
- 30:03Speaker 2: that all right?
- 30:04Speaker 4: So next we asked if you were in this situation,
- 30:07Speaker 4: who would you expect to pay the rent? Sixty two
- 30:10Speaker 4: percent of you said the partner who is still living
- 30:12Speaker 4: at the house. Fifteen percent of you said the partner
- 30:15Speaker 4: who is moving out of the house.
- 30:17Speaker 2: So that's quite low. I thought that was five.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Yeah, and twenty three percent of you said the partner
- 30:22Speaker 4: living there and the housemates should cover it. Yes, I
- 30:26Speaker 4: don't think the housemates should cover it at all.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I was I saying my real life, like, I
- 30:30Speaker 6: don't really care how the partners work it out, Like,
- 30:32Speaker 6: I think that's between you and your relationship. Do I know,
- 30:34Speaker 6: I can your financial situation. The line in the sand
- 30:36Speaker 6: for me is around the housemates. It's not their problem.
- 30:39Speaker 4: No, no, And we had a few good messages that
- 30:41Speaker 4: shed a little bit of insight. So we had one
- 30:43Speaker 4: that said, hello, I'm a property manager, so I might
- 30:45Speaker 4: be able to help here. If there isn't anything in writing,
- 30:48Speaker 4: she isn't responsible. And then in brackets, always have a
- 30:50Speaker 4: lease even when you sublet, so it comes down to
- 30:53Speaker 4: what she wants to do morally, Yeah, which I think
- 30:56Speaker 4: is you know fair. Someone else said if the lease
- 31:00Speaker 4: a periodic lease month to month, so I think they
- 31:02Speaker 4: went down the same thought process as missage.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Really actually that's a big factor.
- 31:06Speaker 4: And on that lease, they need to give twenty eight
- 31:08Speaker 4: days notice and make sure rent is paid up until
- 31:10Speaker 4: that date, or they can leave before the twenty eight days,
- 31:13Speaker 4: but still need to make sure that they've paid their
- 31:15Speaker 4: rent up until that date. If it's a fixed term lease,
- 31:18Speaker 4: it's more complicated and you really should be speaking to
- 31:21Speaker 4: your real estate agent or your landlord from personal experience.
- 31:24Speaker 4: If they've done the right things, you either split the
- 31:27Speaker 4: amount between the remaining housemates or you get someone else
- 31:30Speaker 4: in it to cover that portion. Someone else said, did
- 31:34Speaker 4: they cheat though, Yeah, if it's a shipbreaker up, Yeah, yeah,
- 31:38Speaker 4: I mean if you want to play that game, I
- 31:40Speaker 4: will make it your financial burden.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Mark, Sorry, you chose that life.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, if you want to do that, that's now
- 31:47Speaker 4: your responsibility, and I back anyone who makes that decision.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Someone else said, if they both got the place together,
- 31:54Speaker 4: then it's both their responsibility to pay and find a
- 31:57Speaker 4: solution to someone taking over that room.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Unless the ex wants to stay in that room, then
- 32:02Speaker 2: he should.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Pay for the whole thing because she's moving out and
- 32:05Speaker 4: that's the solution only my opinion, though, I think that's
- 32:09Speaker 4: really really quite smart. A few other comments just said
- 32:12Speaker 4: split between the partners. Maybe other people said.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Did they cheat? Did you cheat? What happened?
- 32:17Speaker 4: I feel like a lot of people want to know
- 32:19Speaker 4: the semantics of this breakup, because, after all, we are
- 32:22Speaker 4: the She's on the Money community, and we do encourage
- 32:24Speaker 4: perfect questions, but we will not be asking our DM
- 32:28Speaker 4: this week how that happened, because she's on the relationship
- 32:31Speaker 4: where she's on the money. But I think summary of
- 32:33Speaker 4: that is it's between the two of you, it's not
- 32:35Speaker 4: actually between the housemates.
- 32:36Speaker 2: And from what it sounds like, your.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Partner wants to stay in that house, which means he
- 32:42Speaker 4: wants to take over that lease.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I would agree, yeah.
- 32:45Speaker 4: If he wants to do that, and then he can
- 32:48Speaker 4: work that out. However he wishes to work it out,
- 32:50Speaker 4: and if he does it with his housemates, like, that's
- 32:51Speaker 4: not your circus, not your monkeys.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Interesting, no fight to be had. Wow, damn, I really
- 32:56Speaker 2: thought this was going to get spicy, and I was
- 32:58Speaker 2: kind of excited. Tso kind to each other.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll have a fight later, all right, let's go.
- 33:04Speaker 4: I want to get fish pole for lunch and I
- 33:06Speaker 4: hope you guys have the best weekend.
- 33:08Speaker 2: We will see you for money Darries on Monday.
- 33:10Speaker 6: See you later, Bye bye.
