- 0:54Speaker 3: change your money story one money move at a time.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I'm backside and with me on the deep dive couch
- 1:00Speaker 3: is none other than Miss Jess Ricky. And if you're
- 1:03Speaker 3: looking at your calendar thinking how did we get here
- 1:05Speaker 3: so quickly? You aren't alone today will be chatting about
- 1:08Speaker 3: hitting reset and starting the financial new year with hopefully
- 1:11Speaker 3: some better money habits.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I'm feeling the new year energy. Are you feeling it?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Feeling your birthday too?
- 1:18Speaker 4: I do?
- 1:21Speaker 2: And are you meant to be Patrick or SpongeBob? You're
- 1:25Speaker 2: asking too much for me. I just sound I understand
- 1:31Speaker 2: job Patrick because Patrick is pink and yeah, yeah, wait
- 1:36Speaker 2: a second. You know when someone says something and you've
- 1:39Speaker 2: already been laughing.
- 1:40Speaker 3: You just tricked me into like like and I'm a
- 1:42Speaker 3: bit dumb And I was like, yeah, but I promise
- 1:45Speaker 3: don't agree.
- 1:47Speaker 2: But if you guys can't tell, it might be a
- 1:49Speaker 2: rogue one today might be a little bit rogue. Might
- 1:51Speaker 2: be a little bit rogue just us. We're checking in
- 1:54Speaker 2: about all things into financial year, tax time, goals. I
- 1:57Speaker 2: personally love this time. If you are, it's speacause you
- 2:00Speaker 2: get a second wave of new year, new meat energy.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Totally and obviously you don't need a new year to
- 2:05Speaker 2: refocus on your goals. I feel like we should say
- 2:07Speaker 2: that up the top. You can do this. It's any
- 2:09Speaker 2: point in time that you want. But if you're someone
- 2:11Speaker 2: who does really like to harness the energy, around you,
- 2:13Speaker 2: and the financial year is a great time to do it. Yes,
- 2:16Speaker 2: I completely agree.
- 2:17Speaker 3: It really does feel like, yeah, you're getting a new
- 2:20Speaker 3: New Year's eve, you know, and you can just start from.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Scratch and really hone the powers that be.
- 2:28Speaker 3: And I think like financially, if you're not yet exactly
- 2:31Speaker 3: where you are maybe feeling like you want to be headed,
- 2:34Speaker 3: then yeah, it's a really good time to reset and
- 2:36Speaker 3: think about what the next financial year might.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Look like for you. Absolutely, but before we get into it,
- 2:44Speaker 2: welcome back to the money. On today's deep dive. We
- 2:47Speaker 2: are talking about your money research and resolutions for the
- 2:50Speaker 2: new financial year. But before we get into you guys,
- 2:53Speaker 2: allow us a moment to be selfish if we may. Yes,
- 2:55Speaker 2: I thought perhaps we could take you back through our
- 2:57Speaker 2: financial year look forward a little bit together. It's always
- 3:00Speaker 2: nice to have the accountability and you guys are so
- 3:02Speaker 2: good at keeping on top of us for things we
- 3:04Speaker 2: should be doing, which I really appreciate. I totally agree.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Should we start with what were some of your money
- 3:10Speaker 2: highlights and lowlights for the air.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Well, obviously not having a job for Longham has been
- 3:15Speaker 3: a huge low light, and I think, but I think
- 3:19Speaker 3: in the meantime as well. It was a great lesson
- 3:22Speaker 3: because I think I do get a little bit cocky
- 3:26Speaker 3: maybe or I do get a little bit like delusional.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I don't think it's cockiness. I think it's a delusion. Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Where It's like I quit my job and I thought, oh,
- 3:33Speaker 2: definitely by like in two weeks I'll have a new job.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And then so I just kind of spent as normal.
- 3:38Speaker 2: And then it took one.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Month, two months, three months, four month of like wow,
- 3:43Speaker 3: I'm not getting a job to start being like okay,
- 3:45Speaker 3: I need to fix up how I'm spending and so
- 3:49Speaker 3: not that I had, I had no savings obviously, I
- 3:51Speaker 3: was just picking out random things here and there. But
- 3:53Speaker 3: now I'm like, okay, I'm being insane. I just really
- 3:57Speaker 3: lock in. If I can't find something that I'll change
- 4:00Speaker 3: my route and kind of look at that. But so
- 4:04Speaker 3: I think that that was a low light highlight honestly,
- 4:06Speaker 3: just like somehow, some way, there seems to be little
- 4:10Speaker 3: hits of money and I think it's beautiful.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Can I ask and be a little bit nosy? Obviously
- 4:15Speaker 2: You've always been the more free spirited of the three
- 4:17Speaker 2: of us. Thank you. How do you feel now? Obviously,
- 4:20Speaker 2: for those who don't know the context, you left your stable,
- 4:23Speaker 2: full time job because you wanted to take a contract
- 4:25Speaker 2: role at a company that you've always wanted to work for,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and you knew it was a short term contract role. Obviously,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I feel like we all were hoping that it would
- 4:32Speaker 2: pan out into something longer to at this point in time,
- 4:34Speaker 2: it hasn't. You knew that if that happened, you would
- 4:37Speaker 2: then effectively be jobless. At the time, You're like, it's
- 4:42Speaker 2: worth it to have that experience, to live that life
- 4:45Speaker 2: moment that I really want to do. Do you still
- 4:46Speaker 2: feel that way or is it tinged with regret or
- 4:49Speaker 2: how does it feel for you?
