- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Live Well Podcast.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: I am incredibly excited for this episode.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: This might be one of my most favorite episodes that I've ever done because I really break down what it actually means to do the emotional work, the somatic work, how trauma interacts with your nervous system, and really the science of unconditional love and how this all ties together so that you can really understand how trauma affects your system, really understand the work that I do, and then if you're feeling drawn, be able to jump into whatever one of my programs and containers that are really gonna help you with this.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But listen to this episode, save it, send it to friends, family, whoever you know needs to understand this because unfortunately, there's not enough humans on this planet who understand these concepts, and it is integral not only in your health, but in your relationships, your wealth, your career, everything.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: So, with that being said, let's go ahead and dive into the episode.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So I want to start off with talking about what is trauma.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Alright, what is trauma?
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I use the word a lot, trauma, release your trauma, heal your trauma.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Trauma is any intense experience in which three sorry.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start that whole trauma thing again.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: So trauma is an intense experience in which more than three emotions are experienced at the same time.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: This can be fear, sadness, grief, anger, shame, guilt, I mean it doesn't matter, there's so many hosts of different emotions.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: What's important is that more than three at the same time.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And what happens is when your brain experiences more than three emotions at the same time, your brain and nervous system cannot process all of it at once.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: So it gets overloaded and it splits.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And once it splits, these separate parts are stored in your body as excess energy because your body does not know how to utilize it.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Of course, I'm gonna give a Harry Potter reference, it wouldn't be me if I didn't.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I want you to think about when Voldemort is making his whore cruxes.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: If you're not familiar with Harry Potter, watch this movie, it'll help, but also I think a lot of us are, it'll help kind of solidify this in.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: When he splits his soul, he splits it into these whore cruxes.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: So it's like part of him lives in the snake, part of him lives in the diary, part of him lives, that is how your nervous system splits.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: So it splits into these parts of you that are you but are not part of the whole, and then your system feels a lot, a less than.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: It feels separate energy, right?
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Except this energy stored inside your body instead of this horcrux being somewhere else.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: So the problem is you've got all these little horcruxes, all these separate parts that are stored in your body, but they're split, so they're not integrated.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Now, like we said, once it's splits, these separate parts are stored as excess energy that your body doesn't know how to utilize.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: In order to release this excess energy, the emotions need to be disconnected from the event or the memory.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, it will continue to be stored in your nervous system.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Your system wants to let go of this energy, it just needs the guidance to remember how.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So, exactly what doing the work means.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Doing the emotional work means really sitting with the parts of you that have been split, repressed, pushed down, and therefore unable to fully complete their experience.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: It was like, holy shit, more than three emotions at once, can't handle, split, and so we've got some guilt that hasn't been, you know, fully dissolved.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Some fear, some shame, some guilt.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: It was just too much at once.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: You need to sit with those parts, complete them so that they can fully integrate back and let go and dissolve.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: When you somatically complete the cycle of emotions that are stored in your nervous system, it allows your system to physiologically shift.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: And this is why talking about emotions doesn't necessarily somatically release them from your body because the excess energy is a physical measure.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: It's something that can be palpable, can be felt.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: That's why you get symptoms, that's why you get bloating or PMS or hormones or pain or eczema, acne.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, we can name all things depression, anxiety, whatever.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Because it needs to be released somatically.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Emotions are energy in motion.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: You can't just talk, it needs to physically shift and move.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: So prior, your body was in a more resto-digest.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: But then when it gets too many of these traumas, too many of these overloaded of emotions and splits, your body starts to creating hormones, neurotransmitters, and a whole host of biochemical reactions based on being stuck in fight or flight.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: So I've been asked a question like ass slash old, like, oh, I don't really think I have trauma.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: You know, I don't know.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Trauma does not have to be physical abuse, though obviously it can be.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be necessarily macro trauma like sexual trauma, physical abuse, divorce.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: It's any instance where you've experienced more than three emotions at the same time.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: You could lose your mom in the grocery store and experience fear, um, anxiety, sadness, grief.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: What do you know what I mean?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: So it's any instance.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And once you start to really validate that and really allow yourself to not label your experiences as not trauma enough, you actually allow yourself to heal.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: So your body is stuck in this fight or flight, right?
