- Rob (AI host): If your team's real deal conversation happens in a Slack channel, your HubSpot record is probably missing the best part. Dana (AI host): In July, our research reported a fix: an AI summary of that Slack channel, right on the record. Rob (AI host): Today: what the summary needs, how to link Slack to your records, why it matters, and a short Monday plan. Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies. Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI. Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you. Rob (AI host): Quick reminder up front: Dana and I are AI hosts. Rob (AI host): We don't sit in Slack channels, and we haven't clicked through this ourselves. Dana (AI host): I'm Dana, and today I'm playing an account manager whose client Slack channel is a lot busier than the deal record. Rob (AI host): Here's the change in one sentence. Rob (AI host): Our research describes the Slack card on a HubSpot record showing an AI summary, written by Breeze, of the linked channel's recent conversation, where the old static details used to be. Dana (AI host): Linked channel. So nothing happens until a channel is tied to the record? Rob (AI host): Right. The summary depends on that link, and linking is something HubSpot does document. Rob (AI host): On a company or deal record, find the Slack card in the right sidebar and click Associate Slack channel. Dana (AI host): Can I pick a channel we already use? Rob (AI host): Yes. You can choose an existing channel or create a new one from that dialog. Rob (AI host): Just know you can only link public channels, or private ones where the HubSpot app is a member. Dana (AI host): Good to know, because the client channel I work in is private. Can this happen automatically? Rob (AI host): With a Professional or Enterprise subscription, a workflow can create a Slack channel and link it to a company or deal. Rob (AI host): The Slack card then shows that a workflow created it. Dana (AI host): And once it's linked, what flows between the two? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page says new calls, notes, emails, tasks, or meetings logged on that company or deal trigger a notification in the channel. Rob (AI host): You choose which activity types. Dana (AI host): So HubSpot talks to Slack. The summary is meant to bring Slack back to HubSpot. Dana (AI host): Why does that matter? Rob (AI host): Why it matters: our research points out that a manager reviewing a deal, or a service lead picking up a ticket, otherwise has to switch tools and scroll threads to piece together what happened. Rob (AI host): That quietly erodes trust in the CRM. Dana (AI host): That's my morning before every client call, honestly. Three tabs and a lot of scrolling. Dana (AI host): Is there a way to get Slack context into the record that HubSpot itself documents today? Rob (AI host): Yes. HubSpot's Breeze Assistant works inside Slack. Rob (AI host): You mention it in a thread and ask it to summarize the thread and log it as a note on a deal. Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page uses almost exactly that example. Dana (AI host): What do I need before that works? Rob (AI host): Three things, per HubSpot. Rob (AI host): The Slack app connected to your HubSpot account, you logged in to Slack with your HubSpot user, and Breeze Assistant turned on in your account. Dana (AI host): Does it watch the channel for me? Rob (AI host): No. In channels and threads, you have to mention it every time. Rob (AI host): HubSpot says it does not automatically monitor conversations. Rob (AI host): In a direct message from the HubSpot app's Messages tab, you can skip the mention. Dana (AI host): And who can use all of this? Rob (AI host): HubSpot lists both the Slack notification features and Breeze Assistant inside Slack on all products and plans. Rob (AI host): The workflow route is the one that needs Professional or Enterprise. Dana (AI host): One more practical thing. What happens to the link when two records get merged? Rob (AI host): The Slack channel association comes from the primary record. Rob (AI host): So either link the channel to the primary first, or pick the record that has the channel as the primary when you merge. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Linking Slack to HubSpot only helps if your team actually lives in the CRM, and that comes down to how they were onboarded. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): In HubSpot Intensive Training, I come onsite for one to two days. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): We set up your portal essentials, train every role hands-on on your real portal, and build your core workflows live. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): You leave with a go-live plan and a team that trusts HubSpot. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Look for HubSpot Intensive Training under workshops at Sidekick Strategies dot com. Dana (AI host): Okay, Rob. What couldn't we confirm? Rob (AI host): The headline itself. Rob (AI host): HubSpot's Slack notifications help page covers the Slack card and channel links, but it doesn't mention an AI summary on that card. Rob (AI host): Neither do HubSpot's July or August product update posts. Rob (AI host): Our write-up also says it rolled out on the twenty-second of July as a beta, needs no setup, and reaches every hub and tier. Rob (AI host): We can't confirm any of that on a HubSpot page. Dana (AI host): And the tip about the old card? Rob (AI host): Our research suggests that if you pinned a legacy Slack card in a custom record view, you remove it and add it back to get the new one. Rob (AI host): That's unconfirmed too, but it's harmless to try. Dana (AI host): So the summary on the card is the part to verify, and the Breeze thread summary is the part you can count on today. Rob (AI host): That's the split, yes. Dana (AI host): Got it. As the account manager I'm playing, here's my Monday. Dana (AI host): Step one: open your three busiest deals or companies and check the Slack card. Dana (AI host): Is a channel linked? Is there a summary? Write down what you see. Rob (AI host): Step two: link the channels that are missing. Rob (AI host): For private ones, add the HubSpot app to the channel first. Dana (AI host): Step three: pick the activity types that actually help the channel, so it doesn't turn into noise. Rob (AI host): Step four: before your next handoff, mention Breeze in the client thread, ask it to summarize the thread and log it as a note on the deal. Dana (AI host): Step five: tell whoever merges records to keep the record with the Slack channel as the primary. Rob (AI host): Step six: for channels a workflow created, check that the Slack card says so, so everyone knows which channels are automated. Dana (AI host): And if you do see a summary on the card, compare it with the thread before you trust it. Dana (AI host): The takeaway: link the channel first, then let summaries bring Slack back to the record.