- 4:50Speaker 3: That's a great question, and genuinely that on its own,
- 4:54Speaker 3: because that happened middle of twenty twenty five, and then
- 4:59Speaker 3: I made it it work in some way. I was
- 5:02Speaker 3: like applying for jobs was a little bit stress. It's
- 5:03Speaker 3: like I can't find anything, But luckily I had like
- 5:05Speaker 3: other things that I could pick up, like hospo shifts.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I really had no regrets, and then I got that
- 5:11Speaker 3: very short job that unfortunately did alter the trajectory of
- 5:17Speaker 3: my life a little bit because I became I feel
- 5:19Speaker 3: like maybe I had like a mild depression.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It really really really Yeah, it was not good. And
- 5:23Speaker 2: so I think that anything before this one.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Very short stint at this really awful workplace that really
- 5:31Speaker 3: messed me up. I think that anything before and after
- 5:35Speaker 3: no regrets whatsoever. And I know it probably seems like
- 5:37Speaker 3: that because I'm like, I still can't find a job,
- 5:39Speaker 3: But really like the in between, the like having random
- 5:44Speaker 3: shifts here and there, and honestly, like with this sup
- 5:46Speaker 3: app I know I've mentioned it before, but just in
- 5:48Speaker 3: case anyone doesn't know, you can pick up random hospo
- 5:50Speaker 3: shifts and you can get like if you had a
- 5:52Speaker 3: shift every day or five days a week, four days
- 5:54Speaker 3: a week, you have plenty of more than enough to
- 5:56Speaker 3: live on. And I'm like, that's then the freedom in
- 5:59Speaker 3: between is making me so happy and so like I
- 6:03Speaker 3: can just do whatever I want. I have all this
- 6:05Speaker 3: creative energy remaining at the end of the day to
- 6:08Speaker 3: do whatever the hell I want, and I can do
- 6:10Speaker 3: a week on of hospital shifts a week off. The
- 6:13Speaker 3: freedom and the flexibility is incredible. So I don't regret
- 6:16Speaker 3: that at all. I think I regret maybe the way
- 6:18Speaker 3: I went about things or whatever, but I do not
- 6:20Speaker 3: regret taking that opportunity.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yeah, because I feel like like a lot of people
- 6:24Speaker 2: talk to us, they're on the other side of it, right,
- 6:26Speaker 2: like they're going, should I make the choice? Should I
- 6:28Speaker 2: take the leap? And now, like your experience postly maybe
- 6:32Speaker 2: hasn't been exactly what you wanted it to be, but
- 6:34Speaker 2: the fact that you still feel so positively about it
- 6:36Speaker 2: is I think amazing. Thank you so much for me.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Not that I've shut up about it at all, But
- 6:43Speaker 2: my highlight is obviously that I'm building a house. Amazing,
- 6:46Speaker 2: very exciting. It'll be done in a few months. A
- 6:48Speaker 2: few months. Yeah, they said end of August, so I'm
- 6:52Speaker 2: expecting end of September because I things always delay, So
- 6:56Speaker 2: we'll see, we'll see what happens. But that's really exciting.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I think my low life is probably also house related,
- 7:01Speaker 2: and it's not the worst you're in. I feel almost
- 7:04Speaker 2: bad calling it a low light, but it's probably just
- 7:06Speaker 2: the anxiety that has come with realizing all of the
- 7:09Speaker 2: additional expenses that come with building the house. Totally did
- 7:11Speaker 2: an episode a few months ago on where I kind
- 7:14Speaker 2: of chatted through a bit of my experience so far,
- 7:16Speaker 2: and I spoke about how there are just so many
- 7:19Speaker 2: costs that pop up outside of the cost of building
- 7:22Speaker 2: the house itself, and so I have definitely experienced a
- 7:24Speaker 2: little bit of anxiety, which I think is also really
- 7:26Speaker 2: being driven by the cost of living crisis and the
- 7:30Speaker 2: fact that just everything is so much more expensive. It
- 7:32Speaker 2: really feels like your dollars are going so much less
- 7:36Speaker 2: further than they were previously. Yeah, my low light is
- 7:39Speaker 2: probably honestly just experiencing money anxiety points throughout the year.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'm totally fine and like we always find a way,
- 7:46Speaker 2: but it's not a good feeling totally.
