- 2:01Speaker 4: We are back after a summer hiatus. Welcome to Still
- 2:07Speaker 4: Comfy Tuesday with Julia and Natalie.
- 2:10Speaker 3: We have missed you all.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and we've missed movies. Yeah, movies. We've missed the
- 2:19Speaker 1: weather being below ninety degrees.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, hi friends.
- 2:24Speaker 4: I'm Julia Washington, your host of pop culture makes me jealous.
- 2:26Speaker 4: We analyze pop culture through the lens of race or gender,
- 2:29Speaker 4: and sometimes both.
- 2:30Speaker 3: As I said, it's Still Comfy Tuesday, and my co host.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Is I'm Natalie Katona. I'm the host and producer of
- 2:37Speaker 1: To All the Men I've Tolerated Before, your weekly look
- 2:41Speaker 1: at every day misogyny and watch everyone I can be
- 2:44Speaker 1: in the chat.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I'm so excited, and we are talking about Freaky Friday.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Freaky Friday.
- 2:53Speaker 4: It is a two thousand and three gem. And let
- 2:56Speaker 4: me tell you about this movie from the Googles. Mother
- 3:00Speaker 4: Tess Coleman and her teenage daughter Anna couldn't be more different,
- 3:05Speaker 4: and it is driving them both insane. After receiving cryptic
- 3:10Speaker 4: fortunes at a Chinese restaurant, the two wake up the
- 3:13Speaker 4: next day to discover that they have somehow switched bodies.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Unable to switch.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Back, they are forced to masquerade as one another until
- 3:22Speaker 4: a solution can be found. In the process, they develop
- 3:26Speaker 4: a new sense of respect and understanding for one another.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Who needs AI when you could hire me?
- 3:32Speaker 1: Well, honestly, did you rewrite that? Because usually we just
- 3:36Speaker 1: rip it straight from Google.
- 3:38Speaker 3: No, that's from Google, and I did it in my
- 3:39Speaker 3: best AI voice.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Oh, you did it in your AI voice. You forgot
- 3:43Speaker 1: to do the weird hands. You got it if and
- 3:46Speaker 1: then you have to go, and then you have to
- 3:47Speaker 1: end every sentence with gangganin. I don't know why. The
- 3:52Speaker 1: gang gain is very important. It's very important to the
- 3:56Speaker 1: AI for tend day.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 4:02Speaker 4: Okay, Natalie, I do have one question for you to
- 4:05Speaker 4: kick off this movie.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Are you ready?
- 4:07Speaker 1: I'm ready?
- 4:08Speaker 3: Or rather this chat?
- 4:10Speaker 1: Okay?
- 4:12Speaker 3: Why do we love this movie?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Why do we love? I love Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Fuck yeah, me too.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I love Jamie Lee Curtis, and I want to spend
- 4:21Speaker 1: every day with Jamie Lee Curtis, and I want her
- 4:23Speaker 1: to be telling everyone to fuck off on my behalf
- 4:26Speaker 1: and I she like a fine wine. She just gets
- 4:31Speaker 1: better and better as she gets older. And like when
- 4:34Speaker 1: I was a kid, Jamie Lee Curtis was like the Yo,
- 4:36Speaker 1: the yogurt lady, the lady who's like, yeah, I eat yogurt,
- 4:40Speaker 1: it'll make you.
- 4:42Speaker 4: And I remember to when she did that campaign where
- 4:46Speaker 4: she was like no touch ups and she was essentially
- 4:48Speaker 4: in like bike shorts and like a sportspra and I
- 4:50Speaker 4: was just like, girl, you look good.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And like my Grandma Peg when she started to go gray,
- 4:56Speaker 1: she was like, I'm just gonna do it. And my
- 4:57Speaker 1: Grandma Peg started going gray, she was like twenty seven
- 5:01Speaker 1: years old.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Holy buckets, that's so young.
- 5:03Speaker 1: M hm. So Jamie Lee Curtis always reminds me of
- 5:08Speaker 1: my grandma. One of the Halloween movies, it wasn't this
- 5:11Speaker 1: last one. It was one before when the house is
- 5:13Speaker 1: on fire, and I was like, this whole movie should
- 5:16Speaker 1: just be the house on fire, but also Michael Myers
- 5:18Speaker 1: is there and you're trying to escape the fire, but
- 5:21Speaker 1: also Michael Myers, and that's not what the movie was.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But my sister says that Jamie Lee Curtis acts just
- 5:27Speaker 1: like Grandma Peg because she's just sitting there like in
- 5:29Speaker 1: a smoky raspy boys being like, we'll never escape Michael
- 5:34Speaker 1: the bastard. She's like, it was given me real Peg energy.
- 5:40Speaker 4: That's so interesting because like, I don't know what you're
- 5:43Speaker 4: talking about when it comes to the Halloween movies.
- 5:46Speaker 3: As you know, I don't do scary.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It was weird.
- 5:52Speaker 4: But I did know of Jamie Lee Curtis before I
- 5:54Speaker 4: saw any of her work, because we are an old
- 5:58Speaker 4: movie's family, and so I saw some like it, some
- 6:02Speaker 4: like it hot, and I knew that Tony Curtis was
- 6:06Speaker 4: her dad, and like I just like so, I knew
- 6:09Speaker 4: about her Hollywood royalty status before I ever had seen
- 6:14Speaker 4: her in a movie.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And let me tell you another reason why I love
- 6:18Speaker 1: this movie. I like seeing Lindsay Lohan. Well, I just like, like.
- 6:23Speaker 4: You know, she's such a gem and she's so talented,
- 6:26Speaker 4: and I think that if I always wonder what would
- 6:30Speaker 4: have been if she had had parents who weren't trying
- 6:34Speaker 4: to live their dreams through their child, what her adult
- 6:37Speaker 4: life could have looked like?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Right? Thanks Dina, Thanks Dina Lohan. I am truly ready
- 6:47Speaker 1: for the Lindsay Lohan sons where she because you know,
- 6:51Speaker 1: she did that Netflix Christmas.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Movie, The Christmas Movie. But I don't know if she
- 6:55Speaker 3: we're gonna get a true.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Renaissance from her because she is married to someone who
- 7:01Speaker 4: has a very not the way that Americans view conservative lifestyle.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Modest, oh, a modest lifestyle.
- 7:10Speaker 4: So I think that's gonna pose limitations on what not
- 7:14Speaker 4: that I'm saying that you have to be risque when
- 7:18Speaker 4: you are an actor, when there's religion modesty involved, That
- 7:22Speaker 4: does sort of change the nature of what your work is.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'd be fine with just a Christmas movie every year.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I found that Christmas movie delightful.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it was cute. What's that kid's name, cord Over Street,
- 7:36Speaker 3: that's it.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I was like, it hit some of the musical from Glee.
- 7:40Speaker 3: From Glee, that's right.
- 7:46Speaker 4: I find that this movie is incredibly delightful regardless of
- 7:52Speaker 4: what age you are.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Yeah, no, do you feel like this movie? This was
- 7:57Speaker 1: the first question I wrote down for you. Do you
- 8:00Speaker 1: feel like that first scene where Jamie Lee Curtis is
- 8:03Speaker 1: juggling trying to plan her rehearsal dinner, like arguing with
- 8:07Speaker 1: the man about fish, shopping for her kids.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Also like my head, I'm sorry I should have closed.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Trying to like figure out whether or not Lindsay Lohan's
- 8:22Speaker 1: coming home that night. Do you feel like this is
- 8:24Speaker 1: one of the more realistic, like actual portraits of single
- 8:30Speaker 1: motherhood that we have.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I do, because I feel like she has her
- 8:36Speaker 4: shit together to an extent, like her hot messness.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Isn't that exists? Isn't because of anything?
- 8:44Speaker 1: That?
- 8:46Speaker 3: What am I trying to say?
- 8:47Speaker 4: I feel like when I was a professional business woman,
- 8:54Speaker 4: this was very relatable.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:57Speaker 4: No, I'm a little annoyed that, like, like, why isn't
- 9:01Speaker 4: your fiance helping more?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Right?
- 9:04Speaker 3: But although it's not a movie about him well.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And like the surprise twist ending where it's like he's
- 9:09Speaker 1: a great guy, I'm like, great, good for him, good
- 9:14Speaker 1: for him being a great guy. I think it falls
- 9:20Speaker 1: short on how real Like I think when it comes
- 9:29Speaker 1: to teeny and Lindsey Lohan, it's so satire and upped
- 9:34Speaker 1: an anti that I'm like, girl, no one shrieks that much.
- 9:36Speaker 1: No one has the time to shriek that much during
- 9:39Speaker 1: their shool.
