- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a pain hypnosis
- 0:47session that was created for a client that I had worked with in
- 0:52the past and managed to help them reduce the intensity of
- 0:58pain sensations in their mouth. They had a condition, a fairly
- 1:01rare condition called burning mouth syndrome, and that got so
- 1:05low that using their words, they said they didn't even really
- 1:10consider that they had it anymore.
- 1:12It was that level of insignificance to them.
- 1:17But something had changed. They went through a period.
- 1:20Of. Stress a big event they were
- 1:24organizing unexpected financial payments that needed to be made
- 1:31combined with travel and and movement and not going to the
- 1:34gym as much and these kind of things were taking their toll
- 1:39and the symptoms had come back not as bad as they were before
- 1:44but that started to return and obviously they didn't want that
- 1:49to continue they didn't want to fall back into previous patterns
- 1:55and when I. Asked this.
- 1:57Client the question you know what what narrative, what
- 2:01meaning did he? Give to that.
- 2:03And what he said is, you know, why does this happen to me?
- 2:06Why? Again, you know me with all the
- 2:09ailments and unconsciously, you know, he was falling into a, the
- 2:18archetype of the orphan is the poor me.
- 2:20It's the victim archetype. And the problem with that is
- 2:25that that can give benefits. It can elicit sympathy and help
- 2:30and give you an excuse for not having or wanting to do things
- 2:34because you're the the victim in the situation.
- 2:38But it's very, very debilitating.
- 2:40And they could recall the time in their life where they didn't
- 2:44feel that way. At all.
- 2:46In particular, they felt at their most resourceful in their
- 2:51mid 20s when they felt strong and motivated and they could
- 2:54handle anything. So what you're going to hear in
- 2:57this hypnosis session is regression to that time of
- 3:01resourcefulness and reactivating.
- 3:05Those resourceful states. But also having a new identity
- 3:10to tap into and that is the the hero.
- 3:14So you can look at the opposite of a victim as a survivor.
- 3:18But in both cases, bad things have happened.
- 3:21The hero is a very different archetype in the sense that the
- 3:23hero chooses to go through pain, adversity and difficulty because
- 3:29it's the right thing to do and they have that feeling of
- 3:31resilience. So you'll get a sense of that's
- 3:34what's going on in this session. And some of the previous things
- 3:38that really help this client is to feel that they can manage
- 3:42whatever pain or sensations get thrown at them.
- 3:45It's always temporary and it encourages them to either be
- 3:48mindful or to make empowering life decisions.
- 3:53Although the client I was working with had burning mouth
- 3:56syndrome, I think this would be useful for anyone that has
- 4:00chronic pain and they feel like a victim in that narrative.
- 4:06And here's the interesting thing in In the victim frame, bad
- 4:13things are happening to you and you feel sorry for yourself.
- 4:18In the Survivor or the Hero archetype, the bad things are
- 4:22still happening, the undesirable things are still happening, but
- 4:26there is a feeling of being able to handle it that somehow.
- 4:30They will. Harness this discomfort and make
- 4:33it work for them and therefore I think it's very, very useful for
- 4:38anyone with chronic pain. Anything where doctors can't
- 4:43treat it with some kind of medication or surgery.
- 4:47It's not sure where it's come from.
- 4:49This. It's just lingering pain or that
- 4:52comes in bouts. That kind of pain is the ideal
- 4:55pain that hypnosis really helps for.
- 4:58It's not designed to help with the kind of pain that is short
- 5:03term and fixable. So if you break a finger, you
- 5:07don't see a hypnotist, you see a a doctor to reset the finger and
- 5:12put it in plaster and heal. But that's not the only type of
- 5:15pain there is. You get this pain that is kind
- 5:17of chronic that is lingering around that it it doesn't really
- 5:21have a biological cause, but the pain is still there.
- 5:27And that's the kind of pain which is really useful for to be
- 5:30treated with hypnosis. So if you can relate to that,
- 5:33you might benefit from this session.
- 5:36If you want something a bit more bespoke, there will be a link in
- 5:38the show notes where you can schedule that free consultation
- 5:40call to explore working with me. But for now, find a quiet,
- 5:44comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 5:46Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 6:36you breathe in, breathe in that slow, long, relaxing breath.