- 7:48Speaker 3: No, it doesn't matter what, Like maybe your money problem
- 7:52Speaker 3: is that you're like you're a billionaire and you have
- 7:54Speaker 3: this million dollar tax set or whatever it is. It's
- 7:58Speaker 3: all relative, isn't it. And so I think that money anxiety,
- 8:01Speaker 3: no matter what stage of whatever you're in, then it's
- 8:05Speaker 3: still like so visceral and it's the worst feelings. So
- 8:08Speaker 3: I completely understand, and I imagine it's more stressful because
- 8:12Speaker 3: there's more on the line almost It's like, yeah, if
- 8:15Speaker 3: you can't afford something, then that could mean that this
- 8:17Speaker 3: whole dream is like, well, I don't know if you'll
- 8:20Speaker 3: come and down I don't know the lins and outs
- 8:22Speaker 3: of it all, but I'm like, that's stressful.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I'm really sorry. Oh it is a bit of a
- 8:25Speaker 2: juggle for sure.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Is there anything you wish you'd done differently in general
- 8:31Speaker 3: or the house, but also the whole financial year?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, Hindspot's always twenty twenty, isn't it. I mean I
- 8:36Speaker 2: wish I'd bought sooner. I wish I'd invested more in
- 8:39Speaker 2: the dipter, like all these things that you don't know
- 8:42Speaker 2: that you're in the good spot till you can look
- 8:43Speaker 2: back on it be like, oh, like that was a
- 8:45Speaker 2: good opportunity, I think all in all, honestly, I don't
- 8:49Speaker 2: want this to be a boring episode, but I feel
- 8:51Speaker 2: like I've been really steadfast in knowing my path, knowing
- 8:56Speaker 2: what would get me there, and following it. Yeah, And
- 8:59Speaker 2: I think like that's something I as an individual and
- 9:01Speaker 2: pretty good at is. And I've been saving this house
- 9:04Speaker 2: positive for however many years. And you know, now that
- 9:06Speaker 2: I've got the house, I'm saving to make up the
- 9:08Speaker 2: shortfall and those sorts of things when I'm working towards
- 9:10Speaker 2: a goal. I am really good at doing what I've
- 9:13Speaker 2: got to do to get myself there, and so it
- 9:16Speaker 2: has been kind of a nothing year outside of that, Like,
- 9:20Speaker 2: I've just kept my head down. I've worked hard to
- 9:23Speaker 2: increase my income. You know, if I start hustling all
- 9:25Speaker 2: those sorts of things where I could and I have
- 9:28Speaker 2: regular goals for like how much I want to invest
- 9:30Speaker 2: every month, and those sorts of things like i've like clockwork,
- 9:34Speaker 2: basically same amount goes in every month, like I've just
- 9:36Speaker 2: got the system down pat it feels like, which is
- 9:39Speaker 2: probably because you know, at the start of the year,
- 9:42Speaker 2: I reviewed my budget and every year I go back
- 9:45Speaker 2: to it and make sure everything's working. I've had to
- 9:47Speaker 2: make tweaks here and there for sure, like I've had
- 9:50Speaker 2: to increase my grocery budget, I've had to increase my
- 9:52Speaker 2: petrol budget. That means things have had to be juggled around.