- 9:39Speaker 3: It's very it's very disney fied.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Yeah, like it is very punched up for Disney that's
- 9:45Speaker 4: for sure.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Absolutely. I couldn't remember was this a movie theater movie
- 9:50Speaker 1: or a straight to Disney movie movie theater movie movie
- 9:53Speaker 1: theater movie. It reads kind of now like a straight
- 9:56Speaker 1: to the Disney Channel movie.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Well, and I think that that this is when did
- 10:00Speaker 4: and He's starting to sort of change how they navigate
- 10:04Speaker 4: what goes in the theater and what goes to Disney Channel,
- 10:07Speaker 4: because yeah, they had Disney Channel content, but they were
- 10:10Speaker 4: really starting to focus in and hone in on like
- 10:14Speaker 4: that tween age. Because also Cheetah Girls came out around
- 10:18Speaker 4: this time, but that was great. Cheat it might have
- 10:23Speaker 4: been Cheata Girls might have been a little bit later,
- 10:25Speaker 4: but like that's this era, right, Like it's like we
- 10:28Speaker 4: are starting to get well maybe because Cheetah Girls might
- 10:31Speaker 4: have been later, because I'm thinking High School.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Musical, well that was like two thousand and seven.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I was.
- 10:39Speaker 3: It's all within that generation. Though.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I was too old to like high school musical
- 10:44Speaker 1: by the time he came out, because I was in
- 10:46Speaker 1: college and I was like, I don't care that zach
- 10:48Speaker 1: Efron really wants to play basketball, no, but.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I too appreciate the evolution of his career. So I
- 10:55Speaker 3: can watch his movies.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Now start from the him now we're here, mm hmm.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Yeah, and so like, I feel like this is definitely
- 11:06Speaker 4: a movie that is intended to be silly and fun
- 11:11Speaker 4: and so in what I don't know if you knew this,
- 11:14Speaker 4: but our friend Chris DeRosa came on to pop Culture
- 11:17Speaker 4: makes Me jealous to talk about this film, and he
- 11:20Speaker 4: commented on just how wonderful it is in so many ways.
- 11:24Speaker 4: And one of the reviews I had found when I
- 11:26Speaker 4: was prepping for that chat. I forget who the reviewer was,
- 11:29Speaker 4: it might have been The New York Times essentially said,
- 11:32Speaker 4: it is a shame that Jamie Lee Curtis will not
- 11:36Speaker 4: be considered for Oscar content, like as an Oscar contender,
- 11:39Speaker 4: because her performance in this movie is flawless and perfect
- 11:44Speaker 4: and so varied with its range.
- 11:46Speaker 3: And when you watch it, you're like, yeah, because she is.
- 11:50Speaker 4: She's got so much going on, it's so believable, and
- 11:53Speaker 4: just the way she go from buttoned up, stuffy mom
- 11:57Speaker 4: who's trying roll hard to be like the best version
- 12:00Speaker 4: of everything with her book and she's a psychologist, right,
- 12:04Speaker 4: and so like there's a certain level of I have
- 12:07Speaker 4: to have my shit together for that, and she and
- 12:10Speaker 4: then to flip to behave like a teenager in the
- 12:14Speaker 4: way that she It's so it's it really takes acting
- 12:18Speaker 4: chops to do something like that so believably well.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And we already got a taste of this from the
- 12:24Speaker 1: parent Trap with My Low Hand. But she's also a
- 12:28Speaker 1: code switcher. She can like immediately be like, oh now
- 12:32Speaker 1: my character is doing this. Oh now I'm an uptype Yeah. Yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 1: And I felt like their physicality and orphan is the
- 12:40Speaker 1: new black. Nope, orphan black. I do it all the time.
- 12:46Speaker 1: How dare those shows come out in the same year?
- 12:49Speaker 1: How dare ever since orban Black. I'm obsessed with the
- 12:54Speaker 1: way that characters who are either playing multiple roles within
- 12:58Speaker 1: the same film or are made to act like there's
- 13:03Speaker 1: someone else or whatever, it will change their body position
- 13:06Speaker 1: and their body structure and their facial expressions on a dime.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Because Tatiana Maslani was perfect that that throughout the entire show.
- 13:17Speaker 1: She was often playing like fifteen people in episode yeah.
- 13:21Speaker 4: And I think it really does speak to the difference
- 13:24Speaker 4: between people who are into that craft of acting versus
- 13:29Speaker 4: people who just want to be in movies or who
- 13:32Speaker 4: just want to be famous, And I think that Jamie
- 13:34Speaker 4: Lee Curtis and Lindsay Loewen were the perfect pairing to
- 13:38Speaker 4: play the mother and daughter duo because in two thousand
- 13:40Speaker 4: and three, when I think about the teenaged actors at
- 13:44Speaker 4: the time, I don't think anybody else could have done it.
- 13:47Speaker 3: And when I think.
- 13:48Speaker 4: About the mom aged actors that existed at the time,
- 13:52Speaker 4: I honestly don't think anybody else could have done it.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Like Goldie Han's a great actress, I don't think she
- 13:58Speaker 4: could have pulled this off.
- 14:00Speaker 1: No, And Goldiehan has a different type of physical comedy
- 14:05Speaker 1: than Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Yes, And then I was thinking about Okay, then I
- 14:08Speaker 4: fell down the First Wives Club, right, I was like, oh,
- 14:10Speaker 4: And then Diane Keaton, It's like no, because there need
- 14:13Speaker 4: there would need to be like a moment where she
- 14:15Speaker 4: screams real loud and has a moment of panic and
- 14:18Speaker 4: then falls down, and and that just doesn't work for
- 14:21Speaker 4: this movie either, because that would then compete with the
- 14:25Speaker 4: teenager storyline.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Correct. Yeah, and I do think that the most interesting
- 14:33Speaker 1: part of this movie is besides the little boy, the grandpa,
- 14:38Speaker 1: and the soon to be stepdad, every other man in
- 14:41Speaker 1: this movie is like such an insult WEIRDO.
- 14:47Speaker 4: I'm glad you brought it up because I have another
- 14:49Speaker 4: question for you for it.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Yeah, oh that's right. One of my first note for
- 14:58Speaker 1: today's episode is I forgot chan Michael Murray was in
- 15:02Speaker 1: this We don't like his hair in this movie better
- 15:07Speaker 1: than Lucas's hair.
- 15:09Speaker 3: It's two thousand and three, so everyone.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Had bad hair, and I feel like it's it's just
- 15:17Speaker 1: Lucas Scott. If Lucas Scott could play guitar. Do you
- 15:23Speaker 1: know what it's Lucas Scott. Do it out o, Jamie
- 15:29Speaker 1: jamiely Oh.
- 15:32Speaker 4: I forgot to remind everybody we don't know that you're
- 15:34Speaker 4: here because we're using a third party streaming source to
- 15:37Speaker 4: get to YouTube. So in order for us to know
- 15:38Speaker 4: that you're here, drop a comment, join in on our conversation,
- 15:42Speaker 4: answer our questions that we're putting up here. Let us
- 15:45Speaker 4: know you're here even if you're watching the replay, because
- 15:48Speaker 4: we still get notified that you commented, and then we
- 15:50Speaker 4: can respond back.
- 15:52Speaker 1: And I'm always online and I will respond back, even
- 15:56Speaker 1: if it's just with the fearless heart. This is my
- 16:00Speaker 1: emoji of the year. Just love yourless heart.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Yes, Okay, back to Chad Michael Murray and playing Lucas
- 16:07Speaker 4: Scott in every film. Do we need to go down
- 16:09Speaker 4: the rabbit hole of his movie catalog with Hallmark to
- 16:13Speaker 4: see if he continues to be Lucas Scott even well
- 16:16Speaker 4: into his adulthood.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Do you remember? Do you remember? It was last Christmas?
- 16:20Speaker 1: I was in a dark place and I was like,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I want to watch a Chad Michael Murray Christmas movie
- 16:25Speaker 1: and they're all on Hallmark. I don't have Hallmark because
- 16:27Speaker 1: I don't have money, and I found one that I
- 16:31Speaker 1: could like watch on Prime or Hulu or something, and
- 16:35Speaker 1: it was when I tell you he was playing an angel,
- 16:40Speaker 1: and I guess he plays this angel in a couple
- 16:42Speaker 1: of these movies. And he was like, you know, you
- 16:46Speaker 1: know when like you know when like people of the
- 16:51Speaker 1: church are trying to be like very calm and not
- 16:54Speaker 1: startle you that they are of the church. So it
- 16:56Speaker 1: was like, why, yes, I would love some huck hoko.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And then like in the US, because he's just trying
- 17:06Speaker 1: to be like holier and like withdrawn from general society.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I think we should go back to playing angels like
- 17:14Speaker 1: John Travolta did in Michael.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Oh my god, that's a callback. I haven't seen that
- 17:19Speaker 3: movie since it released. In the movie.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Theaterestly put it on the list we need to do
- 17:22Speaker 1: John Travilta and Michael a movie that I should do
- 17:27Speaker 1: a Watching Way Too Young?
- 17:28Speaker 4: Well, yeah, because it came out when I was thirteen,
- 17:31Speaker 4: So I was to say we should do a whole
- 17:34Speaker 4: segment series of just movie because then there's City of
- 17:36Speaker 4: Angels with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Have you seen that one.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we're gonna do. We're gonna go real churchy and
- 17:43Speaker 1: just do angel movies.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I don't know, should we I don't know. That's why
- 17:47Speaker 3: we're here.