- 6:45And as you exhale, just imagine releasing echoes of the stresses
- 6:55and strains of recent times feel like it's leaving your body in
- 7:02that outward breath. And when you breathe in, breathe
- 7:11in just a little deeper than you normally would, breathing in a
- 7:16feeling of resourcefulness. And as you exhale, give
- 7:25permission to release, to release tension, to release
- 7:31stress, but also to release any worries.
- 7:41Feel them leave your body as you breathe out, because you're
- 7:47breathing in this resourceful feeling of relaxation and
- 7:52releasing anything that your body is holding on to that it
- 7:57doesn't need any more. You can consider these deep,
- 8:04long breaths like an emotional transfusion, breathing in what
- 8:11your body needs and exhaling what it doesn't.
- 8:18And your body. Already knows how to do.
- 8:21This because that's what breathing is.
- 8:26You don't have to try to breathe in oxygen and you don't have to
- 8:31force your brother body to exhale carbon dioxide.
- 8:35Your body just knows how to do that.
- 8:40So allow it to breathe in the resources you need and to exhale
- 8:48any of the waste, the byproducts of stressful times, unexpected
- 8:59financial costs. Just feel that now is the
- 9:04perfect time to let go. Become aware of the sensations
- 9:21in your body, the position of your head, your neck, your arms
- 9:29and your legs. If you need to move to a more
- 9:33comfortable position, just do that now and notice with your
- 9:39eyes closed how much easier it is to focus on the sound of my
- 9:45voice. Notice that you're breathing
- 9:51with your diaphragm now, not just your chest, taking that
- 9:56deep breath in through your nose and exhaling slowly, feeling
- 10:02your diaphragm expand and contract.
- 10:11Notice the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you become.
- 10:17And the more relaxed you become, the more the tension is being
- 10:24released. And I want you to bring your
- 10:28attention to the muscles in your feet.
- 10:32Just imagine those muscles softening, loosening, becoming
- 10:39heavy, and just for a moment, tighten them.
- 10:44Tighten all the muscles in and around the feet, and then
- 10:50release. And when you release, let go of
- 10:54any tension. Now focus on your calves.
- 11:01Feel them becoming relaxed and calm, and then tense them.
- 11:07Flex those calf muscles and release and notice each release
- 11:16makes them more relaxed than they were before.
- 11:21Sometimes the increase in tension is exactly what's needed
- 11:30in order to release it. I want you to think of a memory.
- 11:38A memory perhaps of maybe a champagne bottle or something
- 11:45else. That pressure was building up.
- 11:49Maybe you can recall shaking it, and perhaps the increase in
- 11:55pressure was needed for the pressure to be released.
- 12:01And when it was released, it all went away.
- 12:08Now bring your attention back to your thighs.
- 12:12As you breathe in, tighten those muscles, the thighs, but also
- 12:19the front of the thighs, those quadriceps, and tighten,
- 12:23tighten, tighten, and then exhale, allowing them to soften
- 12:28completely and then move up to your hips and lower back.
- 12:33Just feel them loosening, becoming more and more relaxed.
- 12:41And now focus on your abdomen. Take a deep breath in, feel that
- 12:47diaphragm expand your belly, and then just tense those muscles,
- 12:57those ABS and those obliques just enough before releasing.
- 13:03And as you exhale, just allow your entire torso to relax from
- 13:12the abdominals all the way up to the chest.
- 13:14Just allow it all to soften and relax as you now notice how your
- 13:20chest rises and falls with your breath.
- 13:25But imagine not forcing a breath.
- 13:29Allow your body to breathe and just notice it, almost like
- 13:34you're breathing all by yourself.
- 13:38The breaths become smoother, longer, effortless.
- 13:45Now focus on your shoulders and gently shrug your shoulders.
- 13:52Just lift them up towards your ears and as you exhale, just
- 13:59allow them to drop. But as they drop, feel tension
- 14:04being released from your neck and your shoulders.
- 14:06Just feel that wonderful sensation.
- 14:12And now let's just do one last time with your face.
- 14:15Just tense all the muscles in your face, clench your jaw,
- 14:21furrow your brow, squint your eyes, create all the tension in
- 14:26the face, breathe in and on the outward breath just release it
- 14:31all as you feel a wonderful sense of relaxation now, from
- 14:39the top of your head all the way down to the tips of your toes.
- 14:44Feel that relaxation in your fingers, around your throat,
- 14:50around your chest, in your diaphragm, just breathing in and
- 14:53breathing out without any effort at all.