- 9:56Speaker 2: But I feel like I'm in a very privileged position where,
- 10:00Speaker 2: you know, I do have money allocated for discretionary spending.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I've said, you know in recent episode, like I have
- 10:05Speaker 2: money that I save specifically each month to spend on
- 10:08Speaker 2: beauty products or clothes or whatever that is. Those aren't
- 10:11Speaker 2: a necessity, and so when I've had two I can
- 10:13Speaker 2: pull money away from that to reallocate it to the
- 10:16Speaker 2: things that I do like food. Totally. I honestly don't
- 10:19Speaker 2: think I do look back and whish I'd done anything
- 10:21Speaker 2: differently because I think I've stayed the course, which is
- 10:23Speaker 2: not the most exciting thing to share with everybody, but
- 10:26Speaker 2: I'm proud of myself. Yeah, that's amazing.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's amazing to share because I think
- 10:32Speaker 3: a lot of people I mean, I'm probably guilty of
- 10:34Speaker 3: this too, but you just want the juice, you want
- 10:36Speaker 3: the bad things, and so even like the do you
- 10:38Speaker 3: regret anything, it's like such a common question. It's like,
- 10:40Speaker 3: what did you say you were want to do and
- 10:42Speaker 3: you did it and you're really happy that you did it,
- 10:44Speaker 3: you know, so.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I'm like, that's amazing, thank you for you.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Honestly same and I know it's crazy because of where
- 10:51Speaker 3: I am right now, and just like to really really
- 10:54Speaker 3: make the timeline clear, I was with a company for years,
- 10:57Speaker 3: took this really short and sweet opportunity, and then when
- 10:59Speaker 3: in to a role that was really really bad for
- 11:01Speaker 3: my mental health. I guess like a lot of people like, oh,
- 11:03Speaker 3: do you wish you had stated a little bit longer
- 11:05Speaker 3: to be found something? And I'm like, no, it was
- 11:07Speaker 3: the most, it was the worst, and I was the
- 11:09Speaker 3: most satisfying way to go out as well. And so
- 11:11Speaker 3: I feel like, no matter when I left there, I
- 11:14Speaker 3: didn't have any money saved. I was just about to
- 11:17Speaker 3: go to Sydney on a little holiday. I was like,
- 11:20Speaker 3: I could have done it smarter. But I do not
- 11:22Speaker 3: regret I don't regret it. I don't regret any of it.
- 11:25Speaker 3: And I just think that maybe the only thing I
- 11:28Speaker 3: wish I would have done differently is that now looking back,
- 11:31Speaker 3: I'm like, I wish I had just immediately picked up
- 11:33Speaker 3: shifts at random places instead of being like, ah, I
- 11:36Speaker 3: could probably chill for a bit, you know, That's the
- 11:38Speaker 3: only thing I probably would do differently.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But otherwise, no, nothing. I feel like it's a really
- 11:43Speaker 2: good feeling, like it's good to say, but you know,
- 11:46Speaker 2: I guess your perspective is always very it's about the
- 11:49Speaker 2: journey totally.
- 11:50Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:50Speaker 2: It's nice that it can be yeah, framed really positive
- 11:53Speaker 2: and be like, well, every experience, good or bad, yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 2: has brought us to where we are now exactly. We're
- 11:58Speaker 2: happy to be happy to be here. So true, Well,
- 12:02Speaker 2: let's go to a really quick break and when we
- 12:04Speaker 2: come back, I want to talk about looking forward to
- 12:06Speaker 2: the future as well as chatting out some of the
- 12:08Speaker 2: goals that the community have on their mind for the
- 12:09Speaker 2: upcoming year.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Don't go anywhere, Welcome back everyone. Before the break, me
- 12:17Speaker 3: and Jess, we're talking about our financial year that was,
- 12:20Speaker 3: and now we're going to be talking about our financial
- 12:23Speaker 3: year that will be.
- 12:25Speaker 2: It's exciting. It's full of possibilities. I know, isn't it crazy?
- 12:28Speaker 3: And it's like, yeah, it really is a nice time
- 12:30Speaker 3: to be like, oh, I could change the whole trajectory
- 12:33Speaker 3: of my life right now if you wanted to.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You could any moment. I want to know what are
- 12:37Speaker 2: your financial.
- 12:38Speaker 3: New Year's resolutions, what do you want to achieve, and
- 12:41Speaker 3: what are some of your financial goals?
- 12:43Speaker 2: Okay, well, this financial year, I've just just managed to
- 12:48Speaker 2: clear through the shortfall that I had for the house.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I've mentioned before, I spent a lot of money at
- 12:53Speaker 2: my color appointments and things like that, so I had
- 12:55Speaker 2: a bit of a shortfall that I had to build
- 12:56Speaker 2: up before the bill was done, and we've done that,
- 12:58Speaker 2: which is really awesome. So now my goal is to
- 13:02Speaker 2: save and pay for all of the extra little tasks
- 13:05Speaker 2: yes that I have not yet done, so you know,
- 13:09Speaker 2: landscaping and concreting. I would like to be able to
- 13:12Speaker 2: buy a washing machine that doesn't sound like it's about
- 13:14Speaker 2: to go into orbit. So it is as much as
- 13:18Speaker 2: I've ticked the big goal, paid for the house, done
- 13:21Speaker 2: all of that, which is awesome, it does feel like
- 13:23Speaker 2: I still have a lot to work on financially in
- 13:27Speaker 2: terms of getting me to where I want to be.