- 17:48Speaker 4: We're here to talk about Chad Michael Murray falling in
- 17:51Speaker 4: love with Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 17:53Speaker 1: It's weird and that is like, truly, I've been thinking
- 17:57Speaker 1: about this all day. How do you modernize this movie
- 18:00Speaker 1: without having a teenage girl having to pretend to love
- 18:04Speaker 1: her future stepdad in a sexual way and a teenage boy,
- 18:08Speaker 1: like especially when you learn about the grown woman.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Especially when you think about how much better millennials aged
- 18:16Speaker 4: than boomers, because like, have you seen.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Modern day Chad Michael Murray?
- 18:21Speaker 4: I know you have that man is fine, could you
- 18:24Speaker 4: imagine him playing the future stepdad and then like I
- 18:29Speaker 4: don't know what, Sidney Sweeney playing the teenaged girl like
- 18:33Speaker 4: like or even like like Kate Hadson's forty three. Yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 4: so she could be the Jamie Lee Curtis stepmom, right.
- 18:41Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know if she has the acting
- 18:43Speaker 4: capabilities to do it. But like when I think about
- 18:47Speaker 4: just on appearance alone, if they remade this movie, everyone
- 18:53Speaker 4: would just look like.
- 18:55Speaker 3: All the same, all the same that like the teen
- 18:58Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 18:58Speaker 4: It's like wait and then and then everyone's hot in
- 19:01Speaker 4: Hollywood now whereas you know that you know what I mean?
- 19:06Speaker 1: But now, but all I can think about is a
- 19:08Speaker 1: euphoria version of Freaky Friday where it's gritty and Daya's
- 19:13Speaker 1: screaming about drugs in the middle of the street. Sydney
- 19:17Speaker 1: Sweeten or whatever her name is, funk your stepdad and
- 19:19Speaker 1: she has no fucks to give about it.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Like.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Gritty reboot of Freaky Friend.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Because the original original was Jodie Foster, Oh, Jody ninety six.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Or nineteen seventy seven somewhere around there.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I am always floored by how old Jodi Foster is.
- 19:38Speaker 4: I know, and I and when I watched that, when
- 19:41Speaker 4: I watched the original not that long ago, and it
- 19:43Speaker 4: was like, everyone looks exactly how you think they would
- 19:47Speaker 4: look in nineteen seventy six, right, Like dad's kind of
- 19:50Speaker 4: aged but still working and kind of dopey, like like
- 19:55Speaker 4: the mom.
- 19:55Speaker 3: The woman who plays the mom is so beautiful and you're.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Just looking at this couple and you're just like, how
- 20:01Speaker 4: she's gorgeous, and you're there.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I need Phil Dumpy to be in the reboot of
- 20:07Speaker 1: Freaky Friday. That's the only dad that no one's hitting on.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know what, you would have to
- 20:14Speaker 4: source people who are over fifty to play this, if
- 20:17Speaker 4: not more so, because even then, and I told you
- 20:19Speaker 4: this today, I was listening to pog Meat's World and
- 20:21Speaker 4: Mark Paul the Mark Paul Gossler episode, and you know,
- 20:25Speaker 4: in my mind, he's fine and I think he's close
- 20:27Speaker 4: to he'll be fifty next year. Yeah, and he looks
- 20:33Speaker 4: so good.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's because he too has been touched by an angel.
- 20:39Speaker 1: He real churchy. Now, a lot of those eighties sitcom
- 20:43Speaker 1: dudes got real churchy. Who's the growing Pains guy?
- 20:47Speaker 4: Well, that one was always churchy. Oh you're talking about
- 20:50Speaker 4: Candice Cameron's brother, Kirk Cameron.
- 20:51Speaker 1: The Camerons were always cared the Camerons.
- 20:54Speaker 3: The Camerons were all Hollywood.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but yeah, it's it's just so ridiculous to
- 21:06Speaker 1: try and think about this movie in modern day. Because
- 21:10Speaker 1: I did, I had like, I'm like, I don't actually
- 21:15Speaker 1: like and I think it's because Jamie Lee Curtis is
- 21:18Speaker 1: doing it so well and Chad Michael Murray. It is
- 21:22Speaker 1: a fun role to see Chad Michael Murray in because
- 21:25Speaker 1: he's very often not silly, and he was like silly
- 21:29Speaker 1: sappy in this way, right.
- 21:31Speaker 4: And this came out in August of two thousand and three,
- 21:34Speaker 4: and then when did One Tree Hill debut?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Oh, I feel it's either We've looked up the States
- 21:40Speaker 1: so many times.
- 21:41Speaker 4: I know which I mean, and it just says the
- 21:44Speaker 4: WB two thousand and three to two thousand and six
- 21:46Speaker 4: when on the Google.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But oh, I'm gonna go into episodes.
- 21:50Speaker 4: But it's like it's like one of those things where
- 21:52Speaker 4: it's like Chad Michael Murray is clearly like poised to
- 21:55Speaker 4: be an up and coming star because you have this movie.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 3: September September of.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Two thousand and three, so so Freaky Friday came first,
- 22:08Speaker 4: and and this is just you know, you can just see,
- 22:11Speaker 4: like and he did so many movies, right, He did
- 22:14Speaker 4: a Cinderella Story with Hillary duff in two thousand and five,
- 22:18Speaker 4: like he was just gonna be that guy.
- 22:23Speaker 1: He's gonna be that guy. And then I think The
- 22:25Speaker 1: One Tree Hillman ruined it for everybody, like they tried
- 22:28Speaker 1: to do Hillary and Sophia's career. A.
- 22:32Speaker 4: I think so, I really do, because when you think
- 22:34Speaker 4: about like the progression of the One Tree Held cast,
- 22:38Speaker 4: it's like, no one's a major Hollywood film star. No
- 22:43Speaker 4: Bethany Jes Sorry, Bethany's coming out with an album soon
- 22:48Speaker 4: and I can't wait to listen.
- 22:49Speaker 1: It's about strawberries or something. Oh that's cute strawberries and
- 22:53Speaker 1: the title.
- 22:54Speaker 4: But versus like, uh, saved by the bells at the
- 22:59Speaker 4: top of my again, because again I would listen to
- 23:01Speaker 4: the Mark Paul Kostler interview. But like Mario Lopez, he's
- 23:05Speaker 4: not a film star, but he's very prominent and in
- 23:08Speaker 4: everyone's face.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he is everywhere. I I did have to like
- 23:14Speaker 1: turn away from the movie and like look at my
- 23:16Speaker 1: phone or something because I'm like I don't want to
- 23:18Speaker 1: watch to have Michael Murray flirt with Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I don't know why I got prudy dr I was like,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and I do think it's because Jamie Lee Curtis at
- 23:30Speaker 1: any age can drop her face and make herself look
- 23:32Speaker 1: like a teenager in love. And I'm like, it's icky,
- 23:35Speaker 1: and I don't want to watch it.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Did you watch her in The Bear season two?
- 23:41Speaker 4: No?
- 23:41Speaker 1: You know I haven't watched The Bear because every time
- 23:43Speaker 1: I turn it on The Bear, my ADHD says no.
- 23:45Speaker 1: My ADHD is like, we're not paying attention to this.
- 23:49Speaker 3: It is the season two is very slow paced.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And you told I haven't watched season one, and you
- 23:54Speaker 1: told me I have to listen to that show. And
- 23:56Speaker 1: what have I been doing? Every time I'm parked him friend?
- 23:58Speaker 1: The TV i'm playing started val That's all I'm doing. All.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I loved it. I loved it so hard. I just
- 24:11Speaker 3: wanted to put a.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Look it's me. I was like, why did my comment
- 24:13Speaker 1: get highlighted? Everyone? That's an example of how you can
- 24:17Speaker 1: comment on the Live Jewels will probably log off at
- 24:19Speaker 1: some point and comment on that. Maybe it'll be The
- 24:22Speaker 1: Fearless Heart, but should you stumble upon our show on
- 24:26Speaker 1: the good old YouTube and give us a YouTube.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Comment, Give us a YouTube comment, tell us why you
- 24:31Speaker 4: love Freaky Friday. So let's talk about this concept of
- 24:35Speaker 4: a reboot, Like, do you think that.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Disney would attempt a third version at it?
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, here's another thing that I think we're slowly distancing
- 24:48Speaker 1: ourselves from. And there's not actually that clear cut line
- 24:52Speaker 1: in between a middle aged mother and her hormone rampant teenager.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I feel like in a lot of film and TV,
- 25:04Speaker 1: we're not getting that there's just a fifteen year old
- 25:08Speaker 1: in my house shrieking at me all the time. And
- 25:11Speaker 1: to be fair, that was not my teenage experience. My
- 25:15Speaker 1: mom and I would have like one blow up a month.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I would lock myself in my room and then I
- 25:19Speaker 1: told you, she'd just scratch on my door to be like,
- 25:23Speaker 1: what if we ate Ben and Jerry's and watched Lost?
- 25:26Speaker 1: By the way, her Lost was a toxic r Yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 4: You know what's interesting though, is, similarly to you, I
- 25:34Speaker 4: also didn't have like a shrieking relationship with my mom.
- 25:37Speaker 4: We would have one blow up and then go for
- 25:41Speaker 4: froyo or watch a movie. But what's interesting to me
- 25:44Speaker 4: about the Lindsay Lohan character in this movie is how
- 25:47Speaker 4: she is so alternative but cak rock.
- 25:52Speaker 3: She's so punk rock.
