- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money the podcast.
- 1:00Speaker 4: The next Personal Find is fun, especially on Fridays. It
- 1:03Speaker 4: is our favorite day of the week. Also, Jess is
- 1:06Speaker 4: because we're going to get to talk about Easter and
- 1:09Speaker 4: who doesn't.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Love a theme. Ah don't we all?
- 1:12Speaker 4: But it's our favorite day of the week because it's
- 1:14Speaker 4: our time to celebrate you. Ow incredible. She's on the
- 1:17Speaker 4: Money community. Mister Gricci is going to be here with
- 1:19Speaker 4: her Easter tips and the bunny vibes. She's also going
- 1:22Speaker 4: to be sharing her favorite money wins from the Facebook group.
- 1:26Speaker 2: We've got Beck who has.
- 1:27Speaker 4: A number of different broad tips for you, and we're
- 1:29Speaker 4: going to be helping to answer our money dilemma, which
- 1:32Speaker 4: is this week all about whether you should invest in
- 1:34Speaker 4: LICs and something that you slid into our dms about
- 1:38Speaker 4: should you stay in a job that is dangling a
- 1:40Speaker 4: big carrot that is not guaranteed? Before we get there, though,
- 1:45Speaker 4: how have your weeks been?
- 1:47Speaker 5: I think you should start Yes, East Joy, We're loving it.
- 1:50Speaker 5: My favorite day of the year is the day after
- 1:52Speaker 5: Easter when all the eggs go half priced.
- 1:54Speaker 2: And this year Ferrero Rocher have an egg. Oh I
- 1:58Speaker 2: haven't seen that. Wait for it. No, they have the
- 2:01Speaker 2: mini eggs.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yes, and they aren't just like bits of Ferrero Rocher.
- 2:07Speaker 4: They are Ferrero Rochet in an egg like it's got
- 2:10Speaker 4: their filling in the office had them you weren't there.
- 2:15Speaker 4: I ate a few extra for you, very nice. Don't
- 2:19Speaker 4: say I don't do anything for you, but they were
- 2:23Speaker 4: very good.
- 2:24Speaker 5: I'll keep an eye out if anyone sees me at
- 2:25Speaker 5: the shops at seven am the day after Easter. Room
- 2:27Speaker 5: my bunny slippers. You know what I'm doing.
- 2:29Speaker 4: I do not new bunny slippers actually, because bunny slippers are.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Revived for the whole year. I agree.
- 2:35Speaker 4: I agree my bunny slippers. I've gone to God. And
- 2:38Speaker 4: when I say gone to God, I mean Lucy took
- 2:41Speaker 4: one and had a turn and thought that it was
- 2:44Speaker 4: a chew toy And yeah, I haven't ever recovered mentally
- 2:48Speaker 4: from that.
- 2:48Speaker 2: But that's okay. Beck. How's your week been? Are you
- 2:51Speaker 2: are Easter bunny?
- 2:52Speaker 4: Yes?
- 2:52Speaker 2: I love Easter.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Did you organize your hunt that you were going to do?
- 2:56Speaker 2: I did?
- 2:57Speaker 6: It turns out a lot of people go away Easter weekend, yeah.
- 3:02Speaker 5: Especially with the back to back long weekends like yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 5: and so I'm like, you guys have next weekend, why
- 3:07Speaker 5: go in this weekend?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Anyway? But it's still a bit of fun, isn't it.
- 3:10Speaker 6: And honestly, I think at this point I am still
- 3:14Speaker 6: trying to rally the troops. I'm honestly just pulling strangers
- 3:17Speaker 6: off the street at this point. But yeah, it's been
- 3:18Speaker 6: a really really lovely week. I have done much, to
- 3:20Speaker 6: be honest, I'm just chilling, just viban, you know, I'm
- 3:23Speaker 6: just I'm just.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Like trying to live, live, live, love laugh.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I say it so quick that you think it's going
- 3:30Speaker 4: to be easy, don't I yeah, oh yeah, absolutely. It's
- 3:33Speaker 4: not easy to say live love laugh, It's really not.
- 3:36Speaker 4: I've perfected that, how about you V. I'm live love laughing,
- 3:39Speaker 4: and I'm excited for Easter. I'm actually really excited for
- 3:43Speaker 4: a bit of a break. It is, I think the
- 3:45Speaker 4: first Easter. So obviously, Harvey was around last Easter but
- 3:49Speaker 4: was a tiny sweet potato. So did nothing and all
- 3:51Speaker 4: I could do was dress him up in a bunny suit,
- 3:53Speaker 4: which I don't regret for a second. And I have
- 3:56Speaker 4: been trying to hunt down a bigger bunny suit that
- 3:59Speaker 4: is equally as cute, but they aren't. Like last year,
- 4:02Speaker 4: I got one from just Target and it was very
- 4:04Speaker 4: cost effective. I can't find one that is going to
- 4:07Speaker 4: cost less than fifty dollars, so he might be bunny
- 4:10Speaker 4: suitless this year. I just can't justify it, like it
- 4:13Speaker 4: just yes, Like, don't get me wrong, this is not
- 4:16Speaker 4: me complaining about money, but like, fifty bucks is a
- 4:19Speaker 4: lot of money to spend on a bunny suit that
- 4:21Speaker 4: your kid.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Wears once you know out of it.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Ye yeah, Like that just seems like I'm flushing money
- 4:27Speaker 4: down the toilet. But if you see me on Instagram
- 4:29Speaker 4: with a baby in a bunny suit, it's because I
- 4:32Speaker 4: had no self control. I haven't yet purchased one, but like, honestly,
- 4:38Speaker 4: just don't be surprised. No, I'm really looking forward to it.
- 4:41Speaker 4: I've had a pretty busy week this week, so I
- 4:43Speaker 4: think that I'm just really looking forward to a few
- 4:46Speaker 4: days off. And as I don't know as a business owner,
- 4:50Speaker 4: but genuinely as somebody who owns a business, taking time
- 4:53Speaker 4: off is great, But taking time off when you know
- 4:57Speaker 4: your team aren't work it's a different level of relax
- 5:00Speaker 4: because I just know that, like, no one's going to
- 5:01Speaker 4: be like, oh, hey, V Like I know that you're
- 5:04Speaker 4: x y Z, but I need an answer on Like,
- 5:06Speaker 4: no one's going to ask me anything, and I don't
- 5:08Speaker 4: have to like check in or anything. So it's just
- 5:09Speaker 4: nice to have some shared time off with the team.