- 13:29Speaker 2: It's very exciting though as well because I'm getting ready
- 13:31Speaker 2: to into my diy era do as many things as
- 13:34Speaker 2: I can around the house, which will be awesome. Probably
- 13:37Speaker 2: catch me laying my own grass and moving my own rock. Yes,
- 13:40Speaker 2: girl boys can do it, so wak on girls exactly.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But yeah, I think the big thing is I want
- 13:45Speaker 2: to get settled into the house and I want to
- 13:47Speaker 2: make the house start to feel like mine, because you know,
- 13:49Speaker 2: it's one thing to build it and it technically will
- 13:52Speaker 2: be mine, but I think it's another to make a
- 13:53Speaker 2: house feel like a home. Yeah, and that's like a
- 13:55Speaker 2: huge goal for me this year, and also just on
- 13:58Speaker 2: a less financial side, to fill it with good memories,
- 14:01Speaker 2: like I know that it'll be a little while before
- 14:03Speaker 2: I'm in but I'm really excited to be able to
- 14:05Speaker 2: make it a place that people can gather, you have
- 14:08Speaker 2: friends and family around, and just make really good memories,
- 14:11Speaker 2: have really good times, and enjoy the fruits of my labor,
- 14:14Speaker 2: because I think there's been a lot of sacrifice to
- 14:16Speaker 2: get to this point, and so I do not want
- 14:20Speaker 2: to take my foot off the gas because I still
- 14:23Speaker 2: want to make sure that I'm paying down. My plan
- 14:25Speaker 2: is hopefully to make additional repayments on my mortgage, just
- 14:29Speaker 2: because having a bit more of a breathing room on
- 14:31Speaker 2: that would make me feel better. But I also am
- 14:35Speaker 2: excited to be able to live my life a little
- 14:37Speaker 2: bit because I have been giving up a lot these
- 14:39Speaker 2: past few years, and I'm ready to enjoy everything that
- 14:43Speaker 2: that has brought me amazing. What about you? What are
- 14:46Speaker 2: some of your goals or resolutions?
- 14:48Speaker 3: I would like to And this is very sad because
- 14:53Speaker 3: I feel like it came really far with Chasy's the
- 14:56Speaker 3: Chasis Dirty.
- 14:57Speaker 2: How much did you hear if he was about two thousand?
- 15:00Speaker 2: Oh my god, I know, I know.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Unfortunately I did get into a tricky place as sticky
- 15:05Speaker 3: spot where I was like I probably like I was
- 15:09Speaker 3: glad I had it there, but I didn't know how
- 15:11Speaker 3: to withdraw it yet because I did, I purposely didn't
- 15:13Speaker 3: want to know, but I was like, I'm going to
- 15:15Speaker 3: have to take this, and so I'm almost starting from scratch.
- 15:18Speaker 3: There's a couple hundred in there, which is still crazy,
- 15:21Speaker 3: but I am almost starting from scratch again and that's
- 15:24Speaker 3: a shame. But I think that I'm grateful that was there.
- 15:27Speaker 3: So I'm going to I really want to get back
- 15:28Speaker 3: on the Shares's train, and I really want to. I
- 15:31Speaker 3: really want to save for real. I think that I
- 15:34Speaker 3: did have the motivation to save. I didn't know what
- 15:36Speaker 3: I was saving for. It was a bit like okay,
- 15:39Speaker 3: you know, I always say toward end and so but
- 15:41Speaker 3: now I'm like, okay, I would like to have savings.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And I still don't really know what for exactly, just
- 15:48Speaker 3: obviously emergency fund and in times of need.
- 15:51Speaker 2: But I really want to take that seriously soon. That's amazing.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Thank you. Do you have a number in mind that
- 15:58Speaker 2: would make it for an emergency fund? Specifically, let's say,
- 16:00Speaker 2: is there a number that would make you feel comfy?
- 16:02Speaker 2: That's a great question. I don't know. I think maybe
- 16:07Speaker 2: five thousand would be nice. That's a great goal. Crazy.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I mean, you've got almost half of the way away
- 16:12Speaker 2: of your investments. You know that you can do it.