- 25:53Speaker 4: But yet they there is something about her that really
- 25:56Speaker 4: isn't punk rock.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Well, it's very much her. Well it's a Disney punk rock,
- 26:02Speaker 1: so it's camp rock punk rock, right, So I feel
- 26:06Speaker 1: like Demi Levado wears the same costume. And also I
- 26:15Speaker 1: don't think until probably now because I am not a rewatcher,
- 26:19Speaker 1: so who knows, when's the last time I watched this film?
- 26:21Speaker 1: Was clearly the punk rock stuff is just a coping
- 26:25Speaker 1: mechanism for her dad being dead. She's really just mad
- 26:30Speaker 1: at her mom because her dad died.
- 26:33Speaker 4: That's interesting as a reformed in appearance punk rock roll
- 26:37Speaker 4: because I will always love you punk rock. Though there
- 26:43Speaker 4: are some bands now that I'm just like, oh my
- 26:45Speaker 4: ears are old, I can't but but there are a
- 26:48Speaker 4: handful of bands like I'm gonna go see one later
- 26:50Speaker 4: this year and I'm really fucking excited that I still
- 26:54Speaker 4: will listen to on repeat when I'm in the mood.
- 26:58Speaker 3: But like, there is.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Something about the way, and maybe that's it because she's
- 27:03Speaker 4: using it as a mechanism, so she's gonna just grow
- 27:06Speaker 4: out of it, as opposed to those of us who
- 27:09Speaker 4: I don't live a punk rock lifestyle anymore because I
- 27:11Speaker 4: really like showering and having You.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Know, what are you trying to make punk rock people
- 27:17Speaker 1: feel like today when you're like, I really like showering.
- 27:21Speaker 1: We're not even allowed to call out nerds anymore at
- 27:24Speaker 1: gen Con for not showering, and they camp in lines
- 27:27Speaker 1: to buy Disney carts.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Okay, stand corrected.
- 27:30Speaker 4: I'm specifically referring to gutter punks. I went to a
- 27:32Speaker 4: funeral a year ago, and I was shocked by how
- 27:35Speaker 4: many of my punk rock friends were still in the
- 27:38Speaker 4: punk rock way of life. Because then there was like
- 27:42Speaker 4: me and the person I went with and one other person,
- 27:45Speaker 4: and we looked like professional.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Adults at a funeral. So I just said that on life.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Oh what was I gonna say? Though? Oh?
- 27:58Speaker 3: No, save me that life.
- 28:00Speaker 1: So I think there were a lot of callbacks to
- 28:03Speaker 1: I guess her former life. I just thought that her
- 28:06Speaker 1: mom was up that pretty girl's ass, because like their
- 28:09Speaker 1: moms were friends or something. But then I realized, like, no,
- 28:12Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan and this girl used to be friends. Then
- 28:15Speaker 1: her dad died. Teenagers do not have the emotional intelligence
- 28:20Speaker 1: to deal with a death. I barely know what to
- 28:23Speaker 1: do when my friend's parents die. I just sit here
- 28:26Speaker 1: and go do you need to scream? You want to cry?
- 28:30Speaker 1: You want to just go get sushi? Death is not
- 28:33Speaker 1: something that we handle well over here in the States.
- 28:36Speaker 1: And so then I was like, Oh, Lindsay Lohan saw
- 28:41Speaker 1: this mean bitch, and she's like, I want to be
- 28:43Speaker 1: this mean bitch's friend's friend anymore. And she got hooked
- 28:47Speaker 1: up with these two alternative kids and they honestly, the
- 28:50Speaker 1: rock band was good.
- 28:52Speaker 3: It was impressively good, and.
- 28:54Speaker 1: At least singer deserves a career. Yeah, where's she at?
- 28:59Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 29:01Speaker 4: And I meant to look it up to see if
- 29:02Speaker 4: she was a ringer, because I remember on Disney used
- 29:04Speaker 4: to just like poach music like real talent and then
- 29:08Speaker 4: just plug them into their stuff.
- 29:09Speaker 1: And I was like, did they do that with this person?
- 29:12Speaker 3: Because I feel like that could be true.
- 29:14Speaker 1: No, Well, in Disney, also like, did Lindsay Lohan want
- 29:18Speaker 1: to be a song or a singer? Who knows? But
- 29:21Speaker 1: she has a single at the end of this movie,
- 29:24Speaker 1: and she sat in her Confessions of a Drama Queen.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Didn't she have an album all albums, Like.
- 29:33Speaker 1: That's my point. Do they want an album or did
- 29:36Speaker 1: Disney just go that part of it? It's Disney boot Camp.
- 29:40Speaker 1: You will be good at everything. Yeah, Yeah, we're gonna
- 29:43Speaker 1: have to stunt cast you with Cinderella when we revised
- 29:46Speaker 1: Cinderella on Broadway for the eightieth time. Yeah.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's maybe that's why she doesn't feel like true
- 29:58Speaker 4: to the punk rock experience and way because she like
- 30:02Speaker 4: because of her former life. Because back to your point
- 30:05Speaker 4: of the shrieking shrieking, none of us did that.
- 30:11Speaker 1: In my.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Group was you know, a pretty healthy mix of boys
- 30:15Speaker 4: and girls, and none of us girls shrieked at our moms. Like,
- 30:18Speaker 4: we're not wu girls, We're not shriekers. You know, we
- 30:22Speaker 4: get excited and it's very contained.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah, hit us up in the comments if you shrieked
- 30:28Speaker 1: at your mom a lot, like and every day, no
- 30:31Speaker 1: one understands me. I hit my mom. She tried to
- 30:35Speaker 1: get me to eat frosted flakes. I want lucky charms.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Kind of bitchy teenage way, Where are all these bitchy teenagers?
- 30:43Speaker 1: I would like to know. I was like hanging out
- 30:45Speaker 1: with them. That sounds stressful.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Yeah, same.
- 30:48Speaker 4: And I think that's why I liked like Peyton and
- 30:51Speaker 4: why I was so upset with the way that they
- 30:53Speaker 4: sort of changed her in season four, because in seasons one, two,
- 30:57Speaker 4: and three, it felt very much like, Yeah, this is
- 30:59Speaker 4: the girl I'm running into it.
- 31:00Speaker 3: The scene that I'm gonna get that, I'm gonna.
- 31:02Speaker 4: That, I like, you know that we're gonna vibe and
- 31:04Speaker 4: we're gonna become friends and we're gonna exchange records and
- 31:07Speaker 4: we're gonna talk about music, and we're gonna have our.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Moody moody moody moody moody, you.
- 31:13Speaker 4: Know, kind of in a subdued, quiet way, and then
- 31:17Speaker 4: it's gonna come out through our.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Art as opposed to yelling at my mom.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Now, I would modernize this movie and like kind of
- 31:24Speaker 1: combine Freaky Friday with a little bit of The Banner Sisters,
- 31:27Speaker 1: where it's like Lindsay Lohan is like kind of a
- 31:32Speaker 1: punk rock chick and she thinks that her mom's just
- 31:35Speaker 1: like a stuck up prick, and then she starts to
- 31:38Speaker 1: uncover because they do the switcheroo all of the talents
- 31:42Speaker 1: her mom set aside in order to be a single mom. Yeah,
- 31:48Speaker 1: because honestly, I think the movie does fall short on
- 31:52Speaker 1: actually making it. So they switch back because now they
- 31:55Speaker 1: have common ground, like Jamie Lee Curtis plays guitar and
- 32:02Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan is like, sure, marry my mom, and then
- 32:05Speaker 1: they switch back. But I really think that the story
- 32:08Speaker 1: could have done so much more in the realm of
- 32:11Speaker 1: actually learning about one another instead of leaning into these
- 32:15Speaker 1: like really comedic slapstick like well, I'm I have to
- 32:20Speaker 1: play therapist on Good Morning America now, and I am
- 32:24Speaker 1: going to take this high school test and really struggle
- 32:28Speaker 1: at it and all of that stuff.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it's almost like if you take Freaky Friday, Yes,
- 32:34Speaker 4: make it a little give it a little grit, but
- 32:36Speaker 4: then also make it a mini series so we can
- 32:39Speaker 4: do some serious character development. Yeah, like like a limited
- 32:44Speaker 4: like a yeah, a limited series, and it doesn't need
- 32:47Speaker 4: a second season. That doesn't need to happen. It's just
- 32:49Speaker 4: a quick However, many episodes.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Take out the ancient Chinese magic.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Yeah, Chris and I talked about how like that just
- 33:00Speaker 4: felt a little icky because it's like, what because especially
- 33:04Speaker 4: in the original, that's not part of the original at all.
- 33:07Speaker 1: No, isn't it like a thunderstorm or something, or do
- 33:10Speaker 1: they just wake up. They hated each other so much
- 33:12Speaker 1: they switched bodies.
- 33:14Speaker 4: They thought about it at the same time, and like
- 33:18Speaker 4: some magic happened and they and then it's and then
- 33:21Speaker 4: it was they woke up the next day.
- 33:23Speaker 1: So I tell you about the Sunnians. In the eighties,
- 33:25Speaker 1: they were wild about body swap movies.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Yeah, they loved body swap movies.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Do you remember that really creepy movie where Robert Downey
- 33:32Speaker 1: Junior is dead but he swaps into his daughter's boyfriend's
- 33:39Speaker 1: body and then what they are you talking about? It's
- 33:44Speaker 1: a movie. It's a movie. It has a very young
- 33:47Speaker 1: Robert Downey Junior in it, and it was.