- 5:13Speaker 4: So that's where I'm at. But yeah, and also this
- 5:17Speaker 4: week was busy, but I didn't miss looking at our
- 5:20Speaker 4: five star reviews and we are very lucky because we
- 5:23Speaker 4: have another one that I want to share.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yeah, are you ready ready?
- 5:26Speaker 4: So this one's from Lily, and Lily says life changing
- 5:29Speaker 4: five stars. I've been listening to She's on the Money
- 5:32Speaker 4: for about two years now, and it has changed my life.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I have paid off debts, changed my spending habits, and
- 5:39Speaker 4: started investing.
- 5:40Speaker 2: The girls are so much fun. Get this Jess.
- 5:44Speaker 4: In brackets, it says, especially Beck, I love listening to
- 5:50Speaker 4: every episode on my drives. About to leave on my
- 5:53Speaker 4: first ever real holiday, and it's thanks to She's on
- 5:56Speaker 4: the Money that I've been able to do this.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Thanks girls, nice? Why do you have to put in
- 6:03Speaker 2: brackets that Beck was the best one? Necessary details?
- 6:09Speaker 4: Like when people rub it in they're like, oh, yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 4: so what were you doing this weekend again, Jess?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Oh well, I'm going on a holiday. Yeah, we already know.
- 6:18Speaker 2: We know you told us ready. Everybody likes Beck the best.
- 6:22Speaker 4: We know.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I don't think so. People say that they I love
- 6:25Speaker 2: that too. That's really cute.
- 6:27Speaker 4: But Jess and I will just sit over here in
- 6:28Speaker 4: the corner and eat for a roach chocolates if you can't.
- 6:32Speaker 6: Yeah, we see less because I have lots to say. Actually,
- 6:36Speaker 6: the rest of the.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Start is here, you guys, rest Do you love that?
- 6:42Speaker 3: All right?
- 6:43Speaker 1: All right?
- 6:43Speaker 4: Moving on, Jess does still get her own segment of
- 6:46Speaker 4: the show, even though Beck seems to be at the
- 6:48Speaker 4: moment everyone's favorite Jess. You get to go first to though.
- 6:53Speaker 4: What are your community money wins this week?
- 6:55Speaker 5: Alrighty, first day this week. I've got money win from Tina,
- 6:57Speaker 5: who said she's renovating an old cottage which needs a
- 7:00Speaker 5: new kitchen and bathroom. The budget is super tight, so
- 7:03Speaker 5: she found a kitchen store that was moving locations to
- 7:05Speaker 5: a biggest showroom. She asked if they were selling X
- 7:08Speaker 5: display kitchens and they were, so she managed to score
- 7:11Speaker 5: herself a twenty three thousand dollar kitchen for three grand.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Oh what it still needed. It's a good deal. Wrapping
- 7:18Speaker 5: on the cupboards and a bit of tetris work, but
- 7:20Speaker 5: a huge money win. And then she said in another comment,
- 7:23Speaker 5: she recommends calling around to local kitchen stocks, just asking
- 7:26Speaker 5: if they sell X demo stocks.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Oh my god, if you're smart.
- 7:30Speaker 5: If you're going to do a reno, there's no harm
- 7:32Speaker 5: in giving a buzz and seeing if you can maybe
- 7:34Speaker 5: score yourself a bargain.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yes, that's so good.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money win from Chelsea, who said
- 7:39Speaker 5: she accidentally bumped into another car in her building car park.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Oh that would have been so stressed.
- 7:44Speaker 5: She tapped it so lightly. Apparently she didn't even realize
- 7:46Speaker 5: they reached out and got in touch with her. She
- 7:48Speaker 5: said she was mortified and obviously offered to pay for
- 7:51Speaker 5: all of the damage. They got a quote, and they
- 7:53Speaker 5: let her know that they had previously done their own
- 7:55Speaker 5: damage to a similar area of the car and just
- 7:59Speaker 5: asked her to pay.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Her the quote.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Oh so, she said money. We didn't have a great
- 8:02Speaker 5: lesson in kindness.
- 8:04Speaker 1: On.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Hold, I've just got questions. How do you run into
- 8:08Speaker 4: someone's car not notice like, and how did they.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Know it was Yeah? But how did they know a camera?
- 8:14Speaker 4: Oh, if there's cameras, fine, sleigh, But she mentioned they
- 8:18Speaker 4: got it on camera.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Well, I mentioned that, did she? How how else would
- 8:22Speaker 2: they know it was her? Exactly? How would they know?
- 8:25Speaker 5: Victoria's like conspiracy because.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Like immediately, like I just I was like, oh yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 4: like if someone called me and said I'd run into
- 8:33Speaker 4: their car immediately? So sorry, hold on, I think I
- 8:36Speaker 4: would notice.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Sometimes you don't know what are you mean?
- 8:40Speaker 5: Sometimes you don't know you're accelerating and you're literally just
- 8:43Speaker 5: like moving.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I think ping pong and now there I didn't
- 8:47Speaker 2: realize it hot, Like if you hit something, you I mean,
- 8:51Speaker 2: I don't know. All I know is I think it's conspiracy.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I think it's a conspiracy. I think Chelsea shouldn't have
- 8:57Speaker 2: paid anything.
- 8:58Speaker 5: There you go anyway, she's happy the money.
- 9:00Speaker 4: With Nope, I'm not. Now Now I'm like, I think
- 9:04Speaker 4: they stood.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Do you?
- 9:05Speaker 2: I think you got scammed.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money in from Hannah, who said
- 9:09Speaker 5: money win. Our hot water tank has been acting up
- 9:11Speaker 5: and eventually stopped heating all together. I was this close
- 9:14Speaker 5: to calling a plumber and had already started researching the
- 9:16Speaker 5: costs to replace the entire thing, but she decided to
- 9:19Speaker 5: dig a little bit deeper. She went through the manuals
- 9:22Speaker 5: and discovered that there was a timer function that had
- 9:24Speaker 5: somehow turned itself on, which meant the tank was switching
- 9:27Speaker 5: itself off every night, and then it just wasn't turning
- 9:30Speaker 5: back on in the morning. She said, she figured out
- 9:33Speaker 5: how to fix it thanks to the manual, and just
- 9:34Speaker 5: like that, it's working perfectly. Power doesn't cost a thing.
