- 0:00Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi. It's Adam here, and in today's
- 0:43episode of The Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a very
- 0:47special hypnosis session that was created not for the client
- 0:52that I was working with, but for someone that the client had in
- 0:56mind that they wanted to really have an impact on.
- 1:00And I was working with a client that had a real passion to help,
- 1:04particularly teenagers and young adults going through really
- 1:08severe levels of depression or mental health issues or anxiety.
- 1:14And they really wanted something that may be a useful resource.
- 1:19And the very timing of this you might be listening to this way
- 1:21after it was first published. But it is.
- 1:24Scheduled to be published on a day called Blue Monday and Blue
- 1:28Monday is, from a a narrative, from an editorial perspective,
- 1:35is meant to be the most depressing day of the year.
- 1:37It's the, I think the third Monday in January and
- 1:41particularly in Northern hemisphere tends to be quite
- 1:45dark and grim and rainy and grey.
- 1:48Christmas has gone and it has this idea that because of these
- 1:52variables it's quite a a depressing time.
- 1:56So that's the logic of it being published on this very specific
- 2:01day. And it is aimed at teenagers and
- 2:05young adults that may feel hopeless or may feel a great
- 2:09deal of pressure, or maybe they feel sad too much of the time.
- 2:13And there's designed. Really.
- 2:15To do 2 things, 1A tool to change emotional state quite
- 2:21quickly. And secondly, what I found,
- 2:24because when I was a teenager, around 19 years old, I was going
- 2:29through a very difficult period. And I think now I look back on
- 2:35it and it actually helped me become a therapist.
- 2:39But at the time, it felt very daunting, very overwhelming, and
- 2:43it felt hopeless. And I remember at the time
- 2:47having not just suicidal thoughts, but actually mapping
- 2:50out how I would actually do it. And therefore working with this
- 2:54particular client, I could really think of myself back then
- 2:59what would have helped me. And I think it would have been
- 3:03hope that comes from an idea that things possibly can get
- 3:08better. And there's no way of knowing
- 3:10that, but really hope. Is the.
- 3:12Possibility, not the guarantee. And hope is all you need because
- 3:16one of the key definitions of depression is a lack of hope, a
- 3:21feeling of hopelessness. So when you have that hope, it
- 3:25can make a big, big difference. And there is a metaphor.
- 3:28For you to. See a future that might be
- 3:33appealing or positive or compelling or just curious in
- 3:37some way and therefore it could be useful.
- 3:40Obviously this was created not for a specific client, but for a
- 3:44specific type of person, generally a teenager, a young
- 3:48adult. So if you know someone like that
- 3:52and you think they may benefit from this particular session,
- 3:55then you can forward a link to this.
- 3:59Most of the podcast platforms have a share button and that
- 4:03means you can send it to them on any of the messenger platforms
- 4:06or in an e-mail. Or as a.
- 4:07Text message or pretty much anything, so feel free to do
- 4:11that if you think it might help just one vulnerable person.
- 4:16But for now, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 4:19won't be disturbed. Relax and I won't say enjoy the
- 4:22session, but see if you can allow the session to.
- 4:25Create the possibility. Of positive change.
- 4:48Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:57slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale, just allow
- 5:05your eyelids to close. And as they close, position your
- 5:12body in a comfortable position, in a position where you can
- 5:20deeply relax without needing to make any movements or
- 5:27adjustments. And when you breathe in, just
- 5:34imagine breathing in slightly deeper than before.
- 5:42And as you exhale, feel a wonderful sense of letting go.
- 5:56And all those thoughts and all of those feelings that you've
- 5:59been feeling are real and valid and raw.
- 6:08Acknowledge them, experience them.
- 6:15You can't truly let something go that you haven't initially
- 6:21accepted. So breathe in and breathe out,
- 6:28and just allow your body to rest and your eyes to get heavier and
- 6:38heavier so your eyelids feel no desire to open at all.
- 6:50And with your eyes closed, you may find your awareness
- 6:55beginning to shift inwards, away from the outside world and
- 7:04toward the quiet, private space within.
- 7:17Continuing to breathe in that feeling of relaxation and
- 7:23exhaling any fines of tension. So breathe in slowly and deeply
- 7:32through your nose, hold it for a moment, and then let it out
- 7:41gently from your mouth or your nose.
- 7:46But with each breath out, imagine your body becoming
- 7:53heavier and more relaxed. And let's use that attention of
- 8:04yours to focus on the top of your head.
- 8:10Maybe it's the scalp, maybe it's your forehead, but focus on a
- 8:18specific part of your head and imagine, just like when a Pebble
- 8:24is thrown into a pond, it has an initial point of impact and then
- 8:30ripples outwards from that part of your head that you're
- 8:35focusing on. Imagine a ripple of relaxation
- 8:42washing over your scalp and just releasing any tension or
- 8:46tightness. And I wonder if you can allow
- 8:52this feeling to flow down, relaxing your forehead, your
- 8:59eyes, and your jaw, letting all of the muscles in your face
- 9:07become soft, loose and relaxed. And allow these ripples of
- 9:18relaxation to continue to move down, down through your neck and
- 9:24your shoulders, releasing any pressure or weight that you
- 9:29might be carrying there. Most people don't know that
- 9:34emotions are stored in the body. Stress sometimes in the jaw or
- 9:42the temple, anxiety in the gut. So allow allow this ripple of
- 9:53relaxation to release those emotions, releasing any tension
- 9:59or tightness, opening a valve to let unwanted emotions escape.