- 15:03And I want you to use the power of your imagination to imagine a
- 15:11staircase, but a particular staircase that you can recall
- 15:17when you were 25 years old. I want you to imagine at the top
- 15:24of the staircase. You're standing at your current
- 15:27age. And as you walk down the
- 15:31staircase, as I count downwards from 12:50, you will feel
- 15:34yourself relaxing even more, but your age getting closer to 25
- 15:42with each step. Maybe you feel healthier or
- 15:46stronger or more resourceful with each and every step.
- 15:51And when you get to the final step, you will be 25 years old.
- 15:59If your unconscious understands, let me know by nodding your
- 16:01head. That's it.
- 16:05Imagine that staircase. Staircase from your past,
- 16:10breathing in that resourceful relaxation.
- 16:12And then 10, taking the first step down the staircase feeling
- 16:19younger and maybe the increments are 2345 years with each step
- 16:26down you get to decide. And then nine, another step down
- 16:31the staircase, feeling healthier, younger, and feel
- 16:40that you are awakening all the best resources at that time in
- 16:45your life, going back in these increments of 3-4 or five years.
- 16:548 releasing all tension. But again, feel yourself
- 16:59younger, notice any sensations in your mouth, because as you go
- 17:07down the staircase, you awaken the normal pathways of that time
- 17:13in your life. Seven, another step down the
- 17:18staircase, another 3-4, five years younger than you were the
- 17:23step before. Feel stronger, more alert, more
- 17:29resourceful, and notice the absence of certain sensations
- 17:36that have been recent occurrences.
- 17:41And then six, nearly halfway down the staircase.
- 17:47And then five. You're now halfway between your
- 17:54actual age and 25 and feel that you're that age.
- 18:00Maybe look for clues As you look at the back of your hands,
- 18:04you're seeing the age of a hand. You were that time breathing in,
- 18:13breathing out, feeling more relaxed.
- 18:15And then four. Another step down the staircase,
- 18:17Younger still three, feeling more and more relaxed, feeling
- 18:25you can handle whatever life throws at you.
- 18:30Three becomes 2. And maybe you're in your 30s
- 18:34now, getting closer to that age of 25 and then two close now
- 18:42very close to being 25 years old.
- 18:47Feel strong, feel alone. Maybe feel other things
- 18:54connected with you at that age. Maybe there was a burning
- 19:00ambition. Maybe there was optimism,
- 19:06belief, Dr. Allow it all to awaken and then one nearly at
- 19:14the final step. Maybe you're very close to 25
- 19:19now and then zero as you get to the bottom of the staircase.
- 19:24Feel that you are 25 years old and at your most resourceful and
- 19:34you can walk away from the staircase.
- 19:37And I want you to walk to a memory where you felt at your
- 19:45most resourceful at that age, maybe a difficult challenge,
- 19:52maybe something complex. And I want you to relive that
- 19:58moment where you felt the most resourceful you've ever felt.
- 20:04And as you do that. Imagine a golden light
- 20:09surrounding you aglow. Allowed this light to signify
- 20:18that you are resourceful. Notice how capable and strong
- 20:25you feel, ready to handle anything life throws at you.
- 20:32Tap into that strength. Now notice any sensations in
- 20:37your mouth, or just the absence of them.
- 20:43Tap into that strength now. Allow that strength to fill your
- 20:47entire being, creating a ripple through time and space all the
- 20:53way to the present moment. But for now, connect with that
- 20:58time. And as you connect with this
- 21:04powerful, resourceful version of yourself, start to think of the
- 21:10sensations associated with BMS and notice how in this
- 21:16resourceful state, this state of resilience, those sensations
- 21:22feel more manageable than ever before.
- 21:27They won't stop you doing anything.
- 21:31You don't need sleep to avoid these sensations.
- 21:36These sensations are like flies on the windscreen of a car.
- 21:44And if you can reach that point of feeling that your resources
- 21:48exceed those demands, let me know by nodding your head.
- 21:52That's it. And maybe you've already
- 21:59realised that by fully accepting these sensations, you're also
- 22:05giving yourself permission to release them.
- 22:09When you fight them, they become tenacious.
- 22:13When you accept them, you're releasing them.
- 22:18With each breath, you allow any discomfort to dial down,
- 22:26dissolve, You accept it, can you release it?