- 9:38Speaker 2: What you men can do, it can't be that hard.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Exactly how hard can it be? Next, I've got a
- 9:44Speaker 5: money win from Amma, who said she's signed up to
- 9:46Speaker 5: the Baker's Delight app and you get a free item,
- 9:49Speaker 5: which currently is hot Cross Buns, which I thought would
- 9:51Speaker 5: be perfect for orry this week. If you want to
- 9:53Speaker 5: get yourself some hot Cross buns to take East Moore,
- 9:57Speaker 5: sign up to the Baker's Delight up apparently, and you
- 9:59Speaker 5: get one fore, but she did say she didn't realize
- 10:02Speaker 5: your free coupon expires after two weeks, so she didn't
- 10:06Speaker 5: know that she signed up run out when she went
- 10:09Speaker 5: in to get the free item, she couldn't use it anymore. No,
- 10:12Speaker 5: but the lovely people a Baker's Light apparently gave her
- 10:15Speaker 5: the Hot Cross buns.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Anyway, Okay, that's highness.
- 10:19Speaker 4: I feel like I expect that from Baker's Delight, apart
- 10:23Speaker 4: from the fact that they pay people like six dollars
- 10:24Speaker 4: an hour.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Do they actually well, I remember you do, but like
- 10:31Speaker 2: you do? Well, are you going to get a job
- 10:33Speaker 2: in the future at Baker's still?
- 10:34Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 10:35Speaker 5: On the side, are you maybe for the free bread?
- 10:38Speaker 2: To be honest, you scream?
- 10:40Speaker 6: I work at bakers absolutely, Little Sweet Tree. It was
- 10:46Speaker 6: like when hayl Right, so you know, Matt from Hale
- 10:48Speaker 6: Right did like, you know, without context, I'm going to
- 10:51Speaker 6: say where people would work.
- 10:52Speaker 4: If they had like regular jobs. Yes, and they said
- 10:55Speaker 4: that I would work at flight Center.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I reckon, you.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Absolutely would be Baker's in the nine possible way. Also, Flower,
- 11:02Speaker 4: little Iron, I would slay at flight Center. You are right,
- 11:05Speaker 4: Come here, I will plan your holiday to I've got
- 11:08Speaker 4: the spreadsheet, I've got the deals. We're getting some cash
- 11:10Speaker 4: back on shop back as we're booking.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yes, sorry, you would not be going where you think
- 11:15Speaker 2: you're going. No. No, and also better, I have good recommendations.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Ask yess she is a great restaurant.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Wreck Yeah, that's true, say less.
- 11:23Speaker 6: And how you know even in as As Bakistan, you'd
- 11:26Speaker 6: be like, oh, yeah, this is beautiful place.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 4: But like I don't just research beck. I just don't
- 11:31Speaker 4: google our good restaurant in Bekastan.
- 11:35Speaker 7: It was.
- 11:37Speaker 4: But I'm looking up every single review. I'm looking at
- 11:40Speaker 4: every single picture on trip Advisor. I filter out the
- 11:43Speaker 4: ones that the company put up. We're not doing that.
- 11:45Speaker 4: I'm only looking at the ones that guests uploaded, and
- 11:48Speaker 4: then going on TikTok and looking up the hashtag.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I'm looking up the company name.
- 11:52Speaker 4: I'm looking up who has mentioned this, so that I
- 11:54Speaker 4: can get a full experience and then I can be
- 11:56Speaker 4: like oh yeah, actually I wouldn't go there.
- 11:58Speaker 2: There you go.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Last money when I've got this week is another egg
- 12:02Speaker 5: themed one for everybody. Money win from Jamie who said
- 12:05Speaker 5: we bought chickens before the price of eggs went up,
- 12:07Speaker 5: and we haven't had to buy eggs in oods. Get
- 12:10Speaker 5: yourself and friends that have chickens because my boyfriends mama
- 12:13Speaker 5: has chickens and we always have eggs. And the chickens
- 12:16Speaker 5: are really cute to cuddle. I love them.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Maybe I need to start cutting deals with you to
- 12:20Speaker 4: get eggs.
- 12:23Speaker 2: You got eggs undergrounding and I did this week. I
- 12:28Speaker 2: love that good.
- 12:29Speaker 4: The heck Actually, be get a chicken as a pet,
- 12:31Speaker 4: because yeah, very cute.
- 12:33Speaker 5: You've got kids that are asking for a pet. Make
- 12:34Speaker 5: it a chickens.
- 12:35Speaker 2: It's a double it's a win win.
- 12:37Speaker 6: My housemate about to get chicken so I can get Actually, yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 6: how are you naming them?
- 12:43Speaker 2: Pencil?
- 12:44Speaker 5: And it was a great name, a great name.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Right, what else have we got? Surely pencil is not
- 12:50Speaker 4: going to be an only child.
- 12:51Speaker 2: No, absolutely not.
- 12:52Speaker 6: And we also have apple, apple and pencil, apple and pencils.
- 12:56Speaker 6: I love this because of Michael Jackson. What did he
- 12:59Speaker 6: calls child?
- 13:00Speaker 2: Apple.
- 13:00Speaker 4: I don't know no kid blanket like it's sorry, I
- 13:05Speaker 4: think true who called her daughter apple Apple?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Yes?
- 13:08Speaker 4: Okay, which I still think again, I'm on my conspiracy theory.
- 13:12Speaker 4: I think it's a fake name, Jessica, because like, what
- 13:15Speaker 4: a better way than getting some good PR being like,
- 13:18Speaker 4: I'm going to tell the world my kid's name is Apple.
- 13:21Speaker 2: They're gonna believe it.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Identity protected, good PR, good exposure, seriously trained.
- 13:28Speaker 2: To I really am.
- 13:29Speaker 4: I'm so skeptical of everyone today. Everything is a scam. Ye,
- 13:34Speaker 4: everything is a scam. Also, maybe this is stemmed from
- 13:37Speaker 4: we have a group chat for my Zeala Money team.
- 13:40Speaker 4: We actually have a group chat for literally every team,
- 13:43Speaker 4: but like the Zella Money one, we have had people
- 13:45Speaker 4: trying to scam my team by sending phishing emails, which
- 13:50Speaker 4: you I've got and they're like work tusk allocated and
- 13:54Speaker 4: it's like to my team being like, Hi, Georgia, I'm
- 13:58Speaker 4: just wondering if while I'm out of the office, you
- 14:01Speaker 4: could do this task and like, obviously my team aren't
- 14:04Speaker 4: idiots and I would never email you.