- 16:14Speaker 2: That's so true. That's so true. I feel like both
- 16:17Speaker 2: as possible you're investing has been really good for you
- 16:20Speaker 2: because it's shown that you can do it. Yeah, that's
- 16:23Speaker 2: so true. When we first met, you were just like, well,
- 16:25Speaker 2: I can't that's not my personality type. I just spend
- 16:28Speaker 2: the money as soon as I have it. Yeah, Whereas
- 16:29Speaker 2: now you've really shown to yourself and to everybody that
- 16:32Speaker 2: you are so capable yeah, goals and doing those things,
- 16:36Speaker 2: which is just incredible. That is so true, and that's
- 16:38Speaker 2: so beautiful.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I really thought like, oh, the only way I'll really
- 16:41Speaker 3: ever have money is if I just like make a
- 16:42Speaker 3: lot of money and I just have so much that
- 16:44Speaker 3: I can't spend it all. And I'm like, oh no,
- 16:46Speaker 3: I could, just like I can say, you're really you
- 16:50Speaker 3: are a capable, wonderful human and we all believe in
- 16:53Speaker 3: Thank you so much, Jess. Are there any money resets
- 16:56Speaker 3: that you're going to kick up from the first of July? Well,
- 16:58Speaker 3: the one that kind of goes back and forth to me,
- 17:01Speaker 3: it's like I would like to not vape anymore. And
- 17:03Speaker 3: so that's one thing that I want to kick because
- 17:05Speaker 3: it's getting really expensive. And it doesn't mean much too
- 17:09Speaker 3: because you don't vape. But just for context, back in
- 17:11Speaker 3: the day, maybe a vape was thirty dollars. Now it's
- 17:14Speaker 3: seventy seventy five dollars.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Even thirty, how long does one last? A little bit
- 17:19Speaker 2: over a week depends? Like, no, ray, that's crazy.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I know.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I don't really think about it in that way. Isn't
- 17:26Speaker 2: it how extensive your medical bills are going to be
- 17:28Speaker 2: when you're older. That's true medical bills. I'm confused by them.
- 17:35Speaker 3: You just get to ignore the fact that you're going
- 17:37Speaker 3: to tell you I'm confused, so I don't need to pay.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Really mean, but no, no one need it. Thank you
- 17:44Speaker 2: so much. That's a really good goal. I think quitting
- 17:46Speaker 2: the vaping. Have you you've tried before, right, yes? And
- 17:50Speaker 2: I kind of go in and out of doing really well.
- 17:53Speaker 3: And then because I think because they do so well
- 17:55Speaker 3: at like just not vaping, then I'm like, can I
- 17:57Speaker 3: take it up? And I'm like, oh, that was easy.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I could just do that again when I want to
- 18:00Speaker 3: stop if it was really hard, And then I broke
- 18:04Speaker 3: through and got there, then I would not want to
- 18:08Speaker 3: go back to that. But just because it's like, oh,
- 18:10Speaker 3: I just don't vape, and that's actually really easy to do.
- 18:12Speaker 3: And so because of that, I take it up so
- 18:14Speaker 3: easy all the time because I'm like, ah, I just
- 18:16Speaker 3: literally stop again.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Soon I turned it to eighty dollars a month back.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I know that's crazy.
- 18:22Speaker 3: It's so much money, that's insane, and so I think
- 18:25Speaker 3: that's helping me realize like, oh, okay, I should.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Probably just like stop altogether. I'm on board with this,
- 18:31Speaker 2: Thank you so much. What about yourself. I think I
- 18:34Speaker 2: want to increase the amount that I invest every month.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Like I said, I want to enjoy that I've got
- 18:39Speaker 2: a little bit more breathing room in my budget now.
- 18:42Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean not right now because right now
- 18:44Speaker 2: I'm paying a mortgage addirant. But once I move in,
- 18:46Speaker 2: that would be very lovely because I'll have all of
- 18:48Speaker 2: the rent money that I was paying a free, which
- 18:50Speaker 2: will be gorgeous, gorgeous. So I do want to increase
- 18:53Speaker 2: the amount that I'm investing. It's a little bit lower
- 18:55Speaker 2: than what I would have liked. I've had to kind
- 18:56Speaker 2: of adjust it over the past few years, so I'd
- 18:59Speaker 2: love to get it back to If I could invest
- 19:01Speaker 2: like one thousand dollars a month, I would feel so
- 19:04Speaker 2: good about that. Wow, Okay, I know it's a lot
- 19:07Speaker 2: of money, but amazing. I feel like I missed out
- 19:09Speaker 2: on a lot of years of investing I was younger,
- 19:11Speaker 2: and it's like that chart we've shared on Instagram that
- 19:13Speaker 2: shows the later you invest, the more you have to
- 19:16Speaker 2: make up to take full advantage of being able to retire,
- 19:19Speaker 2: earli or do whatever you want. I'm not sure you
- 19:20Speaker 2: know that I've been in a position to do that,
- 19:22Speaker 2: but yeah, I just want to go a little bit
- 19:25Speaker 2: harder on that to make up for the lost time,
- 19:26Speaker 2: because we all know I didn't grow up knowing anything
- 19:28Speaker 2: about finances. But it is ever too late, and you
- 19:31Speaker 2: can always make adjustments, which I think it is works
- 19:33Speaker 2: really well with what we're talking about today, so true.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Now we aren't alone in this. We obviously asked you,
- 19:39Speaker 2: beautiful humans, the gorgeoushes on the money community about how
- 19:42Speaker 2: you're going to reset for the financial year, and Beck
- 19:45Speaker 2: and I have a few responses that we'd love to share.