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Based on experiencing more than three emotions at once, it's split, now it's in fight or flight because it has all this excess energy, it's secreting hormones, neurotransmitters, and all these biochemical reactions.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Hormones that influence your menstrual cycle, your blood sugar, your metabolism, neurotransmitters that influence mood, your nervous system, your fertility, I mean everything.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: All of this affects your gut, because as we know, your nervous system, your gut is intertwined.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Then we also have anxiety and depression, all these things.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: When you recode your nervous system, you disconnect the emotion from the memory so that the emotion can leave the body.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Star, underline, chicken eye.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: When you recode your nervous system, you disconnect the emotion from the memory so that the emotion can leave the body.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: The emotion is simply stored energy waiting to be released so your nervous system can move on.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Those two lines, double star, understand, rewind, re-listen if you need to.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: If you need to listen to this episode twice, please do save it, come back to it, because I really want you to understand it.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, most of us are not taught, oh my gosh, 99.9% of us are not taught growing up how to do this.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: And actually, with my clients, a lot of the time if they have kids, I teach them ways to allow their kids to healthily express their emotions so that it doesn't get stored in their body, but you know, that's a separate thing we can work on if you're a mom.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: But most of us are not taught growing up how to do this.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: We're not taught in school how to properly feel our emotions and not store them.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: In fact, a lot of the time there's shame around experiencing emotion.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: They're frowned upon, it's not good.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: So everything from when you were born until now can be stored in your body if you did not properly release it at the time.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Another, like, quote, star of this, right?
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: And it's not your fault.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: But it's also important to now that you've become aware of it, allow yourself to actually release it.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: And to not always try to do it on your own, because another question I get asked is how do I release my own trauma?
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: You don't.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Just like I said, you weren't taught to.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: It's like, how do I remove my own appendix?
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: You probably don't.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: You know, if you don't know how to fix a car, you're not a mechanic, you're not gonna necessarily fix your car because that can contribute to more issues.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: If you don't know what you're doing, like trauma is serious, it is not a light thing, it is you can actually re-traumatize yourself, cause more harm than good if you are trying to Google your way out because you are not held in a safe container that's actually a where you know what you're doing, because it it's it's taken schooling.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: You know, I went to school for like a decade, it's taken experience, like I have to hold you in a safe space, and so it's very hard for you to release your own trauma to hold the space for yourself, but then also allow yourself to fully crumble, to know the modalities and to guide yourself through it, like it's tough, right?
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: So I don't want you to necessarily approach this on your own or with someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: So please, if you're going to do this work, do it with someone who knows what they're doing.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Okay, and remember that like your body does want to release it, it just needs some guidance because it doesn't know how and it needs to remember, it needs to be guided.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: So, one of the greatest healing powers we have within us is the capacity to heal.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: We all have the capacity to heal, whatever your symptoms are, whether that's even like a physical symptom or like symptoms in your life, whatever it is.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: We often think that, like while like the doctor, a doctor live does the healing, it's really like I help and guide your body to heal for itself to heal.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: And I really want to tie this into self-love and how we see ourselves because when we meet someone or see someone, it could be either online or in real life, we get into this habit, or we can, if we have a lack of self-love, of judging them, and so we put a condition on them and minimize ourselves in response, causing us to feel lack of some sort.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And when we do this, we put conditions and emotional charges, and this is done by structures that are imprinted through our conditioning growing up via society that make us minimize ourselves.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, star this.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Very important.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: And this is not authentic because we are whole, complete, we are pure love.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: This shame or whatever emotional charge causes inauthenticity within ourselves because it deviates us from the true premise of we are loved whole, complete, and perfect already.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Underline that we all want to be loved for who we are, but if we are not being who we are, we won't feel love for it, and then we have emptiness.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: And that emptiness and those disowned parts of ourselves and those split parts of ourselves that we perceive as less than, that we don't own as being not allowed or not good or not enough, let alone the fact that they're beautiful, right?