- 33:50Speaker 3: In the eight in the eighties.
- 33:52Speaker 1: Yeah, the dad dies, the dad dies, and Robert Downey
- 33:56Speaker 1: Junior is so young he can play like a college
- 33:58Speaker 1: teen and and the day Johnny be good. Maybe no,
- 34:07Speaker 1: And the day because I've seen Johnny all the fucked
- 34:11Speaker 1: up movies, all the movies were grown up, is kind
- 34:14Speaker 1: of fucking a teenager. But it's fine because it's the
- 34:16Speaker 1: ghost of her dead husband. That was a movie on
- 34:19Speaker 1: TV and I watched it.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, I'm looking at his cattle at
- 34:24Speaker 4: the his IMDb now, because I'm like, I need to
- 34:28Speaker 4: know this is so weird.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Maybe we need to like we can do still comfy,
- 34:33Speaker 1: but like once a month, we should be like movies
- 34:35Speaker 1: that we didn't really think existed, but and we thought
- 34:39Speaker 1: we made up.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Movies that were confident are real.
- 34:43Speaker 1: But movies that people tell me are fake. But I
- 34:46Speaker 1: know I've seen them, like the Polar Bear Kane. Oh
- 34:50Speaker 1: my gosh, no one's seen the Polar Bear Kinge. Just me.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Just me, but yeah, just like I I don't know
- 35:05Speaker 1: if it was because I was distracted because I was
- 35:07Speaker 1: accomplishing a lot today or whatever, but I had a
- 35:10Speaker 1: hard time leaning into the humor of it. Maybe it
- 35:14Speaker 1: was my summertime sadness. Yeah, I like, I just like,
- 35:20Speaker 1: I don't know, if I just needed a little bit
- 35:23Speaker 1: more of them actually, like discovering things about one another
- 35:28Speaker 1: to where I was having to pay attention because as
- 35:31Speaker 1: we know, I can like take or leave some things
- 35:36Speaker 1: and then I've stopped paying attention because I'm like, oh,
- 35:38Speaker 1: this is an easy joke. I've stopped paying attention. Sure,
- 35:43Speaker 1: but that's Disney, I know, It's Disney No. And as
- 35:47Speaker 1: I turned on the movie, I realized that I was
- 35:49Speaker 1: more of a Amanda Bynes teen movie watcher and not
- 35:54Speaker 1: so much of a Lindsay Lohan.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Okay, I do that.
- 35:59Speaker 4: I do under stand because I if you wanted to
- 36:02Speaker 4: cover every single movie that Amanda Bynes did, I'm in okay.
- 36:06Speaker 4: I've seen them all one hundred thousand times. Amanda vines
- 36:10Speaker 4: and What a Girl Wants is probably my favorite one,
- 36:12Speaker 4: one of what one of What Girl ones is absolutely
- 36:15Speaker 4: the best one.
- 36:16Speaker 1: What would be the other best one? She's the man,
- 36:19Speaker 1: He's the man.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Is fun. I don't know if it holds up, but
- 36:22Speaker 3: she's the man.
- 36:25Speaker 1: There there was let's see Sydney White.
- 36:30Speaker 3: White, I don't know. I don't know about Sidney White.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I also was Amanda Bynes in the What I Like
- 36:37Speaker 1: About You Show with Jenny Garth. Yes, I loved that show.
- 36:41Speaker 1: That was such a good fucking show.
- 36:43Speaker 3: You know, What a Girl Wants came out in two
- 36:44Speaker 3: thousand and three as well.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I love the Amanda Show.
- 36:52Speaker 3: The Amanda Show is good.
- 36:54Speaker 1: I what movie Tod Robert Downey Junior star and where
- 36:58Speaker 1: he body Swaps? That's like that literally could be an
- 37:02Speaker 1: Iron Man movie, you had to put and then he
- 37:04Speaker 1: fucks his life in a teenager's body. That's what you
- 37:11Speaker 1: have to put so people understand.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Body swap in iron Man.
- 37:16Speaker 1: That could be any of the Avengers movies. Those Avenger
- 37:19Speaker 1: movies get wild. Well, I don't I don't know.
- 37:24Speaker 4: I just feel like YouTube punishes you for cussing and
- 37:28Speaker 4: stuff problem And I actually think I have it set
- 37:31Speaker 4: up on my channel that like extreme cussing is blocked.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Oh remember correctly? Well, I think what does Critical Role
- 37:39Speaker 1: try to tell me every Thursday when one of them
- 37:41Speaker 1: cusses during the ads? I think you have to get
- 37:43Speaker 1: through the first minute or like the first three minutes,
- 37:47Speaker 1: like there's a timeline to where they will flag you anymore.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Got it? Okay, good to know you could weigh in.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Yeah, we're desperate to know.
- 37:57Speaker 4: So you're thirty six minutes into this live broadcast. I
- 38:02Speaker 4: do kind of want to go back to what you
- 38:06Speaker 4: were talking about though, about the depths or the lack
- 38:08Speaker 4: of the depth of the relationship building and understanding. Yeah,
- 38:15Speaker 4: because how how I don't have a daughter.
- 38:19Speaker 3: I was a daughter, I am a daughter.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I am a daughter. I am a daughter.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and I always wonder because it was for me,
- 38:29Speaker 4: it was really easy to build a relationship with my son,
- 38:33Speaker 4: and it's been really easy to maintain that relationship with
- 38:36Speaker 4: my son. We did not go through if he had
- 38:39Speaker 4: maybe two months out of his entire existence where it
- 38:43Speaker 4: was like that stereotypical you know what you're talking about,
- 38:47Speaker 4: mom's door slam, I hate you kind of shit.
- 38:49Speaker 3: But it didn't last long.
- 38:51Speaker 4: And I know that some people experience that regularly with
- 38:57Speaker 4: their children, and I don't know why.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Well, And as you know, I am.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Child fleurious, but I'm not talking about him.
- 39:06Speaker 1: On the life. I'm child free. But I was a
- 39:10Speaker 1: daughter and I am a daughter. I think my mom
- 39:14Speaker 1: was the blocker of all that bullshit, Like I think
- 39:16Speaker 1: my other parental unit would try to be wild and
- 39:20Speaker 1: be like, you're curfew seven point thirty, I can't believe
- 39:23Speaker 1: you gave her the keys to the car all of that,
- 39:25Speaker 1: and my mom would just be like, calm down, yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 1: Because my mom was a hot girl. She loved to
- 39:30Speaker 1: do hot girl shit, so she all she wanted in
- 39:33Speaker 1: life was for me to be a fellow hot girl.
- 39:36Speaker 1: And I was hideous in high school and therefore she
- 39:39Speaker 1: was just like if someone invited namily out. You just
- 39:42Speaker 1: let her fucking go. Just let her go. He would
- 39:46Speaker 1: just have to let her go. Let her have friends.
- 39:49Speaker 1: My god, we didn't think she could do it, but
- 39:51Speaker 1: she did. Oh, now I have all the rare is
- 39:55Speaker 1: making friends. Yeah, but I am very fascinated because I mean,
- 40:00Speaker 1: maybe my friends were yelling at their moms when I
- 40:04Speaker 1: wasn't there, but like literally, like I knew every one
- 40:08Speaker 1: of my friend's moms, and we never shrieked at them.
- 40:11Speaker 1: We would crank at them. Yeah, it's just drink them.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Like one time, go ahead, sorry, one time, my friend's
- 40:21Speaker 1: mom she bought a fur coat, because every once in
- 40:25Speaker 1: a while, you just need to treat yourself. We lived
- 40:28Speaker 1: in northwest Indiana. We were like, where are you wearing
- 40:30Speaker 1: the fur coat? Too? Where are you going the jewel,
- 40:35Speaker 1: like the grocery store where the decadence And she would
- 40:39Speaker 1: she would leave and she'd look us both in the
- 40:41Speaker 1: eye and she'd be like, you two, do not fuck
- 40:45Speaker 1: with my fur. And now I can't hear brass monkey,
- 40:49Speaker 1: that funky monkey without picturing my best friend and I
- 40:54Speaker 1: in her mother's furs, damn, saying to brass. And she
- 41:01Speaker 1: came home and she found us like that, and she
- 41:03Speaker 1: cussed us and we left. She still took us to
- 41:06Speaker 1: Wicked later that year. So I don't know, like every
- 41:10Speaker 1: day is a winding road with your mom's.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Yeah, And it's almost like, and we've had this conversation
- 41:15Speaker 4: before in the past and other arenas. It's almost like
- 41:18Speaker 4: moms sometimes forget that their children are their own person
- 41:24Speaker 4: and so like sometimes the way one parents it's based
- 41:27Speaker 4: in the expectation that they will turn out the way
- 41:29Speaker 4: that you tell them to turn out, rather than you
- 41:32Speaker 4: listening to what your children are telling you about them themselves.