- 22:31And if they return, you will perceive these sensations as a
- 22:40gentle nudge, a reminder to become more mindful in your
- 22:45daily life. Mindful of things to look at,
- 22:50listen to, touch, smell, taste. But also they will guide you to
- 22:59make empowering, positive decisions.
- 23:05Decisions that nourish your body, your mind and your spirit.
- 23:11Decision to go back to the gym more, to breathe in fresh air,
- 23:17to eat good quality food, to get the right amount of sleep.
- 23:26And with each decision you make, don't be surprised if any
- 23:30sensations connected with Burning Maratha less frequent,
- 23:38less intense and more elusive. When you heed the message, the
- 23:46message does not need to be repeated.
- 23:51And with each passing moment, you find yourself expecting
- 23:54these sensations to subside, trusting in your body's ability
- 24:01to heal, and trusting in the magic of neuroplasticity for
- 24:07your your brain to rewire itself The moment it doesn't need
- 24:14something, those pathways can atrophy.
- 24:23I want you to feel in this moment, like a hero, like an
- 24:28action man. You can handle anything and
- 24:36maybe find it hard to relate to that older version of you that
- 24:42would complain why me, why again, why now?
- 24:49And I wonder if you are now willing to release any feelings
- 24:55or identity linked to victimhood and if now feels like the right
- 24:59time to release them. Let me know by nodding your
- 25:03head. That's it.
- 25:10I want you to get a sense then you wouldn't carry a big
- 25:16heavyweight around with you if that weight served no purpose.
- 25:27You would let it go and release it.
- 25:30And that identity where you're the victim, the martyr in the
- 25:38story, is like a heavyweight you've been carrying around for
- 25:43too long. And if you're now ready to
- 25:46release it, let me know about nodding your head.
- 25:51So feel the weight being released as you let it go.
- 26:00And the moment it's gone, I want you to imagine replacing it with
- 26:07a Cape. Like a superhero's Cape.
- 26:11Just imagine that Cape is resting on your shoulders, maybe
- 26:20tired around your neck. And this is a Cape that
- 26:27symbolises a heroic and stoic attitude towards pain.
- 26:40Every superhero is a stoic. They don't complain when bad
- 26:45things happen, they acknowledge it, they accept it, they do
- 26:50something about it. Pragmatic, focused on their
- 26:56mission. From this point forward, you
- 27:02will acknowledge that pain is inevitable and the tiny percent
- 27:11of the world's population that experience no pain.
- 27:16That is not a blessing. That is a curse, a genetic
- 27:20condition that leads to horrible ailments.
- 27:26You don't want a life without pain.
- 27:30Therefore, pain is useful, inevitable, and in the right
- 27:35context, even desirable. But suffering is always
- 27:42optional. You decide whether to suffer or
- 27:47not. You can experience pain, not
- 27:53suffer, and you could experience no pain and still suffer.
- 27:58Therefore, suffering is a choice and you choose now to stand
- 28:05tall, facing challenges, undesirable sensations.
- 28:12With this heroic stance, with every breath, you embody
- 28:18strength, resilience and determination.
- 28:22You are your own hero, so breathe in and breathe out.
- 28:31And as you continue to relax, deeply acknowledge that you
- 28:36accept what you feel, and in doing so, you release it.
- 28:42You are resilient, resourceful and capable, and you choose
- 28:50empowerment, mindfulness, and healing.
- 28:58Allow these words to be like seeds planted deep in your
- 29:02subconscious mind, already starting to take root, already
- 29:10becoming part of who you are, sinking into your subconscious
- 29:14mind. And who knows what changes will
- 29:18happen in your future as you're conscious and unconscious.
- 29:23Work in synergy to make wonderful, powerful, positive
- 29:28changes. And maybe already you notice how
- 29:35your body feels different now, maybe calmer, lighter, stronger,
- 29:40more at peace. And I want you to return to that
- 29:45staircase that will count from 1:00 to 10:00.
- 29:51And you will imagine climbing up the staircase, you will return
- 29:56to your current age in your current location, but you will
- 30:00keep all of the wonderful resources, qualities, strength
- 30:05and resilience and leave anything behind that is no
- 30:10longer serving you. Starting to climb that staircase
- 30:16as I count from 1:00 to 10:00. When I get to 10 you will
- 30:20awaken. Starting to count 123.
- 30:25Waking up 456 More alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 30:31Open your eyes 910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 30:36awake. Thank you for listening to The