- 14:08Speaker 5: I was just saying literally never and also hilarious they
- 14:10Speaker 5: think that's how you talk would probably be like, hey, bitch,
- 14:12Speaker 5: can you do it seriously?
- 14:15Speaker 2: Literally? Hey girl, what's up?
- 14:17Speaker 4: But I just I laughed so much, so I feel
- 14:20Speaker 4: like I've been scammed since seven am this morning and
- 14:23Speaker 4: being like, that's not me and my team are like
- 14:25Speaker 4: Victoria obviously are obviously hilarious.
- 14:28Speaker 6: Even an email from you. I feel like for the
- 14:30Speaker 6: rest of your life, you'd be like, that's not that's
- 14:31Speaker 6: actually not me. I can't really yeah, but like, if
- 14:33Speaker 6: you work in my team, I don't email. Yeah okay,
- 14:36Speaker 6: Like that feels too serious. Also, who has the time
- 14:38Speaker 6: to type out an email when I could call you,
- 14:40Speaker 6: voice note you message you like. I don't think I've
- 14:43Speaker 6: ever requested anything via email unless I'm like, okay trauma dump.
- 14:48Speaker 6: So last night at three am, I thought of a
- 14:51Speaker 6: podcast topic and here are all my thoughts on it
- 14:53Speaker 6: that at that point you get an email yeah that's yeah, okay,
- 14:58Speaker 6: which when I'm like, hey, sir, so that's great to
- 15:03Speaker 6: I feel like I've been emailing you for three months straight.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and I have a great connection. Yeah, if you're
- 15:09Speaker 2: a client, don't email me bye. Do you want to
- 15:12Speaker 2: hear some broticks?
- 15:13Speaker 4: I've never wanted something more in my life, but what's
- 15:17Speaker 4: your first one? So this first one comes from Bianca.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I actually stumbled upon this like a little TikTok. It
- 15:23Speaker 4: was like how to coupon in Australia. It's an app called.
- 15:27Speaker 6: Shping sing hp I m ging. That's very hard to say,
- 15:34Speaker 6: but it's worth it. We connect brands and customers. This
- 15:39Speaker 6: is coming from their website, by the way, because I
- 15:41Speaker 6: can't fully figure out what's going on. We connect brands
- 15:43Speaker 6: and customers through refreshingly rewarding shopping experiences all in one
- 15:47Speaker 6: app with a full set of smart features. Up your
- 15:49Speaker 6: shopping game and be that boss shopper that's always a
- 15:51Speaker 6: step ahead of everyone. Spend less and earn more while
- 15:55Speaker 6: sping to maximize what life has to offer. So it's
- 15:59Speaker 6: like a couponing, like saving money, you're spending money. You're
- 16:02Speaker 6: like from the TikTok I saw this girl was like
- 16:05Speaker 6: taking photos or like kind of like scanning the product
- 16:08Speaker 6: in her sping app.
- 16:10Speaker 4: What are they doing not helping themselves rewards by shopping,
- 16:15Speaker 4: which is rewards and I do like shopping, So it
- 16:19Speaker 4: sounds like a good idea.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Calling it sping though, was the choice? Yeah, that's it's
- 16:23Speaker 2: a hard one.
- 16:24Speaker 5: I guess that's the sound it makes when it scanned
- 16:26Speaker 5: something that's true, and.
- 16:29Speaker 2: It's like shopping without the op. I mean, we're not
- 16:32Speaker 2: going to forget the name, so maybe they really have
- 16:34Speaker 2: done something, or we'll only forget it. There's nowhere between.
- 16:39Speaker 2: All right, Well that's a good first one. What's number two?
- 16:41Speaker 6: The next one comes from Chevron, who says, one, uh,
- 16:49Speaker 6: if you go to in particular rich neighborhoods, you can
- 16:52Speaker 6: go anywhay you know where it's like hard rubbish or Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 6: that's a good idea.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It is great. It's just great for and.
- 16:57Speaker 4: You can look up their hard rubbish collection dates council
- 17:00Speaker 4: websites too.
- 17:01Speaker 6: And I have used this before just to I guess
- 17:04Speaker 6: like furnish your own home. But Chavon recommends going picking
- 17:07Speaker 6: up broken furniture on trash night, take it home, fixing
- 17:11Speaker 6: it up, selling it or marketplace.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Back to slaps the same. Yeah, just an old flip.
- 17:16Speaker 6: And I didn't realize, but like I sold a couch
- 17:18Speaker 6: the other day that was like, it's not a nice couch.
- 17:21Speaker 6: It's a nice couch, but it's not like the best couch,
- 17:23Speaker 6: and had like seven thousand messages for it, just because
- 17:26Speaker 6: of the way I styled it in the photo. Really job,
- 17:30Speaker 6: even if it's broken and you kind of fix it
- 17:33Speaker 6: if you just like.
- 17:35Speaker 2: You know, plants or whatever.
- 17:36Speaker 4: I mean, what if you see a nice little side
- 17:38Speaker 4: table on the road during hard rubbish, you don't even
- 17:42Speaker 4: have to fix it up. You can just take it home,
- 17:44Speaker 4: style it, you put it on Facebook, marketplace, bam, fifty bucks. Absolutely,
- 17:49Speaker 4: sometimes people just can't be bothered with the efforts.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Yeah, they just put it out.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, and like you can literally go to those council
- 17:56Speaker 4: websites and look at what date their hard rubbish collection is.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Go through little drive, go through a little wander so good, rude,
- 18:03Speaker 2: not too.
- 18:04Speaker 4: I mean, also, we need to bank it very clear
- 18:06Speaker 4: that it is actually illegal to take stuff from hard rubbish. Sure,
- 18:11Speaker 4: but I don't see anything.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I'm Australian.
- 18:13Speaker 4: That's very on Australian a weird rule. Like why it's weird,
- 18:18Speaker 4: isn't it?
- 18:19Speaker 5: Yeah, but if you are to go through something that
- 18:22Speaker 5: your neighbors had left out for.
- 18:23Speaker 2: You to look through, exactly, Nay, But that's what I did.
