- 0:00Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:44Hi, it's Adam here. And then this hypnosis session,
- 0:48you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session about
- 0:52reducing smoking and particularly smoking cessation.
- 0:56And some people are just habitual smokers, but there are
- 1:01people that tend to smoke either more or only smoke.
- 1:05When they become. Emotionally triggered and I was
- 1:09working with a client and that was their situation.
- 1:12So although I've. Published lots of hypnosis
- 1:13session sessions about either quitting smoking, becoming a
- 1:17non-smoker. This was more dealing with the
- 1:20emotional triggering side of smoking and if that feels like
- 1:26you and you know that you smoke more when you're stressed or
- 1:28bored or. Angry.
- 1:30Or frustrated, then I think you'll get some value from this
- 1:33particular session. Please bear in mind though, that
- 1:37it was created for an individual and therefore the suggestions
- 1:41that were entirely appropriate and suitable for the client that
- 1:45I was working with wouldn't necessarily be perfect and
- 1:49suitable and appropriate for you and.
- 1:52On that. Basis Lots of people learn about
- 1:55me by hearing a session I recorded for someone.
- 1:58Else and then. Thinking, well that's OK, but
- 2:01it's not quite right. And then they go on to work with
- 2:04me individually. So I create a hypnosis session
- 2:07and we do the hypnosis live. And if that sounds like
- 2:11something that it could be of interest to you, look in the
- 2:13description and you'll see a link to book a free consultation
- 2:17call to explore working with me. For now though, find a quiet,
- 2:21comfortable place, ideally where you're not going to be
- 2:23interrupted or disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:01Take a deep breath in and on the outward breath that's here,
- 4:06close your eyes breathing in a feeling of calm and relaxation
- 4:14and as you exhale, just feeling a sense of release of any
- 4:22tensions, stress and worries leaving your body in that
- 4:28outward breath. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 4:36relaxed you become, and the more relaxed you become, the deeper
- 4:44you breathe. Just allow yourself to elongate
- 4:49the outward breath, and the longer you breathe out, the more
- 4:57you create a vacuum in your diaphragm so that the next
- 5:03inward breath becomes deeper than the last breathing in a
- 5:10feeling of resourceful relaxation and exhaling that
- 5:16tension. Just imagine, with each breath
- 5:24you are activating that parasympathetic nervous system,
- 5:30the part that likes to be calm, relaxed and connected.
- 5:39And the more you activate, it's a very natural process, the more
- 5:45your body relaxes and the more your imagination awakens.
- 5:53And I want you to use the power of your imagination to imagine
- 6:01walking, walking out on Hampstead Heath just before
- 6:12sunrise. Perhaps you can even imagine the
- 6:19specific route. Just imagine walking in that
- 6:27exact same direction, leaving your home, walking in that
- 6:34direction. And maybe you could imagine and
- 6:39hear the sounds of the paws of dogs walking or running with
- 6:45you. I want you to imagine it's still
- 6:51dark, but you're finding your way to a place on the heath with
- 6:58the perfect view of sunrise. I want you to imagine just
- 7:06seeing, seeing the colours in the sky.
- 7:14Imagine it's a clear day, no clouds.
- 7:20See those hues? Those shades start to light up
- 7:26the sky. Some people consider different
- 7:32parts of their life as different chapters, but you could imagine
- 7:39a sunrise is evidence that every day is a brand new page.
- 7:49That you could look back and extract the wisdom of the past
- 7:54without needing the emotions of the past to affect the present
- 7:59day. It's almost like every new day
- 8:08wipes the slate clean. You retain the knowledge, the
- 8:13wisdom, the experience, but you don't need to hold on to any
- 8:19emotions that sabotage or interfere with the quality of
- 8:27your life. Hold on to the good stuff and
- 8:34release that which does not serve you.
- 8:40That's it. I don't want you to imagine
- 8:46because it is just your imagination there on the heath,
- 8:52the most comfortable chair that's ever existed and ever
- 8:56will exist, plumped there on the heath.
