- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in today's episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:47created for a client that would, I quite often feel triggered.
- 0:51And what was really fascinating about this particular client is
- 0:55that they use the word that the people around them were always
- 0:59provoking them, that they were making them feel a certain way.
- 1:04And when I delved into that, they did acknowledge that.
- 1:08They probably weren't. Doing it intentionally.
- 1:11And my definition of provocation is that intent is required that
- 1:16someone can't unintendingly or unintentionally provoke you.
- 1:22It requires intention to be provocative to be the act of
- 1:26provoking. So what they acknowledged is
- 1:29that it's probably that they have triggers and people are
- 1:33accidentally triggering them and they're interpreting,
- 1:36interpreting that as provocation.
- 1:38Now, if someone is actually provoking you to feel a certain
- 1:41way, and some people do do that, you know, they know your buttons
- 1:44to push. They are absolutely trying to
- 1:46make you feel a certain way, that it's quite easy to feel
- 1:51annoyed by that, frustrated by that, disrespected by that.
- 1:56But if people are doing it accidentally, then it becomes
- 1:58more about you than it does about them.
- 2:01And an analogy, A metaphor popped into my head while I was
- 2:05working with this client. And it's this idea of landmines.
- 2:08If you think of landmines, these horrible military tools that,
- 2:13you know, kind of put in the earth.
- 2:15And if someone treads on them, they blow up and could often
- 2:19kill or maim whoever lands on them.
- 2:21The reason they're such cruel military weapons is because they
- 2:27don't know who is going to land on them.
- 2:29It could be the enemy. It could be someone entirely
- 2:31innocent. There is a a gap of time between
- 2:35deploying the landmine and when it goes off, if it ever goes
- 2:38off. And this client clearly had lots
- 2:42of emotional triggers created in childhood.
- 2:45And it seemed like certain people looking at them, touching
- 2:49them, saying something in a certain way would make them feel
- 2:53angry or annoyed or, you know, kind of defiant.
- 2:57And all of these things would have been completely relevant
- 3:00for the actual time that these triggers were created.
- 3:04But decades have passed and they're still being triggered by
- 3:07these same things. So there's a metaphor here about
- 3:10deactivating the emotional land mines.
- 3:14And it works as a metaphor because that's exactly how it
- 3:18was being experienced with the client that I was working with.
- 3:23And it's highly likely that there's a few land mines that
- 3:25you have that people will give you a look or say something in a
- 3:30certain way and it has nothing about them and everything about
- 3:33something that happened in your past.
- 3:35And that triggers an emotion that could have been very useful
- 3:39or appropriate in the original time, but not so appropriate
- 3:43now, if that makes sense. This is a, a way of
- 3:47metaphorically deactivating them.
- 3:49Or if they do go off, and sometimes they will, figuring
- 3:53out what you would have done or could have done differently if
- 3:57the exact same thing would have happened by the other person,
- 4:01but you did something different. And then that becomes a learning
- 4:05tool. To then.
- 4:06Deactivate that emotional landmine so it doesn't go off at
- 4:08any point in the future. So I think this is very powerful
- 4:12for anyone that gets regularly triggered or infrequently
- 4:17triggered, but when you do it kind of causes problems.
- 4:19Then I think you'll benefit from this.
- 4:21It was created for an individual.
- 4:22Some of the references aren't going to make sense for you, but
- 4:25if you do like the idea of. A customized, bespoke.
- 4:28Session, then check out the link in the show notes or check out
- 4:31my website adamcox.co.uk. Book a free consultation call on
- 4:35Zoom. We'll have a chat and maybe we
- 4:37end up working together, you know, over Zoom or even in face
- 4:40to face. So rather than just hearing my
- 4:42stuff on a podcast, you're actually working with me direct,
- 4:45and that will give you a different experience than what
- 4:47you're hearing on the podcast. For now though, find a quiet,
- 4:51comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:53Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:45you breathe in, breathe in a feeling of quiet, calm and
- 5:50confidence. And as you exhale, just allow
- 5:56your eyelids to close and as they close, allow yourself to
- 6:03position your body in a way that you can feel comfortable and
- 6:08access the deepest levels of relaxation.