- 10:11So allow this feeling to flow down, relaxing your forehead,
- 10:17your eyes, and allow it to go all the way down now, neck and
- 10:24shoulders, all the way down into your arms and all the way down
- 10:29to your fingertips. And with each breath, you feel
- 10:34this sense of ease and calm flowing down your chest, into
- 10:40your gut, and through your legs. Maybe it ripples all the way
- 10:46down to your toes, and I wonder if you can get your body to
- 10:52become so deeply relaxed that even the idea of movement feels
- 10:59like too much effort. And maybe it's as though your
- 11:04body is sinking into a soft, safe cloud that supports you
- 11:11completely. And as you rest and allow your
- 11:22body to relax, imagine what you're breathing in.
- 11:26That feeling of relaxation is pure, clean, fresh air.
- 11:36Imagine the cleanest and purest and possible going in through
- 11:40your nose and your mouth, and with every inhale feel that the
- 11:47clarity and the clearness of the air is bringing in a
- 11:52resourceful, healing energy, giving you a sense of lightness.
- 12:00But as you exhale, I wonder if you could imagine heavy emotions
- 12:07like sadness, emptiness or anger leaving your body.
- 12:14But picture it as a dark grey mist, that the mist of those
- 12:21tiny droplets are carrying away those heavy emotions out of your
- 12:28body, breathing in fresh clean air and exhaling the emotions
- 12:39that need to be released. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 12:47relaxed you become, and the longer you exhale, the more of
- 12:54those unwanted emotions leave your body.
- 13:00But with each outward breath, the dark grey mist gets lighter
- 13:05and lighter. And don't be surprised if very
- 13:10soon you're breathing in clear air and breathing out clear air
- 13:18like your body is being cleansed.
- 13:27I want you to get a sense that you're inhaling hope and
- 13:32exhaling the weight of sadness. You're inhaling peace and
- 13:40optimism and exhaling any pressure or tension, and with
- 13:48every breath you're creating more and more space within you
- 13:54for clarity, for calm, and for something new.
- 14:03Because life can feel so heavy, so dark sometimes, like the
- 14:10whole world has turned grey, and some days it's hard to see any
- 14:15colour or any light. And maybe you felt that way
- 14:21lately. Or maybe you're feeling that way
- 14:25now. And maybe you've looked at
- 14:31others and felt like you don't measure up.
- 14:36Like their lives seems so much better, happier, or more perfect
- 14:40than yours. And it's easy to feel lost when
- 14:48you're comparing your inside feelings to someone else's
- 14:53outside image. And that pressure, that feeling
- 14:58of not enough can grow and grow until it feels unbearable, like
- 15:08you're carrying something far too heavy for just one person to
- 15:14bear. But here's the thing, even in
- 15:22these moments when it feels like there's no way out, you are
- 15:30still here. You are still breathing.
- 15:35And that means there is hope, even if you can't see it yet.
- 15:52Because sometimes those heavy feelings comes with thoughts
- 15:57that are hard to face. A thought that there might be an
- 16:03easier way out, an escape from all these heavy emotions,
- 16:10Something to make it bearable. And maybe you've wondered if the
- 16:20pain will ever end. Maybe you've wished and willed
- 16:27for a way to escape it. And it's OK to think those
- 16:33things and feel that way. It's OK to acknowledge them.
- 16:41But what if those thoughts, those feelings, aren't about an
- 16:51end at all? What if they're about a
- 16:55beginning, a sign that the part of you that feels so stark, so
- 17:02small, is now ready to change, to grow, to transform?
- 17:12What if it's a metaphorical end rather than a literal end?
- 17:21An end of the past, a chapter, a childhood, and all the things
- 17:28that no longer serve you. There's clothes you used to
- 17:35wear, and you don't wear them anymore.
- 17:39That's not the death of those clothes.
- 17:42You just changed them for something that fits you better
- 17:46for where you are now. As you say goodbye to those
- 17:54things that no longer serve you, you start to think about the
- 17:59seasons, and maybe you're just in a bleak, dark season and it
- 18:11feels like this season is going to last forever.
- 18:17What if this is just preparing you for the next season?
- 18:25A season where it gets easier, brighter.