- 9:00And I want you to imagine how good it would feel to sit in the
- 9:06most relaxing chair ever while looking out the continuation of
- 9:14that sunrise, hearing the sounds of playful dogs enjoying their
- 9:21time. And notice with every breath it
- 9:25takes you deeper and deeper. Relaxed.
- 9:36I'm going to countdown from 5:00 to 1:00 with each descending
- 9:39number. Give yourself permission to sink
- 9:43into a state that some people would call hypnosis, some people
- 9:49would call deep meditation, and some people would call a trance.
- 9:565 Letting yourself go now. 4 Nothing to do, just allow.
- 10:05Allow yourself to go to that place.
- 10:09Place where powerful changes can happen easier. 3A Place where
- 10:16neural networks that exist can be reactivated or perhaps mapped
- 10:24across the new situations or environments that that would be
- 10:30useful. 2 Just feeling your arms and legs feeling limp, loose and
- 10:37heavy. Breathing gets deeper and
- 10:40deeper. And then one just imagine
- 10:44drifting off into a dreamlike sleep there on that chair, on
- 10:47that heath, whilst sunrise start to shift into daytime.
- 10:59I want you to get a sense that there is an ability within you
- 11:05to effortlessly deal with tantrums.
- 11:10I want you to imagine thinking back back in time, where you're
- 11:16seeing yourself deal with one of your children, perhaps five
- 11:22years old, throwing a tantrum. Be the observer, not the
- 11:27participant, and see how that younger version of you had the
- 11:35perfect strategy to deal with the tantrum.
- 11:42I'll put petrol on the fire, but to let the fire die out.
- 11:49See that version of you handling that tantrum in a way that
- 11:57allowed that five year old child to express their frustrations,
- 12:07to communicate their need for attention, but realising that
- 12:14you didn't have to play their game just because they're
- 12:18playing it as the observer? You can see that back then you
- 12:28didn't take the bait, but also you didn't need to soothe
- 12:34yourself afterwards. You could imagine that version
- 12:40of you surrounded by an unconscious force field.
- 12:47Their energy and their intention never affected yours.
- 12:54You were able to maintain your composure even though they
- 13:01wanted you to raise your voice. They wanted you to react and
- 13:09instead you responded. And you responded by giving a
- 13:15meaning to what was happening. The unconscious meaning is that
- 13:21this is what a 5 year old does. But you don't have to respond in
- 13:30the way that they wanted you to. You had agency and options and
- 13:35choices, and by playing the game the way you want it to, it was a
- 13:44disincentive for them to throw those tantrums, partly because
- 13:51you couldn't be provoked. You didn't take the bait.
- 13:57You played your game, not theirs, and you can go backwards
- 14:03and forwards in time and see this wasn't just something that
- 14:08needed willpower. In fact it was the opposite.
- 14:13Your automatic way of handling A tantrum was to maintain your
- 14:18composure. Step into that version of you.
- 14:26But this time I want you to see not a five year old child, but a
- 14:32grown woman acting like a 5 year old child.
- 14:40Imagine them doing the kind of things then is an adult
- 14:44equivalent of throwing attention.
- 14:49See them attempting to provoke. See them encouraging you to take
- 14:57the bait, to push your buttons. But feel a sense of composure in
- 15:08a peace. You're still protected by that
- 15:11force field. Their game does not affect your
- 15:15game. In fact, the harder they try to
- 15:22rile you, provoke you, trigger you, the more composed you
- 15:28become. Doesn't even have to be in
- 15:32person. You could imagine a message, a
- 15:37voicemail, an e-mail, not even from them, but from someone
- 15:43they're working with, a relative, a lawyer, some other
- 15:53entity. But it's still the same thing.
- 15:59A 5 year old trapped in the body of a fully grown woman and you
- 16:06feel the same way you felt when dealing with your children.