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: At the level of the soul is the state of unconditional love.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Nothing is missing in us.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: But when we perceive things as missing in us, that not only gives that empty feeling but affects our physical bodies.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Star underline.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Because what happens is when we perceive someone else is better than us or has something that we don't, and then we feel negative, this causes an activation in your amygdala.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Your amygdala assigns whether we experience something as pleasure or pain, positive or negative, attractive or repulsive.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: When we assign something as positive via our amygdala, we activate what is called the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest and digest.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: Of course, this is calming.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: When it assigns a negative, repulsive, or painful, so what you say about yourself, the actions that you take, etc., this activates your sympathetic response, the fight or flight, sometimes fawn response.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Mind-blowing, I know.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: So that's the self-love component.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: So we have the trauma component, which again is any three emotions or more than three emotions at the same time.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Then our perception, our amygdala labeling something as negative, repulsive, or painful based on what we see about ourselves and the actions that we take in the world.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: And this is where the problem occurs.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: So when your amygdala perceives the negative, painful, or repulsive, it activates a sympathetic response.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Think about how often you do that.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Whether you look in the mirror, when you look at your bank account, Instagram, comparison, I don't know, star, underline, like of course.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Then of course, the physical symptoms that come from being in a flight or flight, which can be skin, gut, hormones, you name it, causes autonomic dysregulation.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, itchy nose.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: So, what this does is it contributes to autonomic dysregulation.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: You are out of balance because of these negative perceptions.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: And this also affects your HRV, which is a measure kind of of your resilience and your adaptability.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: It's your heart rate variability.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: If you have an aura ring, you can kind of see yours.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: This is one of my favorite measures for a balanced autonomic function.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: You want higher.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: In this kind of state, you want a higher HRV.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: A higher HRV shows you have a better nervous system, a more regulated autonomic nervous system.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: When you have autonomic dysregulation via lack of self-love and then the trauma, right?
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Because when those parts split, the excess energy is stored in your nervous system and you get symptoms.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Now, we are quick to label symptoms as illness.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: I like to think of it as feedback.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Your body, like I said, wants to heal, it wants to release your trauma.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: It is sending you signals of, hey, this is what's wrong.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: They send you the physical symptom, the exact physical symptom that matches the energetic root of your trauma so that you can fix it.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: It is not meant to be just like a band-aid solution over it and not looked at.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: It is so smart that your body is literally telling you, hey, remember when you were three years old and your power got taken away by your older brother?
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Let me give you this bloated.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's how it works.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously, depending on your symptom, different roots, but that's just an example.
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Your body, star underline that by the way.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Your physical body is constantly sending you feedback, and your physical symptoms are a feedback of your nervous system, your inauthenticity, because remember, lack of self-love again wants to bring you back to wholeness and your trauma.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Your nervous system is a feedback of your inauthenticity, your trauma, your physical symptoms.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Your symptoms are simply a feedback mechanism from the body to let you know that you have deviated from the truth, that you are pure unconditional love, and it's trying to bring you back.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Your symptoms are there because your body is trying to make you release those emotions to bring you back to a state of fullness.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Take that sound mate, please, to my podcast editor, because like that, you need to understand that.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: So there is really nothing to fix.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: I like to say that there's nothing wrong with you, it's more of an unbecoming of everything that's deviated you from the truth of like you are pure unconditional love.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: Like I don't fix you, I just bring you back to who you are.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: So you don't need fixing.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: You need to come back to love.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: And you come back to love by healing all of those traumas where you experience that, that sort of excess energy, and we stop the ameg the amygdala from labeling things as negative by stopping, like you know, the lack of self-love.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: The next little part I want to dive into to really make you understand is that illness is simply the feedback that you are not seeing something.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Quote, keep up with love.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: And the thing is, is that we try to avoid seeing it because our amygdala wants to avoid pain and seek pleasure, which is why it's much easier to reach for a gummy hair vitamin than to sit with the parts that are not feeling rooted and grounded and feeling fear.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: You know, or the guilt from not setting boundaries.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: So you people please.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, I could go on and name every symptom and every specific energy that's tied to it, but you know, that's why I have all my podcast episodes.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, if you go through them, like there is one on hair, and I talk about the hair ones, there is one on gut.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: So go back and like binge watch all, not watch, listen, binge all my episodes to find out what symptoms you have and like what are the roots of that.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: But it's not as easy as popping a supplement.