- 18:27Speaker 4: I just happened to coincidentally put it out on the
- 18:30Speaker 4: same day that hard rubbish would pick it. Up the
- 18:31Speaker 4: next stay, but I actually put it out early for you, Jess.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Yes, yes, yes, that is such a weird arbitrary.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Rute, isn't it. Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 4: I mean you're good at illegal broke tips. So have
- 18:44Speaker 4: you got any legal broake tips for us this week?
- 18:47Speaker 2: You want a legal one? I want a legal one.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I don't have to wrack my brain. I like the part.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Where obviously we're not going to put illegal broke tips
- 18:53Speaker 4: on the podcast, but Beck, you've tried a few and
- 18:55Speaker 4: we've had to cut them out and I was like,
- 19:00Speaker 4: but you cannot do that back and you're like, I'm
- 19:02Speaker 4: don't tell any Well, I'm like, cool, I'll just delete that.
- 19:05Speaker 6: If at any point you're listening and it sounds like
- 19:07Speaker 6: there's a really jarring like cut in the audio, it
- 19:11Speaker 6: just because.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Beck was being hinged. Yeah, it was still good. But
- 19:15Speaker 4: what have you got this week for us?
- 19:17Speaker 2: So this week?
- 19:17Speaker 6: I only thought of this yesterday because I was like,
- 19:19Speaker 6: I need an account where my bills come out of,
- 19:23Speaker 6: you know, and I don't have one of those. Before
- 19:24Speaker 6: I start signing up for an account, a bank account,
- 19:27Speaker 6: I'll check with all my friends seef as any because
- 19:29Speaker 6: you know, Iron G always send me these literally I
- 19:31Speaker 6: got one this morning. It was like a hundred bucks,
- 19:32Speaker 6: few hundred bucks for your friend.
- 19:33Speaker 2: So sign up.
- 19:34Speaker 6: Oh yeah, so to sign up to I love ang
- 19:39Speaker 6: So you know, I just assume everyone gets those and
- 19:42Speaker 6: so but.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Then I thought also shot Back. My friend wanted to
- 19:45Speaker 2: start a shot Back and I was like, wait a second.
- 19:47Speaker 6: I almost died on the spot because she bout to
- 19:50Speaker 6: download it and I'm like, no, no, no, I get
- 19:52Speaker 6: forty bucks. You get ten bucks, which doesn't seem fair.
- 19:55Speaker 4: But I was like, but it does seem like a
- 19:57Speaker 4: good incentive to get you to get your friend to.
- 20:00Speaker 6: Use your exactly exactly, so I would say before doing anything.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I don't get forty bucks.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Every time somebody downloads shop Back because it was my podcast, it.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Does go down.
- 20:10Speaker 5: We kind of deal so everyone got the extra money
- 20:12Speaker 5: instead of us.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Oh that that seems very nice. But it's so cute.
- 20:18Speaker 2: But it's not forty bucks.
- 20:19Speaker 6: Is that? No, it does go down like now it's
- 20:22Speaker 6: like thirty bucks and then just get a little.
- 20:24Speaker 2: But anyway, I think it's still nice.
- 20:25Speaker 6: It's free money, and yeah, but I think, yeah, before
- 20:28Speaker 6: we do anything about my advice is check if any
- 20:31Speaker 6: friends or any family members have an account already. I'm
- 20:34Speaker 6: sure there's some benefit ferral too you totally, yeah, totally,
- 20:40Speaker 6: the same happens with credit cards, Building futilities, Yeah, building houses.
- 20:45Speaker 5: Almost all of my friends have built with the same builder.
- 20:47Speaker 5: So every time someone builds, you get like iron board
- 20:50Speaker 5: is it's like a couple of hours and or something.
- 20:52Speaker 5: I sorry what I think the they the person building,
- 20:55Speaker 5: gets like money towards their building.
- 20:56Speaker 2: That's not very broch tip of you.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Just cool builders do it should be.
- 21:04Speaker 4: On the front page of the Daily Mail for being unrelatable.
- 21:07Speaker 5: Jessica person girl says, build house to earn five dollars.
- 21:13Speaker 5: It's worth asking a lot of like a lot more.
- 21:15Speaker 2: It's so true.
- 21:16Speaker 5: A lot more places do it than you would think.
- 21:19Speaker 6: Yes, totally totally. Every app you download from now on,
- 21:23Speaker 6: just check, just check.
- 21:25Speaker 2: So that's me.
- 21:26Speaker 4: On the flip side, we're going to be helping to
- 21:28Speaker 4: answer money dilemma, which this week is all about whether
- 21:30Speaker 4: you should be investing in an all I see and
- 21:33Speaker 4: you slid into our d ms about something. This week
- 21:35Speaker 4: we're answering the question of should you stay in a
- 21:38Speaker 4: job that is dangling a really big carrot in front
- 21:40Speaker 4: of you? But it is not guaranteed. Guys, don't go anywhere.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 21:50Speaker 5: money dilemma.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 21:56Speaker 4: can't solve. The She's on the Money team is here
- 21:59Speaker 4: to help. Every week we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 22:02Speaker 4: and small, to answer your most burning money, career.
- 22:05Speaker 2: And life questions.
- 22:06Speaker 4: To get involved, simply head to our website and leave
- 22:09Speaker 4: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 22:11Speaker 4: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 22:13Speaker 4: this week's money dilemma.
- 22:17Speaker 7: She's on the Money. My question is about listed investment companies.
- 22:22Speaker 7: My dad encouraged me to invest in an LIC, which
- 22:26Speaker 7: I thought was an ETF. I was wondering if it's
- 22:30Speaker 7: still worth investing in LICs anymore, and should I stop
- 22:35Speaker 7: that and invest in an ETF. Love the podcast, by
- 22:39Speaker 7: the way, Thank you.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Ah, that's so nice, that's very kind. I mean, really honest,
- 22:44Speaker 5: I have no idea what an LIC is, so so
- 22:47Speaker 5: Beck's going to have to answer, Yes, you've got anything
- 22:49Speaker 5: which is going.
- 22:50Speaker 6: To beg what if you got I would recommend you
- 22:55Speaker 6: google that.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Hopefully that's perfect that's really good advice.