- 19:47Speaker 3: I'll set off with Rebecca, who says, a great name
- 19:49Speaker 3: By the way, I'm putting more priority into our mortgage
- 19:52Speaker 3: and emergency fund. I've taken on a third job that
- 19:55Speaker 3: pays monthly, so I'll be putting that whole amount into
- 19:57Speaker 3: our mortgage each month. It's not a lot, but we'll
- 20:00Speaker 3: certainly help. And I'll be allocating the income for my
- 20:02Speaker 3: second job, also pays monthly to an emergency fund, which
- 20:06Speaker 3: will be in our offset account.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Well, three jobs. Crazy, but Rebecca, I've just taken both
- 20:11Speaker 2: of our goals and slapped them together. I double the
- 20:14Speaker 2: work of us queen. Seriously, Wow, impress it. That is incredible.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Teagan said, I want to invest more than one hundred
- 20:21Speaker 2: bucks a fortnight, which I think is an awesome goal. Yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 2: all incremental changes is it's the way to go. Like
- 20:27Speaker 2: that's how I started. I think when I first started,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I was investing maybe like twenty dollars a week. Yeah,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and now I've gotten to the place and I'm like,
- 20:32Speaker 2: I'd like to be able to invest a thousand dollars
- 20:34Speaker 2: a month. That's insane. Yes, that's so cool.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 20:38Speaker 3: T The sexon one comes from Jamie Lee, who says
- 20:41Speaker 3: I want to clear my hex stet I could do
- 20:43Speaker 3: with the pre tax seduction actually being take home pay
- 20:47Speaker 3: so true. Okay, I feel like hex, It's not my
- 20:50Speaker 3: biggest motivation, but I'm curious to know what it would
- 20:52Speaker 3: look like if you just like got rid of it,
- 20:54Speaker 3: you know, so keep us in the loop.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Oh please, Yeah, everyone that we're reading out, I would
- 20:58Speaker 2: love to do a check in with you guys, yes,
- 21:00Speaker 2: six months or something and see where you're going, because
- 21:02Speaker 2: there's nothing more motivating to me than seeing people go, hey,
- 21:06Speaker 2: I want to do this and then coming back and saying, well,
- 21:08Speaker 2: did you do it? How did it go?
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 21:10Speaker 2: Totally. We need to keep each other accountable. Rene said,
- 21:13Speaker 2: we went to build up our savings. We are a
- 21:15Speaker 2: month into our first mortgage, so keeping on top of
- 21:17Speaker 2: that and paying off of our personal loan is our
- 21:19Speaker 2: big goal.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Jemma says, they want to stop booking holidays. They're great,
- 21:23Speaker 3: but I need to pause and put money aside for
- 21:26Speaker 3: a new Slash X demo car in a couple of
- 21:29Speaker 3: years and or an investment unit.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Gema, Okay, Jemmy, you've just reminded me. Actually, that's another
- 21:36Speaker 2: goal I would like to add to my list for
- 21:37Speaker 2: this financial year is I would like to go on
- 21:39Speaker 2: an overseas holiday. Okay, it's been quite a few years.
- 21:42Speaker 2: The last time I went was I think Japan, which
- 21:45Speaker 2: was oh my god, three years ago. Wow. Yeah, a
- 21:48Speaker 2: lot of time. So I would really like to go
- 21:50Speaker 2: on holiday this financial year. Oh gorgeous. I'll take some
- 21:53Speaker 2: of Jenner's energy. Thing, is it giving it away? Hell? Yeah.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I've gone from Anique who said I want to become
- 22:00Speaker 2: get free, say for our first holiday in four years
- 22:03Speaker 2: and buy a car outright? Yeah, of course, snaps and
- 22:07Speaker 2: clubs for humanique. So when everybody's thinking about your goals
- 22:10Speaker 2: and what you want to do, I want you, guys,
- 22:12Speaker 2: to make it an actionable plan. Like I want you
- 22:14Speaker 2: to think about, well, what is achievable. It's one thing
- 22:16Speaker 2: for us to sit here and say, oh, I want
- 22:18Speaker 2: to do this and I want to do that, But like,
- 22:20Speaker 2: let's use this time to really plan and say, well,
- 22:23Speaker 2: what do I need to do to make that happen?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Do I need to pick up extra work or do
- 22:26Speaker 2: I need to rejoot my budget? Or do I need
- 22:28Speaker 2: to be really specific? What is the acronym smart specific measured? Ah,
- 22:36Speaker 2: I'm achievable achievable? Oh is it attainable? The same same
- 22:43Speaker 2: reasonable tangible. This is why we're not allowed to do
- 22:54Speaker 2: We need victoria truly. Okay, smart goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant,
- 23:00Speaker 2: and time bound. Oh relevant, doesn't need to be. You
- 23:05Speaker 2: can dream big. You can dream big absolutely, so your
- 23:09Speaker 2: smart goals, everybody, or alternatively, make them what say, measable, reasonable, tangible?
