- 0:04If I hadn't done that, he wouldn't have been able to save my leg.
- 0:08Lindsey Vonn on saying that she almost lost her leg at the Olympics.
- 0:12Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and
- 0:16maybe a laugh. I'm Lindsey Vrnick and it's February 24th, 2026.
- 0:21Today definitely feels like Monday, but that also means that it'll feel like
- 0:26a shorter week, right? In real news, Mexico's most wanted cartel boss, Al Mencho, is dead.
- 0:33He led the Julesco Nune Generation Cartel in western Mexico.
- 0:37It's one of the most violent and powerful gangs in Mexico. They made billions
- 0:41in revenue and have tens of thousands of members.
- 0:44Authorities tracked him down by following one of his romantic partners,
- 0:47and the U.S. CIA helped too.
- 0:50There were helicopters and heavy gunfire. It was chaos. Al Mencho was wounded and died in transport.
- 0:57There was a ton of violence after all of this. Armed groups blocked highways,
- 1:01burned cars, and set fire to supermarkets and banks.
- 1:04Public transport halted, and hotels told guests to stay inside.
- 1:08The U.S. told Americans to shelter in place.
- 1:11Tragically, 25 members of the Mexican National Guard died in the operation,
- 1:16along with dozens of cartel members and civilians caught in the crossfire.
- 1:20So what's next? Cartels either have a smooth succession plan or a violent power struggle.
- 1:26This cartel is structured to survive leadership changes, so don't expect peace
- 1:30just because the boss is gone.
- 1:32Mexico's government calls this a major win. But who really knows?
- 1:36The Northeast has officially been buried.
- 1:38Monday's blizzard dumped three feet of snow in parts of Rhode Island,
- 1:42stranded over 350 cars in Massachusetts, and basically shut down civilization.
- 1:48Providence hit 33 inches. Warwick hit 36.2.
- 1:53And yeah, the trees didn't survive that wind either. Half a million homes lost power.
- 1:58Cape Cod was 85% in the dark. New York City got nearly 20 inches in Central Park.
- 2:05Momdani threw shovelers an extra $11 an hour.
- 2:08Most subway lines are running again, except the ones that matter.
- 2:12The path is running a little bit. The C train is down.
- 2:17The Staten Island Railway, forget it.
- 2:20New Jersey Transit is still mostly frozen.
- 2:23Basically, your commute is a choose-your-own-adventure called How Much Ice Can You Survive?
- 2:28Food delivery workers were out there braving 60-mile-per-hour winds.
- 2:32Some e-bikes even died mid-delivery.
- 2:35Some workers stayed home, and Grubhub and DoorDash paused.
- 2:39Instacart said, LOL, we're still sending people, and gave them surge pay for $4 per delivery.
- 2:45Because who wouldn't risk their lives for $4?
- 2:49Meanwhile, essential workers and weirdly determined people like nannies,
- 2:53doormen, pizza guys, and security guards showed up.
- 2:56Some people even followed the plows like it was a religious experience.
- 3:00Others made it halfway to their jobs, only to realize their office wasn't even opening.
- 3:05Power is slowly coming back, and streets are slowly getting cleared.
- 3:08People are slowly losing their minds, too, wondering if this winter will ever end.
- 3:13And the homeless population is still trying to figure out whether the subway
- 3:16floor counts as a warning center.
- 3:18Nick Reiner, the youngest son of director Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer Reiner,
- 3:23has pleaded not guilty to stabbing his parents to death in their Brentwood mansion.
- 3:27He waived his right to a speedy trial.
- 3:30Lawyers call it efficiently, delaying the inevitable. The preliminary hearing
- 3:35is scheduled for April 29th.
- 3:37Nick's defense is still figuring itself out after his first lawyer ghosted him.
- 3:42Meanwhile, the prosecutors are deciding whether to throw the death penalty into the mix.
- 3:47No one still knows what the motive was behind this, and the media is locked out of discovery.
- 3:53Stay tuned, because nothing screams family drama like a real-life murder plot twist.
- 3:58In Lindsay Life, yesterday I went to Central Park to check out all the snow
- 4:03and the sledding with my roommate, and we watched all these crazy people snowboard.
- 4:08Check it out on my TikTok. It's like really crazy.
- 4:12Some of the flips and all these crazy things. And there was even a little girl
- 4:15snowboarding. It was so cute.
- 4:17Things I'm thinking about. How I recently sent your type B worker to everyone
- 4:22I know that would love it.
- 4:23And then I realized that those people are all of my previous bosses.
- 4:28Cooking tip of the day. Throw some rice and some eggs and some vegetables and
- 4:34some tofu into a pan, and it's very delicious.
- 4:38Feedback, comments, questions, and nice Jewish by looking for a date,