- 22:59Speaker 4: I'm not going to google it, but I can just
- 23:01Speaker 4: tell you about it suffice. So it's kind of like
- 23:06Speaker 4: it's similar to an ETF, so you're kind of on
- 23:09Speaker 4: the same track. I would say that they're much more
- 23:12Speaker 4: popular with an older generation, so it kind of makes
- 23:15Speaker 4: sense that your dad recommended them.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Does that mean they're not good? No, absolutely not.
- 23:20Speaker 4: They're just not as popular and there aren't as many
- 23:23Speaker 4: of them. So essentially they're just a type of investment
- 23:27Speaker 4: fund that you can also find on the ASX. So
- 23:30Speaker 4: all ETFs and shares and bonds they trade through the
- 23:34Speaker 4: AX and LICs are no different. But when you invest
- 23:37Speaker 4: in an LIC, you're essentially buying into a diversified portfolio
- 23:41Speaker 4: of assets that is managed by a professional team. You
- 23:46Speaker 4: might go, well, that's an ETF, No, it is not.
- 23:49Speaker 4: It is usually less assets than an ETF, and in
- 23:54Speaker 4: an LIC you could get Australian shares or international shares,
- 23:57Speaker 4: and it really depends on what that LIC or that
- 24:00Speaker 4: listed investment companies focus or goal is. You often find
- 24:06Speaker 4: that people are choosing LICs because they offer incidant diversification
- 24:10Speaker 4: same as an ETF, regular.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Dividend payments, usually kind.
- 24:14Speaker 4: A bit of a set and forget approach if you're
- 24:17Speaker 4: not somebody who wants to manage your own portfolio.
- 24:20Speaker 2: They're also close ended, so.
- 24:23Speaker 4: That means that there is a limited number of them available,
- 24:26Speaker 4: so like once that amount of investors is capped out,
- 24:30Speaker 4: you can't get into that LIC, which is a little
- 24:32Speaker 4: bit different than an ETF where you're purchasing and usually
- 24:37Speaker 4: there's a lot more of them to go around, and
- 24:40Speaker 4: it can make pricing a to a bit different than ETFs,
- 24:44Speaker 4: which are open ended. LICs can also trade at a
- 24:48Speaker 4: premium or a discount to their net asset value, so
- 24:51Speaker 4: that's like something to keep in mind before you jump in.
- 24:55Speaker 4: So what I'm trying to say basically is they do
- 24:57Speaker 4: carrying more risk than an ETF because they're often trying
- 25:01Speaker 4: to beat to the market instead of match the market
- 25:04Speaker 4: when it comes to their investment returns. So you know
- 25:06Speaker 4: how we say, you know, I want average returns, and
- 25:10Speaker 4: a lot of people will be like, Vie, that's so dumb,
- 25:12Speaker 4: like and we're just talking about my personal investment strategy here,
- 25:15Speaker 4: not about like what everyone should be doing, but like
- 25:17Speaker 4: when it comes to my personal investment strategy, like I've
- 25:21Speaker 4: started investing young, I actually don't want to rock the boat.
- 25:24Speaker 4: Like I'm a very conservative, aggressive investor, so I'm picking
- 25:27Speaker 4: like try true blue chip stocks, but I'm investing a lot,
- 25:32Speaker 4: so I'm quite aggressive in terms of what I'm holding.
- 25:35Speaker 4: I don't like holding casher like holding ETFs at investments, right,
- 25:39Speaker 4: But an LIC is a bit more risky, so you've
- 25:41Speaker 4: got to weigh that up. And just like any investment,
- 25:45Speaker 4: like it's so important to understand how it's going to
- 25:48Speaker 4: fit into your broader strategy and do some research. But
- 25:50Speaker 4: like they can be a good long term option for
- 25:53Speaker 4: a lot of people, but again more risk, more return,
- 25:57Speaker 4: and something that is not as popular as an ETF
- 26:01Speaker 4: or a managed fund. Essentially, that answer the question, I'm
- 26:05Speaker 4: satisfied you guys seem nabbed so that I have explained
- 26:13Speaker 4: what an L I see is to you. I'm still
- 26:15Speaker 4: wrapping my brain around that little bit.
- 26:16Speaker 5: I think I'm digesting, you know.
- 26:19Speaker 4: So it's essentially a more high risk version of an
- 26:21Speaker 4: ETF with less stuff in it, Jess, same idea as
- 26:26Speaker 4: a basket of shares, Like, same concept. You're diversifying your risk,
- 26:30Speaker 4: but you are taking a bit more risk because you're
- 26:34Speaker 4: hoping that this will return more for you than it
- 26:38Speaker 4: would if.
- 26:39Speaker 2: You were in an ETF.
- 26:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:41Speaker 4: So if you've done your risk profile and that aligns
- 26:44Speaker 4: with what you want to do, great, But they're not
- 26:47Speaker 4: usually that popular because on average, if you look at
- 26:50Speaker 4: the returns, they end up being relatively similar to an
- 26:54Speaker 4: ETF in terms of returns. And that doesn't mean that
- 26:59Speaker 4: the goal is different, Like the goal is to outperform
- 27:02Speaker 4: the market, but like I can set that coal, I
- 27:04Speaker 4: want to make shitloads of money too, doesn't mean I'm
- 27:07Speaker 4: going to so often you've got a way up. Is
- 27:11Speaker 4: it worth taking more risk to get more return or
- 27:14Speaker 4: is it just tried?
- 27:15Speaker 2: True, steady, keep on keeping on.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Sure, Okay, you got answer. I feel like that me
- 27:22Speaker 4: being like okay, so yeah, I think I.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Get that because in my head it's like tortoise in
- 27:28Speaker 2: the hair.
- 27:28Speaker 6: It's like one road is like chaotic and like fun
- 27:31Speaker 6: and like up and down, and then the others like
- 27:33Speaker 6: slow and steady, and but.
- 27:35Speaker 2: You get there safely. You both get there.
- 27:38Speaker 6: There, you get there and like the same time, ish
- 27:43Speaker 6: you both kind of get the same reward over time.
- 27:46Speaker 5: The very nictionality from you back, thank.
- 27:48Speaker 6: You so much. I know that the tortoise gets there faster.
- 27:51Speaker 6: It is the actual point of that story. But in
- 27:54Speaker 6: this story we end up in the same place.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Yeah, but also in the investing world, I'm so happy
- 27:59Speaker 4: to be the like I really am. Like, I think
- 28:03Speaker 4: that there's so much information out there right now, especially
- 28:07Speaker 4: because we know what's going on with the US market
- 28:09Speaker 4: and Trump and everyone's got an opinion, and I just
- 28:13Speaker 4: think that I'm not looking to blow the lights out.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I'm actually looking to keep my lights on forever.