- 6:18Breathing in and resourceful relaxation.
- 6:22And as you exhale, allow yourself to release any stored
- 6:32up feelings of frustration, any tension.
- 6:43I want you to get a sense then sometimes it's natural for
- 6:52things to accumulate. I want you to get a sense that
- 6:57in nature, that's what happens. Small things build on small
- 7:05things, and eventually those small things become big things.
- 7:11Sometimes even islands are created through a process of
- 7:18gradual accumulation, and that's good.
- 7:25If what you're. Accumulating is wisdom and
- 7:29gratitude. Some people say it's good to
- 7:35count your blessings, but some people count their grudges.
- 7:44And where focus goes, energy flows.
- 7:49I want you to allow yourself the possibility of letting go of all
- 7:53of that past baggage. Then it's just holding you back.
- 7:59Holding you back from a wonderful future.
- 8:08And what if part of that wonderful future is to
- 8:13deactivate certain triggers, then put you in a state which
- 8:22you would never voluntarily choose to feel, but have been
- 8:26feeling anyway? I want you to imagine yourself
- 8:33in a peaceful place, maybe a garden, a Meadow or a beach.
- 8:40Imagine. Breathing in and breathing out.
- 8:42Feeling deeper and deeper, relaxed breathing in relaxation.
- 8:50Exhaling tension. And as your body.
- 8:54Begins to relax. And as your breath becomes
- 8:58slower and deeper, allow yourself to settle into the
- 9:05safety of this moment. A moment when nothing is
- 9:11expected of you. Nothing to prove, just a quiet
- 9:18return to the truth that has always lived beneath the
- 9:24surface. And there's a part of you that
- 9:33knows what it's like to feel on edge, to feel a sudden surge or
- 9:41explosion of emotion. And someone says or does
- 9:46something, and it's like something ancient gets awakened
- 9:52inside you. Like stepping on a landmine that
- 9:56was buried long ago. But what if you didn't bury it
- 10:02there? Someone else did?
- 10:09A moment of abuse, shame, rejection.
- 10:19Maybe it was pain passed down from one generation to another
- 10:26and you don't know when things were passed down from the next
- 10:33generation up. Doesn't take something big
- 10:40sometimes to create. This trigger could have been a
- 10:45moment where you were made to feel small, unseen, or unworthy.
- 10:53And these moments, these land mines, they weren't your fault.
- 11:03But now I want you to imagine something powerful is happening.
- 11:15You're becoming the one with the tools, the training, and the
- 11:21wisdom to deactivate them. What if you no longer need?
- 11:33To explode. You no longer need to react
- 11:39because now each trigger becomes a message, a map, a gift.
- 11:51Not a threat, but an opportunity.
- 12:00I want you to use the power of your imagination to imagine
- 12:04walking through a field that represents your life and your
- 12:09history. Buried beneath the surface, a
- 12:16landmine, some of which are decades old.
- 12:22You can recall times that people have accidentally trod on these
- 12:27landmines and experienced an emotional reaction from you.
- 12:35But imagine now that instead of fear, trepidation, or the idea
- 12:45that others are provoking you into feeling the way you have
- 12:50been feeling, I want you to imagine that you carry something
- 12:56powerful with you, a device in your hand that finds the land
- 13:02mines and gently, safely deactivates them 1 by 1.
- 13:19But there is a lifetime of landmines here, and sometimes
- 13:25someone in your life, perhaps someone very close, may step on
- 13:30one. Not because they meant harm,
- 13:36because it was there, hidden. And in those moments, instead of
- 13:45blame or shame, you remember this is your moment to heal.