- 16:13You feel a wonderful sense of you're in control.
- 16:22Your breathing doesn't change, your heart rate doesn't
- 16:26increase. You feel protected in that place
- 16:31of peace. I need to now go back to a
- 16:37different point in your past. I want you to see see yourself
- 16:45in a work situation where someone is trying to get under
- 16:51your skin, someone is trying to rattle you, trying to get you to
- 16:58take the bait, trying to provoke you, and see that version of you
- 17:05immune to it. You're immune to the games
- 17:10because you know what they're doing and you know that it's
- 17:14counterproductive to play their game when your game works so
- 17:19well. In fact, the more they try, the
- 17:25more composed you become. You are immune to it, protected.
- 17:33Perhaps you can see yourself with that invisible force field
- 17:39that whatever they try and do doesn't matter because you have
- 17:44a way of dealing with things like this.
- 17:49And then step into that version of you feel, how resourceful you
- 17:55feel when someone is trying to get a reaction, trying to
- 17:59trigger you. There is a sense of knowingness
- 18:03then it just doesn't work with you, doesn't affect your
- 18:10breathing, doesn't affect your emotions.
- 18:17You are able to remain in that incredibly resourceful state
- 18:23irrespective of what anyone else is trying to do.
- 18:31Really feel that powerful, resourceful energy and notice.
- 18:41Notice that when you feel this way, what other people do
- 18:45doesn't matter. And then imagine still feeling
- 18:51that way, but seeing the person and the situation change.
- 18:56Just imagine you're now in your your own home.
- 19:02You know there's someone else in that same house with you, but
- 19:06feel that same way of feeling that it's impossible for you to
- 19:13be riled. You feel protected.
- 19:17You feel that stoic sensation, that hybrid of acceptance and
- 19:27control, a feeling that you can weather any storm.
- 19:32I want you to get a sense that you're in your own home and
- 19:44recreate something from the past that did trigger you, but now
- 19:49place it in your future. But imagine feeling this way,
- 19:53this resourceful way, Immune protected.
- 20:00And the harder they try to roll you, the more resourceful you
- 20:05feel. And the more resourceful you
- 20:08feel, the more you're reminded you already know how to deal
- 20:16with situations like this. I want you to get a sense.
- 20:21Then you are activating the very neural networks that are useful,
- 20:29but now shifting the context to an area of your life that would
- 20:35be most beneficial. From these strategies, these
- 20:40beliefs, these evaluations and these emotions, I want you to
- 20:46feel that the next year or two becomes a boot camp training at
- 20:55altitude. This could be the perfect time
- 21:02to give you new levels of resilience.
- 21:05I want you to get a sense then. A monk meditating in a tranquil
- 21:15monastery is already in a peaceful place, but someone that
- 21:24can remain their composure in a place where they are being
- 21:29insulted, tricked, manipulated, attacked, that is a truly Zen
- 21:40state. I want you to get a sense that
- 21:44there is an opportunity here to treat this temporary situation
- 21:52as a way to level up, to unleash and unlock new levels of
- 21:59emotional resilience, new levels of self-control.
- 22:08I want you to get a sense then this is temporary.
- 22:15But when this temporary period ends, what if you have a whole
- 22:21new level of emotional maturity, of new perspectives that you
- 22:33become the calm in any storm? And the more you think of
- 22:44tantrum throwing children in adults bodies, the easier it is
- 22:49to see the funny side of what's happening.
- 22:54Maybe you can imagine them with pigtails and ribbons in their
- 22:59hair, that cross face that only children can have when they're
- 23:04throwing a tantrum, the feet stomping.
- 23:10You've seen it all before. And when you look at it through
- 23:15that lens, the inner dialogue changes from how could they do
- 23:23this to me to something like, of course they would do that.