- 18:31A season where those emotions that have been elusive to you
- 18:40become more frequent. Maybe what you're feeling now is
- 18:48not the end, just a moment of transition, of becoming
- 18:54something stronger, wiser and more resilient than you ever
- 19:00imagined. The strongest, tallest trees
- 19:07weathered the harshest storms. They became stronger because of
- 19:17their adversity, and maybe you're in a storm right now that
- 19:27will help you to become stronger than you ever thought possible
- 19:31in your future. As you continue to relax here,
- 19:41listening to my voice, let's explore a tool, something you
- 19:51can use whenever those feelings feel overwhelming.
- 19:58Maybe it's as simple as counting down from 5:00 to 1:00, and with
- 20:04each number you can feel yourself stepping back from
- 20:10those intense emotions. Creating space to breathe, to
- 20:16think, and to feel more in control.
- 20:25So let's try it now. Try and bring up one of those
- 20:34intense feelings. Acknowledge it, accept it, no
- 20:41longer trying to suppress it, and five take a deep breath in
- 20:50and just release that breath. Slowly breathe in again. 4 On
- 21:01the outward breath, just release any tension in your body.
- 21:09Three, try and locate the location of that feeling in your
- 21:14body, maybe your chest, your head, your gut or somewhere
- 21:20else. Breathe in and just set the
- 21:24intention to allow it to be released as five goes to four
- 21:32goes to three and then two. Finding a calm, quiet centre
- 21:37within you. I want you to get a sense that
- 21:44the body needs equilibrium for every intense emotion.
- 21:51The opposite also exists and locate that opposite feeling.
- 22:01If you're feeling sad, find a reason to smile.
- 22:08If you're feeling hopeless, look for where hope exists in your
- 22:13body. Exhale that hopelessness and
- 22:20breathe in hope. And then one get a sense that
- 22:26even if you're just one or 2%, like you've released that
- 22:34emotion, then that's progress and progress once can lead to
- 22:43progress against. And I wonder if the more you
- 22:49release any heavy emotions, the more space you're creating for
- 22:56something positive to grow. Maybe a dream, an idea, a plan,
- 23:04a goal. Because you can use your breath
- 23:09to release these emotions Whenever sadness, anger or
- 23:17anxiety feels like too much, simply take 5 long outward
- 23:23breaths and just imagine how it would feel for that energy to
- 23:30leave your body like a grey mist, creating a window of
- 23:38opportunity for something new. And I want you to use the power
- 23:52of your imagination to imagine something beautiful.
- 24:02Imagine staring into a crystal ball and seeing a possible
- 24:11future for you. I want you to see a future where
- 24:22something meaningful, something empowering, something exciting
- 24:33is happening in that future for you and you don't know how it
- 24:40will happen. All you need to do is imagine it
- 24:44happening. Sometimes the people that have
- 24:55the biggest impact on humanity are those that have experienced
- 25:02the most pain and sadness. It creates a thought that if
- 25:11they can help just one person to feel better, then it's all worth
- 25:17it. And maybe as you stare into your
- 25:22crystal ball, you see something that makes that future
- 25:30desirable. You impacting the world.
- 25:37You overcoming adversity. Maybe it's creating something,
- 25:48achieving something, or just experiencing something.
- 25:53Just see that future now. And if it feels like a struggle
- 26:04to see a positive future, ask the crystal ball to show you
- 26:14what could be there if your season changes, Where the things
- 26:25that feel heavy feel lighter and hopeless is replaced by new
- 26:32dreams, new connections, and new possibilities.
- 26:40Nobody knows what they don't know.
- 26:44So take your time, patient with yourself.
- 26:51What if you're doing better than you think you are and things
- 26:55will get better at their own time?
- 27:01What if the future ahead of you is so much more desirable,
- 27:11beautiful and wonderful? What if you have to live that
- 27:18future and imagine going back in time at the age where you are
- 27:26now that wouldn't believe how incredible your future becomes.
- 27:35You don't know what you don't know, which means there is a
- 27:40possibility that things do indeed get so much better.
- 27:50I want you to get a sense that this crystal ball is showing you
- 27:55just one of infinite possibilities.
- 28:00Possibilities of new friendships, connections,
- 28:08insights, moments of pride and accomplishment, adventures.
- 28:21And whenever you listen to this recording again, you will see a
- 28:26different future. And all it takes is one seed of
- 28:35an idea to be planted in your mind that will unleash
- 28:43motivation, determination, resilience, and tenacity to do
- 28:53one thing to move you in that direction.
- 29:01As you continue to breathe in and breathe out, notice that
- 29:05that dark grey mist isn't there anymore.
- 29:09What you breathe out is just as clear and pure as what you're
- 29:13breathing in, giving you a clue that something has changed.
- 29:21Maybe you feel lighter, more optimistic.
- 29:25Maybe there's a glimmer of hope. And hold on to that, because
- 29:32that is a seed that will enable wonderful things to grow.
- 29:44Shortly. I will count from 1:00 to 10:00
- 29:48to bring you back to the present, to the here and now.
- 29:53So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 29:58nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 30:01your toes. Connect fully into the here and
- 30:03the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 30:12Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 30:22Open your eyes. Open your eyes. 910.
- 30:25Wide awake, Wide awake, wide awake.