- 14:01And whether it's in the moment or in the aftermath of an
- 14:08emotional outburst, you will find the time to pause, to
- 14:16breathe and ask yourself, how would I have wanted to respond?
- 14:27What would my most healed self do in that very same situation?
- 14:34And you'll allow your imagination to give you
- 14:38different scenarios, rewinding it, playing it back, the same
- 14:43trigger but a different response.
- 14:49And as you imagine that new response, the charge fades, the
- 14:57wire is cut, and that landmine and anything like it is no
- 15:05longer a threat. It's just a memory.
- 15:13A memory without the pain and a memory that no longer triggers.
- 15:22You begin to realize now that. How people treated.
- 15:27You in the past said everything about them and nothing about
- 15:34your worth or value. I want you to imagine if someone
- 15:43has a priceless gem, but treats the priceless gem like something
- 15:54worthless and undesirable. That says more about the owner
- 16:00of the gem than the value of the gem.
- 16:06Priceless gem was always priceless, and that didn't
- 16:11change just because that value wasn't appreciated by the owner.
- 16:22I want you to think about a time in your life where you treated
- 16:26people that others deemed unworthy as worthy.
- 16:36And if other people are worthy and valuable and full of talents
- 16:42and potential, then that must be true for you too.
- 16:50Worth is not earned, It's not given by others.
- 16:56It is your birthright. Allow yourself to come to the
- 17:00conclusion that you are valuable.
- 17:04You are enough. You are already complete.
- 17:12And from this moment forward, what if every trigger becomes a
- 17:18chance, a key, an opening? You will react however you
- 17:27react, but after the reaction comes the response.
- 17:34An opportunity, a window where you can respond differently, to
- 17:40love yourself more, to write a new story in the very spaces
- 17:48where old pain used to live. To still be triggered is to
- 17:57still give these people power. They didn't deserve that power.
- 18:06They weren't responsible without power.
- 18:10And every time you change a trigger, you are taking that
- 18:15power back. And you'll notice that over
- 18:20time, fewer land mines appear. There are less explosive
- 18:30emotions from you that you feel calmer, safer and more whole.
- 18:39That things that. Used to create a certain
- 18:43response, create a different response.
- 18:52What used to make you think that you were provoked now makes you
- 18:56think. Healing is deactivating these
- 19:02triggers, and it gets easier and easier each time you do it.
- 19:11These triggers whenever yours by thinking how you would want to
- 19:17handle the very situation that used to trigger you.
- 19:22Deactivates the landmine from this point onwards.
- 19:33You can trust. Yourself, you can forgive
- 19:36yourself. You get to value yourself.
- 19:44I want you to feel priceless. Not just valuable, not just
- 19:49worthy, but priceless. I want you to feel more worthy
- 20:00than you've ever felt and let this feeling grow now, perhaps a
- 20:07warm glow in your chest or somewhere else, and allow it to
- 20:12spread through your whole body. A reminder that you matter and
- 20:19absolutely nothing can take that away.
- 20:25Think of all the good things you've done, the people you've
- 20:29helped. Even Despite that tough
- 20:36childhood, you would have been justified in being cruel and
- 20:44bitter and mean. And yet you weren't.
- 20:48That itself is valuable. As you allow yourself to feel
- 20:58this value increasing, let me know by nodding your head.
- 21:02That's it. It's time to return to the here
- 21:09and now. Sometimes forewarned is
- 21:14forearmed just in thinking that provocation is people
- 21:24accidentally stepping on your land mines is enough to remove
- 21:29at least half of all of these land mines to return feeling.
- 21:35Then your future is a future of less triggers, not more, of more
- 21:42happiness not less. To take a deep breath in through
- 21:47your nose and out through your nose.
- 21:53Wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 21:56Start to connect and calibrate with the here and the now as I
- 22:00now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you starting to count.
- 22:07123. Waking up 456 more.
- 22:10Alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 22:13Open your eyes 910 Wide awake, Wide awake.
- 22:18Wide awake. Thank you for listening to The