- 28:19Speaker 4: And for me, it's about tried and true and steady,
- 28:23Speaker 4: and even though the market is down, I'm not changing
- 28:25Speaker 4: my investment strategy. And I think that this is a
- 28:27Speaker 4: good lesson in like, hey, there's another investment option out there.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Consider it work out if it works for you. But
- 28:33Speaker 4: if it does work for you, you'd be wanting to
- 28:35Speaker 4: commit to it for the long term, not try it
- 28:37Speaker 4: out for a month or a year and then change.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Totally.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Yeah, ship into the GCDM for the week.
- 28:43Speaker 4: If I have been looking forward to this one because
- 28:45Speaker 4: I love a bit of goss. I love a bit
- 28:47Speaker 4: of drama, and I feel like that's what this story has.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Someone DMed us this week. You ready yeap Hi cheese.
- 28:53Speaker 4: On the money, I'm stuck on a money dilemma. My
- 28:57Speaker 4: husband just got offered a new job with way better
- 28:59Speaker 4: pay enough to take some serious pressure off us right now,
- 29:03Speaker 4: but he only took his current job because of the
- 29:06Speaker 4: employee share scheme, and if he leaves now, we lose
- 29:10Speaker 4: it completely. We've made a lot of sacrifices for that plan,
- 29:14Speaker 4: turned down other offers, tightened our budget, all in the
- 29:17Speaker 4: hope that one day it would pay off. And if
- 29:20Speaker 4: the business sells like we think it might, it could
- 29:23Speaker 4: seriously change our lives and we could retire early.
- 29:26Speaker 2: But it's not guaranteed.
- 29:28Speaker 4: He wants to take the new job, and I get it,
- 29:31Speaker 4: but part of me wonders if we're giving up on
- 29:33Speaker 4: something huge right before it happens. I'm usually a logical one,
- 29:37Speaker 4: but I don't want to look back and regret it
- 29:39Speaker 4: if the sale goes through. Help what would you do?
- 29:44Speaker 4: Got a few thoughts.
- 29:46Speaker 6: The first one is like, did this person's partner were
- 29:48Speaker 6: they actively applying for jobs? Or do someone just like say, hey,
- 29:51Speaker 6: do you want this job?
- 29:52Speaker 4: You know, I think a job's popped up and it's
- 29:54Speaker 4: like a very good opportunity, Like if he's a good employee,
- 29:57Speaker 4: could have been tapped on the shoulder and been like, hey, mate,
- 30:00Speaker 4: heard about you.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Could have been okay. I mean, let's assume that because.
- 30:04Speaker 6: There are two ways to look at this, and in
- 30:06Speaker 6: the first way is that he was actively looking for
- 30:09Speaker 6: a job because he's miserable where he's at, or he's
- 30:12Speaker 6: like scared, or he's like either way, like it's not
- 30:15Speaker 6: doing very well for his mental health. In that case,
- 30:17Speaker 6: in any situation, I'm like, absolutely prioritize mental health and
- 30:21Speaker 6: happiness and well being over anything, including money, no matter what. Well,
- 30:25Speaker 6: maybe there are some things that depend on that, but anyway,
- 30:28Speaker 6: that's one route. But if it's like you guys are comfortable,
- 30:31Speaker 6: everyone's happy, just chillin'. It's probably a little bit tight,
- 30:35Speaker 6: but you can make it work. And someone just said,
- 30:38Speaker 6: oh do you want this, then I would stay. I
- 30:43Speaker 6: would stick it out. I would be like, this is
- 30:44Speaker 6: kind of cool, like you could retire earlier. I don't
- 30:46Speaker 6: know what the hell this is, but it sounds incredible,
- 30:50Speaker 6: Like if you if there are so many opportunities, I
- 30:52Speaker 6: would stick it out. If you're comfortable, if you're okay
- 30:55Speaker 6: right now, even if it's a bit tired, but you've
- 30:58Speaker 6: been doing it, Like, just keep doing it, you know
- 31:00Speaker 6: what I mean? And then just like maybe it seems
- 31:03Speaker 6: like our listener's partner has a lot of you know,
- 31:05Speaker 6: skills and is in high demand, so I wouldn't worry
- 31:08Speaker 6: too much about boy. Yeah, I would be like, just
- 31:11Speaker 6: keep trying, and then if you gets your point, we're like, Okay,
- 31:13Speaker 6: we really got to get out of this. Then I
- 31:16Speaker 6: doubt that they'll have problems trying to find a new
- 31:18Speaker 6: job in the future. What is it an employee share scheme?
- 31:21Speaker 6: It's where you join I like that. You're like, hold on,
- 31:24Speaker 6: I've got all this advice. Wait what am I giving
- 31:26Speaker 6: advice on.
- 31:27Speaker 4: It is basically where if you goal and work for
- 31:31Speaker 4: a business, they pay you, but more often than not,
- 31:35Speaker 4: they're not paying you a blow the lights out salary,
- 31:39Speaker 4: but they should be for that role. But instead they're
- 31:42Speaker 4: offering new shares in the company, but only if you stay.
- 31:46Speaker 4: So if you leave the business, you don't get to
- 31:49Speaker 4: keep the shares. They would take them back. But if
- 31:51Speaker 4: you're an employee at the time that that business sells
- 31:55Speaker 4: and you have the employee share scheme, you would be
- 31:59Speaker 4: paid out.
- 31:59Speaker 2: For those shares.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Whoa Okay, So like it's a good idea in theory, Jess,
- 32:05Speaker 4: what would you do?
- 32:07Speaker 5: So maybe it's a different setup. But in some employees
- 32:11Speaker 5: share schemes, usually there's a point at which they vest.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Right can be it they're vesting shares or non vesting shares.
- 32:19Speaker 5: Because I personally just don't see the appeal. So vesting
- 32:23Speaker 5: is like when it becomes yours.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Yeah, So like it's like in trust or it's like promise.