- 41:37Speaker 4: And this is I feel like a situation whee where
- 41:41Speaker 4: Jamielee Curtis's character is like, this is the way you're
- 41:43Speaker 4: supposed to be, why are you not this way? And
- 41:46Speaker 4: then Lindsay Lowens is like, I'm so mad that you
- 41:49Speaker 4: don't see me for me, which is every teen hangsty setup.
- 41:55Speaker 4: But like to your point, it's a very Disney wrap
- 41:58Speaker 4: up for them to come to understanding. Like like, so,
- 42:02Speaker 4: so Lindsay Lohan plays the guitar off stage, and then
- 42:05Speaker 4: now Jamie Lee Curtis understands how talented she is. When
- 42:08Speaker 4: the girl has been practicing in the base in the
- 42:11Speaker 4: garage for how many months?
- 42:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and she could clearly hear it.
- 42:15Speaker 1: And and also like, I'm not saying that my mom
- 42:21Speaker 1: and dad were the most emotionally intelligent people. God knows,
- 42:24Speaker 1: I'm never gonna make that assumption, but like should I
- 42:28Speaker 1: have found myself shrieking because I used to be an
- 42:33Speaker 1: unmedicated person in a home like my my mom and
- 42:38Speaker 1: my aunt, my favorite aunt, they're very much people like
- 42:41Speaker 1: why aren't you more chill? Like why can't you just
- 42:44Speaker 1: chill out? Which again I love telling people who are
- 42:46Speaker 1: in the middle of an episode, like have you ever
- 42:48Speaker 1: tried breathing? Like just calm down? But like so again. Also,
- 42:53Speaker 1: my mom was pretty successful at actually making me involved
- 42:57Speaker 1: in her interests. We were both big readers. Yeah, and
- 43:00Speaker 1: them loves color theory, we love to decorate, We love
- 43:04Speaker 1: to craft. My dad loves dungeons and dragons. Like, my
- 43:08Speaker 1: parents did a pretty good job just assimilating me into
- 43:10Speaker 1: their interests.
- 43:12Speaker 4: You know what, mine too, because both of my parents
- 43:15Speaker 4: big time readers. My mom was very artsy and ye,
- 43:20Speaker 4: music my dad love I mean, they both love movies,
- 43:23Speaker 4: but family Film Night is one hundred percent from my dad. Yeah,
- 43:27Speaker 4: music is one hundred percent like pop music. Pop culture
- 43:30Speaker 4: music is one hundred percent for my dad. So what
- 43:33Speaker 4: we're saying all music is one hundred percent for my mom.
- 43:35Speaker 1: So what we're saying is tests. And the movie should
- 43:37Speaker 1: have been more interesting, she should have had more hobbies,
- 43:42Speaker 1: which I think is a bigger like, it's a bigger
- 43:45Speaker 1: message because like Tess woke up one day a widow
- 43:49Speaker 1: and she had these two kids, one of which was
- 43:51Speaker 1: shrieking all the time, and she had to hold down
- 43:54Speaker 1: a job, she had to write a book, she had
- 43:56Speaker 1: to find some man.
- 43:58Speaker 4: I also think it is a test to on, you know,
- 44:02Speaker 4: building a relationship with your children for you, because it
- 44:06Speaker 4: was clear that the primary relationship was daddy daughter. Yes,
- 44:13Speaker 4: and I don't think that's healthy either, because what happens
- 44:15Speaker 4: when one of you dies?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Well, yeah, everyone should like their kids. You Friday, right,
- 44:21Speaker 1: creaky Friday. Oh you've done dead body swap in.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Everyone should like their kids. Everyone should like disappointed when
- 44:31Speaker 4: people don't like.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Their kids in the comments everyone.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Everyone should everyone please like your children. Everyone on tikok
- 44:41Speaker 3: like your kids.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Like your kids. Even when you don't like your kids,
- 44:47Speaker 1: find one reason to tell them you like them today,
- 44:52Speaker 1: even if you don't even if you're looking at them,
- 44:55Speaker 1: and you're like, I fucking would love to squish this
- 44:59Speaker 1: time head in, but by bedtime feel like I really
- 45:05Speaker 1: like that we both like the ocean, all right? I did, Yeah,
- 45:08Speaker 1: because it.
- 45:08Speaker 4: Doesn't It never made any sense to me when people
- 45:10Speaker 4: are just so flabbergasted by their children. I'm like, but
- 45:13Speaker 4: they lived in your house for twenty years. People with interests,
- 45:20Speaker 4: like how do you not know your like what it's
- 45:25Speaker 4: like how my dad just throws his hands up in
- 45:27Speaker 4: the air every time I talk about.
- 45:28Speaker 1: My show or like this show, or like he watched
- 45:33Speaker 1: me at gen Con Network with a bunch of people
- 45:35Speaker 1: and like make friends with people. And he's like, I
- 45:37Speaker 1: just don't even know what you do with your day
- 45:39Speaker 1: all day And I'm like, I watch Disney Plus, I
- 45:41Speaker 1: watch Freaky Friday, and I take notes on my phone.
- 45:46Speaker 1: That's what I do with my day. Yeah, And I
- 45:50Speaker 1: meditate and I think of reasons to be pissed off
- 45:53Speaker 1: about men in misogyny. Yeah, and that's what I do
- 45:58Speaker 1: with my day, dad, But it is, it's like this
- 46:02Speaker 1: weird and I feel like we were fed that narrative
- 46:05Speaker 1: a lot about like our parents just don't understand we
- 46:08Speaker 1: have hormones.
- 46:09Speaker 4: It's still perpetuated too, because when I watch stuff now
- 46:12Speaker 4: that's geared towards teens, and my whole hang.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Up in that is no. But we we fixed that.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Yeah, we as elder millennials who have children have fixed that.
- 46:24Speaker 4: And then I go and spend time with my peers
- 46:27Speaker 4: who have children and realize it I fixed it and
- 46:30Speaker 4: no one else.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Everyone. It's like when it's like when I'm.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Michael, you can't break. It's inevitable.
- 46:39Speaker 1: It's like when I run into a person in my
- 46:42Speaker 1: age bracket and they're a conservative, and I'm like, why
- 46:44Speaker 1: would you choose that? How did that have everything we've
- 46:47Speaker 1: lived through. The ocean is boiling. You just want to
- 46:51Speaker 1: be denial about that? Right? The orcos are mad? We're mad.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Actually beg to the trench. Over the week I was
- 47:00Speaker 1: on Meg's side, I was like, that shark was just
- 47:04Speaker 1: underneath a part of the ozone of the ocean that
- 47:06Speaker 1: we had not seen, if the false bottom of the ocean,
- 47:10Speaker 1: and he didn't want to be here. He didn't want
- 47:12Speaker 1: to he was in his own part of the ocean.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And we fucked around and we found we found out
- 47:18Speaker 1: and that's and and and that's the moral of Jurassic Park.
- 47:22Speaker 1: That's the moral of Planet of the Apes. We fucked
- 47:24Speaker 1: around and we found out. But conservative, I guess, I
- 47:31Speaker 1: guess I don't get it. I also like, as you know,
- 47:35Speaker 1: as a person who gets to live on the periphery
- 47:38Speaker 1: of people who are parenting but not actually have to
- 47:41Speaker 1: actively parent, I'm constantly like, oh, you're really gonna care
- 47:45Speaker 1: about that? Okay. I would just let the kid play
- 47:49Speaker 1: with the dice until he was ready to move on.
- 47:52Speaker 3: You know.
- 47:52Speaker 4: It's funny about that when my son got like old
- 47:56Speaker 4: enough to like explore on his own bill like like
- 47:59Speaker 4: as a neighbor child or whatever, and my parents would
- 48:02Speaker 4: just be like whatever about it.
- 48:03Speaker 3: And it was just like, you.
- 48:04Speaker 4: Guys, never you would never let us like the freedom
- 48:07Speaker 4: this child has is a grandchild.
- 48:09Speaker 3: We never ever. And my mom said to me, she goes, well,
- 48:13Speaker 3: you get to a point where you realize your kids
- 48:15Speaker 3: survived and they probably would have survived had you not
- 48:19Speaker 3: been that strict.
- 48:21Speaker 1: My parents never knew where I was. I've asked them.
- 48:24Speaker 1: I was like, would you like to know the activities
- 48:26Speaker 1: that I used to complete in the woods before I
- 48:29Speaker 1: had a cell phone? And you did not know that
- 48:30Speaker 1: I was in the woods well, and my mom was been, no.
- 48:33Speaker 3: Don't misunderstand me.
- 48:35Speaker 4: There was definitely a lot of like, yeah, we're going
- 48:37Speaker 4: to the movie's mom, and it wasn't.
- 48:40Speaker 3: That's not where we were.
- 48:41Speaker 1: My parents never know where it was.
- 48:43Speaker 4: But my son was like eight or nine when she
- 48:45Speaker 4: told me that, and that like released me from this
- 48:49Speaker 4: idea that I had to hold on to some sort
- 48:54Speaker 4: of like perceived parenting style that we all have to do.
- 49:00Speaker 4: And it was like, oh, yeah, he's it's gonna be fine.
- 49:02Speaker 4: Trust your kid, and I tell him that all the time.
