- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello, and welcome to the Aligned Actor Podcast.
- 0:03I'm Amy Schloerb,
- 0:04your friendly fellow actor and mindfulness and mindset coach.
- 0:07And this is the podcast where I share practical mindfulness
- 0:10tools and mindset
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: shifts to help us all thrive in our full actor lives.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Because actor life is a rollercoaster, friends.
- 0:19It is full of ups and downs,
- 0:20twists and turns,
- 0:21sometimes full on loop-de-loops.
- 0:23And the only way that we will survive in this entertainment
- 0:26industry long-term
- 0:28is if we are taking care of ourselves and finding effective
- 0:31ways to handle all of
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: the stress that the entertainment industry throws our way.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: It's just a fact.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: In this episode,
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: we are going to practice what we learned in the previous episode,
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: paying attention to the present moment with kind curiosity,
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: which is the definition of mindfulness.
- 0:51So just listen and follow along as I help you pay attention to
- 0:56your current present
- 0:58moment And this might be the one practice where you can
- 1:04actually do this while
- 1:05you're doing something else Maybe even driving a car because
- 1:11I'm just asking you to
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: tune into what you're actually doing You don't have to close your eyes
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: In fact, if you're driving a car, please don't close your eyes.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Please, please, please don't close your eyes.
- 1:26But if you want to close your eyes and it's safe for you to do
- 1:30so,
- 1:31you can.
- 1:32But you certainly don't have to because practicing mindfulness
- 1:35doesn't have to mean
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: a formal,
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: seated,
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: closed-eye meditation.
- 1:41Because really we're just intentionally noticing ourselves and
- 1:46our current circumstances.
- 1:49So you can even think of this kind of like doing a little
- 1:51character study on
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: yourself and your current present moment.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: So just see what you notice.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So what, if anything, do you see, hear, feel, smell, or taste?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Just tune in with your senses for a second.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Do you notice any sensations in your body, like internally?
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Can you notice the sensation of your breath, your inhales and exhales?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Do you notice any thoughts in your mind?
- 3:17Again,
- 3:17just notice whatever you notice kindly,
- 3:24curiously,
- 3:26non-judgmentally.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: For me, I see my computer.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: I see my phone.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: I can hear my voice talking.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I can hear an airplane going overhead.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I feel the floor under my feet, and I can feel my clothes on my body.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I don't smell any particular smells.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Nothing's standing out.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: I can taste
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Some water,
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: which sounds weird,
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: but I had a sip of water before I started recording this,
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: so I can kind of taste that feeling in my mouth.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I can feel the aliveness of my body.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I can feel actually my knees.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: I was locking them, and I just noticed that.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to move those around a little bit.
- 4:37And I feel kind of a relaxed energy in my body as I record this
- 4:41episode,
- 4:43which is nice.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: I hear that plane again.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Probably a different plane.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: As I breathe, I can feel cool air coming into my body as I inhale.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: And warmer air going out as I exhale.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And I notice thoughts related to this recording.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: The ideas I'm relating to you.
- 5:19I also notice thoughts about my mouth starting to feel a little
- 5:25dry and wanting some more water.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Just things I'm noticing.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: And now that you've experienced my example,
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Take a moment again to tune into your own present moment.
- 5:52What do you kindly and curiously notice about your present
- 6:00moment right now?
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: That's mindfulness.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: You paid attention to your present moment with kind curiosity.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Great job!
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: You can practice paying attention to the present moment,
- 6:31intentionally noticing yourself and your current circumstances
- 6:34with kind curiosity,
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: anytime,
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: anywhere.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Just remain safe while you're doing it.
- 6:42Obviously,
- 6:42if you are driving a car or operating a forklift or something,
- 6:46be safe.
- 6:48You should probably be present when you're driving a car and
- 6:50you should probably be
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: present when you're driving a forklift as well.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So it might be a good time to really focus in on the present moment.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: As a fun challenge,
- 7:01set a random alarm on your phone and maybe label it notice
- 7:06right now or take a
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: mindful moment.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: And take yourself through this exercise again.
- 7:12So just pause and notice what you're doing and what's happening
- 7:16around you.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: And you don't have to use all the same questions that I used.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: You don't even have to remember all of that.
- 7:23Just pause and pay attention to your present moment,
- 7:28kindly and curiously.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for joining me.