- 32:27Speaker 4: So you could see the word vested as like it's
- 32:29Speaker 4: promised to you, but it's like a legal promise, so
- 32:32Speaker 4: it's going to happen.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:34Speaker 4: So like I could say to you, hey, bet, come
- 32:36Speaker 4: work for Shees on the money. I'm going to give
- 32:38Speaker 4: you fifty percent of the business, but it's not going
- 32:42Speaker 4: to be your business unless you work for me and
- 32:44Speaker 4: it all works out between you and I for three
- 32:47Speaker 4: years and then we would have a document between the
- 32:50Speaker 4: two of us and after three years, if everything is
- 32:54Speaker 4: sunshine and roses, automatically you get fifty percent of the business.
- 32:58Speaker 4: But if you got fired before then you quit before then,
- 33:01Speaker 4: well that document is now null and void.
- 33:03Speaker 2: In those shares should become yours.
- 33:06Speaker 4: But vesting is essentially a legal promise, like I promise
- 33:09Speaker 4: to give them to you, but not yet.
- 33:11Speaker 2: And then after the three is whether you stay or leave,
- 33:13Speaker 2: there's your.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Yeah, which is what I was gonna say, is like
- 33:16Speaker 5: I just don't really see the appeal of like, oh,
- 33:18Speaker 5: like you own shares in this company and if it
- 33:20Speaker 5: sells while you're here, Like, I don't see my anyone
- 33:23Speaker 5: say yes to that, because what are the chances of the.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Companies do Like I've seen it he czy to me.
- 33:28Speaker 4: People get sold dreams by people who are taking advantage
- 33:31Speaker 4: of that. I've also seen people who were promised shares
- 33:34Speaker 4: then the business gets sold and they say, sorry, that
- 33:37Speaker 4: wasn't legally documented. And I don't care about burning that
- 33:39Speaker 4: relationship with you catch you BUYE.
- 33:42Speaker 2: It's actually insane. I don't know.
- 33:44Speaker 4: I think my advice is if the stability and better
- 33:48Speaker 4: income and improved quality of life right now is a
- 33:52Speaker 4: value to you, that might actually be worth more than
- 33:55Speaker 4: waiting on a maybe Like you're telling me that you're
- 33:59Speaker 4: going to earn more money now, so like how much
- 34:01Speaker 4: is this?
- 34:02Speaker 2: You're going to get a million dollars?
- 34:03Speaker 4: Like you did say you could retire early, but like
- 34:06Speaker 4: maybe retire early, like really I don't know how much
- 34:09Speaker 4: company sells for as well exactly, And like what if
- 34:14Speaker 4: you use that increased income that you're getting from this
- 34:17Speaker 4: new job to create wealth like yourself and like your
- 34:21Speaker 4: own version of wealth On the flip side, I think
- 34:23Speaker 4: it might be worth asking your partner like what do
- 34:26Speaker 4: you want? And then what do I want? And like
- 34:29Speaker 4: how do we both feel at peace with this decision?
- 34:31Speaker 4: Like what's the best thing here? Like, yeah, as your
- 34:34Speaker 4: husband actually had a proper conversation with his employer about
- 34:37Speaker 4: the shares, like cool, do I lose them? Do they vest?
- 34:41Speaker 4: Like what's going on here? How does that work? Like
- 34:44Speaker 4: is there any flexibility with the scheme if he left?
- 34:47Speaker 4: Like or is there any flexibility for a pay rise now?
- 34:51Speaker 4: Because clearly things are tied otherwise I wouldn't be asking, yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 4: like what does a financial plan look like? Like I
- 34:58Speaker 4: think the conversation is a bit more open because you know,
- 35:02Speaker 4: I don't offer that in my businesses, but hypothetically if
- 35:06Speaker 4: I did, and then I found out that Jess hated
- 35:08Speaker 4: working at she's on the money, Like how much do
- 35:13Speaker 4: I want her sticking around and bringing.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Down the vibe?
- 35:17Speaker 4: Like you don't idea that, like you know, if she's unhappy,
- 35:20Speaker 4: she's probably bringing down the vibe. She's doing all of
- 35:23Speaker 4: those things, but she's sticking around because she technically owns
- 35:26Speaker 4: part of the business and doesn't want to lose it. Ye, Like, honestly,
- 35:31Speaker 4: I'd prefer Jess to go and keep part of the business.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Yeah, depends on the size of the company. To the right,
- 35:36Speaker 5: it's like a big company like Apple, for example, on a
- 35:38Speaker 5: employee share scheme. I don't know what the differentiation is,
- 35:41Speaker 5: but you can also purchase shares at a discounter price
- 35:44Speaker 5: right under an employee share scheme. So it's kind of like,
- 35:47Speaker 5: if it's a big company, that example you're giving is
- 35:49Speaker 5: probably less applicab because there's ten million bodies on the
- 35:52Speaker 5: ground where totally. If it is, like you said, a
- 35:54Speaker 5: small team, then maybe not as much. But what did
- 35:56Speaker 5: everybody else say?
- 35:57Speaker 4: Yes, So we asked what would you do if you
- 35:59Speaker 4: were our community member. Forty two percent of you said
- 36:02Speaker 4: you'd take the safe job, sixteen percent of you said
- 36:05Speaker 4: you'd stay, forty one percent said it was too hard
- 36:07Speaker 4: to choose.
- 36:08Speaker 2: We asked what would you regret more, and.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Fifty two percent of you said wasting years for nothing.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Then twenty percent said no regrets, just lessons, fourteen percent
- 36:18Speaker 4: said walking way too soon, and thirteen percent said I
- 36:21Speaker 4: actually regret everything. And then, honestly, the advice in our
- 36:24Speaker 4: DMS was very similar to what we were saying, like
- 36:27Speaker 4: talk to your company, have a chat, like I'd suss
- 36:30Speaker 4: out what the company payout is, like what's the business
- 36:33Speaker 4: like worth. Then a lot of people will like, don't
- 36:35Speaker 4: forget about like sunk cost fallacy. Honestly, it helps in
- 36:38Speaker 4: similar situations like just because you've invested time and there
- 36:41Speaker 4: is an opportunity doesn't mean it's the best. And then
- 36:44Speaker 4: someone said, you can't eat equity for breakfast, and I
- 36:47Speaker 4: think that that is a very good place to leave it.
- 36:50Speaker 2: So it's been good, live, love, laugh, guys.
- 36:55Speaker 4: But have a happy Easter and we'll see you bright
- 36:57Speaker 4: early on Monday morning for Money Diary.
- 36:59Speaker 5: Bye guys, hoppy Easter, You're so cute.