- 49:05Speaker 4: I trust you. I do not trust the rest of
- 49:07Speaker 4: the world. So like you could do all the things
- 49:10Speaker 4: that you need to do to survive and come home
- 49:12Speaker 4: safely and all that stuff, the rest of the world
- 49:14Speaker 4: doesn't give a shit that somebody's at home caring, like
- 49:17Speaker 4: worried about you and caring.
- 49:19Speaker 3: For you and you know, praying to full moons for you.
- 49:21Speaker 4: Like they don't give a shit that I gave up
- 49:23Speaker 4: twenty years of my life to make sure that you
- 49:26Speaker 4: grew up to be, you know, a happy, healthy adult
- 49:30Speaker 4: in college. Like, but you, I trust so like it
- 49:34Speaker 4: has nothing And I had to make that very clear
- 49:35Speaker 4: to him. It has nothing to do with you. Is
- 49:38Speaker 4: everything to do with the fact that I know the
- 49:40Speaker 4: world does not give a shit that you are loved.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Right, hear that everybody the world does not give a
- 49:47Speaker 1: shit that you are loved. The oceans are boiling, the
- 49:51Speaker 1: orcas are mad, the otters are stealing surfboards. The end
- 49:58Speaker 1: is not is what I'm saying, Like, it's still ninety
- 50:02Speaker 1: degrees out, and I would like to know why.
- 50:06Speaker 4: The other part of it, too, I know, because the
- 50:09Speaker 4: earth is mad. The other part of it too is
- 50:10Speaker 4: I always operated in the sense of like, I want
- 50:14Speaker 4: you to want to come home to visit me. Yeah,
- 50:17Speaker 4: I want you to want to be like, you know what,
- 50:19Speaker 4: I haven't seen my mom in a while, Like, let
- 50:22Speaker 4: me go visit and I and I think watching Freaky Friday.
- 50:29Speaker 1: You're like Jamie Lee.
- 50:30Speaker 3: Do you even like your children well?
- 50:32Speaker 1: And does she have time you like her children?
- 50:34Speaker 4: Do you even like care that your daughter's hurting? You're
- 50:38Speaker 4: a therapist, you should care well.
- 50:40Speaker 1: And again, I think that blends into the weird realm
- 50:45Speaker 1: of gen X boomer mothers who is like I accidentally
- 50:50Speaker 1: may have said out loud to my mother that she
- 50:53Speaker 1: ruined her own life by having me, and then she
- 50:56Speaker 1: had to explain to me that that is not how
- 50:58Speaker 1: she felt. Oh that was like, yeah, I just tell people, like,
- 51:02Speaker 1: you know, my mom was doing hot girl shit and
- 51:04Speaker 1: then she had me too early in her marriage, ruined
- 51:06Speaker 1: her life. And my mom's like that No. I was like,
- 51:10Speaker 1: oh is that an ah, That's how I perceived everyone felt.
- 51:13Speaker 1: So you know, we worked through it. We worked through
- 51:18Speaker 1: it like everything.
- 51:20Speaker 3: You did fine, at least it was out there.
- 51:23Speaker 1: But you and I talk a lot about how our
- 51:25Speaker 1: mothers didn't actually have the choice to be anything but
- 51:28Speaker 1: our mothers. So I grew up on home where my
- 51:32Speaker 1: mother was constantly going through a career change to try
- 51:35Speaker 1: and find what it is that she actually wanted to
- 51:37Speaker 1: do with her life. And I do believe it's because
- 51:42Speaker 1: she went to school not actually knowing what she wanted
- 51:44Speaker 1: to do with her life, because she was eighteen and
- 51:47Speaker 1: she had all of this, like life before that that
- 51:51Speaker 1: was filled with trauma and feelings and growing up too
- 51:54Speaker 1: soon and all of it. And I get that vibe
- 51:57Speaker 1: from Jamie Lee Curtis where it's like, you know, you know,
- 52:01Speaker 1: every once in a while, because you know, my Grandpa
- 52:03Speaker 1: died young. My grandpa died young, and every once in
- 52:07Speaker 1: a while and I'm like, you know, Grandma Peck probably
- 52:09Speaker 1: loved Grandpa every moment of every day, except for that
- 52:14Speaker 1: one hour of the day maybe as she laid her
- 52:17Speaker 1: down to sleep where she went, fuck that fucker for
- 52:20Speaker 1: dying on me. Because you never expect to actually be
- 52:23Speaker 1: a widow. Divorce maybe, but a widow, huh uh.
- 52:28Speaker 3: And it changes the game a little bit too, because
- 52:30Speaker 3: at least when you're divorced, you sort of share custody
- 52:33Speaker 3: or there's some sort of splitting of the care in
- 52:36Speaker 3: theory that's not always true.
- 52:38Speaker 1: You can tell someone to be like, you're bestard children today.
- 52:43Speaker 4: And if you have, you know, custody split fifty to fifty,
- 52:46Speaker 4: then you get you get respite, right, someone taps in,
- 52:49Speaker 4: someone else taps in, But you're right.
- 52:52Speaker 3: When you are a widow, there is no respite.
- 52:55Speaker 4: And even in two thousand and three, because if you'll recall,
- 52:58Speaker 4: I became a parent following year, even in that era,
- 53:03Speaker 4: it still was very hard for women to be successful
- 53:06Speaker 4: as single women, as single mothers.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Well, and I can't and again I've only known well,
- 53:15Speaker 1: I've known several widows. But I've only known one widow
- 53:19Speaker 1: who then had to raise teenagers and young children after
- 53:23Speaker 1: the widow, Wyane, And I can't imagine what it's like
- 53:30Speaker 1: to have society tell you all the time that women
- 53:33Speaker 1: are dramatic and yvery emotional, and they're crazy, and they
- 53:38Speaker 1: should be quiet and they should be pleasant and they
- 53:41Speaker 1: should smile more. And then to have the person that
- 53:44Speaker 1: you were going to build a life with die and
- 53:47Speaker 1: then you have to shut that part of your brain
- 53:50Speaker 1: off because your kids are crying about it, right, And
- 53:54Speaker 1: then that like that feeling of like moving on and
- 53:59Speaker 1: now your kids are crying about that, and there's just
- 54:03Speaker 1: like it's so much to hold on to and you're
- 54:06Speaker 1: forced to hold on to it because you're the grown
- 54:08Speaker 1: up in the room.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Yeah, and we're not allowed to have space to do
- 54:12Speaker 4: grief or feel our emotions regardless.
- 54:17Speaker 1: I'm reading that book When the Women, When Women were Dragons, Yeah,
- 54:22Speaker 1: and she literally talks about that how like the first
- 54:24Speaker 1: thing her mom ever taught her about being a woman socially.
- 54:28Speaker 1: And this is a book that takes place in the fifties,
- 54:30Speaker 1: but I'm pretty sure that we're still getting this lesson.
- 54:34Speaker 1: And she goes My mother taught me how to make
- 54:36Speaker 1: the neutral pleasant face, So even when I was angry,
- 54:40Speaker 1: even when I was sad, even when I was enraged, happy,
- 54:45Speaker 1: any of it to get through whatever moment I needed
- 54:48Speaker 1: to get through, so everyone around me was comfortable and
- 54:51Speaker 1: we could all survive it. Yeah, she taught me how
- 54:55Speaker 1: to just like soften my face, shot off that part
- 54:58Speaker 1: of my brain, do that little half smile, and then
- 55:02Speaker 1: be like, can I please leave the room to go
- 55:04Speaker 1: scream in my car?
- 55:05Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, It's almost as if they give us a
- 55:09Speaker 4: manual when we turn a certain age.
- 55:11Speaker 1: It reminds me a lot of that like meltdown that
- 55:14Speaker 1: Drew Barrymore has at the end of writing in Cars
- 55:17Speaker 1: with Boys Because I asked her. Kid of hers tries
- 55:19Speaker 1: to tell her that she didn't do a good job,
- 55:21Speaker 1: and I'm always like, fuck that kid, and I'm screaming
- 55:26Speaker 1: with her. I'm like, she should be screaming at you
- 55:28Speaker 1: in the street. She wanted to be an author. She
- 55:30Speaker 1: wanted to be an award winning author. Okay, she got
- 55:34Speaker 1: knocked up by dumb dumb Steve's on.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we're like a drug problem.
- 55:39Speaker 1: He has a drug problem. We're lucky he didn't do
- 55:41Speaker 1: it two, three or four times, because I've seen women
- 55:44Speaker 1: go through that. Yeah, and then Brittany Murphy died, So
- 55:50Speaker 1: leave Drew Barrymore alone.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, Okay, so that leads us to our
- 55:57Speaker 3: final question. Yeah, sure, are you still comfying?
- 56:02Speaker 1: I feel like that last Yeah, I feel like that
- 56:05Speaker 1: little last tidbit about like the pleasantry of Like sometimes
- 56:10Speaker 1: things for women just have to be pleasant and that's
- 56:12Speaker 1: all they get to be. That fits Freaky Friday. There
- 56:16Speaker 1: wasn't like a lot of conflict. Actually, they were just
- 56:19Speaker 1: shrieking at each other, just they were just having a
- 56:21Speaker 1: bad day. And then there was also like a bad
- 56:26Speaker 1: dirt day they go on down. But there also wasn't
- 56:32Speaker 1: like a grand coming together, like they just decided and yes,
- 56:35Speaker 1: mom will marry the sporing man like and he doesn't
- 56:40Speaker 1: want to be an evil stepfather like I like. Honestly,
- 56:43Speaker 1: his arc is probably the most interesting arc of the
- 56:46Speaker 1: movie because it's like I've been secretly hoping that Lindsay
- 56:50Speaker 1: Lohan would love me, and you're trying to ruin it.