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: And the supplements are great.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: I love supplements, I take them every day.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: However, they are not the only thing, and that's why it's important to also look at these roots.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: So if you feel like you need extra support, look at the emotional roots.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: So, excess energy from the split parts of your trauma manifests as symptoms, not to mention a dysregulated nervous system which causes cytokine storms and flight maturity reactions, you name it.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: The second we have symptoms, we assume that it's an illness instead of a response of feedback to guide us back to love.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Okay, another quote.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: I told you guys, this this episode is gonna be one of my favorites.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: I am on fire, I am like so important.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Listen to this twice.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: We try to find the quick fix or band-aid to cover it up instead of actually understanding, and then we get frustrated either when the quick fix doesn't work or it stops working or gives you a whole host of side effects and other symptoms because you're not actually looking at the root.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: They can be great support while you're fixing the root, thousand percent, and to help you maintain and optimize, but it's both.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: We are a physical body, we are an emotional body, we are an energetic body, and we are a spiritual body.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: To have true health, you cannot neglect either any of them.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: You have to do them all.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: And most people just want to do a physical supplement or something to fix it and not look at the other stuff because it is more tough, it is more unsexy, if you will, it is more painful.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: And me, Magdilla will always choose pleasure over pain.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: So your body and your life are a feedback mechanism guiding you to the authentic you.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: It is actually magnificent when you realize that your body signals through your symptoms your specific emotions and trauma and negative thought patterns to release.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: Insane! Alright, like take this clip, please, Morgan.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: She's my wonderful assistant in life.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Like, when you think about how profound and incredible your body is, it is literally pointing you in that direction.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: You just haven't been given the manual, and that's not your fault, you didn't study this, I think.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: In every moment of your life that there is an imbalance, you end up storing that information in your nervous system.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: But the moment you neutralize and you don't go into systems one thinking of the amygdala, which is the survival center, you're able to release that and it flows.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: So, this is what I do.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: This is like the crux of my work.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: It's about opening the heart to unconditional love, rewiring the nervous system to dissolve that excess energy and bring you back to the homeostasis of unconditional love.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Our symptoms are not bad, they are part of a wellness process, they are functional, communicating information.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: It's just that most people don't get that and aren't equipped with the knowledge of what that is.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: You didn't learn how to interpret them.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: And you know, and if you follow me on Instagram, you know I love to highlight these connections.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: I post them in my content, in my reels, so you can really start to bring awareness because, of course, wellness, well, awareness is the first step.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: And after that, when you're ready to heal, you can jump into a program or one-on-one with me or whatever it is.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: The wisdom of your body is so profound and it knows exactly what it's trying to do.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: You're just trying to cover up the symptoms instead of actually dealing with the symptom means.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Your brain and your nervous system is a love-seeking organism dedicated to you experiencing a life that you love.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: So remember, your symptoms are letting you know that you are in your amygdala operating with the negative valencies, and valencies are simply the pleasant or unpleasantness of an emotional event.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: When you rewire it and start using your executive center, which is also called your appreciation center, you have more resilience, adaptability, and you're able to maintain that homeostasis of pure unconditional love.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: And of course, the profound capacity to do extraordinary things and have an extraordinary life.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: All of the judgments that you make on yourself, these negative perceptions based on what you see, the comparisonitis, the negative self-talk, you know, even labeling your emotions as bad, are weighing you down.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, sometimes literally, sometimes wearing it as weight, literally.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: And every judgment and experience that hasn't been neutralized and brought back to love weighs you down and creates signs and symptoms that you are not being authentic.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: And of course, authenticity is love.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: So anytime you deviate from operating in love, boom, symptoms.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: You are authentic when you set boundaries, when you don't people please, when you allow yourself to be seen, when you love yourself deeply, all of that.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: That's what authenticity means.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Authenticity is you whole, complete, without reservations, without thinking you are bad, wrong, or not as it should be, without, you know, fear of judgment or rejection or abandonment.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: It's you in your purest form, which is love.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: So you can live in mediocrity or you can do something extraordinary.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: And I'm interested in helping people with the extraordinary.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: And that's stuff what I do.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: So I hope this episode was informative for you to really understand trauma, your nervous system, somatic work, and how this ties with the science of unconditional love and self-love.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: How your body is a beautiful mechanism of like knowing exactly what's wrong all the time.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: It's telling you you kind of just need, is it a dictionary with the answers in the back of the chest?
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: You guys know what I mean.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: That book that like tells you the answers.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: That was, you know what I mean.