- 23:30That's what they do. And when you frame it that way,
- 23:37you activate all of the resources necessary to make you
- 23:42feel that not only can you handle this, you can handle this
- 23:48elegantly, gracefully, with a stoic resilience that means that
- 23:56your temperament is bulletproof, and the more you think about
- 24:05that, the truer it becomes. And what if occasionally
- 24:13resulting to cigarettes is not the problem, but the litmus test
- 24:24Canary in the coal mine that lets you know how well you are
- 24:29managing these emotional triggers?
- 24:34That as you harness the resources that already exist
- 24:37within you, you simply don't need these coping strategies.
- 24:43Because it never got under your skin to begin with.
- 24:48Your unconscious is willing to look at smoking as something
- 24:53else to let you know if you're in the right lane, in the right
- 25:02direction. That's it.
- 25:05I want you to get a sense then there is an opportunity here to
- 25:13elevate and enhance skills that are already strong.
- 25:18And in those moments that you do feel triggered, I want you to
- 25:27consider smoking is just one thing on a menu of possibilities
- 25:33and there are so many other appetizing things on that menu
- 25:37that would work even better. And maybe that is exercise, or a
- 25:47swim, or a cold plunge, or deep breathing, or even laughter, or
- 26:00going for a walk or a drive. There are so many other things
- 26:05on the menu that work better and enhance your life.
- 26:14I want you to consider that if you were to change something
- 26:21that is destructive for something constructive, that it
- 26:28almost becomes advantageous, whatever happens, that if they
- 26:38can't rile you, then you're not triggered.
- 26:42But if you are triggered, you're triggered to do something that
- 26:45enhances your life, then whatever happens, you're moving
- 26:50forward, evolving in exactly the way that you would like.
- 26:59Before we leave this place, let's go back to one final
- 27:03memory. I want you to go back to a
- 27:07moment where you're seeing yourself being hypnotized to be
- 27:14a non-smoker. Just imagine you're an invisible
- 27:19entity in the room. When it happens, see how you
- 27:25were sitting, how you were breathing, and then allow
- 27:31yourself to step back into that version of you where all the
- 27:39suggestions that you heard back then, you're hearing now.
- 27:44That you are reawakening the identity of a non-smoker that
- 27:51has no desire to smoke. When you feel that you've
- 28:00reawakened that identity, that that is simply who you are now,
- 28:08let me know by nodding your head.
- 28:10That's it. I want you to go forwards in
- 28:14time now to the kind of situation that in the past would
- 28:19have provoked you to smoke and notice it doesn't work now.
- 28:26And whether there it is an emotional trigger or a social
- 28:31trigger feel being in that exact situation with no desire at all
- 28:39to smoke. You now get the dopamine from
- 28:48the good feeling of being a non-smoker, then the dopamine of
- 28:54that temporary nicotine hit. Every time you make the
- 29:02evaluation that you are free of that old identity, it feels good
- 29:09because you are in control of your life and the direction that
- 29:14you're taking it. As you leave that chair, find
- 29:21yourself back on a chair there on Hampstead Heath, feeling that
- 29:29you've been on a journey in your imagination.
- 29:33A journey of thoughts within thoughts, dreams within dreams,
- 29:38and ideas within ideas. But you have awakened the very
- 29:45neural pathways and networks to harness powerful ways of making
- 29:53evaluations and harnessing useful, resourceful emotions to
- 30:00give you more choices as to how to respond rather than react.
- 30:10And when all those changes feel like they've integrated with you
- 30:13in the present and the here and the now.
- 30:15Let me know by nodding your head.
- 30:17Do you imagine leaving that chair, walking back with your
- 30:25dogs, but not back to your home, back to your physical body, now
- 30:31back to the here and the now? And then take a deep breath in
- 30:36through your nose and out through your nose.
- 30:41Wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 30:42Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 30:46from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 30:49Starting to count. 123 waking up 456 more alert. 7-8.
- 30:56Open your eyes. Open your eyes. 910 wide awake,
- 30:59wide awake, wide awake. Thank you for listening to The