- 56:53Speaker 4: I actually really appreciated how into being a stepdad he
- 56:58Speaker 4: was in like a very wholesome way. Yeah, because it
- 57:01Speaker 4: is really hard to find a partner who is okay
- 57:05Speaker 4: with there being a child. Plus for me, it was
- 57:11Speaker 4: extra baggage because it's a whole lot of drama on
- 57:15Speaker 4: that end on the other side, and many of men
- 57:18Speaker 4: have come and have decided and decided that they for
- 57:21Speaker 4: whatever reason, didn't want to be a part and didn't
- 57:24Speaker 4: want to be, you know, witnessed to all that shit
- 57:27Speaker 4: and didn't want to support me through having to deal
- 57:29Speaker 4: with all of the shit. So seeing him kind of
- 57:33Speaker 4: come in and granted again she is a widow, but
- 57:36Speaker 4: seeing him come in and.
- 57:37Speaker 3: Just be like, I will be your support, Like.
- 57:41Speaker 1: That's the fucking dream, the fucking dream. So yeah, I'm
- 57:45Speaker 1: comfortable with the movie. Maybe take out the ancient Chinese
- 57:48Speaker 1: magic with the fortune cookies. Maybe take out Chad michael
- 57:53Speaker 1: Berry wanting to make kiss. He kiss was Jamie Lee Curtis,
- 57:56Speaker 1: but like, stood on you, Jamie, you got to kiss,
- 57:59Speaker 1: You got to kiss. So the hottest heart throb on
- 58:01Speaker 1: the WB that year. Yeah, yeah, eight out of ten.
- 58:09Speaker 4: I'm so comfy with it as well, because I feel
- 58:12Speaker 4: like I do appreciate that it is a mother daughter
- 58:18Speaker 4: story versus some sort of like unhealthy rom com for teens. Yeah,
- 58:28Speaker 4: and we know I love rom coms, but like it
- 58:33Speaker 4: could have turned it could have turned into it could
- 58:35Speaker 4: have been the wrong kind of story.
- 58:38Speaker 1: And I Robert down and junior story that I'm telling
- 58:41Speaker 1: you about is that Robert, like Jamie Lee Curtis, could
- 58:45Speaker 1: have had sex with Chad michael Berry and it would
- 58:47Speaker 1: be like It's fine, though, because it's anna like so awkward.
- 58:54Speaker 1: It's so awkward.
- 58:57Speaker 4: It makes me so uncomfortable, like just to think about
- 59:03Speaker 4: how I would have to be, like if I were
- 59:06Speaker 4: the mom in Freaky Friday.
- 59:08Speaker 3: Because you know this, I do this regularly.
- 59:10Speaker 4: I'll watch a movie and I'm like, God, that that
- 59:13Speaker 4: boy is fine, and then I'll look him up and
- 59:15Speaker 4: I'll be like, he was born in nineteen ninety five.
- 59:16Speaker 3: I'm like, fuck me, I can't believe I just said that.
- 59:21Speaker 4: It's like or there was more reason, though, I know
- 59:25Speaker 4: there was one recently that I looked up and he
- 59:27Speaker 4: was born in like two thousand and one, and I
- 59:28Speaker 4: was like, I you can't.
- 59:31Speaker 1: You can't have hots the hots for the boys that
- 59:34Speaker 1: have the twenty in front of their year.
- 59:36Speaker 4: I was like, this is so uncomfortable. I don't think
- 59:40Speaker 4: that you should be an actor because and again it
- 59:46Speaker 4: plays into the whole like it's not his fault that
- 59:48Speaker 4: he's cute, and I find him cute.
- 59:50Speaker 1: You should quit his job because you're a horn dog
- 59:52Speaker 1: cell can't handle watching him on movies. You're like, quit
- 59:57Speaker 1: your job, this is indecent.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: But it's like it's like it's like I forget my
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: age sometimes and then when I look up ages and
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: see how close an age they are to my child,
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: it becomes this moment of.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: Want, want, because I, like I.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: Told you the other day, I probably could get away
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: with saying I'm ten years younger and people would probably
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: believe it.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we have great skin.
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Yeah, It's it's like when I told you the story
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: last year when I moved my child into school, they
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: asked which one of us was moving in.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: I swear, if I got more sleep, I would look
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: so youthful at my skin has held up. Thank you Croatia.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Same yes, same, thank you Italia.
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: Jesus, like I've got the I've got the Mediterranean slash
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: melanin going on here, And like even when I look
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: at my parents now, it's like I forget how old
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: they are because.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Their skin looks so amazing.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: I'm telling you. I had a great aunt. She just
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: died on the eve of ninety and I was like,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: what do you mean? Yeah, there's fool sixty five taps.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: I have an uncle turning eighty next year, and I
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: forget all the time because he doesn't look it.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Right, and I just like to live in delusion. No
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: one's told me the actual number.
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, friend, tell everybody what you are up
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: to this week.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: With your shit with my sheet. My name is dan
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Lee Katona. I'm the host of To All the Men
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I've tolerated before. Next week, we will also be on YouTube,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: but on my YouTube channel doing Jurassic Park or sleep
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: List in Seattle. I've said both of the titles so
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: often I've forgotten which one it is.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: I think we need to switch it because Jurassic Park,
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: because I remembered when we were chatting why we doubled that,
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: because you had more shows on your channel than I
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: did on mine this last time.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: There we go, There we go, There we go. We're
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: going to do Jurassic Park. Everyone get hot and ready

- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Jeff Goldie. I think Jewels, I think you're the guest
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: of my show this week. I believe I.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Saw the Patreon uh episode dropping.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: God still Comfy is still comfy Tuesday because Jewels gets
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: the episode early, and then she reminds me which one's
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: coming on Thursday.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: Because I'm a member of her Patreon and you should
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: be too.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: So Thursday, Jules and I will be talking about how
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: women sometimes uphold misogyny and how it fucking lets us down.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: And we're gonna be talking about women in our lives,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: our mothers. Britney, not Brittany. Britney Spears did nothing.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Wrong, nothing wrong.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Brittany Spears did nothing wrong. We to Taylor Swift, a
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: little bit of Beyonce. For whatever reason, I was mad
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: at Queen Bay that day.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: I don't remember we were.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: It's because I don't like jay Z. That's what I
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: have to continue to look at jay Z. So Jules
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: tell everyone. So that's me find me men. I've tolerated
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: pod on Instagram. I've started a blog, a out ya
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: and newsletter shit I Friends.
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: Hi, I'm Julia Washington. Your host of pop culture makes
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: me jealous. Where we analyze pop culture through the lens
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: of race or gender and sometimes both. This week on
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: the show, we are doing our summer blockbuster movie wrap
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: up with Movies with Mister Mario. We get into the
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: top ten highest grossing films domestically. We talk about our
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: summer favorites, we talk about what were the biggest surprises,
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: and we talk about who we think has awards opportunities.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: Assuming the strike is over by then and we have
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: it feels like the strike has been going on.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: For Execute desert Able.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: We really need the executives to get off their million
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: dollars of shit and share some of that profitability with
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: the true people who are doing the actual work.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Everyone, everyone cuss out an executive today. That is your
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: homework everyone. I don't care if they're a movie executive.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Just find an executive and cuss them out. And then
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: go see Bottoms because that is the summer. So upset
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: and they won't and they won't wide release it unless
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: the people who are in the towns that they released
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: it go and see it. So everyone rushed to your

- 1:05:33Speaker 3: Truly, So I'm like, come on, it looks so good.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: It's a plot twist none of us saw coming, and.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: They had the audacity to show it as a trailer
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: in like several movies I saw this summer.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: It's the funniest movie I've ever seen.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: Honestly, I'm just so jealous. I really want to see it.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Support your local lesbians and go see Bottoms. I mean,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: that's an executive and then support your local Let's be
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: in Oh, Mario says, supposedly releasing wide in two weeks,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: and we're gonna keep our fingers crossed that that is
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: true so we can cover it on pop culture.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Makes me jealous inappropriate time.
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: Friends, we are so glad to be back from our
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: summer hiatus. We've had such a fun summer and we

- 1:06:31Speaker 4: in the internet grams, you would know. Can you tell
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: us this is our first show back after like three months?
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Well, I had to stare at Mario's comment for like
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: a good thirty seconds before I was like, Ah, I'm
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: just here so I don't get fined. He was amazing.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Put him in all the movies like we did What's
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: that Wrestler? John Sena? Him and John sena need to
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: be in a movie together where they don't belong, but
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: they do.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: John Cena is in a new movie.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: I saw a trailer four when I went and saw
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: Grand Turismo, and I don't know how.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: I feel about it.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: I was like, I love John Cena. Everyone cuss out
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: an executive.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: This is your homework for the sports or local.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Lesbians, and tell John Cena you love them. And stay cozy,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: stay companie.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: Until next time. Friends,