- 23:18Speaker 2: What was the r reasonable?
- 23:21Speaker 3: Sorry, yeah, that's why Jesus said, Oh gosh, yeah, I
- 23:25Speaker 3: don't think they need to be relevant.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Let's stop that one out for sure.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Next we have Jade, who says, survive parentally without going broke.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, congratulations, this are true. It's really exciting.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I don't know as well about the parental lea situation.
- 23:42Speaker 3: I know that there's sometimes work, but not always work,
- 23:44Speaker 3: sometimes government but not always government fair.
- 23:47Speaker 2: It seems very complicated, complicated, but you can do it.
- 23:50Speaker 2: You can do it. Very excited for you, very exciting.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Catherine said she's got her house up for sale and
- 23:55Speaker 2: they will be going mortgage free by buying in a
- 23:57Speaker 2: cheaper area. Amazing mortgage free. Imagine that. Literally, that is
- 24:04Speaker 2: the dream that I aspisally seriously only just got a
- 24:07Speaker 2: mortgage tomorrow, like, get rid of it. Yeah, I don't
- 24:09Speaker 2: want anymore. You still to pay, like, do you stort
- 24:12Speaker 2: to pay land?
- 24:13Speaker 3: Something's on rates and things like that. I think, is
- 24:16Speaker 3: it like just as expensive as rent or not?
- 24:18Speaker 2: Really? Rates? Yeah, they only come once a quarter. It
- 24:21Speaker 2: really depends on where you'd live, but it would not
- 24:23Speaker 2: be as expensive as you Once you've paid off your mortgage,
- 24:27Speaker 2: you're living pretty good from my perspective.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Okay, incredible, Oh my god, congratulations. Okay, Emily says, pay
- 24:36Speaker 3: off all consumer debt, no spending days and trying really
- 24:39Speaker 3: hard to stick to my budget.
- 24:41Speaker 2: You can do it. That's a good goal. That's a
- 24:42Speaker 2: good goal. I love the no spending days as well.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I've been trying to implement those two and they're really
- 24:47Speaker 2: good as just a little circuit breaker. We believe in you, Emily.
- 24:51Speaker 2: And then last I'm going to read for today is
- 24:53Speaker 2: from Kelsey, who said I want to get my offset
- 24:55Speaker 2: to one hundred thousand dollars to lock in debt recycling. Okay,
- 25:00Speaker 2: only only at twenty eight k. Amazing, impressive goal. Only
- 25:05Speaker 2: twenty eight k, I was to say, only, definitely not
- 25:07Speaker 2: the right word. Is impressive enough on its own, but
- 25:11Speaker 2: I love that we're setting big goals. Because whenever you
- 25:14Speaker 2: want to achieve this year, guys, big or small, I
- 25:16Speaker 2: really think you can do it. I truly, truly believe it.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Also, debt recycling, we do you have a whole episode
- 25:21Speaker 3: of that. I've already forgotten it, but it sounds great.
- 25:26Speaker 2: We'll look it in the show notes if you want
- 25:28Speaker 2: to give it a listen to give you a little
- 25:29Speaker 2: hand on your journey. Yeah. Absolutely, thank you for sharing
- 25:32Speaker 2: your money resets with us.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Thank you so much that this has been a really cute,
- 25:35Speaker 3: cozy like indoor rainy day.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I know you guys don't mind that. It was just
- 25:40Speaker 2: a little bit of fun from us, a little bit
- 25:43Speaker 2: of championing. If you're listening to this right now, I
- 25:45Speaker 2: want you to know we believe in you. Yes, whatever
- 25:48Speaker 2: you want to achieve this year, you can do it.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Just make sure that it is specific, measurable, attainable.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Containable, responsible, reasonable, tangible.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I'm so excited to hear out all your goals. If
- 26:04Speaker 2: you've got one you'd like to share, definitely comments on Spotify.
- 26:07Speaker 2: We love breeding them. But I do fear that that
- 26:09Speaker 2: is all we've got time for today. I hope this
- 26:11Speaker 2: episode helps you consider a money reset of your own.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Thank you so much for joining us, and we will
- 26:16Speaker 2: catch you later in the week for Friday drinks. Bye guys, Bye.
